Bug#556610: incremental checkarray every night instead of a full monthly

2012-06-14 Thread Alice Ferrazzi
Hello,

there is also a patch about it here:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-mdadm/mdadm.git;a=blobdiff;f=debian/checkarray;h=72bbe567ad2803cb8b36b4d94cd4951ad43ed90c;hp=dafc652930cab7ab19d3e148d81fbbe3527002cf;hb=00b7efaef7fc837deaca9991ff718f096b8d1883;hpb=0b80e69a2a980be27d30536099b69e76688ba7cc

maybe if you like it you can integrate it in your patch

 Hello,

 Attached new patchset.

 1) Run checkarray for 1h every day, doing 1/CHECK_SPLIT of job.
 2) CHECK_SPLIT tunable via /etc/default/mdadm or by --split option
 3) Introduced --interrupt and --cancel options (last one --interrupt
current arrays check *and* reset sync_min/sync_max to default).

Remaining issue: multiple arrays, sharing common physical disks. We
can set /sys/block/mdX/md/sync_force_parallel to 1 temporary while
doing checks. It's easy doable, but may introduce some problems.
 Another solution (looks ugly): pooling
 /sys/block/mdX/md/sync_completed *and* cancel check when
 sync_completed equal to sync_max.

PS: Looks like there is no chance to enter any solution for this
whishlist item to Wheezy. But it would be really nice to see anything
from the maintainers, related to suggested above implementations.

I'm looking for someone to take over maintenance of the nautilus-actions
package. I don't really use this package, and I want to focus my Debian
contributions more on bugtracking and other areas.

I have included debian-gtk-gnome@ and debian-women@ on this bug report
because:

a) the package is maintained in the pkg-gnome repository, though it is
not an official gnome package

b) I am willing to mentor/sponsor someone who takes over this package,
especially women, so if someone from either of these lists is looking
for a package to maintain, I would help you get up to speed here.

Please let me know if you are interested in working on this package!
There is a new version that needs to be uploaded, and I can get you on
the package maintainer's list. Upstream is quite responsive and
receptive.

cheers,
Christine

 a non-standard approach for this.

 This seems better:

 /var/lib/mdadm/mdadmday on first install

And I think it could even be exported with debconf (priority low).

That's great, I suggest that you get yourself acquainted with the
package a bit and maybe start off by creating patches (debdiffs or
Git commits) for some of the bugs?

 Does that sound good?

sounds good ^_^

 [Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]

 Package: wnpp
 Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the mdadm package. I can still
maintain it, but would like to pass it to someone else in the long
run, so now would be a good time to get into it.

 The package description is:
The mdadm utility can be used to create, manage, and monitor MD
(multi-disk) arrays for software RAID or multipath I/O.
  .
This package automatically configures mdadm to assemble arrays during the
system startup process. If not needed, this functionality can be disabled.
