Bug#602028: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the fts package

2011-04-21 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of fts and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the fts Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de es fr it ja pt pt_BR ru sk sv vi zh_CN

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the fts package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, April 30,
2011. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Sunday, April 17, 2011 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Friday, April 22, 2011 : send this notice
Saturday, April 30, 2011 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Sunday, May 01, 2011 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, May 08, 2011 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Hey,

Sorry for the long wait.

Personally I am okay with the patch; would it be possible to convince
you to write a test case for this tag (see t/tests/README for howto/hints)?
Feel free to submit the test in a separate patch.

Bug#618790: AST-2011-003: Resource exhaustion in Asterisk Manager Interface

retitlle 618790 asterisk: AST-2011-005: File Descriptor Resource Exhaustion

thanks

As you may have noticed, this issue was not yet fixed. Here's a quick
update:

Looking further into the issue, I realised that the fix they put there
(break the connection in case of a failed write) does not help a bit.
The real issue is that you can just open a connection, wait as long as
you want, and consume a file descriptor from Asterisk in the process.

I approached Digium with this. They took my initial fix, improved it and
started testing it. Only to realise that this also applies to other
TCP services. Which meant more patching and more testing.

While they were at it, they realised that the test in the Asterisk code
for the "system" privs in the manager interface is missing altogether in
1.4 and misses an important case in later versions. If you'll look at
the patch in it for Squeeze you'll see that Debian was missing one other
case that was already fixed upstream of some revered logic.

Looks like a permission problem the second time you start Xfce.

Bug#623670: highlight-common: prompts during upgrade about filetypes.conf

2011-04-21 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: highlight-common
Version: 2.16-1
Justification: policy §10.7.3

Hi,

From today's upgrade:

| Unpacking highlight-common (from .../highlight-common_2.16-1_all.deb) ...
| Setting up highlight-common (2.16-1) ...
|
| Configuration file `/etc/highlight/filetypes.conf'
| ==> Deleted (by you or by a script) since installation.
| ==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
|What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
| Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
| N or O : keep your currently-installed version
| D : show the differences between the versions
| Z : start a shell to examine the situation
| The default action is to keep your current version.
| *** filetypes.conf (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?

Indeed:

| $ ls -l /etc/highlight
| total 4
| -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1758 Apr 2 2010 filetypes.conf.dpkg-new
| $

I do not recall touching that file myself, so it looks like a bug (as
policy §10.7.3 explains, conffiles are not supposed to be modified or
removed by scripts).

Any ideas for tracking this down?

Thanks for highlight. :) I've been hoping to use it for
syntax-highlighting in my local gitweb instance some day soon.

Jonathan

The stable release of "gvfs" depends on this new API apparently due
to this new feature:

Do you know when upstream plans to release 1.2.0?

You have "xargs" to solve this problem.

BTW, don't parse /var/lib/dpkg/status directly either, but use "dpkg-query

Bug#623669: uim: is the libxp-dev build-dependency necessary?

2011-04-21 Thread Drew Parsons
Source: uim
Version: 1:1.5.7-9.1
Severity: minor

You have a build-depends on libxp-dev, but no dependency on libxp6 in
your binary package. This likely means you don't actually need
libxp-dev. The build-depends may have turned up historically when the
monolithic Xfree86 package was split into X.org modules (when the
all-encompassing xlibs package was split into separate libx*
packages).

libxp is a library which provides an API that enables client programs
to access and use an Xprint server. The xprint package is obsolete and
scheduled for removal. Since we're getting rid of xprint, one could
argue it makes sense to get rid of libxp as well.

This bug has been filed to prompt you to check if you really want
Xprint (libxp-dev) support in your package. You may find you also
don't need some of the other libx*-dev build-dependencies.

We'll leave libxp in the archives for the time being until you and the
other packages using it have determined whether you want to keep the
dependency. But we'll be removing xprint itself and other related
packages now.

It's no problem for me if you will kindly proceed with
the NMU immediately.

I have a trouble with (possibly?) debconf-updatepo and
svn-buildpackage so I can't build the package successfully
at present (or more precisely since around Nov. 2010).

I'm not sure yet if this is already know problem or not
but whenenver I tried to build the package I got an error:

You have a build-depends on libxp-dev, but no dependency on libxp6 in your
binary package. This likely means you don't actually need libxp-dev.
The build-depends may have turned up historically when the monolithic
Xfree86 package was split into X.org modules (when the
all-encompassing xlibs package was split into separate libx*
packages).

libxp is a library which provides an API that enables client
programs to access and use an Xprint server. The xprint package is
obsolete and scheduled for removal. Since we're getting rid of
xprint, one could argue it makes sense to get rid of libxp as well.

This bug has been filed to prompt you to check if you really want
Xprint (libxp-dev) support in your package.

We'll leave libxp in the archives for the time being until you and the
other packages using it have determined whether you want to keep the
dependency. But we'll be removing xprint itself and other related
packages now.

Bug#623657: sun-java6: is the libxp6 build-dependency necessary?

2011-04-21 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: sun-java6
Version: 6.24-1
Severity: wishlist

The xprint package is obsolete and scheduled for removal. A related
library is libxp, which provides an API that enables client programs
to access and use an Xprint server. Since we're getting rid of
xprint, one could argue it makes sense to get rid of libxp as well.

Your package build-depends on libxp6. This situation sometimes arises
historically from the time before xprint was considered obsolete, with
Build-depends: libxp-dev being set in the past and then forgotten and
untouched. In your case it's a bit more odd since you have a
build-depends on the binary library libxp6 rather than the development
library libxp-dev.

This bug has been filed to prompt you to check if you really need
Xprint (libxp) support in your package.

You have lesstif2 and lesstif-bin depending on libxp6
and lesstif2-dev depending on libxp-dev.

We'll leave libxp in the archives for the time being until you and the
other packages using it have determined whether you want to keep the
dependency. But we'll be removing xprint itself and other related
packages now.

Bug#505254: www.debian.org: Ability to sort RFP/ITP pages by age

2011-04-21 Thread David Prévot
Hi,

Le lundi 10 novembre 2008 23:21:22, vous avez écrit :

> It would be nice to have the ability to sort the WNPP sub-pages by age.
> Possibly even additionally the "age since initiation" and "age since
> last activty".

We're talking about the http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/being_packaged page
(and similar ones). I'm willing to try and implement such feature, but would
like some help for the wording.

Currently, we have:
- , in preparation since today.
- , in preparation since yesterday.
- , %s days in preparation.

I'd propose something like:
- , %s days in preparation, last activity today.
- , %s days in preparation, last activity yesterday.
- , %s days in preparation, last activity %s days ago.

Or eventually, if a rewording of the first part is really needed:
- <...>, preparation started %s days ago, last activity today.
- <...>, preparation started %s days ago, last activity yesterday.
- <...>, preparation started %s days ago, last activity %s days ago.

Also, for the index, I hope the following would be fine:
- %s packages being worked on, by age
- %s packages being worked on, by last activity

Even if it's short, I'm pretty sure I may propose ugly cheesy English as
usual, so I'd welcome some proofread; better wording highly welcome.

Regards

David

P.-S.: Not sure someone already wrote it, but I'm not the only one who agree
with the following: Justin your help on the DPN (among other stuff) is really
welcome, thanks a lot for being usually responsive on such a short notice.

Your package depends on libxp. This situation sometimes arises
historically from the time before xprint was considered obsolete, with
Build-depends: libxp-dev being set in the past and then forgotten and
untouched.

This bug has been filed to prompt you to check if you really want
Xprint (libxp) support in your package.

We'll leave libxp in the archives for the time being until you and the
other packages using it have determined whether you want to keep the
dependency. But we'll be removing xprint itself and other related
packages now.

Bug#482092: Ping

2011-04-21 Thread micah anderson

So, back in 2009 this bug was opened and it seems to have been stalled,
partly because people thought that XTS was not mainstream enough, but
its 2011 now and a lot of people use it.

I agree with the "don't hide things from the user and don't double the
key without telling them" sentiments that are raised, but howdy, can we
get some resolution on this and get them in please? Its really annoying
to have to drop to a shell in d-i and wget some modules, and get them
loaded and then modify partmancrypto's available options on every
machine, when it could just be built in.

danke,

GNOME Tweak Tool allows the adjustment of a number of GNOME
configuration settings that is felt would not be of interest to
ordinary users. This includes things like the fonts used in user
interface elements, alternative user interface themes, changes in
 window management behaviour and others.

Bug#623165: Updated graphviz to fix FTBFS caused by python 2.7

2011-04-21 Thread David Claughton
Hi Christoph,

Hope you're having a happy Easter (you too Seb).

I've just pushed some changes to the git repo to fix the recent FTBFS
which was caused by the introduction of python 2.7 to the archive.

I've thrown in a couple of other things including a patch for Hurd which
was submitted - just so you know I have no way to test this so I'm just
taking a flyer on it.

Could you please take a look and (assuming it looks OK) upload it for me?

Cheers,

David.

Bug#623634: libnet-rawip-perl: miscalculates header checksums

2011-04-21 Thread Steinar H. Gunderson
Package: libnet-rawip-perl
Version: 0.25-1
Severity: important

Hi,

It seems Net::RawIP, if you run a script using it long enough
(as in millions of generated UDP packets), eventually generates
bogus UDP checksums in the packets it's sending out (tcpdump
freaks out, the end hosts start ignoring them). I took a
look at the source, and it seems the following fragment from
RawIP.xs in the udp_pkt_creat() function is the culprit:

memcpy(ptr,(u_char*)&piu,20);
memcpy(ptr+20,SvPV(ip_opts,PL_na),SvCUR(ip_opts));
memcpy(ptr+20+SvCUR(ip_opts),(u_char*)&piu + 20,8);
((struct iphdr*)ptr)->check = in_cksum((unsigned short *)ptr,iplen);
RETVAL = newSVpv((char*)ptr, sizeof(IUPKT)+SvCUR(ip_opts));

You can't use cast-as-lvalue like this; it is an aliasing
violation, and with newer gcc seemingly something wrong happens
here. The easiest way to fix this is usually by using memcpy
(which has specific exceptions in POSIX from the aliasing rules),
like this:

   unsigned short cksum;
   [...]
   cksum = in_cksum((unsigned short *)ptr,iplen);
   memcpy(&((struct iphdr*)ptr)->check, &cksum, sizeof(cksum));

Adding this fragment seems to have fixed the issue for us;
at least it's running stable for a day or so. Granted, we also
run with noopt nostrip, so it _could_ be something else, but
it really sticks out as a sore thumb.

FWIW, there are similar fragments many other places in the code,
so you should probably fix all of them.

Same with kernel 2.6.38-2-amd64. I booted into the older 2.6.32-5-amd64
just to make sure.
After upgrading to sbcl Version: 1:1.0.47.0-2, got following in
emacs/slime:

; loading #P"/usr/share/common-lisp/source/slime/swank-loader.lisp"

debugger invoked on a SB-C::INPUT-ERROR-IN-COMPILE-FILE in thread
#:
  READ failure in COMPILE-FILE:

Same error in bare sbcl, and must manually load asdf.

The file /usr/lib/common-lisp/bin/sbcl.sh is not there.

I then downgraded sbcl (and cl-asdf, because both were upgraded at same
time), and all works fine as before. I then re-
upgraded both, and got the same error again.

Bug#623632: say how to just use an online version of apt-file, instead of maintaining a local copy

2011-04-21 Thread jidanni
Package: apt-file

If the user decides apt-file is too network-expensive and purges it,
that does not interrupt the running curl process.

Also important is saying on the package description and perhaps also man
page, how such a user could instead just give his apt-file queries to
some web page that could tell him the answer, instead of the user having
to maintain a local copy of the apt-file database.

There's no "vmx" in cpuinfo, but according to some maillists it's normal.
Actually it's exists and enabled.

I plan to provide those pages by “age since initiation” and “age since
last activity” as requested in #505254. Would these two mentions in the
list address this issue? It won't exactly provide the number of day of
work, as Gerfried said, it would require a fair amount of trick, and the
more I think about it, the more I can think of corner cases anyway.

Bug#605030: linux-2.6: bluetooth adapter ar3011

2011-04-21 Thread Alberto Cuadrado
If that device is actually a 0cf3:3000 that was changed to 0cf3:3002 by
firmware loading in the Windows driver, I think this problem is solved in
Debian by using linux kernel 2.6.38 and firmware-atheros package (>=0.28).

However, if it's a 0cf3:3002 like the one in a Dell Vostro V130, the problem
remains unsolved:

Bug#623628: libllvm-ocaml-2.8-dev: ocamlfind does not find llvm-2.8 META file

2011-04-21 Thread Guillaume Bau
Package: libllvm-ocaml-2.8-dev
Version: 2.8-2+b1
Severity: normal

when using ocamlfind to find llvm-2.8, ocamlfind does not find llvm-2.8, while
it can find other packages (unix for example) :

$ ocamlfind ocamlc -package unix -where
/usr/lib/ocaml

$ ocamlfind ocamlc -package llvm-2.8 -where
ocamlfind: Package `llvm-2.8' not found

The META file is correctly installed :
$ ls /usr/lib/ocaml/METAS/META.llvm-2.8
/usr/lib/ocaml/METAS/META.llvm-2.8

The problem seems to be the dot character in 'llvm-2.8', because strace reports
ocamlfind to look for META files with prefix or suffix 'llvm-2' :

$ strace ocamlfind ocamlc -package llvm-2.8 -where
[...]
stat("/usr/lib/ocaml/threads/threads.cma", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644,
st_size=41347, ...}) = 0
close(3)= 0
stat("/usr/local/lib/ocaml/3.12.0/llvm-2/META", 0x7fff46d7cfe0) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
stat("/usr/local/lib/ocaml/3.12.0/META.llvm-2", 0x7fff46d7cfe0) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
stat("/usr/lib/ocaml/llvm-2/META", 0x7fff46d7cfe0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
stat("/usr/lib/ocaml/META.llvm-2", 0x7fff46d7cfe0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
stat("/usr/lib/ocaml/METAS/llvm-2/META", 0x7fff46d7cfe0) = -1 ENOENT (No such
file or directory)
stat("/usr/lib/ocaml/METAS/META.llvm-2", 0x7fff46d7cfe0) = -1 ENOENT (No such
file or directory)
write(2, "ocamlfind: Package `llvm-2.8' no"..., 40ocamlfind: Package `llvm-2.8'
not found
) = 40
exit_group(2) = ?

I don't know if this behavior should be reported upstream or the META file
renamed.

Best regards

What is a SAN Manager here? An external tool?

Steps when unmapping a LUN is:
* Ensure it has been freed from the initiator. (Includes FS, DM)
* Unmap LUN on target
* Rescan scsi bus on Initiator

Bug#618900: xserver-xorg-video-mga: does not work with MGA G100 chip

2011-04-21 Thread Tormod Volden
I have gone through the logs. The detected max dotclock of the monitor
(from EDID) has changed from 90 to 95 MHz. The default mode has
changed from 1280x768@80.1Hz to 1360x768@84.8Hz.

Does it help to change resolution, for instance by blind-typing
"xrandr -s 800x600" ?

Can you please also provide the output from "xrandr --verbose" in both cases?
Either by blind-typing, or starting X like this:
 xinit -e 'sh -c "xrandr --verbose > xrandr.log" '

Also, with only 6MB of video RAM, you may want to reduce the color
depth. Try starting X with:
 xinit -- -depth 16
and you might get more available resolutions.

Bug#623627: hplip: bug script starts /usr/share/hplip/systray.py

2011-04-21 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: hplip
Version: 3.11.1-3
Severity: important
File: /usr/share/bug/hplip/script

When reporting a bug, the bug script causes /usr/share/hplip/systray.py
to be started. This is not acceptable. I expect that a bug script does
not start or stop any sort of service and does not drop anything into my
notification area. I expect that behavior on Windows, but not on Linux.
If you want to run a command that causes any of those types of
behaviors, you need to get explicit consent from the user *before* you
do it and it needs to be optional.

Please fix this in your next upload.

Bug#623626: hplip: complains that networked Officejet 4500 is not connected

2011-04-21 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: hplip
Version: 3.11.1-3
Severity: normal
File: /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp

I have an Officejet 4500 that is networked via an Ethernet cable. Until
recently, it worked just fine. Now I get complaints that it is probably
not connected (which is false) and nothing prints. The printer works
fine from a Windows machine on the network using the software from the
CD included with the printer, so I'm certain that it is, in fact,
connected and functioning.

I did get it working once by downgrading hplip and ghostscript and
rebooting, but it took all three. I'm going to see if simply rebooting
solves the problem or not.

CUPS claims:

  printer Officejet-4500 disabled since Thu 21 Apr 2011 10:17:10 PM UTC -
/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed

I've attached the most recent /var/log/cups/error_log, compressed with
gzip. If you have any questions or need any testing, please let me
know. If the bug is in some other package, feel free to reassign
(possibly with an affects notation).

2011-04-21 Thread Daniel E. Markle
Version 4.0.3a was found to cause font issues with some configurations;
version 4.2.0 is being prepared for release upstream which fixes this
issue as well as integrating the libwebkit changes needed for the package
to work on modern distributions.

These are expected to be released and the Debian package submitted for
sponsorship soon. If you would like to test or sponsor these changes,
contact me directly and I'll send a link.

The package sun-java6-bin_6.24-1_amd64.deb ships the following file
(comments removed):

-server KNOWN
-client IGNORE
-hotspot ERROR
-classic WARN
-native ERROR
-green ERROR

That means you have some local modifications and this is probably not
a bug in the package.

Ok, It sounds reasonable. I'll try to update it this week-end, but feel
free to NMU it if it's an emergency.

For now, only new API was added, but as they declared the API not
stable, we can't be sure what is going to change. To be safe, I prefer
to assume that the API can change, that's why it should stay in
experimental until 1.2.0 is released.

Bug#604680: Reassigning 604680 & friends

affects 604680 libvte9
affects 604680 libvte-2.90-9

Since all the affected systems use Intel GPUs and I'm starting to see
these types of corruptions in the gnome-terminal from GNOME 3 and in
GNOME 3 in general, I'm reassigning to xserver-xorg-video-intel. If the
maintainers think the bug is in libcairo2, they can feel free to
reassign it there.

Bug#623624: emacs23.3: RMAIL doesn't recognise MIME messages

2011-04-21 Thread Jeroen Nijhof
Package: emacs23
Version: 23.3+1-1
Severity: normal

With emacs23.3, and rmail-enable-mime set to t, RMAIL does not seem to
recognise MIME messages: when pressing 'v', for rmail-mime,
it responds with "Not a MIME message". Tracing rmail-mime shows that
(get-text-property(1 rmail-mime-entity)) returns nil.

With rmail-enable-mime set to nil rmail-mime does decode the MIME
message, to a separate buffer (and allows saving attachments),
as in v23.2.

I don't have the package dpkg-dev installed on this system, it's inside

people could move dpkg-architecture in the package dpkg.

Bye, Jörg.

Bug#623621: win32-loader: please support building with mingw-w64

2011-04-21 Thread Stephen Kitt
Package: win32-loader
Version: 0.7.0
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

mingw-w64, which is intended to eventually replace mingw32 and the
assorted packages, is now available in Debian along with new builds of
binutils and gcc. The attached patch allows win32-loader to build using
mingw-w64 rather than mingw32. Note that it requires nsis to support
mingw-w64 as well (#620099); I'll tag this bug appropriately.

Regards,

Stephen

Bug#620099: nsis: diff for NMU version 2.46-3.1

2011-04-21 Thread Thomas Gaugler
Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the patch. I am unsure if I could completely drop support
for mingw32 as your patch suggests.
The win32-loader package uses mingw32 as a compiller and requires the
NSIS plugin api header and
library files for mingw32.

Best regards,
Thomas

Bug#623620: ITP: libutf8-all-perl -- Perl pragma to turn on UTF-8 everywhere

2011-04-21 Thread gregor herrmann

  Version : 0.002
  Upstream Author : Mike Doherty
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/utf8-all/
* License : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Perl pragma to turn on UTF-8 everywhere

The utf8 pragma allows you to write Perl source code encoded in UTF-8. That
means UTF-8 strings, variable names, and regular expressions. utf8::all goes
further, and makes @ARGV encoded in UTF-8, and filehandles are opened with
UTF-8 encoding turned on by default (including STDIN, STDOUT, STDERR). If you
don't want UTF-8 for a particular filehandle, you'll have to set binmode
$filehandle.

I've done that. We're approaching a 4.3.12 release. If that happens by
the beginning of next week I won't bother backporting the patch to the
current 4.3.11 package. If .12 takes longer, I'll bite the bullet.

Bug#623619: liferea: constant wasteful disk accesses kill system performance

2011-04-21 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: liferea
Version: 1.6.5-1
Severity: important

I have a laptop with a 5400 RPM disk, an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz
processor, and 3GB of RAM. This machine runs very well normally.
However, when I upgrade this system with liferea running, the load
average spikes to in excess of 7. When I kill liferea, the load average
drops within seconds to below 4 and within a few more to far below that.

By using htop, I can see that liferea constantly makes numerous very
small IO requests. This is wasteful because it inhibits the ability of
other, much more important processes to use the disk and it makes it
difficult for the kernel to efficiently optimize disk accesses. It also
prevents the disk from ever spinning down and causes the CPU to be used
more often than it should, both of which needlessly waste power.

I expect liferea to use modern, sane disk access patterns that do not
constantly drag down the performance of the rest of the system,
including batching disk reads and writes to maximize performance. If
liferea cannot do this, for some very, very good reason, it should
probably use mmap so that all the data can be faulted in at once (which
should not be at startup; see #502307 and [0]) to avoid this barrage of
tiny disk accesses.

This bug is filed as important because of the impact on other processes
and power management. I personally do not feel it should be part of any
further stable releases in this condition, but I am not the maintainer.

[0] In the past, liferea has caused such problems at startup that when
it is loaded as part of the GNOME session, it causes the panels not to
appear as a result of it exacerbating some (unknown) race condition.
