Bug#589606: pdns-backend-ldap: Should have updated LDAP schema
Package: pdns-backend-ldap Version: 2.9.22-6 The LDAP schema provided is still missing some of the new attributes provided when bug #573549 was fixed. A new schema was announced in URL: http://mailman.powerdns.com/pipermail/pdns-users/2008-March/005262.html . I was quite surprised to discover that the definition of the dnsdomain2 object class was changed without changing the OID, which I suspect might cause problems if the schema is changed when there is data stored in the LDAP database, but believe it would be good to have a new schema with all the attributes available. Thanks for pointing this out. Ext4 has always supported on-line resize, but when the man page was updated to add and ext4 in the first sentence, I failed to update the later sentence regarding online resizing. Bug#569574: Patch for the l10n upload of slbackup
To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU. Please feel free to use all of it...or only the l10n part of it. Is there anything blocking this upload? I'm currently processing pending stuff for a few languages (those that are close to be 100% for debconf translations) and slbackup shows up. Bug#589600: ITP: f5vpn-login -- F5 VPN command-line client
On 12181 March 1977, Taku YASUI wrote: Description : F5 VPN command-line client This software allows you to connect to an F5 VPN server without using their browser plugin. It also has the advantage of setting up DNS properly on OSX systems, which the official client doesn't do. (but maybe they will in the future, now that they can copy the method I use). It is not supported or affiliated with F5 in any way. I actually find it rather sad the client they provide is so terribly poor that I had to write this in order to get reliable access to my company's VPN. This software does not require any software from F5 to be installed on the client. The only requirement is Python 2.3.5 or later. It works on at least Linux and OSX systems, but porting to any similar OS should be trivial. Porting to Windows, on the other hand, is probably not reasonably possible. This description is really poor, please adjust it. All the rants and complains about the original f5 software are entirely wrong inside a Debian package description. And an advantage on OSX is also very much uninteresting here. -- bye, Joerg It seems to me that the account creation step could be fully automated: checking the box approved by DAM could trigger an insert into the LDAP database thereby creating the account. 1375.143.121.153.52.1122977888.squir...@wm.kinkhorst.nl -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#589576: iceweasel: some animated gifs only show first frame - rest are blank
On Sun, Jul 18, 2010 at 11:02:59PM +0300, Heikki Aitakangas wrote: Package: iceweasel Version: 3.6.4-1 Severity: normal Iceweasel shows only the first frame of some animated GIFs. In cases where the problem occurs, the rest of the frames behave as though they were fully transparent over the whole picture area. The normal cycling behaviour does occur, so that the first frame is again shown after a duration that the rest of the frames would have taken to be shown. The problem exists in both the testing version (3.5.10-1) and experimental version (3.6.4-1). It is not extension-related - I could reproduce the problem with a clean ~/.mozilla after moving my real ~/.mozilla away. Toggling KDE's compositing features did not affect the situation. The problem is somehow related to Iceweasel itself as Konqueror renders the animated GIFs just fine on the same system. Based on the fact that only some GIFs show this bugginess, I would guess that this is related to Iceweasel's GIF decoder. A GIF that exhibits the problem: http://www.gifs.net/Animation11/Computers_and_Technology/Air_Conditioners/Ceiling_fan.gif A GIF that does not exhibit the problem: http://www.gifs.net/Animation11/Computers_and_Technology/Air_Conditioners/Ventilator_2.gif Works for me. Take into account, though I've not checked, the source code might contain the typical assumptions of Linux ~= GNU/*, and thus confusing kernel interfaces with the userland ones. So if the code is truly kernel dependant (and only needs a way to retrieve process information), then the above missing Build-Depends would be the correct fix. If otherwise the code assumes that Linux implies a GNU userland, then it might require more fixes. For starters there's other libc implementations being used with Linux (uClibc, dietlibc, Newlib) and not all of them support all GNU extensions. In case it's really appropriate to add to the linux-* case the GNU userland, we usually match against '*-gnu*' which catches all GNU variants. thanks, guillem -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to

Bug#589019: pam_group does not support NSS groups...
Mandi! Steve Langasek In chel di` si favelave... Ah - have read the upstream post now, and understand that this is about adding users to groups based on whether they're already a member of another group. Yes. That doesn't make sense to me, frankly; I think it makes more sense to grant the *original* group access to the resources on the system. So I'm not I've tried to setup pam_group on some server debian-based i manage. On some of these i need to lend log-watching permission (eg, group ''adm'') to some unrestricted user, possibly without using complex sudo setups (they have to read, not execute something). pam_group works, but i've to list explicitly all users i need, insted of using the LDAP/Samba group they belong to. This is and error-prone task, and i can easily forgot some users in pam_group list... Also... AFAI've understood, pam_group support add local group to nisgroup because as the time was written the NIS technology was the ''leader'' in complex networks setup, lead position now gone. I think that adding network group users to a local group is a perfectly good option, as was for netgroups. inclined to take this patch before it's been applied upstream. Ok, the best way is: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=6663atid=106663 or there's a better one? Many thanks. -- dott. These two files have the swirl and beside it is written Debian. Okay, but the cited non DFSG free logo license covers a specifig version of the logo with the text Debian written under it. Now, to my understanding, if I take the non-free OpenUse Logo, cut the Debian under the swirl and paste it beside the swirl, I obviously have a non-free logo. But if I take the full free Open Use logo (the one without text) and write Debian on the side of the swirl, I come up of the very same graphic. Bug#587482: The Debian open logo with Debian is not compliant to the Debian policy
Hi! * Pompee William william.pom...@gmail.com [100629 01:17]: The files concerned are: /usr/share/gdm/themes/debian-dawn/background.jpeg /usr/share/gdm/themes/debian-dawn/screenshot.png These files have already been removed in 0.6.2 to fix #467144. /usr/share/gdm/themes/ayo/background.png /usr/share/gdm/themes/ayo/screenshot.png Honestly, have looked at these files? Yes, they are similar to the problematic logo, as they both contain the word Debian and the logo. But that doesn't make them a derivative of the problematic logo. * Francesco Poli f...@firenze.linux.it [100630 00:12]: (b) any copy (or derivative work) of the Open Use Logo with the Debian text included in main is removed (or replaced by the Open Use Log without the Debian text) Please note, that there is a difference between 'derivative work of the Open Use Logo with the Debian text' and 'derivative work of the Open Use Logo without the Debian text', where someone added the Word Debian to it. I would personally prefer option (a), if at all possible. Then you shouldn't discuss that in some bug reports, but on the proper mailing list. Bug#589624: fop-0.95 has a race condition in using ICC_Profile from java awt
Package: fop Version: 1:0.95.dfsg-11 FOP has a race condition through it's usage of class ICC_Profile from java.awt, it is more likely to trigger this if more cores are used on newer machines. See the discussion at http://old.nabble.com/Re:-ConcurrentModificationException-error-td27166097.html, fix is very localized and is available as diff in latest trunk at http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revisionrevision=904467 Fop 1.0 will contain this fix in will be available soon, but as 0.95 will stay for a while still, it would be good to get this fix backported to 0.95 as well as we are hitting this problem with the current version. Bug#589625: acpi-support: Providing the option to suspend on lid close would be useful
Package: acpi-support Version: 0.137-3 Severity: normal Hi, on eeepc-acpi-scripts we suspend the laptop by default on lid close. This is because there were some concerns that leaving it on would lead to overheating; this hypothesis is probably unfounded, but still we would like to keep an option for this behaviour since users are used to it. We are trying to integrate eeepc-acpi-scripts with acpi-support, but the latter already manages the lid event on it's own, only turning off the screen (or leaving it to the power-manager if one it's running). Would you accept a patch that, depending on a variable set in /etc/default/acpi-support (off by default) would suspend the laptop? Bug#589622: getlive: Page doesn't contain FormStart
Dear Martin, Thank you for your reply. The message is: GetLive died with message: 'Page doesn't contain FormStart as expected. at /usr/bin/getlive line 615.'. This seems to be the same problem as shown in http://sourceforge.net/projects/getlive/forums/forum/686670/topic/3681202, have you tried with different modes? If this doesn't solve it, maybe you're affected by (another) change in hotmail, see http://sourceforge.net/projects/getlive/forums/forum/686670/topic/3759796 Please, confirm if this is the latter or the former. Thanks for reporting. I added Mode=201003 to my rc file and now I get a different message (as someone else mentioned) GetLive died with message: 'Page doesn't contain _d5 as expected. at /usr/local/bin/getlive line 611.'. I have no nag screen - though I don't really know what that means so perhaps I do have one. Reading pane is off. -Nigel -- Nigel Horne. Bug#589638: apache2: Generally useful options currently set in sites-available/default should be moved to included file
Package: apache2 Version: 2.2.3-4+etch5 Severity: wishlist Debian includes quite a lot of useful default settings in sites-available/default and sites-available/default-ssl. It would be great if those settings were includable by other virtual host files in sites-available. That way users could build on the sane defaults set by the debian maintainers instead of having to copy and paste useful additions like: BrowserMatch .*MSIE.* \ nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0 into their own virtual host files. Currently users have to check for new settings in the default files, but it would be nice if the new defaults would be applied automatically after an upgrade. A different approach, instead of including the defaults, would be to provide utilities like a2ensite but for virtual host configurations. By using the tool, a user should be able to add a configuration snippet to be applied *within* a configured virtual host defined in a sites-enabled file. That way the user would not have to touch the default-ssl configuration file and would benefit from changes to the file automatically. One would probably have to rely on something like Include ../vhostconf-enabled/default-ssl_*.conf or have one directory per virtual host to read configuration snippets from. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.9-023stab048.6-enterprise Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages apache2 depends on: ii apache2-mpm-prefork2.2.3-4+etch5 Traditional model for Apache HTTPD apache2 recommends no packages. -- debconf information: perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LANG = en_GB.utf8 are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale (C). locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#589561: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#589561: init.d/Scripts are not considered conffiles
On Mon, 19 Jul 2010, Ralph Ulrich wrote: For a user removing a package but not purging, it is totally non-intuitive that remaining start scripts may cause some trouble in the future. These scripts are seen as NOT-editable und thus considered to be NO conffiles. There is the bug. This is Debian. Anything in /etc *IS* a config file or a conffile, unless it is explicitly marked on top to be auto-generated based on other config/conffiles in /etc. Bugs in that area (non-config/conffiles in /etc) are release-critical, and severely frowned upon. The fix here is to get new Debian users to understand that. We have this strict and strong policy for more than a decade, it is not changing anytime soon. How do you handle a not removed init.d/SCRIPT, that is reused by the user for granted to implement something new he _wants_ ? If we get confused by it, we tell the local admin to handle it. That is why anyone with root powers is called the local *administrator*. He touched the scripts, he becomes responsible for them. It *is* that simple. If he didn't touch the scripts, it is a bug somewhere. If it gets reported, it will be eventually fixed. -- One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them. Bug#589641: cryptsetup: keyscripts depending on /usr/* content fail when /usr is encrypted and not on the root-filesystem
Package: cryptsetup Version: 2:1.1.3-1 Severity: important Hi. I have not tried this out, nevertheless I'm quite sure it happens as I describe: - In Debian, it's totally ok, to have /usr on non-root-filesystems (even remote filesystems are ok, but I guess that's rather stupid when it comes to disk encryption. - It's also completely ok (and very reasonable in order to secure against offline attacks) to encrypt /usr. - Many keyscripts depend on content within /usr, e.g. my personal OpenPGP key scripts, or openct, opensc and openssl) It's quite obvious that this will fail: The root-fs itself can be well decrypted (everything needed is in the initramfs), but then we pivot root, and all that stuff is gone... as soon as we try to decrypt any other device which uses a keyscript with dependecies in /usr,.. (e.g. /usr-fs itself)... we'll fail. I guess there is no solution but one: Decrypt all such devices in the initramfs image. But this has of course many problems: a) In case we support multilayered block devices,... (as described here: http://wiki.debian.org/AdvancedStartupShutdownWithMultilayeredBlockDevices ) we're fucked ^^... well at least everything gets extremely complicated b) If we'd already mount more than just root-fs during initramfs... will the normal init-system boot break? Bug#587999: turning off radeonfb crashes system on console switch
Hi! I got around to testing with video=radeonfb:off on the kernel commandline. What you then get is a completely hanging system when switching terminale (chvt), when trying to stop the login manager KDM or when logging out of an X session. Note that this means that rebooting the system becomes impossible, similarly partitions aren't unmounted properly either. I also tried activating KMS explicitly then, but that crashes even earlier during boot, even before init is started. The kernel seems to detect that my video card has 256MiB of VRAM, while it only has 32. Some other memory layouts it detects are similarly off. If I find a free hour I'll try to disable KDM and then try without radeonfb, if that is broken, too, or if it is only in combination with X. I'll also try to copy the kernel output when using KMS.
