Bug#684555: Dolphin stuck in infinite loop with encfs/fuse defaults
Package: dolphin Version: 4:4.8.4-1 Architecture: i386 Subject: Dolphin stuck in infinite loop with encfs/fuse defaults Video available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSG0_qmLndo Deploying an encfs folder with the Debian encfs defaults (allow_root is NOT set, allow_other is NOT set). Dolphin gets into an infinite loop trying to access the folder. Test Method: 1) Have user's home folders mounted on bootup automatically 2) Have user login with KDM, which automatically mounts the encfs folder 3) The folder then can be entered and is browsable at the command line. 4) Try to browse the folder with dolphin 5) Dolphin gets stuck in an infinite loop where the subfolders inside the folder continuously disappear and reappear. Workaround: 1) Edit /etc/security/pam_encfs.conf and add allow_other to the encfs mount. 2) Edit /etc/fuse.conf and add user_allow_other 3) restart PC 4) Dolphin now works as expected. Note that the above edits are not encfs defaults.

Quoting Thomas Goirand (z...@debian.org): One last thing: in our Git, I have already a debian/po/es.po update. I didn't upload the package with it, because of the urgency=high. Was this the correct thing to do (eg: plan for a later upload then unblock), or should I have include the template update? Please give me the release team view on this, so I know how to handle such situation later on. My personal stance on this (so, not the release team view): uploading with the spanish translation would have been OK as it is well known that such updates are anyway accepted. That would save another upload and another freeze exception request later on..:-). But I very well understand you want to give priority to the security fix and not pollute your request with an unrelated change. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#309568: #309568: d-i manual: need to better document CD types and writing
This old bugreport requests to describe the difference between netinst and businesscard image. This is no longer relevant since the businesscard images are not to be generated nowadays. Additionally the bug mentions to document how to write iso images to CD. In the d-i manual there is a link to http://www.debian.org/CD/ which has a prominent link to the FAQ about Debian CDs. And that FAQ describes several methods to create a bootable CD, on different OSses. This should be sufficient. So this bug could be closed. Comments? PS: In https://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2012/08/msg00372.html it was (as a comment to #280348) proposed to provide a link to the CD-FAQ, to have info about cd writing more directly present. Bug#677638: laptop-mode-tools: Breaks wired network when running on battery

On 08/10/2012 11:16 AM, Aurelien Jarno wrote: Hi! jackd2 fails to build from source, as the way to dump registers is slightly different than on 32-bit powerpc. Bug#682672: geoip-database-contrib: Improve download logic in geoip-database-contrib_update
Am 24.07.2012 16:13, schrieb Nelson A. de Oliveira: Package: geoip-database-contrib Version: 1.7 Severity: minor Hi! In geoip-database-contrib_update we can see that it first deletes the old database and then tries to download a new version. I see one small problem here: suppose there is a network problem and it's not possible to download the new database; we stay without the old version (that was removed) and without the new version (that couldn't be downloaded). Are you sure? $FILE is the basename of the downloading URL, which is stripped down to e.g. GeoIPv6.dat.gz. So the first rm -f $FILE only deletes the compressed databases (which are not used). Then: /usr/bin/wget -t3 -T15 -P /usr/share/GeoIP/ $url \ /bin/gunzip -f /usr/share/GeoIP/$FILE So gunzip only will get executed (and so on overwriting the database), if wget was successful (). Would be good if we could stay with the old version if the new one has failed (old data is better than no data). -- /* Mit freundlichem Gruß / With kind regards, Patrick Matthäi GNU/Linux Debian Developer E-Mail: pmatth...@debian.org patr...@linux-dev.org */ signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#684567: unblock: apache2/2.2.22-11
Package: release.debian.org User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Severity: normal Please unblock package apache2. I've attached a git diff of changes since 2.2.22-9 which is currently in Testing. These are changes since then: Close bug #682840 Default /etc/apache2/mods-available/disk_cache.conf is incompatible with ext3. It turned out Apache's default configuration for mod_cache_disk does not work very well under some circumstances causing Apache to stop service. We changed the default to a more moderate setting. This is a non-invasive default configuration change only. However, we need to purge the on-disk cache of users on upgrades. This was fixed in 2.2.22-10 whereas upload 2.2.22-11 makes the handling of the cache directory more secure to avoid link attacks. Close bug #682401 dbmmanage: please use Digest::SHA instead of Digest::SHA1. The Perl modules used by dbmmanage are not shipped in Wheezy. The patch makes dbmmanage work on Wheezy. Switch to xz compression for .deb members. This was done upon request as Apache might end up on Wheezy's CD1 (if we switch to Gnome again) because gnome-user-server reverse depends on it. Close bug #682897: apache2: Directive SSLProtocol should support TLS 1.1+. Add support for TLSv1.0 and TLS in OpenSSL. The SSL Protocol change is important because it allows administrators to work around interopability problems that will doubtless occur with TLS v1.[12] with some buggy clients. Admittedly this is a heavy patch but we think it is of great benefit to Wheezy. It was backported from upstream's Apache 2.4 branch. unblock apache2/2.2.22-11 diff --git a/debian/apache2.2-common.postinst b/debian/apache2.2-common.postinst index 65a565c..a730b9e 100644 --- a/debian/apache2.2-common.postinst +++ b/debian/apache2.2-common.postinst @@ -102,6 +102,23 @@ if [ -e /etc/apache2/disable-other-vhost-access-log.dpkg-apache2.2-common ] ; th rm /etc/apache2/disable-other-vhost-access-log.dpkg-apache2.2-common fi + +# Should run on upgrades from Squeeze or Testing only +# This code existed in parts 2.2.22-10 already but it wasn't complete. +# Thus, users of 2.2.22-10 (only in Sid) enter here as well. Bug#684571: qpsmtpd: SMTP Auth Received: header format causes spam false positives and leaks sensitive information
Package: qpsmtpd Version: 0.84-5 Severity: important Tags: patch Hi, I guess this is two bugs really but the same patch can fix both. When TLS is in use, qpsmtpd creates a Received header of the form Received: from 87.114.148.171.plusnet.thn-ag1.dyn.plus.net (HELO george.localnet) (87.114.148.171) (smtp-auth username XXELIDEDXXX, mechanism cram-md5) by tauism.org (qpsmtpd/0.84) with (AES256-SHA encrypted) ESMTPSA; Thu, 02 Aug 2012 23:04:55 +0100 According to RFC 5322, comments may not appear between with and the protocol. The BNF allows only FWS there, not CFWS. This wholly breaks spam-scanning of authenticated clients with SpamAssassin. If an authorised client connects from a spammy IP address, as above, their mail will not be detected as coming from an SMTP Auth submission as the Qpsmtpd header does not parse correctly, and will therefore probably be marked as spam. X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=6.439 tagged_above=-999 required=5 tests=[ RCVD_IN_BRBL_LASTEXT=1.449, RCVD_IN_PBL=3.335, RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL=0.001, RDNS_DYNAMIC=0.982, whereas the correctly formatted header hits on ALL_TRUSTED: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-24.2 required=5.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,... I'm also not very happy about the amount of detail that Qpsmtpd leaks into relayed mail such as the names of valid SMTP auth logins. This detail concerning a host/account pair may well end up being indexed in public mailing list servers and therefore has significant security implications. The information should go in the logs but not in the Received headers. The attached patch removes both these comment entries from the header. Bug#684573: busybox fails to parse less-than-3-component linux version string
Package: src Version: 1:1.20.0-5 Severity: important Tags: patch upstream Busybox have the same issue with 2-component linux version code as lots of other utils had (discovered when linux 3.0 were released): it just segfaults when such a kernel is used. Thanks, Dominic. - Forwarded message from Andy Isaacson a...@hexapodia.org - Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2012 23:06:05 -0700 From: Andy Isaacson a...@hexapodia.org To: Debian Bug Tracking System sub...@bugs.debian.org Subject: Bug#681849: perl: regex negative lookbehind does not work before $ Package: perl Version: 5.14.2-6 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, The negative look-behind assertion does not work correctly before $ (the end-of-line assertion). I expect to be able to say match lines that do not end in bar using the regex /(?!bar)$/ . However this does not work: % (echo foo; echo bar; echo foobaz) | perl -ne 'print if(/(?!bar)$/)' foo bar foobaz % It should not have printed bar above. A similar pattern using /^(?!bar)/ works to say lines that do not start with bar, and negative look-behind works before a string: # negative lookahead % (echo foo; echo bar; echo foobaz) | perl -ne 'print if(/^(?!foo)/)' bar % # negative lookbehind before string % (echo foo; echo bar; echo foobaz) | sed 's/$/x/g' | \ perl -ne 'print if(/(?!bar)x$/)' foox foobazx % I found a workaround that may shed light on the root cause of the problem. Bug#606825: mingw-w64 triplets/ostable

But at the debconf multiple people thought it has been fixed already, while I don't think it was. One small difference is that in the near future armhf/armel might be a valid cpu architecture for mingw-w64 port. The proposal over here http://wiki.debian.org/Mingw-W64 needs updating to be completely inline with the multi arch spec, since that is now implemented. Any updates? Sorry, I thought I had replied but it appears that was not the case, it was on my radar to come back to it anyway, thanks for the reminder. The main issue I have with this request is that the upstream triplet just seems wrong, as it encodes part of the ABI in the vendor field. That's AFAIR, from reading the thread back then. For dpkg tools the vendor is irrelevant, and having to take it into account would imply changing the underlaying infrastructure which might not be a problem per se, if the reason for requiring this wan't wrong. I take it you're referring to the w64 portion, differenciating MinGW-w64 from MinGW? I've been using the attached patch (which I'll explain further down...) with pretty good results; what would break in dpkg if we wanted correct support for the vendor? Currently I can specify mingw64-x86 as an architecture; wouldn't it be possible to have a mingw-x86 architecture, with the appropriate entries in triplettable and ostable, for MinGW support without any other changes? I'm not sure if it's too late now to consider changing the triplet upstream, I should probable have brought this up long time ago, but then it seemed to be pretty settled down already. :/ I think it is too late, everyone else (MinGW-w64, the many projects using it, and the various other distributions supporting it) has already switched to it. OTOH, is dpkg buildable and usable at all on mingw-w64 systems? I understand though that there might be reasons to want the architecture supported so that cross-building is allowed, but then the request does not seem pressing, and that's one of the reasons I've not acted on it before. As Dmitrijs explained in his reply, all the MinGW-w64 stuff in Debian is likely to only ever support cross-compilation, not end up being a full architecture hosted on Windows. The main reason to have the support in dpkg is to start building the infrastructure required for a partial architecture, so we can more easily provide libraries etc. (see for example http://bugs.debian.org/671437). As to the attached patch, which is based on Jonathan Nieder's last patch, I've added tests to deactivate stack protector and relro on Windows, and more controversially I've added x86 and x64 entries in cputable. The reason for that is two-fold: first, the standard triplet for 32-bit MinGW-w64 is i686-w64-mingw32, and lots of things break when dpkg-dev says i486-w64-mingw32 (as happens with the mingw64-i386 architecture in Jonathan's patch); second, in the Windows world x86 is the canonical name for 32-bit ix86, and x64 that for 64-bit x86-64. Bug#684293: root cause of mount hang in installer [kernel bug]
On Thu 09 Aug 2012 at 13:29:20 +0100, Brian Potkin wrote: Either before or just after selecting a language and configuring the keyboard I executed 'mountmedia' and 'mountmedia driver'. Everything seems to go well, with extended partitions being detected and attempted to be mounted. After selecting cdrom-detect mountmedia stops at the first extended partition it finds. This does not happen with the alpha-1 image and I have no explanation why detecting and mounting the CD-ROM should trigger this behaviour. To follow up on this: The two lines in mountmedia mount $1 -tauto $MNT || true and mount $1 -tauto $MNT can be altered to look explicitly for vfat partitions with -tvfat. Detection and loading of missing firmware then takes place as we would expect. I offer this as an observation, not as a solution, because I'm unsure how it would affect d-i as a whole. After detecting and mounting the CD-ROM the iso9660 filesystem is shown in /proc/filesystems and my thinking is that this may be the cause of the present problem. The installation proceeds as usual if, after loading the installer components. /cdrom is unmounted and the isofs module unloaded from the kernel. When mountmedia hangs it appears to be because -tauto tests for an iso9660 filesystem first and fails with an extended partition. The lsmod output shows two processes using the isofs module. I assume mountmedia cannot go on to look for other partition types until the second process has completed. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#606825: mingw-w64 triplets/ostable
Hi Stephen, Stephen Kitt wrote: [...] I've added tests to deactivate stack protector and relro on Windows, Good. Thanks much for that. and more controversially I've added x86 and x64 entries in cputable. I think that's a no-go, sorry. The problem is that after that change there is no longer one unambiguous Debian arch for each GNU triplet, which breaks - automatic determination of the Debian arch when building dpkg for a new system (less important) - dpkg-architecture -ttriplet -qDEB_HOST_ARCH (very important) If the i386 cputype should behave differently for Windows arches, that could be done more directly, though the use case would have to be strong. If we want convenience synonyms for CPU types (with one being the real one, the rest being for user convenience), that could probably also be done, but I'm not at all convinced it would be worth the confusion. The reason for that is two-fold: first, the standard triplet for 32-bit MinGW-w64 is i686-w64-mingw32, and lots of things break when dpkg-dev says i486-w64-mingw32 Can you spell out this breakage with an example? Is it about the names of cross-compiler programs like i686-w64-mingw32-gcc (which could be addressed with symlinks) or something deeper? Bug#684592: init script returns 1 when ebtables is removed
Package: ebtables Version: 2.0.10.4-1 Severity: important Hi, the ebtables init script contains [ -x /sbin/ebtables ] || exit 1 However, Debian Policy 9.3.2 [1] says: These scripts should not fail obscurely when the configuration files remain but the package has been removed, as configuration files remain on the system after the package has been removed. Only when dpkg is executed with the --purge option will configuration files be removed. In particular, as the /etc/init.d/package script itself is usually a conffile, it will remain on the system if the package is removed but not purged. Therefore, you should include a test statement at the top of the script, like this: test -f program-executed-later-in-script || exit 0 It would be great if you could follow the should here - or are there any reasons not to? I see none from the changelog. Why did you remove those recommendations/suggestions ? That may have been the result of merge issues from 1.3.18-2 back in to what was then for 1.3.19-1, which I thought I had taken care of. I'll check it. That's looks to have been the cause. I think I have it fixed and I'll also be updating what I'm using to do the qa on the packages in order to better check for such things. In preinst: +# Set old_version variable for use later in the script. +old_version=$2 You do not seem to use $old_version later. Drop it. I'll check that as well, as I thought I had a need for it ( it should therefore still be used)... The usage of that variable is intended to make that maintainer script consistent with the others that use the information. I'll fix it, one way or another... severity 680056 grave found 680056 1.2.11-6 thanks Dear Release Team, Please make a decision regarding giving the exception. The vulnerability is serious enough to make the bug RC. The next upstream release is planned for 14 August, it may contain security fixes as well. Thanks, Balint 2012/7/24 Bálint Réczey bal...@balintreczey.hu: Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: freeze-exception Dear Release Team, I would like to update the wireshark package. I can do it two ways: 1. I can pick the two security fixes from 1.8.1 like I'd do if Wheeze have been released already. https://www.wireshark.org/docs/relnotes/wireshark-1.8.1.html 2. I can package 1.8.1 since it is a bugfix release: changes collected for 1.8.1: http://wiki.wireshark.org/Development/Roadmap?action=recallrev=2392 the actual git log: http://anongit.wireshark.org/git/?p=wireshark;a=shortlog;h=refs/tags/wireshark-1.8.1 git diff: http://anongit.wireshark.org/git/?p=wireshark;a=commitdiff;h=refs/tags/wireshark-1.8.1;hp=refs/tags/wireshark-1.8.0 I have also attached the diffstat. I'd prefer option 2 since we are early in the freeze, 1.8.1 is a bugfix release and brings in important stability fixes in addition to the security fixes. So it looks like it is triggered by a change in the behaviour there, or some other change in the toolchain. The segfault appears because at some point requests (defined at socks.c:87) is not NULL, but no connections have been made yet. This is strange, because it is defined to be NULL and so should be when the library gets loaded. If I force it to NULL by modifying torsocks_init(), then I have no segfaults, by CVS fails with the following: cvs [checkout aborted]: internal error: testing support for unknown request?
