Bug#607504: unblock: console-setup/1.64

2010-12-19 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package console-setup

1.61 is currently in testing. There is no 1.62.

1.63 brought several additionnal debconf translations (needed for D-I)

1.64 fixes an important bug that makes the Finnish keymap unusable
while using the graphical installer.

So, in short, this new version is needed by D-I

Bug#607488: ITP: geoip-database-contrib -- MaxMind GeoIP (lite) binary database downloader script

2010-12-19 Thread Alexander Wirt
Ludovico Cavedon schrieb am Sunday, den 19. December 2010:

   Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Ludovico Cavedon cave...@debian.org
 * URL :
 http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/geoip-database-contrib.git
 * License : GPL-2+
   Programming Lang: bash
Description : MaxMind GeoIP (lite) binary database downloader script

GeoIP is a C library that enables the user to find the country that any IP
address or hostname originates from. It uses a file-based database.
  .
This package contains a script that downloads the latest version of the
 binary
flavour of the MaxMind GeoLite databases. In particular:
   - GeoLite Country
   - GeoLite Country IPv6
   - GeoLite City
   - GeoLite ASN
  .
This database simply contains IP blocks as keys, and countries/cities/ASNs as
values and it should be more complete and accurate than using reverse DNS
  lookups.
  .
The MaxMind database itself is distributed under a BSD-like license. However
 it
is made available in binary only format and the source code for generating it
  is not provided.
What makes this better than geoipupdate from the geoip-bin package?

Alex

Bug#607387: capiutils: fails to install: /sbin/MAKEDEV: not found

2010-12-19 Thread Rolf Leggewie

Christian,

thank you for your report. There is already a package on mentors
that is waiting for sponsorship and that should address your issue.

I'm still a bit surprised by your report. Would you please be so
kind to tell me if you udev, makedev or both installed? I think you
were explicitly installing the previously uninstalled capiutils
package, correct? Is this a full computer system or a virtual
system or chroot?

Please unblock package eject

This NMU brings in several debconf translations that were pending in
the git repository (mostly committed by me with agreement by Frank
Lichtenheld). I finally uploaded an NMU as Frank apparently couldn't
do an upload himself.

These translated strings are used by D-I (they are menu entries in the
main D-I menu) and I consider this upload important for a good
localization of D-I, hence this freeze exception request.

Well, rar is in nonfree, and it's installed here too.
The prob happens with _any_ rar archive so far, incl.
the attached one, for which rar is able to list and

attach it since you can create a rar archive too just
fine, but here we go ;)

Bug#607500: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#607500: The samba package should at least recommend or suggest samba-common-bin

2010-12-19 Thread Christian PERRIER

Quoting June Tate-Gans (j...@theonelab.com):
 Package: samba
 Version: 2:3.5.6~dfsg-3
 Severity: important

Upon a simple install of the samba server via the usual method (apt-get
install samba), it appears that basic configuration tools and management
utilities are not installed, such as smbpasswd. Turns out, in Squeeze, these
 are
in a new package called `samba-common-bin' which isn't recommended or even
 suggested in the samba package.

We should fix that lest we have users complaining down the road.

samba depends on samba-common that Recommends samba-common-bin

Recommends are now installed by default, so on a default install,
samba-common-bin will be installed.

We do, just not all of what *you* (one of our users) want.

Yeah, I'm probably the only Debian folk out there that has to support a

Bug#598130: similar from i386 architecture

2010-12-19 Thread Jose Luis Zabalza
I created a usb image with live-debian tool and I get the same error.

Seems the error is on apt-get command on line 33 of apt-install command.
apt-get return 100

in-target sh -c debconf-apt-progress --no-progress --logstderr -- apt-get
-q -y --no-remove install $packages || ERRCODE=$?

Seems grub packages are not on /target/var/cache/apt/archives directory.

I copied grub packages to archives directory and regenerated
/target/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin file by hand using in-target command, but
no success.

I grep pkgcache.bin. It only found grub package and not grub-pc package. I
don't know if this is correct or no.

Bye

2010-12-19 Thread Marc Dequènes (Duck)

Coin,

I made a maintainance on the machine, and btw made a few tests. I
switched it off after reactivating the modules, switched it on again,
and the boot went well ; i then tried a few reboots, well again. I
made what i came for, and needed to reboot a few more times, and
everything was ok too.

The new kernel messages are:

[ 15.957865] ipmi_si: Trying SMBIOS-specified kcs state machine at

[ 16.214895] ipmi: Found new BMC (man_id: 0x2a, prod_id:

[ 16.215065] IPMI kcs interface initialized
[ 16.284913] ipmi device interface
using the same address as before.

So, it is now unreproducible. Please note that by the time we switched
to 2.6.32-29, even if according to the changelog it doesn't change
anything about IPMI. I don't know what to do about this BR, so until i
can find anything else you may close it or tag it unreproducible, as
you wish.

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

Bug#423528: sysvinit-utils: bootlogd broken with no error message

2010-12-19 Thread Marc Dequènes (Duck)

found 423528 2.88dsf-13
thanks

Coin,

Recently i had a server running testing rebooted which has the same
exact symptoms. On 2010-06-04, date of the previous reboot, the boot
log contained data, but now the file is not updated anymore.

Looking at this BR, and as this machine has a separate /var and
/var/log, i reconfigured bootlogd to log on /, like Dominique did, and
everything worked again.

I could not find any error message from bootlogd at boot time, but it
may be linked to the switch to insserv as it only requires
mountdevsubfs to start and at least $local_fs is needed in this case.

Regards.

i find it very sad that you didn't even bother to look at tftpd-hpa.

I agree in general but bloating packages with debconf questions that
are 99.9% of the times useless (and possibly meaningless to users)
doesn't help anyone.

since 99% percent of all users are fine with a default installation and
debconf priority critical, let's removal all debconf questions in debian
all together, and just let users use $editor to configure their stuff
manually for each and every package. if they have to modify their
configuration, they will have the knowledge to do so anyway. otherwise,
they would not require to alter configuration in the first place.

convincing logic, go for it.

For now I won't fix this bug, in the future I may consider adding low
priority debconf questions to autogenerate the config file and keep
those questions away from users not interested in it.

that's excately what i was telling you all the time. you couldn't just

extlinux-update script quietly overwrites /etc/default/extlinux file
on each invocation. The file in question, according to the Policy,
is a configuration file, so the local changes made to this file should
be preserved. I think handling of this file should be done differently:
only create this file if not already exist, and not update it after.

Bug#605122: excessive logging of Network is unreachable fills up /var[/log/clamav/freshclam.log]

2010-12-19 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: clamav-freshclam
Severity: normal

Hello,

although I purged freshclam (and clamav) from my system, a
/usr/bin/freshclam -d --quiet process was left running, which kept the
huge freshclam.log open, which left its disk space in /var/ allocated
although I had deleted the file manually.

freshclam being purged meant that the stop script in /etc/init.d was not
there anymore to be used to shut freshclam down; killing the freshclam
process manually obviously put an end to all the sufferings and freed
that 1.2Gb I needed in my /var.

I personally have no problems dealing with a scenario of disk space is
not freed while the file is still open coupled with purging freshclam
leaves the daemon running and freshclam keeps its logfile open all the
time, but I can see how it all can cause a rather bad friday afternoon
to many, especiall because at that point du and friends will not show
you where the disk space is used anymore :(

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#607516: extlinux-update manipulates boot files in unsafe ways

2010-12-19 Thread Michael Tokarev
Package: extlinux
Version: 2:4.02+dfsg-7
Severity: important
Tags: squeeze

update-extlinux script modifies boot-related files in unsafe ways,
which is a good way to make system unbootable: it re-creates
several files in /boot/extlinux/ by zeroing the content at start
and adding information to them piece by piece. In case of a power
failure during this time, the system will be unbootable. We're
talking about the need to perform f(data)sync() on important files
to ensure data integrity, but this case is much more important
since it affects whole system, but here, file manipulation is
much less safe than just omitting fsync.

The rigth way to create these files is to create a temp file first,
and when it's done, rename it into place atomically.

while i agree that the handling of the update of the file could be
upgraded, user changes are preserved as the file is read in by
extlinux-update before writing it again, therefore closing the bug.

I discovered this while trying (something like) this:

 EXTLINUX_MENU_LABEL=Debian GNU/Linux, node $(cat /var/run/nodeinfo), kernel

which evaluates to different things (running several
nodes from a common image). But once something calls
update-extlinux on the master node, the variable is
not evaluated anymore on the other nodes.

Besides, I had a few things on that file which tried
to create valid menu system without help of the
themes - since on our small terminals in server room
I can't use vesamenu which is used by syslinux themes.
This too were overwritten.

Maybe these aren't common usages, but the bug is here
anyway.

Right, I set #607472 to grave under the assumption that we want to

Hi,

It seems not to be a bug in pinot since it depends on libtextcat-data and
libreoffice says it conflicts with libtextcat-data.

However, libtextcat source package also generates libtextcat-data-utf8 and
if libtextcat0 can depend on libtextcat-data-utf8, this problem will be solved.
I'm not sure, but can we set it libtextcat0's dependency as below?

Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}, libtextcat-data (=

And yes commit in newest midori looks to address this problem

Bug#607518: kaffeine: DVB-T Channel switching results in Read Error from

2010-12-19 Thread Malte Stein
Package: kaffeine
Version: 1.0-2
Severity: important

Hi,

this bug appeared a few months ago through an update and hasn't been fixed ever
since. It causes the video to freeze, but doesn't freeze kaffeine itself.

To reproduce, do the following steps:
1. Switch to a random channel
2. When it's on, change to a channel on the same frequency
3. Receive nothing, except a Read error from: after 30 seconds

To recover, either close kaffeine and reopen it, or do the following:
1. Switch to a random channel
2. Switch to a different channel on a different(!) frequency
3. When you hear the speakers click, switch to your desired channel.

On a side note: When closing kaffeine before the 30 sec timeout kicks in, KDE
is briefly busy deleting the file :

I guess this behavior came with the drop of all the video options in kaffeine
and some default-option that I changed prior is now different.
This bug stayed even after resetting the entire kde-config.

I use a Terratec Cinergy T2 USB. The setup hasn't changed before and after the
bug appeared.

Bug#607519: libva causes GPU hang on Intel when playing Sintel in 2K resolution

2010-12-19 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: i965-va-driver
Version: 1.0.4-1
Severity: normal

I originally posted this at kernel.org as a kernel bug[1], but was told that
this is no kernel bug. As libva seems to miss an upstream bug tracker, I
am reporting this in the Debian BTS and CCed upstream (for upstream: always
CC bug report and me in your replies, otherwise I don't get emails).

[1] https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19582

-- Bug Report:

I tried watching Sintel in 2K resolution using VAAPI; this caused a GPU hang.
debugging the GPU hang was not possible, as reading i915_error_state failed
with the message that not enough memory could be allocated.

The following dmesg logs show the hang and the trace from running cat on
i915_error_state.

If you bound addresses after the daemon startup it is expected.
Masquerade address directive is not something that could cause any problem,
because it is used after connection. So it is better you provide your full
configuration and explain what you mean with 'not starting': is it not
responding on some address or what?

Bug#561071: 3.0 source format: git-import-orig can't import multiple upstream tarballs

 Hi,

Nobody that I know of. Since I'm not using any package with multiple
tarballs myself I'm lacking a clear picture about the workflow.

Marco sent in patches for git-buildpackage (to recreate the tarballs) a
while ago which I'll attach here so they don't get lost. I'd welcome
feedback if this is how people would use multiple tarballs. E.g. I'm not
sure if we want to push all tarballs deltas onto the same pristine-tar
branch.

Bug#606058: Stable?

Not yet checked, at least me, so far I have done only first unstable,
now t-p-u upload. I add Moritz, in case he already did?

 In lenny we have:

 ---(snip)---
 my $verify_mode = $arg_hash-{SSL_verify_mode};
 unless ($verify_mode == Net::SSLeay::VERIFY_NONE()) {
 Net::SSLeay::CTX_load_verify_locations(
 $ctx, $arg_hash-{SSL_ca_file},$arg_hash-{SSL_ca_path}
 ) || return IO::Socket::SSL-error(Invalid certificate authority
 locations);
 }

So here we do not change the verify_mode. So IMHO lenny should be ok,
 right?

I'm not familiar with the details of the problem, but this sounds
plausible. Thanks for checking.

Bug#607329: cpufrequtils should use /etc/default

i find it very sad that you didn't even bother to look at tftpd-hpa.

Actually I did.
You should be aware that you have a high priority question
(tftpd-hpa/directory) that I get asked every time I install the package
then. :)
Also, you don't validate a single value of those the user provides and
this is as friendly as letting users use $editor to configure the
package (maybe worse).

For cpufreq, validating values or providing valid values for users to
select from is a lot of guess work. My opinion is that trying to do that
would cause more problems than it solves and again that's why, as I
initially said, implementing a configuration interface for it would not
be worth. It would also not be as trivial as you make it sound.

...
For now I won't fix this bug, in the future I may consider adding low
priority debconf questions to autogenerate the config file and keep
those questions away from users not interested in it.

that's excately what i was telling you all the time. you couldn't
just say 'yes, i'll do so', couldn't you?

Bug#607522: FTBFS with --as-needed

Hi,

atp fails to build from source, if --as-needed is used as linker flag [1,2].
The reason is that --as-needed enforces a strict linking order (symbol users in

Thanks! The patch applies cleanly to 2.3-4, and I can confirm that the
it fixes the issue completely for me.

(For the sake of completeness: I built the modified parted on zelenka.d.o

I'm attaching the patch for convenience and reassigning this to parted.
Setting the severity to 'serious' as it looks like this breaks d-i on
s390 for everybody and not just hercules users.

Parted maintainers: feel free to downgrade if this is inflated, and
please let me know if I can help further in any way.

Thanks for spotting this. I agree with the severity, and am preparing
an updated package now.

This is a bit bigger than I had initially planned; sorry! Most of this
is the template/translation changes agreed with / requested by the i18n
team due to some debconf templates being visible but untranslated - see
#605748 for the details. Here are the changes not covered by that,
which IMO are RC:

  * Exit silently from zz-update-grub kernel hook if update-grub does not
exist (e.g. if grub-pc has been removed but not purged; closes:
#606184).

Severity: critical (maybe ought to be grave since the kernel and grub2
are not exactly unrelated, but whatever) - can break kernel upgrades.

  * Incorporate rewritten 05_debian_theme by Alexander Kurtz, which works
when /usr is inaccessible by GRUB (closes: #605705).

Severity: serious, set thus by me because this is the first thing users
see every time they boot Debian. We should make sure that it is
consistent, especially for partitioning layouts that are offered as
standard in the installer. Unfortunately not trivial, but it's
carefully written with lots of error handling and both Alexander and I
have tested it; I've made sure to test it with both a plain partitioning
layout and LVM/LUKS.

Bug#582069: Include zoneserver in startscript

Here is a first try to start zoneserver.
The zoneserver is started if :
  - The global USE_TCP variable is set to 1 in /etc/default/maradns
  - One of the variable tcp_convert_server or zone_transfer_acl is
explicitly defined, for each instance of maradns that is about to start.

For now, successful starts of zoneserver are NOT checked.

  * Remove DASD restriction on _disk_sync_part_table, as otherwise DASD
partitioning will never work properly (closes: #605759).

 -- Colin Watson cjwat...@debian.org Sun, 19 Dec 2010 12:57:43 +

As far as I can tell, this bug completely broke s390 installations,
which makes it RC in my book. The patch is from Fedora/upstream and
just removes a stale special case.

Bug#603986: qgis crashes on startup on PowerPC

2010-12-19 Thread Hideki Yamane
Hi ppc porters,

Forwarded from Bug#603986,
 tags 603986 + help
 thanks

I personally have not access to a PPC to do any trial, and using
qgis in remote would be a pain, I guess. It seems Heisenbug Principle
in this case applies, too. Maybe we should remove qgis for this
arch and wait some porters have time and will to help?

Could someone help to investigate qgis crash on PPC?

My opinion is that trying to do that
would cause more problems than it solves and again that's why, as I
initially said, implementing a configuration interface for it would not
be worth.

i disagree.

It would also not be as trivial as you make it sound.

Bug#607527: FTBFS with linker flag --as-needed

2010-12-19 Thread Stefan Potyra
Package: addresses-for-gnustep
Version: 0.4.7-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

addresses-for-gnustep fails to build from source, if --as-needed is used as a
linker flag [1,2]. The reason is that --as-needed enforces a strict ordering
(symbol users in front of symbol definitions).

Attached is a patch that fixes the problem by sorting out the libraries from
_LDFLAGS into _OBJC_LIBS (the latter is added after the object files for
linking).

Cheers,
   Stefan.

Bug#558703: Patch doesn't seem correct

2010-12-19 Thread brian m. carlson
I've looked at the provided patch, and I don't think it's correct.
First of all, we have vsscanf in glibc, so there's no reason that we
should need to provide one. Second, if this code is built as a shared
library, which I believe it is, then we've just exported a symbol by
removing the static. That's bad because (a) it conflicts with glibc,
which may cause linking problems and crashes, and (b) other shared
libraries may use this vsscanf, which will not work if there are more
than five stdarg arguments.

The right way to fix this is to find out why HAVE_VSSCANF is not be
defined properly.

Bug#607529: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: HDMI uses wrong signal for TVs with no HDMI sound support

2010-12-19 Thread Paul Sohier
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-29
Severity: normal

When a TV without sound support via HDMI is used with HDMI all output is green
instead of blue. This happens with a LG Flatron MD2061D. You get a result like
this: http://www.hosthuis.nl/IMAG0401.jpg

A patch can be found here (From freedesktop.org), however this patch does not
cleanly apply to the Debian kernel:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2010-October/008321.html
Using this change the color on the TV works correctly.

Bug#596351: ohai is required for Chef

2010-12-19 Thread Chris Butler
Apologies for the delay; I forgot to subscribe to the bug and therefore
missed your response.

 upstream in Ohai?

Well chef was not in lenny either, and has a similarly low popcon count. It
could be considered for removal from squeeze as well, especially at this
late stage in the squeeze release.

On Sun, Nov 14, 2010 at 08:33:01PM -0700, Joshua Timberman wrote:
The JSON gem has a history of issues, and while it seems that 1.1.9 may
otherwise be stable, it is a year old and has a lot of improvements. So
far I have not seen any issues with version 1.4.6, in ohai or otherwise. I
hope that Debian can make an exception for getting the latest version into
Squeeze. As the package maintainer for ohai, I don't think that patching
ohai to workaround this bug is appropriate.

I doubt that the Release Team would accept a new upstream version now (nor
do I think they would've accepted it a month ago), so that is not really an
option.

One suggestion, made by Neil Williams, was to patch ohai to output a useful
error message when it encounters an invalid character. In other words,
replace the fairly meaningless exception with a useful error message,
detailing what the problem is (invalid utf-8 character) and the file/line of
the problem. IMO this would make the bug non-RC, as it should make it
obvious to the user how to fix the problem.

Is that something that would be quick and easy for you to do? I had a quick
look at the ohai source to see if I could provide a patch, but I'm not
familiar enough with the source or Ruby itself to work out where to modify
it.

If the above is not possible, I return to my previous suggestion of removing
ohai chef from squeeze. Once wheezy is up and running, there should be no
problem getting the new libjson-ruby package in. There's always the option
of providing packages via backports.debian.org once squeeze is released.

Bug#607530: [advi]: FTBFS with linker flag --as-needed

2010-12-19 Thread Stefan Potyra
Package: advi
Version: 1.9.0-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

advi fails to build from source if --as-needed is used as linker flag [1,2].
The reason is that --as-needed enforces a strict link ordering (symbol users in
front of symbol definitions).

Attached is a patch that fixes the problem.

Cheers,
  Stefan.

Bug#606670: Bug#607525: RM: minitube/1.1-1

Please remove minitube from testing pending a new upstream. The maintainer
approves and will seek to get it into volatile instead, because of the
 unstable API - see #606670.

Apologies for not spotting the issue earlier, but those two requests are
incompatible. Starting with the squeeze release, what is currently the
separate volatile archive will be replaced with a new ${suite}-updates
suite hosted on the standard ftp mirrors (see
20101005202925.gu4...@halon.org.uk , d-d-a, 2010-10-05). This will
expose a subset of the packages in proposed-updates so that users can
still choose to easily updates packages such as clamav or tzdata without
pulling in the rest of p-u and simplifies the process of ensuring that
any such updates make it in to stable proper.

As a side-effect, it will not be possible to include packages which are
not part of the corresponding stable release. If we remove minitube
from Squeeze now, further updates once Squeeze is stable would then need
to be made via backports, rather than volatile.

I have no particular preference which route is taken, but thought it was
worth spelling out the consequences.

Regards,

Adam

Bug#607532: console-setup create empty keymap when reconfiguring (or upgrading)

2010-12-19 Thread Klaus Ethgen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Package: console-setup
Version: 1.64
Severity: normal

When dpkg-reconfigure console-setup is run it ends in an empty
/etc/console-setup/cached.kmap.gz (well, an empty, compressed file size
20 bytes to be correct).

While reconfigure I get a warning: /usr/bin/ckbcomp: garbage in a key
definition:
actions[Group1]=[SetMods(modifiers=Shift),SetMods(modifiers=Shift+Lock,clearLocks)],
in shift. but the return code of dpkg-reconfigure is 0.

This is even worse than the keymap in /etc/console/boottime.kmap.gz
stays correct and is the expected keymap. There is no evidence that a
empty keymap named cached is read at start unless debugging the
startup.

Bug#607534: linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-686: crash upon calling 'startx'

2010-12-19 Thread Toni Mueller

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-29
Severity: normal
Tags: squeeze

Hi,

I wanted to start the GUI, but couldn't. After logging in, I usually say
'startx'. For this computer, which I have just installed, the command
resulted in the screen going blank, immediately followed by a hard reboot.

The problem appears to occur only with the entry in grub.cfg that I
marked below, but I only tried the first and the marked entry

Bug#606314: debian-edu-install: Automatick partitioning fail when booting ISO as USB stick

2010-12-19 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
This change in svn should improve or solve this issue:

  * Preseed partman-auto/init_automatically_partition to try to get
automatic partitioning working with ISO booted as USB stick.
Flag it as seen to avoid presenting the question to the user
(Closes: #606314).

Happy hacking,

I doubt that the Release Team would accept a new upstream version now (nor

fwiw, there was a mention of this on -release a few weeks ago, but

Bug#607535: [aeskulap] FTBFS with linker flag --as-needed

2010-12-19 Thread Stefan Potyra
Package: aeskulap
Version: 0.2.2b1-6
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

aeskulap fails to build from source, if --as-needed is used as linker flag
[1,2]. The reason is that --as-needed enforces a strict linking order (symbol
users in front of symbol definitions).

Attached is a patch that fixes the problem. You'll also need to run autoreconf
after applying the patch.

Cheers,
   Stefan.

Bug#607536: partman-auto: Do not automatically select the correct disk when using isohybrid ISO on USB stick

2010-12-19 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Package: partman-auto
Version: 95
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
UserTags: debian-edu

The automatic partition in Debian Edu/Squeeze do not work completely
automatically when using our isohybrid ISO as a USB stick. The reason
is that the USB stick is seen as a useful disk to use, and because
this cause more than one disk to be found, a debconf question about
which disk to use is presented.

It would be better if get_auto_disks() in auto-shared.sh would ignore
a USB stick with a isohybrid image. One way to detect it would be to
see that /cdrom is mounted from that disk.

Happy hacking,

Bug#607538: [aewm++-goodies] FTBFS with linker flag --as-needed

2010-12-19 Thread Stefan Potyra
Package: aewm++-goodies
Version: 1.0-9
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,
aewm++-goodies fails to build from source, if --as-needed is used as a linker
flag [1,2]. The reason is that --as-needed enforces a strict link order (symbol
users in front of symbol definitions).

Attached is a patch that fixes the problem.

Cheers,
   Stefan.

Bug#607488: ITP: geoip-database-contrib -- MaxMind GeoIP (lite) binary database downloader script

Ludovico Cavedon schrieb am Sunday, den 19. December 2010:

What makes this better than geoipupdate from the geoip-bin package?

geoipupdate from the geoip-bin
-downloads the subscription based version of the database, not the free one
-downloads only the GeoIP database, and not those with the city and AS
numbers

geoip-database-contrib, instead, downloads the free version of all the
four databases (under a BSD-like license, but available only in binary
format).

The four databases are available also in CSV format but:
-the GeoIP libraries require the binary version
-the code for generating the binary version from the CSV one is not
available (except for the GeoIP.dat one), and I am not planning to write
it, at least in the short term

I hope this answers your question.

Cheers,
Ludovico

Bug#605122: [Pkg-clamav-devel] Bug#605122: excessive logging of Network is unreachable fills up /var[/log/clamav/freshclam.log]

2010-12-19 Thread Stephen Gran
This one time, at band camp, Enrico Zini said:
although I purged freshclam (and clamav) from my system, a
/usr/bin/freshclam -d --quiet process was left running, which kept the
huge freshclam.log open, which left its disk space in /var/ allocated
although I had deleted the file manually.

freshclam being purged meant that the stop script in /etc/init.d was not
there anymore to be used to shut freshclam down; killing the freshclam
process manually obviously put an end to all the sufferings and freed
 that 1.2Gb I needed in my /var.

I personally have no problems dealing with a scenario of disk space is
not freed while the file is still open coupled with purging freshclam
leaves the daemon running and freshclam keeps its logfile open all the
time, but I can see how it all can cause a rather bad friday afternoon
to many, especiall because at that point du and friends will not show
you where the disk space is used anymore :(

du and df disagreeing is almost always a sign of an open but deleted
file. lsof is your friend in these cases.

It sounds like the main bug is that the init script failed to kill
freshclam here. Can you provide any more info or help us to reproduce
it? I know that freshclam blocks some of the useful shutdown signals
while it's in the chunk of code concerned with downloads (which, without
a network, will be more time than normal), but the initscript does try
very hard to make sure it's killed off even so.

Cheers,

Romain, what are the next steps to get the above mentioned versions into

Bug#607539: mathgl: FTBFS on many architectures (i386, kfreebsd-i386, powerpc, s390, sparc)

2010-12-19 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Source: mathgl

Justification: FTBFS

Hi

Setting Severity to 'important' as this does only affect the version
currently in experimental.

mathgl 1.11.0.1-1 seems to FTBFS on many architectures. See e.g. for
i386 [1] or an overview [2].

https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=mathgl;ver=1.11.0.1-1;arch=i386;stamp=1292773211

I have not further investigated what the cause may be.

Thanks Dimitrios for the update.

 it's mapped through dual VIOS.)

Any idea what went wrong with the squeeze LPAR? Is this maybe an issue
 with the ibmvscsic kernel module?

Let the patred maintainer decide whether it is a parted or ibmvscsic
module issue.

Forwarding to bug 332227 and reassigning to parted.

Bug#607542: exim4: errors expanding MAIN_RELAY_NETS, ETC_MAILNAME etc

2010-12-19 Thread Arnout Engelen
Package: exim4
Version: 4.69-9+lenny1
Severity: important

Lurking in #exim, it appears the recent security update in stable is causing
problems related to expanding macros/variables like MAIN_RELAY_NETS and
ETC_MAILNAME in the configuration.

Symptoms include not being able to send mail at all, errors such as:

2010-12-18 17:07:48 1PTzK0-0001uY-PW = arnou...@etc_mailname U=arnouten
P=local S=1953 id=20101218160748.gs25...@bzzt.net

2010-12-18 17:07:48 1PTzK0-0001uY-PW Process failed (1) when writing error
message to arnou...@etc_mailname (frozen)

And in another instance:

2010-12-19 10:30:06 no IP address found for host MAIN_RELAY_NETS (during SMTP
connection from localhost (li37-79.members.linode.com) [127.0.0.1])

Unfortunately I've somehow fixed the problem in my instance without properly
understanding what's going on, but I figured it might be good to collect
information in a bugreport anyhow.

For the ETC_MAILNAME problem i believe the workaround was to manually replace
ETC_MAILNAME with the contents of /etc/mailname in the configfile used by exim
- but that's obviously a workaround...
