Did you also pick up the designware fixes? (It sounds like it since
Andreas reports dhcp working).

FYI there is support for cubieboard 1&2 and a couple of other boards
(one ofthe OLinuxIno ones I think) ongoing on the u-boot list.

To be really useful we would also want the AHCI driver which is also
currently being reviewed on the list.

I suppose all of that ought to wait for upstream acceptance though.

I haven't actually tried this yet but I was half thinking it might be
nice/useful to be able to boot D-I from USB using FEL instead of messing
around with TFTP or MMC cards etc. That would require the FEL versions
of u-boot.bin and spl/sunxi-spl.bin (not sure abuot u-boot.img, I don't
use it with FEL at least).

That's part of my reason for #750104, to provide the necessary tools on
the host side.

(I haven't really considered how the u-boot would get onto the host
system -- since the package is not arch:all. I suppose multiarch might
help!)

FWIW FEL mode would want them split not joined. And I think you need
u-boot.bin not u-boot.img for that case too (or at least that is what
I've always used...).

For the sake of users who may land on this bug report. lio-utils is
deprecated upstream. Users are advised to switch to targetcli. lio-utils
may soon be removed from the Debian repositories.

Uh? Not really… remember, we are just goin to check whether we got the
*rootfs* mounted, we can hardly go mount something to /usr for that.

Apart from that, there is no /usr in the initramfs.

Bug#750526: libgtk-3-0: Client-side drop shadow appears when programs are started with a compositor running

2014-06-03 Thread Russell Haley
Source: libgtk-3-0
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

When GTK 3 applications (gedit, gnome-disks, deja-dup, probably most others)
are started on a system with a compositor running (in my case, compton), they
have a 25 pixel shadow on all edges. Because the shadow is inside the window's
bounding box, this interferes with the operation of tiling window managers, and
window-edge snapping on floating window managers.

Hello Thomas,

I would very much welcome such backport, but I really can't commit to
do it myself. However, anyone is free to work on it (preferrably in
the pkg-shadow git repository, which I can open to any volunteer) and
I can sponsor the upload in case the person doing the work is not a DD

Yes. This happens some times. The reason is unknown. Last I checked with

The main reason I haven't already released 2.18.2 is that lilypond
doesn't work with guile 2.0, nor does it work with makeinfo --html. I
think there are bugs open for both of these issues in upstream's
bugtracker, but if you've got extra cycles, working on them would be
awesome. [I have a super preliminary patch in my git repository, but it
doesn't work at all.]

These are because of bug #748167 in lintian, which will be fixed in the next
release of lintian.

Bug#730235:

2014-06-03 Thread Ignacio Areta
I think this bug should be closed as obsolete. Flash NPAPI plugin isn't
supported anymore starting with Chromium 35.

Also, the report at upstream was closed as wontfix. Curiously, the developer
who closed it reccomends the PPAPI version, even with the redistribution
problems... This is sad.

Bug#745761: igtf-policy-bundle: General update after the debconf review process

2014-06-03 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, April 29, 2014, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a
review
action on debconf templates for igtf-policy-bundle.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Tuesday, April 29, 2014. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Bug#750524: Please package LilyPond 2.18.2

2014-06-03 Thread John Zaitseff
Package: lilypond
Version: 2.18.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Don,

Thanks very much for packaging LilyPond 2.18.0! I use this package
quite a lot (even though it is under Ubuntu Trusty, at the moment),
so I appreciate your work!

I note that LilyPond 2.18.2 was released on 23rd March. This
version essentially provides updated manuals only, although I didn't
go through the diff line by line.

I've repackaged 2.18.2 for my own system, as you can see from
http://www.zap.org.au/viewvc/debian-packages/debian-updates/lilypond/
and from my package repository:

  deb ftp://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian zapgroup-sid main contrib non-free
  deb-src ftp://ftp.zap.org.au/pub/debian zapgroup-sid main contrib non-free

The only thing that had to change was debian/changelog. Could you
therefore update the official Debian package? Thanks!

I note that the current package has some lintian errors, as listed
below. If I have a chance, I'll try to whip up a patch to at least
turn these into warnings...

Bug#750522: HTTPS mirrors support/request

2014-06-03 Thread dnorw...@portalus.com

Package: mirrors
Severity: wishlist
Tags: d-i

Dear Maintainer,

It would be ideal to start addressing numerous requests for https capable
repositories for installations and for updates. At this time there is a small
subset of official mirrors that do provide https as an option. Perhaps we could
start to publish a listing of those servers as an available alternative option
to those in place such as rsync, ftp, and http.

2014-06-03 Thread Eric Fort
(Norbert)

my apologies on my last reply. I am grateful for your assistance and also
somewhat frustrated. M y apologies if that shows a bit as it's not
directed at you & I think we both just want things to work. It's also a
bit confusing in that it's stating that dpkg returned 1 (an error) and

hey I'm fallible, human, and know less than I'd like about how debian

I've learned that a power outage hit the university datacentre and the

Bug#750520: [tor] scramblesuit bridge line did not parse

2014-06-03 Thread 张敬强
Package: tor
Version: 0.2.4.22-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Dear Maintainers:
I get scrambesuit bridges from https://bridges.torproject.org/
add them to /etc/tor/torrc. But Tor doesn't start and it tells

tor[26073]: Jun 04 10:46:05.262 [warn] Key digest for Bridge is wrong length.
tor[26073]: Jun 04 10:46:05.262 [warn] Failed to parse/validate config: Bridge
line did not parse. See logs for details.

The related torrc lines as follows:

ClientTransportPlugin obfs3,scramblesuit exec /usr/bin/obfsproxy managed
bridge obfs3 :
bridge obfs3 :
bridge obfs3 :

Bridge scramblesuit : password=SPJ262LX4PXWCZ3IPWPDF4HBETRWLGSI

If I commit scramblesuit lines, tor start without any problem.

It seems that the scramblesuit line is corrent according to the man page of
obfsproxy. And the addr, port, password are all taking from the tor bridges
page.

It is the xetex binary that is crashing here, nothing else.

As a consequence the configuration doe snot succeed.

Yes, I know. I did not say *you* killed ith with "kill -9 .." or
whatever. Something kille dit.

I asked you to run the code line I sent you.

Can you please do this, *as*root* And send the full output.

I am using a text only mail program, all red and udnerline is not
visible to me, and completely irrelevant.

No. Wrong. Apt is *NOT* crashing. apt-get is telling you
that the configuration of texlive-xetex did not succeed. It is
doing what it is supposed to do.

It is the xetex binary that starts the problem.

Once again, please *answer* my questions, otherwsie we cannot
proceed in this bug report, I am not willing to handle your
irritation if you do no cooperate:

And again, please run *as*root* the following command line and send
me the *complete* output:

   xetex -ini -jobname=xelatex -progname=xelatex -etex xelatex.ini

Bug#750347: Regression in paramiko

2014-06-03 Thread Jelmer Vernooij
This is a regression in paramiko, caused by their effort to support
Python 3.

We can work around this in bzr if there is no other way, but that
likely has performance consequences - we'd have to materialize
every buffer as a bytestring before passing it in.

Bug#750519: [phpmyadmin] "Cannot load or save configuration": Misleading instruction from setup script

2014-06-03 Thread Filipus Klutiero

Package: phpmyadmin
Version: 4:4.2.2-2
Severity: normal

This is a follow-up to #712011. After changing a setting and selecting "Apply",
administrators get a red warning:

Cannot load or save configuration

Please create web server writable folder /config/ in phpMyAdmin top level directory
as described in documentation
. Otherwise you
will be only able to download or display it.

This instruction is designed for manual installations. Using the Debian
package, one must rather use pma-configure, as explained in README.Debian:

The setup script can not write to configuration by default, to write
  configuration, please follow these steps:

1. as root, run /usr/sbin/pma-configure
2. Go to setup script URL with a browser
   (e.g. http://localhost/phpmyadmin/setup/index.php)
3. configure using the web interface and save configuration
4. as root, run /usr/sbin/pma-secure

The architectures in Debian are quite messy TBH, they have grown
rather organically, extended as needed while trying (in many cases)
to preserve backwards compatibility, and in some places they might
not seem coherent/uniform/etc, which might be close to the truth. If
I could start from scratch I'd probably define and implement them in
a very diffrent way.

The following are some of the weird properties that they have
currently:

  * The Linux kernel is implicit in the architecture names.
  * The glibc and ELF ABI are implicit in the architecture names.
  * The architectures have a different cpu name (not just arch name)
depending on their endianness.
  * Some architectures have a different base name when it comes to
their 32 and 64 bit variants.
  * Sometimes the ABI is encoded in what would appear to be the
cpu name, others in an explicit libc/abi part of the tuple.
  * Some architectures do not have equivalent on other kernels.

In any case, when it comes to the wildcards, I might be a bit fuzzy
right now on the details of the thought process at the time, and would
probably need to refresh my memory from my notes or emails from the
time. But AFAIR here's what I think was that thought process:

 * We need a unique 1:1 bi-directional mapping from GNU triplets to
Debian architectures, some of the properties are hidden and need
   to be internally expanded.
 * Because those hidden properties are implicit, they require a table
which might not be known by other programs anyway.
 * Other programs could “easily” use dpkg-architecture to check for
identity or a match. (This poses problems for programs that do not
want to either require dpkg around or to fork its tables.)
 * Matching on cpu instead of arch name, was the logical route once
the architectures had been expanded into their normalized forms
   (the Debian triplets).
 * Matching on cpu instead of arch name, supposedly made adding support
distribution-wide for things like armel or lpia way easier. (This
might not have been worth it though.)
 * If the wildcard is linux-any and the expanded form linux-foo does
not exist anyway, there's not much to make it coherent with. But
experience has demonstrated this still trips people over.

But, I agree this might seem confusing, and that's why I left #694630
open, because I want to deal with it some way or another. I'd have to
check if it would be feasible to match against the arch name instead of
cpu name, but even if there was no fundamental blocker there, changing
that now would imply a backward incompabitble change, and would require
at least someone going over the archive and taking care of any fallout
beforehand, and that does not cover out-of-archive packaging and
infrastructure, etc. So I'm not sure this seems appealing… but I'll
make a note of at least checking it.

Thanks,
Guillem

Since it was killed there was either a watchdog running, or
you have mixed libraries which created memory faults, or updated
whatever other lib xetex relies on.

Is this system a pure installation without any additional
out-of-release package?

You might also be low on diskspace, or on memory, or have and
hardware error.

Many thing that are possuble.

You could try to run the program from the command line -

BUT AS *ONE* (as in 1) line (you did it already, but on two lines
...argg)

xetex -ini -jobname=xelatex -progname=xelatex -etex xelatex.ini

Bug#750515: deets: Updates for new libdpkg 1.17.10 API changes

2014-06-03 Thread Guillem Jover
Source: deets
Source-Version: 0.2-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi!

Here's a patch series with some fixes and an update for the upcoming
changes in the libdpkg 1.17.10 API. Some enum value names have
changed, but the switch to the pkg_status_name() function will shield
the code from that now and in the future, and will reduce code
duplication.

Thanks,
Guillem

Bug#750513: Move to udisks2, udisks 1 is deprecated

2014-06-03 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libqmmp-misc
Version: 0.7.5-1
Severity: normal
User: pkg-utopia-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: udisks1-deprecation

Hello,

this package currently suggests udisks 1. That has been
deprecated for a while now, in favor of udisks 2. Please port the
package to udisks 2 and drop code that uses the old
hal/devicekit-disks/udisks 1 bits.

Please note that udisks2 also has a library interface (libudisks2-0)
which is easier to use than raw D-BUS calls. It is also introspectable
(gir1.2-udisks-2.0) so you can use it from languages like Python.

The API is documented at http://udisks.freedesktop.org/docs/latest/ .

Thanks,
Michael

Choosing the config file based on the hostname, or the number of CPU's
(better in my lab, where there are dozens of machines), is probably OK.

But the HTOPRC environment variable is not documented! So, I didn't
know that this was possible. I've reported a new bug for its
documentation:

Bug#750505: htop: the HTOPRC environment variable is not documented

2014-06-03 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: htop
Version: 1.0.3-1
Severity: normal

According to

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=750110#73

one can change the config file with the HTOPRC environment variable,
and I could check that this works, but this environment variable is
not documented in the man page (which is the only htop documentation).

The man page should contain a section ENVIRONMENT mentioning it,
something like:

ENVIRONMENT

  HTOPRC
The configuration file (default: $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/htop/htoprc).
On a network with shared home directory, this allows the user to
set up a configuration file that depends on the hostname or the
number of CPU's.

It was an upstream decision to regress on this. It's likely possible
to set some flags to reenable this, but I won't have much time to look
into it, so I've tagged this bug "help".

Best wishes,
Mike

Bug#750497: don't use sysconf(_SC_SYMLOOP_MAX), please

2014-06-03 Thread Adam Borowski
I'm afraid this patch doesn't work. It makes the code compile, but if you
try to execute it, it will assume any symlinks form a loop.

The relevant snippet is:
if (++num_links > MAXSYMLINKS)
{
errno = ELOOP;
goto error;
}
which fails to execute if the returned value is -1. Linux' headers use an
arbitrary bogus value of MAXSYMLINKS 20 to let old code work, Hurd guys
decided that it's better for wrong code to fail at compilation stage.
It's the same story as MAX_PATH.

sysconf(_SC_SYMLOOP_MAX) returns -1 on Linux as well.

Bug#745948: inspircd: Direct gcrypt usage is gnutls-related

2014-06-03 Thread Peter Powell
Hi,

InspIRCd uses libgcrypt as a secure random number generator for
InspIRCd::GenRandom -- not for tuning GnuTLS. Please do not propose
modifications for code which you do not understand. This kind of behaviour
is what caused the May 2008 Debian security vulnerability in OpenSSL and is
a support nightmare for upstream developers as we have no idea if bugs are
caused by distribution modifications or not.

Instead of wasting time on this maybe you should consider updating your
packages which are almost three years out of date now and are missing a ton
of updates. It is becoming annoying having to tell people to build from
source every time they report a bug which was fixed years ago.

Bug#614509: Taking over maintenance of the viewvc package?

2014-06-03 Thread John Zaitseff
Hi,

It is somewhat disheartening to see a bug that I've opened in 2011
still unchanged in status---even though I've provided solutions over
the years. The last time the maintainer, David Martínez Moreno,
made a release was in 2010.

I still use this package extensively, and, in fact, was the one
responsible for its complete reworking back in 2010---see the
changelog entry for 1.1.5-1.

I would like to suggest taking over maintainership of the viewvc
package, as suggested in bug #532611 (messages 27 and 28). I am not
(yet!) sure of the procedure to do so, but I will be investigating,
as I aim to become a Debian Maintainer (and then Developer) in the
near future...

Yours truly,

Bug#750504: sks postinst script fails when no logfiles present

2014-06-03 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: sks
Version: 1.1.5-1
Severity: normal

the sks postinst script is set -e and it has:

LOG_FILES=$(cd ${SKS_DIR}/${DBHOME}; ls -1 | grep -E "^log\.")

which executes when the bdb recovery tool it wants to use doesn't exist.

in this scenario, if there is no logfile, then this assignment will
return a non-zero code, which causes set -e to fail. The postinst
script shouldn't be this brittle.

It is - in 2.8 the code looks like this:

bool wxImage::ConvertAlphaToMask(unsigned char threshold)
{
if ( !HasAlpha() )
return true;

But in 3.0, that same check returns "false" instead.

This is the ticket which motivated that change:

http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/12637

So your change there is good.

> Anyway, now migration to wxwidgets3.0 is a step nearer.

Indeed - thank you very much. If you're interested in working on
patches for wx3 support in other packages, please feel free to.

Luke - I'm intending to NMU with this patch if I don't hear anything
from you shortly as the testing AUTORM is due to happen on June 18th.
If you want me to hold off, just let me know.

Cheers,
Olly

I've applied the patch and made a new upload (3.1.3-4). I wasn't able
to test that the patched package actually exports with a suffix as I
don't seem to have any multipage SFF files to test with. Processing
a single page SFF file doesn't add a suffix - is that as expected?

Could you confirm the new upload actually fixes this issue (or if you
have a multipage SFF file you can distribute, feel free to send it over
and I can test with it).

Cheers,

Finding a reasonable IP range is indeed not so easy, but I still didn't
have any problems with the default range that libvirt
uses (192.168.122.0/24); most places will use 192.168.$x.0/24, with a small $x,
so I don't think
this will bring problems to many users.

Just to be sure, we can always ask for an IP range in debconf before
doing anything, so users that actually 192.168.0.0/16 have a chance to
set an acceptable IP range.

I don't know the exact details yet, but it would require figuring out
how libvirt does it and do it similarly. Hopefully there is some backend
package that does the actual work (setting up the bridge and the
iptables rules), if not we'll have to script that.

But on a high level, I think it could be like this:

- from debconf, ask both 1) whether to enable the bridge and 2) what IP
range to use. To avoid people busting their network setups by mistake
we could make both questions priority high, but I would default 1) to
"yes" and 2) to some 192.168.x.0/24 that is not already suggested by
  libvirt.

- have a service that will bring the bridge up on boot and tear it down
on shutdown, if enabled, or do nothing otherwise.

After some testing appears the problem is pkg-config is not installed, without pkg-config the
configure script fails to correctly detect libao which means it does not build ogg123 which

in turn causes a file not found error when it comes to build the debian
packages.

It appears pkg-config used to be pulled in indirectly by other build-depends
but no longer
is.

In an environment with pkg-config installed the package built successfully.
Please add it
to the build-depends (note: I have not tested in a minimal environment, so
there may be other
build-depends missing).

here's the session running the command as a normal user:

debian@beaglebone:~$ xelatex.ini
bash: xelatex.ini: command not found

(I don't have a file to give it. the binary however is *not* the problem.
I included in the initial report that it crashes on install, specificly
dpkg --configure called from within the script returns 1 (an error in dpkg
trying to configure the pkg.)

Refrence the initial report toward the end for the complete session.

ah, right; lxc-debconfig was only checking for the dpkg architecture,

Bug#750500: installation-reports: Jessie amd64 netinst encrypted LVM: stuck at /target/boot/efi vfat partition creation

2014-06-03 Thread Jean-Marc Liotier
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal
Tags: d-i

Dear Maintainer, the Debian Installer from
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso
remains stuck and unresponsive right after committing the partitioning and
formatting of an encrypted LVM full-disk setup. Switching between consoles and
using consoles other than the DI remains possible, but the DI won't exit the
screen announcing the creation of a vfat partition at /target/boot/efi. No
suspect syslog or dmesg entry is evident.

The Wheezy Debian Installer is perfectly functional using the same options on
the same host.

As I am currently waiting for the Wheezy DI to wipe the aforementioned host's
encrypted partition, I am unable to gather more details from it, but I will
upon request.

Bug#748634: chipw: NMU update to use wxwidgets3.0. Cleaned up and revised versions patch

2014-06-03 Thread Deivi San
tags 748634 + patch

Dear Olly,

In first place, thanks for your sugestions and time.

After
cleaning up comments and reconsidering all your recommendations I've
recompiled and tested with versions 2.8 and 3.0 of the library (both
available in testing) and it works fine. I've attached a new patch with
comments removed, versions verified and null checks in place.

wxWX2MBbuf is not wxString but a dual type macro so I have used casting instead
of your proposal.

The only doubt I hold is with function wxImage.ConvertAlphaToMask():
In 2.8 code works well with package included tiles (a bmp without Alpha
returns true). However, it fails when calling this function in 3.0 and
previous img.HasAlpha() check is required.
I guess it's an wxwidgets behavior change.

Anyway, now migration to wxwidgets3.0 is a step nearer.

Cheers,

Bug#750499: gvfs mounts the fat32 sd card of my 3g dongle with root ownership

2014-06-03 Thread Paretje
Source: gvfs
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Today, I wanted to copy my statistics course to the micro sd card I use for my
e-reader. I do this using my 3G dongle.

The first problem I encountered that the partitions weren't automatically
discovered. It was when the dongle was inserted during boot, or when I did a
touch /dev/sdb

Well, I could mount the FAT32 file system now, but the ownership was set to
root. I have tested it with an other FAT32 file system using a spare USB stick,
but this functioned well.

This is the output of gvfs-mount -io after inserting the dongle:

i'm aware of that, but that is not the problem. the problem is the

depends on how 'non-intrusive' it would be. can you describe the
procedure briefly you're thinking about?

While the attached patch looks correct, I'd very much prefer if we could
just mount /usr from the initramfs, which would make this issue obsolete.

Bug#750498: cups: server keeps timing out after 30secs idling with no way to change that

2014-06-03 Thread Nemo Inis
Package: cups
Version: 1.7.2-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Ever since cups 1.7.2-2, which contains a patch for bug #742666, and my switch
to systemd, the cups server exits after 30 seconds idling without a
configuration option to prevent that. In my case, that means:

- when I'm using the cups web interface at localhost:631, if I wait more than
30 seconds before clicking on anything, my browser reports "unable to connect"
and I've lost whatever work I was in the middle of (for example adding a
printer, etc...);

- cups starts/stops throughout the day, and every time, it triggers colord
(which I also run), which loads all my profiles, etc... and fills my syslog
telling me so;

- since I'm running a desktop machine, I'd rather not have settings meant for
laptops forced down on me; I'd like the option to run cups permanently without
timeout as it did before.

Thanks!

Bug#750497: mate-menus: FTBFS on hurd-i386

2014-06-03 Thread Svante Signell
Source: mate-menus
Version: 1.8.0-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd

Hi,

Currently mate-menus fails to build from source due to usage of
MAXSYMLINKS, which is not defined on GNU/Hurd. The attached patch
solves this problem by using the runtime function sysconf with argument
_SC_SYMLOOP_MAX to resolve that number.

Thanks!

Bug#750495: syslinux: FTBFS on many arches due to missing gnu-efi build-dependency

2014-06-03 Thread Bob Bib

Dear Maintainer,

syslinux FTBFS on many architectures
due to missing "gnu-efi" build-dependency,
please check the buildd logs:

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/package.php?p=syslinux&suite=unstable

(Is it ever meant to work on non-x86 architectures?)

Here is my minimal example, which does not work and shows the error:

\documentclass[twoside]{article}

%\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{fixltx2e}
\begin{document}
\begin{figure}[H]
\begin{center}
%\leavevmode
%\includegraphics[width=332pt]{group__globus__callback}
\end{center}
\end{figure}
\end{document}

When commenting out \usepackage{fixltx2e} the document compiles fine.

I did just yet. Everything builds fine, but building digikam with the
experimental version of imagemagik fails with [1]:

That doen't seem to be related to the marble or okular soversion change.

Just to be clear, building digikam with the marble new version and the
imagemagick from unstable builds fine. [2]

Can you go ahead and make --user default in Debian and document that as well?

I've done some very minimal testing. Installing the
u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin from your package on to a microSD-card
and booting it shows the u-boot prompt.

After setting ethaddr I could retrieve an ip via dhcp and ping
my gateway.

Not tried actually booting a linux kernel yet. (3.15.0-rc8 is
being uploaded to the archive as we speak... so I'm waiting for it
to be accepted and built on armhf.)

I'm not planning to use it myself right now, but others might very well
need it and maybe I will too in the future.
I see no reason not to enable it, but maybe you know better why not to.

FEL booting is for example needed for USB booting.

For more info on FEL see http://linux-sunxi.org/FEL and subpages like
http://linux-sunxi.org/FEL/USBBoot

Right now we only have MMC driver in the Debian kernel.
The NAND driver is going through reviews on Linux kernel mailing list
and will hopefully soon be merged (for 3.17 merge window maybe? If so, then
we can probably get it into 3.16 kernel for Debian in ~ 2 months.)

AFAIK normal booting is only available though MMC and NAND on the "A20" SoC,
so right now u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin is the most convenient to use.

Fwiw, u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin is just a combination of the other two
so they will still be built.

Also maybe we might soon need them split out for NAND booting (but I haven't
looked at what's needed for NAND booting yet).

I don't see a reason to not ship them (no compile time save and only minimal
size difference on the binary package), but again you might know better.

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson
