Bug#886263: gtk3-nocsd does not work for python programs

2018-01-03 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: gtk3-nocsd
Version: 3-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
gtk3-nocsd seems not to work for python programs like gajim (1.x). Probably
the preloaded lib is not used for the interpreter / the gtk lib loaded
by python or similar.
Is there a possible fix or workaround?

with kind regards,
Alex

Bug#877633: Acknowledgement (monit openssh-server config depends on a key which is not required to be there)

2017-10-03 Thread Alexander Schier
It gets even worse: With the failing dependency, monit stops the sshd
until you log in manually and remove the config (or create the key).
I think the hard dependencies are quite dangerous there.

Bug#877633: monit openssh-server config depends on a key which is not required to be there

2017-10-03 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: monit
Version: monit openssh-server config depends on a key which is not required to
be there
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
the monit openssh-server config includes a dependency for sshd on

check file sshd_dsa_key with path /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key
  group sshd
  include /etc/monit/templates/rootstrict

a fresh install from the debian stretch netinst medium creates keys for
rsa, ecdsa and ed25519, but no dsa keys. I am not sure but this may be
a security choice. Anyway, the monit check does not check sshd because
the key is missing and does not work in a default installation here
without removing the dependency.

Bug#870093: plasma-desktop: plasma launchers log all stdout and stderr into .xsession-errors

2017-07-29 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:5.8.7.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
KDE plasma writes all stdout/stderr from programs launched in the
plasmashell into .xsession-errors. This does not only create a huge
logfile depending on the program, but is also a privacy risk for example
when some browser extensions write debug output on the console
containing urls or other sensitive information.
I filed an upstream bug here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382351
possibly debian could implement some workaround until the problem is
handled in upstream.

with kind regards,
Alexander Schier

Bug#868456: monit isn't reloaded when program binaries are updated

2017-07-15 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: monit
Version: 5.20.0-3~bpo8+1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
monit in debian comes with a few default files for binaries, like nginx.
When I apt-get upgrade and nginx gets updated, monit is not reloaded and
reports a checksum failure on the nginx binary:
checksum failed, expected 99c93c385d93dd4b22e9dd7bf92c60de got
9a15cdfc8c2ff88a4b78af5e1678b49e
and then unmonitors it. Re-enabling monitoring only reports the error
again, but "monit reload" monitors for the new checksum.
This should probably integrate in some way with apt post-hooks or
the checkrestart script or something similiar or the checksum check
should be removed from the scripts.

Alexander Schier

Bug#867669: monit summary doesn't detect rxvt as color terminal

2017-07-08 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: monit
Version: 5.20.0-6
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
when running "monit summary" in rxvt with TERM=rxvt-unicode I get a
plain dumb-terminal output. When running it in the same terminal as
"TERM=xterm monit summary" I get a nicely formatted table with colors
indicating the status of the services.
It seems, that monit needs a longer list of terminals supporting colors
and/or a switch to force colored output.

Bug#866752: dovecot-imapd: Dovecot doesn't start because of blacklisted SSLv2 protocol

2017-07-01 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: dovecot-imapd
Version: 1:2.2.27-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
dovecot doesn't start after the upgrade, when you configured (more)
secure TLS with the line

ssl_protocols = !SSLv2 !SSLv3

with the error message:
dovecot: imap-login: Fatal: Invalid ssl_protocols setting: Unknown
protocol 'SSLv2'

After removing !SSLv2 from the line (I assume, SSLv2 is now fully
removed from dovecot) it starts without problems.

As this configuration is recommended in many "how to secure your
mailserver" howtos, i think this will break for many people on upgrade,
while ignoring a "!SSLv2" line when there is no such protocol should be
safe.

Alexander Schier

I did not get the question (this time at least), possibly I answered yes
on the dist-upgrade.

But this was the correct hint, still i believe there is a bug:

chown root.root /etc/postfix/dynamicmaps.cf
chmod 640 /etc/postfix/dynamicmaps.cf

fixed the issue. I do not remember changing anything in the file, so I
ask myself if the old or new package created it owned by postfix (why
not?), which causes the problems.

Dear Maintainer,
when I upgraded to stretch, my mysql settings did not work anymore.
I have postfix, postfix-mysql and postfix-pcre installed and get

warning: mysql:/etc/postfix/sql/mysql_virtual_alias_maps.cf is

warning: CBE8E1A40227: virtual_alias_maps map lookup problem for

virtual_alias_maps =

Downgrading postfix and postfix-mysql to the debian jessie version is a
workaround for the issue. But why doesn't it work in stretch?

for thunderbird to open the correct browser when clicking on links, you
need to include the following lines into the thunderbird.profile file:

read-only ~/.local/share/applications

This allows firefox to read the filetype/protocol associations, which

"echo"), i found that systemd-exec tries to append dns records to the
command line:

exec /usr/sbin/dnsmasq -x /run/dnsmasq/dnsmasq.pid -u dnsmasq -7
/etc/dnsmasq.d,.dpkg-dist,.dpkg-old,.dpkg-new --local-service . 172800

running dnsmasq or dnsmasq -d without appending such records works with
my config just fine.
I am not sure what it is appending there, but i do not see why i should
want it there anyway, even when it would have the correct syntax.
I think a initscript should start a service as vanilla as possible, i
have my own dnsmasq.conf and are a bit surprised that the initscript
wants to add stuff i did not add myself.

Bug#854373: kwin-x11: kwin sometimes hangs with 100% cpu for kwin_x11

2017-02-06 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: kwin-x11
Version: 4:5.8.2-1+b1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
sometimes kwin_x11 hangs and can only be killed (SIGKILL, not SIGTERM)
via a console. Afterwards compositing is disabled. This happens quite
regularily with the current versions and the nvidia driver (375.26-2),
which probably should be fixed in the freeze before the stable release.
The steps to restart it without killing the session are quite a bit of
work:
- switch to linux console
- killall -9 kwin kwin_x11;sleep 3;DISPLAY=:0 kwin & exit
- switch to the X-Server again
- Sometimes you need to kill kwin again (focus on windows works again
  now) and restart it
- Use systemsettings to re-enable compositing
- Use kwin --replace to get a working instance again

I am not sure what is causing the problems, but it happens too often as
i would recommend including it in this version into a stable release.

Bug#854372: kwin-x11: kwin starts flickering the screen contents

2017-02-06 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: kwin-x11

Dear Maintainer,
with the nvidia driver (375.26-2) kwin sometimes starts flickering the
screen contents, especially the content of semi-transparent windows
starts flashing dark and bright until you stop compositing
(shift-alt-f12 hotkey).
I think this is a problem, which should be fixed in the stretch freeze
before kwin is fit for a stable distribution.

Bug#854371: plasma-workspace: plasmashell freezes

2017-02-06 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: plasma-workspace
Version: 4:5.8.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
plasmashell (especially the panel, but a restart of "plasmashell" helps)
randomly freezes, probably related to using the non-free nvidia driver
(version 375.26-2). While the task switcher (icons-only-taskmanager) and
the menu keep working, you get black rectangles over the panel and the
tray icons and clicking a tray icon activates another tray icon (shifted
by 1 or more places). One of the most annoying problems is, that the
clock plasmoid in the panel stops working.
I would have said its "testing" software and lets wait for the next
release, but when stretch is now freezing, i think its a 'serious'
(release blocking) bug, even when i cannot name a section in the debian
policy manual

2017-01-30 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: gmpc
Version: 11.8.16-10
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
while the debian jessie version of gmpc had the consistent behaviour,
that scrolling over the trayicon changed the volume, gmpc now often
skips to the next/previous song. First i thought this was a change in
gmpc, but sometimes it still has the old (more favorable) behaviour,
other times it has the new behaviour. I do not see a setting to change
this and cannot tell when it behaves the one or the other way.

Yes, it does. It has some legal notice, that access is logged in there,
which starts with "WARNING".

Maybe apt-dater just should supress the issue.net, like using "ssh -q"?

Bug#811417: apt-dater reports an error for servers with multi-line issue.net

Dear Maintainer,
apt-dater reports an error after each upgrade for hosts, where
/etc/issue.net has multiple lines, like:

Maybe it thinks the issue.net is an error message. One line issue.net
files work, even if its not the standard GNU/Linux Debian x.y line.

I thought it when it appeared the first time and wanted to search the
postinst script to add some exit 0 to make it run completely, but it
wasn't the problem. And "dpkg --configure -a" does nothing afterwards,
so everything is configured as it should

I do not know about anything special, which wasn't included in the
bugreport. But you can suggest where i could investigate.

Bug#803676: icinga-web-config-icinga2-ido-mysql: dbconfig creates database with wrong permissions and fails because of this

2015-11-01 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: icinga-web-config-icinga2-ido-mysql
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
when installing icinga-web-config-icings2-ido-mysql and configuring for
another host than localhost the dbconfig creates a user with access
icinga2_web@localhost, even when another hostname via TCP/IP is
specified. When all questions are answered, the creation of the database
fails because it does not have the rights to populate the database (and
the webinterface does not have the rights to access it).
The problem affects the icinga2-ido-mysql package as well.

Bug#725818: akonadi-backend-sqlite: Akonadi does not start, when no mysql-backend is installed

2013-10-08 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: akonadi-backend-sqlite
Version: 1.7.2-3
Severity: important

I installed akonadi-backend-sqlite and uninstalled
akonadi-backend-mysql, which was possible. Now akonadi does not start.
If there is a implicit dependency, that the mysql backend at least needs
to be installed, its no package dependency of akonadi-server,
akonadi-backend-sqlite or any of the akonadi clients.
So either its a bug, that the sqlite backend cannot be used, or there is
a missing dependency, which is needed to use the sqlite backend.

Bug#725475: grub-efi: Grub exits with "couldn't terminate EFI services", when Wake on LAN is enabled

2013-10-06 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: grub-efi
Version: 1.99-27+deb7u1
Severity: normal
Tags: d-i upstream

Dear Maintainer,
The grub-efi package does not boot, when Wake on LAN is enabled on a EFI
system. Seems like grub would need to terminate the WoL function first
or something like this. Or maybe it cannot boot with WoL enabled? Then
there should be a more specific error message (you need to disable WoL
first), if possible to detect the reason for this error.

Bug#677196: debian-installer: wrong duplicate partition label message in the debian installer

2012-06-12 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

Steps to reproduce:
- start installing a debian, when it comes to the partition menu, select manual
- create partition, i.e. ext4 with label "root"
- change the partition-type to swap
- add another partition, set type to ext4 and label to "root"
- try to continue the installation

What happens:
- Message "duplicate label, partitions 1 and 2 are both named 'root'

Expected results:
- the installer should notice, that the first partition is NOT formatted ext4
and the swap has no label.

Workaround:
- go to the swap partition again
- change type to ext4
- change label to something else
- change type to swap again
- continue with the installation

Bug#646924: duplicity regression, mkdir on pathelements on scp locations

2011-11-03 Thread Alexander Schier
I cannot really reproduce it, because i had some testing package on the
system and i am back to stable and cannot break the system now again.
But i noticed that the duplicity from testing had this misbehaviour and
thought i should report it before the package comes in the next stable
with this bug.

I just can say, that the same URI works with the debian stable duplicity
and had errors because of no permission on the parent folders with the
duplicity from debian testing. And the error-reporting is broken,
because it says something about wrong passphrase, but i think there are
other bugs for this issue already.

Bug#646924: duplicity regression, mkdir on pathelements on scp locations

2011-10-28 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: duplicity
Version: 0.6.15-3
Severity: normal

while the debian stable version (0.6.08b-1+b1) works just fine, the current
testing version has a problem, because it tries to mkdir folders on
scp-location, where it does not have the privileges.

when my backup-path is scp://user@host/users/username/backup/, it tries to
"mkdir users", which fails, because this folder exists and does not belong to
"user" but to root. Additional the error-message is misleading, because it says
"wrong SSH passphrase", while you can see with -v6 switch, that the mkdir
fails, not the sftp command.

just set the shell to /bin/bash and upstream should decide to use bash
explicit or to remove any bashisms.

for me its grave, because i cannot use dvtm.

but i tested with konsole and it worked. so its a problem with (ubuntu)
urxvt vs ssh-dvtm on debian server.

and i'm using the urxvt-tab extension:

put in your .Xresources:

Bug#471492: RFA: fatsort-gui -- a really simple gui for fatsort

2008-03-18 Thread Alexander Schier
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I built packages for it, which are located at
http://test.laxu.de/fatsort-gui/
It would be nice, if some maintainer would adopt them, to get them into
debian.

I request an adopter for the fatsort-gui package.

The package description is:
a simple GUI for fatsort using zenity and HAL to present
 a list of possible fat-devices.
