Oh, *sigh*. Sorry, the failure to cc can be blamed on my switching between MUAs; this one has a single reply button and a dialog that asks me "reply to everyone?" and I've grown accustomed, so don't think to look for the "all" button instead. I'm afraid that I'm in something of a bind, so if you have reason to believe that this is fixed as of 3.4, I'll accept that. The problem is called hughes.net, bloodsuckers of the rural landscape, and their foul access policy that means that once I've gotten behind on updates, I daren't try to catch up. Err. Basically, I'm going to have to burn a DVD at work, over a hot connection, before I can risk trying an update at home, because otherwise my connection will be throttled to tens of bytes per second in retaliation. I don't know when I can do it, so it's best if you just regard me as complaisant with whatever evaluation you've arrived at. If you wish, I can forward (as attachment) an email that displayed the behavior, so that you can (perhaps) extract it and examine it. But you may not feel that it's worth the effort. Bug#474028: oowriter - broken measurement units in paragraphproperties
Hi, > Can this please be made configurable (and cm please be the default). When > looking at the patches, this looks like intended but I don't see an option. You could changed the 'Enabled for Asian languages' checkbox in 'Tools->Options->Language Settings->Languages' TabPage to checked or not. If this checkbox is checked and 'Enable char unit' CheckBox in 'Tools->Options->OpenOffice.org->General' TabPage is checked. Then whatever the local language is, the ruler unit is character unit. If the local language don't belong to Asian languages. And if the 'Enabled for Asian languages' checkbox in 'Tools->Options->Language Settings->Languages' TabPage is not checked, the default unit is Inch. And you can select any type of unit from type list of rulers or from the 'Measurement unit' ListBox in 'Tools->Options->OpenOffice.org->General' TabPage as youself default config unit. Cheers Amelia

Bug#454077: maven2: maven-eclipse-plugin does not exist
Dear Paul, On 2007-12-02 19:31:37 -0500 Paul Cager <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Amelia A Lewis wrote: Amy, if you have loads of spare time would you mind trying with the non-Debian version of Maven (e.g. as downloaded from http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.apache.org/maven/binaries/apache-maven-2.0.8-bin.tar.bz2 )? Only if you have spare time, of course. It might help eliminate / incriminate the Debian packaging. Umm. I may have to find the cycles for this, but I hope I don't. I don't actually *like* maven, so having it in a debian package (with recipes for use at the project wiki) was a lot more bearable than gritting my teeth and trying to learn it otherwise. :-) Is the location of "central" encoded into the binary or the config files somewhere? Maybe I could check that? I believe it is defined in the "super-pom" held in /usr/share/java/maven2.jar (org/apache/maven/project/pom-4.0.0.xml). I can't think of any way that could change accidentally. Okay. Checked it; it's fine. May be overridden in the hudson pom, but that doesn't really matter (since the override is identical to the super-pom). In file /etc/maven2/settings.xml is the value of "offline" set to false (the default value)? Apparently. There's a sample commented out. No actual content in the file; all commented out. Are you behind a HTTP proxy or firewall? (My apologies if I am stating the obvious). Well ... the answer isn't terribly obvious. I'm connected via satellite (Hughesnet, may they rot in hell forever). Their "acceleration" technology involves spoofing DNS at least, and probably "transparently" proxying http. I can disable most of this $%^&* most of the time, but I would think that a failure of that sort would leave a trace in the output (can't resolve repo1.maven.org, for instance). So ... I don't think so, because: (ydhegar)amyzing:/pub/projects/hudson/hudson$ host repo1.maven.org repo1.maven.org has address 63.246.20.112 mvn install for hudson (hudson.dev.java.net; it's a continuous integration server on the order of cruise control but with less cruft) succeeded (with a *lot* of network accesses). Comparing with the other plugins, it's missing the pom and the jar. Grumble, grumble ... aha! Delete the directory, try the command again. Note that the first attempt to invoke eclipse:eclipse used this command line (as advised in hudson build notes): mvn -o -DdownloadSources=true eclipse:eclipse Yes, they advise offline mode. It appears that this may create the directory with inadequate stuff, because once I delete the directory and run the command without -o, it succeeds. Problem solved. Thank you for your time, and please excuse my verbosity. I recommend: 1) close this bug with no action; it resulted from wrongheaded directions supplied by a mavenized project over which Debian has no influence; 2) note the behavior, in case future bug reports show similar symptoms: if a user reports an error of this sort, suggest that they try deleting the "problem" directory i

Bug#452895: claws-mail: make the queue yourself; i don't want to see it
Package: claws-mail Version: 3.1.0-1 Severity: normal Upstream. claws-mail requires a local folder (which therefore *must* display in the accounts tree) in order to send mail for any account. I don't want a local folder (at all). My configuration got automatically imported from Sylpheed (nicely done!), but then I had to google "Could not queue message for sending", discover that it meant that claws-mail would *not* work without an otherwise useless and unwanted local mail folder in the folder tree, and create the thing. I can't even remove the useless "inbox" "trash" "drafts" and "sent" folders, when all I want it for is to satisfy claws-mail's insistence that it needs a local folder. So ... create it yourself, developers. It's easy enough: look for a local MH folder that contains a "queue"; don't find it; create it; then *don't show it to me unless it's got something in it*. I've got nine accounts to keep track of already; I don't need another false target to misdrop onto. Yes, I understand that it's supposed to keep my important email safe. No, I still don't want a "local folder tree". If you need a place to keep it safe, and there's no local folder, ~/.claws-mail/queue. I don't want to be forced to create it, and I don't want to see it (except when claws crashes and I need to recover a queued mail). Bug#452893: claws-mail: (invalid) subject header displayed as garbage; be more generous
Package: claws-mail Version: 3.1.0-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: l10n This is for upstream. Many email clients (especially when poorly written or poorly configured by the users, so perhaps "most" email clients) may have subject lines containing non-ASCII characters, which is illegal vice RFCs 2821/2822 and the various MIME extensions, but is nonetheless common. It is not clear how claws-mail chooses to display this information. Given a Content-Type: text/plain; charset=Windows-1251, one might hope to see Cyrillic. Using the default locale (UTF-8), one would expect to see nothing at all (the sequence of characters are not legal UTF-8). I am not sure what exactly is being used to display the characters (ISO8859-1 or -15? why is that a more reasonable choice than anything else?), but it's not a good choice. Sylpheed, for instance, generously uses the heuristic mentioned below to decide how to display non-ASCII, unencoded characters in headers. "Display source" shows everything non-ASCII as an underscore. While I found this annoying at first, it then made sense to me. Given any non-ASCII (high bit set) characters in a Subject header, a good response would be to check the Content-Type header for a charset pseudo-attribute, and use that. Вам пришла открытка would display as such. Failing that, another possible alternative would be to replicate the "display source" behavior. Choosing the character set defined by the user's locale is another option; it won't always work, but it might, for some users (not for me, for instance). The current behavior, which apparently chooses some character set convenient to the developer, is the worst possible solution; there's no justification for displaying these characters in that particular character set. It's particularly annoying to see this, because it's something that Sylpheed got right. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages claws-mail depends on: ii libaspell15 0.60.5-1 GNU Aspell spell-checker runtime l ii libc6 2.7-1GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.10-1+b2 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcompfaceg1 1:1.5.2-4Compress/decompress images for mai ii libetpan11 0.52-1 mail handling library ii libglib2.0-02.14.3-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.12.1-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libldap22.1.30.dfsg-13.5 OpenLDAP libraries ii libpango1.0-0 1.18.3-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpisock9 0.12.2-11library for communicating with a P ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8g-3 SSL shared libraries Versions of packages claws-mail recommends: ii aspell-en [aspell-dictionary] 6.0-0-5.1 English dictionary for GNU Aspell ii claws-mail-i18n 3.1.0-1Locale data for Claws Mail (i18n s ii xfonts-100dpi 1:1.0.0-4 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 1:1.0.0-4 75 dpi fonts for X -- no debconf information

Second, in most cases the HTTP request causes an entire response page to be created, so when the response is received by Internet Explorer, the entire page is repainted. It has been reported that more than 100 frameworks for AJAX development exist today-they support a variety of platforms and utilize a number of programming approaches. A more granular, more flexible approach than grouping controls in a container is to have each individual control decide how it renders AJAX-style postbacks. The best way for me to show you where this column is headed is with a couple of screenshots. NET AJAX lingo, this is referred to as partial rendering. The solution is to remove that one line of code from the gateway program entirely, and move it into a high-privileged helper process. There are two main reasons for this requirement. NET CSS Friendly Control Adapters. Plus, you don't have to write a single line of code for that service. NET AJAX falls into this third category. This approach doesn't work for AJAX applications because they use special XMLHTTP requests. NET AJAX, updatable controls are grouped in an outermost container control (the UpdatePanel). Partial rendering is a common feature in various AJAX frameworks, although the internal implementations vary. Remote method calls sounds a bit too vague, so I'll narrow this to partial page postbacks and out-of-band requests. A framework, in fact, could generate made-to-measure script code as the output of a server-side control. Bug#404453: log rotation causes slimserver to stop playing
Package: slimserver Version: 6.3.0-4 Severity: normal Every Sunday morning at 6:30, the slimserver log is rotated, and my player (which is on infinite-loop random-by-album, 750 albums and about 10K songs which should take three weeks to play completely) stops. This is annoying. When it restarts, it's randomized differently (starting from the album playing when it was killed by the log disappearance), but it means that instead of playing the entire list before randomizing and starting over, I only get about a third of it, and some things get played much more often than they would if it continued as I have it set. I don't think that this is an upstream, since it is an interaction with the debian logrotate facility. In fact, the problem is clearly that slimserver is forced to restart in the script in /etc/logrotate.d/slimserver. On the other hand, maybe it is an upstream. The logfile is not initialized in initSettings() (where it would respond to a sighup, which is what the init script's reload sends (via start-stop-daemon)), but in daemonize(), which is only called once on start (or restart). There isn't a good workaround. Failing to rotate the logs is liable to lead to them growing to unacceptable dimensions; there isn't a good built-in way to signal the daemon that its logfile has been rotated out. The least-dangerous way to stop it from dying every Sunday morning seems to be to disable logging, and then disable log rotation--which means that any *other* problems are liable to be that much harder to diagnose. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.10 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages slimserver depends on: ii adduser 3.101Add and remove users and groups ii debconf 1.5.11 Debian configuration management sy ii flac1.1.2-5 Free Lossless Audio Codec - comman ii libcache-cache-perl 1.05-2 Managed caches of persistent infor ii libclass-accessor-chained-p 0.01-2 make chained accessors ii libclass-data-inheritable-p 0.04-1 Inheritable, overridable class dat ii libclass-dbi-abstractsearch 0.07-2 Abstract Class::DBI's SQL with SQL ii libclass-dbi-pager-perl 0.08-2 Pager utility for Class::DBI ii libclass-dbi-plugin-perl0.03-4 Abstract base class for Class::DBI ii libclass-dbi-plugin-retriev 1.04-2 A more complex retrieve_all() meth ii libclass-singleton-perl 1.03-7 perl Class::Singleton - Implementa ii libclass-trigger-perl 0.10-2 Mix-in to add / call inheritable t ii libclass-virtual-perl 0.05-2 Base class for virtual base classe ii libclass-whitehole-perl 0.04-4 Base class to treat unhandled meth ii libcompress-zlib-perl 1.42-2 Perl module for creation and manip ii libdata-page-perl 2.00-3 Help when paging through sets of r ii libdbd-sqlite3-perl 1.13-1.1 Perl DBI driver with a self-contai ii libdbi-perl 1.53-1 Perl5 database interface by Tim Bu ii libdbix-contextualfetch-per 1.03-2 Add context aware fetches to DBI ii libfile-slurp-perl .09-1single call read & write file rout ii libfile-which-perl 0.05-7 Perl module for searching paths fo ii libgd-gd2-perl 1:2.34-1 Perl module wrapper for libgd - gd ii libhtml-parser-perl 3.55-1 A collection of modules that parse ii libima-dbi-perl 0.34-3 Database connection caching and or ii libio-string-perl 1.08-2 Emulate IO::File interface for in- ii libnet-dns-perl 0.59-1 Perform DNS queries from a Perl sc ii libnet-ip-perl 1.25-2 Perl extension for manipulating IP ii libpath-class-perl 0.15-1 Cross-platform path specification ii librpc-xml-perl 0.59-1 Perl module implementation of XML- ii libsoap-lite-perl 0.69-1 Client and server side SOAP implem ii libsql-abstract-limit-perl 2:0.12-1 portable LIMIT emulation ii libsql-abstract-perl1.21-2 Generate SQL from Perl data struct ii libtemplate-perl2.14-1 template processing system written ii libtie-regexphash-perl 0.13-1 CPAN's Tie::RegexpHash - Use regul ii libtime-modules-perl2003.1126-2 Various Perl modules for time/date ii libtimedate-perl1.1600-5 Time and date functions for Perl ii libuniversal-moniker-perl 0.08-4 Nicer names for your Perl modules/ ii libwww-perl 5.805-1 WWW client/server library for Perl ii libxml-namespacesupport-per 1.09-3 Perl module for supporting simple ii libxml-sax-perl 0.14-0.1 Perl module for using and buildin

Bug#363556: fop: still broken
Package: fop Version: 1:0.20.5-8 Followup-For: Bug #363556 Need those dependencies. Installing libxp6 (and its dependencies) does not resolve the error. All right. After chasing around for a bit, this seems to be the list of things needed: libxp6 libxt6 libxtst6 These draw in further dependencies, but without these three, it appears that nothing works. Systems running an X server won't notice; these things are already installed. Note: I'm not sure that I agree that this is "minor". Bug#292760: sylpheed-gtk2: discards characters in header with high bit set
Package: sylpheed-gtk2 Version: 0.9.99-2 Severity: normal Tags: l10n Upstream; not debian-specific. My system locale is ISO-8859-1. If I send characters that are in this character set, Sylpheed (correctly) uses "encoded word" to ensure that they appear in the headers. All fine. I recently began corresponding with Russian friends, using KOI8-R. I can easily (easily enough) set the encoding for Sylpheed to KOI8-R, and type Russian in the body of the email. Again, fine. Sylpheed displays headers received from correspondents which contain cyrillic characters in encoded-word format correctly. However, because ISO-8859-1 doesn't include these characters, Sylpheed replaces them on outgoing mail with underscores (really replaces them, that is, not just replaces them on display; what's worse is that they seem to display correctly, while composing, but are replaced with _ _ _ when the message is sent). This happens even on replies. That is, for a reply, Sylpheed has seen the encoded-word format for KOI8-R, and decoded it properly, and displays it. But it won't wrap the headers back up in KOI8-R encoded word; instead it discards them, replacing them with underscores. Recommended: currently, the preferences for the client as a whole have to be set to a different encoding in order to use a different encoding for a particular message. Instead, add "Select Encoding" to the Message menu when composing a message. Then, when preparing headers, check the message encoding first, and use encoded-word with that charset in preference even to the system locale. This would significantly improve ease of use for users who correspond with people whose native language is different. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.26 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages sylpheed-gtk2 depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.8.0-4 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.3.2.ds1-20GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcompfaceg11989.11.11-24 Compress/decompress images for mai ii libglib2.0-0 2.4.8-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgpgme60.3.16-2GPGME - GnuPG Made Easy ii libgtk2.0-0 2.4.14-2The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libldap2 2.1.30-3OpenLDAP libraries ii libpango1.0-01.6.0-3 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpisock8 0.11.8-10 Library for communicating with a P ii libssl0.9.7 0.9.7e-3SSL shared libraries ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System protocol client li ii xlibs4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
