Hi,

Thanks a lot for working on this (even if I agree: transitioning is the
priority :P)

I think it makes sense to work closely with upstream on this package, to
get it in an appropriate shape without carrying too many patches on our
side. Have you contacted them?

Bug#591817: Rubinius for Debian

2011-09-05 Thread Antonio Terceiro
Hello all,

Today I took some time to hack on a Debian package for Rubinius
(http://rubini.us/). I was able to reach a state in which it is works,
but there is still *a lot* of stuff to do before having an
archive-quality package. For example our existing pure-Ruby packages
will not be available for the Rubinius interpreter because its
$LOAD_PATH is very different from the $LOAD_PATH in MRI 1.8 and 1.9.

The sources are at
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/rubinius.git;a=summary

This package contains the latest stable release (1.2.4), but I guess it
makes sense to start working right away on the master branch which is supposed
to be released as 2.0 in some time from now.

If anyone feels like hacking on this, the TODO list is in debian/TODO.
(But I would rather have people working to migrate our existing packages
to the new policy ;-))

Actually, if it was used at all levels of the cert chain, we could block
the CA certificates we want. And we do know their public key, contrary
to the rogue certs.

Bug#640651: please set default FIRST_SYSTEM_UID=1 and FIRST_SYSTEM_GID=1

2011-09-05 Thread Harald Dunkel
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: adduser
Version: 3.113
Severity: wishlist

Please set the defaults

FIRST_SYSTEM_UID=1
FIRST_SYSTEM_GID=1

in /etc/adduser.conf to avoid conflicts in existing environments
when running debian-installer.

Using debian installer the current defaults for FIRST_SYSTEM_UID
and FIRST_SYSTEM_GID produce conflicts with existing "real"
accounts managed in a historically grown NIS environment. The
first system UIDs and GIDs >100 are allocated before you have a
chance to edit /etc/adduser.conf or to start NIS, while most
UIDs<100 and GIDs<100 would be free to use.

In historically grown environments network wide accounts with
UIDs and GIDs <1000 are not uncommon. Good old SunOS 4.x reserved
just UIDs and GIDs <100 for system usage, for example.

Regards

Harri

I recall similar problems when I also disabled all CAs on my machine
long time ago. I suspect some software may be checking the return code
from the CA loading function, and will treat loading of 0 certificates
as an error. Please try to track down the code that triggers the error
message to test this theory.

The wifi controllers on laptops are normally on expansion cards plugged
into a slot on the motherboard. So if the only change is a replacement
motherboard, it seems possible that the connection to the new
motherboard is poor.

Unfortunately Fujitsu doesn't seem to provide instructions for opening
up the laptop to check this.

Thanks, but I think we'll wait for the official version.

Is there a separate applet for pulseaudio then? I didn't choose
deliberately to use mixer_applet2 when i made this test, i was just
using the default for a debian GNOME 3 install.

hm, i don't have such a system running at the moment (the system that i

Bug#640517: closed by Colin Watson (Re: Bug#640517: grub-pc: Failed to boot after upgraded to sid, error: symbol not found: `grub_divmod64_full'.)

2011-09-05 Thread Rex Tsai
Thanks, Colin.

I checked it again. It's because I cloned a virtualbox disk,
which caused the uuid changed.

Need to run grub-mkdevicemap to update the device map, and
reinstall grub by `grub-install' or dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc.

It seems fairly clear to me that the caller ensures this parameter is
non-zero. And there has been no sign of this in any traceback.

The code dump actually corresponds to this line in update_sg_lb_stats(),
which has been compiled inline with find_busiest_group():

sgs->avg_load = (sgs->group_load * SCHED_LOAD_SCALE) / group->cpu_power;

Not so recent - 2.6.32 was released 21 months ago now.

Hi Ansgar,

I have the last version of libquvi in
https://github.com/mogaal/libquvi but I am waiting for the next
upstream release because upstream missed the point of symbol
versioning. They bumped SONAME without changing symbol versions... I
have spoken with upstream developer and he will fix it for next
upstream release.

If you have other good idea you can help me =).

Bug#640418: Does not use an initrd on mipsel/loongson-2f systems

2011-09-05 Thread Javier Vasquez
Hi, I'm an user, not a dev, but I own a lemote mini-pc, not the
laptop, and the linux kernel for loongson-2f can be loaded through
initrd. Actually that's the way archloong does it. This doesn't have
anything to do to the ability to boot with grub. Actually archloong
does not support grub (neither any other bootloader on top of pmon) at
all for lemote products...

Even when gNewSense has been able to make grub work, not sure if only
for laptops, or mini-pcs included, on debian this is broken for
mini-pcs, when trying to load the initrd the machine just goes to
limbo. So I'd suggest not to depend upon grub to make decisions about
the kernel or initrd...

That said, I think using an initrd should be no problem, given that
other distros are using it. But this ability should not depend upont
grub. Whether because grub is broken, or because people wan to still
use the pmon bootloader, or because enabling pmon as a backup when
things go wrong with grub, people should still be able to load the
initrd, or to use an ext4 root FS.

Notice also that to get ext4 support for root, there's no need for
initrd either. It could be gotten by providing direct native support
in the kernel. This sounds like the safest, cause then mounting the
root FS will work no matter something else is broken, like loading the
initrd or booting through grub... In the case of archloong, the dev
decided to support initrd, and still ext4 is compiled directly within
the kernel, not as a module, and it doesn't have problems having root
FS being ext4...

Thanks,

--
Javier.

The failure of vgchange is in kmalloc(), which suggests memory
corruption. You also said "Sometimes, the kernel freezes several
minutes after an apparently normal boot." initramfs-tools surely isn't
responsible for that!

I suspect a hardware problem (though a kernel bug could be responsible).
There's an old but still somewhat relevant FAQ covering unexplained
instability: . The first thing to check
would be RAM (memtest86+).

Bug#577123: handling multiple modules contending for VT-x/AMD-V access

2011-09-05 Thread James Nobis
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

The original ticket may be well over a year old but it is still
relevant. I got bit by this after just upgrading to Squeeze this past
weekend. This bug ticket was actually the only useful information I got
in about 2 pages of google results.

It seems that once a kernel module gets hold of the hardware
virtualization then it blocks other modules from sharing it. In the
very least how about documentation for the relevant modules (kvm,
virtualbox-ose, and prob others) to give users information about the issue.

More thorough fixes would have to have a method of a default module and
then blacklist the other modules. For that matter if the kvm module
isn't in use and someone launches a Virtual Box vm unload the kvm, then
unload the kvm module, reload the vboxdrv module, then launch the vm.

Bug#640649: TODO item “fix scripts for dash as default shell”

Attached patch addresses TODO item in subject

It is somewhat difficult for me to test these changes thoroughly.
Also, note that checkbashisms still reports the use of $HOSTNAME as
"potential"bash-ism; I am nearly certain this is fine, given it is assigned
via `hostname`.

Note this patch applies to files in the [now deprecated(?)] piatti SVN
sub-repository (if that is the correct SVN term ?). Note sure where
that lives

since the transition to git.

Bug#640648: TODO item “PackagesDB: get rid of 50% of unique()”

2011-09-05 Thread Scott Schaefer

Package: piuparts
Version: 0.41
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Attached patch addresses TODO item in sbuject.

I chose to implement this by using the set type in place of a list and
unique(),

and then using set.pop() method in place of random.shuffle().

I also modified the class to no longer pass large "package" objects
around, but rather to just pass list/set of package names (since I
was "forced to", since you cannot add a non-hashable object to a
set). This required a new function to return package object, given
name as input. This required one change to piuparts-report.

Note the max time is controlled by a hard-coded value in
piuparts-slave (MAX_WAIT_TEST_RUN), which I set to 45
minutes. Please adjust based on your better judgement.

This may/will(?) require some additional mods in the reporting
scripts to detect. When a process is killed after the max wait
period, the log has the following appended:

*** Process KILLED - exceed maximum run time ***

+Description: general markup converter
+ Pandoc is a Haskell library for converting from one markup format to
+ another, and a command-line tool that uses this library. It can read
+ markdown and (subsets of) reStructuredText, HTML, and LaTeX; and it can
+ write plain text, markdown, reStructuredText, HTML, LaTeX, ConTeXt,
+ RTF, DocBook XML, OpenDocument XML, ODT, GNU Texinfo, MediaWiki markup,
+ EPUB, Textile, groff man pages, Emacs Org-mode, and Slidy or S5 HTML
+ slide shows.
+ .
+ Pandoc's enhanced version of markdown includes syntax for footnotes,
+ tables, flexible ordered lists, definition lists, delimited code
+ blocks, superscript, subscript, strikeout, title blocks, automatic
+ tables of contents, embedded LaTeX math, citations, and markdown inside
+ HTML block elements. (These enhancements can optionally be disabled.)
+ .
+ In contrast to most existing tools for converting markdown to HTML,
+ which use regex substitutions, Pandoc has a modular design: it consists
+ of a set of readers, which parse text in a given format and produce a
+ native representation of the document, and a set of writers, which
+ convert this native representation into a target format. Thus, adding
+ an input or output format requires only adding a reader or writer.
+ .
+ This package contains the profiling libraries for Pandoc.

Bug#640644: bluez: attempted upgrade from 4.94-3 to 4.96-1 causes kernel "oops"

2011-09-05 Thread cfr
Package: bluez
Version: 4.94-3
Severity: important

Attempted upgrade using aptitude from 4.94-3 to 4.96-1 caused "oops". On
reboot, aptitude demanded dpkg --configure -a but dpkg reports bluez in
too damaged a state. Attempting to force installation retriggers "oops".
Attempting to remove bluez causes system to offer to uninstall large
parts of itself. Package state is therefore irresolvably inconsistent at
present.

Note that the problem is with 4.96-1 and not 4.94-3. Although reportbug
says this is the installed version, dpkg/apt-get can no longer find this
4.94.3. Files under dpkg's status are for 4.94.3 but files in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/ are for 4.96-1 and dpkg reports the package as
half-configured or half-installed or in need of reinstallation...

[But I cannot reinstall 4.94-3 because nothing can find the file even
with appropriate snapshot sources listed in sources.list.]

I could not capture the output of the "oops"s because the system was
entirely unresponsive and nothing seems to have been logged. Following
suggestions in the kernel documentation, however, I did try to take a
photograph of my screen on the second "oops" and I can provide this if
it might be of any use. (It is probably not a very good photograph as I
don't have a great camera but it was taken with a camera rather than
just a phone, say.)

Bug#623263: shibboleth-sp2: FTBFS on armel (ICE)

2011-09-05 Thread peter green

If there is a need to get this package building on armel again before the
gcc bug is fixed it is possible to do so by building it with g++-4.4 (4.5
and 4.6 both fail) on armel. I've attatched a patch that does that.

Thanks for the patch!

Do you know if this will cause any problems given that shibboleth-sp2 is
linked with several shared libraries now built with g++-4.6?

I belive all recent g++ versions are abi compatible (they certainly all
use the same version of libstdc++). ccing debian-gcc for confirmation.

If you have technical corrections to those instructions, please share.

I think you don't understand what the word "offensive" means.

For example, "offensive" would be if I asked you to die in a fire.

Bug#640643: rest2web: __prune__ in dot directories is ignored

2011-09-05 Thread Karl Goetz
Package: rest2web
Version: 0.5.2~alpha+svn-r248-2
Severity: normal

Hi,
I've just confirmed this, so I thought I'd put in a bug report.

I have a site which contains these directories:

10:15:16 kgoetz@epicfail: ~/webrest $ ls -A
total 84K
drwxr-xr-x 6 kgoetz kgoetz 4.0K Aug 27 09:01 .bzr

[...]
drwxr-xr-x 3 kgoetz kgoetz 4.0K Sep 6 10:13 website-generator
[...]

Adding __prune__ to .bzr and website-generator, I expect both to be skipped.
Oddly, only website-generator is. .bzr is processed as normal.

I tried adding .bzr as a 'forced skip' with .svn in the codebase and had no
luck either, perhaps an issue with all dot directories?

thanks,
kk

Bug#633932: dump: Related bugs

2011-09-05 Thread Mark Wooding
I've seen this bug too. It's caused by a binary- and source-
incompatible change in e2fslibs, which I reported as #636418. This is
also responsible for the FTBFS #634421.

This is, of course, extremely bad form of e2fslibs, which should have
changed the soname and package name.

If you want to debate it, you can talk to the OpenBSD people, but I

Hi Qi,

Here are a couple of patches adapting mail-notification to Evolution 3
and GTK+ 3. They're based on the work done on Fedora 16, available at
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/gitweb/?p=mail-notification.git;a=tree

This also requires changes to debian/control and debian/rules; I'll
get a working package uploaded in the next few days.

Regards,

Stephen

Bug#640638: libbotan-1.8.2: Outdated binary packages in unstable

2011-09-05 Thread Ondřej Surý
found 640638 1.8.13-1
fixed 640638 1.8.13-2
forcemerge 633775 640638
thank you

Hi Francis,

there's a transition bug #638818 which I have filled, but the release
team is probably overwhelmed,
so no action was done yet.

libbotan-1.8.2 will disappear from the archive automatically when
there is no binary package depending
on it, there's no need to take any manual action on botan1.8 side. I
am sorry about the breakage,
but the milk has been spilled and it didn't make sense to upload fixed
libbotan-1.8.2 when simple binNMU
would fix the problem.

It means if the monotone still has a problem it needs a binNMU or just
upload a new monotone version
with Build-depends: libbotan1.8-dev (>= 1.8.13-2~)

Let me know if I should request the binNMU[1] for monotone or you can
do it yourself, I'll be away from
computer for three days from now, so it will be faster if you do it.

Looks like I'll have to take care of keysafe, since it has been
orphaned and is maintained by Debian QA.

Bug#640639: libcurl: CURLE_SSL_CACERT_BADFILE error when all CAs in ca-certificates disabled

2011-09-05 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: libcurl3-gnutls
Version: 7.21.7-1

Today I ran into a weird error:

| $ git fetch
| error: while accessing https://github.com/torvalds/linux.git/info/refs

The cause was that git does not fall back to curl_easy_strerror() when
the error buffer is empty, as discussed at [1]. Easy enough to work
around that:

| $ git fetch
| error: Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) while accessing
https://github.com/torvalds/linux.git/info/refs

"Is ca-certificates broken?" I start to wonder. But no, now I
remember: I just had disabled all CAs at the debconf prompt since I
have no reason to trust them.

| $ ls -l /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
| -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Sep 2 00:07 /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt

This is probably a libgnutls bug, but since I haven't pinned it down
I'm filing it here. Known problem?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Bug#640326: makedic package description

As I hope that message explains, it's a little more nuanced: both
title-case “Kanji” and lowercase “kanji” are okay, for saying different
things.

I would read the above “for learning kanji” as “for learning individual
items from some collection of glyphs from the writing system Kanji”; and
likewise for “learning hiragana” and “learning katakana”.

That is, it's fine to say that a program helps with “learning kanji”,
if that means one is learning individual glyphs (as seems likely for
this package).

I also agree that the “proper noun” category is arbitrary; for example,
I have no problem that we no longer refer to the Internet, but rather
refer to the internet.

Bug#640637: live-magic: uses hardcoded errno values

2011-09-05 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: live-magic
Version: 1.14
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

currently live-magic compares 'errno' values with hardcoded numeric values,
instead of using the constants of the 'errno' Python module.
This can lead to bugs due to E* values being potentially different per-OS,
and even per-arch for the same OS.

The attached patch fixes the issue.

Thanks,

Bug#562677: audiofile: diff for NMU version 0.2.7-0.2

2011-09-05 Thread Alessio Treglia

Hi Daniel,

I've prepared an NMU for audiofile (versioned as 0.2.7-0.2) and I intend
to upload it to DELAYED/10 once audiofile 0.2.7-0.1 has migrated to
testing.

Please let me know what you think about that, and thanks in advance for
any reply.

Regards.

Bug#640636: FTBFS on !x86

2011-09-05 Thread Philipp Kern
Package: drc
Version: 3.1.1~dfsg0-1
Severity: important

Hi,

please fix the package to compile on !x86 by not passing SSE options to the
build. If that is not possible (like due to inline assembly and such), please
restrict the architecture line to "any-i386 any-amd64".

Kind regards
Philipp Kern

The loongson-2f sub-architecture uses GRUB and is able to use an
initrd. I don't know about the other subarchitectures...

Copying debian-mips to see if anyone there knows.

thanks

The version of sqlite3-ruby in squeeze (1.2.4) does not fully support
ruby1.9, your best option is to recompile a more recent version (at
least 1.3.1) from source on a squeeze system.

The link provided by the submitter is now broken. It seems that

tarball that he describes.

With gnat-4.4-4.6-5 and libpolyorb1-dev-2.6.0~20090423-10 (providing
/usr/bin/po_gnatdist, emulation of the obsolete /usr/bin/gnatdist), I get a

Bug#640628: debpartial-mirror: uses hardcoded errno values

2011-09-05 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: debpartial-mirror
Version: 0.2.99
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

currently debpartial-mirror compares 'errno' values with hardcoded numeric
values, instead of using the constants of the 'errno' Python module.
This can lead to bugs due to E* values being potentially different per-OS,
and even per-arch for the same OS.

The attached patch fixes the issue.

Thanks,

Hi,

I'm wondering if there is an update for the libquvi package in Debian
planned. If there is none, I am considering to prepare an NMU for the
new upstream version (which will probably take a few days).

Bug#629373: Remote DoS with vsftpd on Linux 2.6.32

2011-09-05 Thread Daniel Baumann

On 09/05/2011 10:42 PM, Jon Dowland wrote:

So you didn't. So instead I should have written:

You forgot (or haven't got around to) pushing back to

However, http://git.debian-maintainers.org/?p=daniel/vsftpd.git is now a 404.

first of all..

i used to use git.debian.net as git.debian.org is unusable (for
starters, it's not using a ssh gatekeeper). people accused me abusing
debian ressources (sic; it's a debian.net domain name!). so i switched
over the course of two years all my packages to
git.debian-maintainers.org. when i was finished, people accused me,
amonst others, of hiding maintainer ship by, amonst others, using
non-alioth infrastructure.

what i learned from this? never ever use any domain matching
(.*)debian(.*) anymore for anything (live.d.n being the only exception)
and not referencing vcs in control anymore anywhere...

I see in the changelog:

* Removing vcs fields.

Not helpful ☹

...and guess what? you people keep complaining.

in order to further minimize that, next time, i will just tag bugs
pending without mentioning git or version control or anything like that.

second, the repo on git.d-m.o was outdated since quite some time, i just
forgot to remove it, which i did today after uploading the new one to
the new location. i soon can get rid of the whole domain anyway once all
my packages have been moved.

third, in debian[tm], maintainers are free to use whatever version
control they seem fit, or none at all. so from your point of view, i see
no point in being any better of as if i would not use any version
control at all.

not amused.

maybe. I copied over the debian directory from the source package in
sid, and compiled with (almost) standard options and the compilation
failed at this point. I can't say whether it's a regression in the
code or due to the way I compiled it.

Hmm... perhaps. When I moved a window over the xterm window, the
xterm contents were redrawn correctly. If the driver or X is in
charge of this, this would mean the bug comes from it.

From the description and picture, I'm assuming it's a duplicate of

I don't think so. BTW, I use the "fixed" font.

ok... I would expect #463784 only for relatively uncommon fonts (or
from fontconfig changes - they've been tinkering with the font metrics).

Hmm... perhaps. When I moved a window over the xterm window, the
xterm contents were redrawn correctly. If the driver or X is in
charge of this, this would mean the bug comes from it.

I don't think so. BTW, I use the "fixed" font.

For now, I haven't seen it reappear, but two bugs would explain why I

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
amd64.

Relevant part:

The full build log is available from:

http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2011/09/02/jaminid_0.99a-1_lsid64.buildlog

A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at
http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . You're welcome to contribute!

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot. Internet was not
accessible from the build systems.

Bug#640422: clive: Please add support for videobash

Hi,

clive will switch to using quvi as a backend. Support for additional
video sites should thus be added there and not in clive.

Upstream the switch already happened with clive 2.3.x. Sadly the
libquiv package in Debian seems not to be very well maintained so I have
refraind from uploading the newer version to Debian so far.

Regards,
Ansgar

I am still on my self-prescribed mental break from all this. My answer would be
that whoever addresses this issue should work closely with upstream on this.
And if they do not care, neither should Debian. Well, they may be happy about it
to be done for them.

Well, this is some disagreement of mine with the rest of pkg-java. It
once implemented ldconfig for java through the Debian packaging mechanism.
That is not appreciated, though.

Bug#623263: shibboleth-sp2: FTBFS on armel (ICE)

This bug also affects testing

If there is a need to get this package building on armel again before
the gcc bug is fixed it is possible to do so by building it with g++-4.4
(4.5 and 4.6 both fail) on armel. I've attatched a patch that does that.

The full build log is available from:

It is reproducible by installing your package in a clean chroot, using
the debconf Noninteractive frontend, and priority: critical.

This test was carried out using about 50 AMD64 nodes of the Grid'5000
platform. Internet was not accessible from the nodes.

Yes, applications can subscribe to consolekit events, but mixer_applet2
does not. And it will probably never do that.

The mixer_applet2 applet is still here for people who don’t want to
start pulseaudio for one reason or another, but in the general case you
want to use pulseaudio instead, since it doesn’t have such problems and
handles dynamic devices correctly.

It is reproducible by installing your package in a clean chroot, using
the debconf Noninteractive frontend, and priority: critical.

This test was carried out using about 50 AMD64 nodes of the Grid'5000
platform. Internet was not accessible from the nodes.

This is likely caused by the fact that this test disables starting
daemons using policy-rc.d.
