You are right, this should had been overwritten with the updated

It shows that the license since 2005 is BSD-3-Clause which is

Bug#805526: Patch

2016-05-07 Thread Maiku
So I played with this some more and came up with this patch. It fixes
the issue for me.
Description: Fix text/cc subtitles with Matroska container
When encoding a file which includes a Closed Captions subtitles track
(CEA-608 or similar), Handbrake on Debian fails to transcode to a
Matroska container. This is due to upstream Handbrake using libav, while
Debian uses ffmpeg. The former uses AV_CODEC_ID_SSA for Matroska, while
the latter uses AV_CODEC_ID_ASS. ffmpeg also appears to not require the
same additional information as libav. This patch fixes both of these
 issues.

Please re-write the description to conform with Debian Policy §3.4 and
Developer's Reference §6.2.

In particular, the synopsis should not be a sentence. Instead it should
be a noun phrase stating what the package installs, as characterised in
Policy §3.4.1 and Developer's Reference §6.2.2.

This bug report doesn't appear to have the proposed long description for
the package; please write one (as per the above documentation) and put
it in this bug report.

This still happens, and with the kernel upgraded to the latest Debian

I release that this system has a fairly old CPU (AMD Sempron 2600+), but
does the occurrence of a watchdog event potentially highlight a worrying

Bug#823716: courier-imap-ssl: /usr/sbin/imapd depends on /etc/courier/imapd-ssl (and vice versa)

2016-05-07 Thread J Mo
Package: courier-imap-ssl
Version: 4.16.2+0.75.0-18
Severity: normal

I noticed that /usr/sbin/imapd has a dependency on the config file
/etc/courier/imapd-ssl, and vice-versa for the imapd-ssl control script.

This seems to create a dependency problem.

Additionally, those control script have some unfortunate "forgot make
install-configure?" printfs which don't apply to Debian.

Courier IMAP wasn't really designed to be cut into two different packages.
Maybe it's worthwhile to combine them into one, or these scripts may need to be
altered. I am not sure what the right thing to do is on this one.

Bug#822067: courier-mta: init scripts completely broken

2016-05-07 Thread J Mo

Hi

Sorry I've been silent. My linux desktop motherboard died about a week
ago and I had to deal with issues surrounding that.

Here are the init scripts which I am currently using. These work for me:

http://jmomo.net/files/courier-init/

If you find any problems let me know and we can work it out. Keep an eye
out for any bash-isms I might have missed.

Notes/thoughts:

I am not using any other parts of the courier suite. I would not mind
looking at all of those and doing it but I'm not sure I have the time
right now. I'll add it to my TODO list and let you know if I get around
to it.

These don't use the init-d-script method because bugs #822753 and
#822674 break it for us. I don't think init-d-script is usable. I like
the idea but it has multiple serious bugs and is abandoned by it's
authors as far as I can tell. Fixing and testing would take a lot of
work and it's pretty obvious that basic LSB/Debian policy testing was
never done.

I'm not sure what the original motive was for splitting up courier-mta
into courier-mta, courier-msa, courier, and courier-filter, but I kept
it that way. However, this is a behavior change which is worthy of a
NEWS item by itself. People who expect configuration to be reloaded by
using courier-mta are not getting what they used to get.

courierd itself does not create a PID file, so getting status on it is
non-ideal, but it works. This is an upstream issue.

courier-authdaemon status can not be obtained by a non-privileged user
due to directory permissions. This is consistent with prior behavior.

Those init scripts may need to consider if upstart or systemd is in use
on the system and behave appropriately. I don't know what official
policy is on this one. I need to look it up. Added it to my TODO list.

I called the main courier daemon a "scheduler" since that's mostly what
it does but you might want to call it something else? I don't know.

On 04/27/2016 12:14 AM, Ondřej Surý wrote:

Just a quick reaction - I am fine with rewriting the scripts using
/etc/init.d/skeleton if it's a better fit.

Or we can simply add a custom:

do_status_override() {
 status_of_proc "$DAEMON" "$NAME" -p "$PIDFILE"
}

that would implement the missing things.

And I think I found the most obvious error -> I intended to override
do_start_cmd and do_stop_cmd instead of do_start and do_stop functions
in the init-d-script-courier, and that would fix the missing logging and
probably the error codes as well.

Does it work if you set the environment variable GTK_THEME to Adwaita?
i.e run evince from the command line as "GTK_THEME=Adwaita evince"? I
suspect that the themes shipped with MATE do not work with GTK3.

Followup-For: Bug #762909
Package: apt-show-versions
Version: 0.22.7

Dear Maintainer,

First and as always, THANK YOU for your time and dedication that helps make
Debian possible overall! Secret between you and me, apt-show-versions is
permanent Top 5 of software packages I LOVE!

Secondly, I wasn't sure whether to actually change the subject line so I didn't
because my situation is similar. This bug reproduced itself on my system.

"apt-get upgrade" shows 21 packages while "apt-show-versions -u" only shows 18
in the works of needing attention for my setup right now. These three are the
ones apt-get shows that apt-show-versions does not:

libnet-dns-perl php-text-languagedetect php-xml-svg

In case something about the following helps distinguish what's causing the
glitch, both currently acknowledge these 18 as needing upgraded:

chromium cpp cpp-5 firefox-esr g++ g++-5 gcc gcc-5 gcc-5-base libasan2
libblkid1 libgcc-5-dev libmpx0 libpulse-mainloop-glib0 libpulse0
libstdc++-5-dev php-horde-mongo tzdata

My apologies that this has been going on for several months. I just hadn't been
able to cognitively pull together the correspondence to report it. :)

For kicks while writing this up, I just upgraded apt-get's 3 singly then ran
apt-show-versions after each. Nothing changed in what apt-show-versions
reported.

That's all I can think of right now. Thank you again *so much*!
Apt-show-versions has been a PHENOMENAL TOOL with respect to having to minutely
control upgrades over dialup Internet access.

Best wishes from Talking Rock, Georgia!

Cindy (Sue) :)

Yes, that's the argument I had in mind. To extend it: most packages are
now in git so if the dh-make-perl swallows some comments the user wanted
to retain, they would be likely to see it before committing.

The control file parsing already fails to record the order of the fields
in the control file. This kind of parsing doesn't capture information
like comments. That's how it should be, so there's no ideal solution
here. I think this patch is the best we are going to get.

Thanks for the bug report and the git-am-able patch!

In general this looks good, I've applied it locally and the tests
still pass. But there's a small "but": The tests pass, because they
don't have any control files/stanzas with comments. And if I add a
comment to t/Control.t:

then this test fails, because the written control "file" differs from
the read one; unsurprisingly, since the comment is missing.

One can argue that being able to read d/control with comments is an

still, this doesn't feel totally right. -- Not sure what's the best

Unfortunately, I can't see how to fix this.

hlibrary.mk doesn't appear to do anything directly with changelogs. So
I think that something else it does is breaking CDBS's standard call to
dh_installchangelogs. But looking at

That's harsh. The hardware is almost 20 years old, and it's been running
the same Debian install for 11 years already. I don't see 4 more years
as too unlikely.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding some central check in dpkg
maybe, that detects the lack of i686 support and errors out on new,
incompatible packages. Discriminating packages could be as simple as a
by-passable check on the build/release date. But then this is a bit late
to implement in advance.

I have a 3 button trackball mouse with no scrollwheel (Logitech Trackman
Vista), and since my most recent dist-upgrade today, my second mouse
button is configured for wheel emulation (sending button 4 and 5 events
when I move the mouse while pressing button 2). In earlier xorg input
configuration systems (evdev and prior) EmulateWheel defaulted to "off".
The change of default interferes with Blender, in which holding down
mouse-2 and moving the mouse is an important action (pivoting around the
scene). The change of default makes Blender receive scrollwheel events,
which are for zooming, so makes Blender difficult to use. I was able to
get back behavior I want by editing /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf
and adding the following to the section concerning the mouse:

Option "ScrollMethod" "none"

I would propose though that the default behavior for mice without a
scrollwheel be changed back to no scrollwheel emulation.

Thank you.

Dear maintainers,

Debian::Control will fail to read source package control files if they
contain comments. This patch passes the stripComments option to

I guess you mean the "License: unknown" in the left column of
https://metacpan.org/release/Term-Animation ? That just means that
metacpan failed to automatically extract the license (probably
because it's not mentioned in META.yml or META.json).

Looking at the tarball [0], the license is clear and free in the
README [1]:

This library is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify
it under the same terms as Perl itself.

So that's, as very common for Perl modules, "License: Artistic or GPL-1+".
No need to double-check with the author :)

Attached a patch against the current svn revision that fixes this
bug. The problem is that lldb/scripts/Python/finishSwigPythonLLDB.py
does not know about the -3.8.so.1 suffix we use and cannot link to the
correct liblldb.

Regards,

Pablo

PS: What is the pkg-llvm-team policy regarding patches: is it better to
submit them through the BTS or to apply them directly on the svn ?

Bug#821639: src:zeroc-ice: PHP 7.0 Transition

2016-05-07 Thread Chris Knadle
Update: none of the zeroc-ice release tarballs (including the current 3.6.2
tarball) seem to support PHP 7 as best I can tell. The v3.7.0-alpha0 tag in
the upstream git repository does.

https://github.com/zeroc-ice/ice/tree/v3.7.0-alpha0

In the v3.7.0-alpha0 tag, php/src has separate "php5" and "php7" directories
and code to choose which of these to use during the compile based on what's
available on the system it's built with. None of the 3.6 series seems to
have this.

The package's description suggests it can still be used for alternate
"DSBL-compliant services", although it doesn't list any. The software is
available for use on your own -- whether anyone actually uses it is another
question. My guess is "no".

Hi,
please remove mnemosyne-blog. It hasn't been adopted in over four
years and the former maintainer was also the author, so it's also
dead upstream. Popcon is virtually non-existant.

Also DSBL was shutdown in 2009, so this package is totally pointless:

Hello Mirko,

That definitely shouldn't happen!

Were python-setuptools and python-cffi not installed at all, or were
they installed at the wrong version?

What did you do to install letsencrypt?

Bug#823706: Lazarus 1.6 source files are missing

2016-05-07 Thread Denis Kozlov

Package: lazarus-1.6
Version: 1.6+dfsg-2
Severity: important

Many Lazarus 1.6 source files are missing from the package.

This creates two major problems:
1) IDE cannot be rebuilt - which is required to install or remove
components.
2) Many bundled components cannot be installed due to randomly missing
files.

For example, taking a look at the "anchordocking" component structure:
/usr/lib/lazarus/1.6/components/anchordocking/

There are two files missing which render this component useless:
/anchordocking.lpk
/design/anchordockingdsgn.lpk

There are many other files and whole directories missing from the package.

Bug#823704: libcec3v4: makes kodi crash

2016-05-07 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: libcec3v4
Version: 3.1.0+dfsg1-4~bpo8+2
Severity: important

Hi,

Since the upgrade of libcec3v4 to 3.1.0, kodi started crashing on me.
I'm using kodi from backports on a Jessie system, with libcec3v4 from
backports, too.

The kodi crashlog contains the following:

Thread 1 (Thread 0x7f5b7bf7b700 (LWP 25654)):
#0 0x7f5bb1d7a067 in __GI_raise (sig=sig@entry=6) at

Downgrading libcec3v4 from 3.1.0+dfsg1-4~bpo8+2 to 3.0.1+dfsg2-9~bpo8+1
(from snapshots) fixed the issue. In contrast, downgrading to
3.1.0+dfsg1-4~bpo8+1 did not.

Since there's a new upstream version involved, my guess is that an
inadvertent ABI change was made.

Already working on the update, but I need time with it. A week, maybe
more. :( The new version contains new binary packages while removed

Cool! If you have already done this, there are no _technical_ reasons
against inclusion -- on a "slow scroll"-level review, the code seems sound.
People may complain against archive bloat but this package compares
favourably to, eg, nyancat (2×arch:all vs 2×arch:any).

2016-05-07 Thread Eriberto
control: tags 822990 moreinfo

Hi Daniel,

I will try help you.

1. d/control:

- You used 'extra' as Priority. Is there any special condition to use
it instead of 'optional'? Please, read it[1].

[1] https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-priorities

- (OPTIONAL) Your long description for hash-cat don't have some
keywords, as SHA256. So, several users won't find your package via
apt-cache search command. There is a long list about resources to be
cracked by hashcat in its homepage. I suggest to improve the
description.

- Please, can you add a period in the last line of the file? (long
description for hashcat-data)

2. d/hashcat-data.docs: IMO, the files docs/user_manuals.txt and
README.md should be put in d/hashcat.docs.

3. d/hashcat-dirs: this file is empty. Can you remove it?

4. d/watch: please, remove the useless lines.

5. After the build, I can see that hashcat-xop is not necessary in d/clean.

Regards,

Eriberto

Yes, I've heard about dh-make-perl. It's very good!
In fact, I've built those packages already:

Yeah, that's a big issue. Perhaps I could try contacting the author?

One problem: it depends on Term::Animation, which isn't packaged in Debian
yet. I heard that our Perl team have a tool to do the entirety of packaging
of CPAN modules with a single command, but I don't know the details. And,
this looks like an issue: "License: unknown".

That's pretty much correct, yes.

NACK in this context implies that whatever you proposed was carefully
considered by the person "NACK'ing" it, and then rejected. An explanation
for the rejection should be provided along with the "NACK".

It is very common lingo on Linux-releated FLOSS development mailing lists,
when rejecting a changes proposal (patch), etc.

Bug#823698: iio-sensor-procy is started too early

2016-05-07 Thread Michael Meskes
Package: iio-sensor-proxy
Version: 1.1-1
Severity: normal

To quote a kernel developer:

---
Finally I have Yoga 900. I see the sensors are working and rotation is
working with iio_sensor_proxy. But some of you suggested, rotation only works
after suspend and then resume. The reason is that the iio-sensor-proxy starts
too early as systemctl service. By that time IIO subsystem is not ready.

So you need to add to iio-sensor-proxy.service:

After=multi-user.target
---

Actually I also added

[Install]
WantedBy=default.target

to make sure it is started correctly. This seems (only one test so far) to fix
the rotation issue of a Yoga 900.

Bug#772628: Similar issue

2016-05-07 Thread Stijn Segers
I have been bitten by this too; I run Debian on a Beaglebone Black with 2 GB
eMMC storage; it would be really near if I could save some space by using
compressed modules.

In light of all the ARM and other non-x86 devices Debian supports nowadays this
is a valid issue. Since implementing support is pretty trivial I don't see why
this is being ignored.

Thanks for making this happen!

Bug#823694: gramps: citation confidence level per reference

2016-05-07 Thread IOhannes m zmoelnig
Package: gramps
Version: 4.2.3~dfsg-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

this is another feature request for upstream, but since i don't want to
register with their bugtracker i report it here.
please forward this wishlist.

   * What led up to the situation?

gramps allows me to set a confidence level for a given source-citation.
this is a great feature.

however, it misses the point that many (most?) sources provide information on
multiple different things at the same time.
in practice the confidence level of a source varies greatly among those items.

consider a death-certificate issued in december 1834, that states that Foo Bar
died on 1834-12-12 and that they were 80 years old.
Now i have a high trust that this certificate got the death date correct.
however, i am way less confident that they got the age right (the certificate
doesn't state anything about how they obtained that information).

this is even more prominent when doing interviews with living persons: they
often remember details of their own life and their close family pretty well, but
they also know a little about distant relatives (but things get fuzzy).

anyhow, the point i'm trying to make is that i think the confidence-level should
be attached to the relation between event/... and citation, rather than solely
to the citation itself.

thanks for considering.

Bug#823692: gramps: shortcut to last used citation

2016-05-07 Thread IOhannes m zmoelnig
Package: gramps
Version: 4.2.3~dfsg-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

this is really a feature request for upstream, but since i don't want to
register with their bugtracker i report it here.
please forward this wishlist.

   * What led up to the situation?

often i find myself adding a bunch of new information that are connected
"somehow", usually because i just got access to a new "Source".
e.g. i just got the birth-certificate of Foo Bar, and this certificate contains
information about Foo's parents and grand-parents and their whereabouts. so i
find myself adding (resp. updating) information about 7 persons and up to 5
events, all based on this single document.

for each of these updates i would like to add a proper "citation" reference to
cross-link to that birth-certificate.
now the trouble i'm facing is that for each of these updates i have to navigate
my list of hundreds of sources/citations and find the same reference again and
again.

the various "search" functions are not that helpful, as they require me to
rapidly shift between keyboard and mouse.
esp. with source/citations and the tree-view this is really tiresome, as i find
myself opening/closing the same items repeatedly.

what i'd really love to have instead was a quick "last N citations used"
(probably with N<=5 or so) right under my mouse, so i can easily re-select that
citation without having to search for it first.

i guess this could be generalized to *any* reference (making a consistent
interface: usability++).

thanks for your consideration.

Bug#823691: shorewall6: unowned files after purge (policy 6.8, 10.8): /var/lib/systemd/deb-systemd-helper-enabled/shorewall.service.dsh-also

2016-05-07 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: shorewall6
Version: 5.0.7.2-1
Severity: important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package left unowned files on
the system after purge, which is a violation of policy 6.8 (or 10.8):

https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-removedetails

Filing this as important as having a piuparts clean archive is a release
goal since lenny.

>From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

This looks like a bug in the usage of deb-systemd-helper by your package
otherwise this file should have been cleaned up by deb-systemd-helper.

No, I can't reproduce the problem. I can reproduce a similar problem
where all GTK3 apps ignore Xfce's reverse scroll setting, but I can't
reproduce a problem where only Evince ignores the setting and all other
GTK3 apps work correctly.

Actually, no. Apologies for not noticing it before, but the version
number is broken - it should either be 1.15-3+deb8u1 or
1.15-3.1~deb8u1.
1.15-3.1+deb8u1 fails, as it is greater than the version of the
package

in unstable.

Ok. Uploaded again as 1.15-3.1~deb8u1.

Thanks; flagged for accept / reject, as appropriate.

Package: gnukhata-core-engine
Version: 2.6.1-3
Severity: important

Hi,

the maintainer scripts of your package don't properly integrate with
dbconfig-common. Only the postinst uses dbconfig-common, but
prerm/postrm are lacking the equivalent parts. Therefore it is not
possible to remove the database when the package gets purged.

See e.g. /usr/share/doc/dbconfig-common/examples/db-test-pgsql-2.0 for
a dbconfig-common package example.

Also debian/gnukhata-core-engine.postrm is an incorrect stub, missing
the hashbang and set -e.

If it was not just Evince, but all GTK3 apps having this problem, I
would say that it's a known problem that Xfce's reverse scrolling option
does not work with GTK3 apps. That's what I see when I try it in a VM;
Xfce's reverse scrolling works with things like Thunar file manager and
Firefox, but does not work with GTK3 apps like Evince and gedit. There
are various bug reports and workarounds for it, ex:

https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11193
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1368402
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674716#c13

But if it's just Evince having this problem, I don't know how to help.
I can't reproduce it on my side and I don't know of any reason for
Evince to behave differently from any other GTK3 app.

I finally figured this out. Debian is apparently using a
multi-segmented initramfs, which means there is an uncompressed cpio
followed by a compressed cpio file.

http://winfred-lu.blogspot.com/2015/04/modify-initial-ramfs-initramfs-archive.html

> OK, that's weird. The cpio is normally compressed and contains a lot

I'm not sure why you're not seeing this, but it looks like lsinitramfs
will actually show the both parts of the initramfs (although
apparently the man page is wrong and it claims that it doesn't DTRT
when in fact it does)

Anyway, I hadn't been paying attention to how the boot sequence had
been moved around. (Ever since the systemd introduction I've given up
trying to understand how the boot process works, and just hoped like
mad that things would never break and forced me to understand debug
the New World Order. Fortunately, while there are no longer any user
serviceable parts inside, I haven't need to pry inside the system,
either.)

I'll add the call to update initramfs in postinst.

Thanks,

- Ted

Altivec detection on 32-bit powerpc would also be useful, assuming 32-bit
powerpc has a future in Debian at all. ioquake3:powerpc would depend on it.

(If anyone reading this has a non-Altivec PowerPC capable of running a
1999 game engine and thinks ioquake3 needs to support it, there's a request
for testing on #701561.)

Yes, it's a 2.2 regression which I bisected down to this commit:

It apparently fixes another bug so I can't simply revert it, but I asked
Nicholas if he remembers the details. Stay tuned.
