Bug#730609: gdm3: Laptop does not suspend when lid is closed

2013-11-26 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.8.4-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

when using gdm3 3.6.4 after closing the Lid my laptop went into suspend
to RAM which is the expected behaviour also when working with any
desktop environment I know also after loging in. Since I upgraded to
gdm3 in Jessie this does not happen any more.

The following works: Loging in via ssh and suspend manually. In this
case I can go back to the loginscreen by pressing a random key.
However, it does not work if I use the suspend (in German locale
"Bereitschaft") from the menu at the switch in the upper right corner.
If I suspend with this method after reopening the lid the login screen
is not accessible and only the clock (screensaver mode???) and some
arrow animation running from bottom into the direction of this clock.
The only available control is a Battery symbol in the upper right
corner. When I click on it I can adjust speaker and microphone but
nothing else.

When gdm is not working usually it worked to `/etc/init.d/gdm3 restart`.
I also tried this but even a `/etc/init.d/gdm3 stop` did not killed the
X screen. I manually `kill -9`-ed any process displayed at
`ps ax | grep gdm` which left me with a black screen and a frozen mouse
cursor.  I now tried

$ sudo /etc/init.d/gdm3 start
[ ok ] Starting GNOME Display Manager: gdm3.

... but there is actually no successfull start of gdm. Sometimes it
happens that switching to text console and than choosing -F8 brings
you to the correct screen but this is not used and -F7 remains at
the black non-working screen.

I tried to downgrade to the previous version of gdm3 3.6.1-2 which endet
up in a dependency djungle which does not sound like a clever idea.

Kind regards and thanks for maintaining gdm

Andreas.

I've actually done this already here a couple of weeks ago to reduce the
upstream diff but didn't get around to test if the upgrade works as
expected when the unit name changes (since we don't stop the service in
the preinst). Now that I read the below it was a good idea to not upload
without proper testing.

I wasn't aware of that. So a symlink would be the better solution once
this is fixed.

As a interim solution we could add a libvirtd alias if it breaks other
software.

Bug#730604: libvirt-bin: Please rename libvirt-bin.service back to libvirtd.service and use symlink or Alias= instead

2013-11-26 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Package: libvirt-bin
Version: 1.1.4-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Could you please rename back the libvirt-bin.service systemd service
file to libvirtd.service and use a symlink (libvirtd.service ->
libvirt-bin.service) or add Alias=libvirt-bin.service in the service
file instead.

Other upstream project are expecting the service to be called
libvirtd.service and I guess this would be a good idea to not change
this expectation in debian.

There was some discussion about using a symlink vs Alias= on the bug
#719695, maybe a systemd maintainer could tell us the status of this?

Cheers

This is actually #728361. As a workaround until things have settled down
one way or another, you can remove libpam-systemd or use any other
workaround present in the bug report.

Bug#730603: lxc is drifting away from upstream

2013-11-26 Thread Harald Dunkel
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Package: lxc
Version: 1.0.0~alpha3-1
Severity: wishlist

I am pretty concerned about lines like this in debian/rules:

rm -f debian/tmp/usr/bin/lxc-ls # superseeded by local version until python-lxc
is ready
rm -f debian/tmp/usr/share/lxc/templates/lxc-ubuntu # currently broken

Upstream's lxc builds and runs fine on Wheezy and Sid (except
for the missing SYSV init script). lxc-ls and the Python
integration don't appear to be a problem.

Since Upstream dropped lxc-list in favor of the "real" lxc-ls
I have the impression that LXC for Debian is drifting away
from upstream, which makes supporting other projects (e.g.
lxc-docker) more difficult.

Do you think it would be possible to get rid of the "Debian
specialties" in the lxc package? When version 1.0 is out it
might be too late.

Harri

Hi,

I have the go-ahead from OpenRC upstream (eg: Patrick Lauer) so please
consider the OpenRC page as finalized as well.

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo)

P.S: Sorry for the delay. As I wrote previously, I had personal and
professional events which delayed this task.

I'd appreciate any review/sponsor for getting them in.

Bug#730599: makeinfo -D 'var value' doesn't work

2013-11-26 Thread GUO Yixuan
Package: texinfo
Version: 5.2.0.dfsg.1-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hello,

In new versions of texinfo, the behaviour of makeinfo -D option changed
so that the -D "variable value" no longer works.

eg.

$ cat test.texi
@value{var1}
$ # older version (4.13)
$ makeinfo -v -D 'var1 foo' -o test.info test.texi
makeinfo (GNU texinfo) 4.13
Making info file `test.info' from `test.texi'.
$ cat test.info
This is test.info, produced by makeinfo version 4.13 from test.texi.

foo

$ # new version of makeinfo (5.2)
$ makeinfo -v -D 'var1 foo' -o test.info test.texi
test.texi:1: warning: undefined flag: var1
Output file test.info
test.texi: warning: document without nodes
gyx@miz:~/bugs.d.o/texinfo$ cat test.info
This is test.info, produced by makeinfo version 5.2 from test.texi.

{No value for 'var1'}

Tag Table:

End Tag Table
$

A patch is attached that could hopefully fix this bug. (However, I
didn't check the old implementation's source for the exact semantics
of "-D".)

Cheers,

GUO Yixuan

Bug#730597: linux-image-3.11-2-amd64: not able to record audio (Intel PCH ALC889) with 3.11 kernel

2013-11-26 Thread Jay Berkenbilt
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.11.8-1
Severity: normal

I recently (2013-11-23) reinstalled my system from scratch with Wheezy
and then immediately upgraded to sid. Before upgrading, I tested
recording audio from the line0 input in my sound card (Intel PCH ALC889,
the built-in sound card on my Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard), and it
worked fine. After the upgrade, it no longer worked. The original
kernel, vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-amd64, is still present on my system. If I
reboot using that kernel, recording from my sound card works. If I boot
from my current kernel, recording from my sound card does not work, but
playback works fine. Other than the information automatically attached,
I'm not sure what else I should information I should gather up to attach
to this report. Here's the output of amixer:

  Simple mixer control 'Master',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 65536
Mono:
Front Left: Playback 62108 [95%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 62108 [95%] [on]
  Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Capture 0 - 65536
Front Left: Capture 13589 [21%] [on]
Front Right: Capture 13589 [21%] [on]

You can see that capture is enabled. In any case, getting this to work
with the 3.2 kernel is trivial, and I have reproduced this using a
debian-live image (my custom Wheezy image, just built today, which
includes audacity, pulseaudio, and pavucontrol). I just run pavucontrol
to enable playback, to volume on the output device and input devices,
and to select "Line In" as the port. After doing this, with the 3.2
kernel, recording "just works". With the 3.11 kernel, I get no sound
input. As far as I can tell, the only variable is the kernel version
that I am running. I'm not sure whether there's an issue with the mixer
(seems unlikely as the mixer settings look okay) or alsactl, or
something else. I don't see any hints in any logs as to what might be
the problem.

To gather additional information, it is possible for me to run something
booted with the 3.2 kernel and then run it again with the 3.11 kernel
and attach both to the bug report. /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start reports
lots of errors with both kernel versions, but the errors look like it's
just that it's trying to enable lots of ports that I don't have on my
very simple, built-in sound card.

Given that simply rebooting into a different kernel is, by itself,
sufficient to make this work or not work, I assume that it's either a
driver/kernel problem or some user-space program that has not been
updated to work with the new kernel. For kicks, I booted my system off
an Ubuntu live 13.10 CD and I couldn't get audio to work there either.
That's also using a newer kernel than 3.2 though I don't specifically
remember what kernel it was.

Bug#675372: dhclient boothang bug

2013-11-26 Thread Zebedee
Subject: /sbin/dhclient: dhclient boothang bug
Package: isc-dhcp-client
Version: 4.1.1-P1-15+squeeze8
File: /sbin/dhclient
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Fixing the dhclient boot hang bug when it appeared after installing
readahead-fedora.
*
The dhclient program is started indirectly by ifup, called in
/etc/init.d/networking
This bug delays boots while searching for internet connection on occasional
random boots, and possibly is related to the operation of startpar.
It is caused by the timing of dhclient in the boot process, whether it starts
in runlevel S or runlevel 2.
The networking init script that starts ifup which starts dhclient runs in
runlevel S. There is a delay before dhclient starts as ifup runs many other
scripts first.
The readahead-fedora package reduces this delay. A fast computer could also
affect it, or possibly the installation of new software that was started during
runlevel S.
If dhclient runs in S then the messages written to stderr will be displayed on
the console and the boot will be delayed until it has removed itself to the
background,
then runlevel 2 begins. In runlevel 2 the messages from runlevel S scripts
still running are automatically placed in the background by init so no delay
occurs.
Output from the console is displayed on screen during boot, providing this
feature is configured.

Output from stderr can be redirected when ifup is started.
2>/dev/null to redirect stderr, or possibly >/dev/null 2>&1 to redirect stdout
and stderr (stdout is not a problem here though.)
The process should be put in the background too, appending an &. A practical
test is to try variations with:
# ifdown wlan0
# ifup wlan0

So a simple solution is to change the line that calls ifup at boot, in this
section of /etc/init.d/networking:

case "$1" in
start)
    process_options

    log_action_begin_msg "Configuring network interfaces"
    if ifup -a; then
    log_action_end_msg $?
    else
    log_action_end_msg $?
    fi
    ;;

to this: (careful here, "if ifup -a >/dev/null 2>&1 & ; then" failed with a
syntax error.)

case "$1" in
start)
    process_options

    log_action_begin_msg "Configuring network interfaces"
    if ifup -a >/dev/null 2>&1 &
    then
    log_action_end_msg $?
    else
    log_action_end_msg $?
    fi
    ;;

However, this also seems to ensure that dhclient runs later, in runlevel 2.
Typically on my system the timing would vary before. Placing it in the
background seems to give it a lower priority than the other processes. Writing
a new initscript giving an artificial delay in runlevel S using 'sleep' proved
this did work though.

It is also possible to recompile ifup so dhclient is started with the -nw
option by modifying the inet.defn file then compiling and installing the new
binary.
Just rename the old /sbin/ifup to /sbin/originalifup.bak and copy the new ifup
to /sbin and it works as before, using the Debian source package.

Ifupdown: Version: 0.6.10
Change this section in inet.defn so it includes -nw for the dhclient command as
shown below:

up
    [[ifconfig %iface% hw %hwaddress%]]
    dhclient3 -pf /var/run/dhclient.%iface%.pid -lf
/var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.%iface%.leases %iface% \
    if (execable("/sbin/dhclient3"))
    dhclient -v -nw -pf /var/run/dhclient.%iface%.pid -lf
/var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.%iface%.leases %iface% \
    elsif (execable("/sbin/dhclient"))
    pump -i %iface% [[-h %hostname%]] [[-l %leasehours%]] \
    elsif (execable("/sbin/pump") && mylinuxver() >= mylinux(2,1,100))
    udhcpc -n -p /var/run/udhcpc.%iface%.pid -i %iface% [[-H %hostname%]] \
   [[-c %client%]] \
    elsif (execable("/sbin/udhcpc") && mylinuxver() >= mylinux(2,2,0))
    dhcpcd [[-h %hostname%]] [[-i %vendor%]] [[-I %client%]] \
   [[-l %leasetime%]] %iface% \
    elsif (execable("/sbin/dhcpcd"))

There are various dependencies required to compile this package though. I am
not aware of any advantages to doing this, except dhclient prints a few lines
without delaying the boot, making it convenient for tracing the problem in
syslog and bootlog.
The disadvantage is it also stops messages in the terminal which would show if
a connection had been achieved when calling ifupdown manually.
As rsyslog starts near the beginning of runlevel 2, whether all the output from
dhclient appears in syslog or not shows if it appears in the console and thus
in the boot log. The first lines of output from dhclient:

Bug#724180: bespin: FTBFS: dpkg-source: error: can't build with source format '3.0 (native)': native package version may not have a revision

2013-11-26 Thread peter green

I just uploaded a NMU for bespin to delayed/5.

There were no changes to the source itself, the only changes were to use
a version number ( 0.r1552+nmu1 ) which is compatible with 3.0 (native)
and to rebuild against current sid (in particular against the new
kde-workspace).

Please tell me if you object to this.

Bug#693399: Alpha 4 or git snapshot in experimental?

2013-11-26 Thread Diederik de Haas
Hi!

Alpha 4 is released and it would be great if it was packaged and put in
experimental.
What would even more cool is if a git snapshot could be uploaded to
experimental. Code now seems to be at https://github.com/keepassx/keepassx

Bug#730487: Proof of concept for corruption

2013-11-26 Thread R. Bijker
With the attached proof of concept I can cause a crash, but is also
proves that the returned path can change after a second allocation.

It can only happen when someone reuses the allocated buffer and assumes
that strlen(x) gives you the right length for the buffer, however it is
quite odd to not make such an assumption.

In any case, it also proves that the returned string can become invalid
after another allocation; the result of the proof of concept for me is:

24: /tmp/abcdef/.local/share
25: /tmp/abcdef/.local/share!
24: /tmp/abcdef/.local/games

This shows that after the second allocation the value at the first
pointer has changed. Its length has been increased by 1. This is also
what is most troublesome to me; it will create transient issues with
applications that use these functions where they can't find the data or
config folder in subsequent runs because each time it can return a
different path due to the "corruption". However, it would be badly
debuggable as it only happens with certain lengths of user names.

Be aware that there is some code that changes the environment in the
proof of concept that is used to trigger it. On my x86_64 system the
current one triggers it; on other systems it might be different. It all
depends on the alignment of malloc allocations.
#include
#include
#include
#include

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
	/* Home needs to be a specific length. In my case the total returned string
	 * length, including /tmp/abcdef/.local/share needs to be 24. It might be
	 * different on different architectures. */
	setenv("HOME", "/tmp/abcdef", 1);

	/* Allocate the first string, and print the first. */
	const char *xdg_data_home = xdgDataHome(NULL);
	printf("%d: %s\n", strlen(xdg_data_home), xdg_data_home);

	/* Allocate the second string. */
	const char *xdg_config_home = xdgConfigHome(NULL);

	/* Now print the first string again; for me it's character byte longer now.
	 * This also means that we do not place it in the data home directory, but
	 * yet another directory. Possibly with a random name, making it quite
	 * unreliable where the files will be. This will eventually cause all kinds
	 * of transient "file cannot be found" errors. But only for those that have
	 * exactly the "wrong" amount of characters in the $HOME path. */
	printf("%d: %s\n", strlen(xdg_data_home), xdg_data_home);

	/*
	 * Now we really start to mess with things...
	 * We know, from the code, not the documentation, that we have control over
	 * the data, i.e. the data that was allocated is now ours. For strings it
	 * would generally be safe to assume that all characters of the string and
	 * the '\0' belong to the allocated string.
	 * Imagine we want the share replaced with games to match the games folder
	 * in /usr/.
	 */
	char *path = strrchr(xdg_data_home, '/');
	if (path != NULL && strlen(path + 1) >= 5) {
		strcpy(path + 1, "games");
		printf("%d: %s\n", strlen(xdg_data_home), xdg_data_home);
	}

	/* Now clean everything up. */
	free((char*)xdg_data_home); // BOOM
	free((char*)xdg_config_home);

	return 0;
}

This one isn't actually corrupt - there was a bug in xapian-check which
I fixed after looking at this example before. Details are in the bug
log here:

I get 404 for this URL, but earlier you sent a link to xapian-2.tar.gz
so I assume you just mistyped the extension this time.

Taking a look at this one now...

Bug#730595: anacron: Gracefully stop anacron (with SIGUSR1)

2013-11-26 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Package: anacron
Version: 2.3-19
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

The anacron manpage suggests that the SIGUSR1 signal can gracefully kill
anacron (by waiting for the completion of the jobs) rather than plain
killing it.

What do you think about adding something like

--retry=SIGUSR1/10/KILL/5 (or maybe even SIGUSR1/10/TERM/5/KILL/5)

to start-stop-daemon to ensure the jobs are properly finished?

For systemd serivice something like:

KillMode=process
KillSignal=SIGUSR1

Should do the trick. This is actally important for systemd as if anacron
exits, the complete cgroup will be killed, so we let the chance to the
jobs to properly finish.

Cheers,

Laurent Bigonville

And then you are barking against the wrong people. Ask upstream to not set a
default and show that same config option from the beginning.

Sorry but that's not possible. Akonadi is needed by many parts and it's usage
will probably continue to grow. We maintainers need to set up things as
upstream wants. If you don't like that, ask upstream, not us.

Thank you Lisandro for the very clear explanation.

I search a little, it seems xfce4 which sets XDG_CONFIG_DIRS
in the script /usr/bin/startxfce4.  Do you think it is an

incorrect choice by xfce to set this variable,
or maybe they should also append your qtchooser directories?

It is a problem that qmake and other executables aren't working.
Nevertheless, it is difficult for me to suggest how to resolve.

Bug#725818: please fix

2013-11-26 Thread Flavio Stanchina
I'd like to add a few notes to this bug. I installed just the Sqlite
backend as I don't want MySQL on this machine. This worked fine on squeeze
and wheezy, but I recently upgraded to jessie and every time I logged into
a KDE session I would get a dialog box saying that Akonadi was "upgrading
resources" which would stay there for a minute or so without progress. Upon
further investigation I discovered that the Akonadi server wouldn't start
because it was looking for MySQL:

$ akonadictl start
[...]
mysqld not found. Please verify your installation
[correct, it's not installed on this machine]
[more error messages and a stack trace]
ProcessControl: Application 'akonadiserver' returned with exit code 255
(Unknown error)
[the above part repeats three more times]
"akonadiserver" crashed too often and will not be restarted!

Maximiliano Curia wrote:
> akonadi-backend-mysql is the default backend, if you want to setup a

Manually? Are you joking? This is KDE, not bash with more colors.

> This is documented in:
> /usr/share/doc/akonadi-backend-sqlite/README.Debian.gz

...which says, among other things:
"Just install the backend package which is the most appropriate for your
setup [...]"

That's what I did. Again, if the MySQL backend is required for the package
to work, why isn't there a dependency? That's what the original bug report
was asking. Either Akonadi *needs* the MySQL backend, therefore a
dependency is required, or the fact that Akonadi won't start without the
MySQL backend is a bug that needs fixing. Just select the first available
backend and be done with it. By the way, if you just write:

  [%General]
  Driver=foo

...into ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc, then the control panel will
start and let you set the configuration. It's funny that an invalid
configuration works better than a valid configuration without the backend.

Truth be told, the real question for me is that I don't want Akonadi on my
system, but it is a dependency of several core KDE packages (I didn't track
which ones exactly) so it can't be removed. I "solved" the problem by
dpkg-redirect'ing /usr/bin/akonadi* and /usr/lib/libakonadi
out of the way, so package dependencies are satisfied. The KDE session
starts without errors and every piece of KDE that I'm actually interested
in runs fine, so I guess Akonadi is not really required. I have no problem
if you won't fix the Akonadi package dependencies as I've now made sure it
won't affect me, but I'd really like if someone fixes the other KDE
packages' dependencies so I can remove Akonadi altogether.

Bug#730512: libvte9: Unnecessarily stealing shift+up/down in the alternate buffer

2013-11-26 Thread Tim Marston
Package: libvte9
Version: 1:0.28.2-5
Followup-For: Bug #730512

Sorry, just wanted to provide some additional information for anyone
trying to get xfce4-temrinal to work...

If you're using xfce4-terminal, and you have the option enabled to use
Shift-Up and Shift-Down to scroll the terminal by one line (in
Preferences->General), then this patch will appear not to work. You
will have to disable this option.

I am guessing that this option was added to xfce4-terminal before the
same facility was added to libvte. But the option is broken in
xfce4-terminal (as libvte steals the key presses). So, without this
patch, the option does nothing anyway (and may need to be removed).

While I was adding libkdegames I spotted why some of the packages were

No idea, C++ is out of my depth.

I know that GCC will need the alignment attribute twice in structs, e.g.

struct foo {
int bar __attribute__((__aligned__(8)));
int baz;
} __attribute__((__aligned__(8)));

>idea how this is possible? Does this happen for other programs as well?

Not normally, although these implicit-alignment-assumptions are very
common, sadly.

(To be honest, I personally think that most code that explicitly checks
for alignment of data types is doing something wrong, and (objectively)
probably something unportable.)

I uploaded a new revision of kdepimlibs accepting the patch suggested in

Also tagua and knights seem to require to be binNMUed against

Bug#730593: emacs24: fails to set fullscreen frame parameter on gnome 3

2013-11-26 Thread Pedro Ângelo
Package: emacs24
Version: 24.3+1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

On my .emacs I use the following command to set the emacs window to fullscreen
on startup:

(set-frame-parameter nil 'fullscreen 'fullboth)

This has stopped working in the Emacs24 package in debian testing since the
recent gnome updates. From the alternatives at
http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/FullScreen, the following don't work:

 * Starting Emacs with the -fs parameter

 * Sending the fullscreen message directly to the window manager with

(defun fullscreen ()
   (interactive)
   (x-send-client-message nil 0 nil "_NET_WM_STATE" 32
 '(2 "_NET_WM_STATE_FULLSCREEN" 0)))

What *does* work:

 * Setting the window to fullscreen via the *wmctrl* external program

  * Setting the window to fullscreen using the gnome key binding to toggle
fullscreen

This looks like some change in gnome made emacs not able to request fullscreen
as a frame property

I would be available as co-maintainer. I intend to bring forward
Minetest, and I began this work by packaing some important mods. I think
it would be a good thing if we could get together for all of this as a

I do not see what you mean by "without success" - you have to enable the
mesecons_textures mod inside Minetest, and it works. That's the intended
behaviour by upstream. If we want to change that behaviour in Debian,
just remove the trailing ? from my patch.

Bug#724804: Arduino bugs on debian BTS

2013-11-26 Thread Scott Howard
retitle 724804 raspbian package of arduino doesn't work with arduino micro
thanks

Thanks for the bug, I'm a little confused as to the problem you are
trying to report.

First, Debian doesn't support Raspbian (they are separate projects),
but it is possible that a bug in one is affecting the other so it's ok
to discuss it here.

I'm trying to figure out what you're reporting, is it:

*you have raspbian
* you have an arduino micro board

*"micro" on ttyACM0 is greyed out, but you still selected it?

Then the serial monitor crashes?

Question:
Why is "arduino as ISP" selected? Are you trying to program an AVR
chip using the arduino as an in circuit serial programmer?

Serial monitor crashing happens if the wrong serial port is selected,
there is permission problems, or rxtx can't find the serial device.

It sounds like there is something wrong with the serial port when you
connect? I can't follow what you're trying to say with the code.

"I can develop Sketches in the IDE, Upload them to the Micro board,
and they do work."
So what is the bug you are reporting? Is it that the serial monitor is
crashing but everything else works?

It might be a bug with rxtx (the serial port library). Does arduino
from upstream work? Could you try the debian experimental packages
(version 1.5+)?

Regards,
Scott

Bug#730591: epiphany-browser: noisy messages to stderr: " Wnck-WARNING **: Unhandled action type _OB_WM_ACTION_UNDECORATE"

2013-11-26 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 3.8.2-4
Severity: minor

I'm running openbox with some custom rules to handle window
decorations.

when i launch ephiphany-browser, i get many many of the following
noisy messages to stderr at browser startup (and more when i do things
like maximizing the window):

(epiphany-browser:1861): Wnck-WARNING **: Unhandled action type
_OB_WM_ACTION_UNDECORATE

It seems like either epiphany should handle these actions or it should suppress
these noisy messages.

Thanks for maintaining epiphany in debian!

CC'ing in Cameron

Hi Ken,

Thanks for logging this RM bug. I'm only a minor contributor to
DebTorrent, and I'm sentimental about it, but I support RM'ing.

It never got enough users to reach critical masss. The peak
popcon of around 200 installs meant that most of the downloads
went to the HTTP fallback (the normal Debian mirror system).

Popcon:
debtorrent: inst 145, vote 105
apt-transport-debtorrent: inst 169, vote 20

The 85 votes for debtorrent without apt-transport are probably
running the client without actually using the service.

The normal Debian mirror system is not going to feel any
difference from those numbers.

There might still be a use case for small projects that work with
huge data packages and have their own repo, but it seems unlikely.
And if they already have their own repository, they can include
the DebTorrent .debs too; the current version will always be
available (it's already in stable).

Steve

  Description : JavaScript MVC Framework for HTML applications running in
the Browser

AngularJS assists with running single-page applications by augmenting
browser-based applications with model–view–controller (MVC) capability.

The library reads in HTML that contains additional custom tag attributes; it
then obeys the directives in those custom attributes, and binds input or
output parts of the page to a model represented by standard JavaScript
variables. The values of those JavaScript variables can be manually set, or
retrieved from static or dynamic JSON resources.

Bug#730584: xul-ext-timeline: Dependency to iceowl-extension always installs icedove

2013-11-26 Thread Matthias Schmitz
Package: xul-ext-timeline
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

since the last update of the xul-ext-timeline the package has a fix dependency
to iceowl-extension. This installs always an icedove even if iceowl is already
installed.

Icedove and Iceowl are added to the Depends: by ${xpi:Depends} but icedove
without iceowl-extension can not use the timeline add-on.

I propose to add "iceowl | iceowl-extension" again to the Depends: as this is
the correct logic to choose between iceowl and icedove.

At upstream's suggestion, I have tested Motif built without fix #1565
against different window managers and have been able to reproduce the
original bug with LXDE, GNOME, KDE and Openbox. The bug does not
occur with FluxBox, MWM, Unity or XFCE.

Upstream are now working on fixing the remaining misbehaviour.

Hi, Joey and Don,

Sorry for the delay, I am having little time lately. Finally had time to
look at this (and similar wamerican #683024 just merged).

It is not the trigger to blame, but a change I did in 2011-03-28 trying to
simplify options. I then forgot that wamerican could have been installed first
and then its postinst is not run when dictionaries-common is installed.

I am working in a fix. Expect a fixed package soon.

Thanks for your info

If I were you I would stop maintaining this. People might become
confused which debian/ stuff is "the right one" (TM). So you could
safe extra work which has no real use IMHO.

> Let me know when we can advertise debian packaging.

Since I just uploaded this now only depends from ftpmaster accepting the
package (sorry, currently this simply takes about one month for
accepting new packages). As the owner of the ITP bug you will be
notified automatically.

Inbetween you might have a look at the new queue:

   http://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Bug#730583: krb5-admin-server: if "supported_enctypes = DEFAULT" then "kadmind: Required parameters in kdc.conf missing while initializing, aborting"

2013-11-26 Thread CSights
Package: krb5-admin-server
Version: 1.10.1+dfsg-5+deb7u1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

MIT documentation for version 1.10 of kdc.conf states that

"The string DEFAULT can be used to refer to the default set of types for the
variable
in question. Types or families can be removed from the current list by
prefixing them
with a minus sign (“-”). Types or families can be prefixed with a plus sign
(“+”) for
symmetry; it has the same meaning as just listing the type or family. For
example,
“DEFAULT -des” would be the default set of encryption types with DES types
removed,
and “des3 DEFAULT” would be the default set of encryption types with triple DES
types moved to the front.
http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/krb5-current/doc/admin/conf_files/kdc_conf.html#encryption-and-salt-types

However using

supported_enctypes = DEFAULT

in kdc.conf results in kadmind failing with
"kadmind: Required parameters in kdc.conf missing while initializing, aborting"

The server does start with any other encryption type specified before the word
DEFAULT. E.g.

supported_enctypes = des3-cbc-raw:normal DEFAULT

Will let the server start without errors, as well a nonsense encryption type
like:

supported_enctypes = des3-cbc-raw:normal dog

So, it probably the case that DEFAULT is just ignored if it is not the first
encryption type.

Thanks,
  C.

thanks for reporting. This issue has been fixed a minute ago, since it was also
reported by a DCMTK forum user (on a Win32 system):

This test did not fail on my main development machine (Linux x86_64), so I was
not aware of it.

2013-11-26 Thread James Cowgill
Control: reopen -1
Control: tags -1 fixed-upstream

Hi,

I also get this error, and I do think this is a bug. file-roller
shouldn't even be trying to change the owner of the extracted files when
it's not running as root. In addition, the same archive extracts
correctly if you run tar directly.

The fix for this bug was committed upstream here:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/file-roller/commit/?h=gnome-3-10&id=80c36ae3c84dce8716eb5b74ddb8c73da5824f13

And the relevant bug report is here:

Bug#730369: systemd: bluetooth daemon not starting

bluez provides its own service file (/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service).

The problem here appears to be that the bluetooth.service doesn't get enabled
on package installation:

> % systemctl status bluetooth.service
> bluetooth.service - Bluetooth service
>Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service; disabled)
>Active: inactive (dead)

So the dumb solution would simply be to manually enable the service by running
"systemctl enable bluetooth.service".

As for the long-term solution, if I understand things correctly, it's the
package's duty to enable whatever service it installed (and not systemd's), so
if the bluez maintainer wants to have the bluetooth service enabled on package
installation he should start using the dh_systemd_enable script provided by
the dh-systemd package in bluez' debian/rules (for the short form dh thingy it
should be enough to simply pass --with=systemd to dh and add dh-systemd to
Build-Depends).

At this point, I guess this bug should be reassigned to bluez, though I leave
that decision to the systemd maintainers or the bug submitter.

Cheers

Bug#711955: may be altogether remove this divergance from .spec?

2013-11-26 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
I am not sure on how -6, which is stated to have dealt with the config file
issue, actually dealt with it... since there is no Vcs fields (hint: please add
them/expose Vcs if it is not public yet), I just re-imported all the revisions
using git-import-dscs to discover the actual change (listed below) which seems
to have nothing to do about making .modulespath a config file (i.e. shipping it
under /etc, and if needed symlinking back to under original location, or just
patching the sources). May be there was a forgotten 'git add' or something
like that? ;)

Also I am still wondering about a logical location where to install custom
modulefiles by other packages?

Bug#623384: mime-support: /usr/bin/see runs in an endless loop and spawn lot of processes

2013-11-26 Thread Kevin Ryde
Charles Plessy  writes:
>
> I just tested to open with ‘see’ a file called a.thm on Icedove 17.0.9-2, and
> there was no infinite loop. Can you still reproduce the problem on your side
> ?

One way this can happen is the way "see" is an update-alternatives for
"view".

vim-common in /usr/lib/mime/packages/vim-common adds to /etc/mailcap

text/*; view %s; edit=vi %s; compose=vi %s; needsterminal; priority=1

so "see" runs "view" which is "see" which runs "view", etc, endlessly
forking.

To suffer this you have to have "see" as the update-alternatives for
view. That can happen if you don't have any vim, nvi, etc, or (if bug
458691 is believed) then the "see" priority may have been higher in the
past.

I agree with Josh Triplett in bug 458691 that "see" should not be an
alternative to "view" -- if no other reason than it's a fork-bomb
waiting to happen! :) I think "view" should be a read-only "vi" in the
traditional unix fashion. If someone wants the mime-type adaption of
"see" then they should use "see". If you run "view" then I think it
should be to view as a text file, no matter what the filename or
content.

Bug#730554: New version - minetest 0.4.8 released; please add minetest-mod-* to Recommends

2013-11-26 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Hi Martin and others,

Thanks for improving free software :)
I think we need to have latest minetest 0.4.8 packages in Debian ASAP, so
bellow are my suggestions:

I don't know what is the situation with minetest dependancies, but
there are deb packages of minetest 0.4.8 release, see
https://code.launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+recipe/minetest-c55-stable
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/minetest-c55/packaging/files

Maybe these packages can help you to understand where is the problem?
It seems minetestc55 0.4.8 packages were build by PilzAdam

or Sebastian Rühl https://launchpad.net/~sebastian-ruehl

> If you want to become co-maintainer of minetest, I'd be very happy to

Thanks for the invitation, but currently I can't become co-maintainer - my
family steals whole my time :(
Maybe previous minetest Debian packager Michael Gilbert
or minetest-c55 packagers could help you?

> Many thanks also for pointing me on the packaged mods, I wasn't aware
> of them.

I think minetest-mod-mesecons is very important - it's packaging code is
already on debian git, see
git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-games/minetest-mod-mesecons.git
It seems there is only one improvement needed - to include textures by default,
Dominik George tried to include textures, but without
success, see
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-games/minetest-mod-mesecons.git;a=commitdiff;h=9165ad921a5ad811e7b83499e0fe7e2cd4a4bb88

Btw, I can't import your minetest-modpack-mobf code from debian git - error:
"404 - Reading tree failed" appears, see "Import details" errors at

https://code.launchpad.net/~baltix/minetest-c55/minetest-modpack-mobf
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/157669450/baltix-minetest-c55-minetest-modpack-mobf.log
also at
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-games/minetest-modpack-mobf.git;a=tree

Yes, it would be nice to see minetest-modpack-mobf packages in Debian
and Ubuntu,

Bug#730522: gnome-shell: Leaking once again

2013-11-26 Thread Agustin Carrasco
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.8.4-5
Followup-For: Bug #730522

After further searching through the web, I stumbled across this issue on redhat
bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=995799
It hasn't had much attention, but the description was enough to give me a hint
about something I was ignoring, which was a particularity of the computer where
I was experiencing the leak: I had setup a background rotating app (Cortina).

So, after disabling it, I can confirm the leak is gone.
After trying manually setting the background and using a gnome-shell extension
that manages the rotating wallpapers as well, I can conclude that it definitely
is a leak on the background managing code on gnome-shell.
I'm not sure if the problem have been addressed on newer versions of the
package; so far I have found some bugs and patches on the gnome-shell mailing
list, but they appear to be already on the current package of debian testing,
so it may be something new.

Anyway, the bug isn't as severe as I thought, I can live without rotating
wallpapers. Hope this description can help solve the issue in the future tho.

Cheers.

JSON::MaybeXS tries to load Cpanel::JSON::XS, and if that fails instead
tries to load JSON::PP. If neither is available, an exception will be
thrown.

It then exports the encode_json and decode_json functions from the
loaded module, along with a JSON constant that returns the class name
for calling new on.

JSON::MaybeXS is a new dependency of Catalyst

Bug#730576: ITP: libcpanel-json-xs-perl -- module for fast and correct serialising to JSON

2013-11-26 Thread Florian Schlichting
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Florian Schlichting

* Package name: libcpanel-json-xs-perl
  Version : 2.3403
  Upstream Author : Reini Urban
* URL : https://metacpan.org/release/Cpanel-JSON-XS
* License : same as Perl
  Programming Lang: Perl / XS
  Description : module for fast and correct serialising to JSON

Cpanel::JSON::XS converts Perl data structures to JSON and vice versa.
Its primary goal is to be correct and its secondary goal is to be fast.
To reach the latter goal it was written in C.
.
As this is the n-th-something JSON module on CPAN, what was the reason
to write yet another JSON module? While it seems there are many JSON
modules, none of them correctly handle all corner cases, and in most
cases their maintainers are unresponsive, gone missing, or not listening
to bug reports for other reasons.

CGI::Struct::XS is the XS implementation of CGI::Struct, a module for
transforming CGI GET/POST data into intricate data structures. This is
reminiscent of PHP's building arrays from form data, but with a perl
twist.

CGI::Struct::XS is fully compatible with CGI::Struct, except for error

These renames are somewhat painful unfortunately. See also
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=719695

As for changing all the initscripts to use avahi-daemon instead of
avahi:
http://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=%28Should%7CRequired%29-Start%3A+.*avahi+path%3Ainit
reveals that there are 12 packages that would need to be updated. Given
that avahi-daemon is the upstream name, this would probably be the
cleaner solution, but someone would have to do it… :)

So maybe I wasn't clear in this. But this --timeout 1 is the
problem. Note that lots of other things might be happening
on the system and it just might not be able to do do whatever
it needs to do in 1 second.

If DBus were not set up correctly, I suppose I would have got an

feel free to move the package name to python-mne on debian.org
if you feel more comfortable.

We cannot change it on github as it would break people's setups.

the github debian branch is also up to date.

Let me know when we can advertise debian packaging.

Note that a better way to override specific statements like this is to
create a file called /etc/systemd/system/anacorn.service.d/on-ac.conf
with the following contents:

[Unit]
ConditionACPower=false

Also I’d consider dropping remote-fs.target, unless anacron really needs
it. Apart from that, your patch looks good.

Bug#730567: libglib2.0-bin: unhelpful error message "Error: Timeout was reached" from gdbus

2013-11-26 Thread Simon McVittie
On 26/11/13 16:30, Vincent Lefevre wrote:

Actually, the line at fault appears to be in the gdbus utility
(gdbus-tool.c) rather than anything to do with the library:

  g_printerr (_("Error: %s\n"), error->message);

so either form would work.

All the g_printerr() calls in that file have the same problem of not
providing the context of "who said that?" when gdbus is used
noninteractively.

Bug#729527: [Aptitude-devel] Bug#729527: aptitude says Error: Timeout was reached

2013-11-26 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Hi!
It is possible that this error happens because gdbus fails to connect
to DBus. Is DBus set up correctly and working?
Apart from that, there is not much which can go wrong with this command...
Cheers,
Matthias

Bug#730572: reprepro: support for ddebs (debug symbols)

2013-11-26 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: reprepro
Version: 4.13.1-1+b1
Severity: wishlist

(Deliberately not tagging this +patch right now, since Debian doesn't
officially support ddebs yet, and the archive layout looks likely to change.)

Ubuntu has a semi-separate archive for separate debug symbols, and
 is the proposal to
add the same thing to Debian. It would be great if reprepro could
support them, too.

The attached patch is a proof-of-concept implementation: it treats them
as a mixture of .deb and .ddeb. It seems to work OK in conjunction with
Ubuntu's pkg-create-dbgsym.

Known omissions:

* The wiki page says "ddeb will have no override entries, so no priority
  or section". In my implementation, they can have override entries
  (sharing an override file with normal debs), although those are not
  mandatory, and they have whatever package and section they are given
  by pkg-create-dbgsym, currently Priority: extra and whatever Section
  was used by the ordinary deb.

* The wiki page says "ddeb will go into the component "debug", so will
  show up in ./pool/debug/" but in my implementation they go in
  pool/{main,contrib,non-free}. The wiki page lists "Do we need to
  split ddeb per main/contrib/non-free?" as an open issue, which is partly
  why I chose to sidestep that question for now.

* The wiki page says "Standalone Release/Packages in ./debug/dists/"
  but in my implementation they behave more like udebs: they go somewhere
  like dists/main/debug/binary-i386/main and are covered by the main
  Release file.

* ddebs seem to end up with a long Description, despite the wiki
  page saying they shouldn't. I think tha might be a pkg-create-dbgsym
  bug, though?

I hope this is a useful starting point anyway.

Regards,
S

Subject: [PATCH 2/2] Add basic support for ddebs (Ubuntu-style -dbgsym
 packages)

For the moment they're treated a lot like udebs: they're copied into
the same pool as normal debs and udebs, and their package lists
go into a subdirectory. The pull/updates logic doesn't support
downloading them, since we don't yet know how Debian mirrors that
carry ddebs will be laid out (and Ubuntu uses a separate public-facing
archive for them).
