I thought that firmware had a separate prompting mechanism, triggered by
the detection of missing firmware? If the installer notices missing
firmware, it prompts for separate firmware media.

Bug#851305: onboard doesn't show any information in mate-session-properties

Hi shirish,

Hi Mike,

Please take some time and propose a patch please. Thanks!

I am no coder but I am open to doing that but need to know how to go
about doing that ?

I tried few things -

a. git clone https://anonscm.debian.org/git/pkg-mate/onboard.git

It gave me all debian-specific bits but nothing about onboard itself.

b. apt-get source onboard

I was able to get onboard-1.3.0 onboard_1.3.0-1.debian.tar.xz
onboard_1.3.0-1.dsc onboard_1.3.0.orig.tar.gz

and was able to see where onboard-autostart.desktop is -

┌─[shirish@debian] - [~/onboard-debian/onboard-1.3.0/data] - [10148]
└─[$] ls

layoutstrings.py onboard.desktop.in
org.onboard.gschema.xml

onboard-autostart.desktop onboard-settings.desktop.in
org.onboard.Onboard.service

I have no idea whether it's just a case of simply flipping from
NoDisplay=true to NoDisplay=false in onboard-autostart.desktop or
would need more.

I did check https://github.com/mate-desktop to see if there was a
separate onboard repository mirroed there but there isn't/wasn't.

The only commands I know are -

git clone $something
cd $something
leafpad $something/$somefile
git commit $somefile
git format-patch -1

But have no idea how do I proceed further.

Any ideas anybody ?

Mike

The problem is that onboard-autostart.desktop (in /etc/xdg/autostart)
does not have a (i18ned) Comment= key. The lack of it needs to be
reported to onboard upstream.

Neither does /usr/share/applications/onboard.desktop have a Comment=
field. This should also be added.

Please do the following things:

  o report the bug upstream
o link this Debian bug to the upstream bug once it has been reported

Then we wait for the next upstream release and cherry-pick the
.desktop files and try to upload for Debian 9.

Onboard upstream is here:
https://launchpad.net/onboard

For reporting bugs on Launchpad, you need need an account there IIRC.

Greets,
Mike

Sounds good enough.

One could argue that only the battery with the highest level should
be checked, but this might assume certain features in the hardware
that can't be guaranteed, so above will be safe.

If you change something here, I will no longer be able to easily
test it, because I no longer have an external battery for my laptop.

petsc 3.7.4+dfsg1-9 is now migrated to testing (fixing RC bug #850599
in stretch). That clears the way for updating petsc to 3.7.5 for the
stretch release.

I'll upload petsc 3.7.5+dfsg1-2 to unstable in the coming 24 hours once
the migration of 3.7.4+dfsg1-9 to testing has been pushed to servers.

Bug#851553: unblock: jabberd2/2.4.0-3

2017-01-15 Thread Simon Josefsson
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please consider unblocking jabberd2.

It fell out of testing in November due to an OpenSSL 1.1
incompatibility which caused a FTBFS. The package in unstable that was
uploaded late December changed Build-Depends to resolve that bug, and
also fixed the default-libmysqlclient-dev concern. The bug report
and entire patch that was applied is found here:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=828360#33

The changelog entry is:

jabberd2 (2.4.0-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Build-Depends on default-libmysqlclient-dev. Closes: #845857.
  * Build-Depends on libssl1.0-dev|libssl-dev until
jabberd2 builds with OpenSSL 1.1. Closes: #828360.

Below is a debdiff output between 2.4.0-2 (that was in testing) and
2.4.0-3 (which is in unstable since late December).

Bug#851551: FutureWarning: CTR mode needs counter parameter, not IV

2017-01-15 Thread Antonis Christofides
Package: duplicity
Version: 0.6.24-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I'm not certain this problem is in duplicity or in python-crypto. Since
yesterday's update to Debian 8.7, all my servers (including the one from which
I'm reporting this) throw this message when running duplicity with -v2:

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/Crypto/Cipher/blockalgo.py:141: FutureWarning:
CTR mode needs counter parameter, not IV
  self._cipher = factory.new(key, *args, **kwargs)

I use public key encryption with --encrypt-key=.

I have this python-crypto:

ii python-crypto 2.6.1-5+deb8

This is more than a mere annoyance. If I receive emails every day I will stop
reading them, so I will miss important messages. This is clearly not an option.
Otherwise I might increase verbosity to error, in which case I'm worried about
missing any important warning messages. So if there is any other idea for a
workaround I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Thank you for your suggestion! However, I thought this as well and I tried
it,
but this did not work for me. Here is my /etc/pam.d/systemd-user:

---
# This file is part of systemd.
#
# Used by systemd --user instances.

auth optional pam_group.so

@include common-account

session required pam_selinux.so close
session required pam_selinux.so nottys open
session required pam_loginuid.so
session required pam_limits.so
@include common-session-noninteractive
session optional pam_systemd.so
---

Using "auth" here because pam_group(8) says "Only the auth module type is
provided".
Probably this service does not do any authentication, though?

Yes, this is possible and easy (we already have the plot plugin
installed for an eventual graphin of something, even if I believe
storing the .html files of the report is already a good start).

Something similar is needed anyway. Remember that currently what
jenkins is building is the debian package; I think need to tweak the
packaging to copy the coverage files to WORKSPACE (or where were the
artifacts placed…?).

The file itself was not buggy. The combination of that file+SysVinit
was a working environment. The combination of that file+systemd was
an unstable environment.

It wouldn't be fair to expect systemd to know about every individual
case like this.

However, if systemd does know that a udev rule exists for a particular
device, whether it is this file or any other file that somebody has
created by hand, wouldn't it be reasonable to delay that mount?

I tested running "btrfs device scan" at the command line and the
command appears to complete synchronously. If the command had started
a background operation then it would be harder for systemd to know the
device was not ready to mount.

Daniel

Bug#851550: imagemagick: cache resources exhausted while trying to crop big tiff, -limit option does not fix it

2017-01-15 Thread Luc Deschenaux
Package: imagemagick
Version: 8:6.9.7.0+dfsg-2
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Trying to crop a large tiff with:
 wget
http://goes.gsfc.nasa.gov/goeseast/fulldisk/fullres/vis/1701061445G13I01.tif -O
input.tif && convert -crop 3120x1920+7757+7017 input.tif out.png

   For example this tiff is:
 $ identify 1701061445G13I01.tif
 1701061445G13I01.tif TIFF 14400x12001 14400x12001+0+0 8-bit
 Grayscale Gray 63.38MB 0.000u 0:00.000

If the mentionned tif is not available anymore try another big one in
   the same directory.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
 - I tried to raise limits with "-limit [ Disk File Map Memory ]
 [ unlimited 0 10G 10GB 10GiB ]"
 - I added sid sources in apt source.list.d and to replaced the
"stretch" version 8:6.9.6 with the "unstable" one

   * What was the outcome of this action?
 Convert still exit with:
   convert-im6.q16: DistributedPixelCache '127.0.0.1' @
   error/distribute-cache.c/ConnectPixelCacheServer/244.
   convert-im6.q16: cache resources exhausted
   `/home/guest/.x3arth/goeseast/fulldisk/fullres/vis/1701061445G13I01.tif'
   @ error/cache.c/OpenPixelCache/3945.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

We can upload it to experimental right now and reupload to
unstable after stretch release. Once it migrates to next testing
(buster), we can upload it to stretch-backports.

The bug is ttbomk in binutils, which creates a broken libsystemd0 on
mips*. Merging with existing bug report.
It's currently assigned to systemd but will eventually be re-assigned to
binutils once we have confirmation from the mips porters.

Bug#850648: Missing source of manual-031.pdf

Hi Andreas,

A new upstream version was just released which includes the manual source!

(Ironically, they decided to add another manual for an old Mathematica

I've packaged this latest version and it has been pushed git for review.

It'll take time to dig up examples from my backups, so I'll need to
defer concrete examples until something like mid February. It might
be stuff like my failure to identify a package that is following DEP-5
vs SPDX, but because of comments like "worst than useless" I figured
there must have been some rule I didn't understand...because that's
way too strong of a reaction for something that is a question of
style. :-) At this point, however, I don't think further discussion
fits into this thread, because it is too tangential to muse-el.

By the way, is one space indentation for copyright definition blocks
what should now be used (commit
5ba94789a7f35d5938d88226c6ea35fd98635a5b)? I noticed the packaging
guide's example uses one space, but most of the copyright-format/1.0
packages I've looked at use four. Just a convention?

Ah, from packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0 "Not all copyright
notices may apply to every individual file, and years of publication
for one copyright holder may be gathered together" [1]. So short form
rules I misunderstood are:

* Wildcards are hungry globs.
* Lists of files are white-space, tab, or newline separated strings.
* Years may be specified as either a comma-separated list of discrete
  years, or a year-to-year range.
* Refer to individual files or VCS for specific dates when multiple
  files are grouped, because [1].

I also wonder how many contributors there must be to justify a
"Primary copyright holder, and others" statement, and also if one
needs to do VCS archaeology to find and list all of the potential
one-off contributors.

Done, finally! :-D

Nicholas

Bug#851547: gnome-shell: under Wayland, alt-tab switcher fails when using focus-follow-mouse

2017-01-15 Thread Sean Whitton
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.22.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear maintainers,

Bug #648841 reoccurs when running GNOME under Wayland. The problem does
not appear under X11.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set window focus mode to 'mouse' or 'sloppy' (e.g. under "Windows" in
   gnome-tweak-tool)
2. Focus window X, and place mouse cursor within borders of window X
3. Use alt-tab to switch to window Y.

Expected result: Focus is switched to window Y.

Actual result: Focus switches to window Y momentarily, before returning to X.

thanks a lot for your work on this.

For the Debian packaging[1] I imported the new version and tried to
adapt the patches[2] (BTW, I have no idea whether any previous
maintainer of the package pointed to it but some of these might be
interesting to integrate into the upstream code).

Since I learned from Perl team (in CC) that I can exclude tests via

   debian/tests/pkg-perl/smoke-skip

I tried to use this feature. Unfortunately this does not work as
expected - at least in the build process. Could anybody with better
Perl skills than me please have a look at the failed build time tests?

Thanks to all who provided help so far to finally fix gbrowse for the
next Debian stable release

 Andreas.

Turns out removing the "firmware" section doesn't change the failure for a
Raspbian build, so... no idea. Building a Raspbian live image used to work
under 1:20151215, now it doesn't, and I can't narrow it down.

I will try again and see if removing the firmware section makes a

Hi,

I believe this is possible with a Jenkins plugin that will annotate
the files and even graph stuff over time.

One alternative and/or temporary hack would be to *not* delete the
coverage files if we see the JENKINS_URL environment variable.

As Scott is not "officially" speaking from the FTP team but just as a
DD, I'll chime in here.

I think the package name should indicate the field for which it is
meant (freebayes-genetic-variance), but I don't think the program name
should deviate from upstream; we have had issues such as when node.js
was introduced (that 'node' was a name already taken by another
program), but I don't think 'freebayes' will be such a contentious
program name.

Bug#851405: [moodle-packaging] Bug#851405: CVE-2016-9186 CVE-2016-9187 CVE-2016-9188

2017-01-15 Thread Marina Glancy
Hello Salvatore,
apologies for not replying earlier, I was away on holidays.

I was told by the CVE team that I have to use the online form to update
information about the issues. On 10 November 2016 I have sent a request to
update an existing CVE for the CVE-2016-9186. I have received an automated
reply "CVE Request 260788 for Update Published CVE". I don't see any
changes on the page
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2016-9186 following my
request to update though. I was not aware of 9187 and 9188, I can request
update again but now I'm not even sure this form works.

I also use this form to notify about publishing CVE. For example, the last
issue I notified about was CVE-2016-8644 on the 21 November 2016 (
https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=343277 ) but the page
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2016-8644 still does not
display any information about the issue.

Please advise me what is the correct way to update information on CVEs
and/or notify about the publishing. Below is the email that I have received
from c...@mitre.org in the end of October in reply to my request to update
information about CVE 2016-7919.

Bug#851524: Building armhf image fwith qemu fails at bootstrapping stage if firmware section enabled

2017-01-15 Thread Michael .
If you are building a Raspbian image your initial config should work, if
you are not building a Raspbian image it won't work and will fail simply
because it is unable to find something you are telling it to look for.

Bug#851524: Building armhf image fwith qemu fails at bootstrapping stage if firmware section enabled

2017-01-15 Thread Jason Heeris
Here's a command to try building from a Raspbian image.

env
DEBOOTSTRAP_OPTIONS="--keyring=/usr/share/keyrings/raspbian-archive-keyring.gpg"
lb config \
--archive-areas 'main firmware non-free' \
--distribution jessie \
--chroot-filesystem squashfs \
--architectures armhf \
--bootstrap-qemu-arch armhf \
--bootstrap-qemu-static /usr/bin/qemu-arm-static \
--parent-mirror-bootstrap http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--parent-mirror-chroot http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--parent-mirror-chroot-security http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--parent-mirror-binary http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--parent-mirror-binary-security http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--mirror-bootstrap http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--mirror-chroot http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--mirror-chroot-security http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--mirror-binary http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--mirror-binary-security http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian \
--mirror-debian-installer http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian

sudo
DEBOOTSTRAP_OPTIONS="--keyring=/usr/share/keyrings/raspbian-archive-keyring.gpg"
lb build 2>&1 | tee build.log

Note that you need the raspbian-archive-keyring package[1]. Alternatively,
I think there's a different debootstrap option that just ignores the
signatures altogether.

Again, no hard feelings if you deem this out of scope, but... maybe it
suggests there's a bug in the bootstrapping phase? Because the repos in the
chroot seem to not be respecting what I've configured:

$ grep -isr "deb\.debian\.org"
build.log:I: Keyring file not available at
/usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg; switching to https mirror
https://deb.debian.org/debian
chroot/debootstrap/debootstrap:DEF_MIRROR="http://deb.debian.org/debian";
chroot/debootstrap/debootstrap:DEF_HTTPS_MIRROR="
https://deb.debian.org/debian";

(Note that /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg most certainly
exists on the host, but maybe it's talking about the chroot.)

I've also noticed that in my "real" project, the bootstrap phase seems to
bypass my apt-cacher-ng instance (which is specified as a localhost:3142
URL in those same options). Am I missing some option for making the
bootstrapping phase aware of the different repositories?

Bug#851544: chromium: cannot make chromium my default browser

2017-01-15 Thread y
Package: chromium
Version: 55.0.2883.75-1~deb8u1
Severity: normal
Tags: d-i

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

It keeps saying "chromium isn't your default browser",
each time I starts it up, though I have set it to
default more than once.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

1. I tried the command "update-alternatives", and had already set
chromium to be my default browser:
qxu@debian:~$ sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser
[sudo] password for qxu:
There are 2 choices for the alternative x-www-browser (providing
/usr/bin/x-www-browser).

  SelectionPath Priority Status

  0/usr/bin/firefox-esr 70auto mode
* 1/usr/bin/chromium  40manual mode
  2/usr/bin/firefox-esr 70manual mode

Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number:
qxu@debian:~$

2. I tried "System Settings" -> "Preferred Applications", and set the default
web browser to chromium over there.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

When I restarted chromium again, it still told me that chromium is not
my default browser, and if I want to set it to the default browser.

I clicked the button to make it the default browser, but it kept saying
it is not my default browser the next time it is started.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

By right, any one of the methods (update-alternatives, System Setting ->
Preferred Applications, or the prompt in the chromium itself) should have
worked.

I think it'd be best to compare against the average of the load

Is there any reason an 'e' is missing from the end of this package name?

Would be good if you can provide a verbose debug log from the shutdown:

/usr/share/doc/systemd/README.Debian.gz → check how to generate a
shutdown-log.txt

That log should help answer the above questions.

Well, konqueror is part of kde-baseapps. One could imagine not shipping the
binary and maybe some desktop files, but that source package also provides
konqueror-related libs, and removing them will definitely be hard. And I don't
know for sure if those bugs are really related to the front end konqueror is
or the libs themselves.

As far as I understand konqueror is not supported by Debian's security team
since ages, and we have always been recommending it for local/safe stuff.

Moreover, on the same grounds, I personally tried to remove Qt4's webkit:

  https://wiki.debian.org/Qt4WebKitRemoval

but when I asked the security team they simply say something along "we don't
support it, we don't care" which is fairly understandable.

So, all in all, I don't think it will be easy and before getting konqueror out
I'll prefer removing Qt4' webkit.

But then again, I should not be considerer an authoritative voice here. Maxy
should probably know much better than I.

Bug#851541: www.debian.org: CD/verify should include long key IDs

2017-01-15 Thread Stuart Prescott
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: normal

Having just talked a user through the gpg verification steps for the CDs,
I've got a few suggestions for the web page with the instructions on how
to verify the CD contents:

1/ long key IDs:
it would be good to include the long key id rather than the short key id. The
long key id is present in the fingerprint but not in a form that can be
copy/pasted into gpg --recv-keys for those not already on Debian systems. The
necessary gpg options are

  --keyid-format long --with-fingerprint

2/ sort the keys:
Putting the keys that are most needed at the top would be great. Something
like:

  # current stable release CD key, current testing CD key, historical CD key
  for keyid in DA87E80D6294BE9B 42468F4009EA8AC3 988021A964E6EA7D; do
  gpg --list-keys --keyring /usr/share/keyrings/debian-role-keys.gpg \
--keyid-format long --with-fingerprint $keyid
  done

Even better would be explanatory text in between each key describing *how*
it was used so that users know which one they are supposed to be importing
from the keyservers if they have to do that. The current text gives the
impression of "here are some random keys that we might once have used";
while the text is accurate, it doesn't really instill confidence or help
the user with concrete next steps.

3/ concerete examples
Everyone knows how 'fun' the gpg CLI is to work with. A couple of concrete
examples of how to verify the download using the debian-keyring and the key
servers would be good. Something like:

  1. Download the ISO image as well as the files SHA256SUM and SHA256SUM.sign
files that are in the same directory.

  2. On a Debian system, you can use your existing trust in the Debian Archive
signing keys (in apt) to obtain the keys.

 # apt install debian-keyring
 $ sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
 $ gpg --keyring /usr/share/keyrings/debian-role-keys.gpg --verify
SHA256SUMS.sign

On non-Debian systems, you can first import the relevant key from the
 keyservers.

 $ gpg --recv-keys DA87E80D6294BE9B
 $ sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
 $ gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.sign

In both cases, gpg should show that this was a "Good signature" but gpg
will also warn you that your keys do not have an explicit trust path
to this signing key; this warning is normal and can be ignored since
you have established a trust path to the key outside gpg that gpg doesn't
know about (your trust is either via the debian-keyring package or thanks
to manually checking the fingerprint of the key that is used against this
 web page).

(Maybe these are already on the wiki somewhere... fragmenting the
  documentation across www.d.o and wiki.d.o doesn't help and there'salso
no link to this informaiton; the use of the debian-keyring package might
also be a problem since it doesn't tend to receive stable updates -- maybe
  it should?)

4/ where are the sums?
Users consistently fail to find the SHA256SUM and SHA256SUM.sign files. The
verify page could be more explicit about where to find the files.¹ (I've
tried to be more explicit in the text above, not sure if that's enough.)

cheers
Stuart

[1] the download pages have long vexed the www team and I have no great
ideas how to actually make this better and further discussion lives in
separate bugs. What we've seen is that if users actually use the download
pages on www.debian.org then there are no links to the *SUM files anywhere and
users must copy+paste URLs and then edit them. I'm loathe to suggest more
links be added to the download pages though.

This is a deliberate change, yes. It makes the firmware netinsts more

Hi,

The bug in the memory adaptor that Scott found turns out to have been from
using the old perl 1.6.9 installed by the Debian package. Updating to 1.7.1
(1.007001) fixes the problem.

I have merged all GBrowse changes into git version 2.56 and have made a CPAN
release. I think you can go ahead and package it.

need to cut 10 days from this since a package has a 10 day migration
time until it makes it from unstable to the release candidates in
testing. So this would make 2017-01-25 - but if there is a single (even
unrelated to gbrowse) issue that might prevent the migration gbrowse is
doomed. So I'd recommend to get something out until beginning of next
week.

Kind regards

Bug#851539: Stretch RC1 netinst installer prompts for additional CDs

2017-01-15 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

I tried doing an install with a Stretch RC1 netinst CD. Worked fine,
except that later in the install, right before asking about an apt
mirror, the installer asked about scaning additional CDs. Previous
versions of the netinst installer haven't asked that question; normally
only the full-CD installers ask that.

Indeed, nice catch! The following two I think were part of a botched
patch split during a rebase. But there are several other I had missed
and for which the tools I've used did not complain. In any case, I've
now switching all of them, I think. Updated patch attached.

Bug#851524: Building armhf image fwith qemu fails at bootstrapping stage if firmware section enabled

Hmm. It was left over from my original project which was a Raspbian live
build, which suddenly started failing in the same way. I tried to reduce it
to a shorter example, not realising that 'firmware' was a valid area for
Raspbian but not Debian. So that explains my example.

Unfortunately I do need the 'firmware' area for the Raspbian project, and
while using it used to work (with the Raspbian repositories) under 1:20151215,
it seems to produce this error under 1:20161216. I can't expect you to help
with Raspbian issues, but if you have any ideas I'd welcome them. Otherwise
I guess this is invalid.

That would be weird. This is an end-to-end test that starts an instance
of the server and connects through localhost.

That link does not work for me, but from the logs I find in that site,
the failures were unrelated, and the latest attempt to build succeeded:

https://buildd.raspbian.org/status/logs.php?pkg=prometheus-alertmanager&arch=armhf

Hi,

I just installed the updated systemd-shim from experimental, removed the
hold on systemd packages to update them to their latest version from
sid, and I can confirm that now everything works as expected (shutdown
entries in lightdm, polkit auth agent, and obsession menu logout entries).

Michael, Ian, thank you very much to both of you.

There are actually several schools of thought about that :-). One of
them says that when the reason for the bug changes, we need another
bug report. I do not always agree with that [*], so if it's ok for you
to recycle this bug (because of the observed effect), it's also ok for
me.

[*] For example, for bugs of type "FTBFS with dpkg-buildpackage -A",
I usually reopen when the package still FTBFS with dpkg-buildpackage -A
after an incomplete fix, because at least in this case I was reporting
the "end effect" and not the cause.

Thanks.

Bug#851537: Please support preseeding an empty domain to prevent prompting

netcfg supports preseeding the domain via netcfg/get_domain, but
providing an empty values results in the installer still prompting.
Please consider providing a way to preseed an empty domain name, to
completely suppress the prompt for one.

Bug#851538: RM: snap-confine -- ROM; has been merged into snapd

2017-01-15 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi masters,

The snap-confine source package has been merged upstream into the snapd
package, which now produces all the binaries that snap-confine used to
produce. snap-confine built on more architectures than snapd, which is why
snap-confine is not on the cruft report, but it's useless without snapd.

Bug#851499: cups-filters-core-drivers: Everywhere PPD content depends on queue creation method

2017-01-15 Thread Till Kamppeter

Fixed in cups-filters upstream, BZR rev. 7599.

Thank you for the bug report.

"lpadmin -m everywhere" uses the PPD generator in the CUPS library. The
generator has no public API and so it cannot be used by other programs
using the CUPS library.

Therefore I have copied the PPD generator from CUPS and put it into the
libcupsfilters library, WITH public API, and keep it in sync with the
original by overtaking any changes.

This version of the PPD generator is used

- When cups-browsed creates a local print queue and generates a queue
  for it (IPP network printers).

- When a queue is set up with a printer setup tool like system-config-
printer or localhost:631. In this case the "driverless" utility of
cups-filters is used to generate the PPD file.

The two PPD generators are not absolutely equal because I have added
some features:

- The original PPD generator only supports PWG Raster, Apple Raster,
PDF, and JPEG as printer PDL, my generator also accepts (with lower
priority) PostScript, PCL-XL, and PCL 5c/e, for legacy printers.

- The original PPD generator requires all printer capability, option,
and choice information from the printer attributes IPP request, my
generator can in some cases fall back to info from the Bonjour record
or even hard-coded default values. This adds support for some legacy
  printers.

The difference in the generation of *cupsFilter2 lines in the PPD
generator is due to the support for the additional legacy PDLs. I had
overlooked JPEG that time. Now I have added the JPEG support the same
form as CUPS does. If input is JPEG and the printer understands JPEG,
the JPEG input gets passed through without filtering.

As JPEG supports only one-page documents (pictures) and most common PDLs
are multi-page (needed for typical print jobs), there should never be a
filter rule turning PDF (or any other multi-page language) into JPEG.

Bug#850094: Please do not remove packages which FTBFS randomly yet

I've checked and it seems there is only one package affected by this.

Could you please reallow "src:uncertainties" in stretch?

I downgraded #844571 to important in the mass-downgrading
but forgot to downgrade #844572 as well (which I have just done).

As a result, the package was autoremoved.

If the plan is to consider RC-ness based on probability of failure,
this package has a lot more reason to stay in stretch than some
packages which FTBFS a lot more often.

Thanks.

Bug#445286: readline frontend for debconf and previous values

2017-01-15 Thread GSR
Hi:

Already possible to have the previous values typed in. See reports
635032 & 537870. Install libterm-readline-gnu-perl to make the values
appear ready to be edited.

So what probably should do is include the values in prompt text when
the package is not installed. Then allow pressing enter to accept, and
only edits would require retyping.

Cheers,

Bug#844572: uncertainties: FTBFS randomly (FAIL: Full comparison to a Monte-Carlo calculation)

2017-01-15 Thread Santiago Vila
severity 844572 important
thanks

Hello.

I'm setting the severity of this bug to "important" not because
I don't think it is not RC (as Release Policy still says that
packages must autobuild *without* failure), but because the
Release Managers are considering to decide about RC-ness
of this kind of bugs based on the probability of failure.

We don't know what kind of threshold there will be for stretch, so I
strongly recommend that you act as if this bug was serious and RC,
especially if the failures happen very often on any kind of
autobuilder which is not misconfigured.

Unfortunately this package was already autoremoved because of this bug.

This is probably not ok if we consider that other packages which FTBFS
a lot more often are still in stretch. I'm going to ask Release
Managers if it's possible to reallow this in stretch.

Thanks.

From what I've read, ipv6.disable=1 hasn't been sufficient for quite
some time, and one requires something like the following in
/etc/sysctl.d/:

00-disable-ipv6.conf:
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1
