Bug#646198: [midori] Use DOM API to get selected text in WebKitGTK+ 1.5.1

2011-10-22 Thread Dererk
Package: midori
Version: 0.4.1-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Reason: renders the software unusable

$ midori
midori: symbol lookup error: midori: undefined symbol:
webkit_web_view_get_selected_text

Test Browser works fine, this is just a midori workaround to handle the
remotion of the webkit_web_view_get_selected_text function on webkit.

Please find a possible patch here[1]. I've applied it and works as expected.

Cheers,

Dererk

Bug#646199: libstfl-dev: Needs to depend on libstfl0

2011-10-22 Thread Sven Joachim
Package: libstfl-dev
Version: 0.21-2
Severity: serious

The libstfl-dev package needs to depend on libstfl0 (= ${binary:Version})
for the /usr/lib/libstfl.so - libstfl.so.0 symlink.

I suppose this missing dependency is the reason why libstfl0 does not
have _any_ reverse dependencies, since it's only possible to link
statically against stfl unless you build-depend on libstfl0.

On 10/20/2011 02:16 PM, Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote:
In README.Debian, you pre-require cgroup to be mounted.

/sys/fs/cgroup is the cannonical location to mount cgroups on as decided

 Doing a manual
mount breaks other applications (like ulatencyd).

having said above, this is entirely unrelated to lxc. those other
applications need to be updated then, nothing that lxc can do about
that, reassigning to ulatencyd.

 problem.

I don't claim to be a Debian packaging expert. I've only looked through the
 documentation.
snip
There will have to be some changes in the package configuration of both
sysvinit and systemd-sysv - sooner or later.
snip

Discussions like #591791 show that there is a lot of groundwork to lay before
alternative boot systems can be expressed in terms of packaging in Debian.

I do not see further discussion happening here unless you manage to frame
questions without disrespect.

I do have an interest in it, but removing Essential: yes from sysvinit
is not the first step in getting systemd better integrated in
Debian. You're of course free to think I should have a keener interest
in getting systemd-sysv be more useful, but I don't and the tone of your
mail does in no way make me more interested. Given it's the only
feedback I've had about systemd-sysv, I'd be more inclined to just drop

No, I'm in no way saying they're a mistake and I see nothing in what I
write arguing for that. Please don't construct strawmen or put words in
my mouth.

| And the man pages - nothing useful? We do not need systemd-sysv?
| Then, why does it exist? I think this line of reasoning is foolish -
| or absurd.

No, I'm saying you can work fine without it. It exists so people can
experiment with it but it has some fairly serious problems associated
issued with it, like the conflict with an essential package.

| systemd-sysvinit can't be essential since that'd force it onto all
| systems.
|
| I don't claim to be a Debian packaging expert. I've only looked
| through the documentation. Fine - don't make systemd-sysv an
| Essential package, just make it Provides: init, Conflicts: init, and
| Replaces: init, or some such.

That could work, if some other package then has a Depends on
init. Such a package would be base-files, for instance.

This would require a bit of coordination with base-files.

| Either way, I do not accept any insinuation that the Debian packaging
| system is somehow broken and not able to handle multiple init
| packages. That is also an absurd line of reasoning.

Again, please don't construct strawmen. Nobody has said that the Debian
packaging system is broken or unable to handle multiple init systems.
I've explained why your suggested solution (adding Essential: yes) would
not work.

| There will have to be some changes in the package configuration of both
| sysvinit and systemd-sysv - sooner or later. Please offer some useful
| solutions, rather than foot-dragging and throwing road-blocks.

I think it would be a useful first step to stop accusing people of
foot-dragging and throwing road-blocks. You're coming across as quite
aggressive and confrontional.

Bug#646204: gnome-disk-utility: Please transition libgdu0 for multiarch

2011-10-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: gnome-disk-utility
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

Hey folks,

You know the drill... :) Patch for multiarch support attached. Has been
uploaded to Ubuntu.

This one's a little goofy in that the package integrates with nautilus,
which still only looks in /usr/lib/nautilus (AFAIK). So we have to do a
little extra work to move things around.

Bug#646206: kmymoney: Decimal separator no longer respected when importing from CSV

2011-10-22 Thread Arto Jantunen
Package: kmymoney
Version: 4.6.0-2-1
Severity: important

The CSV importer no longer respects the decimal separator setting in
any way, all data is always imported incorrectly (as if the decimal
separator didn't exist at all, so amount x 100 usually). This worked
on 15.10.2011, but doesn't today. Kmymoney has not been upgraded
during that time but some parts of the KDE runtime have (I follow
unstable very closely on this machine), the bug was probably
introduced somewhere over there.

Filed as important since it makes the package unusable for anyone who
imports from CSV.

Test Browser works fine, this is just a midori workaround to handle the
remotion of the webkit_web_view_get_selected_text function on webkit.

Please find a possible patch here[1]. I've applied it and works as expected.

Considering the patch is already present in 0.4.1 I fail to see how you
managed to “apply” it.

Rebuilding is enough to fix the problem. There's already a bug tracking
this, see #646095.

I'm not reassigning/merging, I'll just close with the binNMU version
once rebuilt.

Bug#619846: RFA: sam2p -- convert raster images to EPS, PDF, and other formats

Hi Tanguy,

sorry for not responding so long.

Did it? I see that a project has been started in Google code to
take over its maintenance: was that your initiative or is their a

There have been two new upstream releases since then. It seems the
author has found more time for sam2p again. I had nothing to do with
it.

sam2p has a tendency to FTBFS with most major new gcc releases.
Therefore, the new maintainer should have some C++ knowledge
and the ability/willingness to dig into some hand-crafted build
  system.

Unfortunately this is not really in my skills. Ideally this should
be upstream's job so I think what is mostly needed is a new
upstream… If someone can be found to handle the coding work, I
would be glad to do adopt the package.

If you are still interested, I think it would be great if you would
co-maintain the package. You could do the normal maintenance and I
could help you with coding (if upstream does not handle it).

Cheers,
Stefan

Bug#643957: [BTS#643957] templates://live-build/{live-build-cron.templates} : Final update for English review

2011-10-22 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, October 01, 2011, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for live-build.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the final proposed changes are attached to this update to the
original bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading live-build with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, when
I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed
or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Wednesday, November 16, 2011, I will contact you again and will send a
final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#646207: libboost-graph-dev: Linking error with read_graphviz

2011-10-22 Thread Andreas Cord-Landwehr
Package: libboost-graph-dev
Version: 1.46.1.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

there is a linker problem when using read_graphviz as defined
in boost/graph/graphviz.hpp. The linker error is the following:

--- snip ---
g++ -Wall -pedantic -g  graphviz.cpp
/tmp/cccHnOax.o: In function `bool

A non linking example is already shipped with the boost debian packages as
/usr/share/doc/libboost1.46-doc/examples/libs/graph/example/graphviz.cpp
or
/usr/share/doc/libboost1.46-doc/examples/libs/graph/example/read_graphviz.cpp

This actually looks quite similar to closed bug
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=326089
for Boost 1.33.

Bug#646208: RFH: apache2 -- Apache HTTP Server

2011-10-22 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am looking for co-maintainers for the apache2 package. The other
co-maintainers are inactive. The package is not in a bad shape, but I am
lacking time and there is significant work to be done in the near future.

The new co-maintainer(s) should of course have significant experience as apache
user and some skills in Debian packaging. Depending on their level of
experience, the following tasks need to be done:

* Respond to new bug reports and check if there is actually a bug or if it is
just a configuration error.

* Investigate and fix bugs.

* Follow up on bugs marked moreinfo and maybe close them.

* A new major upstream release (2.4) is expected soon. Upgrading the package to
2.4 will require lots of packaging work like designing an upgrade path (the
apache2-mpm* packages will likely go away), extending the maintainer scripts to
handle the upgrade, writing documentation, adapting the default configuration,
communicating with the maintainers of module packages, and testing the upgrade
process and the new packages.

* The major upgrade will allow to do some changes which have been deferred for
compatibility (like improving the conf.d mechanism).

* There are also a number of features that would be nice to have but have so
far not been implemented due to lack of time. For example, there should be some
way for the admin to configure if apache2 should be restarted when module
packages are installed/upgraded/removed.

* Help with maintaining apr/apr-util/ssl-cert is also appreciated, but these
are a lot less work.

Maintaining apache2 in Debian is a great way to learn more about Apache HTTPD.
This includes its advanced and/or less frequently used features and its inner
workings. But maintaining apache2 also means putting emphasis on reliability
and not breaking people's setups.

As I am not really involved in Ubuntu, people who are knowledgable about
Ubuntu's needs and development process are especially welcome.

Cheers,
Stefan

Bug#646209: libhtml-mason-perl-examples: installs files to /var/www (in postinst)

2011-10-22 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Package: libhtml-mason-perl-examples
Version: 1:1.46-1
Severity: important

libhtml-mason-perl-examples by default installs files to /var/www (in
postinst). This should not be done, see the description for the
dir-or-file-in-var-www lintian tag below:

Debian packages should not install files under /var/www. This is not
one of the /var directories in the File Hierarchy Standard and is
under the control of the local administrator. Packages should not
assume that it is the document root for a web server; it is very
common for users to change the default document root and packages
should not assume that users will keep any particular setting.

Packages that want to make files available via an installed web server
should instead put instructions for the local administrator in a
README.Debian file and ideally include configuration fragments for
common web servers such as Apache.

As an exception, packages are permitted to create the /var/www
directory due to its past history as the default document root, but
should at most copy over a default file in postinst for a new install.
In this case, please add a Lintian override.

Refer to Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (The /var Hierarchy) for
   details.

   Severity: serious, Certainty: possible

We might also want to merge the *-examples with the *-doc package.

Regards,
Ansgar

Bug#646199: libstfl-dev: Needs to depend on libstfl0

2011-10-22 Thread Nico Golde
Hi,
* Sven Joachim svenj...@gmx.de [2011-10-22 08:29]:

Oh, thanks for noticing. I have no idea why this dependency is not there and
given that stfl would probably never go through NEW like that I would expect
that this has gone missing at a later point. Will be fixed soon.
Thanks!

Bug#646196: qemu-kvm: Crashes with Linux 3.x

 Hello.
I really like this package, qemu-kvm.
However, in these days, I cannot use it due to its bug.

When I start kvm, I get the following message.

 ---
 kvm_create_vm: Device or resource busy
Could not initialize KVM, will disable KVM support
kvm_set_phys_mem: error unregistering overlapping slot: Invalid argument

 ---

This appears to be a bug in qemu-kvm - the last Aborted message.
Please retry with 0.15 version which were uploaded into unstable
just yesterday. The bug appears to be minor - it should not
crash in this case but continue running without kvm enabled
(which is, obviously, very slow).

The kvm modules seem well loaded.

When executing kvm, dmesg presents a simple message:
[ 225.730117] kvm: enabling virtualization on CPU0 failed

And this is a bug most likely in your BIOS. Check if virtualization
is enabled in the BIOS. Remember that in order for this change to
take effect (virtualisation in bios enable/disable), you have to
power-cycle the machine in question, simple reboot is not enough.

If it is properly enabled and the thing still does not work, I'd
suggest you to post to k...@vger.kernel.org mailing list, where
kvm is being discussed/developed - I can't help here myself since
I don't know this area well enough and I don't want to act as a
broken phone between you and developers.

And my /proc/cpuinfo is shown as follows:

 ---
 processor: 0
 vendor_id: AuthenticAMD
 cpu family: 16
 model: 2
 model name: AMD Athlon(tm) 7750 Dual-Core Processor
[]
I think I've got this error since I upgraded the linux kernel to version 3.x,
but I am not sure. :

It is very unlikely that the problem is kernel-specific. It is
possible, yes, but unlikely. But I guess it's trivial to verify -
just install an older (2.6.32?) kernel and see if you can reproduce
the issue.

 There is one who suffers from a similar problem in Ubuntu Forum;
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1773187

Well, there's almost no information in that thread, so nothing to
say too.

How can I handle this bug ?
 Please help me.

So verify if the problem is specific to some kernel version or is
general on your machine. If different kernel shows different
behavour, the next step will be to try to find the change which
is causing this -- git bisect will help here. If another kernel
shows the same issue, the problem is in hardware most likely.
In either case, it is kernel=hardware problem, and should be
addressed in kvm@vger mailinglist with all the details you can
provide.

Thanks,

/mjt

Bug#646212: /usr/sbin/wicd: wicd-daemon fails to restart: No module named wicd

2011-10-22 Thread Neil Williams
Package: wicd-daemon
Version: 1.7.0+ds1-8
Severity: grave
File: /usr/sbin/wicd
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Upgrading to 1.7.0+ds1-8 reported an error restarting the daemon, I lost
the internet connection.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

   Downgraded to 1.7.0+ds1-7 from /var/cache/apt/archives:
   wicd-daemon, python-wicd, wicd-gtk

   * What was the outcome of this action?

   Connected again.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Daemon should have restarted cleanly at current version without
   needing the downgrade.

Restarting the 1-8 daemon only reported failed! - running /usr/sbin/wicd at
a terminal reports:

$ sudo /usr/sbin/wicd
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/share/wicd/daemon/wicd-daemon.py, line 56, in module
from wicd import wpath
ImportError: No module named wicd

(This was after the upgrade had finished, so 1-8 was fully installed,
before I downgraded to 1-7.)

Currently pinning wicd to 1-7 to maintain connectivity.

This is reported in Debian as bug 553211. Until that is fixed
debian-live cannot support netbooting over dhcp properly.

i've commented on the bug, unrelated to that, i can prepare packages of
dhcp and live-config so we can test this more easily, and, if it works
and doesn't break other things, NMU dhcp if needed after some time.

The thing is that you can't tell if the patch does break anything from
testing with Debian live only.

Debian live uses simple networking configuration in which the patch works.

However, in more complex cases downing the interface might be a
replacement for proper cleanup which the script never had to do due to
the fact downing an interface removes pretty much everything related
to it.

Bug#646213: [rekonq] option to disable kpart

2011-10-22 Thread Adrien
Package: rekonq
Version: 0.7.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Could you please add an option not to use an embed kpart but rather to be able
to choose an external application ?

For instance, I better prefer to see a PDF in okular than in rekonq, as it
lacks menu for instance. For now I have to save into a file and then open this
file with okular the PDF :-(

It could be good to have the choice of the application when openning a file
(pdf, odt, .diff, etc.) in the same way it happens in konqueror.

Thanks for your work on rekonq,

Adrien

Already reported as #646210, and already fixed before even that bug was filed :)

Upgrading to 1.7.0+ds1-8 reported an error restarting the daemon, I
 lost the internet connection.

(this shouldn't happen though: the daemon stopped but my connection stayed
alive. This should be a different bug)

Fixed in -9 though.

Looks like I just don't have the time and inclination to take care of
this one. A new upstream version exists. Uses a custom build system.

If you take this one, feel free to take webserver-package too, in some
form, if you find it useful.

Hello,

After a dist-upgrade on my sid yesterday (sadly, I don't remember which

The prompt disappears and then nothing happens. I'm just stucked with the

If I wait for a little while, the gnome Ooops message shows.

I've got the following warning in /var/log/syslog files :

Bug#646196: qemu-kvm: Crashes with Linux 3.x

2011-10-22 Thread Hae-woo Park
I really appreciate your quick answer.

Today, I tried an older kernel, linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64.deb.
Yes, it works very well with qemu-kvm 0.14.1.

So I changed the environment as follows:
-. linux-image 3.1rc7 (in experimental) + qemu-kvm 0.14.1 -- failed
-. linux-image 3.0 + qemu-kvm 0.15.1+dfsg-1 -- failed (segmentation fault)

Anyway, I will try to post in kvm@vger mailing-list.
Thank you so much.

Regards,
Hae-woo Park.

You should get that error message if you hardware does not support
gnome-shell (which requires 3D and certain extensions)

Bug#646208: RFH: apache2 -- Apache HTTP Server

2011-10-22 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Hi Arno, hi Sandro,

it would be great to have you on board.

If you haven't done so yet, subscribe to debian-apache@l.d.o and just
chime into bug reports. If you have any patches, attach them to the
bugs or send them to the list. I will add you to svn after a few
contributions. Theses pages may have information useful for you:

http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Apache/SVN
http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Apache
http://wiki.debian.org/Apache2SqueezeGoals (obviously outdated)

There is also a link to a commit mailing list in one of the pages.

There are a few more todos which just came to my mind:

- Use dpkg-buildflags in apache2, apr, apr-util
- Support multiarch in apr, apr-util

As I am not really involved in Ubuntu, people who are
knowledgable about Ubuntu's needs and development process are
  especially welcome.

As same as Arno, I'm not exactly the right person for this :)

No problem. I have forwarded the RFH to the ubuntu server team list.
Maybe someone from there will answer.

Cheers,
Stefan

Do you use gdm3 or any other kind of display manager?
Is the problem reproducible after a reboot or with a fresh user account?
Could you attach your ~/.xsession-errors after a failed login attempt
(you probably need to switch to CTRL+ALT+F1 and make a copy before you
login again with some other WM, as it will be overwritten).
Running gnome-session with --debug would be helpful, too. This will
log much more details to ~/.xsession-errors.

Thanks for reporting it. Is this a regression, or has it been this

ok.

The question now becomes should we backport 0.95 with a patch to
remove the annoying warning on the console ?

isn't #575411 much more than a mere warning? (I'm not really sure anymore... I
now tend to think it's just a warning one as you said so :-)

If it's a real error, fixing this in stable would be appropriate...

Bug#646219: lxde: Hangs for long time when starting.

2011-10-22 Thread Sthu Deus
Package: lxde
Version: 0.5.5-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

I use kdm for X-login. When my LXDE session starts it hangs for about 13
seconds. After which I get a message window:

couldn't communicate with already running daemon: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
the network connection was broken.

after clicking on its OK-button, LXDE brings me up my session.

Please fix the bug OR tell me what I should configure to skip this long delay.

Thank You for Your work.

 Hi Juhapekka,

do other tk applications work on your system?

At least TkMan, tkjpeg and TkDesk works.

Sometimes this is caused by the X-server, could you update to the
 newest version?

I updated X-server-packages and their dependencies and it did not
help. Other Tk-software still works.

Bug#646220: debian-archive-keyring/experimental: removes all keys

2011-10-22 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: cupt
Version: 2.2.1
Severity: important
Tags: experimental
Justification: broken, but only when using other package from experimental

After updating debian-archive-keyring to the version in experimental,
cupt update produces errors like

| W: gpg:
'//var/lib/cupt/lists/http___debian.uchicago.edu_debian_dists_sid_Release':
public key 'AED4B06F473041FA' not found

The changelog says:

  * Put debian-archive-keyring.gpg into trusted.gpg.d.
  * Remove old keys from trusted.gpg upon upgrade.

so I guess this is a missing feature in cupt.

(Philipp: by the way, debian-archive-keyring's postinst does not seem
to be idempotent in the presence of intermittent errors, as when the
impatient admin presses ^C and then runs dpkg --configure -a to
resume. Changing ln -s to ln -sf would partially fix it; please
let me know if you'd like a report for this.)

Bug#646221: /sbin/route wrapper doesn't provide FreeBSD CLI as expected

2011-10-22 Thread Robert Millan
Package: openvpn
Version: 2.1.3-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

OpenVPN is mostly broken on GNU/kFreeBSD because it attempts to use /sbin/route
with FreeBSD command-line interface. /sbin/route is a compatibility wrapper
which attempts to map some functionality but is not a complete replacement
for FreeBSD route.

As a result, route management behaves unreliably (necessary routes might not be
added, and when connection is terminated stale routes are left behind).

Solution is very simple, just use /lib/freebsd/route instead which provides
the FreeBSD route command that OpenVPN expects.

Please, could you fix this problem in Sid and in Squeeze as well?

Thanks!

 Hi Tobias,

I've just applied a patch to iso-codes in Ubuntu to mark the iso-codes package
 'Multi-Arch: foreign'; this indicates, per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MultiarchSpec, that iso-codes will satisfy the
dependencies of packages of other architectures when it's installed.

Since iso-codes has shared libraries as reverse dependencies, this change is
needed in order for multiarch to be used for those libraries in practice.

Fix committed to debian/ branch. I guess Tobias will upload this with
the next release on Nov. 1st.

Bug#646227: icedove: searching for non-ascii characters in multi-part messages with iso-8859-1 encoding fails

2011-10-22 Thread Sebastian Ramacher
Package: icedove
Version: 3.1.15-1+b1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

While searching (Ctrl-F, filter message by body) for a string that contains
non-ascii characters I've noticed that it works for messages that are UTF-8
encoded and even for iso-8859-1 encoded plain text messages. But for multi-part
messages with iso-8859-1 encoding it didn't work at all.

I guess that it would also fail for any non-UTF-8 encoded multi-part mail.

Kind regards

Bug#646228: gsoapssl++ not linked to libssl.

2011-10-22 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: gsoap
Version: 2.8.3-2
Severity: serious

Hi,

It seems that /usr/lib/libgsoapssl++.so isn't linked to libssl,
but is using symbols from it. This will cause undefined
symbols when trying to link to it.

This can of course be fixed in the application by linking to -lssl,
but this shouldn't be needed.

Looking at the build log, it also always adds -lssl -lcrypto -lz
each time it's linking to that library, which shouldn't be needed
for linking to the shared library.

 Hi,
The default filtering settings of my new Internet provider are blocking SMTP
servers others than its own ones. In that configuration SSL protected STMP
runs just fine and would have been very useful.

(fortunately, I could alter this default configuration to finish my report)

Any progress about this 2007 issue ?

Nope, no progress, mainly because there's not that many requests for
it and I don't have a testing setup to use to develop this
enhancement.

reassign 637481 initramfs-tools
thanks

Since this is just a missing Conflicts for initramfs-tools, not
busybox issue, reassigning this bug to the proper package.

Maksimiliano, please add a single Conflicts: busybox (1:1.10.2-2)
to initramfs-tools.

I'm not sure if this makes sence to do so at this stage -- 1.10.2 is
very old, it is pre-squeeze... If not, fell free to close this bug.

Thanks,

/mjt

Bug#646233: emacs23-lucid: Emacs23-lucid installation fails on mipsel

2011-10-22 Thread David Kuehling
Package: emacs23-lucid
Version: 23.2+1-7
Severity: normal

On installation, emacs23-lucid aborts, pointing to the error message in
/tmp/elc_hEmQLu.log that reads:

emacs23 -q -no-site-file --no-site-file -batch -l path.el -f batch-byte-compile
apt-sources.el apt-utils.el debian-bug.el debian-el.el debian-el-loaddefs.el

Fatal error (6)

The normal emacs23 package with gtk interface installs and works. (but
I'd still want to use the lighter -lucid version if it worked)

This bug seems to be the same problem reported in debian bug #598234 for
emacs23-nox (which is tagged 'squeeze-ignore').

cheers,

David

Bug#646105: pm-utils: Dell Inspiron 4000 does not resume from pm-suspend

2011-10-22 Thread Markus Koschany
I have also installed vbetool and radeontool to check if there is a
different behaviour but couldn't find any.

After the laptop had gone succesfully in suspend mode, i pressed the
power on button to resume it and all the status LEDs came back. But
pressing the capslock button indicates the system is somehow frozen
because the LED is not changing accordingly.

I have attached my pm-suspend.log from /var/log/pm-suspend.log.

Bug#646235: developers-reference: Please keep this package up-to-date in stable

2011-10-22 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
Package: developers-reference
Version: 3.4.4
Severity: wishlist

Updates to developers-reference have no regression risk, and unlike
debian-policy, whatever it contained at the time of a stable release is
of little relevance: one really should base his work and interaction

not whatever was current when stable was released.

Please consider updating the package on stable through

Please never ever do things like that. You just broke your system. These
directories are separate for a reason.

Fortunately, there's an easy way to undo this damage:
 1) Remove /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.*/ (yes, both of them).
 2) Run update-python-modules -a, which should reconstruct these
 directories.

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

the libmp4v2 package fails to build from source on armhf (armel with

Here is a build log:
http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=mp4v2arch=armhfver=1.9.1%2Bsvn479~dfsg0-2stamp=1319080649
The crucial lines are:

 libtool: compile:  g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I./include -I./include -I. -I. -Wall
-Wformat -g -O2 -fvisibility=hidden -c src/bmff/typebmff.cpp -fPIC -DPIC -o

Building is successful with optimization disabled.
Thus adding the --disable-optimize parameter to the configure line in
debian/rules fixes the problem on that platform. But this is surely not the
perfect solution.

btw: CXXFLAGS given in debian/rules (specifically -Ox) is ignored
due to configure, I guess.

thanks for the package!

Does wake-on-LAN work if you suspend/hibernate the system?

 Ben.
Hi Ben,

I didn't use hibernate on this system before, so I cannot say whether it
worked there with lenny.

But I just tried to hibernate (to disk) in squeeze (kernel 2.6.32-5-686 with
command hibernate) and hibernate/resume worked correctly, but wake-on-LAN
does not work (like in power-off case). The LEDs at the ethernet-connector are
off and the system does not start on a magic packet.

Then I checked hibernate-ram (to ram) with the same configuration. There I
had a little problem that the video-output (just console, no X installed on
system) was not active after resume (which might be corrected by some
specific resume-hooks), but the rest of the system was operational. In
addition wake-on-LAN worked, the LEDs were active and I could resume the
system from suspend to ram with the magic packet.

So the problem occurs only when the system is powered off completely.

Bye,
Mark

Bug#646238: indicator-status-provider-telepathy: please don't try to support Telepathy without MC 5

2011-10-22 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: indicator-status-provider-telepathy
Version: 0.5.0-1
Severity: normal

If its description is accurate, the indicator-status-provider-telepathy binary
package shouldn't exist in Debian (and shouldn't have existed in Ubuntu either
for at least a couple of years) - all it's likely to do is to confuse people
who should be using the -mc5 binary package instead.

High-quality Telepathy desktop integration relies on the Account Manager and
Channel Dispatcher, of which telepathy-mission-control-5 is the reference
implementation (and to be honest, the only implementation there's ever likely
to be). If you try to have Telepathy desktop integration without using MC,
it'll probably just break things.

(Telepathy integration in Empathy and GNOME-Shell relies on MC, and the
Empathy and Shell developers have been working with Telepathy upstream
to make this possible.)

If it was up to me, indicator-status-provider-mc5 would have telepathy
in its name instead of mc5 - the fact that it uses Mission Control 5 is
an implementation detail - but you'd probably have to coordinate that with
Ubuntu.

Thanks,
S

Bug#645540: Essential package conflict between sysvinit and systemd-sysv

2011-10-22 Thread James

systemd-sysvinit can't be essential since that'd force it onto all
 systems.

I suppose, then, that implies that a virtual package - init, for instance -
would have to be marked Essential, and that both sysvinit and systemd-sysv
would have to _not_ be marked as Essential.

More generally, there are several component packages that compose a working
systemd itself, and these components will not create a working init unless
installed as a group. So then, there will also have to be some systemd virtual
package that brings together these components, and it will be this systemd
virtual package that is marked Provides: init, Conflicts: init, and
Replaces: init, and not systemd-sysv itself.

The virtual package systemd, it seems, would include:

some renamed systemd-base, which was the previous systemd package
 libpam-systemd
 libsystemd-daemon0
 libsystemd-login0
 systemd-sysv

Of course, some of the other packages, systemd-gui for instance, would be
referenced by Recommends: systemd-gui within the new systemd virtual
package.

Bug#646241: scim-gtk2-immodule: SCIM should support gtk3 now

2011-10-22 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: scim-gtk2-immodule
Version: 1.4.9-7
Severity: important

scim should support gtk3 immodule. Otherwise, it can be used only via
xim. (QT4 support is missing too.)

Are you going to do this? If not, I need to change im-config package to
use updated configuration default to keep scim useful. Let me know
maintainer's thought on this.

Oh, I am using ibus only these days. Please drop me from maintainer
with next upload.

If no one respond to this, I will ask removal of this package. This is
because, if no one is paying attention for this package, this package is
likely to become a source of security risk. As long as I get response
to this bug report, I will not do this removal request. (I am not
requesting gtk3 immodule package to keep this package alive.)

Regards,

Osamu

So I propose to do the following, in line with the other propositions.

  a) Apply the attached patch to point at
 http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/ in the spec.

I overlooked README.org, which was missing from the patch. Here is an updated
one. Comments or seconds are welcome.

Have a nice week-end,

I was too impatient. Now apt-get update finished running and it

What's the output of `apt-key list' and `ls -al /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d'

Is preventing mixed systems like this really an intended effect?

Mixed in what way?

Bug#645540: Essential package conflict between sysvinit and systemd-sysv

2011-10-22 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
]] James

Hi,

| systemd-sysvinit can't be essential since that'd force it onto all
| systems.
|
| I suppose, then, that implies that a virtual package - init, for instance
-
| would have to be marked Essential, and that both sysvinit and systemd-sysv
| would have to _not_ be marked as Essential.

A virtual package is just that, virtual. It can't be marked essential
since it only exists by virtue of being provided by other packages.
It's essentially just a synchronisation point, it's not a package in its
own right.

| More generally, there are several component packages that compose a working
| systemd itself, and these components will not create a working init unless
| installed as a group.

systemd works fine as init as long as you install systemd and boot with
init=/bin/systemd.

| So then, there will also have to be some systemd virtual
| package that brings together these components, and it will be this systemd
| virtual package that is marked Provides: init, Conflicts: init, and
| Replaces: init, and not systemd-sysv itself.

First, you're talking about a metapackage, not a virtual package.
Second, you're doing this much more complicated than it has to be,
assuming the changes in sysvinit and the rest of the system were done,
the necessary provides, conflicts and replaces would be added to
systemd-sysv.

Cheers,

Bug#646243: reportbug: CTRL+C has tremendous delay and sometimes does not execute

2011-10-22 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: reportbug
Version: 6.2.2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
I use reportbug quite a bit. This has started happening
after the GNOME 3 transition and perhaps reportbug updates as well.
This has been happening since last week.

What happens is say I want to file a report and then give some package
name and then file the reason. Sometimes at this stage, I want to
cancel the report for some reason or the other and I use CTRL+C .
Sometimes it works, sometimes it works with a delay and sometimes I
get no effect and I have no idea why it does not happen when it does
not happen.

Please lemme know if there is any more info. that is needed.
