I was currently looking at the list of bugs with security tag but not

Noticed that you closed this bug with version 1.4.15-1. Is this
correct? Looking at the code and the information the pach from [2]
still applies and corrects the trash and trashlen. However
 /usr/share/doc/haproxy/configuration.txt.gz clearly says:

 tune.bufsize number
Sets the buffer size to this size (in bytes). Lower values allow more
sessions to coexist in the same amount of RAM, and higher values allow some
applications with very large cookies to work. The default value is 16384 and
can be changed at build time. It is strongly recommended not to change this
from the default value, as very low values will break some services such as
statistics, and values larger than default size will increase memory usage,
possibly causing the system to run out of memory. At least the global
 maxconn
parameter should be decreased by the same factor as this one is increased.

So changing this from non-default value can result in the problem
 (downgrading severity for the bugreport?)

The mentioned patch was only applied 1.4.21 upstream.

Would be great if you could doublecheck my comment above. Or why is it
 fixed in 1.4.15?

Bug#704563: lxc-debconfig fails without additional packages using debootstrap

2013-04-03 Thread Kevin Locke
retitle 704563 Several issues in lxc-ubuntu template
thanks

Turns out I was incorrect about my initial assessment for the cause of
the bug. The --include= error was due to selecting Ubuntu (without
selecting systemd in the preseed), not because Packages was left
blank.

In figuring this out and after working around the issue, I have found
several more issues with the lxc-ubuntu template. If you like, I can
split these issues into separate bug reports. But, since they seem
related (and mostly minor) I'll list them here for now:

(Cosmetic) The following errors are reported from `Chroot apt-get
update` called at lxc-debconfig:574:

Err http://archive.ubuntu.com raring/updates/main i386 Packages
  404  Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1360:8c01::19 80]

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones
used instead.

Because raring/updates/main doesn't exist.

(Minor) The following errors are reported from `dpkg-reconfigure
base-files` called at lxc-debconfig:243:

debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Dialog
debconf: (No usable dialog-like program is installed, so the dialog based
frontend cannot be used. at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Dialog.pm line

line 7.)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Teletype

The first because whiptail, dialog, and Xdialog are not installed, the
second because perl-modules (and the full perl package) are not
installed.

(Minor) The following errors are reported from `apt-get install
live-debconfig` called at lxc-debconfig:282:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Unable to locate package live-debconfig

Obviously, because live-debconfig doesn't exist in Ubuntu. I'm not
sure if the code in Warning should also warn for _DISTRIBUTION raring
or if LXC_DEBCONFIG_WITH_LIVE_DEBCONFIG should not be considered for
Ubuntu, or something else.

(Major) Upstart hangs after lxc-start waiting for /run to be mounted.
I'm not sure whether the best solution is to grant CAP_SYS_ADMIN
(which worked for me) or to add/change upstart configuration files to
avoid depending on events which require these capabilities. Not ideal
in either case.

Thanks,
Kevin

Bug#682413: I have this problem too

2013-04-03 Thread Marc MAURICE
I'm also affected by this, also using an external IBM usb keyboard with
trackpoint.

This is really annoying. I tried to change the trackpoint parameters
with xinput, but I did not managed to have the same feeling I have
with the previous kernel versions.

I confess I'm a Ubuntu user and I'm using an old kernel version (3.2.0)
as a workaround.
But with Manjaro Linux (Archlinux based), with a recent kernel version
(3.7.10), problem is the same.

Do you think we should open a bug in kernel bugtracker?

Bug#704579: dh_python3: Does not define ${python3:Depends} for -dbg packages

2013-04-03 Thread Martin Pitt
Package: python3
Version: 3.2.3-6

Hello,

I noticed that experimental's current python3-gi-dbg package does not
depend on python3-dbg (this was picked up by autopkgtest).
debian/control looks right to me; python-gi-dbg depends on
${python:Depends} and python3-gi-dbg depends on ${python3:Depends},
but it seems that substvar is not defined for -dbg for Python 3; it
does work for Python 2:

debian/python3-gi.substvars:python3:Depends=python3 (= 3.2.3-3~)
debian/python-gi.substvars: python:Depends=python (= 2.7), python (
2.8), python (= 2.7.1-0ubuntu2)
debian/python-gi-dbg.substvars: python:Depends=python-dbg (= 2.7), python-dbg
( 2.8)

But there is no equivalent in debian/python3-gi-dbg.substvars, that
only has

--- 8
misc:Pre-Depends=multiarch-support
shlibs:Depends=libc6 (= 2.14), libcairo2 (= 1.10.0), libgirepository-1.0-1
(= 1.32.1), libglib2.0-0 (= 2.34.2), python3-gi-dbg
--- 8

So it seems dh_python3 should define this properly?

Thanks,

Martin

Bug#704580: src:git: missing README.source with custom patch system

No, maybe thousands just think it's not available at all, just like
me. It's placed there quite illogically.

And it has nothing to do with files or being off-line.

Neither does offline mode have anything to do with files. Yet
interrupting the network operations has something to do with being

Description : internationalization library for Haml templates

Haml::MagicTranslations provides magical translations for the Haml
templating system. Texts in templates can be automatically
internationalized using either the GetText, FastGettext or I18n
libraries. It support translations of 'raw' text, Markdown and even
strings in JavaScript.

Haml::MagicTranslations can also extract translatable strings from
templates and merge them with existing translations, either manually or
by the provided Rake task.

This could be a missing library of some sort.

Hmm... But in what way would then proxy, dbus, and org.chromium.Mtpd
be related?

I notice that the upstream bug mentions using the awesome window
 manager.

And assumes the WM (gnome?) magic would know about/serve all those
things? Sounds insane. Please note (#704492) that it seems to _screw
up my profile_ too.

 What are you all using?

wmaker here, FWIW.

It seems the errors shown above have nothing to do with the real
problem. Some posts suggest the problem is related to audio. Some
old posts (april 2011) show those errors too.

A more interesting thread:

https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=224794

indicates problems related to the proprietary nvidia driver.

Can you suggest some way to attempt to find out what's really failing?
What log-files are most probable to show the real error?

Cheers,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I will try to have second look at it too. If this is correct (needs

tune.bufsize then it might be downgraded to important.

Problem is it is very hard to distinguish between both, unless
you're willing to have a look into the processes hierarchy. In your
case, the best bet is simply add

not_physically_logged_allow = yes

  in /etc/pmount.conf

That should get you going ;-)...

Bug#704585: libgtk2.0-0: XIM input mode indicator for Japanese (with kinput2) is not working right.

2013-04-03 Thread ishikawa
Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.24.10-2
Severity: minor
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation? See below for details.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I posted a possible patch to
   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=240020

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The input mode indicator for XIM input method was not shown correctly.
After the above fix, and replacing im-xim.so with the fixed version,
XIM input mode indicator is now again shown correctly/

This is about a bug in the up-stream package.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696624

However, the upstream seems to be interested in gtk3+ and gtk2+ is in
maintenance mode, and after a week, the bug is still
in unconfirmed state despite my attaching the screen image, and a fix.

Since Debian uses gtk2+ still, and without the patch,
I am sure this is affecting some clueless Japanese users,
I am asking this to be fixed soon in Debian package.

The problem is as follows:

Quoted from the above GNOME project bugzilla URL.

For like 8 months, I have noticed that the input mode indicator for
Japanese input that uses XIM protocol (when I use kinput2 for example)
is not working right when I use TB to write Japanese messages and
such. (And for that matter, this is the same with mozilla's Firefox
(FF) browser, but I don't write lengthy message in Japanese using FF
so often).

The symptom is like this.

Before, when all was well, a small rectangle at the lower-left corner
of TB (or FF) window, attached as an extra small rectangle [not
inside], showed Japanese input mode that uses XIM protocol by using
some Japanese characters to indicate the mode (and I assume Korean or
Chinese characters for people who use XIM input methods to type in
these characters). The character was in black and the background
rectangle was white.

But for like 8 months, the programs, both TB and FF, have shown only
black rectangle and no characters are visible at all there.

The lack of visible input mode is sometimes very irritating because we
can't tell which characters Hiragana, Katakana, we will type in. (Or
if I make a typing mistake and that is why unintended character showed
up instead of using the incorrect mode, etc.)

This problem began happening after an upgrade of Debian packages last
summer and so I suspect that it may have something to do with the
X-related libraries, but I could not figure out exactly why until
yesterday. (I suppose ordinary users can't figure out the cause of
such a problem even though the symptom is easy to describe.)

In a post to a Japanese BBS, I found a mention by an anonymous poster
that explains this as follows:

There seems to have been a problem in GTK2 library. Starting in gtk2
2.21.6, function on_status_window_expose_event() in
modules/input/gtkimcontextxim.c has been changed (to the worse. I
think it means buggy?) If we revert the function,
on_status_window_expose_event(), to a previous code found in 2.21.5
(or earlier), all is well. We can run make below modules/input
directory only, and use im-xim.so thus produced to fix the problem,
etc.

This was posted July 5th, 2012, last year. I wish I had known this
earlier.

I have checked this out and this indeed fixes the problem for me (!).

--- end quote.

The gnome URL has screenshots
and a potential fix.
Useless totally black mode indicator:
https://bug696624.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=239950

Usable mode indicator after the fix:
https://bug696624.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=239951

Instead of reverting the function to an older function,
we can use the latest patch which was posted:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=240020

This uses the newer APIs in the problematic fix that appeared in gtk
2.21.6 and modified a few parameters and all is well with this patch.

I hope Debian can fix this even before the upstream releases the newer
version.

TIA

Aaa, old pmount has no config file and remote users check, right? If
so, you should keep the old behavior by default. Moreover few people use
tty.

No less than 57 bugs were fixed since, including the security issue

I strongly suggest that you upgrade to 1.4.23, or that you pick all

Bug#696899: can anybody sponsor an ITP for premake4 ?

If for nothing else, then it's needed to play ToME

 http://www.te4.org/requirements

You also need the following tools:

a C compiler (like GNU GCC or mingw for windows)
 premake4

and on wnpp.debian.net there are quite a few installs by people.

 http://wnpp.debian.net/?type[]=ITPproject=premakedescription=owner[]=yesowner[]=nocol[]=dustcol[]=typecol[]=descriptioncol[]=installssort=project

Looking forward to somebody doing the same.

P.S. :- I did check if it's stuck in ftp-master NEW queue or something
 but no, it's not there.

 Till l8er.

Well it would be easier to guess what each one did if placing the mouse

alas no. One must cross ones fingers and click each to find out.

Even worse is which icons are currently pushed in (activated) or
popped out (disactivated) ... well there is no visual indication at

In the tree window we click something with the mouse. It turns red and
its text shows up in the text window.
At this point it would be very handy if the four arrows on the keyboard
could select one of its neighbor nodes, as they might be very small and
hard to aim at with the mouse. Alas they do nothing. Note I am talking
about the arrow keyboard keys and not the arrows on the GUI.

And the tentative flag never disappears? You should probably check why
that doesn't happen, as that's what netcfg is waiting for AIUI.

I just tested this configuration and as expected the tentative status
goes away after 2 seconds.

Your ip output includes 'flags 08' which corresponds to IFA_F_DADFAILED
(duplicate address detection failed). Which means either someone else
is already using the address you selected, or else a switch is
reflecting the packets sent during DAD.

Sorry for bothering. I had the IPv6 Address already in use, but not
pingable, so I thought it was not in use.

Everything works fine now.

the merge of the Debian-specific stuff, but if there's anything I
missed, now's your chance to let upstream know.

 [1] https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/bumblebee-ppa/pull/10

I'm ready to sponsor current version of bumblebee, but I'd like to
wait for your confirmation in case you have some action to do with
upstream changes. I committed a small change to bumblebee.preinst,
replacing Ubuntu with the system so that it can be vendor
agnostic. If this needs to be forwarded upstream then please do me a
 favor, thanks.

I'll make a note of that change to be forwarded upstream (together
 with the virtualgl stuff).

Upstream decided to drop the preinst file (which I was hoping for
too), so the above change is no longer relevant anymore.

I intend to upload a new version of primus first (with the changes
made by upstream in [1]). Bumblebee is pretty much done at this point,
so feel free to go ahead and upload it as is, but it's not going to be
very useful without primus. Then again, I expect that
bbswitch+bumblebee will sit in the NEW queue for a while, so it's not
like it'll make a difference in the end. :P

There's been quite a restructuring of the primus packaging lately,
done by upstream; primus now queries the bumblebee daemon when it
comes to picking nouveau/nvidia, instead of relying on environment
variables set in primusrun, so we can now drop primus-nvidia, the
duplicate primusrun scripts, and the maintainer scripts / use of the
alternatives system (i.e. simplifies things a _lot_). However that
also depends on a few changes to bumblebee as well. Hence, would you
be willing to upload the latest bumblebee + primus code from
upstream's git repos (rather than the current stable bumblebee 3.1
release)? (fwiw primus has never really seen a formal 'stable'
release, so it doesn't really matter for primus)

As an aside, I made a comment about the current architecture field of
bbswitch after Ratesh uploaded 0.6, but I suppose you may have missed
them:

Also, why did you opt for Architecture: linux-any for a dkms package?
Everything inside the binary package is installed into an
arch-independent location, so I think it should probably be arch:all
instead, and most dkms packages [1] adhere to being arch:all,
including dkms itself. But since you've explicitly moved the package
from arch:all to arch:linux-any, I'll just leave it be...

There's also the issue that Nvidia Optimus is a feature included only
with Intel+Nvidia AFAIK, hence bbswitch+bumblebee+primus is really
only useful on i386 and amd64 anyways.

Vincent

2013-04-03 Thread Jonathan Dowland
A quick look - sorry for the terse feedback. I don't know much about cdbs which
limits my ability to review it very well.

  • the changelog targets unstable, but should target experimental if you
want an upload prior to wheezy's release
  • Personally in the prior-to-first-upload stage I think it's better to
not have multiple versions for each package revision, i.e., continually
create 4.3-1 versions with a single changelog entry, and to use the
versions only to distinguish instances of the package uploaded to the
main archive.
  • is the double colon in the rules file some kind of cdbs thing?
  • the source package contains debian/stamp-makefile-check
  • rename-changelog.diff: this is the wrong approach to rename a file.
Move it in the debian/rules file instead (after dh_installdocs would
be run. I don't know much about cdbs so not sure which rule to override)

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from

Bug#704598: libc0.1-dev: sys/mount.h requires C99

2013-04-03 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: libc0.1-dev
Version: 2.13-38
Severity: normal

Hi,

currently, using sys/mount.h provided on kFreeBSD by glibc requires
compiling it with C99.

Basically, compiling a very tiny test case like:
vvv
#include sys/mount.h

int main(){return 0;}
^^
$ gcc -D_BSD_SOURCE -std=c90 -o mount mount.c
In file included from mount.c:1:0:
/usr/include/i386-kfreebsd-gnu/sys/mount.h:389:15: error: expected '=', ',',
';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before 'int'

while it succeeds when using -std=c99 (or equivalents).

New packages can be targeted for unstable. I have uploaded many
packages in unstable after freeze

New versions of existing packages, not fixing rc bugs cannot be

Sorry, no.
Even though the lib only is in experimental (only becaused of the freeze)
baseline is unstable.
It doesn't matter whatever is in experimental until that version enters
unstable. Until then this is only important.

Building with experimental gobject-introspection results in the following
 build
 errors:
cc: error: unrecognized command line option '--symbol-prefix=lt'
cc: error: unrecognized command line option '--identifier-prefix=Lt'

Passing the flags meant for the g-ir-scanner using SCANNERFLAGS instead of
 CFLAG fixes this.

Debdiff attached which solves the issue (note the root Makefile.am change was
 done to make autoreconf work..)

Yeah. Got similar report from Björn Michaelsen, too.
Though he mentioned that this were a problem with 4.8...

Good to know.

Then could you add it to Debian's git repo?

As an aside, I made a comment about the current architecture field of
bbswitch after Ratesh uploaded 0.6, but I suppose you may have missed
 them:

Also, why did you opt for Architecture: linux-any for a dkms package?
Everything inside the binary package is installed into an
arch-independent location, so I think it should probably be arch:all
instead, and most dkms packages [1] adhere to being arch:all,
including dkms itself. But since you've explicitly moved the package
from arch:all to arch:linux-any, I'll just leave it be...

AFAIK even though bbswitch does not contain any architecture specific
file, it does not work on other platforms other than linux-any, e.g.
kfreebsd and hurd. So I moved it to linux-any. (And yes, there is dkms
support for kfreebsd.)

There's also the issue that Nvidia Optimus is a feature included only
with Intel+Nvidia AFAIK, hence bbswitch+bumblebee+primus is really
only useful on i386 and amd64 anyways.

Bug#702690: Latest deb still causes problem

2013-04-03 Thread Mike Brodbelt

Hi,

I've just seen this bug crop up with the new deb, so I'm not convinced
it's completely fixed.

FWIW, I manually rebuilt the deb from source on a squeeze host, as I
wanted the newest available cacti package on my monitoring machine.
AFAIK there are no binary components though, so I very much doubt this
made any difference. On installing the new deb, I immediately had the
same tree fail as described here.

When I looked into this bug, I relatively trivially fixed the issue by
installing libjs-jquery-cookie and libjs-jquery from Squeeze backports.
However, the current package lists these as Recommends, and I think
they need to become Depends, as from what I can see the integration of
the earlier patches in this bug means that the Cacti interface will not
function correctly without system versions of these libraries installed.

Please unblock package hdf5

This update fixes several upgrade issues (see #667599 and duplicates)
involving hdf5. While it is not a perfect solution (there are still some
upgrade paths failing), it is an improvement over what is currently in
wheezy. A better solution would require significant reorganization of

Bug#704598: libc0.1-dev: sys/mount.h requires C99

2013-04-03 Thread Steven Chamberlain
Hi Pino,

 $ gcc -D_BSD_SOURCE -std=c90 -o mount mount.c

Do any packages actually do this? Compile with -std=c90 or -ansi or
-std and use this header?

Bug#704603: gnome-core: No alternative dependency to allow removing pulseaudio in gnome-core

2013-04-03 Thread J.D.
Package: gnome-core
Version: 1:3.4+7
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

With the same hardware, several audio bugs I experienced in Debian 7.0
not present in Debian 6.0 appear directly linked to the addition of
PulseAudio. The Debian bug log system already documents dozens more
such PulseAudio bugs.

However, gnome-core now includes a dependency on the bug ridden pulseaudio.
Without an option to remove or replace pulseaudio, Debian 7.0 breaks
applications that reveal bugs in pulseaudio, yielding audio too unreliable
to be useful in several cases and offering no straightforward means of a
reliable transition from Debian 6.0.

For reference, the gnome-core of Debian 6.0 does not include a dependency
on pulseaudio. This dependency must be eliminated from the gnome of
Debian 7.0 or an alternative option that relies on ALSA or another sound
configuration must be provided to avoid destroying reliable audio
functionality.

While gnome-core (along with gnome and task-gnome-desktop) may simply be
removed, creating and adding a dependency on a alternative gnome audio
configuration that works as well as the audio did with Debian 6.0 will
save resources and time for existing Debian users who upgrade to
Debian 7.0 and realize that their applications perform poorly with
pulseaudio.

Audio failures and distortion are not among ideal new features for an
upgrade, especially without a readily accessible alternative that
preserves preexisting features.

Bug#704604: libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64: Invalid configuration file /etc/drirc (according to driconf)

2013-04-03 Thread Ralf Jung
Package: libgl1-mesa-dri
Version: 8.0.5-4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

running driconf with the default /etc/drirc in place results in an error
message:

Configuration file /etc/drirc contains errors:
mandatory application attribute missing
I will leave the file alone until you fix the problem manually or remove the
file.

Comapring /etc/drirc with the ~/.drirc created by driconf, I noticed that the
application
tags in /etc/drirc lack the name attribute, so maybe that's what this error
refers to.
And indeed, adding a name attribute the same value as the executable
attribute
fixes the warning.

Kind regards,
Ralf

Bug#704605: installation-reports: kernel panic Wheezy

2013-04-03 Thread Steven Sciame
Package: installation-reports
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Kernel Panic requiring hard reset possibly having to do with lightdm-gtk-gre

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
On the Wheezy RC1 I installed the linux-image-486 and got a similar result
(kernel panics requiring hard reset), but I was able to use the system for a
few minutes as opposed to panic on startup

   * What was the outcome of this action?
kernel panic

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
a normally functioning system (no kernel panics that lock the system, make it
unusable and require a hard reset)

*** End of the template - remove these lines ***

Comments/Problems:

Two major problems:
1)kernel panic as described above
2)initial attempts to install failed and required a hard reset due to a cryptic
error message(almost illegible): Undefined videomode number: 314. The
workaround for this was to press TAB and set
vga=normal instead of the default setting of 788. The only reason I was able
to decipher this illegible message was to attempt to install Ubuntu 13.04 and I
got the same message that was
readable. The Ubuntu installation did not hang and was going to let me
continue.

Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.

instance the tarfile standard Python module does this for tar files. I
see no reason for why a library for ar archives should fail at such a
basic task. Maybe give upstream some more time to fix things on their
end and get the API right before including it into Debian?

Bug#641449: PATCH: fix shareware references in docs

2013-04-03 Thread Hans de Goede

Hi,

I'm the Fedora package maintainer of arc. We've received a similar bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=947786

I've written a patch to update the included docs to drop the shareware
references. I've left the commented out source-code bits as as, since
patching these out at the distro level is really useless, as the
original tarbal will still have them.

If someone is going to do a new upstream release dropping the commented
parts from arc.c and marc.c makes sense to minimize future confusion.

I've attached my docs patch here, I hope it is useful for Debian too.

Regards,

Hans

The 1.0.0 I intent to use can read ar from any file handle and should
therefore be able to provide exactly that. I have successfully used it
to handle bzip2 compressed ar-archives using python's bzip2 module.

For instance the tarfile standard Python module does this for tar
files. I see no reason for why a library for ar archives should fail
at such a basic task. Maybe give upstream some more time to fix things
on their end and get the API right before including it into Debian?

Once you do that, you should not see the installation failure and you

Installing libjs-jquery 1.4.2-2 from squeeze instead of wheezys

Trac should probably always use a versioned depend on the right

 Dear Maintainer,

After updating my system to wheezy, and in particular the
 xserver-xorg-video-ati package to version 1:6.14.4-8, I
now suffer from a similar issue.

I have two monitors. The right one, and only the right one, randomly
 turns off and on.

 * I use the default Xorg configuration and setup dual monitors
   using xrandr --output DVI-0 --left-of DVI-1 --auto.

 * The two monitors are identical models: SAMSUNG SyncMasterB1940.
The problem does not seem to be in the monitors: when I swap the two DVI
connectors, the left one starts to flicker on and off and the right
   one works flawlessly.

 * If I run xset dpms force off the problems disappears completely.

To clarify, do you mean that after a dpms cycle both monitors work
correctly? Does a newer kernel help? 3.2 is pretty old. There were
a number of display related fixes that went into 3.7 for example.

 agree.

I strongly suggest you to read pbuilder source to learn how to get the

FYI, I'm not a DD, but sometimes need to build packages to test

Then, you need to learn pbuilder.

This is because the bz2 module supports seeking. A pipe usually does not
support seeking. Try reading from sys.stdin. I had to write my own ar
implementation for dedup.debian.net[1], because all the ones around
including arpy suck at streams. It really is not that hard to get this
right. So I ask you to delay uploading arpy to Debian until upstream has
fixed their API to support streaming reads.

Here is a test case to see the brokenness:

cat test/bsd_mixed.ar | python -c 'import arpy, sys;
print(arpy.Archive(fileobj=sys.stdin).read_next_header())'

[1] You can find the source in the git repo mentioned on the site and I
can relicense it for inclusion into arpy, but it is fairly minimal
to just support the bits that I needed. But then again arpy is
pretty minimal too.

Bug#704608: apt: FileFd issues

2013-04-03 Thread Niels Thykier
Package: apt
Severity: normal

Reviewing some APT code I noticed a couple of possible issues in
FileFd.

In FileFd::OpenDescriptor(int Fd, unsigned int const,
  APT::Configuration::Compressor const , bool):

  [...]
  Flags = (AutoClose) ? FileFd::AutoClose : 0;
if (AutoClose == false [... compress is one of gzip/bzip2...])
  {
// Need to duplicate fd here or gzclose for cleanup will close the fd as
well
  iFd = dup(Fd);
  }
  else
 iFd = Fd;
  [...]
  if (OpenInternDescriptor(Mode, compressor) == false)
  {
 if (AutoClose)
close (iFd);
 return _error-Errno(gzdopen,_(Could not open file descriptor %d), Fd);
  }
  return true;

If OpenInternDescriptor fails, iFd will be closed if AutoClose is true
but it is not set to -1. Since Flags have been set to
FileFd::AutoClose, the destructor will (via Close()) attempt to close
iFd again. This is like to fail with EBADF given it was already
closed. This given the (minor?) side-effect of causing an error being
pushed on to the _error handler (but otherwise should not cause any
issues AFAICT).

The auto-close behaviour of OpenDescriptor(...) is in general
inconsistent in regard to the input fd. The method above, it will
close the input file descriptor (due to iFd=Fd). But the other
OpenDescriptor method will not close that handle on error. This is
very unhealthy because the caller has no way of knowing what state the
fd will be in on error[2].
At least OpenMaybeClearSignedFile appears to rely on the fd being
closed on error by OpenDescriptor.

~Niels

[1] Here I could have used a comment saying there is no need to check
the return value of dup because that OpenInternDescriptor will
eventually do it for us. Anyway.

[2] Admittedly the other errors seem unlikely to occur in any
pratical use of OpenDescriptor, but still.

Work with upstream to address the remaining issue. There already are way
too many incomplete implementations. Similarly I had to put packaging
python-ssdeep on hold, because the upstream software has too many severe
issues. Not every software on the planet is worth including in Debian as
is and arpy needlessly fails at a very basic task.

The main problem here is that as far as I can see the API will have to
change in order to address this legitimate use case. Once a library has
larger adoption, changing it is harder and this issue will never be
fixed. Better do it now before exposing in Debian. I even provided a
proof of concept for how to do it.

Failure to insist on getting this right will just result in multiple ar
parsing libraries. I imagine that one version can read all the variants,
another one can read from stdin, a third one can write. This is a
disservice to our users and wastes resources (especially in package
lists).

So maybe we can work on a solution here? I'll try to patch arpy to
support this use case. Give me a week?

Coquelicot is a one-click file sharing web application with a focus on

Basic principle: users can upload a file to the server, in return they
get a unique URL which can be shared with others in order to download

Bug#704613: cdebootstrap: signature verification bypass with manipulated InRelease file

2013-04-03 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Package: cdebootstrap
Version: 0.5.9
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Usertags: gpg-clearsign

cdebootstrap can be tricked into unsigned data from an InRelease file.
This makes the verification of the gpg signature useless.

The particular bug here is in libdebian-installer (0.85)'s parser. It
treats -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- NOT as a marker for the
start of the signed data (which it obviously isn't).

So one can prepend a InRelease file looking like

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- NOT
Hash: SHA1

insert malicious Release file contents here

-BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- NOT

to a valid InRelease file. gpgv will see the signature in the later part
and report that there is no problem, but cdebootstrap will use the first
part of the file.

The easy workaround is to disable InRelease support which was already
done for apt. Other options are splitting InRelease into Release and
Release.gpg and verifying those OR using gpg to both extract the signed
data and check the signature.

Bug#703508: texttopdf should be also available as a standalone application

2013-04-03 Thread Didier 'OdyX' Raboud
Control: tags -1 +upstream

Hi Ivan, and thanks for your bugreport,

Le mercredi, 20 mars 2013 13.34:09, Ivan Shmakov a écrit :
Now that both GNU a2ps and GNU Enscript are no longer actively
maintained, and have as of yet unresolved issues with their
integration into the modern Debian GNU system (such as: proper
UTF-8 and Fontconfig support), the ‘texttopdf’ filter (as
provided by the cups-filters package) seems virtually the only
sensible way to perform “plain text” to PDF conversion.

Therefore, my suggestion would be to perform whatever minor
modifications necessary to make ‘texttopdf’ also available as a
stand-alone (as in: /usr/bin) program, and provide some
documentation (such as a manual page.)

This looks like a worthwhile suggestion, but is more of upstream realm.

Till: what do you think ? Would it be possible to have a separate texttopdf
binary and have cups-filters have only a symlink / wrapper around it as
filter?

Cheers, OdyX

Bug#704257: empathy / LTSP problems?

2013-04-03 Thread Daniel Pocock

We do not yet have access to an LTSP server running Wheezy.
But I could run a test on a Wheezy server through X2Go
(X2Go is another X thin client solution).

Bad news : neither Empathy nor Emerillon work on Wheezy through X2Go.

Thanks for this feedback - your experience on wheezy looks a lot like
bug #704257 - I am sending your comments there as it appears to be the
same problem.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=704257

The release team have stated this is not a bug though, I'm not sure how
they intend this to work. As a workaround, can you try installing the
missing mesa package (see bug details) and see if that fixes the error
for you?

 Empathy says :

(empathy:105798): Clutter-CRITICAL **: Unable to initialize Clutter: Failed
 to connected to any renderer:
XServer appears to lack required GLX support

 (empathy:105798): empathy-CRITICAL **: main: assertion `gtk_clutter_init
 (argc, argv) == CLUTTER_INIT_SUCCESS' failed

 Emerillon says :

Failed to connected to any renderer:
XServer appears to lack required GLX support
Run 'emerillon --help' to see a list of available command line options.

To be able to have full control over the syncing process between your

I really hope this isn't the planned long description!
Please write something better.
