Bug#684555: Dolphin stuck in infinite loop with encfs/fuse defaults

2012-08-11 Thread David Smith
Package: dolphin
Version: 4:4.8.4-1
Architecture: i386
Subject: Dolphin stuck in infinite loop with encfs/fuse defaults

Video available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSG0_qmLndo

Deploying an encfs folder with the Debian encfs defaults (allow_root is NOT
set, allow_other is NOT set).

Dolphin gets into an infinite loop trying to access the folder.

Test Method:
1) Have user's home folders mounted on bootup automatically
2) Have user login with KDM, which automatically mounts the encfs folder
3) The folder then can be entered and is browsable at the command line.
4) Try to browse the folder with dolphin
5) Dolphin gets stuck in an infinite loop where the subfolders inside the
folder continuously disappear and reappear.

Workaround:
1) Edit /etc/security/pam_encfs.conf and add allow_other to the encfs
mount.
2) Edit /etc/fuse.conf and add user_allow_other
3) restart PC
4) Dolphin now works as expected. Note that the above edits are not encfs
defaults.

Bug#683690: Debian 7.0 Beta 1 Installer cannot find network devices after 10+ minutes

 Wireless iwl3945 driver

System seems to load and start fine, but no matter which option (I've tried
console, graphical, boot with LXDE, boot with Xfce), use expert mode, use
standard option), all hang at the point of network detection, with the
 Ethernet wire connected.

I am using this same system either wired or wireless with all other systems,
 including mostly Debian-derived systems.

This is bug #683690. Indeed quite probably a kernel bug but worked
around in mountmedia 0.21 (which is not in D-I beta1).

2012-08-11 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Thomas Goirand (z...@debian.org):

One last thing: in our Git, I have already a debian/po/es.po update. I
didn't upload the package with it, because of the urgency=high. Was this
the correct thing to do (eg: plan for a later upload then unblock), or
should I have include the template update? Please give me the release
team view on this, so I know how to handle such situation later on.

My personal stance on this (so, not the release team view): uploading
with the spanish translation would have been OK as it is well known
that such updates are anyway accepted.

That would save another upload and another freeze exception request
later on..:-). But I very well understand you want to give priority to
the security fix and not pollute your request with an unrelated
change.

Hi,

I made a package and uploaded to experimental.

* This removes sleep in some uim GUI initialization.
* Except moving hook script which made postinst a bit complicated,
script itself are made as simple as possible.

This should solve some hard to reproduce GUI program die due to missing
dbus etc.

Bug#309568: #309568: d-i manual: need to better document CD types and writing

2012-08-11 Thread Holger Wansing
This old bugreport requests to describe the difference between
netinst and businesscard image.
This is no longer relevant since the businesscard images are
not to be generated nowadays.

Additionally the bug mentions to document how to write iso images
to CD. In the d-i manual there is a link to
http://www.debian.org/CD/ which has a prominent link to
the FAQ about Debian CDs.
And that FAQ describes several methods to create a bootable
CD, on different OSses.
This should be sufficient.

So this bug could be closed.
Comments?

PS: In https://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2012/08/msg00372.html
it was (as a comment to #280348) proposed to provide a link to
the CD-FAQ, to have info about cd writing more directly present.

Bug#684562: debian-handbook: improvements for the fourteenth chapter

2012-08-11 Thread Francesco Poli (wintermute)
Package: debian-handbook
Version: 6.0+20120509
Severity: minor

Hi Raphaël,
I've just finished reading chapter 14, here's my usual list of
proposed changes.

Section 14.1. Defining a Security Policy

Typo? s/are we are willing/are we willing/

Section 14.2. Firewall or Packet Filtering

Maybe it's more accurate to say

since, after all, we can jump to a user-defined chain from
any other chain (including another user-defined one), not
only from a standard chain...

Section 14.2.2.2. Rules

Typo? s/-s adress/-s address/
s/-d adress/-d address/

Typo? s/to differenciate/to differentiate/

Section 14.2.3. Creating Rules
--

A very nice non-graphical iptables/ip6tables front-end is ferm.
I think it should be at least mentioned as a valid alternative
to fwbuilder...

Section 14.3.2.1. In Real Time
--

Please note that lavaps and bubblemon have been removed from Debian:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/lavaps/news/20110223T225158Z.html
http://packages.qa.debian.org/b/bubblemon/news/20111028T092735Z.html

On the other hand, bubblefishymon is still in Debian, but its homepage
does not predict a bright future for it:
Since 2004-06-01 this package is totally unsupported, and very much
dead, because it has been dropped in the only package environment I
care about.
http://www.jnrowe.ukfsn.org/projects/bfm.html

Maybe other visual monitoring tools included in Debian (if any) should
be mentioned instead.

BTW, another nice graphical system monitor (even though this one
does not necessarily show things in a funny way) is conky.
Maybe, it could be worth mentioning it.

Section 14.3.3.1. Auditing Packages: debsums and its Limits
---

| Note that this example uses the grep-status command from the grep-dctrl

The grep-dctrl package was renamed to dctrl-tools in 2005: please
update this sentence...

Section 14.3.4. Detecting Intrusion (IDS/NIDS)
--

The Going Further box title seems to have the wrong font or font size
and it also seems to be in small caps, rather than all caps...
This holds at least for the PDF version of the handbook.
Please fix this typographical glitch.

In my opinion, there are bugs with this hardware/driver.

I fixed the bug by removing only the laptop-mode-tools package,
although I'm sure it probably has a negative impact on my battery life.
laptop-mode-tools could just be the tool able to uncover this bug.
Looking at the code, this above mentioned error seems to be triggered
during a device reset:

/**
 * e1000e_reset - bring the hardware into a known good state
 *
 * This function boots the hardware and enables some settings that
 * require a configuration cycle of the hardware - those cannot be
 * set/changed during runtime. After reset the device needs to be
 * properly configured for Rx, Tx etc.
 */
void e1000e_reset(struct e1000_adapter *adapter)
{
struct e1000_mac_info *mac = adapter-hw.mac;
struct e1000_fc_info *fc = adapter-hw.fc;
struct e1000_hw *hw = adapter-hw;

ew32(WUC, 0);

if (mac-ops.init_hw(hw))
e_err(Hardware Error\n);
..

For this actual issue reported in this bug, I haven't been able to
reproduce it.

And regarding Ben's comment about autoneg, I will check with the
previous author of laptop-mode-tools on why it was added. If not needed,
it'll be knocked off in the next release.

Thanks for the fix, I've applied it upstream:

Do you need it in wheezy? If so, I'd also upload a new version to
Debian, otherwise, I'd delay this until we sync again with upstream.

Bug#682672: geoip-database-contrib: Improve download logic in geoip-database-contrib_update

 Hi!

In geoip-database-contrib_update we can see that it first deletes the old
database and then tries to download a new version.
I see one small problem here: suppose there is a network problem and
it's not possible to download the new database; we stay without the old
version (that was removed) and without the new version (that couldn't be
 downloaded).

Are you sure?
$FILE is the basename of the downloading URL, which is stripped down to
e.g. GeoIPv6.dat.gz.
So the first rm -f $FILE only deletes the compressed databases (which
are not used).
Then:

/usr/bin/wget -t3 -T15 -P /usr/share/GeoIP/ $url \
/bin/gunzip -f /usr/share/GeoIP/$FILE

So gunzip only will get executed (and so on overwriting the database),
if wget was successful ().

Would be good if we could stay with the old version if the new one has
failed (old data is better than no data).

Bug#684567: unblock: apache2/2.2.22-11

2012-08-11 Thread Arno Töll
Package: release.debian.org
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock
Severity: normal

Please unblock package apache2. I've attached a git diff of changes
since 2.2.22-9 which is currently in Testing. These are changes since then:

Close bug #682840 Default /etc/apache2/mods-available/disk_cache.conf
is incompatible with ext3. It turned out Apache's default configuration
for mod_cache_disk does not work very well under some circumstances
causing Apache to stop service. We changed the default to a more
moderate setting. This is a non-invasive default configuration change
only. However, we need to purge the on-disk cache of users on upgrades.
This was fixed in 2.2.22-10 whereas upload 2.2.22-11 makes the handling
of the cache directory more secure to avoid link attacks.

Close bug #682401 dbmmanage: please use Digest::SHA instead of
Digest::SHA1. The Perl modules used by dbmmanage are not shipped in
Wheezy. The patch makes dbmmanage work on Wheezy.

Switch to xz compression for .deb members. This was done upon request as
Apache might end up on Wheezy's CD1 (if we switch to Gnome again)
because gnome-user-server reverse depends on it.

Close bug #682897: apache2: Directive SSLProtocol should support TLS
1.1+. Add support for TLSv1.0 and TLS in OpenSSL. The SSL Protocol
change is important because it allows administrators to work around
interopability problems that will doubtless occur with TLS v1.[12] with
some buggy clients. Admittedly this is a heavy patch but we think it is
of great benefit to Wheezy. It was backported from upstream's Apache 2.4
branch.

unblock apache2/2.2.22-11

Great!

I'd like to send the man page upstream, so I have 2 questions:

1) I read «This manual page was generated using html2man»; where is the
source?

2) Which is the license?

Thank you very much!

Bug#684570: DDPO: does not show information from NM

2012-08-11 Thread Bart Martens
Package: qa.debian.org

I see that https://nm.debian.org/cgi-bin/nm-dump is currently empty.

The script data/cronjobs/newmaint-update reads from that webpage to create the
file nmstatus.new, and that file is input for data/nm/nm-txt2db to create
nmstatus-new.db, which is renamed to nmstatus.db by
data/cronjobs/newmaint-update. The db file nmstatus.db is used by the DDPO
(developer.wml, developer.php).

So the DDPO currently does not show information from NM.

Bug#684571: qpsmtpd: SMTP Auth Received: header format causes spam false positives and leaks sensitive information

2012-08-11 Thread Nick Leverton
Package: qpsmtpd
Version: 0.84-5
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi,

I guess this is two bugs really but the same patch can fix both.
When TLS is in use, qpsmtpd creates a Received header of the form

Received: from 87.114.148.171.plusnet.thn-ag1.dyn.plus.net (HELO
george.localnet) (87.114.148.171)
  (smtp-auth username XXELIDEDXXX, mechanism cram-md5)
by tauism.org (qpsmtpd/0.84) with (AES256-SHA encrypted) ESMTPSA; Thu, 02 Aug
2012 23:04:55 +0100

According to RFC 5322, comments may not appear between with and the
protocol. The BNF allows only FWS there, not CFWS.

This wholly breaks spam-scanning of authenticated clients with
SpamAssassin. If an authorised client connects from a spammy IP address,
as above, their mail will not be detected as coming from an SMTP Auth
submission as the Qpsmtpd header does not parse correctly, and will
therefore probably be marked as spam.

X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=6.439 tagged_above=-999 required=5
tests=[ RCVD_IN_BRBL_LASTEXT=1.449, RCVD_IN_PBL=3.335,
RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL=0.001, RDNS_DYNAMIC=0.982,

whereas the correctly formatted header hits on ALL_TRUSTED:

X-Spam-Status: No, score=-24.2 required=5.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,...

I'm also not very happy about the amount of detail that Qpsmtpd leaks
into relayed mail such as the names of valid SMTP auth logins.
This detail concerning a host/account pair may well end up being
indexed in public mailing list servers and therefore has significant
security implications. The information should go in the logs but not
in the Received headers.

The attached patch removes both these comment entries from the header.

Bug#673770: libcap2-bin: modifying files from another package

2012-08-11 Thread Tobias Hansen
I suggest we do a NMU adding the dependency instead of the preinst
script. The two packages have been one package before, so a dependency
between them can't do any harm. libcap2-bin was just split, because
binaries don't go into into multiarch directories.

Is there still nobody who wants to sponsor this? Bart? Mark?

Best regards,
Tobias

So the cause of the problem is that your datafile is corrupted. There is
a duplicate guid.

The good news is that there is an easy fix: in the Orphan-CAD account,
delete the first empty transaction dated 07/08/2006. With that change, I
was able to save your file in sqlite3.

Can you try this out, and tell me if this fixes the problem for you
also?

Bug#684573: busybox fails to parse less-than-3-component linux version string

2012-08-11 Thread Michael Tokarev
Package: src
Version: 1:1.20.0-5
Severity: important
Tags: patch upstream

Busybox have the same issue with 2-component linux version code as
lots of other utils had (discovered when linux 3.0 were released):
it just segfaults when such a kernel is used.

This does not affect wheezy directly, since wheezy uses 3.2.0 kernel
(with fake trailing zero to work around exactly this problem in
various software), but yet it is important to get this fixed for
wheezy, to let backported and self-compiled kernels to work.
Especially since busybox is used in initramfs to boot the system.

Patch to fix this issue is below.

/mjt

Subject: allow less-than-3-component kernel version number
From: Michael Tokarev m...@tls.msk.ru
Forwarded: no

Busybox expects at least 3-component linux version number,
and segfaults if less than 3 components are available.

Bug#683691: New package in unstable

2012-08-11 Thread Adrian Knoth
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package jackd2. I've updated the package in unstable
again, so it now fixes three bugs:

Severity important: #675719

One-line fix from upstream to make jack_control work again.

Severity normal: #680159, #672881

Some man pages were broken. Since jack_connect is pretty fundamental, we
really want to ship working documentation in wheezy.

Attached an updated debdiff between -1 (wheezy) and -3 (unstable).

I would like to hear your experience with my experimental package.

2012-08-11 Thread Dmitry Smirnov
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package libssh2

1.4.2-1.1 fixes two bugs:

#675785 - FTBFS in packages linking with libssh2.
#675782 - safe cosmetic fix bundled with the important change above.

Maintainer of libssh2 advised to proceed with NMU
which was reviewed by Bart Martens who advised to file unblock request.

Changelog entry:

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Added patch to fix pkg-config/libgcrypt dependency (Closes: #675785).
  * Install upstream ChangeLog (Closes: #675782).
  * debian/control:
+ libssh2-1-dev to depend on libgcrypt11-dev.
+ added Homepage field.

See all the changes in the attached diff.

  unblock libssh2/1.4.2-1.1

Thank you.

Regards,
Dmitry.

openjdk-6 and openjdk-7 work. Any problem in confirming that?
sun-java6 was in non-free and removed due to a license change.

Bug#684577: torsocks can't be called without arguments

2012-08-11 Thread Damyan Ivanov
Package: torsocks
Version: 1.2-3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

At the beginning of /usr/bin/torsocks one can read:

 # There are three forms of usage for this script:
 # (1)
 # /usr/bin/torsocks program [program arguments...]
 # (2)
 # . /usr/bin/torsocks on
 # telnet www.foo.org
 # . /usr/bin/torsocks off
 # (3)
 # The third form creates a new shell with LD_PRELOAD set and is achieved
 # simply by running the script with no arguments
 #
 # /usr/bin/torsocks
 #
 # When finished the user can simply terminate the shell with 'exit'

This last option does not work, because of the code at lines 76-80:

 if [ $# = 0 ] ; then
echo $0: insufficient arguments
exit
 fi

Removing these makes the third way of invocation work again.

Thanks for considering!

Bug#684579: shotwell: Menu adjust date and time differs between french and US localisation

2012-08-11 Thread rpnpif
Package: shotwell
Version: 0.6.1-1+b2
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

1.
LANG=C shotwell
or
LANG=en_EN.UTF-8 shotwell

Selecting a photo, the menu Photo gets Adjust Date and time... item (I think
src/Resources.vala:258).
Selecting it gets well the calendar to modifying time.

2.
LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 shotwell

Selecting a photo, the menu Photo gets L'ajustement de l'heure n'a pas pu être
annulé sur le fichier
photo suivant. item (src/Commands.vala:1254), but selecting it gets well the
calendar to modifying time.

It is as a mismatch of messages (?).

To reproduce try running:

I didn't try to rebuild the package with 'nostrip' flag (no time right now),

Control: found -1 4.3.6-1

The problem is that lib/stdint.h is hijacking system headers with
definitions such as:

#define intptr_t gl_intptr_t
#define uintptr_t gl_uintptr_t

But the purpose of lib/stdint.h is:
| /*
| * ISO C 99 stdint.h for platforms that lack it.
| * http://www.opengroup.org/susv3xbd/stdint.h.html
| */

Now the question is: why is this file being used in the first place?

Thanks for the report and the comment. I forwarded it to the upstream
mailinglist.

N.b. I can't find your e-mail in the lftp-devel archives.

Hi,

Subject: Bug#681849: perl: regex negative lookbehind does not work before $

Package: perl
Version: 5.14.2-6
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The negative look-behind assertion does not work correctly before $ (the
end-of-line assertion).

I expect to be able to say match lines that do not end in bar
using the regex /(?!bar)$/ . However this does not work:

% (echo foo; echo bar; echo foobaz) | perl -ne 'print if(/(?!bar)$/)'
foo
bar
foobaz
%

It should not have printed bar above.

A similar pattern using /^(?!bar)/ works to say lines that do not
start with bar, and negative look-behind works before a string:

# negative lookahead
% (echo foo; echo bar; echo foobaz) | perl -ne 'print if(/^(?!foo)/)'
bar
%

# negative lookbehind before string
% (echo foo; echo bar; echo foobaz) | sed 's/$/x/g' | \
 perl -ne 'print if(/(?!bar)x$/)'
foox
foobazx
%

I found a workaround that may shed light on the root cause of the
problem. Normally /$/ matches the end of a string or the line-ending
character at the end of a string, and regex behavior with $ is not
changed by chomp()ing the line-ending-character away. But in this case,
there is a difference. If I chomp; before matching, the negative
look-behind assertion works correctly:

% (echo foo; echo bar; echo foobaz) | perl -ne 'chomp; print if(/(?!bar)$/)'
foofoobaz
%

Note that it did not print bar above, correctly implementing the behavior
documented in perlre(1).

This piece should check if modules.builtin has been opened successfully,
or else `parser' variable will be NULL.

The preceding loop that reads /proc/modules doesn't check this, so
neither did I. Looking at the source of config_read() and
config_close(), it's clear that this is harmless.

I want to include this patch with the next revision of busybox,
 and sent it upstream.

Feel free to fix the bug number, of course.

I have no idea why the last two processing control commands were
rejected by the Debian BTS [2][3]. Hopefully it will work now.

testing Linux kernel 3.5-1~experimental.1 [1] from Debian experimental I
noticed that the module `microcode` is loaded which has according to
`/var/log/syslog` not been the case with Linux 3.2.y.
 [...]
So to summarize I think, this module should not be loaded automatically
for this Celeron processor, which is not need for operation.

This really depends on what operations you want to do, and how buggy the
CPU microcode installed by the BIOS is. If you care that much about it,
 you can blacklist it.

Understood. Although I do not understand from where the updated
microcode is fetched. The only way for desktop users were BIOS upgrades
if I remember correctly. Linux does not ship the microcode, does not it.

So I do not see what purpose this module has for desktop users.

I think that should actually be backported to wheezy, as I meant to
apply all the CPU auto-loading patches.

I never thought that this would be the outcome of my report. ;-)

Bug#684584: gnome-shell: README.Debian completely outdated

2012-08-11 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.4.2-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The current README.Debian is from 2009 which talks about non-existing
--xephyr option and meant to be used under GNOME2. This is better to be
removed for wheezy release.

Since many people will be looking for POWER-OFF menu, it may be even
better idea to put an updated content aiming to address these via
extension packages and URL links.

I think it is important to release wheezy with something along attached
patch on README.Debian for GNOME shell to give peace of mind for many
GNOME3 uses.

Osamu

PS: I was defector to XFce at one point and came back to GNOME after
3.4. With many extension installed, it is as productive as GNOME2
days. (I still see frozen keyboard input, though ... This may be IM
problem... OMG my problem )

Bug#606825: mingw-w64 triplets/ostable

2012-08-11 Thread Stephen Kitt
Hi Guillem,

On Wed, 8 Aug 2012 13:01:03 +0200, Guillem Jover guil...@debian.org wrote:
On Wed, 2012-08-08 at 10:30:19 +0100, Dmitrijs Ledkovs wrote:
This is an old bug. But at the debconf multiple people thought it has
been fixed already, while I don't think it was.
One small difference is that in the near future armhf/armel might be a
valid cpu architecture for mingw-w64 port.
The proposal over here http://wiki.debian.org/Mingw-W64 needs updating
to be completely inline with the multi arch spec, since that is now
  implemented.

  Any updates?

Sorry, I thought I had replied but it appears that was not the case,
it was on my radar to come back to it anyway, thanks for the reminder.

The main issue I have with this request is that the upstream triplet just
seems wrong, as it encodes part of the ABI in the vendor field. That's
AFAIR, from reading the thread back then.

For dpkg tools the vendor is irrelevant, and having to take it into
account would imply changing the underlaying infrastructure which
might not be a problem per se, if the reason for requiring this wan't
 wrong.

I take it you're referring to the w64 portion, differenciating MinGW-w64
from MinGW? I've been using the attached patch (which I'll explain further
down...) with pretty good results; what would break in dpkg if we wanted
correct support for the vendor? Currently I can specify mingw64-x86 as an
architecture; wouldn't it be possible to have a mingw-x86 architecture,
with the appropriate entries in triplettable and ostable, for MinGW support
without any other changes?

I'm not sure if it's too late now to consider changing the triplet
upstream, I should probable have brought this up long time ago, but
then it seemed to be pretty settled down already. :/

I think it is too late, everyone else (MinGW-w64, the many projects using
it, and the various other distributions supporting it) has already switched
to it.

OTOH, is dpkg buildable and usable at all on mingw-w64 systems? I
understand though that there might be reasons to want the architecture
supported so that cross-building is allowed, but then the request does
not seem pressing, and that's one of the reasons I've not acted on it
 before.

As Dmitrijs explained in his reply, all the MinGW-w64 stuff in Debian is
likely to only ever support cross-compilation, not end up being a full
architecture hosted on Windows. The main reason to have the support in dpkg
is to start building the infrastructure required for a partial architecture,
so we can more easily provide libraries etc. (see for example
http://bugs.debian.org/671437).

As to the attached patch, which is based on Jonathan Nieder's last patch,
I've added tests to deactivate stack protector and relro on Windows, and more
controversially I've added x86 and x64 entries in cputable. The reason for
that is two-fold: first, the standard triplet for 32-bit MinGW-w64 is
i686-w64-mingw32, and lots of things break when dpkg-dev says
i486-w64-mingw32 (as happens with the mingw64-i386 architecture in
Jonathan's patch); second, in the Windows world x86 is the canonical name
for 32-bit ix86, and x64 that for 64-bit x86-64.

Regards,

Stephen

My point is that if you do not have these microcode packages installed,
and if they are not installed automatically most users will not do so,
then loading the microcode module/driver does not have any effect.

and I believe it can be loaded by udev now.

Should not be udev also responsible for loading the necessary modules
then?

Another solution would be that the packages shipping microcodes should
also ship an appropriate `/etc/modprobe.d/microcode.conf` file to load
the module.

Remapping would be appreciated to be easy somehow.

jscal can be used for this, something like

if you don't care for the other axes.

Dear Maintainer,

Please can you add support for setting of the httpListenAddress option in

This will allow binding to localhost (or other alternative IP) and then use

Dear release-team,

I would like to upload thinkfan/0.8.1-1 to unstable and get it into
Wheezy with your help :)
0.8.1 is a bugfix release (diff is attached) which mainly fixes a RC
bug: #684315 Tries to write level 0 to sysfs, not just 0. The only
hunk that is not for that bug is the following:

Quoting upstream on it:
When parsing a quotation fails, the **input pointer was not reset to the
beginning of the quotation. This only causes trouble if the quotation
parser successfully reads one or more chars (i.e. something that starts
with ), but then the quotation is not closed with another . In this
case, an alternative parser would not start where the (failed) quotation
parser started, but where it stopped. However I can't think of any way
this would have caused trouble beyond an inaccurate error message if you
have broken quotations in your config. So nothing to worry about I guess ;-)

→ It's pretty safe not to include it, but it's a bug :)

Would you be okay with uploading 0.8.1-1 to unstable and unblocking it?
Or should I prepare a 0.8.0-2 instead, with the patch w/o parser.c?

Thanks for your work
Evgeni

Bug#684293: root cause of mount hang in installer [kernel bug]

2012-08-11 Thread Brian Potkin
On Thu 09 Aug 2012 at 13:29:20 +0100, Brian Potkin wrote:

Either before or just after selecting a language and configuring the
keyboard I executed 'mountmedia' and 'mountmedia driver'. Everything
seems to go well, with extended partitions being detected and attempted
 to be mounted.

After selecting cdrom-detect mountmedia stops at the first extended
partition it finds. This does not happen with the alpha-1 image and I
have no explanation why detecting and mounting the CD-ROM should trigger
 this behaviour.

To follow up on this:

The two lines in mountmedia

   mount $1 -tauto $MNT || true

and

   mount $1 -tauto $MNT

can be altered to look explicitly for vfat partitions with -tvfat.
Detection and loading of missing firmware then takes place as we would
expect. I offer this as an observation, not as a solution, because I'm
unsure how it would affect d-i as a whole.

After detecting and mounting the CD-ROM the iso9660 filesystem is shown
in /proc/filesystems and my thinking is that this may be the cause of
the present problem. The installation proceeds as usual if, after
loading the installer components. /cdrom is unmounted and the isofs
module unloaded from the kernel.

When mountmedia hangs it appears to be because -tauto tests for an
iso9660 filesystem first and fails with an extended partition. The lsmod
output shows two processes using the isofs module. I assume mountmedia
cannot go on to look for other partition types until the second process
has completed.

I also saw this problem. Thanks to all your info above, I've got a patch
that makes it skip the XDG_PICTURES_DIR attempt on failure to get the value,
so that it falls back to HOME as expected.

It seems that this has been fixed with a series of changes in upstream master:

  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=679055

So, if it's to be forwarded upstream, it would be for gnome-3-4 branch only.

Bug#606825: mingw-w64 triplets/ostable

2012-08-11 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi Stephen,

Stephen Kitt wrote:

[...]

Good. Thanks much for that.

  and more
controversially I've added x86 and x64 entries in cputable.

I think that's a no-go, sorry. The problem is that after that change
there is no longer one unambiguous Debian arch for each GNU triplet,
which breaks

 - automatic determination of the Debian arch when building dpkg
for a new system (less important)
 - dpkg-architecture -ttriplet -qDEB_HOST_ARCH (very important)

If the i386 cputype should behave differently for Windows arches, that
could be done more directly, though the use case would have to be
strong. If we want convenience synonyms for CPU types (with one being
the real one, the rest being for user convenience), that could
probably also be done, but I'm not at all convinced it would be worth
the confusion.

 The reason for
that is two-fold: first, the standard triplet for 32-bit MinGW-w64 is
i686-w64-mingw32, and lots of things break when dpkg-dev says
 i486-w64-mingw32

Can you spell out this breakage with an example? Is it about the
names of cross-compiler programs like i686-w64-mingw32-gcc (which
could be addressed with symlinks) or something deeper?

Thanks for testing, and hope that helps,
Jonathan

Bug#684592: init script returns 1 when ebtables is removed

2012-08-11 Thread Evgeni Golov
Package: ebtables
Version: 2.0.10.4-1
Severity: important

Hi,

the ebtables init script contains
[ -x /sbin/ebtables ] || exit 1

However, Debian Policy 9.3.2 [1] says:

These scripts should not fail obscurely when the configuration files
remain but the package has been removed, as configuration files remain
on the system after the package has been removed. Only when dpkg is
executed with the --purge option will configuration files be removed.
In particular, as the /etc/init.d/package script itself is usually a
conffile, it will remain on the system if the package is removed but
not purged. Therefore, you should include a test statement at the top
of the script, like this:

 test -f program-executed-later-in-script || exit 0

It would be great if you could follow the should here - or are there
any reasons not to? I see none from the changelog.

TIA
Evgeni

That may have been the result of merge issues from 1.3.18-2 back in

 I'll check it.

That's looks to have been the cause. I think I have it fixed and
I'll also be updating what I'm using to do the qa on the packages in
order to better check for such things.

  In preinst:

+# Set old_version variable for use later in the script.
  +old_version=$2
You do not seem to use $old_version later. Drop it.

I'll check that as well, as I thought I had a need for it ( it
 should therefore still be used)...

The usage of that variable is intended to make that maintainer script
consistent with the others that use the information. I'll fix it, one
way or another...

Bug#684593: [libkms]: also build on kfreebsd

Hi!

With the kfreebsd-10 kernel currently in experimental it is possible
to run intel kms drivers also on kfreebsd. A libkms1 is necessary to
make this work. Patch for the source is from upstream FreeBSD [0][1]
with slight modification to also work on kfreebsd.

Would be great to have a fixed package in wheezy.

I have made a new release of ‘comixcursors’ addressing this bug. It is
now awaiting examination by the existing sponsor.

Bug#682686: Freeze exception request for wireshark 1.8.1-1 or 1.8.0-2

2012-08-11 Thread Bálint Réczey
severity 680056 grave
found 680056 1.2.11-6

Dear Release Team,

Please make a decision regarding giving the exception.
The vulnerability is serious enough to make the bug RC.

The next upstream release is planned for 14 August, it may contain
security fixes as well.

Thanks,
Balint

2012/7/24 Bálint Réczey bal...@balintreczey.hu:
 Package: release.debian.org
 Severity: normal
 User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
 Usertags: freeze-exception

 Dear Release Team,

I would like to update the wireshark package.
I can do it two ways:
 1. I can pick the two security fixes from 1.8.1 like I'd do if Wheeze
 have been released already.
   https://www.wireshark.org/docs/relnotes/wireshark-1.8.1.html

 2. I can package 1.8.1 since it is a bugfix release:
   changes collected for 1.8.1:
   http://wiki.wireshark.org/Development/Roadmap?action=recallrev=2392
   the actual git log:

 http://anongit.wireshark.org/git/?p=wireshark;a=shortlog;h=refs/tags/wireshark-1.8.1
   git diff:

 http://anongit.wireshark.org/git/?p=wireshark;a=commitdiff;h=refs/tags/wireshark-1.8.1;hp=refs/tags/wireshark-1.8.0
I have also attached the diffstat.

I'd prefer option 2 since we are early in the freeze, 1.8.1 is a
 bugfix release and
brings in important stability fixes in addition to the security fixes.

 Cheers,
 Balint

Bug#684580: torsocks: segfault in libtorsocks.so

 To reproduce try running:

  torsocks cvs -d :pserver:anonym...@anonscm.debian.org:/cvs/webwml checkout

First, the problem does not appear when using CVS from Squeeze (that's
version 1:1.12.13-12+squeeze1). So it looks like it is triggered by a
change in the behaviour there, or some other change in the toolchain.

The segfault appears because at some point requests (defined at
socks.c:87) is not NULL, but no connections have been made yet.

This is strange, because it is defined to be NULL and so should be when
the library gets loaded. If I force it to NULL by modifying
torsocks_init(), then I have no segfaults, by CVS fails with the
following:

cvs [checkout aborted]: internal error: testing support for unknown request?

The patch is the following:

Bug#684356: carnivore: should merge id's based on case insensitive comparing e-mail addresses

retitle 684356 carnivore: should merge id's based on case insensitive comparing

Based on what I read from Bastian Blank and Russ Allbery I think that it is not
an error that both addresses are stored in the carnivore database but that it
still makes sense that carnivore marks both addresses as in use by the same
person.
