Bug#762950: also lost my digikam tags

2015-03-10 Thread Tomas Pospisek

retitle 762950 digikam: Removes all images from database when unaccessible
mount is found
severity 762950 grave
found 762950 digikam/4:4.4.0-1.1

thanks

Setting the severity to grave
=

I'm upping the severity of this bug to "grave". "reportbug" describes
severify "grave as follows:

"grave : makes the package in question unusable by most or all
users, or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole
allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package."

"causes data loss" is exactly what happens here and also to Austin
Clements.

I am using digikam exclusively to tag my fotos. So once I loose my tags
I've lost hours of work invested over years. IMO it's completely
unacceptable to loose users' data.

How to reproduce

What happened here is that there was a mounted partition hanging around
of a uncleanly terminated chroot which digicam could not access.

It wasn't visible in "df" either. I had to use "findmnt" to see it.

Once I had started digikam 4.4 from jessie for the first time, my Album
was empty and most photos were not tagged any more.

I stopped digikam, unmounted the problematic partition, restored
/where/my/pictures/live/digikam4.db from backup, restarted digikam and
voilà, there were my tags again.

Bug#780246: libsvn-perl: Segfault when applying large commit through git-svn

2015-03-10 Thread Jan Larres
Package: libsvn-perl
Version: 1.8.10-5
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

Hi,

when I use git-svn to clone or fetch from a repository, and the repository
contains a commit that modifies a large number of files, then perl will die
with a segfault when trying to apply that commit:

$ git svn fetch
A scenario-simulator/test/test-simulator.properties
A scenario-simulator/test/log4j.properties
...
[snip long list]
...
A
core-util/test/com/opencloud/util/concurrent/fibers/WhenUsingDefaultFiberFactory.java
A
core-util/test/com/opencloud/util/concurrent/TimingWheelExecutorTest.java
error: git-svn died of signal 11
$

This is 100% reproducible with the affected commits, making it essentially
impossible to fully clone these repositories. The only workaround I can think
of is doing a shallow clone starting at the next commit, which means you won't
get the full history.

I have attached a backtrace, and here is the output of running the command
with the perl debugger:

I just encountered similar behaviour. panic() really needs to call
"plymouth quit" before trying to do anything else.

Ubuntu's initramfs-tools has a system for running scripts on panic, which
Ubuntu's plymouth makes use of to do exactly this. Any chance this can be
imported into Debian? It seems fairly straightforward.

according to:

the problem is now fixed (probably in jessie). Can this bug be closed
then?

Bug#780244: unblock: freerdp/1.1.0~git20140921.1.440916e+dfsg1-4

2015-03-10 Thread Mike Gabriel
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package freerdp (already uploaded).

+ * debian/patches:
++ Add 0002_handle-old-style-cmdline-options.patch. Command line detection
+ is run with dummy settings where not everything is allocated. Collections
+ (device, dynamic channel and static channel) didn't handle this case
+ properly. (Closes: #779312).

-> Fix an open RC bug. The problem here is that the freerdp devs have
implemented a new cmdline interface style (options starting with a "/"
slash). The old cmdline style (--=value) is still supported
(legacy). However, various new features have new cmdline-style options,
but the legacy option parser lacks support for those. Even worse, some of
the new feature cannot be expressed via the old command line style,
syntactically.

Users are highly recommended to use the new cmdline style as proposed by
the latest version of the xfreerdp man page.

++ Add 0003_copy-data-when-adding-glyph-to-cache.patch. Copy data when
adding
+ glyph to cache. Fix double free or corruption inupdate_gdi_fast_glyph ->
+  glyph_cache_put -> _int_free (Closes: #740637).

-> Upstream provided another fix today for an issue that also has been
reported via Debian BTS (originally against package remmina). I have
included a fix for that double free or corruption issue with this upload.

light+love,
Mike

Could someone please upload new version of this package.

I just looked into this. The PITA is that I cannot apply the proposed
patch with the quilt tool as it does not handle the binary parts of
the patch well enough.

Any idea how to pull that patch in other than via a new upstream
release (which is a no-go before jessie).

Bug#775877: gnome-session: No mouse pointer after login

2015-03-10 Thread Tim
The cursor gets hidden when the Idle Monitors are not available (these were
moved into mutter around 3.10), so you won't have them in your
flashback session. This is probably an upstream bug, it doesnt look like the
cursor should really get hidden in this case, however the idle
monitors will always exist under GNOME3, so the error path is likely gone
undetected.

On Ubuntu flashback is using unity-settings-daemon in recent releases since it
provided better compatibility with the legacy desktops.

The cursor plugin just hides the cursor on touchscreen devices, it should be
fine to disable on normal desktops/laptops. However I would be
surprised if there are not other more serious bugs that exist when using
flashback with g-s-d, broken display config? non-existant screensaver
timeouts? unless these have been fixed upstream in recent times?

What do you think should be the right way to fix this?

Should aptitude preference things earlier in the or-group?

Hhhmm, this doesn't include the FontForge source so uploading it would
probably be a DFSG violation.

It would also be great if the Google folks could forward their changes
upstream instead of forking it.

> - Completed Bold version of Inconsolata in VBF format.

VFB format is from the proprietary FontLab tool. Is there a tool in
Debian main to build the TTF/OTF files from that? If not we would have
to move fonts-inconsolata to contrib.

Hello Stefano,

I have attached two patches. One fixes the issues we talked about
earlier today, and the other implements the "Show / Hide hidden files"

Subject: [PATCH 2/2] source_folder: add a show/hide hidden files button

Since that hidden files and directories are still passed to the view,
but are now given an 'hidden' boolean attribute, we can show or hide
them once the page is loaded.

I also changed the way javascript was loaded in debsources.js, so that
it does not run unnecessary code (for example we don't need to print
line numbers in folders).

Bug#780240: libgphoto2-port10: Wrong transition package for ABI changing library

2015-03-10 Thread Guillem Jover
Package: libgphoto2-port10
Version: 2.5.7-1
Severity: serious

Hi!

The new version in experimental, has turned the libgphoto2-port10 into
a transitional package for libgphoto2-port12 (w/o any rationale on the
debian/changelog nor in debian/rules, nor any commit message as the git
repo does not contain any of those changes either).

The new library does break the ABI, so I don't see why the transition
package? This will break applications using it.

Thanks,
Guillem

Bug#780239: log timestamps could be off by a whole minute

2015-03-10 Thread 積丹尼 Dan Jacobson
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt7-1
Severity: wishlist

Here's a risk I sent to
http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/28.55.html#subj13
which ought to also be reported here.

One day in a court of law, the log files of a computer system will be
used to prove that some incident happened at some certain time.

Let's have a look.

journalctl says
Mar 10 03:14:32 jidanni2 kernel: sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI
Mar 10 03:14:32 jidanni2 kernel: EXT4-fs (sda8): mounted filesys

/var/log/kern.log says
Mar 10 03:14:47 jidanni2 kernel: [4.000166] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb
Mar 10 03:14:47 jidanni2 kernel: [ 62.534080] EXT4-fs (sda8):

So did this happen at 03:14:32 or 03:14:47 or is all we in fact really
know was that there was an entire (62 - 4 =) 58 second gap between the
two lines?

The latter: my screen froze for a minute.

Blends-dev has never behaved that Depends in the tasks file ended up in
a Depends in debian/contol. This was even the case before blends-dev
existed and the behaviour was taken over to stay compatible. I was
never fully happy about this but it is the documented and intended
behaviour that metapackages do not have hard dependencies. If I
remember correctly this is policy also for non-blends-dev generated
packages in "Section: metapackage". The only thing is that it is
confusing to type "Depends" in the tasks file and not ending up as
"Depends". It is on my very long term todo list to deprecate "Depends"
in the tasks files and use "Recommends" instead to avoid this.

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Bug#780238: sshguard: Sshguard is not able to configure the firewall

2015-03-10 Thread Joao Luis Meloni Assirati
Package: sshguard
Version: 1.5-6
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Sshguard has erratic behaviour on bootup, sometimes failing to start, sometimes
starting itself but unable to function.

This is due to the fact that the init script /etc/init.d/sshguard is not able
to configure the chain sshguard with iptables.

This would be done by the following commands in /etc/init.d/sshguard script:

iptables -N sshguard 2> /dev/null
ip6tables -N sshguard 2> /dev/null
iptables -I INPUT -j sshguard 2> /dev/null
ip6tables -I INPUT -j sshguard 2> /dev/null

Unfortunately, stderr is discarded. Removing the stderr redirection, the
following message appears:

"Another app is currently holding the xtables lock."

This happens because the first iptables returns before the kernel is properly
configured, which prevents the following three.

One way to fix this issue is to call iptables and ip6tables commands with
switch -w:

iptables -w -N sshguard
ip6tables -w -N sshguard
iptables -w -I INPUT -j sshguard
ip6tables -w -I INPUT -j sshguard

Attached is my modified /etc/init.d/sshguard.

Bug#780237: unblock: ifupdown/0.7.53

2015-03-10 Thread Andrew Shadura
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package ifupdown

I've got a bug, #775660, in ifupdown which I think should be fixed in Jessie.

I'm not sure how many our users does it affect, but I agree with Marco
it's good to fix it.

Patch: http://anonscm.debian.org/hg/collab-maint/ifupdown/rev/adfae04d9df8

Also, one of the last uploads introduced an incorrect warning appearing
on every Jessie install (but not in any release before) caused by
incorrect handling of wordexp's return values: * pattern expands into *
when there are not matches, not in an empty list, so a warning is
printed for every ifupdown invocation, as the default config includes
all files matching /etc/network/interfaces.d/*, and there are none of
them. The fix for this is 5 lines of code not counting includes, so it's
pretty trivial and I think it should be included.

Patch: http://anonscm.debian.org/hg/collab-maint/ifupdown/rev/79188bbab56f

unblock ifupdown/0.7.53

The use of

systemd
init
systemd system and service manager

in systemd.xml looks correct to me.

We also package the /usr/share/man/man1/init.1.gz symlink in systemd-sysv

This indeed might be a man-db issue, which should prefer "real" files
over such embedded references.

Bug#780236: pyspread: Missing dependencies for pyspread v0.4

2015-03-10 Thread Martin Manns
Package: pyspread
Version: 0.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Pyspread v0.4 has dependencies that are not stated by the package
pyspread (0.4-1):

 * python-cairo
 * libpangocairo-1.0-0

Maybe additional Cairo packages are required such as
the packages python-gi-cairo and libcairo-gobject2

Pyspread v0.4 also recommends one additional package:
 * python-rsvg (for svg support)

Could you please add the missing dependencies?

Regards

Martin

Bug#775877: gnome-session: No mouse pointer after login

2015-03-10 Thread Cam Hutchison
I've had this problem for about a year (from memory) on both Debian
and Ubuntu. My situation may be uncommon though - I run
gnome-fallback/flashback or whatever it is called now so I can run a
gnome desktop with fvwm.

I discovered my problem to be related to the gnome settings daemon
cursor plugin. Turning it off made my cursor come back:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active false

I can reproduce this (currently under Ubuntu, but I'll give it another
try when I get to my Debian desktop tonight) by setting that key to
true:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active true

I have no idea what this plugin is meant to do and I see no
detrimental affects from turning it off.

Bug#780235: "man init" brings up systemd(8) despite /sbin/init coming from sysvinit-core

2015-03-10 Thread Samuel Bronson
Package: systemd
Version: 215-12
Severity: important
File: /usr/share/man/man1/systemd.1.gz

Dear Maintainer,

When I run "man init", I expect to see the manpage corresponding to
/sbin/init; since /sbin/init comes from sysvinit-core on my system,
that would be init(8), but I get systemd(1) instead.

This is seems to be partly because section 1 is before section 8 in
the search path, and partly because of the "whatis" entry:

--8<---cut here---start->8---
.SH "NAME"
systemd, init \- systemd system and service manager
--8<---cut here---end--->8---

which (given the path/filename and the stuff passed to .TH) presumably
gives man-db the impression that this file should be considered to
provide the init(1) manpage, rather than init(8) as it should be.

It might be time to finally ask the man-db maintainer to stop
including/using whatis entries in the database, or at least to use
them only as a last resort...

This looks weird. Have you tried to reproduce it somewhere else? Does
it happen all the time?

Those are two separate software, with separate upstream authors.
Search the package archive please before reporting a bug with wrong
severity.

apt-get install nodejs npm

is what you want.

before you open another bug, you might want to check nodejs-legacy as
well.

Jérémy.

Bug#722249: Man pages ready

2015-03-10 Thread Maarten Baert
Man pages are now included upstream, and will be included in the next
release (0.3.4). I don't have any new features right now that would
warrant a new release though, so you may want to include the man pages
as a patch for now, so you don't have to wait for them (the next release
could be months away).

Bug#774914: firmware-linux-nonfree: Include the intel sst firmwares required for audio on Bay Trail

2015-03-10 Thread René Wagner

Hi Antonio,

On 03/04/2015 04:17 PM, Antonio Ospite wrote:

Sound is not working yet, TBH I sent this report to Debian after I
managed to successfully load the drivers and upload the firmware
without further tests, I guess I was just trusting what
linux-firmware was shipping and thought I could solve the problem in
the kernel.

I can confirm that the firmware files from linux-firmware.git appear to
be loaded successfully with Linux 4.0-rc2. If I read the kernel log
correctly the driver fails to complete its initialization process,
though, so there's still no sound output. For future reference I've
attached the corresponding kernel log.

Intel developers confirmed that there may be difference in how the
hardware is connected between boards[1], and here is the bug report
about that[2].

Thanks for the links. I had been positive about Linux support for the
Venue 8 Pro, but I guess my model 5845 is sufficiently different from
the 5830 (that everyone else seems to be using) to cause trouble. Audio
isn't a top priority to me but the lack of accelerated graphics (screen
goes black when X is started with the Intel/i915 driver) is a show
stopper which I suppose is something for a new bug report...

I haven't given up on audio entirely though. If I figure anything out
I'll let you know.

Rene

Thanks for your answer, Raph. With that information and what followed
in further mails, I'll try to build a package with at least the .ttf
file and the .sfd source (if I can find my way on the repository) but,
certainly, having a disributable tarball (with README, license,
OFL-FAQ, etc. and even a Makefile, as Paul Wise suggested) would be
great. But, of course, I understand you may run short of time for
this.

We'll do our bestas often in free software..:-)

Bug#780233: fonts-inconsolata: Please package v1.014 from Google Font Directory

2015-03-10 Thread Antoine Musso
Package: fonts-inconsolata
Version: 001.010-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I found out on wikipedia that the inconsolata font has been forked on
Google Foot Directory. It has been fully hinted and a bold variant
created.

Project directory:
https://code.google.com/p/googlefontdirectory/source/browse/ofl/inconsolata/

ChangeLog:

18 September 2012 (Alexei Vanyashiin) Inconsolata bold v. 1.014
- Fixed spacing issue associated with the character "4" and "0"
- Applied ttfautohint (to fix windows rendering problem that occurred in
  v 1.000)

7 December 2011 (Kirill Tkachev) Inconsolata Bold v. 1.000
- Completed Bold version of Inconsolata in VBF format.

https://code.google.com/p/googlefontdirectory/source/browse/ofl/inconsolata/FONTLOG.txt

That would probably close https://bugs.debian.org/618568 which state the
bold font is too wide in konsole. I only have Medium and Oblique
myself but that is an other story.

Bug#722249: help with debian packageing simplescreenrecorder

2015-03-10 Thread Maarten Baert
The text for the man pages can be taken from the --help output of both
simplescreenrecorder and ssr-glinject. There is a tool that can do this
automatically IIRC, but some reformatting may be needed. I can maintain
manpages upstream (which is probably desirable), but I have no
experience with creating them. I'll do some searching and try to come up
with something.

If there's anything else that I can do upstream to make packaging
easier, don't hesitate to let me know :).

Bug#780203: general: Cannot have more than 2 desktops

2015-03-10 Thread Christopher Baines
Just for completeness, here is how you would get 8 workspaces (desktops)
in Gnome.

Firstly, and the easiest way, is to have at least 7 windows open, one
per workspace. An 8th workspace will be automatically available, and
will be empty.

If you wish to have a static number of workspaces, change the setting in
the Tweak Tool [1]. On the left hand side of the window, select the
Workspaces button. Then change workspace creation to static. Input the
number of workspaces in to the box below.

1: If you cannot find it, you may need to install it, the package name
is gnome-tweak-tool (sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool)

Please unblock package memtest86

This is a documentation-only upload to make it clear that this is the
last dfsg-free version of memtest86.

Its goal is to make our users aware of a license change which upstream
does not communicate about:

* to avoid users loosing their time to report the new releases -

* to avoid our users downloading a non-dfsg-free version by error
thinking the Debian package is just outdated, and point them users

Dear Eriberto,
>From the issue/bug it seems the issue lies at ca-certificate side and
not python per-se. When you are/were trying with the old python, you
were still using the ca-certificates 20141019 or some other version of
that as well. This has not been told in the bug.

Also is it possible, that the previous version of python has some of
the certificates bundled within itself and in the new version, the
task has been to given to ca-certificates.

If so, then the issue will lie at ca-certificates and ask them why
they removed it ?

Also you should look at the NEWS.gz of the python 2.7.9 to see if you
can track something useful within the changes from 2.7.8 to 2.7.9 . I
did a quick skim, nothing jumped at me, maybe you could do a better
job of looking through it.

$ python --version
Python 2.7.9

/usr/share/doc/python2.7$ zcat NEWS.gz | less

Look forward to hearing from you both on the ca-certificates side and python.

If we are able to determine which one is the culprit, we can file a
bug there and get it fixed in sid.

As we are in freeze, don't think you will be able to get it into
jessie, your motivation should be to get it into sid and then later
into jessie+1 (Stretch). What you could also do is later try getting
into debian-backports where it may or may not work (sort of best
effort but may not work kinda thing). See
http://backports.debian.org/

Waiting to see the new release in Debian but making sure that it will
remain here for a long time, so getting the root cause fixed even
though it takes time would be good.

Bug#779495: Vanilla AVR toolchain

2015-03-10 Thread Hakan Ardo
Hi,
whoever of the two that are most "out of date" varies from time to
time and from feature to feature. I guess it depends on where in their
release cycle they are and how hard a time Atmel is having to get
their patches accepted upstream. Also, there seems to be some patches
in binutils that avr-develoopers depend on, that will never be
accepted upstream (for whatever reason). Also, when using the Atmel
release we get a full toolchain (gcc, binutils and libc) well tested
to work for avr develoopment.

However, there is a version 3.4.5 release of the Atmel sources which
we should upgrade to. It's still based on gcc 4.8.1 though.

Well, that's bizarre. kwalletd uses libgpgme to handle GPG encryption. I
have no idea why gpg2 is launched on your system. Checking on my system
(I'm using GPG backend) there's no gpg2 spawned. I can also confirm
never having seen this behavior.

Double-check done. Their "unversionned tarball inside an iso inside a
tarball" (showcasing how far they are from our culture ;) contains
files timestamped 2014-05-13, and display_init() in init.c does say
"Memtest86 v4.3.7".

Bug#751728: apt-get warns about "stable-updates"

2015-03-10 Thread David Kalnischkies
Control: tags -1 - patch

Hi,

(late, but better late than never…)
reassign to the ftpmasters as the archive is their realm rather
than the realm of apt - apt is just a client using it…

This is reported in #509574 (and merges) as well as #714726.
The warning is caused by the content of the 'usual' release
Release files - see these bugs for details.

I leave this bug open for the other issue you reported:

APT isn't using these files. You can 'force' it to do it by using this
directory as a flat-repository. Not a good idea as this would be
unsigned and all, but well your choice. In terms of apt it might be
equally well to drop these files entirely as unsigned flats work "fine"
without a Release file, too – and it looks even more like a bad idea
this way (which is always good).

I don't know about other (non-)users of these Release files through.

Best regards

David Kalnischkies

The message you should see when trying to report a bug on one of the
firmware packages is:

You are about to report a bug on a firmware package.
This package does not contain any drivers and is probably not
responsible
for the bug you have found.

If you want to report a bug in a Linux kernel module, use the 'modinfo'
command to find where it is installed and then give the filename to
'reportbug'.

Bug#780229: unblock (pre-approval): mate-settings-daemon/1.8.2-3

2015-03-10 Thread Mike Gabriel
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org

Please consider unblocking planned upload of package mate-settings-daemon.

+ * debian/changelo:
++ Fix typo in previous changelog stanza.

Is that ok as I did that in the .debdiff? Should this be mentioned here?

+ * debian/patches:
++ Add debian/patches/1001_fix-numlock-cpu-usage.patch. Prevent m-s-d from
+ causing high CPU load if the user repetitively toggles the NUMLOCK key
+ while being connected via a remote session (NX, X2Go, VNC, xrdp, etc.)
+ or sometimes also in a local X.org session. (Closes: #780226,
+ LP:1364111).

-> This issue has been bugging me personally and also a customer of mine
for a while now when connected to MATE via X2Go. I always thought that it
was related to nxagent/x2goagent.

While triaging bug reports in the MATE upstream issue tracker, I stumbled
over the patch shipped with this upload proposal (see #780226 for
details).

The provided patch by Nilesh Govindrajan fixes the high CPU load issue
(and probably also another issue observed under X2Go [1]).

light+love,
Mike

Is the floppy _drive_ disabled (drive type set to 'none'), or the floppy
_controller_ (in an 'on-board devices' menu)? In the latter case

In any case, the BIOS performs initial assignment of IRQs, so this
conflict is probably a BIOS bug. Do any of the following workarounds
work for you?

- Disable/enable the floppy controller in the BIOS (i.e. invert the
  current setting)
- Disable assignment of IRQ#6 by the BIOS, if possible (probably an
option in a menu labelled 'Plug and Play' or similar)
- Add kernel parameter 'pci=usepirqmask' (but the bug this works around
seems to be mostly found in laptops)
- Blacklist the floppy driver:
  echo 'blacklist floppy' > /etc/modprobe.d/floppy-blacklist.conf

Bug#780226: Num lock toggling causing mate-settings-daemon, xorg cpu runaway, LED astable

2015-03-10 Thread Mike Gabriel

Package: mate-settings-daemon
Severity: grave
Version: 1.8.2-2

Hi,

while triaging MATE bugs, I stumbled over this issue [1]. A similar
Ubuntu bug exists [2] that's probably tackling the same issue.

I have just tested if the issue exists in Debian jessie using
x2goagent/nxagent as remote session agent/Xserver. I can confirm that
the MATE session becomes unusable when toggling NUMLOCK several times
(something that people do...).

I have tested a build of mate-settings-daemon with the patch provided
under [1] applied and the issue is fixed.

As a side-effect, it seems that a NUMLOCK sync problem between local
desktop and X2Go session running MATE reported in X2Go [3] has been
fixed with this patch applied, as well.

Greets,
Mike

Bug#780225: ITP: libdontdie -- library that sets the TCP keep-alive flag when applications call socket

2015-03-10 Thread Thorsten Alteholz

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Thorsten Alteholz

* Package name: libdontdie
  Version : 1.2.0
  Upstream Author : Andreas Florath
* URL : https://github.com/flonatel/libdontdie
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: C
Description : library that sets the TCP keep-alive flag when applications
call socket

libdontdie is a shared library that can be injected into any application
with the LD_PRELOAD mechanism. It is completely transparent to the
application and therefore works equally well with closed-source programs
and with languages like Java that do not natively allow changing the TCP
keep-alive parameters.

Bug#780223: unblock: puppet/3.7.2-3

2015-03-10 Thread Apollon Oikonomopoulos
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Dear Release Team,

I intend to upload puppet 3.7.2-3, fixing the #774643, #775795 and
#778891 RC bugs and would like your pre-approval, since the list of
changes is not small. In short, the changes introduced (grouped by bug)
are:

 - #775795
A patch to the Debian service provider, as attached in the bug
report. This has been tested and working properly on both, sysv and
   systemd systems.

 - #774643
+ A patch attached to the bug report, that does the minimal set of
changes required for puppet to work with ActiveRecord 4. The patch
has been tested in production without any ill side-effects. Note
that the patch has been slightly improved to require
deprecated_finders only on ActiveRecord versions that strictly need
 it.
   + Have puppetmaster-common Recommend: ruby-activerecord and
 ruby-activerecord-deprecated-finders. Although activerecord was not
in the Recommends: before, the dependency on deprecated-finders is
not straightforward for users to figure out and so was deemed
 necessary to add.

 - #778891
+ A patch submitted originally with the bug report that enables the
systemd unit to use $DAEMON_OPTS, solving part of the issue.
+ Partial revert of an earlier decision to remove (using rm_conffile)
/etc/default/puppet, as the defaults file is still used by the
initscript and systemd unit file if present.
+ A change in puppet-common's preinst to administratively disable the
puppet agent when upgrading from versions where the START flag had
an impact. This is done to preserve the semantics of the START flag
in the same rationale as the initial decision to disable the puppet
agent on fresh installs. This specific case was also discussed in
#778891 as having potential security implications.
+ A NEWS entry clarifying the above behavior and adding a note for
people running puppet via cron (a rather common setup) that the
upgrade might administratively disable the agent.

The upload also adds upstream metadata in debian/upstream/metadata and
fixes the Source field in debian/copyright.

See the attached debdiff for the full set of changes.

Regards,
Apollon

Bug#779825: no port attached to webserver

2015-03-10 Thread Michael Lustfield
I've seen this in other packages such as mysql. Admittedly, it can be a bit
frustrating that an inability to cleanly update/install a package can cause
issues during an upgrade.

However, it is possible that something else may depend on a package cleanly
upgrading before it can proceed. I can think of a few cases where this
could happen.

To be perfectly honest, I'd like to make an inability to start not prevent
a clean upgrade as well. We'll definitely need to discuss it a bit. I do
wish there was a Debian policy about this because we've really just stuck
with how most packages behave.

It should say "selected", and nothing when nothing is selected. I'll

I just looked at the patch provide under [1], but it does not fix this

The patches improves things a bit, but orca still says "not-selected"
all the time, so not providing that patch under [1] until we can fix
icon view completely in Caja when orca is in use.

Bug#722249: help with debian packageing simplescreenrecorder

2015-03-10 Thread Paul Elliott

I have seen the ITP on simplescreenrecorder.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=722249

I have decided to help out packaging this package.

Whoever owns this bug and is working on this please clone:
g...@github.com:pelliott80/simplescreenrecorder-dpm.git
or
https://github.com/pelliott80/simplescreenrecorder-dpm.git

This is a packaging repository used for packaging. It
is in dpm format.
http://git-dpm.alioth.debian.org/

This is the most common format for packaging work on alioth.

packages in this format usually have at least 3 branches,
upstream, pristine-tar, and master.

upstream contains the upstream's source unmodified.
pristine-tar is used to reconstruct a tarball.
master is the files as modified for packaging
there will be a debian directory and the source may
be modified by any patches.

here is the changelog entry I used to help get this package
into Debian:

simplescreenrecorder (0.3.3-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * volunteer to help get it into Debian.
  * change to non-native package; native packages do not make it into Debian.
  * update standards version to 3.9.6
  * remove unneeded build dependency on build-essential
  * remove duplicate dependency in build depends, libxext-dev, libx11-dev,
  - libxfixes-dev
  * use correct format specification URI
  - https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/
  * remove indefinite article from Description field
  * wrap too long line in Description field
  * remove empty debian/postinst
  * update copyright file
  * fix VCS fields
  - VCS fields should point to the source control for the packaging;
  - not the source control for the program.
  * create debian/watch file.

As I see it the outstanding issues on getting this package into
Debian is the lack of manpages for ssr-glinject and simplescreenrecorder.

Perhaps the upstream, Maarten Baert, could be persuaded to write those
manpages. He knows those programs best.

By the way, who owns this bug? perhaps we could collaborate in getting
this program into Debian?

Best Wishes to all.

I dont understand why it's not a depends in the packages, the source has this:

< h01ger> | $ rgrep pxelinux tasks
< h01ger> | tasks/main-server:Depends: isc-dhcp-server-ldap,
pxelinux, syslinux-common, \

So it should be a dependency already. Andreas, any hints to fix this?

All these packages exist in jessie and have to be installed after
upgrading from wheezy as they are new in jessie (like gosa-plugin-netgroups,
killer ans goplay) or have been installed as (new) recommends in jessie.

Bug#710321: task: didn't handle conffile rename correctly

2015-03-10 Thread Jakub Wilk

Control: found -1 2.4.1+dfsg-3

I still see both conffiles on my disk:

$ ls -l /etc/bash_completion.d/task*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6082 Mar 1 22:51 /etc/bash_completion.d/task
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6082 Mar 1 22:51 /etc/bash_completion.d/task.sh

I believe it's because the version passed to dpkg-maintscript-help is
too low.

Quoting the manpage: “If the conffile has not been shipped for several
versions, and you are now modifying the maintainer scripts to clean up
the obsolete file, prior-version should be based on the version of the
package that you are now preparing, not the first version of the package
that lacked the conffile.”

IIRC pxelinux is needed in jessie (as opposed to wheezy) due to changes
in setting up PXE booting. And it is IMO missing after the upgrade cause
it is installed as a recommends in jessie.

All the packages exist in jessie. IIRC some are installed as recommends
during a new jessie installation. When upgrading from wheezy they are

This seems to work in the backported version of MATE but not in unstable.

Full .xsession-errors from a minimal session attached.

Within the last months I sometimes peaked at my xsession-errors log

I will close your bug report, as I could not reproduce your issue

peculiar messages, as if you are using a very weird Xserver underneath
MATE.

Bug#780028: init: aptitude upgrade from wheezy to jessie does not install systemd-sysv

It wouldn't. upgrade uses the same logic as dist-upgrade does,
just that every forbidden action on packages is changed to a keep
as well as recursively everything broken by this at the end.

That means that 'apt upgrade' isn't choosing sysvinit over systemd
just because it can't install systemd as it requires removes. It will
hold back init instead specifically because systemd requires a remove.

It also means that if you convince the algorithm that systemd is
unavailable as a choice (e.g. with the pin mentioned in the release
notes) 'apt upgrade' would install init with sysvinit.

Which leads us to…

> I like that idea!

… the problem(s) with this idea: 'upgrade' is forbidden to break
recommends, so that what I described last isn't happening anymore
(init is again held back).
'dist-upgrade' will happily break them if it has to through, so this
regression is esoteric at best.

My real problem with it is the message this is sending. Not for init
but for how a default choice is made in or-groups in general:
The recommendation of systemd over sysvinit is already expressed by the
or-group order, which is a pretty important property and used all over
the place, not just by init, but httpd, mta, … as its defined as such by
policy (§7.5) in the context of Provides.

It has no practical effects for apt in this specific case as the
decision is already made (via pin or not), but without one it would
be a setup for trouble as or-group members would fight each other as
breaking recommends is bad (which is why aptitude reacts at all).

So, while I can accept if we do this to 'fix' aptitude (and I see also
a bit of semantic value in it) I have to highlight that this is not
a blueprint for defaults in or-groups – quite the opposite and something
should be done to 'fix' this in aptitude in general (even through
I realize that this is dangerously close to core principles).

Best regards

David Kalnischkies

P.S.: I am also realizing now that I 'happily' omitted -core and -sysv
in the mentions of specific inits by accident. So its now left as an
exercise for the reader to add the right suffix at the right place…

This purging is only needed from the POV of a clean system, having the
next upgrade in mind...

IMO the main problem might be that 'cfengine-debian-edu' would purge
needed packages before autoremoving automatically installed ones.

thanks for your feedback. Another way to workaround the issue is to enable the
upower service with: systemctl enable upower

Upower is then started automatically during boot.

I tested another notebook, Dell Latitude E6330 and the issue is exactly the
same. Also the workaround is the same.

Since there are several years between the release dates of the two tested
notebooks, it does not look like a hardware specific issue to me. Or the
affected hardware base is really large. I'll tend to change the severity back
to grave as I don't think that Jessie should be released with a non-working
power management in KDE, but waiting for your feedback first.

Stuart, as you could not reproduce the issue, please can you provide more
details on when upower is started on your setup?

Thanks

Andreas

Hi
It is not possible for me to analyze the problem as you have not
described any error message or similar.
Also you do not mention what kernel and software version you used
when it worked.

What I need to have are:
   - Logs
   - What you are connected to
   - Software version of pptp-linux before upgrade
   - Software version of pptp-linux after upgrade
   - Software version of the kernel before upgrade
   - Software version of the kernel after upgrade.
   - Your configuration

   Please describe this.

Pptp-linux has not been changed for a very long time (almost two
years) so I doubt that it is the cause of the problem.

This is actually a more severe bug than it feels, as it should be

Bug#780129: Does CVE-2015-1609 apply to squeeze's version of mongodb?

I think it's not affected, but I'm not a security expert and don't
have the exploit to test it against 1.4.x versions. I think neither
the Wheezy version (v2.0) is affected. BSON support is modularized in
it, but can't find the affected file nor the function in the source.
It would be much better if someone with more security knowledge
approve or refute me in this matter.

Sure, 1.4.4 is way too old, released in June, 2010. As I know, 2.4 to
3.0 versions are supported. But to answer your question, BSON support
was already part of MongoDB that time. It was integrated and was not a
separate part of the project that it's now. I think the modularity
came somewhere before the 2.0 versions (it was incremental in between,
1.5, 1.6 to 1.9 and so on).

> I don't have any specific knowledge of that codebase and would like to
> have your analysis on this issue.
Beware, me neither have knowledge of the source in detail as I'm in
no affiliate with MongoDB, Inc. in any way.

Laszlo/GCS

-> Prevent a11y (keyboard) configuration dialog from crashing when clicking

[1].

I could reproduce the observed issue with 1.8.2-1 of m-s-d and can
confirm that it is fixed with this upload.

As this is an a11y that was easy to fix I directly uploaded the package
(unfortunately with a typo in the changelog).

I think I'll wait for the updated packages to be staged in experimental

Bug#779825: no port attached to webserver

2015-03-10 Thread Ivan Baldo
Shirish, doesn't matter if your ISP doesn't have IPv6, thats no
reason to disable it system wide and not using it, loopback connections
will use it, as well maybe LAN connections.

Nginx will listen on both IPv4 and IPv6.
You are using a non standard setup so problems like this will happen.
Regarding dh_installinit, I disagree thats the best behavior, for
me it would be best that it complains but continues the configuration
ignoring the error anyway; the init file is correctly installed, it just
failed to start it, thats not an installation problem, there is nothing
wrong with the installation... though that probably should be discussed
in another wishlist report or a mailing list...

This bug should be closed then, thanks very much to everyone!

El 10/03/15 a las 13:08, shirish शिरीष escibió:

This is definitely the problem, nginx cannot bind an ipv6 socket so it

The package stays in unconfigured state when nginx could not be started,
this is standard behaviour: dh_installinit by default adds a stanga in
the postinst script that runs `invoke-rc.d start || exit $?`.
So when the service fails the script exits with a non-zero exit status.

Please let me know what do you want to do so I know what action I need
to take my end -

a. Wait for you to package a patched version.
b. Think of how I can get IPv6 only on the loopback interface 'lo' .

This is how I had done it

https://wiki.debian.org/DebianIPv6#How_to_turn_off_IPv6

basically

~$ cat /etc/default/grub | grep ipv6
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="ipv6.disable=1 init=/lib/systemd/systemd"

You can delete the `listen` ipv6 line from your nginx config (probably
/etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default) and run an `apt-get install` to
reconfigure the package. That should fix the issue for you.

Hi Christos,
Thank you for taking time off and helping. I don't see IPv6 mentioned
anywhere in the file explicitly but I am guessing you are saying to
delete line 18 from the file.

listen [::]:80 default_server;

If my understanding is correct then the ::: are for IPv6 as the
addresses are pretty large.

It's a good thing that the sites-available/default file is from
nginx-common package

$ dpkg -L nginx-common | grep default
/etc/default
/etc/default/nginx
/etc/nginx/sites-available/default

So I deleted that line and then reinstalled the package.

~$ sudo aptitude install nginx-full
The following partially installed packages will be configured:
   nginx-full

D01: cmpversions a='0:1.17.24' b='0:1.16' r=1

For some reason I like aptitude more than apt-get, does the same
thing, as can be seen it reconfigures the package and doesn't complain
anymore.

Then ran the test :-

$  sudo /usr/sbin/nginx -t
nginx: the configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok
nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test is successful

Made sure that dpkg says it is installed just fine :-

$ dpkg -l nginx-full
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold

||/ Name   Version  Architecture
   Description
+++-==---=
ii nginx-full 1.6.2-5 amd64
   nginx web/proxy server (standard version)

So, essentially the work-around works. Now the standard behavior
"should be" that if IPv6 fails, it should fall-back to IPv4 but for
some reason that isn't happening.

Just as a caveat also saw this
http://www.ipv6-test.com/stats/country/IN, so it seems it will take a
few more years for Ipv6 to become dominant at least here in India.
