Bug#658994: mirror submission for mirror.digitalone.com

2012-02-11 Thread Raphael Geissert
Hi,

Thank you for mirroring Debian. Before your mirror can be included, there are
some issues that need to be fixed:

On Tuesday 07 February 2012 02:36:27 you wrote:
> Site: mirror.digitalone.com

The mirror appears to also include armhf and s390x. Are those intended to be
mirrored and should therefore be listed too?

> Archive-http: /debian/
> IPv6: no
> Archive-upstream: ftp.us.debian.org

Please choose one of the mirrors in the DNS RR instead of mirroring from
ftp.us.debian.org.

> Updates: once
> Maintainer: Serg Nikolaev
> Country: US United States
> Location: Reston, US
> Sponsor: DigitalOne AG http://www.digitalone.com/

What's the available bandwidth for the mirror?

Other issues:
* It appears to be out of date: according to the trace file the last sync was
on "Tue Feb 7 06:29:42 UTC 2012."
* It uses an out of date version of the ftpsync scripts. Please update to the
latest version. Some index files are synced too soon otherwise.

Could you please address all the above points and get back to us?

Kind regards,

Dear all,

I have tested today's build of Debian-Installer, and the bug is still there.

To summarise:

 - On that machine, the drive's name is /dev/xvda1.
 - Partman handles this by making partitions called /dev/xvda1p1 /dev/xvda1p2
/dev/xvda1p5
 - The installation then fails as there are no such devices.

Have a nice Sunday,

Bug#653897: cacti: General update after the debconf review process

2012-02-11 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Thursday, January 05, 2012, I sent you a notification about the beginning of
a review
action on debconf templates for cacti.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Thursday, January 05, 2012. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Bug#659566: mysql-client-5.5: Cmake options to use the system's readline library

2012-02-11 Thread Guillaume Plessis
Package: mysql-client-5.5
Version: 5.5.17-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The transition from autotools to cmake for MySQL 5.5 led to changes in
the enable-by-default features, including readline linking of the mysql
client.

To make sure that MySQL 5.5 has the same features as MySQL 5.1, cmake
options have to be changed so that the MySQL client uses the system's
readline library instead of the bundled editline wrapper (a patch is
attached)

Bug#659562: Changes from longterm 2.6.32.56

2012-02-11 Thread Ben Hutchings
Package: src:linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-41
Severity: important

- eCryptfs: Sanitize write counts of /dev/ecryptfs

Limits the size of message writeable to this filesystem control device.
A large message could otherwise result in OOM. I don't think this is
much of a security issue as access to the control device is already
privileged.

- ecryptfs: Improve metadata read failure logging

Logging improvement, may aid recovery from filesystem damage.

- eCryptfs: Make truncate path killable

Allows a task truncating or extending a file on encrypts to be killed
(with signal 9, SIGKILL). Currently this may be a lengthy and
uninterruptible operation, hence a potential DoS.

- drm: Fix authentication kernel crash

Fixes use-after-free, possibly exploitable for privilege escalation.

- crypto: sha512 - make it work, undo percpu message schedule
- crypto: sha512 - reduce stack usage to safe number

SHA-512 normally requires substantial temporary space, which was
allocated per-CPU. This is safe iff the function is not reentrant.
However, since it can actually be used in both process context and in
soft-interrupt context, this may result in incorrect hashes and
consequent data loss.

These changes replace the per-CPU space with a smaller space on the
stack. However, gcc still allocates a lot of stack space on 32-bit
machines, so this requires an additional fix.

- Revert "ARM: 7220/1: mmc: mmci: Fixup error handling for dma"

This has no effect on Debian configurations.

- block: fail SCSI passthrough ioctls on partition devices
- dm: do not forward ioctls from logical volumes to the underlying device

The rest of the fix for CVE-2011-4127, which we already have.

- USB: ftdi_sio: fix TIOCSSERIAL baud_base handling

Rejects an invalid setting for this serial driver. It looks like the
invalid setting would in any case be ignored, so I'm not sure why this
is important.

- USB: ftdi_sio: add PID for TI XDS100v2 / BeagleBone A3
- USB: serial: ftdi additional IDs
- USB: ftdi_sio: Add more identifiers

New hardware support.

- USB: cdc-wdm: updating desc->length must be protected by spin_lock

Fixes part of a data race in this driver, used for some USB-connected
cellular modems (and phones acting as modems), which would lead to
corruption of received data. It doesn't appear to fix the whole
problem, though.

- usb: io_ti: Make edge_remove_sysfs_attrs the port_remove method.

Fixes memory leak on removal of this device (or it might result in a
crash, but I don't think so).

- USB: usbsevseg: fix max length

Adds support for a new variant of the USB seven-segment displays using
longer packets.

- hwmon: (f71805f) Fix clamping of temperature limits

Fixes handling of temperature limit settings that are outside the
hardware range. Previously they would be replaced with 0, which could
potentially trigger the system to shut down.

- hwmon: (sht15) fix bad error code

This driver would leak memory if loaded on a system that did not
specifically support it, and would crash if then removed.

- USB: serial: CP210x: Added USB-ID for the Link Instruments MSO-19

New hardware support.

- USB: cp210x: do not map baud rates to B0

Fixes handling of requests for low baud rates. Not sure why this is
important.

- USB: ftdi_sio: fix initial baud rate

Fixes our bug #658164.

Ben.

Fair enough, then you may need to modify the program to make it build
on Ubuntu. There are some changes in their Mozilla related
applications.

quite another story.

ChmSee more fun.

And the webkit is not as active as the xulrunner one.

You could test for slight differences in CPU or FPU behaviour. It needn't
be a privileged operation (kernel hacks may not be needed).

I don't know what those differences might be but the aranym developers may
have some ideas. They may even know how to get the CPU to identify itself.

That is a good alternative (also discussed in http://bugs.debian.org/598645).
However, I think that it would be nice make the correction proposed by Sam
if a proper removal of the whole appendix is not coming soon.

I found a post [1] by Dave O'Neill which has some ideas, like checking
/proc/ide/hd*/model (though grep -q X /sys/class/block/*/device/model
would probably work better, assuming that there exists an appropriate X).

Hello

This appears to be quite an oversight. I note that there was previous
code that did negate the priority cost, but it has since been replaced
by the current, buggy version.

# ./aptitude --log-resolver \
 -oAptitude::ProblemResolver::SolutionCost=priority install apt/experimental
…
INFO aptitude.resolver.search - --- Returning the future solution
…;C(nop, advance: 1)S-1938 from step 50
INFO aptitude.resolver.search - --- Returning the future solution
…;C(nop, advance: 500)S-9940 from step 2
…

With this patch I get those same solutions in the correct (priority)
order:

# ./aptitude --log-resolver \
 -oAptitude::ProblemResolver::SolutionCost=priority install apt/experimental
…
INFO aptitude.resolver.search - --- Returning the future solution
…;C(nop, advance: -500)S-9940 from step 2
INFO aptitude.resolver.search - --- Returning the future solution
…;C(nop, advance: -1)S-1938 from step 50
…

I have applied the patch to the Git repository.

Thanks for the report!

We've been wanting to remove those appendices for a long time, actually.
While having a tour of dpkg helper tools is an interesting piece of
documentation to have, it seems pretty far afield of the point of Policy.
That stuff is left over from the old Packaging Manual, and I think if such
a tour is useful it would be better maintained as part of the dpkg
documentation.

Hi Jonathan,

I think that it is a bit drastic. In the case of dpkg-buildpackage,
I agree that we should not repeat information found in the manual page,
but I like the short explanations on the purpose of each Dpkg helper

OK, but I wonder which information in the log file I should look at.

I can reproduce the bug after creating a fresh profile and copying
the cert8.db file. It is sufficient to open the page

https://www.zeroforfait.fr/cgi-bin/cie.cgi?b=ok&cid=zf&z=(null)&pi=(null)&p=/commander.shtml

and reload it from time to time. After several minutes, I get the
certificate error.

Bug#645157: handling of symlinks to external files in dpkg-dev

Well, either that or delete the unsafe symlinks and issue a warning.

> To make it executable.

At first glance that seems like a security vulnerability, since it could
allow an attacker to make an arbitrary file/dir executable.

For the trivial case (if debian/rules is an unsafe symlink), I see that
dpkg-source is not vulnerable to this issue. I didn't check any cases
involving debian/ being an unsafe symlink, but I think that dpkg-source
should check for that too.

pabs@chianamo ~/tmp/foo $ ls -l ~/foo
-rw--- 1 pabs pabs 0 Feb 12 09:27 /home/pabs/foo
pabs@chianamo ~/tmp/foo $ dpkg-source -x foo_0.1.dsc

pabs@chianamo ~/tmp/foo $ ls -l ~/foo
-rw--- 1 pabs pabs 0 Feb 12 09:27 /home/pabs/foo
pabs@chianamo ~/tmp/foo $ ls -l foo-0.1/debian/rules
lrwxrwxrwx 1 pabs pabs 14 Feb 12 09:27 foo-0.1/debian/rules -> /home/pabs/foo

I do note that debuild -S does change the permissions though, of course
it also runs debian/rules clean, which would always execute arbitrary
code so I guess that is safe if a bit weird.

Personally I would suggest that dpkg-source should error out or warn
when building a source package containing links to outside the source
package, since the resulting symlink will likely be invalid on systems
consuming the source package.

You can't know what kind of commands a user or script will run on an
unpacked source tree or whether the commands/script they are running is
written with security in mind or not. Practising defence in depth is
always a good idea, especially where people usually are not thinking
about security issues, which I very much doubt is happening when people
are processing source code in some way.

As an example, say people are automatically using a source code checker,
pretty-printer or comparison, automatically dumping output to the web.
Presumably that would follow symlinks, maybe resulting in a nasty
package causing arbitrary file leakage (think SSH private keys,
proprietary source code, whatever).

dpkg-source should definitely check both debian/ and debian/rules for
unsafe symlinks before doing the chmod +x.

I would also recommend removing any absolute or relative symlinks that
point outside of the unpacked source tree and issuing a warning if there
are any such unsafe symlinks.

Alternatively you could fail noisily if there are any unsafe symlinks at
all and delete the unpacked source tree.

I'd wager a guess that there is no actual hardware Falcon with AB040 that runs
Linux out there - Petr had trouble getting Linux to run on that hardware and we
never got to the bottom of that.

The amount of TT RAM might be an additional clue.

If that's not enough we could conceivably detect usage of natfeat drivers in
the
running kernel, and modify the /proc/hardware output in that case (perhaps
enabled by an additional kernel boot option flag so we won't affect other uses
of /proc/hardware).

Placing a flag in the kernel boot option seems like the easiest way to signal
the kernel runs on an emulator - unused optios should be passed to init which
ought to ignore an option like 'aranym'. Please try that.

Cheers,

  Michael

hpodder has started printing that warning here, though it continues
to other feeds. The feed causing the problem is
http://writersalmanac.publicradio.org/podcast/feed.php

I'll attach the file in question to this message. The problem
byte appears to be the apostrophe in "The Equipment Man?s Wife"

This feed is somewhat invalid, but it's good to apply Postel's law when
processing rss feeds -- because Sturgeon's law also applies. :)

In this case, why not set binary mode on the Handle before hGetContents?
Then the enclosure tags could be extracted even if other parts have bad
encodings.

Bug#659559: debdiff: multiple bugs in handling of extension-less .deb files

2012-02-11 Thread Raphael Geissert
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.71
Severity: minor
User: devscri...@packages.debian.org
Usertags: debdiff

Hi,

Debdiff's handling of files that do not end on \.(u?deb|dsc|changes)$ is:
a) undocumented
b) bogus, as one may end up comparing a .changes and a .deb

"b)" can be triggered by running:
debdiff deb_file_that_doesn\'t_end_in_common_exts a.changes

`file $ARGV[0]` =~ /Debian/ (in line 321) sets $type to 'deb', but the check
for the second file doesn't fail because there's an incorrect exclusion:
unless ($type eq 'deb' and `file $ARGV[0]` =~ /Debian/) {

I guess the second call to file(1) was meant to check $ARGV[1],

Cheers,

Bug#659558: libx11-6: libX11 or libxbc ignores a -display or DISPLAY, when host does not respond

2012-02-11 Thread Kephra Nurmi

Package: libx11-6
Version: 2:1.4.4-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

an `xterm -display thishostdoesnotexist:0` on wheezy will display on
localhost:0 without throwing a "Can't open display" error. Same with
xclock and all other basic X clients.

See: http://kephra.de/src/xterm-strace.txt
Search for /193.101.47

The ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused) is ignored, and instead
/tmp/.X11-unix/X0 used a few lines later.

The bug is likely in libX11 or libxbc.

Bug#649530: [copyright-format] clearer definitions and more consistent License: stanza specification

2012-02-11 Thread Charles Plessy
Le Sat, Feb 11, 2012 at 04:41:28PM +, Ximin Luo a écrit :

> or an IRC channel?

Dear Ximin,

in practice, discussions take place where they started, that is usually
debian-project@, debian-devel@, debian-policy@ and debian-mentors@. Important
points are CCed to debian-project@, since it is the list where it was decided
originally that discussion should happen. For IRC, I do not know as I never
connect there.

After the 1.0 release, discussion will follow the Policy process, so the
discussions will take place on that list through the bug records. Of course,
it is good to seek comments on debian-devel@ or debian-projects@ when proposing
changes that would affect a large number of developers or packages.

I recommend you to make sure that each patch you send is focused on one and
only one proposition. Reformatting, movements of paragraphs, etc. can be done
after agreeing on the key changes. In my understanding, the key changes in
your patch are the following.

> +
> +Description text (License paragraphs): gives the licensing terms for
> +those paragraphs which reference it. (Other extra-license
> information,

I think that they are too disruptive to be integrated before releasing version
1.0.

1) With the current DEP, it is possible to have software- or author-specific
information in the standalone License paragraphs, and I do not want to send
signals that maintainers should change this in their Debian copyright files as
a best practice for version 1.0.

2) Using a standalone License paragraph for representing two different
redistribution terms is not currently supported. Regardless my personnal
opinion on that feature, such a normative change can not be done be done in the
last minute, and I really hope to mark the DEP accepted next week. Also, I do
not want the current text to speculate on the contents of the next versions in
the absence of a clear consensus that a change will be applied.

Cheers,

Bug#659557: fonts-junicode: use dh_installdeb maintscript support

2012-02-11 Thread Colin Watson
Package: fonts-junicode
Version: 0.6.17+20110915-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch precise

Using 'dpkg-maintscript-helper supports rm_conffile' guards introduces
unreliability into upgrades; it means that the conffile is removed or
not depending on whether dpkg happens to be unpacked before
fonts-junicode. This seems generally undesirable; it would be better to
enforce a single code path. (This is academic for Debian because the
version of dpkg in squeeze supported dpkg-maintscript-helper, hence
Severity: wishlist; Ubuntu's last LTS release didn't have a sufficient
version of dpkg for that which is why I care.)

It would be nice to just use dh_installdeb's support for generating
dpkg-maintscript-helper commands, which was introduced in debhelper
8.1.0. This would remove duplicate code from your maintainer scripts -
in fact, you'd no longer need to have handwritten maintainer scripts at
all. Here's a patch:

  * Use maintscript support in dh_installdeb rather than writing out
dpkg-maintscript-helper commands by hand. We now simply Pre-Depend on a
new enough version of dpkg rather than using 'dpkg-maintscript-helper
supports' guards, leading to more predictable behaviour on upgrades.

Yeah, it would help.

Probably the best place to do further work on this would be upstream
(bugs.freedesktop.org), but let's take a look at the logs first.

Ok, no word from the Debian X team, so let's take matters into our own
hands. ;-) If you have a chance to try xserver-xorg-video-intel from
experimental (and comment out or remove the debugwait snippet in
xorg.conf), that would be interesting.

Bug#649641: Bug #649641: pulseaudio mutex issue on Alpha architecture

2012-02-11 Thread Michael Cree
The pulseaudio problem on Alpha is worse than just causing a crash in
iceweasel---pulseaudio cannot auto-detect audio cards via the udev
mechanism.

I have a number of audio cards (HDA-intel on a newer Radeon graphics
card, and M-Audio Revolution 5.1) in my Alpha XP1000 but these are not
detected despite the presence of module-udev-detect in the pulseaudio
system config.

Trying to play sound files (aplay -D pulse ) plays no
sound and never returns.

Instrumenting and recompiling pulseaudio to print out the errno of the
failed call to pthread_mutex_unlock reveals an EPERM return.

Anyway, I think this is a fault in the kernel, not with pulseaudio. If
I boot with a 2.6.38.x variant kernel pulseaudio works, the audio cards
are detected, I have the pleasant sounds of Pink Floyd playing again,
and iceweasel works without crashing. Run with a newer kernel and
pulseaudio fails to work.

Other hints that this is a kernel problem introduced somewhere between
2.6.38 and 2.6.39 is that the eglibc test suite passes on 2.6.38 and
older kernels, but fails on 2.6.39 and newer kernels with failures in
mutex related tests.

Maybe this bug should be reassigned to the linux kernel?

Cheers
Michael.

Bug#659553: fonts-f500: use dh_installdeb maintscript support

2012-02-11 Thread Colin Watson
Package: fonts-f500
Version: 1.0-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch precise

Using 'dpkg-maintscript-helper supports rm_conffile' guards introduces
unreliability into upgrades; it means that the conffile is removed or
not depending on whether dpkg happens to be unpacked before fonts-f500.
This seems generally undesirable; it would be better to enforce a single
code path. (This is academic for Debian because the version of dpkg in
squeeze supported dpkg-maintscript-helper, hence Severity: wishlist;
Ubuntu's last LTS release didn't have a sufficient version of dpkg for
that which is why I care.)

Version: 10.0.1-1~bpo60+1
Severity: normal

This bug also happens on the 10.0.1-1 backport to stable, and makes it
impossible to access the site, which is one of the 3 largest Brazillian
banks (Banco do Brasil, aka BB).

To reproduce:
Go to https://www2.bancobrasil.com.br/aapf/login.jsp?aapf.IDH=sim&perfil=6

(you may have to reach that page by going to http://www.bb.com.br, and
clicking on the "OK" button on the top of the page (without filling the
two form fields used for account information)).

console output:

Ah, this looks promising. Please attach full "dmesg" output, or if it is
too long, everything starting a few lines before the first WARNING and
ending at "cut here".

Also, could you try connecting using "iw" and sending the associated
logs? Like this:

apt-get install iproute iw
ifdown wlan0

# in one terminal:
iw event -t

# in another terminal:
ip link set wlan0 up
iw dev wlan0 connect -w key d:0:
dhclient wlan0; # or use the usual "ip" magic to set a static IP
ping 8.8.8.8
ip link set wlan0 down
dmesg | tail

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan

Bug#659549: desktop-base: use dh_installdeb maintscript support

2012-02-11 Thread Colin Watson
Package: desktop-base
Version: 6.0.7
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch precise

Using 'dpkg-maintscript-helper supports rm_conffile' guards introduces
unreliability into upgrades; it means that the conffile is removed or
not depending on whether dpkg happens to be unpacked before
desktop-base.

Since you already build-depend on a sufficient version of debhelper, it
would be nice to just use dh_installdeb's support for generating
dpkg-maintscript-helper commands, which was introduced in debhelper
8.1.0. This would remove duplicate code from your maintainer scripts.

Ok, please send a summary of this problem upstream (that's
ath9k-de...@lists.ath9k.org, cc-ing linux-wirel...@vger.kernel.org,
linux-ker...@vger.kernel.org, and either me or this bug log so we can
track it).

Be sure to mention the steps to reproduce, expected result, actual
result, and versions tested, and what kind of testing you would and
would not be able to do to track this down, just as you have here, and
include a link to this bug log for the full story.

That's fine. If we're lucky, someone more familiar with these things
upstream can come up with some way to confirm or rule out that cause
without having to build a new kernel.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

sorry for not replying earlier. I'll try to upload a fixed package
tomorrow myself. Please cancel the NMU. Reason is that I invented
another RC bug with 2:1.4.1-1 and would like to fix that one with the
upload as well. It needs some testing first though.

Thanks for the patch, it's much better than my fix in the SVN
repository. I'll use it.

Bug#659548: check-mk: multiple bugs in dpkg-maintscript-helper use

2012-02-11 Thread Colin Watson
Package: check-mk
Version: 1.1.12-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch precise

There are multiple bugs in your use of dpkg-maintscript-helper, which
render it unreliable on upgrades. Here's a patch to fix them. I would
suggest migrating to dh_installdeb's .maintscript files in future,
though, as it reduces repetition and thus makes it harder to get this
kind of thing wrong.

  * Move dpkg Pre-Depends from check-mk-server to check-mk-config-icinga and
check-mk-config-nagios3, to match the packages that actually use
dpkg-maintscript-helper.
  * Remove package names from dpkg-maintscript-helper calls. They were
unnecessary and had an incorrect trailing dot.
  * Move check-mk-config-nagios3.prerm to check-mk-config-nagios3.preinst.
'dpkg-maintscript-helper mv_conffile' is ineffective in the prerm.

Thanks. To maybe save others time digging:

 chipset: 855GM (Montara-GM)
 xorg-server 2:1.11.3.901-2
 ddx: intel_drv 2.17.0
drm and mesa are presumably 2.4.30-1 and 7.11.2-1 respectively.

If you have time to bisect through the kernels at
http://snapshot.debian.org/ to find when the fix was introduced (e.g.,
a good first kernel to try might be 2.6.35), that would be very
useful.

Hi.

I'm a bit confused. The most recent version on upstreams site is 0.9.2.
And the program itself says it would be 0.9.99.1.

But the package claims 1.0.0?!

Cheers,
Chris.

btw: What's the gnome plugin actually doing? Could the description be
improved?

Bug#655999: [bugs.debian.org] Reporting documentation - "What package does your bug report belong to?" points to user support groups

I made that edit ten years ago (heh) pointing people to debian-user because
helping a person to determine whether the thing they want to communicate is
a bug and how to report it - is primarily a user support issue. Users trying
to report problems is not a development discussion by default; it can be
considered a prerequisite for a development discussion, but not one in and
of itself.

I'm not sure I see the point of making this kind of a subtle distinction
the reason to start yet another mailing list that would handle just this
matter.

In any case, we do have support for tracking unknown packages in the bug
tracking system, and a few people (used to) volunteer to look after it.
So if the prospective reporter doesn't get help from debian-user, they
can still file such a bug report. If they get sidetracked, it's a public
forum, someone else can pick it up from there, too.

Thanks for reporting it. Could you elaborate? In particular:

 - please attach output from
"reportbug --template linux-image-$(uname -r)", so we can get to
   know your configuration and hardware

 - what commands do you use to set up an ad hoc connection? See [1]
for hints on ruling out problems from networkmanager and other
higher-level tools when working on wireless bugs, and for hints on
getting an event log. How do you know it failed? Any other hints
   or weird symptoms?

 - please attach full "dmesg" output from booting up and attempting to
   connect in ad-hoc mode.

If you have time to test the attached patch[2], that might also be
useful.

Hope that helps,
Jonathan

Bug#659544: Using \pause in a TikZ picture makes footer disappear on all but last slide

2012-02-11 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: latex-beamer
Version: 3.10-1
Severity: normal

When using a theme with a footer, if I create a slide which uses \pause
within a TikZ picture to create an incrementally overlaid diagram, the
footer will disappear on all but the last sub-slide. This doesn't
happen when using \pause outside of a TikZ picture, nor does it happen
when using full overlay specifications in a TikZ picture.

I've attached a minimal test case.

Bug#659540: upstart: Please switch to using new sysvinit initctl control FIFO path

2012-02-11 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: upstart
Version: 0.6.6-2
Severity: important

Hi,

sysvinit (2.88dsf-19) switched from using /dev/initctl (Linux) and
/etc/.initctl (kFreeBSD) to /run/initctl. This was the final part
of the wider /run transition, and additionally unifies the path
across all Debian platforms.

upstart contains code to send control messages to the control FIFO,
but this code is using the old path /dev/initctl.

Please could you update upstart to use the new path? There are two
possible ways to do this:

1) Straight switch to new path
This will require a Breaks: sysvinit (<< 2.88dsf-19) to ensure
that the new control FIFO path is present and has a listener.

2) Use new path, but fall back to old path if not present
This will allow the Breaks: to be skipped, and will support both
old and new versions of sysvinit, at the expense of adding the
fallback logic to the upstart code.

Regards,
Roger

I'm doing it.

Ok, I'll do the build towards a debian-ports upload then. I understand
the difficulties of managing a transition that affects almost 5%
packages :)

Bug#658426: xfonts-bolkhov/20001007-7 [ITA] -- Cyrillic fonts for X

2012-02-11 Thread Daniel Martí
retitle 658426 xfonts-bolkhov/20001007-7 [ITA] -- Cyrillic fonts for X
thanks

I've started again from scratch. No lintian reports are left, except for the
ones related to upstream since there is no active upstream (debian/watch,
homepage field, etc.).

The package can be found on mentors.d.n as usual:

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/x/xfonts-bolkhov/xfonts-bolkhov_1.1.20001007-7.dsc

I'd be very grateful if somebody uploaded this package for me.

Regards,

Daniel

1. The do build with libedit and we don't.

Bug#659451: initscripts wants to assume UTC=yes in /etc/default/rcS

This is related to the recent change to use ucf to manage the
configuration of /etc/default/rcS.

The question I would really like answered in order to fix this is
which settings in /etc/default/rcS should never, ever be altered
after initial installation?

TMPTIME=0
SULOGIN=no
DELAYLOGIN=no
UTC=yes
VERBOSE=no
FSCKFIX=no
RAMLOCK=yes
RAMSHM=yes
RAMTMP=yes

Of these, I can only see UTC as being essential to never alter
following the installation. The others are regular values which
could be in a regular dpkg conffile, unless there are good reasons
for them not to be. E.g. RAM*, VERBOSE, *LOGIN can be changed to
suit the admin at any time, and the same applies to TMPTIME and
FSCKFIX AFAICS.

Assuming that only UTC is "special", I'd like to propose the
following:
- create /etc/default/hwclock; this will contain UTC=
- migrate the existing UTC= setting to /etc/default/hwclock
  in the preinst
- provide /etc/default/rcS as a dpkg conffile; drop ucf support

Is this a reasonable strategy, or am I missing any other
variables in rcS which should also be treated as "special"?

Regards,
Roger

Bug#659533: Please include ws-trim.el

2012-02-11 Thread Martin Stjernholm
Package: emacs-goodies-el
Severity: wishlist

I suggest you include the package ws-trim.el. Short description:

WS Trim is mainly useful as a minor mode that does various sorts of
whitespace trimming, but only on lines you edit. It can remove trailing
whitespace, convert leading whitespace to tabs or spaces, etc.

The package is my own. I wrote it a long time ago and use it myself all
the time (currently in Emacs 23.2), but I know there are others out
there that find it useful as well - see e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/
questions/3705303/untabify-and-remove-trailing-whitespaces-in-emacs.

It's licensed under GPLv2. The latest version is available here:

ftp://ftp.lysator.liu.se/pub/emacs/ws-trim.el

Thank you.

This is correct, and on current Linux and kFreeBSD platforms which
both provide /proc/mounts and symlink /etc/mtab to /proc/mounts,
this is entirely redundant. It is however required on Hurd. We
should probably consider only installing it on Hurd.
