Bug#839697: libc6: libresolv cannot resolve hosts with malformed "attempts"

2016-10-03 Thread Alexander Tait Brotman
Package: libc6
Version: 2.24-3
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

While reconfiguring the /etc/resolv.conf, the integer parameter for "attempts"
was
removed. I'm not sure if I'd call this a bug in the documentation or in the
library
itself. It seems that what happens is that when the file contains something
like "attmepts:" (note the missing parameter), the libresolv returns after zero
attempts.

I marked this as upstream as I also tested this in CentOS, and the same issue
exists there. Based on the documentation from "man 5 resolv.conf", this is
unexpected
behavior. The documentation states that the default is 2, while it is silently
capped at 5. It makes no mention about what the absence of a parameter might
do.

Bug#699307: network-manager-vpnc should mention network-manager-vpnc-gnome

2013-01-29 Thread Alexander Tait Brotman
Package: network-manager-vpnc
Version: 0.9.4.0-1
Severity: wishlist

I was trying to setup a Cisco VPN to use with my workplace, and I found that
clicking to add a VPN
through the GUI resulted in nothing being displayed. There was no error
message or additional information.
Upon installing network-manager-vpnc-gnome, clicking the Add button enabled the
set of windows to add the
VPN setup to my network-manager options. I didn't see any mention of this
package in the documentation
for the network-manager-vpnc package. I also did not see it in the package
description. Could there be
some mention in the docs, or perhaps even suggest to the user to install the
package when that Add button
doesn't find the required package to be installed.

Bug#605051: xserver-xorg: Cannot run "Xorg -configure" on PowerPC

2010-11-26 Thread Alexander Tait Brotman
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+8
Severity: important

I was trying to configure an Apple Mini to output to an LCD TV via the VGA
port. At one point, this system worked with Lenny, but neither
a full-upgrade nor fresh install of squeeze give any X output.

The autodection mechanism for Xorg does not work, so I was trying to create an
xorg.conf to try some manual config, when I run "Xorg -configure",
I get the following:

Bug#563759: gnome-keyboard-properties: visual notification of accessibility features using systray

2010-01-04 Thread Alexander Tait Brotman
Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:2.28.1-1
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if the "blue man in the systray" would blink or change colors
if one of the accessibility options becomes enabled. I'd think by changing
colors you could show which options have been enabled using different colors.

The slowkeys had become accidentally enabled, and I thought that the keyboard
had stopped responding and something was very wrong with my session. I didn't
realize that they were enabled because I had closed the notification that was
asking me if I wanted to enable the slowkeys. I thought by closing the
window, it was like saying I didn't want the slowkeys enabled, but this was
wrong (perhaps a different bug should be filed on that?).

Visual notification of the option being enabled would have told me that I had
turned the option on.

Thank you.

It doesn't seem possible to use fceu with a laptop(mine is a Thinkpad)

Bug#342839: evince: personal bookmark system

Package: evince

It might be useful to have a personal bookmark system for evince. Let's
say you're reading a 300pg PDF and you'd like to quit for the evening
and logoff. It would be nice if evince could remember where I was when
I start reading again next time. Perhaps storing something like:

md5sumOfFile:filename:pgNumber

A personal bookmark manager might also then be useful.

Bug#336343: jack: command line option parsing seems broken

2005-10-29 Thread Alexander Tait Brotman
Package: jack
Version: 3.1.1-8
Severity: normal

When attempting to use jack, the command line option parsing seems to be
broken, and perhaps inconsistent.

jack -Q --encoder-name "lame" -t 3 --rename-fmt "%a-%l-%n-%t"
--unusable-chars " " --replacement-chars "_"

and

jack -Q --encoder-name "lame" -t 3 --rename-fmt "%a-%l-%n-%t"
--unusable-chars " " --replacement-chars "_" --save

In the first example, the program will replace the " " with "%" when
renaming. You can get it to work by using --replacement-chars="_", but
the man page doesn't say to do this. However, the --unusable-chars
works as --unstable-chars " " or --unusable-chars=" "

In the second, the program will not save my preferences. If
I put the --save earlier in the command, then it does work.

Bug#310607: samba: Samba 3.0.14a(specifically nmbd) crashes on start and randomly

2005-05-24 Thread Alexander Tait Brotman
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.14a-1
Severity: important

Samba is unusable with my configuration because nmbd crashes randomly
and when the system is booted. It seems most crashes happen on Sundays,
but not always.

I do not think this should be an RC bug because apparently having samba
authenticate against an NT4 PDC is an uncommon configuration.

Bug#307571: gnomebaker: Gnomebaker fails to start

2005-05-03 Thread Alexander Tait Brotman
Package: gnomebaker
Version: 0.3-3
Severity: important

When I attempt to start gnomebaker it crashes. This could be related to
#302906, but mine doesn't freeze. Either starting from commandline or
gnome menu, the result is the same. It starts the splash screen and
then the gnome app crash window comes up.

Backtrace from bugbuddy:
