Bug#634640: xfce4-power-manager: xfce4-utils recommends xscreensaver which makes it the default
Package: xfce4-power-manager Version: 1.0.10-4 Followup-For: Bug #634640 Thank you for pointing me to xflock4. Unfortunately because xfce4-utils depends on xscreensaver | xlockmore | xlockmore-gl, the default for the power manager is to use xscreensaver, unless xlockmore or xlockmore-gl are chosen (which isn't much better). Either the recommends should include the various 'simple' screen lockers, preferably with higher priority so that the semi-broken xscreensaver + power manager isn't the default state. I know people want screensavers, but IMNHO shipping a broken config (which probably will be the case unless xscreensaver is modified to play nice with power manager, or xfce4-screensaver or something like gnome-screensaver is written) is worse than not having pretty graphics that actually do the opposite of what they're called (screensaver). If you disagree, that's fine, but please at least add more screen lockers to the recommends. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'testing'), (100, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.39-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages xfce4-power-manager depends on: ii libc62.13-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo21.10.2-6The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.4.12-4simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.94-4 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.23.5-1GDK Pixbuf library ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.6-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.4-3The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libnotify1 [libnotify1-gtk2. 0.5.0-2 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libx11-6 2:1.4.3-2 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 2:1.3.0-3 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfce4ui-1-0 4.8.0-2 widget library for Xfce ii libxfce4util44.8.1-3 Utility functions library for Xfce ii libxfconf-0-24.8.0-3 Client library for Xfce4 configure ii libxrandr2 2:1.3.2-2 X11 RandR extension library ii upower 0.9.12-1+b1 abstraction for power management ii xfce4-power-manager-data 1.0.10-4power manager for Xfce desktop, ar Versions of packages xfce4-power-manager recommends: ii consolekit0.4.5-1framework for defining and trackin Versions of packages xfce4-power-manager suggests: ii udisks1.0.3-1storage media interface ii xfce4-power-manager-plugins 1.0.10-4 power manager plugins for Xfce pan -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#475727: Gmail and chats (was: Re: One way to reproduce this)
Hi. I am just adding some information, as I was perusing the offlineimap mailing list and found a reference to this e-mail of mine. On Sep 09 2010, Rogério Brito wrote: I think that I found one way to reproduce this in a way that would serve for debugging purposes: With a gmail account, if you are trying to upload to the gmail servers an e-mail that is a chat of theirs, then they will refuse the upload (tested also with mutt and icedove). The most informative message of the programs is displayed by mutt. Icedove informs that the server didn't like something, and offlineimap just bombs with a stack trace, instead of having better error handling. For the record, one of the things that I've seen that sets a gmail chat apart from others is some kind of marking with the headers: X-Google-Chat-Start: timestamp X-Google-Chat-End: timestamp X-Google-Chat-With: gmail account name Once I removed those from an offending message, I could reupload the messages to gmail. Perhaps for users that know what they are doing we could have a dangerous option to the repository settings like: mangle_my_gmail_chat_logs = I know what I am doing This is an admitted kludge, but a middle ground workaround for a non-standard IMAP system that is gmail in the first place... Bug#634821: libgcc1: filename change breaks old gcc
Package: libgcc1 Version: 4.6.0-12 Severity: important Justification: breaks related software X-Debbugs-Cc: Andrew Chittenden an...@bluearc.com Hi, As Andy noticed[*], moving libgcc_s.so.1 from /lib to /lib/$arch breaks versions of gcc from before that move. $ echo 'int main(void) { return 0; }' | gcc-4.3 -x c - /usr/bin/ld: error: cannot open /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.5/libgcc_s.so: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: error: cannot open /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.5/libgcc_s.so: No such file or directory collect2: ld returned 1 exit status The cause: such gcc versions include a symlink with the path to libgcc hardcoded. $ readlink /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.5/libgcc_s.so /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (The same considerations apply to libgomp.so.1, though that might be less noticeable.) Questions: 1. Is there any GCC command-line option that people can use to work around this kind of thing (e.g., to add a directory to the front of the search order)? 2. Would it make sense to introduce a new package libgcc1-multiarch and make libgcc1 into a compatibility package that ships a symlink /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 - /lib/$arch/libgcc_s.so.1 for the sake of smooth partial upgrades? 3. Bug#634640: xfce4-power-manager: please disregard previous
Package: xfce4-power-manager Version: 1.0.10-4 Followup-For: Bug #634640 Ok, apparently I'm talking in my sleep or something. I discovered that power manager doesn't lock the screen (except for, if select, after hibernate and suspend. That means the only alternative to the screensavers is xtralock combined with a screen locker like i3lock or slock. For a wishlist item I would suggest that xfce4-power-manager have the ability to lock the screen when it blanks it, e.g. using i3lock, or xtrlock, or slock, so that there is an alternative to the screensavers. Another possibility (depending on dependencies, what's pulled in as a result) would be to use gnome-screensaver rather than xscreensaver as the default (it at least doesn't have bogus DPMS). -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'testing'), (100, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.39-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages xfce4-power-manager depends on: ii libc62.13-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcairo21.10.2-6The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.4.12-4simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.94-4 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.23.5-1GDK Pixbuf library ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.6-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.4-3The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libnotify1 [libnotify1-gtk2. 0.5.0-2 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libx11-6 2:1.4.3-2 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 2:1.3.0-3 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfce4ui-1-0 4.8.0-2 widget library for Xfce ii libxfce4util44.8.1-3 Utility functions library for Xfce ii libxfconf-0-24.8.0-3 Client library for Xfce4 configure ii libxrandr2 2:1.3.2-2 X11 RandR extension library ii upower 0.9.12-1+b1 abstraction for power management ii xfce4-power-manager-data 1.0.10-4power manager for Xfce desktop, ar Versions of packages xfce4-power-manager recommends: ii consolekit0.4.5-1framework for defining and trackin Versions of packages xfce4-power-manager suggests: ii udisks1.0.3-1storage media interface ii xfce4-power-manager-plugins 1.0.10-4 power manager plugins for Xfce pan -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#634795: auto-multiple-choice: FTBFS: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lcv
Dear Nobuhiro Iwamatsu, I could not create an experimental chroot with pbuilder to test a complete build of auto-multiple-choice in that environment. I installed cv2.3, which can be done without uninstalling cv2.1, and built the patched version of auto-multiple-choice in my current environment, which is not the same as an experimental chroot. I uploaded the package to experimental. If you can share with me a recipe to create an experimental chroot with pbuilder, please do it. Also, send me a reminder when cv2.3 will enter unstable, so I can do the same with auto-multiple-choice. By the way, which is the roadmap for cv2.3? I am developing another package which depends on it, by python bindings (pymecavideo): are python bindings already mature for cv2.3? Best regards, Georges. You're mistaken. If you want something that automatically locks the screen after a while, you want a screensaver (even in blank mode only). For now, I'll add an unconditional break on gcc-4.1 and gcc-4.3 in libgcc1, which should make people aware of the breakage. Good idea. By the way, Andy, could you give a quick reminder of what you are using gcc 4.2 and 4.3 to do? If we are lucky, there's another way to do it; and if not, it would help in providing motivation for keeping them installable, as in Matthias's example below: Maybe it would be better to backport the multiarch patches to gcc-4.3; while removed in unstable now, the GPC frontend was updated to build for 4.3 instead of 4.1, so a multiarch enabled gcc-4.3 in unstable would make sense. Presumably, on Peter's system, messagebus was either created while LAST_SYSTEM_UID was higher, or possibly before 2003 when dbus created messagebus as a non-system group (#222563 - which was undeniably itself a bug, but we should do what we can to recover from historical bugs). But checking the microphone by executing arecord -D plughw:1,0 -vv RecTest.wav and then playing the record shew that it worked fine. The sound was good and everything was fine with the speech speed. Actually I can't understand why the mic doesn't work in skype but works great in all the other programs (I used audacity and the above arecord line for testing) when I'm using alsa only? And why it makes just noise (speech with very fast speed) everywhere when I'm using pulse? Bug#562887: PATCH: fix qemu-mips[el]-static to work with debian squeeze/sid chroot
tags 562887 pending thanks sending to the right bug report this time... On Tue, Jul 05, 2011 at 12:08:23PM +0200, Wesley W. Terpstra wrote: I also recently tried to get a mipsel debian/sid chroot running under my amd64/ squeeze system. As posted by Lisandro earlier this month, it didn't work. ;-) There are several problems, the most glaring of which the attached patch fixes. I'll break down the changes: 1. Return -TARGET_ENOSYS instead of -ENOSYS from linux-user/main.c * Caused the strange 'Level 2 synchronization messages' instead of correctly reporting the syscall was missing. * Made glibc simply fail instead of using older syscalls (one important example is the new setrlimit syscall which qemu lacks and gnupg/apt needs) 2. The mips syscall table wasn't kept in-sync with syscall.c * utimensat was missing (and the cause of the ENOSYS error Lisandro was seeing) * Although I didn't run into problems with any other syscalls, I updated the table to match syscall.c as well I could anyway 3. Dereferencing a null pointer causes an exception 0xC (EXCP_AdEL) instead of EXCP_TLBL. This should also trigger a segfault. 4. The codes for get/setrlimit do not stay constant between linux target platforms. I added a conversion method. This is important else programs (rsyslog, python, ...) can go into a near infinite loop trying to close all the file descriptors from 0 to -1. 5. 64-bit file system calls were failing on mipsel (ftruncate 888 created files 888*4GB large). arm had already work-around code for EABI which also worked for mipsel, so I just added the same code path for mips everywhere arm eabi has it. Works for both little and big endian. committed your patch to git, and will upload soon. live well, vagrant -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. The attached patch needs updating for mips, mipsel and kfreebsd-amd64. * Add an empty directory /usr/lib/multiarch in the biarch -dev packages, needed by GCC to resolve names relative to this path. === modified file 'debian/sysdeps/amd64.mk' --- debian/sysdeps/amd64.mk 2011-06-02 18:13:24 + +++ debian/sysdeps/amd64.mk 2011-07-20 13:09:58 + @@ -47,6 +47,7 @@ cp -af debian/tmp-i386/usr/include/i486-linux-gnu/sys/vm86.h \ debian/libc6-dev-i386/usr/include/sys mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-i386/usr/include/i486-linux-gnu +mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu endef define libc6-i386_extra_pkg_install === modified file 'debian/sysdeps/i386.mk' --- debian/sysdeps/i386.mk 2011-03-09 01:00:53 + +++ debian/sysdeps/i386.mk 2011-07-20 13:10:55 + @@ -58,5 +58,6 @@ cp -af debian/tmp-amd64/usr/include/gnu/stubs-64.h \ debian/libc6-dev-amd64/usr/include/gnu mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-amd64/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu +mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu endef === modified file 'debian/sysdeps/powerpc.mk' --- debian/sysdeps/powerpc.mk 2011-03-09 01:00:53 + +++ debian/sysdeps/powerpc.mk 2011-07-20 13:12:54 + @@ -19,5 +19,6 @@ cp -af debian/tmp-ppc64/usr/include/powerpc64-linux-gnu/gnu/stubs-64.h \ debian/libc6-dev-ppc64/usr/include/gnu mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-ppc64/usr/include/powerpc64-linux-gnu +mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-ppc64/usr/lib/powerpc64-linux-gnu endef === modified file 'debian/sysdeps/ppc64.mk' --- debian/sysdeps/ppc64.mk 2011-03-09 01:00:53 + +++ debian/sysdeps/ppc64.mk 2011-07-20 13:13:28 + @@ -27,6 +27,7 @@ cp -af debian/tmp-powerpc/usr/include/powerpc-linux-gnu/gnu/stubs-32.h \ debian/libc6-dev-powerpc/usr/include/gnu mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-powerpc/usr/include/powerpc-linux-gnu +mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-powerpc/usr/lib/powerpc-linux-gnu endef # create a symlink for the 32 bit dynamic linker in /lib === modified file 'debian/sysdeps/s390.mk' --- debian/sysdeps/s390.mk 2011-03-09 01:00:53 + +++ debian/sysdeps/s390.mk 2011-07-20 13:15:18 + @@ -17,6 +17,7 @@ cp -af debian/tmp-s390x/usr/include/s390x-linux-gnu/gnu/stubs-64.h \ debian/libc6-dev-s390x/usr/include/gnu mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-s390x/usr/include/s390x-linux-gnu +mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-s390x/usr/lib/s390x-linux-gnu endef define libc6-s390x_extra_pkg_install === modified file 'debian/sysdeps/sparc.mk' --- debian/sysdeps/sparc.mk 2011-06-23 18:13:13 + +++ debian/sysdeps/sparc.mk 2011-07-20 13:14:27 + @@ -19,6 +19,7 @@ cp -af debian/tmp-sparc64/usr/include/sparc64-linux-gnu/gnu/stubs-64.h \ debian/libc6-dev-sparc64/usr/include/gnu mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-sparc64/usr/include/sparc64-linux-gnu +mkdir -p debian/libc6-dev-sparc64/usr/lib/sparc64-linux-gnu endef EGLIBC_PASSES += sparc64b

Bug#620649: depends on nonexisting zeitgeist-datahub
fixed 620649 0.8.1-1 thanks Hi, it seems the BTS can't handle a bug being closed in another package. [1] This bug therefore still prevents migration to testing. [2][3] Since zeitgeist-datahub is now available in unstable[4], I'm marking this as fixed in the latest version of zeitgeist.
