Yes. It's really used, But if file buggy, why it isn't crashed when playing from local file, not from http? Bug#703646: mplayer: crashes when play mpg file from http
Package: mplayer Version: 2:1.0~rc4.dfsg1+svn34540-1+b2 Severity: normal When I trying to play mpg files from http (static file from lighttpd or from upnp server) mplayer crashed. Files were encoded with avconv and avplay successfully decodes such files. Same file played from nfs/local file without crash. Attached output of gdb. If you need file example I can provide it (or you can download file on url from gdb output). Bug#697354: gnome-shell: freezes randomly on alt-tab
Today I tried to investigate problem again and found that when dconf key org.gnome.desktop.sound.event-sounds enabled desktop freezes, and when disabled - not, so possible workaround - not to remove libcaberra-pulseaudio, but disable that key. My previous message about enabled/disabled sounds was about gnome-control-center "sound effects" options. Hi, event sounds disabled already, enabling it not helps too :) It seems that after removing libcanberra-pulse freezes disappeared, so you are free to reassign bug or something else.
