Bug#607737: tagging for squeeze

2010-12-27 Thread Julien Cristau
user release.debian@packages.debian.org
usertag 607737 squeeze-will-remove
kthxbye

Hi,

libuninum5 has two reverse dependencies, numconv (same source) and
msort. Same maintainer, no maintainer upload since Feb 2009 (for msort)
and Apr 2008 (libuninum). libuninum seems dead upstream (2.7 seems to
be from Dec 2007), msort had a 8.53 release in Jan 2010 which is not
packaged. So I'm leaning towards removing both of them from squeeze.

As far as the bugfix, somebody should probably check whether msort
actually works on 64bit archs with the current libuninum, and if it does
make sure the fix doesn't break it.

Cheers,
Julien

thanks

I have downloaded the code and compiled it, and I can reproduce the bug. So I
think this is an upstream bug.

Bug#608159: Clarifying http entries in /etc/services

2010-12-27 Thread Jeff Hanson
Package: netbase
Version: 4.44

Bug # 442304 changed the service name of port 8080 to http-alt as per
IANA. The problem is that http-alt is not unique on IANA's list as
it is shared with 8008 and 591:
http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers

Wikipedia has different name assignments:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TCP_and_UDP_port_numbers

I recommend the following changes and additions:
http-alt 8008 # Alternate HTTP
http_alt8080 webcache# WWW Caching service
http_alt_alt 8090 # Alternate HTTP

These being all unofficial there isn't any hard rule for their
names/assignments and there are plenty of exceptions. There are a lot
of firewall help sites that list the ones I'm recommending but I'm
unsure if they are using different sources or just using Wikipedia's
list. Deciding a popularity contest with Google isn't ideal but I'm
more concerned with uniqueness in the service names versus popular
usage.

8090 is used by Tsung/IDX-Tsunami but it's not in Debian
http://tsung.erlang-projects.org/user_manual.html#htoc22

VLC uses 8080 for streaming over http.

Bug#608160: wraplinux: FTBFS: needs libc6-dev-i386 for gnu/stubs-32.h on amd64

2010-12-27 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: wraplinux
Version: 1.7-2
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

AMD64 builds of wraplinux in minimal environments (such as the
autobuilders) are failing with the error

/usr/include/gnu/stubs.h:7:27: error: gnu/stubs-32.h: No such file or directory

Adding a build dependency on libc6-dev-i386 [amd64] should address
that, but I would recommend checking whether any others might be
missing. Conversely, you might also need a build dependency on
libc6-dev-amd64 [i386] if the tool is fully universal.

Could you please take a look?

Thanks!

Bug#607778: gssdp: needs versioned build-dep on libsoup2.4-dev

2010-12-27 Thread Andres Salomon
Hi,

Section 4.2 of policy disagrees with your claim that this should be
wishlist:

If build-time dependencies are specified, it must be possible to build
the package and produce working binaries on a system with only
essential and build-essential packages installed and also those
required to satisfy the build-time relationships (including any implied
relationships). In particular, this means that version clauses should
be used rigorously in build-time relationships so that one cannot
produce bad or inconsistently configured packages when the
relationships are properly satisfied.

That said, I don't see it being critical for squeeze.

Bug#608162: metacity: Enabling compositing causes several applications to crash X server

2010-12-27 Thread Jeremy Salwen
Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.30.1-3
Severity: normal

After enabling compositing in metacity (by using gconf-editor), the X server
will repeatedly crash when I start up certain applications.

Compositing will work when enabled, and for some applications it seems fine.
However, it will crash the X server when some applications are started.
Quadrapassel and glxgears will crash the X server immediately. Chromium-
browser will first open up a window, but then crash within half a second while
it appears to be attempting to resize itself. All of these work fine when
compositing is not enabled.

I get a backtrace from the X server, which I will try to attach. I installed
the xserver-xorg-core-dbg, as well as a libmesa-dri (or something like that)
dbg package, but the backtraces I'm getting still don't list function names.

The original submitter agreed with you on the severity. That's good
enough for me.

I can do the upload if you like. However, I'm confused by your

confused because I can see only one patch prior to this, and the later
patch seems to be a patch on the original patch. Can you

there are 4 other patches I'm missing.

The original submitter agreed with you on the severity. That's good

I can do the upload if you like.

That'd be good.

 However, I'm confused by your
message of 2010-12-17, where you said Patch 5 in a series:. I'm
confused because I can see only one patch prior to this, and the later
patch seems to be a patch on the original patch. Can you
confirm whether the following is the intended change or whether
there are 4 other patches I'm missing.

Sorry about the confusion. My local branch for this bug, 542915 in
http://github.com/mpalmer/pbuilder, has three other patches in it (to
auto-unmount everything, rename mountproc to mountall, and improve an error
message), and so the other patch I attached to this bug report is #5 in that
series.

To clarify, the two patches that needed to fix this bug are:

0001-Ensure-that-nothing-is-still-mounted-before-deleting.patch
0005-Robustify-the-is-anything-mounted-check.patch

The other three patches in the series are refactorings/improvements, and
should not (IMHO) be made as part of an NMU.

 I had a simmilar problem.
Using an explicit TLS_CACERT with the specific crt/pem file works around.

Note that as it copies certificates into the /etc/ssl/certs directory,
the update-ca-certificates command also creates a single large file
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt containing copies of all of those
certificates.

Thus the OP may be able to use the line
  TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
in place of the original
  TLS_CACERTDIR /etc/ssl/certs
line to achieve the goal of having the LDAP clients validate
successfully against servers using certificates issued by both his own
own root CA and by proper CA certs.

(The update-ca-certificates command is included in the ca-certificates
package, and is called automatically by that package's postinst script
[but can be run manually as well; see the man page for more info].)

Bug#608169: ftp.debian.org: Please clean up queue for NEW libcgi-application-plugin-authentication-perl

2010-12-27 Thread Nicholas Bamber
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

I am trying to split up the libcgi-application-extra-plugin-bundle-perl package
into (at this time 5) more manageable packages.
Yesterday three of the spin offs were successfully uploaded but this is the
second and unsuccessful attempt for
libcgi-application-plugin-authentication-perl.
The first attempt was supposedly successful but failed to include the
two subsidiary tarballs. The second correct upload was rejected
because the main tarball was already present.
Please do whatever is needed to either allow the second attempt to go through
or be reattempted.
In particular I would be very grateful if this could be done BEFORE
any new overrides are written so that all four soin offs could enter unstable
together.

Ah, now I think understand what you're saying. You say you want
curl_easy_unescape() to convert '+' into space. Right?

Yes, possibly CR/LF translation should be done, too, I haven't checked
if curl does it yet. Also, I'd like curl_easy_escape to convert space
to '+' because sometimes that's important too (e.g. protocols like
OAuth rely on both sides to perform conversion the same way).

I'm afraid we can't do that easily without breaking older apps. We
should clarify the docs to make this described better.

That's why I suggest you to make a CURLOPT_RFC1738 option (enabled by
default) disabling which will switch it to W3C's behaviour.

Obtaining the module object from Python failed.

So the problem is that python-xpcom does not work when it has been
previously installed, and then during an upgrade the new version has
been unpacked but not configured ?

The remaining problem is that python-xpcom does not work when it was not
previously installed but xulrunner-1.9.1 was.

If you add a dependency from xulrunner to python-xpcom this problem
ought to go away (although if that would lead to a circular dependency
the situation is more complicated as dpkg will need to break the
 cycle).

Plus, xulrunner doesn't need python-xpcom. The problem is that xulrunner
trigger can't work when python-xpcom is only unpacked. It can only work
after python-support trigger has run (or update-python-modules has been
run from python-xpcom postinst, for that matter).

The root of the problem, really, is that python packages can't be used
when only simply unpacked.

do you have any proof of that (or it's just a supposition)?

The wiki[1] contains information from *real* user-testing data..
 That's not my supposition.

that page contains NO data at all, just a synthesis of users reports
(or whatever information you've retrieved in someway).

Not sure what kind of real proof we are expecting here.

Bug#605065: Bug#607662: ncurses-base: backspace key deletes forwards on the kFreeBSD console

2010-12-27 Thread Petr Salinger

How long is that going to take? In the meantime, console users of
GNU/kFreeBSD are screwed whenever they connect to other systems, since
that means they must change their TERM variable _and_ their backspace
key is broken.

I've attached the necessary patches to create the cons25-debian
terminfo entry and the patch for sysvinit, which seem to work for me
in a fresh kfreebsd-amd64 installation in kvm (patching /etc/inittab
is necessary, though). If they're useful, great; if not, that's okay,
too.

The cons25-debian name might not be a very good one if you want to that
push terminfo entry to other systems. That may be for Thomas to decide.

Personally I'm leaning towards reverting the changes to the kFreeBSD
kernel and freebsd-utils for Squeeze. Surely, it means a somewhat
broken console, but at least the problems are about the same as in
FreeBSD proper, and we don't create additional incompatibilities with
other systems.

I see two basic options:

1) plain cons25 variant: current sysvinit, ncurses
   and kfreebsd-8 8.1+dfsg-6, freebsd-utils 8.1-2

It does not conform to debian policy, the backspace/delete key is somewhat
broken on console and somewhat broken when connection to other systems
from console

2) cons25-debian variant: needs patched sysvinit, patched ncurses,
   and kfreebsd-8 8.1+dfsg-7, freebsd-utils 8.1-3

It does conform to debian policy, the backspace/delete key works
on console, it is needed to set TERM when connection to other systems
from console and is somewhat broken when connection is made to other
systems directly from console.

In both cases the connection to other systems from running X is fine.
In both cases there will be change (and fix) for FreeBSD 9.x kernel,
as it already has TEKEN_XTERM as a default.

The cons25-debian seems be fine for me, as it should be only local change
for one release of Debian GNU/kFreeBSD. The next one will not use it.

And there is a third option, mixture of both above.
As a default use the plain cons25 variant. Additionaly provide
cons25-debian entry in ncurses and special debian keymap in freebsd-utils.
By default it will work as variant 1, but there is a possibility
to set TERM to cons25-debian and set keymap which would generate the
correct sequences for cons25-debian.

This variant needs current sysvinit, patched ncurses, patched kfreebsd-8
and patched freebsd-utils.

My personal order of preferences is 3, 1, 2.
All seems better compared to current status.

Petr

backend and would like to have their old calendars available after the
 upgrade.

Thanks for your work on this package.

Unfortunately, you can't write your preinst in Python, as the python
interpreter package is not essential so you cannot rely on it being
available at the time your preinst runs. Even adding the Pre-Depends
for the interpreter is not sufficient; Policy only requires that the
Pre-Depended package be unpacked at the point that the new preinst runs
and as python is not essential there is no guarantee that it will be
sufficiently operational when unpacked but not installed.

In general terms, your preinst should also handle the arguments which
will be passed to it and not attempt the migration if being called as
part of the rollback of a failed install.

When adding new Pre-Depends to your package, these should be discussed
on debian-devel beforehand. One of the reasons that this is required is
that Pre-Depends generally make the life of the package manager harder
when computing upgrades, and there are often better solutions; in this
case, I suspect the above advice about not writing the preinst in Python
would have been given.

Adam

Description: math formula converter library
Formconv is a general conversion library and tool between different
formats for math formulae. It currently supports intuitive (a simplified
Pascal-like syntax), MathML and LISP as input formats and lots of
different output formats (among the others: LaTeX, HTML, MuPAD,
Mathematica, Maple, Maxima, gnuplot, Java, C, MathML and LISP).

Formconv is mainly used in mathematics web applications to check the
input syntactically and convert it to various formats in order to work
on it by other programs: CAS or other mathematics tools. Although many
CAS are able to export formulas in various formats, formconv is known to
be faster and smaller as a general tool. However, there are no official
statistics or benchmarking tests yet to show scientifically reliable
differences of efficiency of the export facility of the mathematical
systems and formconv.

This package is a dependendy of rtzme (bug #599623).

It would also be interesting to see updated kernel output, at least the

Bug#608022: make it clear that only upgrades from lenny are supported

Hi,

 But on
 http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html

there is no explicit reference to etch, few times there is mention about
lenny, but only as starting assumption, to simplify text.
This chapter is even titled Upgrades from previous releases
(plural), suggesting it is supported somehow.

Chapter 1 Introduction says:

Please note that we only support and document upgrading from the
previous release of Debian (in this case, the upgrade from 5.0).
If you need to upgrade from older releases, we suggest you read
previous editions of the release notes and upgrade to 5.0 first.

But Chapter 4 Upgrades from previous releases only says:

4.1. Preparing for the upgrade

We suggest that before upgrading you also read the information
in Chapter 5, Issues to be aware of for squeeze. That chapter
covers potential issues not directly related to the upgrade
process but which could still be important to know about before
you begin.

[...]
4.2. Checking system status

The upgrade process described in this chapter has been designed
for upgrades from “pure” lenny systems without third-party
packages. For the greatest reliability of the upgrade process,
you may wish to remove third-party packages from your system
before you begin upgrading.

This procedure also assumes your system has been updated to the
latest point release of lenny. If you have not done this or are
unsure, follow the instructions in Section A.1, “Upgrading your
lenny system”.

Perhaps this should make explicit (between the two paragraphs of 4.2)
that

It is not suggested to skip major Debian releases when upgrading
between stable releases.

and the chapter be retitled to something like Upgrades from lenny.

 Greetings,

Hi,

Yes, I do expect some progress, but this is on the hands of the upstream
author. He promised me a patch for it.

No, this package is *far* from useless without this bug fix. You can use
eXtplorer using direct access to the hard drive of your server, and this
would be the way I would recommend in fact (because much faster).

Soeren: I'm a bit desapointed that you didn't send me that patch that
you promised me, especially if you say that it's already fixed in your
latest version. Do you realize that we are *very* close from the release
of Squeeze, and that it's going to be very hard to get it fixed once
Squeeze is out? Can you see that I'm not the only one disappointed here? :)

Anyway, Merry Christmas!

Thomas

Bug#608109: tbl_replace.php problems with mod_gnutls

2010-12-27 Thread Grzegorz Bizon
Package: phpmyadmin
Version: 4:2.11.8.1-5+lenny6
Serverity: important

Hello.

I have experienced strange problem with PhpMyAdmin and mod_gnutls.
Everything is working fine, except adding entries.

When trying to insert some values into table, tbl_replace.php download
is invoked (something like there where no AddHandler .php, but every
other part of PhpMyAdmin is working properly).

This occurs only when using PhpMyAdmin via SSL with mod_gnutls. When
switching to mod_ssl - everything works fine.

This quite strange problem, I'm not sure if maybe this is mod_gnutls
bug, but other applications are cooperating with mod_gnutls with
no problems (for example roundcube webmail).

Can anyone reproduce this problem ?

Versions of packages:

ii apache2-mpm-prefork 2.2.9-10+lenny8

When looking up an ip-address on an ipv6-enabled system, libc tries to
find an A and an -record. But, if some machine has only an A but
no record it returns host-not-found (see tcpdump below)

So one can only connect (with e.g. iceweasel, w3m, telnet) to hosts
with both A and records (or server with cname-records)

On an ipv4-only machine this can be solved by disabling ipv6
completly, but on a dualstack-machine, i found no way to fix this.

I found this on bug on two ways, an installing squeeze via d-i (the
ipv4 only machine) and via upgrading from lenny to squeeze

I do have an ipv6 enabled machine here, and I can connect to ipv4-only
hosts just fine with w3m or any other programs.

Have you modified your /etc/gai.conf, are you using nscd with hosts
caching ?

Bug#502305: Temporary packages for ulogd2

2010-12-27 Thread Pierre Chifflier
Hi (and merry Christmas),

Now that libnetfilter-log has been uploaded to sid, I can now work again
on the packages for ulogd2.

I've uploaded my current packages for ulogd2 at this location:
https://www.wzdftpd.net/downloads/ulogd2-deb/

I've rewritten the packaging from scratch, it was easier, (the packaging
stuff is almost empty). I've not taken the previous changelog / authors
/ uploaders etc., but it's part of the things I want to do.

The plan would be to upload to experimental, but before doing that, can
you check the packages and tell me if you agree with the current ones or
have any comment ?

Regards,
Pierre

Not relevant here.

This is the problem.

What OOo does is the following:

BUILD_DEPS += , libdb-dev

In any case, I am not going to change this.

Yes, the cross-reference is not correct. The actual sources are

Bug#587955: Install resolvconf is indeed an alternative

2010-12-27 Thread kA kA
Dear Andrew,

you are absolutely right. Installing resolvconf solves the problem for me.
Thanx for the hint.

So from my point of view, a fix is still desirable but not so urgent any more.

Best regards,
Ralf

P.S. I used to install the absolute minimum of packages possible since the
installation sits on a flash drive. But prices have come down so much in the
last several years that this is no longer necessary.

Bug#606313: debian-edu-install: LTSP installation fail when booting ISO as USB stick

Based on feedback from Vagrant on IRC, I was able to get the LTSP

This patch did the trick.

I tried first to just add '|| true' to the mount and umount calls, but
this caused LTSP to install properly but the grub step after it to
fail. The reason was that the CD was umounted by LTSP, and apt were
unable to mount it again when grub needed to install more packages.
Given that LTSP should only umount what it mounted, I believe my patch
make more sense.

Not sure if we need to make changed LTSP packages to implement this
change in Squeeze, or if we can get away with providing our overrides.

Happy hacking,

Q: Can I compile or use the diet libc with a compiler that is not gcc?
 A: Compile: no. Use: yes.

So worrying about what *BSD/Solaris do would be pointless.

All this patch does is remove some underscores so that endian.h
checks __sparcv9 like is done in longlong.h. I only tested with gcc,
but this should work with the sun compiler too, if it's even
possible to use the sun compiler on linux.

Unlike reverting patch 0013, this should work even when compiling
 without -Os.

I was initially hesitant to give this bug a very high severity,
since it very indirectly breaks the system, but I suppose I need to
do that so #603882 can be fixed. I did try recompiling util-vserver
with this patched dietlibc-dev and it works now.

Thanks, I've applied a similar patch, adding defined(__arch64__) as
alternative since that seems to be defined by gcc -m64 on Debian/sparc,
whereas __sparcv9 isn't, so hopefully this will fix sparc and not break
sparc64. I'll upload the NMU in a minute, can you check afterwards that
603882 goes away?

Gerrit, please find the NMU diff attached.

Cheers,
Julien

Hi,

Yes, I do expect some progress, but this is on the hands of the upstream

No, this package is *far* from useless without this bug fix. You can use
eXtplorer using direct access to the hard drive of your server, and this
would be the way I would recommend in fact (because much faster).

Soeren: I'm a bit desapointed that you didn't send me that patch that
you promised me, especially if you say that it's already fixed in your
latest version. Do you realize that we are *very* close from the release
of Squeeze, and that it's going to be very hard to get it fixed once
Squeeze is out? Can you see that I'm not the only one disappointed here? :)

Anyway, Merry Christmas!

that still make use of mailcap entries to the freedesktop specification.

Or alternatively, you can write a system to generate mailcap entries
automatically based on desktop files.

My personal feeling is that this bug and similar ones, asking to add
mailcap entries to hundreds of applications that don’t have them

I have experienced strange problem with PhpMyAdmin and mod_gnutls.
Everything is working fine, except adding entries.

When trying to insert some values into table, tbl_replace.php download
is invoked (something like there where no AddHandler .php, but every
other part of PhpMyAdmin is working properly).

I guess the resulting file is just empty and not actually the php code.

Maybe there are problems with big POST requests in the mod_gnutls?

I really fail to see what could be broken in phpMyAdmin so that it would
work with mod_ssl and would fail with mod_gnutls, so I'm reassigning
this bug.

 Greetings,

You can create users by editing /etc/extplorer/.htusers.php!!!

Sure, it's not so convenient, but it still makes this software usable.

Bug#608117: missing quoting in /etc/init.d/acpi-support

2010-12-27 Thread Ferenc Wagner
Package: acpi-support
Version: 0.138-3

Hi,

/etc/init.d/acpi-support contains this code block:

for SCRIPT in /etc/acpi/start.d/*.sh; do
if [ -f $SCRIPT ] ; then

done

The command '. $SCRIPT' above should be '. $SCRIPT' in my opinion
to avoid strange behaviour if the administrator puts a file with a
space in its name in /etc/acpi/start.d in a bad moment of his/hers.

Regards,
Feri.

Hi LaMont,

as we would like to use the new agetty -s option in systemd, please
consider packaging a newer git snapshot including [1] and [2] or
cherry-picking those two commits for the current version in unstable.

I've attached a squashed and refreshed patch based on those two commits
for your convenience.

Looks like the lenny version didn't get installed properly. Did this
 error get ignored?

zabbix-server-mysql does not depend on a locally installed mysql-server. It
can also use an remote Database during the setup (thanks to dbconfig-common).
It however uses its default values if there is no user input.

Thats the reason for mysql-server only beeing in the recommends.

After having a quick look the run was trying to install the zabbix-server-mysql
package without mysql-server - so installation failed. Then it was installing
mysql-server but still the package was not setup correctly, resulting in also
the update failing.

Lucas: how should we proceed with those two bugs now?

Eyeballs and testing would be welcome. In particular, I'm not entirely

Bug#608120: Please backport support for fsck -l (whole disk lock)

2010-12-27 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: util-linux
Version: 2.17.2-5
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: syst...@packages.debian.org

Hi LaMont,

we'd like to use the new fsck -l (whole disk locking) option in systemd.

Please consider packaging a Git snapshot containing [1] or a cherry-pick
of that commit for the current version in unstable.

I've attached a patch based on [2] for your convenience.

Strictly speaking fsck/base_device.c is no longer necessary, so the
fedora patch removes that file from fsck/Makefile.am and regenerates the
build system.

I decided against that but if you prefer that I can provide and updated
patch for 2.17.2.

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks for your bugreport.

Incidentally I've used --replyto yesterday (for the first time), and
it worked fine.

Looking through the code, the replyto feature should be handled

That explains why it works for me, since I still use basic auth; and
if you use OAuth we know the cause for the problem. [0]

The good thing is that this is already fixed in upstream git (i.e.

Bug#608121: schroot: Add support for unionfs-fuse

2010-12-27 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: schroot
Version: 1.4.16-1
Severity: wishlist

Since the kernels in experimental do not ship aufs, it would be
great if you could add support for unionfs-fuse as well. I have
the following patch applied in my setup.d script to automatically
fall back to unionfs-fuse if the native solution is not available,
as that allows me to build fast when running under 2.6.32 and use
the slower FUSE-based way when running newer kernels.

I'm not quite sure yet what CVE-2010-4411 refers to. It seems that the
fix for CVE-2010-2761 was not complete, but it is not a different, new
issue?

Thanks for digging this out; I was looking a few times and never
understood CVE-2010-4411 ...

Assuming this is the case, I'm attaching preliminary patches for

Thanks!

 I haven't looked at libcgi-simple-perl at all.

I think Damyan has started to look at it.

Cheers,
gregor

Bug#545414: sudo-ldap: sudo fails with sudo: setreuid(ROOT_UID, user_uid): Operation not permitted for ldap users

2010-12-27 Thread Arthur de Jong

If no-one thinks it is a bad idea I can change the earlier text to be a

I've updated the patch to the release notes (attached) to become a
recommendation to switch to nss-pam-ldapd.

Note that I don't think this will totally fix the problem with sudo-ldap
(haven't checked) because it will still do LDAP searches to retrieve the
sudoers information. If those searches go over SSL/TLS the problem will
still be triggered.

Dear release notes team, should this change be committed to the release
notes?

Also, do you think it is a good idea to highlight the switch to
nss-pam-ldapd a bit more in the What's new section? I think it should
also be a good idea to switch for people not affected by this specific
problem. I can provide a patch if needed.

Thanks.
