Bug#602028: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the fts package
Dear maintainer of fts and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the fts Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es fr it ja pt pt_BR ru sk sv vi zh_CN Among these, the following translations are incomplete: If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the fts package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, April 30, 2011. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Sunday, April 17, 2011 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Friday, April 22, 2011 : send this notice Saturday, April 30, 2011 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Sunday, May 01, 2011 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Sunday, May 08, 2011 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR , YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid "" msgstr "" "Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n" "Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: f...@packages.debian.org\n" "POT-Creation-Date: 2010-01-28 10:20+0100\n" "PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n" "Last-Translator: FULL NAME \n" "Language-Team: LANGUAGE \n" "MIME-Version: 1.0\n" "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n" "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n" #. Bug#618790: AST-2011-003: Resource exhaustion in Asterisk Manager Interface
retitlle 618790 asterisk: AST-2011-005: File Descriptor Resource Exhaustion through TCP thanks As you may have noticed, this issue was not yet fixed. Here's a quick update: On Fri, Mar 18, 2011 at 02:14:20PM +, Tzafrir Cohen wrote: > Package: asterisk > Version: 1:1.6.2.9-2+squeeze2 > Justification: AST-2011-003: Resource exhaustion in Asterisk Manager Interface > Severity: serious > Tags: security patch upstream > > Rapidly opening manager connections, sending invalid data, and closing the > connection can cause Asterisk to exhaust available CPU and memory resources. Looking further into the issue, I realised that the fix they put there (break the connection in case of a failed write) does not help a bit. The real issue is that you can just open a connection, wait as long as you want, and consume a file descriptor from Asterisk in the process. I approached Digium with this. They took my initial fix, improved it and started testing it. Only to realise that this also applies to other TCP services. Which meant more patching and more testing. While they were at it, they realised that the test in the Asterisk code for the "system" privs in the manager interface is missing altogether in 1.4 and misses an important case in later versions. If you'll look at the patch in it for Squeeze you'll see that Debian was missing one other case that was already fixed upstream of some revered logic. -- Tzafrir Cohen icq#16849755 jabber:tzafrir.co...@xorcom.com +972-50-7952406 mailto:tzafrir.co...@xorcom.com http://www.xorcom.com iax:gu...@local.xorcom.com/tzafrir -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#623657: sun-java6: is the libxp6 build-dependency necessary?
Package: sun-java6 Version: 6.24-1 Severity: wishlist The xprint package is obsolete and scheduled for removal. A related library is libxp, which provides an API that enables client programs to access and use an Xprint server. Since we're getting rid of xprint, one could argue it makes sense to get rid of libxp as well. Your package build-depends on libxp6. This situation sometimes arises historically from the time before xprint was considered obsolete, with Build-depends: libxp-dev being set in the past and then forgotten and untouched. In your case it's a bit more odd since you have a build-depends on the binary library libxp6 rather than the development library libxp-dev. This bug has been filed to prompt you to check if you really need Xprint (libxp) support in your package. You have lesstif2 and lesstif-bin depending on libxp6 and lesstif2-dev depending on libxp-dev. We'll leave libxp in the archives for the time being until you and the other packages using it have determined whether you want to keep the dependency. Bug#623656: ITP: xml_marshaller -- Converting Python objects to XML and back again
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Arnaud Fontaine * Package name: xml_marshaller Version : 0.9.7 Upstream Author : Nicolas Delaby * URL : http://www.python.org/community/sigs/current/xml-sig/ * License : Python License (CNRI Python License) Programming Lang: Python Description : Converting Python objects to XML and back again Marshals simple Python data types into a custom XML format. The Marshaller and Unmarshaller classes can be subclassed in order to implement marshalling into a different XML DTD. It is fully compatible with PyXML implementation and enable namespace support for XML Input/Output. This package is required for package slapos.slap, which I will maintain as part of my work. Bug#505254: www.debian.org: Ability to sort RFP/ITP pages by age
Hi, Le lundi 10 novembre 2008 23:21:22, vous avez écrit : > It would be nice to have the ability to sort the WNPP sub-pages by age. > Possibly even additionally the "age since initiation" and "age since > last activty". We're talking about the http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/being_packaged page (and similar ones). I'm willing to try and implement such feature, but would like some help for the wording. Currently, we have: - , in preparation since today. - , in preparation since yesterday. - , %s days in preparation. I'd propose something like: - , %s days in preparation, last activity today. - , %s days in preparation, last activity yesterday. - , %s days in preparation, last activity %s days ago. Or eventually, if a rewording of the first part is really needed: - <...>, preparation started %s days ago, last activity today. - <...>, preparation started %s days ago, last activity yesterday. - <...>, preparation started %s days ago, last activity %s days ago. Also, for the index, I hope the following would be fine: - %s packages being worked on, by age - %s packages being worked on, by last activity Even if it's short, I'm pretty sure I may propose ugly cheesy English as usual, so I'd welcome some proofread; better wording highly welcome. Regards David P.-S.: Not sure someone already wrote it, but I'm not the only one who agree with the following: Justin your help on the DPN (among other stuff) is really welcome, thanks a lot for being usually responsive on such a short notice. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#482092: Ping
So, back in 2009 this bug was opened and it seems to have been stalled, partly because people thought that XTS was not mainstream enough, but its 2011 now and a lot of people use it. I agree with the "don't hide things from the user and don't double the key without telling them" sentiments that are raised, but howdy, can we get some resolution on this and get them in please? Its really annoying to have to drop to a shell in d-i and wget some modules, and get them loaded and then modify partmancrypto's available options on every machine, when it could just be built in. danke, micah -- pgpFonVvn3fdG.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#623165: Updated graphviz to fix FTBFS caused by python 2.7
Hi Christoph, Hope you're having a happy Easter (you too Seb). I've just pushed some changes to the git repo to fix the recent FTBFS which was caused by the introduction of python 2.7 to the archive. I've thrown in a couple of other things including a patch for Hurd which was submitted - just so you know I have no way to test this so I'm just taking a flyer on it. Could you please take a look and (assuming it looks OK) upload it for me? Cheers, David. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#623634: libnet-rawip-perl: miscalculates header checksums
Package: libnet-rawip-perl Version: 0.25-1 Severity: important Hi, It seems Net::RawIP, if you run a script using it long enough (as in millions of generated UDP packets), eventually generates bogus UDP checksums in the packets it's sending out (tcpdump freaks out, the end hosts start ignoring them). I took a look at the source, and it seems the following fragment from RawIP.xs in the udp_pkt_creat() function is the culprit: memcpy(ptr,(u_char*)&piu,20); memcpy(ptr+20,SvPV(ip_opts,PL_na),SvCUR(ip_opts)); memcpy(ptr+20+SvCUR(ip_opts),(u_char*)&piu + 20,8); ((struct iphdr*)ptr)->check = in_cksum((unsigned short *)ptr, iplen); RETVAL = newSVpv((char*)ptr, sizeof(IUPKT)+SvCUR(ip_opts)); You can't use cast-as-lvalue like this; it is an aliasing violation, and with newer gcc seemingly something wrong happens here. The easiest way to fix this is usually by using memcpy (which has specific exceptions in POSIX from the aliasing rules), like this: unsigned short cksum; [...] cksum = in_cksum((unsigned short *)ptr, iplen); memcpy(&((struct iphdr*)ptr)->check, &cksum, sizeof(cksum)); Adding this fragment seems to have fixed the issue for us; at least it's running stable for a day or so. Granted, we also run with noopt nostrip, so it _could_ be something else, but it really sticks out as a sore thumb. FWIW, there are similar fragments many other places in the code, so you should probably fix all of them. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37.3 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_DK.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_DK.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I plan to provide those pages by “age since initiation” and “age since last activity” as requested in #505254. Would these two mentions in the list address this issue? It won't exactly provide the number of day of work, as Gerfried said, it would require a fair amount of trick, and the more I think about it, the more I can think of corner cases anyway. Bug#605030: linux-2.6: bluetooth adapter ar3011
If that device is actually a 0cf3:3000 that was changed to 0cf3:3002 by firmware loading in the Windows driver, I think this problem is solved in Debian by using linux kernel 2.6.38 and firmware-atheros package (>=0.28). Bug#618900: xserver-xorg-video-mga: does not work with MGA G100 chip
I have gone through the logs. The detected max dotclock of the monitor (from EDID) has changed from 90 to 95 MHz. The default mode has changed from 1280x768@80.1Hz to 1360x768@84.8Hz. Does it help to change resolution, for instance by blind-typing "xrandr -s 800x600" ? Can you please also provide the output from "xrandr --verbose" in both cases? Either by blind-typing, or starting X like this: xinit -e 'sh -c "xrandr --verbose > xrandr.log" ' Also, with only 6MB of video RAM, you may want to reduce the color depth. Try starting X with: xinit -- -depth 16 and you might get more available resolutions. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#623627: hplip: bug script starts /usr/share/hplip/systray.py
Package: hplip Version: 3.11.1-3 Severity: important File: /usr/share/bug/hplip/script When reporting a bug, the bug script causes /usr/share/hplip/systray.py to be started. This is not acceptable. I expect that a bug script does not start or stop any sort of service and does not drop anything into my notification area. I expect that behavior on Windows, but not on Linux. If you want to run a command that causes any of those types of behaviors, you need to get explicit consent from the user *before* you do it and it needs to be optional. Bug#623626: hplip: complains that networked Officejet 4500 is not connected
Package: hplip Version: 3.11.1-3 Severity: normal File: /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp I have an Officejet 4500 that is networked via an Ethernet cable. Until recently, it worked just fine. Now I get complaints that it is probably not connected (which is false) and nothing prints. The printer works fine from a Windows machine on the network using the software from the CD included with the printer, so I'm certain that it is, in fact, connected and functioning. I did get it working once by downgrading hplip and ghostscript and rebooting, but it took all three. I'm going to see if simply rebooting solves the problem or not. CUPS claims: printer Officejet-4500 disabled since Thu 21 Apr 2011 10:17:10 PM UTC - /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed I've attached the most recent /var/log/cups/error_log, compressed with gzip. If you have any questions or need any testing, please let me know. If the bug is in some other package, feel free to reassign (possibly with an affects notation). -- Package-specific info: HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.11.1) Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.3 Copyright (c) 2001-9 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Bug#622924: xtrkcad: Please update the package to the latest upstream version
Version 4.0.3a was found to cause font issues with some configurations; version 4.2.0 is being prepared for release upstream which fixes this issue as well as integrating the libwebkit changes needed for the package to work on modern distributions. These are expected to be released and the Debian package submitted for sponsorship soon. For now, only new API was added, but as they declared the API not stable, we can't be sure what is going to change. To be safe, I prefer to assume that the API can change, that's why it should stay in experimental until 1.2.0 is released. Package: emacs23 Version: 23.3+1-1 Severity: normal With emacs23.3, and rmail-enable-mime set to t, RMAIL does not seem to recognise MIME messages: when pressing 'v', for rmail-mime, it responds with "Not a MIME message". Package: wnpp Owner: gregor herrmann Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org,debian-p...@lists.debian.org * Package name: libutf8-all-perl Version : 0.002 Upstream Author : Mike Doherty * URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/utf8-all/ * License : Artistic or GPL-1+ Programming Lang: Perl Description : Perl pragma to turn on UTF-8 everywhere The utf8 pragma allows you to write Perl source code encoded in UTF-8. That means UTF-8 strings, variable names, and regular expressions. utf8::all goes further, and makes @ARGV encoded in UTF-8, and filehandles are opened with UTF-8 encoding turned on by default (including STDIN, STDOUT, STDERR). If you don't want UTF-8 for a particular filehandle, you'll have to set binmode $filehandle. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#623522: screen tab completion should allow /dev/ devices
Frank Terbeck wrote: > Joey Hess wrote: >> Screen supports being run like: screen /dev/ttyUSB0 [baud], so it would >> be nice if zsh would not block tab completion in /dev. > > Agreed. I'll be committing the following upstream in a minute (or > five): I've done that. We're approaching a 4.3.12 release. If that happens by the beginning of next week I won't bother backporting the patch to the current 4.3.11 package. If .12 takes longer, I'll bite the bullet. Bug#623619: liferea: constant wasteful disk accesses kill system performance
Package: liferea Version: 1.6.5-1 Severity: important I have a laptop with a 5400 RPM disk, an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz processor, and 3GB of RAM. This machine runs very well normally. However, when I upgrade this system with liferea running, the load average spikes to in excess of 7. When I kill liferea, the load average drops within seconds to below 4 and within a few more to far below that. By using htop, I can see that liferea constantly makes numerous very small IO requests. This is wasteful because it inhibits the ability of other, much more important processes to use the disk and it makes it difficult for the kernel to efficiently optimize disk accesses. It also prevents the disk from ever spinning down and causes the CPU to be used more often than it should, both of which needlessly waste power. I expect liferea to use modern, sane disk access patterns that do not constantly drag down the performance of the rest of the system, including batching disk reads and writes to maximize performance. If liferea cannot do this, for some very, very good reason, it should probably use mmap so that all the data can be faulted in at once (which should not be at startup; see #502307 and [0]) to avoid this barrage of tiny disk accesses. This bug is filed as important because of the impact on other processes and power management. I personally do not feel it should be part of any further stable releases in this condition, but I am not the maintainer. [0] In the past, liferea has caused such problems at startup that when it is loaded as part of the GNOME session, it causes the panels not to appear as a result of it exacerbating some (unknown) race condition. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages liferea depends on: ii gconf2 2.32.1-2GNOME configuration database syste ii libatk1.0-0 2.0.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.11.2-13 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo21.10.2-6The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.4.8-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.92-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgconf2-4 2.32.1-2GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.4-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.6-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.4-3The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 2:1.0.7-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liblua5.1-0 5.1.4-5 Simple, extensible, embeddable pro ii libnm-glib2 0.8.3.999-1 network management framework (GLib ii libnotify1 [libnotify1-g 0.5.0-2 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libpango1.0-01.28.3-6Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsm6 2:1.2.0-1 X11 Session Management library ii libsoup2.4-1 2.34.0-1HTTP library implementation in C - ii libsqlite3-0 3.7.5-1 SQLite 3 shared library ii libwebkit-1.0-2 1.2.7-2 Web content engine library for Gtk ii libx11-6 2:1.4.3-1 X11 client-side library ii libxml2 2.7.8.dfsg-2+b1 GNOME XML library ii libxslt1.1 1.1.26-7+b1 XSLT 1.0 processing library - runt ii liferea-data 1.6.5-1 architecture independent data for Versions of packages liferea recommends: ii curl 7.21.4-2 Get a file from an HTTP, HTTPS or ii dbus 1.4.8-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii dbus-x11 1.4.8-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii wget 1.12-3 retrieves files from the web Versions of packages liferea suggests: ii network-manager 0.8.998-1 network management framework daemo -- no debconf information -- brian m. carlson / brian with sandals: Houston, Texas, US +1 832 623 2791 | http://www.crustytoothpaste.net/~bmc | My opinion only OpenPGP: RSA v4 4096b: 88AC E9B2 9196 305B A994 7552 F1BA 225C 0223 B187 signature.asc Description: Digital signature
