If this explanation is unsatisfactory and you have not received a better one in a separate message then please contact Luk Claes l...@debian.org by replying to this email. I was currently looking at the list of bugs with security tag but not tracked in the security tracker[1] and noticed #674447. [1]: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=security;users=debian-secur...@lists.debian.org;exclude=tracked Noticed that you closed this bug with version 1.4.15-1. Is this correct? Looking at the code and the information the pach from [2] still applies and corrects the trash and trashlen. However /usr/share/doc/haproxy/configuration.txt.gz clearly says: tune.bufsize number Sets the buffer size to this size (in bytes). Lower values allow more sessions to coexist in the same amount of RAM, and higher values allow some applications with very large cookies to work. The default value is 16384 and can be changed at build time. It is strongly recommended not to change this from the default value, as very low values will break some services such as statistics, and values larger than default size will increase memory usage, possibly causing the system to run out of memory. At least the global maxconn parameter should be decreased by the same factor as this one is increased. So changing this from non-default value can result in the problem (downgrading severity for the bugreport?) Bug#704563: lxc-debconfig fails without additional packages using debootstrap
retitle 704563 Several issues in lxc-ubuntu template thanks Turns out I was incorrect about my initial assessment for the cause of the bug. The --include= error was due to selecting Ubuntu (without selecting systemd in the preseed), not because Packages was left blank. In figuring this out and after working around the issue, I have found several more issues with the lxc-ubuntu template. If you like, I can split these issues into separate bug reports. But, since they seem related (and mostly minor) I'll list them here for now: (Cosmetic) The following errors are reported from `Chroot apt-get update` called at lxc-debconfig:574: Err http://archive.ubuntu.com raring/updates/main i386 Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1360:8c01::19 80] Err http://archive.ubuntu.com raring/updates/restricted i386 Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1360:8c01::19 80] Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com raring/updates/main Translation-en Ign http://archive.ubuntu.com raring/updates/restricted Translation-en W: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/raring/updates/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1360:8c01::19 80] W: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/raring/updates/restricted/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1360:8c01::19 80] E: Some index files failed to download. Bug#682413: I have this problem too
I'm also affected by this, also using an external IBM usb keyboard with trackpoint. This is really annoying. I tried to change the trackpoint parameters with xinput, but I did not managed to have the same feeling I have with the previous kernel versions. I confess I'm a Ubuntu user and I'm using an old kernel version (3.2.0) as a workaround. But with Manjaro Linux (Archlinux based), with a recent kernel version (3.7.10), problem is the same. And assumes the WM (gnome?) magic would know about/serve all those things? Sounds insane. Please note (#704492) that it seems to _screw up my profile_ too. What are you all using? wmaker here, FWIW. It seems the errors shown above have nothing to do with the real problem. Some posts suggest the problem is related to audio. Some old posts (april 2011) show those errors too. A more interesting thread: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=224794 indicates problems related to the proprietary nvidia driver. Can you suggest some way to attempt to find out what's really failing? What log-files are most probable to show the real error? Bug#704585: libgtk2.0-0: XIM input mode indicator for Japanese (with kinput2) is not working right.
Package: libgtk2.0-0 Version: 2.24.10-2 Severity: minor Tags: upstream Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? See below for details. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I posted a possible patch to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=240020 * What was the outcome of this action? The input mode indicator for XIM input method was not shown correctly. After the above fix, and replacing im-xim.so with the fixed version, XIM input mode indicator is now again shown correctly/ This is about a bug in the up-stream package. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696624 However, the upstream seems to be interested in gtk3+ and gtk2+ is in maintenance mode, and after a week, the bug is still in unconfirmed state despite my attaching the screen image, and a fix. Since Debian uses gtk2+ still, and without the patch, I am sure this is affecting some clueless Japanese users, I am asking this to be fixed soon in Debian package. The problem is as follows: Quoted from the above GNOME project bugzilla URL. For like 8 months, I have noticed that the input mode indicator for Japanese input that uses XIM protocol (when I use kinput2 for example) is not working right when I use TB to write Japanese messages and such. (And for that matter, this is the same with mozilla's Firefox (FF) browser, but I don't write lengthy message in Japanese using FF so often). The symptom is like this. Before, when all was well, a small rectangle at the lower-left corner of TB (or FF) window, attached as an extra small rectangle [not inside], showed Japanese input mode that uses XIM protocol by using some Japanese characters to indicate the mode (and I assume Korean or Chinese characters for people who use XIM input methods to type in these characters). The character was in black and the background rectangle was white. But for like 8 months, the programs, both TB and FF, have shown only black rectangle and no characters are visible at all there. The lack of visible input mode is sometimes very irritating because we can't tell which characters Hiragana, Katakana, we will type in. (Or if I make a typing mistake and that is why unintended character showed up instead of using the incorrect mode, etc.) This problem began happening after an upgrade of Debian packages last summer and so I suspect that it may have something to do with the X-related libraries, but I could not figure out exactly why until yesterday. (I suppose ordinary users can't figure out the cause of such a problem even though the symptom is easy to describe.) In a post to a Japanese BBS, I found a mention by an anonymous poster that explains this as follows: There seems to have been a problem in GTK2 library. Starting in gtk2 2.21.6, function on_status_window_expose_event() in modules/input/gtkimcontextxim.c has been changed (to the worse. I think it means buggy?) If we revert the function, on_status_window_expose_event(), to a previous code found in 2.21.5 (or earlier), all is well. We can run make below modules/input directory only, and use im-xim.so thus produced to fix the problem, etc. This was posted July 5th, 2012, last year. I wish I had known this earlier. I have checked this out and this indeed fixes the problem for me (!). --- end quote. The gnome URL has screenshots and a potential fix. Useless totally black mode indicator: https://bug696624.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=239950 Usable mode indicator after the fix: https://bug696624.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=239951 Instead of reverting the function to an older function, we can use the latest patch which was posted: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=240020 This uses the newer APIs in the problematic fix that appeared in gtk 2.21.6 and modified a few parameters and all is well with this patch. I hope Debian can fix this even before the upstream releases the newer version. I think by now we've sorted out more or less all of the remaining issues that are blocking the merge of the Debian-specific stuff, but if there's anything I missed, now's your chance to let upstream know. Regards, Vincent [1] https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/bumblebee-ppa/pull/10 I'm ready to sponsor current version of bumblebee, but I'd like to wait for your confirmation in case you have some action to do with upstream changes. I committed a small change to bumblebee.preinst, replacing Ubuntu with the system so that it can be vendor agnostic. If this needs to be forwarded upstream then please do me a favor, thanks. I'll make a note of that change to be forwarded upstream (together with the virtualgl stuff). Upstream decided to drop the preinst file (which I was hoping for too), so the above change is no longer relevant anymore. I intend to upload a new version of primus first (with the changes made by upstream in [1]). Bumblebee is pretty much done at this point, so feel free to go ahead and upload it as is, but it's not going to be very useful without primus. Then again, I expect that bbswitch+bumblebee will sit in the NEW queue for a while, so it's not like it'll make a difference in the end. :P There's been quite a restructuring of the primus packaging lately, done by upstream; primus now queries the bumblebee daemon when it comes to picking nouveau/nvidia, instead of relying on environment variables set in primusrun, so we can now drop primus-nvidia, the duplicate primusrun scripts, and the maintainer scripts / use of the alternatives system (i.e. simplifies things a _lot_). However that also depends on a few changes to bumblebee as well. Hence, would you be willing to upload the latest bumblebee + primus code from upstream's git repos (rather than the current stable bumblebee 3.1 release)? (fwiw primus has never really seen a formal 'stable' release, so it doesn't really matter for primus) As an aside, I made a comment about the current architecture field of bbswitch after Ratesh uploaded 0.6, but I suppose you may have missed them: Also, why did you opt for Architecture: linux-any for a dkms package? Everything inside the binary package is installed into an arch-independent location, so I think it should probably be arch:all instead, and most dkms packages [1] adhere to being arch:all, including dkms itself. But since you've explicitly moved the package from arch:all to arch:linux-any, I'll just leave it be... There's also the issue that Nvidia Optimus is a feature included only with Intel+Nvidia AFAIK, hence bbswitch+bumblebee+primus is really only useful on i386 and amd64 anyways. Hi, On Wed, Apr 03, 2013 at 01:10:09PM +0200, Bjoern Michaelsen wrote: Patch 3: The introspection stuff uses --symbol-prefix and --Identifier-prefix CFLAGS, both of which are ignored at least on gcc 4.8. So I would rather not build introspection at all until this is properly fixed. @Rene: Please consider, I fear as is the introspection packages might cause more trouble than they are solving. Seems to be also a problem with earlier gccs: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=704517 (which has a patch, so we don't need to disable this gir stuff - for whatever this is needed.) I think by now we've sorted out more or less all of the remaining issues that are blocking the merge of the Debian-specific stuff, but if there's anything I missed, now's your chance to let upstream know. Good to know. (fwiw primus has never really seen a formal 'stable' release, so it doesn't really matter for primus) Then could you add it to Debian's git repo? As an aside, I made a comment about the current architecture field of bbswitch after Ratesh uploaded 0.6, but I suppose you may have missed them: Also, why did you opt for Architecture: linux-any for a dkms package? Everything inside the binary package is installed into an arch-independent location, so I think it should probably be arch:all instead, and most dkms packages [1] adhere to being arch:all, including dkms itself. But since you've explicitly moved the package from arch:all to arch:linux-any, I'll just leave it be... AFAIK even though bbswitch does not contain any architecture specific file, it does not work on other platforms other than linux-any, e.g. kfreebsd and hurd. So I moved it to linux-any. (And yes, there is dkms support for kfreebsd.) There's also the issue that Nvidia Optimus is a feature included only with Intel+Nvidia AFAIK, hence bbswitch+bumblebee+primus is really only useful on i386 and amd64 anyways. Bug#702690: Latest deb still causes problem
Hi, I've just seen this bug crop up with the new deb, so I'm not convinced it's completely fixed. FWIW, I manually rebuilt the deb from source on a squeeze host, as I wanted the newest available cacti package on my monitoring machine. AFAIK there are no binary components though, so I very much doubt this made any difference. On installing the new deb, I immediately had the same tree fail as described here. When I looked into this bug, I relatively trivially fixed the issue by installing libjs-jquery-cookie and libjs-jquery from Squeeze backports. However, the current package lists these as Recommends, and I think they need to become Depends, as from what I can see the integration of the earlier patches in this bug means that the Cacti interface will not function correctly without system versions of these libraries installed. Bug#704603: gnome-core: No alternative dependency to allow removing pulseaudio in gnome-core
Package: gnome-core Version: 1:3.4+7 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, With the same hardware, several audio bugs I experienced in Debian 7.0 not present in Debian 6.0 appear directly linked to the addition of PulseAudio. The Debian bug log system already documents dozens more such PulseAudio bugs. However, gnome-core now includes a dependency on the bug ridden pulseaudio. Without an option to remove or replace pulseaudio, Debian 7.0 breaks applications that reveal bugs in pulseaudio, yielding audio too unreliable to be useful in several cases and offering no straightforward means of a reliable transition from Debian 6.0. For reference, the gnome-core of Debian 6.0 does not include a dependency on pulseaudio. This dependency must be eliminated from the gnome of Debian 7.0 or an alternative option that relies on ALSA or another sound configuration must be provided to avoid destroying reliable audio functionality. While gnome-core (along with gnome and task-gnome-desktop) may simply be removed, creating and adding a dependency on a alternative gnome audio configuration that works as well as the audio did with Debian 6.0 will save resources and time for existing Debian users who upgrade to Debian 7.0 and realize that their applications perform poorly with pulseaudio. Audio failures and distortion are not among ideal new features for an upgrade, especially without a readily accessible alternative that preserves preexisting features. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-core depends on: ii at-spi2-core2.5.3-2 ii baobab 3.4.1-1 ii brasero 3.4.1-4 ii caribou 0.4.4-1 ii caribou-antler 0.4.4-1 ii dconf-gsettings-backend 0.12.1-3 ii dconf-tools 0.12.1-3 ii empathy 3.4.2.3-2 ii eog 3.4.2-1+build1 ii evince 3.4.0-3.1 ii evolution-data-server 3.4.4-3 ii fonts-cantarell 0.0.9-1 ii gcalctool 6.4.2.1-3 ii gconf2 3.2.5-1+build1 ii gdm33.4.1-6 ii gkbd-capplet3.4.0.2-1 ii glib-networking 2.32.3-1 ii gnome-backgrounds 3.4.2-1 ii gnome-bluetooth 3.4.2-1 ii gnome-contacts 3.4.1-1+b1 ii gnome-control-center1:3.4.3.1-2 ii gnome-dictionary3.4.0-2 ii gnome-disk-utility 3.0.2-3 ii gnome-font-viewer 3.4.0-2 ii gnome-icon-theme3.4.0-2 ii gnome-icon-theme-extras 3.4.0-1 ii gnome-icon-theme-symbolic 3.4.0-2 ii gnome-keyring 3.4.1-5 ii gnome-menus 3.4.2-5 ii gnome-online-accounts 3.4.2-2 ii gnome-packagekit3.4.2-2 ii gnome-panel 3.4.2.1-4 ii gnome-power-manager 3.4.0-2 ii gnome-screensaver 3.4.1-1 ii gnome-screenshot3.4.1-1 ii gnome-session 3.4.2.1-3 ii gnome-session-fallback 3.4.2.1-3 ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.2+git20121218.7c1322-3 ii gnome-shell 3.4.2-7 ii gnome-sushi 0.4.1-3 ii gnome-system-log3.4.1-3 ii gnome-system-monitor3.4.1-2+b1 ii gnome-terminal 3.4.1.1-2 ii gnome-themes-standard 3.4.2-2.1 ii gnome-user-guide3.4.2-1+build1 ii gnome-user-share3.0.2-1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas 3.4.2-3 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.36-1.1 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.31-3+nmu1 ii gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio0.10.31-3+nmu1 ii gtk2-engines1:2.20.2-2 ii gucharmap 1:3.4.1.1-2.1 ii gvfs-backends 1.12.3-4 ii gvfs-bin1.12.3-4 ii iceweasel 10.0.12esr-1 ii libatk-adaptor 2.5.3-2 ii libcanberra-pulse 0.28-6 ii libcaribou-gtk-module 0.4.4-1 ii libcaribou-gtk3-module 0.4.4-1 ii libgtk-3-common 3.4.2-6 ii libpam-gnome-keyring3.4.1-5 ii metacity1:2.34.3-4 ii mousetweaks 3.4.2-1 ii nautilus3.4.2-1+build1 ii notification-daemon 0.7.6-1 ii policykit-1-gnome 0.105-2 ii pulseaudio 2.0-6 ii sound-theme-freedesktop 0.7.pristine-2 ii tracker-gui 0.14.1-3 ii vino3.4.2-1+b1 ii yelp3.4.2-1+b1 ii zenity 3.4.0-2 Versions of packages gnome-core recommends: ii network-manager-gnome 0.9.4.1-5 Versions of packages gnome-core suggests: ii gnome 1:3.4+7 Versions of packages pulseaudio depends on: ii adduser

Bug#641449: PATCH: fix shareware references in docs
Hi, I'm the Fedora package maintainer of arc. We've received a similar bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=947786 I've written a patch to update the included docs to drop the shareware references. I've left the commented out source-code bits as as, since patching these out at the distro level is really useless, as the original tarbal will still have them. If someone is going to do a new upstream release dropping the commented parts from arc.c and marc.c makes sense to minimize future confusion. I've attached my docs patch here, I hope it is useful for Debian too. Well I need a arfile implementation independant of Debian (for non-debian-specific software). arpy provides exactly that. Asking Fedora or even Windows users to install python-debian for not-at-all Debian related software seems a bit strange. There is one feature I missed in python-debian's arfile implementation, but this isn't present in arpy either: Being able to interpret an archive read from a pipe. The 1.0.0 I intent to use can read ar from any file handle and should therefore be able to provide exactly that. So I ask you to delay uploading arpy to Debian until upstream has fixed their API to support streaming reads. Bug#704608: apt: FileFd issues
Package: apt Severity: normal Reviewing some APT code I noticed a couple of possible issues in FileFd. In FileFd::OpenDescriptor(int Fd, unsigned int const, APT::Configuration::Compressor const , bool): [...] Flags = (AutoClose) ? FileFd::AutoClose : 0; if (AutoClose == false [... compress is one of gzip/bzip2...]) { // Need to duplicate fd here or gzclose for cleanup will close the fd as well iFd = dup(Fd); } else iFd = Fd; [...] if (OpenInternDescriptor(Mode, compressor) == false) { if (AutoClose) close (iFd); return _error-Errno(gzdopen,_(Could not open file descriptor %d), Fd); } return true; If OpenInternDescriptor fails, iFd will be closed if AutoClose is true but it is not set to -1. Since Flags have been set to FileFd::AutoClose, the destructor will (via Close()) attempt to close iFd again. This is like to fail with EBADF given it was already closed. This given the (minor?) side-effect of causing an error being pushed on to the _error handler (but otherwise should not cause any issues AFAICT). The auto-close behaviour of OpenDescriptor(...) is in general inconsistent in regard to the input fd. The method above, it will close the input file descriptor (due to iFd=Fd). But the other OpenDescriptor method will not close that handle on error. This is very unhealthy because the caller has no way of knowing what state the fd will be in on error[2]. At least OpenMaybeClearSignedFile appears to rely on the fd being closed on error by OpenDescriptor. ~Niels [1] Here I could have used a comment saying there is no need to check the return value of dup because that OpenInternDescriptor will eventually do it for us. Anyway. [2] Admittedly the other errors seem unlikely to occur in any pratical use of OpenDescriptor, but still. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Work with upstream to address the remaining issue. There already are way too many incomplete implementations. Similarly I had to put packaging python-ssdeep on hold, because the upstream software has too many severe issues. Not every software on the planet is worth including in Debian as is and arpy needlessly fails at a very basic task. The main problem here is that as far as I can see the API will have to change in order to address this legitimate use case. Once a library has larger adoption, changing it is harder and this issue will never be fixed. Better do it now before exposing in Debian. I even provided a proof of concept for how to do it. Failure to insist on getting this right will just result in multiple ar parsing libraries. I imagine that one version can read all the variants, another one can read from stdin, a third one can write. This is a disservice to our users and wastes resources (especially in package lists). So maybe we can work on a solution here? I'll try to patch arpy to support this use case. Give me a week? Bug#599253: empathy / LTSP problems?
We do not yet have access to an LTSP server running Wheezy. But I could run a test on a Wheezy server through X2Go (X2Go is another X thin client solution). Bad news : neither Empathy nor Emerillon work on Wheezy through X2Go. Empathy says : (empathy:105798): Clutter-CRITICAL **: Unable to initialize Clutter: Failed to connected to any renderer: XServer appears to lack required GLX support (empathy:105798): empathy-CRITICAL **: main: assertion `gtk_clutter_init (argc, argv) == CLUTTER_INIT_SUCCESS' failed Emerillon says : Failed to connected to any renderer: XServer appears to lack required GLX support Run 'emerillon --help' to see a list of available command line options. -- Sébastien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#704613: cdebootstrap: signature verification bypass with manipulated InRelease file
Package: cdebootstrap Version: 0.5.9 Severity: grave Tags: security Usertags: gpg-clearsign cdebootstrap can be tricked into unsigned data from an InRelease file. This makes the verification of the gpg signature useless. The particular bug here is in libdebian-installer (0.85)'s parser. It treats -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- NOT as a marker for the start of the signed data (which it obviously isn't). So one can prepend a InRelease file looking like -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- NOT Hash: SHA1 insert malicious Release file contents here -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- NOT to a valid InRelease file. gpgv will see the signature in the later part and report that there is no problem, but cdebootstrap will use the first part of the file. The easy workaround is to disable InRelease support which was already done for apt. Other options are splitting InRelease into Release and Release.gpg and verifying those OR using gpg to both extract the signed data and check the signature. Bug#704614: chromium: stuttering audio
Package: chromium Version: 26.0.1410.43-1 Severity: normal Control: forwarded -1 https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=224046 After upgrading chromium from 25 to 26, I noticed stuttering audio on YouTube with the HTML5 viewer (with gnash it is normal). This has been experienced by others as well and reported at https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=224046; the suggested workaround of adding --audio-buffer-size=2048 to the commandline works for me. Bug#703508: texttopdf should be also available as a standalone application
Control: tags -1 +upstream Hi Ivan, and thanks for your bugreport, Le mercredi, 20 mars 2013 13.34:09, Ivan Shmakov a écrit : Now that both GNU a2ps and GNU Enscript are no longer actively maintained, and have as of yet unresolved issues with their integration into the modern Debian GNU system (such as: proper UTF-8 and Fontconfig support), the ‘texttopdf’ filter (as provided by the cups-filters package) seems virtually the only sensible way to perform “plain text” to PDF conversion. Therefore, my suggestion would be to perform whatever minor modifications necessary to make ‘texttopdf’ also available as a stand-alone (as in: /usr/bin) program, and provide some documentation (such as a manual page.) This looks like a worthwhile suggestion, but is more of upstream realm. Till: what do you think ? Would it be possible to have a separate texttopdf binary and have cups-filters have only a symlink / wrapper around it as filter?
