I am under the impression that these applications check for group
permissions, and consider a world-writeable directory unsafe. I have
only looked at strace output, not disassembled code.

I use this application roughly every other week, on a machine
following testing, so I am quite sure the change happend in the
last few weeks.

As said, root:lock ownership with group-write permissions is
probably ok.

Thanks for that hint.

Well, if all developers would follow the FHS, it would be great.

I do not see a realistic chance to have this application changed.

I completely agree. However, this is an application from the
past, and not open source. Nevertheless I have not much choice but
using it.

Even if librxtx is ever fixed, that fixed version needs to make
it into the closed source apps of a commercial vendor. It will
take years.

As said, root:lock would also be ok. Even if you are not moving
away from FHS for policy reasons, just do not make it
unnecessarly hard to run with slight derivations from it.
Besides, I am sure it is not the only pre-FHS application out
there.

thanks

the patch shows regressions. My suggestion for now would be to keep libdb4.8 in

Can you enable logging in /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf and attach the log from a
failure to your reply?

You will find it in /var/log a while after you re-plugged the stick.

Thanks,

Bug#637883: [PATCH] Add multiarch fields

2011-08-15 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi,

Riku Voipio wrote:

> Cool, I'm not sure how late I'll be up tonight, but mail me when ready.

It took longer than I hoped, but I have some packages ready:

 -
http://alioth.debian.org/~jrnieder-guest/xz-utils/xz-utils_5.1.1alpha+20110809-1.dsc
 -
http://alioth.debian.org/~jrnieder-guest/xz-utils/xz-utils_5.1.1alpha+20110809-2~exp1.dsc

Or one can get them from the master (09fe07e) and experimental
(fd4034f) branches of

 git://git.debian.org/collab-maint/xz.git

and build with "debian/autogen.sh && debuild".

For sid, changes since last upload:

 - upload to unstable. This means a lot of upstream changes since
last upload to sid. Luckily they have been well tested in
   experimental.
 - make ABI match unstable (see liblzma2/README.Debian for
details) since it is not time for a transition yet
 - declare multi-arch support for liblzma2, xz-utils, and xzdec
   in debian/control
 - separate build-arch and build-indep targets in debian/rules

For experimental, changes on top of that:

 - make ABI match upstream again (bump soname, etc)
 - declare multi-arch for liblzma-dev, too! Very neat.

Both packages seem to work. :) I'll be happy for any thoughts you
have.

Good night,
Jonathan

I have a deb-src line in /etc/apt/sources.list and the modification
timestamp of the file says it has not changed since 12 May,
i.e. before the initial bug report. I might have forgotten to run
"apt-get update" after adding that line in the past, but I would find
that unlikely; that line probably has been there for (much) longer
than my last upgrade. Maybe it had failed to download for some reason
at my last update.

I had retitled the bug in that direction: an "apt-get update" fixed my
issue, so the only remaining issue is the confusing message.

Confirmed this is also a problem in 4.1 when compiled with FreeBSD.

Narrowed down the issue.  The corrupted pcap is generated if ntop is launched
with the -d flag.  Was able to launch without -d with flags to run as a
webserver with -l from startup script but added '&' to put the process in the
background.  When doing this, it produces usable pcaps (at least in FreeBSD
8.1)

Bug#637820: I can adopt this package

2011-08-15 Thread Jean-Philippe MENGUAL
Hi,

I will try to adopt this package, as well as festival (so I'll try
closing bug 601596 too). Of course I'll have to see the TODO, see if
there's update to do, where finding new upstream source. Finally, as
I've to use sponsoring process, it could take some time. But I will try
handling these 2 bugs.

Bug#637968: Please transition cyrus-sasl2 for multiarch

2011-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: cyrus-sasl2
Version: 2.1.24~rc1.dfsg1+cvs2011-05-23-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu oneiric ubuntu-patch

Hi guys,

Please find attached a patch to cyrus-sasl2 to transition it to use of the
multiarch library paths as described at
. This patch has been
tested and included in Ubuntu Oneiric.

As a dependency of libldap-2.4-2, libsas2-2 is part of the stack packaged in
ia32-libs. Converting cyrus-sasl2 for multiarch use, and thus facilitating
the direct installation of i386 packages on amd64 systems, will be a great
step forward in the release goal of getting rid of ia32-libs for wheezy. So
please consider including this patch in Debian sooner rather than later.

Note that this patch includes backwards-compatibility with the
/usr/lib/sasl2 module path in case of out-of-tree modules on the system, but
that /usr/lib/$arch/sasl2 is now the preferred path. I've tested here to
confirm that libsasl2-2 will still load modules from both directories.

Thanks,

Bug#637967: please mark ttf-dejavu* Multi-Arch: foreign

Package: ttf-dejavu

Hi folks,

I've just pushed a patch to the ttf-dejavu package in Ubuntu to mark the
binary packages Multi-Arch: foreign, in compliance with the plan for
multiarch described at . Since
some common 32-bit-only applications such as google earth have a dependency
on ttf-dejavu, having the fonts marked Multi-Arch: foreign will facilitate
being able to install those 32-bit packages directly on amd64 and let us get
rid of ia32-libs sooner for wheezy.

Bug#632923: [26/26] perf tools: do not look at ./config for configuration

2011-08-15 Thread Greg KH
3.0-stable review patch. If anyone has any objections, please let us know.

--

From: Jonathan Nieder

commit aba8d056078e47350d85b06a9cabd5afcc4b72ea upstream.

In addition to /etc/perfconfig and $HOME/.perfconfig, perf looks for
configuration in the file ./config, imitating git which looks at
$GIT_DIR/config. If ./config is not a perf configuration file, it
fails, or worse, treats it as a configuration file and changes behavior
in some unexpected way.

"config" is not an unusual name for a file to be lying around and perf
does not have a private directory dedicated for its own use, so let's
just stop looking for configuration in the cwd. Callers needing
context-sensitive configuration can use the PERF_CONFIG environment
variable.

Bug#637966: RFP: k4dirstat -- graphical disk usage display with cleanup facilities

2011-08-15 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

This is a KDE4 update of kdirstat (now removed from the archive).

* Package name: k4dirstat
  Version : 2.7.0
Upstream Author : Stefan Hundhammer , Joshua Hodosh

* URL :
http://grumpypenguin.org/index.php?/archives/3-KDirStat-coming-to-KDE4.html
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : graphical disk usage display with cleanup facilities

KDirStat (KDE Directory Statistics) is a small utility program that sums
up disk usage for directory trees, very much like the Unix 'du' command.
It displays the disk space used up by a directory tree, both numerically
and graphically. It is network transparent (i.e., you can use it to sum
up FTP servers), and comes with predefined and user configurable cleanup
actions. You can directly open a directory branch in Konqueror or the
shell of your choice, compress it to a .tar.bz2 archive, or define your
 own cleanup actions.

No problem. This was actually an ICU bug. The Debian ICU packaging
doesn't seem to include an upstream changelog, so I haven't been able
to check quickly if it's fixed.

The Chromium packaging is temporarily using the bundled copy of ICU to
get a security fix, so the version last uploaded is known not to have
the bug. When I get a moment, I'll try building locally against
system ICU and see if it happens again (or if someone else tests
version 12 from snapshot.debian.org before then, that would be
useful).

Thanks,
Jonathan

Libsmack is a library collection with development files and tools for

Other packages for use of SMACK are still not in Debian, but also be needed
for use of SMACK: smackutil, smackman, smackpolyport.

All SMACK packages are only available as git repo's created for use for
the Meego platform. That is the reason that I have made static source

So I will start with support of SMACK in Debian with this package.

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/fd1440.img count=2880
# /usr/bin/virt-install -n dummy --pxe --debug -r 192 --arch=i686 --vcpus=1
--os-type=linux --os-variant=debiansqueeze --disk path=/tmp/fd1440.img >/tmp/vm.log
2>&1

image? I leave the bug open for now since the error message is
misleading indeed.
-- Guido

I suggest that libvirtd (or whatever is the offending code) be changed to ask
the filesystem whether the file exists
(stat() and/or access()) and that the error reporting be improved to more
accurately reflect the actual problem.

Thanks for your time.

'allow-hotplug eth0' means that eth0 will be brought up asynchronously
when it is detected.

However, automounting of NFS directories requires that the network
interface is brought up by the 'networking' service. You need to
specify 'auto eth0' instead.

That's not a complete statement; the complete statement is:

case "$FSTYPE" in
  nfs|nfs4|smbfs|cifs|coda|ncp|ncpfs|ocfs2|gfs)
;;
  *)
continue
;;
esac

which means that the following commands will only be run for the listed
filesystem types.

Digging a bit more, the bug was introduced by version 1.28.4-2 of
pango1.0, due to multiarch. Notice the build log:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/build/buildd-pango1.0_1.28.4-2-amd64-Gmqy8X/pango1.0-1.28.4/debian/libpango1.0-udeb/usr/lib:/usr/lib/libfakeroot:/usr/lib64/libfakeroot:/usr/lib32/libfakeroot
 \
PANGO_QUERYMODULES=debian/build/udeb/pango/pango-querymodules \
debian/dh_pangomodules \
-plibpango1.0-udeb -k
dh_pangomodules: couldn't find any Pango Modules for package libpango1.0-udeb.

This error is probably due to the udeb using non-multiarch paths.
No ./usr/lib/pango/1.6.0/module-files.d/libpango1.0-udeb.modules file is
generated, so it has a hard time finding modules to display anything.
e.g. copying the file from the -1 udeb makes things work again.

A way to fix it can probably be to have separate dh_pangomodules and
dh_pangomodules-udeb with the different paths. Or simply use multiarch
paths in the udeb as well.

Samuel

2011-08-15 Thread Ben Hutchings
It's worse then just the package description - the info file and the
customisation menu also state or imply that cwebm is included, leaving
me to waste time wondering what I had to do make the commands available.

Does it really take 2 years to fix this?

Bug#620423: Looking for update

2011-08-15 Thread Shane Chambers
I'm hoping for any update on this bug. From the stack trace I took last
week, we're running into the same problem on multiple servers, crashing
the site multiple times a day during moderately busy periods.

The workaround listed from Kian Mohageri of using "zend.enable_gc=0"
changes the problem from Apache crashing with a Segmentation Fault, to
Apache hanging (with load level of 150/4 and higher), and refusing to
respond to any more requests. 4GB of memory is completely consumed by
Apache at this time. Nothing else is running on this system.

I'm running into this on two different systems, with two different
kernels. 2.6.32-5-686-bigmem, and 2.6.32-5-amd64. I don't have a stack
trace handy for the amd64 kernel, but here's the 686 kernel stack trace
from prior to the workaround listed above;

I received this error when calling e.g. `service restart jetty`:
grep: character class syntax is [[:space:]], not [:space:]

I replaced this line in /etc/init.d/jetty:
CONFIG_LINES=$(cat /etc/jetty/jetty.conf | grep -v "^[:space:]*#" | tr
"\n" " ")

with this one:
CONFIG_LINES=$(cat /etc/jetty/jetty.conf | grep -v "^[[:space:]]*#" | tr

which seemed to resolve the issue.

I've just tried to replicate this bug replacing sendmail with a script
that simply does "exit 1" and that's what I got:

Report will be sent to Sandro Tosi
Submit this report on checkgmail (e to edit) [Y|n|a|c|e|i|l|m|p|q|d|t|s|?]?
Sending message via /usr/sbin/sendmail...
Original write failed, wrote bug report to
/tmp/reportbug-checkgmail-20110816-398-lrFVxO

And that's the result I'd expected looking at the source code. If you
can provide a way I can replicate this, I'll investigate further, else
I'll close this report.

Regards.

Your patch won't apply to future versions of the package as upstream
changes mean that chunks of the packaging need to be redone so I'm
removing the patch tag.

Bug#637572: [Gptfdisk-general] Bug#637572: gdisk: fails to write protective MBR

2011-08-15 Thread Rod Smith

On 08/15/2011 06:55 PM, Arno Schuring wrote:

Hi,

Enclosed are the dumps, They are all created in the same way:

# gdisk /dev/sdX
[..]
Command (? for help): b
Enter backup filename to save: sdX-0.N.gpt

The dumps do not change if I recreate the protective MBR (x-n) before
dumping. And with version 0.7, if I choose 'v' from the main menu, it
immediately gives the "0xEE partition doesn't start on sector 1" error.

I've taken a (cursory) look at the diffs, version 0.7's MBR is always
all-zeroes. I did get to try these disks on i386 as well, and there it
works fine, so it's not disk-related. I guess it's either an
architecture-specific bug or a compiler gotcha.

If there's anything I can do test, please let me know. But the disks
are now in use, so I won't be able to do write-tests. From the results
above, I guess that won't be necessary.

If it works on i386 but not on armel, then it does sound like an
architecture-specific issue. I've been unable to reproduce the problem
on i386, x86-64, or PowerPC systems. My understanding is that Debian's
armel support is little-endian, like the i386 and x86-64 platforms, so
this doesn't seem to be an endianness bug. (My PowerPC tests should have
exposed such a bug, too.) My guess would be a compiler options issue.

Can the computer that exhibits these problems use USB flash drives or
some other "scratch" disk (an old hard disk, say)? If so, doing test
compiles of gdisk with various g++ options and testing on the "scratch"
disk might turn up a set of options that would work. (Search the gcc man
page for "ARM Options" to turn up a list of options.)

Unfortunately, I don't have any ARM hardware myself. I'll look into
setting up a virtual ARM machine using QEMU, but it may be a few days
before I can get to that

Wait a bit for the buildds to kick in for the X stack backports, and let
me a few days to make sure the instructions at [1] are also correct for
i386 (I did prepare those on amd64). Then try that and cross fingers.

could you confirm you don't have a 'deb-src' line in
/etc/apt/sources.list ? --src needs the Sources package list in order
to retrieve package information; if you don't have any deb-src,
Sources lists are not there and reportbug fails (ok, with a confusing
msg, we'll see to fix it).

Can you still replicate this bug? I've just tried logging into my

We'd love to squeeze this into the next Ubuntu release. It has just

Bug#471927: Scratch: Question about the license of the plugins

2011-08-15 Thread John Maloney
Hi, Miriam.

Yes, the plugins are under the MIT open source license, and I believe Squeak is
under an Linux-friendly open source license (can't remember which).

The rest of the Scratch source -- the part written in Smalltalk -- is under the
Scratch license which, as you say, is a barrier to distribution on some
repositories.

Severity: normal

When using bluetooth with a specific dongle that lsusb reports as:

Bus 004 Device 007: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle
(HCI mode)

sometimes there are crashes; crashes I had involved bluetooth, X and system. I
used blueman
and experienced the problem, then switched to bluedevil and the prolem persist
so it's
not an interface problem. Maybe it's a bug related to kernel, but I reported
for bluez.
I can reproduce the bug, if you need other details please ask (if needed I can
also do dump
or trace, just need to know what can be useful).
I think it's all, for now.

Many thanks for doing this.

It's probably due to the removal of the "main log" (as opposed to
"package log") with the removal of "batch mode" in 0.62.4-1. It
may be that the download routine is making use of a variable that
is now undef where it previously wasn't. It should be easily
corrected.

Thanks again,
Roger

Bug#637952: basex should make standard emacs-style error messags

2011-08-15 Thread jidanni
Package: basex

In emacs,
compile is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `compile.el'.

   It is bound to C-x c, .

Compile the program including the current buffer. Default: run `make'.
Runs COMMAND, a shell command, in a separate process asynchronously

Ah, the issue is the "http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/contrib/k/kcemu/";
bit; it's not fetching the source via HTTP. Was this working correctly
with 0.60.0? I was testing with directly downloading with apt, which is
the conventional way of using it, along with using local sources. It
may be that the HTTP downloading is broken. Does it work for you if
you download the source first and then use the local .dsc as the source
to build?

I just checked, and this code hasn't changed since 2009 when Andres
Mejia created it. It's possible some change since then has caused
some breakage, or a change in the perl modules used to do the
HTTP downloading have caused the problem. That will need some
further investigating. I'm afraid I'm a bit busy for the next few
weeks, but I can at least reproduce it now I know what's wrong,
which will make it easier.

If you have the time to look further into what's going wrong, that
would be great, otherwise I'll do it when I have time. Note it's
in Sbuild::Utility::download(), called from
Sbuild::Build::fetch_source_files().

Roger

Thanks for your report. Mario Limonciello posted a patch upstream a
couple of weeks ago; it was to address a related problem rather than
this, but it happens to fix this as well. I've cleaned it up and
committed it upstream, and have backported it for 1.99-12.

Cheers,

It seems as the fix from 0.20.1-1.1 for this issue has been silently dropped.
But that fix still applies and works fine. I've attached the patch.

In view of #637750 please note that test_sslv23_no_v2_no_service and
test_sslv23_weak_crypto will fail because openssl seems to ignore -no_ssl3
silently. But I didn't dig any further.

Kind regards

Bug#637931: results obtained with the perl debugger

2011-08-15 Thread Michael Karcher
Some hints to the reported bug: I ran the perl debugger on Adrian's
machine investigating the issue a bit, but did not do a full
investigation. This is what I came up with:

The download step crashes (i.e. the exec dies) at the point the
"downloading" message is printed to to stdout (Utility.pm:206), because
$stdout is undef at that point. It has been set to undef by the
preparation of the download restoring $stdout from $saved_stdout, the
latter being undefined. A breakpoint to open_log which should initialize
$saved_stdout did not trigger, so open_log was not called.

I did not investigate further why there was no call to open_log.

Regards,
  Michael Karcher

Bug#637950: [josm] josm: unexpected exception when uploading a changeset

2011-08-15 Thread Thomas Kreft
Package: josm
Version: 0.0.svn4064-3
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I just made a rather big OSM changeset with josm. When uploading the
changeset, after entering a description, I encountered an "unexpected
exception" error message along with the recommendation to report this as a bug
with the following information.

josm did not crash and the changeset appears to be uploaded correctly, so I
have no idea whether this report is of any use.

Bug#637947: clive: filename for YouTube video incorrectly formatted

2011-08-15 Thread Ben Finney
Package: clive
Version: 2.2.25-2
Severity: normal

Downloading a video from Vimeo results in a filename formatted as
requested:

=
$ clive 'http://vimeo.com/18074950'
fetch http://vimeo.com/18074950 ...done.
fetch config ...done.
verify video link ...done.
file: Flying to Saturn: Carolyn Porco in LEGO.vimeo[18074950].mp4 88.8M
[video/mp4]
Flying to Saturn: Carolyn Porco 100% 88.8M / 88.8M 502.3K/s 03m01s

$ ls *Porco*
Flying to Saturn: Carolyn Porco in LEGO.vimeo[18074950].mp4
=

But every file downloaded from YouTube using Clive has extraneous
characters in the resulting filename:

=
$ clive 'http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quJSdVtwFkI'
fetch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quJSdVtwFkI ...done.
verify video link ...done.
file: School Chaplains and High Court Challenge: ABC The Drum
-.youtube[quJSdVtwFkI].mp4 8.2M [video/mp4]
School Chaplains and High Court 100% 8.2M / 8.2M 204.3K/s 41s

$ ls *Drum*
School Chaplains and High Court Challenge: ABC The Drum
-.youtube[quJSdVtwFkI].mp4
=

The trailing ‘ -’ is not part of the title, is not requested in the
filename format, and should not be in the filename. The filename should
instead be:

School Chaplains and High Court Challenge: ABC The
Drum.youtube[quJSdVtwFkI].mp4

=
$ cat $HOME/.cliverc | grep -v '^[[:space:]]*\(#\|$\)'
--format best

Bug#637946: strip angle brackets from pasted s

2011-08-15 Thread Craig Sanders
Package: iceweasel
Version: 5.0-6

Many people post links in email as rather than as just plain
URL. It was (and still is) recommended practice to indicate URIs like
thispersonally, i think it's not a good practice (I don't know of
even one browser that accepts URIs typed or pasted in this form) but
you can't break random people on the internet of habits acquired over a
decade or more.

Unfortunately, if you double- or triple- click the URL to select it
and then middle-click to paste it in to the browser, it won't take you
to the page. current iceweasel takes you to a google search result.
previous versions used to display an error page saying it wasn't a valid
URL (it is).

the problem would be solved if any leading or trailing angle brackets
were stripped. It also adheres to the principle of robustness - be
conservative in what you send, liberal in what you accept.

Been meaning to submit this bug for years...please forward upstream.

Bug#637688: [mercurial] unable to reproduce bug

2011-08-15 Thread Chris Knadle
Package: mercurial
Version: 1.9.1-2

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

As I don't use Mercurial much (I mostly use Git) I decided to test the upgrade
due to this bug, and was unable to reproduce it. In my case no byte-compiled
files were removed. The relevant output (from aptitude):

Preparing to replace mercurial 1.9.1-1 (using .../mercurial_1.9.1-2_i386.deb)
...
Unpacking replacement mercurial ...
Preparing to replace mercurial-common 1.9.1-1 (using
.../mercurial-common_1.9.1-2_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement mercurial-common ...
...
Setting up mercurial-common (1.9.1-2) ...
Setting up mercurial (1.9.1-2) ...

And 'hg' also seems to operate correctly as far as I can tell.
Now the qustion is what cause byte-compiled files to be removed in the
original instance the bug is based on.

BTW in case this may help, I'm including the output of the following command:

$ ls -ld /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages: No such file or directory

My apologies, i forgot or did not read Russ answer.
CCing to pkg-javascript-devel.

There is the /usr/bin/js alternative provided by spidermonkey-bin, nodejs.

But i am not so sure it is useful as a "usual interpreter" now,
because all scripts doing something with i/o must use smjs or node,
so they wouldn't have /usr/bin/js in their shebang.

Bug#637874: nfs mounts unreliable

2011-08-15 Thread J

Hello Ben,

I have been watching this bug because I have similar behaviour - but I
do not know that it is the same.

I have two exports from the nfs server, which are mounted by one client.

After boot, it is common for one of the exports to mount correctly,
while the other one is nowhere to be seen.

/etc/network/interfaces is set up like this, straight out of the squeeze
setup (6.0.2 release):

allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.10.0.218
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 10.10.0.0
broadcast 10.10.0.255
gateway 10.10.0.231
# dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if
installed

dns-nameservers 10.10.0.231
dns-search my.domain

The nfs-server is listed in /etc/hosts, so I doubt that it is a DNS
problem. I am thinking of moving from "allow-hotplug" to "auto" and
seeing if that fixes the problem. For now, I have put the following
into /etc/init.d/mount_local:

/bin/ping -q -i 0.2 -c 1 -w 10 nfs-server
/bin/mount -v /mount/a
/bin/mount -v /mount/b
/bin/mount

With the ping in place, all exports are correctly mounted.
Without the ping, only one export will be mounted.

By the way, I was hoping that you (or somebody) could explain what the
following snippet is supposed to do:

case "$FSTYPE" in
  nfs|nfs4|smbfs|cifs|coda|ncp|ncpfs|ocfs2|gfs)
;;

It looks like a no-op to me.

bfn,

J

ptlib fails to build on kfreebsd-amd64 due to undefined RTF_WASCLONED macro.

This macro was provided in FreeBSD before 8.0 release, and so it is no longer
available on GNU/kFreeBSD either (which is currently using 8.x headers).

Solution used in FreeBSD ports/devel/ptlib26 is to replace RTF_WASCLONED with
0x2 constant. See attached patch.

Bug#637940: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] Bug#637940: leksah does not run out-of-the-box

2011-08-15 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hello Ximin,

thanks for the report. I’ll look into the issue some other time, but it
seems that all is needed is to compile it with -threaded. If some else
in the DHG wants to look at this, it would be great, I’m going to be
offline until next week.

Severity grave does not really fit here, but it is something that should
be fixed before a release, hence tagging it as serious.

Greetings,
Joachim

I'm unable to reproduce it, both on wheezy or sid.

I noticed there's a similar bug (#473584), though, and it seems related
to distribute instead.

If you can provide step-by-step instructions on how you reproduce this,
it could be of help to decide whether reassigning this bug or not.

Thanks!

BTW: I used the following statement in the Debian changelog to reopen

this now manually. Any idea how to re-open a bug via changelog?

Sounds like at least three bugs:

 - Screen randomly turning off (presumably because the GPU locks up
and the driver is not able to reset it again). Intermittent,
   present in 2.6.32 and 3.0.

 - "*ERROR* Unknown bits per sample" message: appeared in 2.6.32, not
   present in 3.0. Bug#637814.

 - White, grey, and black stripes with snow when microcode is not
installed: not present in 2.6.32, appeared in 3.0.

Let's continue to use this bug to track problem 1.

Anyway, please report this upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/,
product DRI, component DRM/Radeon, and send the bug number so we can
work on it there.

Yes. Though it might be related --- does blacklisting the radeon
driver and not entering a GUI (shutting down from the console) help?

Thanks,
Jonathan

I would consider non-functioning automount for a (short) period of time as
acceptable compromise, but ymmv.

So do you want to wait until this magically happens? When would that be?
Right now, transitions are quite a bit of manual work and the more transitions
are entangled the harder it gets.

> With everything more or less working in experimental, what exactly do you
> fear?

Not by far. See the comments about e.g. libpanel-applet. There is an awful lot
of work to be done to get everything into shape.

The nautilus transitions is already complex enough imho (involving a
mini-transition for evince, brasero, gnome-media, libgdata and possibly
gnome-bluetooth and nautilus-sendto).

Personally I'd be fine with dumping everything into unstable, but imho we could
have a transition which would last over several weeks or months and which
certainly would block other transitions.

That said, it's not really up to me to decide and I'll just wait now what the
release team wants us to do.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#637910: 271 broke -e parsing

2011-08-15 Thread Thomas Dickey

Package: xterm

According to the documentation, and behavior in 270 and previous, the -e
option eats the rest of the command line, passing that as arguments to
the program executed.

In 270, xterm -e mysql -u foo works as expected.
In 270, xterm -e mysql -h foo works as expected.
In 271, xterm -e mysql -u foo works as expected.
In 271, xterm -e mysql -h foo does NOT work.

thanks (I completely overlooked that). Fixing "-e" is fairly simple,
and it's been a while since #271 (since I've been working on a large
ncurses subproject...). I'll put out a short #272 to cover this.

In 271, the -h variant prints out xterm's help and exits.
In 270, the -h variant does not print anything.

Bug#637938: O: libkjdsp-java

2011-08-15 Thread Torsten Werner
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am orphaning the package in behalf of the Java team because:
- it hasn't been maintained for a long time
- it has only orphaned reverse dependencies
- it has a low popcon value
Feel free to re-introduce it to the team if want to actively maintain it.

Torsten

Bug#637935: firmware-b43legacy-installer: Remove BCM4303 from long description

2011-08-15 Thread Geoff Simmons
Package: firmware-b43legacy-installer
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi,

Please remove BCM4303 as a supported chipset in the long description of
the firmware-b43legacy-installer package, along with the reference to it
in firmware-b43-installer's postinst.

PCI ID 14e4:4301 (BCM4301) was incorrectly listed as BCM4303. This is
now amended in the PCI ID repository [1] and Linux Wireless b43 driver
page [2] as of revision 242.

IMHO the best thing about asking for the user's real name is it lets
us calculate a decent login name without making the user think too much
about it, as well as educate the user on what they will need to type
to login. That is more useful for non-skilled users than the typical
benefit of eliminating a question.
