Thanks for reporting it. Is this reproducible?

Curious,

Does it actually run as root? This being a database administration tool,
I do not see why it would require root privileges, and it should be able
to work just fine as www-data.

Thanks for your work, Marcus,

As my l10n NMU is on its way to the archive (moving one day after
another towards entering it), I suggest that your update proposal uses
it as basis instead of the current version in the archive.

That said, I think that your proposal makes sense as an attempt to
help Fabio keeping up with phpldamadmin package maintenance. Giving
him an opportunity to followup on your proposal is IMHO the best
course of action.

My suggestion would be CC'ing Fabio personnally (ie not only sending
to the BTS): some maintainers, when they have other life priorities,
tend to pay less attention, sometimes temporarily, to their BTS or
packages mails.and mailing them personnally sometimes help
grabbing their attention.

Bug#658415: [ITR] templates://golang-weekly/{golang-weekly-tools.templates}

2012-02-06 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in golang-weekly.

This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to encourage more translations of templates.

Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help
track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the
debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the
distribution.

The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and
Debian translators.

The details of the process are given in
http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/SmithDebconfReviewProcess.

I will act as the coordinator of this activity for golang-weekly.

The first step of the process is to review the debconf source
template file(s) of golang-weekly. This review will start on Friday, February
10, 2012, or
as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to
carry out this process.

All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration
with you, and, unless you explicitely ask for it, no upload nor NMU
will happen for golang-weekly.

If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this
mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a
rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so,
and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle.

Thank you for your attention.

Bug#628391: Patch for the l10n upload of hylafax

2012-02-06 Thread Christian PERRIER

Dear maintainer of hylafax,

On Sunday, January 29, 2012 I sent you a notice announcing my intent to upload a
NMU of your package to fix its pending l10n issues, after an initial
notice sent on Saturday, January 28, 2012.

We finally agreed that you would do the update yourself at the end of
the l10n update round.

That time has come.

To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU.
Please feel free to use all of it...or only the l10n part of it.

Giuseppe, please note that this patch does not take into account the
upload you made in the meantime. So it probably doesn't apply cleanly
on the current version in unstable (at least the debian/changelog changes).

The corresponding changelog is:

Bug#633472: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the mailcrypt package

2012-02-06 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of mailcrypt and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the mailcrypt Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de es fi fr it ja nl pt ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the mailcrypt package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday, February
15, 2012. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Thursday, February 02, 2012 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Tuesday, February 07, 2012 : send this notice
Wednesday, February 15, 2012 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Thursday, February 16, 2012 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Thursday, February 23, 2012 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

I always tend to give priority to maintainer uploads so I'll send you
a patch. In case you don't have time for an upload at that time, then
we'll see. But, in such cases, I reset my "radar" counter to 7 days,
which means that I wait for one week after sending the final "go"
before pinging again the maintainer. And, I even often reset it once
or twice before really nagging the maintainer again when (s)he is
obviously responsive as you are. The whole point is getting the
package uploaded at some point, not urgently..:-)

The deadline for the translation update round is Feb 12th so you
should get the final "GO" that day or the day after.

It will when I build a new 3.4.x upload (right now it's only in
experimental). That said, I am not exactly sure this is the right fix,
(which is why I said "hopefully closes:" in the changelog ;)) - maybe
#658646 has the same cause...

Can you also try the steps there and/or remove .libreoffice
(backup it please...) and see whether that fixes it?

Regards,

Rene

Package: offlineimap
Version: 6.3.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I noticed recently that the mbname file is not always generated when
running offlineimap in multithreaded mode.

More accurately, the guard in mbnames.write is too strict and the file
generation can be never called.

Removing the guard temporaly (and in a very ugly way) fixed the bug.

Seems like a synchronization issue ?

By the way, thanks for this great software!

Bug#658988: RFP: libvirt-sandbox -- API layer which facilitates the cration of application sandboxes using virtualization technology

2012-02-06 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

* Package name: libvirt-sandbox
  Version : 0.0.2
Upstream Author : Daniel P. Berrange
* URL : ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt/sandbox/
* License : LGPL-2.1
  Programming Lang: C
Description : API layer which facilitates the cration of application
sandboxes using virtualization

The libvirt-sandbox package provides an API layer on top of libvirt-gobject
which facilitates the cration of application sandboxes using virtualization
technology. An application sandbox is a virtual machine or container that
runs a single application binary, directly from the host OS filesystem.
In other words there is no separate guest operating system install to build
or manager.

One announce for libvirt-sandbox was done [1].

libvirt-sandbox was presented at Fosdem [2].

p.s.: I have not checked about dependencies required for the package.

In that case, I do not understand why you call these numbers random.

I was not aware that comprehensibility was a property of numbers.
Numbers are just numbers, there is no need to do anything with the BTS
to figure out what a number is.

   Coupled with the lack of
information about your reasoning they render your mail unparasable.

If you are referring to my manipulation, I did include the following
explanation:

This is actually a bug, see #585110.

Do you consider this as non-parsable?

Yes, it is just a bald assertation which contains no explanation about
why you believe this to be the case.

If you understood the explanation, I fail to see why you call it
non-parsable.

This issue does concern me, and I follow this guideline myself, obviously.

This is not the case, at least not in this example.

Why do you think so?

   I strongly suggest
you reexamine your communication style.

Thanks, but this will be difficult without more specific advice.

Bug#658651: lists.debian.org: violates 8BITMIME specification

I don't know how you can do this. The major case that I see is an email
containing 8bit data but that is not MIME. Since the message is not
MIME, it does not contain a Content-Type header. The default content
type is therefore "text/plain; charset=us-ascii". However, since the
message contains 8bit data, it is obviously not ASCII. How is the mail
server to determine the proper character set?[0] If a character set is
not provided, the data are useless since they cannot be displayed
reliably. Guessing character sets has proven to be a bad idea in
general.

Omitting the charset parameter in a synthesized Content-Type: text/plain
header would result in it being valid MIME, but since the default
charset is us-ascii, the data would still be useless.

> 2) We follow Postel's law and resend the message since it can actually

I just want to point out that even debian-security-announce sometimes
has 8bit non-MIME messages, so you might want to take announce lists
into account when scoring. Many of the invalid messages appear to be
legitimate email for the lists. Some are clearly spam. The issue is
using the protocol correctly, not stopping spam (although that is a
pleasant side effect).

Of course, this alternative still sends invalid data, so you'll continue
to get SMTP rejects. This also would not fix this bug.

There are also a few other alternatives:

3) Do not accept 8bit messages that are not MIME. This will catch a
decent amount of spam, IME. It also forces the sender to fix his/her
mail setup. This makes generating Content-Type headers (and charset
parameters) the job of the sending MUA, which is the only place which
can possibly know the charset for certain.

4) Accept and silently discard 8bit messages that are not MIME. This is
probably not an acceptable alternative, but I proposed it for
completeness.

[0] Distinguishing between the ISO-8859 variants requires language
analysis of the text in order to get a reasonable guess and even then
distinguishing ISO-8859-1 and ISO-8859-15 may just not be possible for a
non-human.

Have access now.
Marked this critical as system becomes unavailable

There will be no nm-tool logs. I can't produce them from nonworking system,
and network-manager running cuts off all access except emergency console.

expected behaviour:
1. network-manager not being a dependency. (it's desktop-only software, no
business on a server, even one that has a graphical desktop sometimes)
2. it should not touch operational interfaces.
3. it should ask before restarting on an ssh-based connection. And it should
accept 'no' as an answer.

Actual behaviour:
1. it's a dependency that's automatically installed for a number of packages
2. it gives no warning or time to respond before it wipes out the network
configuration.

After this log I'm purging it again.
Is there a way to permanently blacklist it from install?

The con-apt is debian specific, so the files are always in fixed

   /usr/share/doc/cron-apt/README.gz

Bug#658593: pymvpa2: FTBFS with Sphinx 1.1.2: ValueError: too many values to unpack

2012-02-06 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
since "tomorrow" has passed and I haven't pushed yet:

upgrade to use sphinx's 1.1 autosummary didn't go that smooth -- I could be
wrong but imho there is a regression in how autosummary/generate.py behaves --
imho now sphinx-autogen doesn't behave as it should have. Here is the
post I have sent to sphinx-dev which for some reason (moderation?) was not yet
posted -- so I think that tomorrow I will just revert to patching our local
copy for now:

|
| Hi to everyone and Georg and Pauli in particular ;)
|
| Was trying to address a bug against our software (PyMVPA) in Debian so

| Looking into the sphinx code I saw refactoring in

Which? None. No outputs are audible, so far as I can tell. The
'pavucontrol' streams still work, the meter goes up and down to the
silent music.

On the good kernel (3.1.0-1) sound plays through the (separately
powered) speakers plugged into the back of the PC case; when I plug the
headphones in a different jack on the front of the case, the speakers
turn off, and the headphone sound goes on.

On the silent kernel (3.2.0-1), there's no sound from headphones or
speaker, and the headphones being plugged and unplugged has no audible
effect on either speakers or headphones.

On the good kernel (3.1.0-1), this happens:

% amixer -c0 set "Auto-Mute Mode" Disabled ; echo $?
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0

1

Haven't tried that 'amixer' command on the silent kernel (3.2.0-1).

Thanks for the detailed walk-through. So far I tested vanilla Linux
v3.2 as bad, v3.1 as good, and started the bisect (with the first
half-way commit tested as bad). That means “roughly 12 steps” to go.

I will report back when the upstream bug report is filed.

I can spell it out but then this will be distribution specific (which

That's an interesting read on the problem. That does look like it could
be the explanation since in both cases one package satisfying the ORed
relationship is being kept (cups-client and xserver-xorg-video-fbdev).

I've dropped the severity accordingly, but I'm still not convinced this
isn't a bug in terms of meeting user expectations.

Maybe my expectations are just biased based on the other package
management tools I've used in Debian. I've understood the "auto"
flag to mean the package is satisfying a strong relationship and can be
removed when the package(s) declaring those relationships have been
removed. I can see how, from a package management tool perspective, it
makes things easier to take the stricter stance that I'm now seeing in
cupt, though.

Bug#657828: Re: [ibus-devel] Prepare ibus 1.4.1

2012-02-06 Thread Takao Fujiwara
I think It is no problem to add the subdir of the package name in
libexec file paths. However probably I don't think to add the subdir
of arch names for ibus-ui-gtk* at present. I might think
@PACKAGE@-@MAJOR_VERSION@ instead of pkglibexecdir if we would add the
subdir.
It might be an idea to move all arch depended files into /usr/lib*

I think it's often happened to change the file paths using configure
options in many distributions.

It won't hurt, but I'm skeptical we'll be able to make PIE the default.
Not only does it break all add-on modules that don't use libtool but pass
linker flags directly to the build (affecting not only Perl but also
Python, PHP, etc.; I tested with remctl just to see what would happen, and
it pretty much broke all the interpretor build systems), but I've had it
just break otherwise normal code. gnubg, for example, will immediately
die with "Killed" if built with PIE. (I didn't investigate further, since
gnubg is not the sort of program that has much security exposure.)

I've updated the package, but it's again middle of the night when I
tend to make mistakes. Waiting for your feedback if it makes VLC compile
cleanly or not. I'll update the debian/rules clean target, but that
should not affect you. If your feedback is positive, I'll upload this

Bug#658985: hardinfo: benchmark graphic bar lengths confusing and undocumented.

2012-02-06 Thread A. Costa
Package: hardinfo
Version: 0.5.1-1.2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I ran the FPU-Raytracing benchmark, which displayed:

Results CPU CPU clock
54.16 This Machine2400 MHZ
40.88 Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.50GHz
161.31 PowerPC 740/750 (280.00MHz)
...
Results in seconds. Lower is better.

The numbers under results are displayed on equal lengths of gray
background, with overlaid blue bars seemingly represeting the
individual number proportions relative to some constant whole. See
attached '.PNG' file.

The 54 has a 9/10 blue/gray bar.
The 40 is all blue.
the 161 is 1/5 blue.

It's not obvious what the blue/gray bar proportions represent, nor if
these graphic ratios are even intentional.

The graphical meaning of the blue bars is not documented in the package, nor
in the online-only help.

Hope this helps...

I don't see a bug here. You only need one video DDX package to satisfy
the dependency by xserver-xorg, so presumably you will want to do

cupt unmarkauto xserver-xorg-video-i128
cupt unmarkauto xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
... etc ...

to indicate that these packages are not installed just to satisfy a
dependency but because you want them.

That said, an alternative "auto"-like state meaning "Please remove
this package once no installed package Depends on, Recommends, or
Suggests it" might be interesting. That way, when a package loses a
Suggests, it could be possible to automatically remove the
corresponding cruft.

What do you think?

as one of the maintainers of qemu, i'd prefer to not have ipxe-qemu ship the

a new upload of ipxe.

it's not much of a burden for qemu to have a versioned dependency to ensure the

Hi again,

All right --- that's useful to know. Of course I was not suggesting
this as a workaround but as a diagnostic tool.

Can you reproduce this result without that script? Like so:

modprobe -r ehci_hcd
modprobe -r xhci_hcd
echo disk >/sys/power/state
modprobe ehci_hcd
modprobe xhci_hcd

If so, could you also try unloading/loading only one of the two drivers to
see which one is the culprit?

Please attach "acpidump" output (so we can learn about the BIOS) and
full "dmesg" output from booting and successfully hibernating/resuming
in the "platform" mode with USB drivers unloaded (which will tell us
many things).

Thanks and sorry for the trouble,
Jonathan

Bug#658977: rhythmbox: crashes when re-checking an option in the preference pane

Dear Maintainer,

Opening the preference pane in rhythmbox and then checking the "Watch my

causes the program to crash every time for me. When it starts back up again,
the option is thankfully enabled.

No problem. I looked into the conffile issue a bit further and I think
that the dpkg-maintscript documentation needs to be changed. I filed
 where you can
find a brief description of the issue; in summary, I think you should
set the 'lastversion' to 1.7.3-7~ in the next revision of the package
(assuming that the next revision will be 1.7.3-7 of course). The
existing documentation would suggest you use 1.7.3-6, but this causes
the conffile removal code to be skipped in the case of a user rebuilding
the package with a local version number: the user would be upgrading
from 1.7.3-6local1, which is greater than 1.7.3-6 and therefore
rm_conffile thinks that it doesn't need to do anything. Any possible
(sane) local version number is guaranteed to be << 1.7.3-7~ however, and
so that version number is safe to use when invoking rm_conffile.

Regards,

Bug#658778: Suspend from X session hangs Asus laptop.

2012-02-06 Thread Boris Barbour
Thanks for the quick reply, Jonathan.

> Is this a regression?

Not really (the machine is new). I tried older debian 5.09 and 6.03 live cds.
With 6.03 suspending from a session worked under some conditions (lid) but not
all (menu).

> Does suspend-to-disk
> (triggered with
>
> echo disk >/sys/power/state

This doesn't work.

> ) work? If you have time to follow the instructions from
> basic-pm-debugging.txt[1] to narrow down the cause, that would be very
> useful.

Thanks for the pointer! For some reason I didn't find it while searching
around (we beginners don't know to search for "pm-" instead of "suspend").
Maybe a link could be added on the debian wiki at
http://wiki.debian.org/Suspend ? The "shutdown" method described in the
document seems to work. But it is a bit clunky and it wasn't immediately
obvious how to set this option permanently or whether it even applies to
suspend to RAM (more for the wiki...)

In the meantime I found the following site

http://thecodecentral.com/2011/01/18/fix-ubuntu-10-10-suspendhibernate-not-
working-bug

and shamelessly copy-pasted the suggested script. It works pretty well - the
only obvious problem at the moment is that waking from sleep requires a press
of the power button (lid-opening doesn't suffice). But at least there is no
freeze with data loss and reboot. Huge progress.

The working "shutdown" method suggests a bios issue and the copied script
indicates a usb problem. Follow up might therefore look at the usb settings in
the bios and investigate a bios upgrade (the changelog mumbles something about
usb).

The comments on the web site suggest that the solution has helped a lot of
people and with different machines.

Thanks and best wishes,

Boris

Bug#658971: lintian: exits 1 without any policy violations/errors/warnings checking epoptes

2012-02-06 Thread Jakub Wilk

* Vagrant Cascadian , 2012-02-06, 16:28:
since epoptes 0.3.2, lintian will exit 1 when checking epoptes, but
produces no policy violations or other warnings or errors... you can
download the .dsc from your favorite debian mirror, and:

lintian epoptes_0.4.2-1.dsc ; echo $?
1

Apparently this is because of this tag, which would be an error if it
weren't experimental:

X: epoptes source: python-depends-but-no-python-helper epoptes epoptes-client

(Also, it's a false positive.)

So it's probably a bug in lintian, which was latent until very recently,
because we hadn't tags with such property.

Package: tar
Essential: yes
Status: install ok installed
Priority: required
Section: utils

Maintainer: Bdale Garbee
Architecture: amd64
Version: 1.23-3

I do incremental backup.

tar czvf /test/inc.tar.gzip -g test/ds.inc --same-owner --exclude=test /

the snart file(ds.inc) has ~17MB like below and tar interrupts with
segmentation fault.

17M 02-06 22:52 ds.inc

If the ds.inc has about ~7-8MB tar works fine.

Hi,

For cross-compiling with multi-arch, we need to set up Multi-Arch: foreign
for Arch: all packages. This is slightly counter-intuitive, but explained at

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MultiarchSpec#Dependencies_involving_Architecture:_all_packages

Bug#423458: dnscap packaged

2012-02-06 Thread Andrew Ruthven
Hello,

In April 2010 a colleague of mine created a dnscap Debian package for
use on a client's system. I've just picked it up and cleaned it up a
bit further and started pondering uploading it to Debian.

Part of the pondering was to check BTS. Good thing Francois checked, as
he found this RFP!

We're using our package in production, it is Lintian clean (except for
one warning about the manpage).

Our git repo for dnscap is here:

  http://git.catalyst.net.nz/dnscap.git

I'm waiting for a minor update to a patch we're carrying, then we can
upload it to unstable.

Cheers!

Bug#658972: deborphan: Needs to show arch in multiarch setup

2012-02-06 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: deborphan
Version: 1.7.28.5
Severity: normal

Hello,

I have played a bit with multiarch support, and I ended up with

€ deborphan
libmudflap0
libmudflap0

Indeed, I have libmudflap0 both i386- and amd64-archs installed and they
are orphans. deborphan should print something like

€ deborphan
libmudflap0
libmudflap0:i386

It'll probably need to ask dpkg for the foreign archs (dpkg
--print-foreign-architectures)

Bug#658644: response re:NMU for 658644

* Scott Howard , 2012-02-06, 00:22:

+ * use dh_python2 since python-support is deprecated (cleaning up
+lintian error)

This is not appropriate for an NMU.

For now I have no problem shrinking it down and taking care of the rest
at a later time. Would adding a dependency on python-support (to fix
the lintian error) be appropriate in this NMU or should I stick to just
RC bugs?

What are the practical consequences of the missing dependency?

But in any case, adding ${python:Depends} to Depends probably wouldn't
hurt.

Also, would you care to justify such short delay[0] and urgency=high?
Fixing two RC bugs that are older than 7 days, thus the short delay and
high urgency. from devref §5.11.1

Err. What §5.11.1 actually says about delays for uploads fixing RC bugs:

"Upload fixing only release-critical bugs older than 7 days, with no
maintainer activity on the bug for 7 days and no indication that a fix
is in progress: 0 days

Upload fixing only release-critical bugs older than 7 days: 2 days

Upload fixing only release-critical and important bugs: 5 days"

Neither of these applies to your upload.

Also, this section doesn't say anything about urgency.

They are completely incomprehensibe in and of themselves, one needs to
go find the BTS to figure out what they are. Coupled with the lack of
information about your reasoning they render your mail unparasable.

Yes, it is just a bald assertation which contains no explanation about
why you believe this to be the case. There's no reference to the
contents of any of the bugs nor discussion of their similarities (and
honestly none of your followups leave me any the wiser).

> This issue does concern me, and I follow this guideline myself, obviously.

This is not the case, at least not in this example. I strongly suggest
you reexamine your communication style.

Anyway, fortunately it seems my revert was unneeded as your mails to
control don't seem to have taken effect.

Bug#646173: Typos found while translating the po4a documentation into German

Both: the key words are “no empty line”, since po4a uses empty lines to
split paragraphs, if I understood correctly. Maybe another “before”
could make the sentence a little bit more explicit.

Anyway, I guess a simple test can illustrate the issue, see the attached
file (and how broken it is in the first place when opened with perldoc
anyway, so maybe the end of the sentence should simply be dropped), and
the resulted PO file:

po4a-gettextize -f pod -m foo.pod -p foo.pot

Bug#658970: wine: new upstream release

2012-02-06 Thread Aron Xu
Package: src:wine
Severity: wishlist

Debian's wine package has stayed at upstream 1.0.1 for quite a long
time, I wish to see some updates of this package.

In my humble opinion, it's better to adapt to Ubuntu's packaging
strategy on wine packages and ask them to join, rather than staying at
an old version without upstream support.

Bug#584073: SOGo packaging update

2012-02-06 Thread Jeroen Dekkers
This is an update I just sent to the SOGo list:

I've just submitted some of the patches I created that fixes some
issues that would prevent SOGo from getting into Debian. I've pushed
my current work for 1.3.11 to github:
https://github.com/dekkers/sope-debian
https://github.com/dekkers/sogo-debian

I'm using git-buildpackage to build the packages. Things that still
need to be done:

- I've patched SOPE to be able to use GnuTLS, but not SOGo yet. SOGo
is a bit harder because GnuTLS doesn't provide a drop-in replacement
for checking of S/MIME signatures. I don't know how much used this
feature is, disabling the S/MIME signature checking might also be an
  option.

- SOGo needs to use /etc for configuration
  (http://sogo.nu/bugs/view.php?id=1156). I did some experimentation
with GNUstep and SOGo defaults and concluded that it isn't that
hard, but I still need to code and test such a patch.

- We should use debconf to ask where to find the SQL and LDAP
  databases.

- A DEP5-complaint (http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep5) debian/copyright
  file needs to be created.

- The bundled javascript libraries need to be unbundled and the
libraries from the Debian packages need to be used instead.

And there might be more things I'm forgetting and this is just for
SOGo 1.3. For SOGo 2.0 there is even a lot more work to be done. I
currently don't have much time to work on this as I'm too busy with
things that pay the rent or will do so in the future, so any help is
more than welcome.

There are a few reasonable alternatives:

1) We fix the mail to be proper 8 bit mime
2) We follow Postel's law and resend the message since it can actually
be understood, possibly adding to the spam score if the message
appears to be 8bitmime but isn't actually a valid mime message.

For those following along at home who wish to do 1, ldo uses postfix,
not exim.

Thanks for reopening. I am creating a new version, with new upstream
included, which hopefully it will be uploaded soon. I expect to fix
the issue now, and also remove the /etc/OGRE-1.7.3/plugins.cfg for the
version that it was shipped.

Actually the problem are the many concurrent issues that I'm trying to
fix at once, so I forgot about testing this properly before uploading,
my bad.

Yep, thanks for spotting that too.

I thought about putting something in NEWS if I receive some
indication/complaint from clients. Since at the moment there are
virtually no packages depending on OGRE, maybe it's just not
necessary.

Cheers.

Bug#647522: non-deterministic compression for CREDITS.gz in libppl9 amd64 & kfreebsd-amd64

The broken CREDITS.gz was created with gzip 1.4 from Debian unstable. I
happened to use 1.3.12 to test on a different armel machine but the
whole problem with this bug is that it is non-deterministic and simply
repeating the compression can "fix" the apparent problem.

I added the extra information because the two versions of CREDITS.gz
are available via the packages specified, so rather than having to rely
on my own debug information, there is the opportunity to view/analyse
the actual .gz files involved in a situation where the checksums can be
checked and validated and the build logs exist so that the actual
version of gzip installed can be checked too.

gzip: already installed (1.4-1)
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=ppl&arch=armel&ver=0.11.2-6&stamp=1318428664

For comparison, the i386 build used the same version of gzip on the
same file and gave a different .gz file:
i386:
99e2b9f8972ce00cfe57e3735881015e usr/share/doc/libppl9/CREDITS.gz
armel:
0e52e84eebf41588865742edaff7b3c0 usr/share/doc/libppl9/CREDITS.gz

i386 log:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=ppl&arch=i386&ver=0.11.2-6&stamp=1318344010

More examples may well turn up soon as more people install the
MultiArch-aware version of dpkg which allows packages to be alongside
each other. This assumes and requires that files compressed on one
architecture are the same as the same file compressed on a different
architecture. It is quite possible that the bug in gzip is independent
of the architecture itself but that is how all of these issues are going
to show up.

Indeed, a quick check shows that this is not architecture-specific. The
kfreebsd-amd64 log shows that CREDITS.gz is a larger file than
linux-amd64:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=ppl&arch=kfreebsd-amd64&ver=0.11.2-6&stamp=1318348840

kfreebsd-amd64:
6344 2011-02-27 09:07 ./usr/share/doc/libppl9/CREDITS.gz

linux-amd64:
6343 2011-02-27 09:07 ./usr/share/doc/libppl9/CREDITS.gz

http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/ppl/libppl9_0.11.2-6_kfreebsd-amd64.deb

0e52e84eebf41588865742edaff7b3c0 usr/share/doc/libppl9/CREDITS.gz

Same as armel but different to armhf, i386 and amd64.

I see no reason why a change of kernel or of gcc compiler flags for the
same version of gzip (all 1.4) would cause such non-deterministic
results from using gzip -9n

There is something else going on here, something internal to gzip which
is changing certain bytes inside the compressed file - in the same
manner. It is strange indeed for four separate machines to produce two
matching pairs of the same discrepancy when running the same code.

Ignore my tests with an older version of gzip - these results are all
with gzip 1.4-1. It doesn't matter if I decompress/recompress on amd64
or armel, the discrepancy goes away. The problem is that we cannot
anticipate when the discrepancy will occur, leading to packages failing
to install in random and unpredictable patterns.

This bug is going to be hard to reproduce but the results of it are
neither architecture dependent nor version dependent. Interestingly,
other text files in the same package, compressed on the same machine,
using the same options to gzip, do not differ. It's the peculiar
requirements of MultiArch which have brought this to light and in the
majority of cases the results of gzip -9n on the same file are
identical - but not always.

Bug#658969: please add Multi-Arch: foreign stanza to dh-autoreconf

Hi,

For cross-compiling with multi-arch, we need to set up Multi-Arch: foreign
for Arch: all packages. This slightly counter-intuitive is explained at

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MultiarchSpec#Dependencies_involving_Architecture:_all_packages

But the crux is the we need he multi-arch foreign field so that apt knows that
it can use
foreign for packages for dh-autoreconf dependencies, specifically perl.

Bug#565294: Merge

My mail contained 2 numbers, 565294 and 585110.
565294 is the number of this issue report.
585110 is the number of a duplicate issue report which you can see
on http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=585110

Yes, I had worked out that they were bug numbers. Thanks for that.

In that case, I do not understand why you call these numbers random.

If you still do not understand any number, it would be preferable to
request an explanation than to write random comments.

I tend to put about as much effort in as I'm seeing in the thing I'm
responding to; what I saw was a drive by tweak of some bugs with no
parsable explanation.

If you are referring to my manipulation, I did include the following
explanation:

This is actually a bug, see #585110.

Do you consider this as non-parsable?

Frankly I could barely tell if this was
intentional, it looked like a script gone wrong.

If a script has gone wrong, commenting its actions with something random
is unlikely to help fix the problem.

   The
bugs don't appear to be the same bug at all, the one bug is talking
about adding an icon and the other bug is talking about the information
that's present not being correct.

The first bug is not talking about adding an icon, it is reporting
that the icon is missing. Both reports are about the same problem,

In what way? Simply asserting something doesn't make it true. The
report makes no mention of icons whatsover. It does mention errors in
the type field, and other errors in the existing content, but doesn't
appear to have anything to say about having an icon.

By "first bug", I meant #565294, not #585110.

the former describes the symptom, while the latter describes the
cause (or, perhaps more accurately, a different symptom which makes
the cause obvious).

Again, this appears to bear little if any relation to the contents of
the bug.

I don't know which "bug" you are referring to.

By the way, when manipulating issue reports, please explain your
modifications if they have no obvious justification, in particular
when changing the report type.

If this is an issue which concerns you it might be worth taking your own
advice on board.

This issue does concern me, and I follow this guideline myself, obviously.

Bug#591459: [Pkg-ime-devel] Processed: unarchiving 591459

Good morning,

sorry for not following immediately the unarchiving by a better explanation; I
went to sleep first ;)

I would like to re-open this bug. I think that ibus-xkbc may be
a temporary workaround, but it is definitely not a solution.

 1) Ibus is still broken as it does not support the compose key
natively. Can you imagine if we would need a module for
the shift key ?

 2) If Ibus becomes the recommended input manager in GNOME3, then
the loss of transparent support for the compose key is a regression
compared with previous from GNOME2 plus default input manager.

 3) ibus-xkbc is a keyboard layout switching module whose functionality is
redundant with X.org's layout switching (well supported by the GNOME shell).
Keyboard layouts and input systems are two different things operated
independantly. I switch between Japanese and Canadian layouts, and
within this or that layout, I switch input methods when I need to
type Japanese. Under the ibus-xkbc, this is more complicated.

 4) I think that it is fair to expect from input systems that,
when no input method is selected, the keyboard behaves exactly
the same as when the input system is not running.

Unless it becomes easy to replace Ibus on GNOME3, and for the
moment I have the impression that UIM is not so well integrated,
or unless the Ibus developers have decided upstream to never
support the compose key directly, I think that the current situation
is bug a that should be reflected in our BTS.

I have added my voice to the other users asking for a better support of the
compose key in the upstream BTS as well.
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=526#c43

I hope that this can be somehow resolved before Wheezy, and that it can be as
simple to work in a multilingual configuration on Debian as it was before.

Have a nice day,

Bug#658968: debian-installer: permits install with out configuring root password

2012-02-06 Thread Sam
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal
Tags: d-i

Debian installer will allow you to complete an install without ever visiting
the configure users section and no warning. This will result in a system
installed with no way to log in except booting with init=/bin/sh

I would suggest that there be a warning, and perhaps have NO password for root
under this situation rather than root:*: in shadow -- the warning would be
particularly nice, as I had begun an install in a location that has slow access
and I can not stay at for an extended period of time and enabled the remote-ssh
method to continue. when I resumed, I thought I had already visited the users
section but had not. I found this out after I rebooted, which resulted in the
necessity of scheduling another trip to the location simply to set a root
password and allow logins to the system.

I'm happy to wait till you give the all-clear that all the fresh
translations are in.

I can do the upload then, but I'm happy for you to make an NMU too if
that's more efficient.

Thanks,

Bug#658478:

2012-02-06 Thread Jeff Breidenbach
 Statement from Sikuli upstream

Sikuli has an experimental tesseract 3 branch
https://github.com/sikuli/sikuli/tree/feature/tesseract3.
The main reason we aren't not switching to tesseract 3 in an official
release is that its recognition performance is worse than 2.04 in our
dataset.
(Not very bad, about 10% worse as I recall.)
So I think it's fine to wrap the tesseract 3 branch for Debian sid.

Bug#658402: [phpmyadmin] Please display "Show all" button by default

2012-02-06 Thread Filipus Klutiero

On 2012-02-06 03:57, Thijs Kinkhorst wrote:

On Thu, February 2, 2012 19:18, Filipus Klutiero wrote:

Package: phpmyadmin
Version: 4:3.4.9-1
Severity: wishlist

It is currently painful to show all records in a table. One needs to
look at the number of rows, enter that number in the field which asks
the number of rows to show, then reset the starting row to 0 and press
enter.

There is actually a "Show all" button to do just that, the problem is
that the button does not show by default. A configuration option needs
to be enabled:
$cfg['ShowAll'] boolean
Defines whether a user should be displayed a "show all (rows)" button in
browse mode or not.
http://www.phpmyadmin.net/documentation/

This option is disabled by default.

This was requested upstream, but Marc Delisle rejected, asking to be
trusted:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=377411&aid=3476721&group_id=23067

It's better to be safe than sorry. Showing all rows on any table of
serious size can have grave consequences on MySQL server, web server (and
the client). Having a button by default means you can easily cause trouble
on your database server just by misclicking.

That depends on what the button does. If it instantly queries, then it's
as you say. However, if there is a validation on the button, like a
JavaScript popup as described in
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=377411&aid=3476721&group_id=23067
, then such a mistake can be made as hard to make as we deem necessary.

Of course there are many
tables where showing all rows is safe and as you say there are options to
do that already (enter any sufficiëntly high number in the 'rows to show'
box as you say, or executing SELECT * FROM table). And you can also enable
the setting.

I think it's a sane default as it is. Michal, only thing: could you
perhaps extend the description of that boolean option a bit to explain the
why and the consequences?

That would be a nice start. It may not be useful in the end if the
option is eliminated (if the Show all button is perfected enough, I do
not see why keeping an option to disable it would be necessary). But
meanwhile, it would clarify what's needed to get there.

Note that this report is not saying the current default for the option
is insane. It may well be the best default given the way Show all works
currently. All I'm asking is get the Show all button to display by
default (which does not exclude displaying it unconditionally). The
button may require improvement for such a change to be reasonable to make.

Ha-ha !
For some time I expected this one to pop up in Debian, and finally it did :)

(I don't use this one myself, but I definitely appreciate it, and it's
good, that VirtualBox does more inroad into the server market.)

Versions:
To minimize confusion, I think it might be better to keep only one
version in Debian "main" -- the one that matches VirtualBox. (Surely I
read that 4.0 can manage non-Debian VBox servers, just doubt about the
need to support several versions in Debian. I would submit only
something that matches Debian's VBox (4.1) to Debian, and keep older
(4.0) packages off-tree)

How can I download your proposed package (executable + src) ?

please get in touch with Debian's Virtualbox maintainers. They might
consider sponsoring you.

Thanks Arno.

I tried that some days ago, but didn't get an answer (but a week is not
that long).
Unfortuantly, I cannot find a link to the mailinglist archive for
pkg-virtualbox-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org

Anyway, here is what I've written on January 30th:
"
Hello Debian vb team,

I have started debianizing phpvirtualbox [0] for my own needs and hope
this is the right place to bring it up.

Please guide me if I'm wrong.

I use it on a headless server and feel very comfortable with it, so I
think it might be useful for other users, too
and it should enter the Debian package pool. The version I started with
is phpvirtualbox-4.0 which applies
to vb 4.0 installations only (4.0.x and 4.1.y are not forcefully API
compatible).

Phpldapadmin served as an example and dh_make was used to create the
deb-package source [1].
I have tested the build with dpkg-buildpackage and run through the
install/remove/purge tests as proposed in the

deb maintainers guide.

I'm not a DM. This is my first attempt to package something for Debian.
I can afford some time to package 4.1, too.

Please let me know if there are any chances to get this into Debian or
if I broke any rules.

Kind regards,
Marcus

Right now : not accessible, system is located a fair distance away. Will post
later when I can get physical access. System is offline until then.
Note: all IPs are static in /etc/network/interfaces. I can't post it because
system is not currently accessible.

Final lines on ssh log: (copied by hand)
Disabling interfaces configured with plain DHCP in /etc/network/interfaces so
that NetworkManager can take them over
Auto interfaces found: lo eth1 eth1 tun6to4

Bug#658366: synergy: when clipboard include text copied from NX client, cursor move from server to client causes segfault

2012-02-06 Thread Jeff Licquia
The log file didn't appear to make it; I have just a blank file, as does
the Debian BTS.

I recently uploaded synergy 1.4.5-1 to experimental. Does using that
help? (possibly with 1.4.x on the Mac as well)

Yes, I had worked out that they were bug numbers. Thanks for that.

I tend to put about as much effort in as I'm seeing in the thing I'm
responding to; what I saw was a drive by tweak of some bugs with no
parsable explanation. Frankly I could barely tell if this was
intentional, it looked like a script gone wrong. There was no analysis,
no explanation and for bonus fun points not even a mention of what
either of the bugs is (which is not enormously helpful when one doesn't
have a web browser to hand).

In what way? Simply asserting something doesn't make it true. The
report makes no mention of icons whatsover. It does mention errors in
the type field, and other errors in the existing content, but doesn't
appear to have anything to say about having an icon.

Again, this appears to bear little if any relation to the contents of
the bug.

If this is an issue which concerns you it might be worth taking your own
advice on board.

I don't know enough about perl to replace the use of newgetopt.pl by
server-src/amstatus.pl in amanda with the recommended Getopt::Long. I
would be happy to accept a patch that implements the change, however, if
someone who knows more about perl is willing to create such a patch for
me?

Thanks for testing (and reminding me of it). I've contacted upstream and
we'll cover this some time. The fix isn't hard to do anyways.

I hope I'll be able to properly test php-openid soon with php5.4.

Thank you for pointing out this.

The only difference among the arch-specific copies is just a comment,
then re-generating the header at buld time is unnecessary at all.
I'll upload a patch to sid soon.

Cheers!

Bug#658252: libcairo2: Text quickly becomes rectangles

Hi,

Sorry, this keeps changing. The rectangles are back, so I suppose this
is still a live issue. I haven't tried re-compiling pidgin yet since my
latest round of updates. Any advice would be useful. At the moment
some of the text is replaced with rectangles but not all of it, so the
program is usable, ish.

Bug#600054: Please backport to squeeze

2012-02-06 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello:

After some time wondering why domain ip is not refreshed properly I came
accross this bug. My small server runs ddclient for no-ip.com and I've also
bump
into this.

I'm now checking wether the proposed patch works on my system, according to
the bug report Im positive it'll do. Meanwhile I would really appreciate if you
consider backporting the fix to squeeze, otherwise the package would be mostly
unusable on the explained conditions.

Thanks for caring about this packaging and providing solutions for problems
like this.
