Hallo Matthias,

I found out that Archlinux has both:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/qgnomeplatform-qt5-git
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/qgnomeplatform-qt6-git

Maybe a new qgnomeplatform-qt6 source package, which builds only qt6 can do the
trick?

Bug#1052163: gnome-shell crashed the moment of snapping a screenshot of part of the screen, while a Firefox picture-in-picture video was running always-on-top

2023-09-18 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 44.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

gnome-shell crashed the moment of snapping a screenshot of part of the screen,
while a Firefox picture-in-picture pop-out video was running always-on-top of
other windows.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Run a Firefox picture-in-picture video always-on-top
2. Snap a screenshot of part of the screen

Upstream believes that the bug could be somewhere else, not gnome:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/7023

The core dump message and a stack trace are attached.

Amr

The icon theme package is enormous. Please breakup the huge package into
smaller packages. An idea is to split Papirus from EPapirus. Even more smaller
packages would be better.

Hi Fabian,

True. If you go to https://notofonts.github.io/ and look at any font, you'll see
that there is a "Source repository" selection, which opens the font's source on
GitHub.

For example, Noto Arabic <https://notofonts.github.io/#arabic> has its source at
<https://github.com/notofonts/arabic>, and so on.

Sorry, I don't have answers to that.

Or the individual fonts can be packaged from their own sources, which I
mentioned above. Whichever the Debian maintainer finds more practical.

Yes, it's kind of confusing.

True. If you go to https://notofonts.github.io/ and look at any font, you'll see

For example, Noto Arabic has its source at

Sorry, my mistake. noto-cjk has already been packaged separately at

2023-08-02 Thread Amr Ibrahim

Version: 1:115.0.1-2

Hallo Carsten,

Upstream now provides a desktop file as part of their Flatpak distribution:

https://salsa.debian.org/mozilla-team/thunderbird/-
/blob/debian/experimental/comm/taskcluster/docker/thunderbird-
flatpak/org.mozilla.Thunderbird.desktop

Historically, Debian also has a desktop file:

https://salsa.debian.org/mozilla-team/thunderbird/-
/blob/debian/experimental/debian/thunderbird.desktop

Please merge the contents of both desktop files, and install only the merged
file. (Notice the icon name change in the upstream file;
Icon=org.mozilla.Thunderbird)

A perfect course of action is to propose the Debian changes to upstream so that
you will be able to eventually delete the Debian-specific desktop file, and only
install the upstream one.

Amr

Bug#1041312: fonts-noto: Migrate to new upstream sources, and split the fonts according to upstream

2023-07-17 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Source: fonts-noto
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Upstream has new sources of fonts-noto:

https://notofonts.github.io/

https://github.com/notofonts/notofonts.github.io

You can see from that website that upstream releases individual font files. So
please try to re-package the font files in Debian accordingly.

Please also notice that noto-cjk now has its own source repository:
https://github.com/notofonts/noto-cjk

So please package noto-cjk in its own source package if possible.

Best,
Amr

Unfortunately, this needs a manual unblock request for it to migrate to Debian
testing to be part of Debian 12.

Bug#1036268: gnome-shell: Session crashes, thrown out to login screen, after the session has been idle & screen switched off

2023-05-18 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 43.4-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

After I leave the session idle for some time, with some apps open, and the
screen has switched off, I come back to find that the whole session has been
thrown out to the login screen, and I have to log myself in again to a new
session. This happens often, but not always!

Steps:

0.1 Set a 5 min timeout to both switch off and lock the screen
0.2 Set a 15 min timeout to automatically suspend the laptop when left idle and
on battery
0.3 Set a 30 min timeout to automatically suspend the laptop when left idle and
connected to a power source
1. On battery, leave a GNOME Shell session idle with some apps open
2. Come back after some minutes and see the screen has switched off, as
expected
3. Shake the mouse or type a key to switch on the screen or wake up the laptop
4. Find that the whole session has been thrown out the login screen
5. Log back in again to a new session, with no open apps

Please advise me to debug this bug further.

Best,
Amr

Bug#1035386: gnome-package-updater: does not find package upgrades, until after running 'apt update'

2023-05-02 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Package: gnome-package-updater
Version: 43.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

gnome-package-updater cannot find package upgrades, until after running 'apt
update'.

Steps:
0. Make sure that there are packages to upgrade without running 'apt update'
because that breaks the steps
1. Run gnome-package-updater
2. It does not find any package upgrades
3. Close gnome-package-updater
4. Run in a terminal 'sudo apt update'
5. apt will show the number of packages to upgrade
6. Run gnome-package-updater
7. It will show the package upgrades

What should happen:
gnome-package-updater finds package upgrades, when they are available, without
having to run 'apt update'.

Best,
Amr

Does passwordsafe need a manual approval to migrate to testing?

Super, thanks - I can reproduce it on my machine (and I don't believe
I'm running Wayland). I'll report it to upstream.

I did a bit more digging, and I've found the source of the problem: it
is the option Editor > Display > Wrap lines which doesn't play nicely
with autoformatting. I'm not sure exactly why, but I've reported
this.

Best wishes,

Thanks a lot, Julian. Let's see what upstream has to say.

Bug#1034302: passwordsafe: Cherry-pick clean-up commits for desktop file

2023-04-12 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Package: passwordsafe
Version: 1.16.0+dfsg-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

In Debian 11, passwordsafe 1.12.0 runs fine on Wayland through GTK3. However at
some point in time and in passwordsafe 1.16.0, upstream "erroneously" enforced
X11 in the desktop file.

Upstream have accepted my pull request to clean up the desktop file including
not to enforce X11 and let passwordsafe run normally on Wayland:
https://github.com/pwsafe/pwsafe/pull/905

Please cherry-pick the commits to be part of Debian 12. I have tested them in
Debian testing and passwordsafe runs fine.

Best,
Amr

Bug#1034085: spyder: Cursor jumps somewhere else after right-clicking → selecting Format with Black or Autopep8

2023-04-08 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Package: spyder
Version: 5.4.2+ds-5
Severity: normal

Hello,

Steps to reproduce the bug:
0. Enable a formatter: Black or Autopep8
1. Make sure that there is something to be formatted in the code
2. Right-click somewhere in the editor and select Format with Black or Autopep8

What happens:
After formatting the file, the cursor jumps somewhere else in the editor,
usually up, changing the editor view.

What should happen:
The cursor stays where it is after formatting is done.

Wordnet 3.1 is not a full package as version 3.0. However, the files in the

Bug#1032838: qgnomeplatform-qt5: App loses focus (dim) while moving window on Wayland

Package: qgnomeplatform-qt5

Dear Maintainer,

A Qt app loses focus (dim) while moving window on Wayland.
https://github.com/FedoraQt/QGnomePlatform/issues/115

There is a partial upstream fix that fixes the title-bar dimming. Please
cherry-pick the latest commits from upstream git. Note to also apply the
regression fix caused by the partial fix.

There are also a couple of other bug-fixing commits, which would be nice to be
cherry-picked from upstream git.

This bug does not exist in chromium wayland flatpak 110.0.5481.177. So
I think it is debian-package-specific.

Hallo,

The bug also exists in version 110.0.5481.77-2.

I have been experiencing this bug since many releases anyway, it's not
a recent regression.

Bug#1031956: ausweisapp2: App starts hidden in the background on gnome-shell + appindicator

2023-02-25 Thread Amr Ibrahim

Hallo,

Am 25.02.23 um 23:46 schrieb John Paul Adrian Glaubitz:

AusweisApp2 is not a GNOME application but a Qt application and therefore I
don't
think you can expect the application to show GNOME-specific behavior.

Unless upstream (CC'ed) wants to change this behavior in any way, I don't see
any
chance for this to be changed.

Thanks, Adrian, for the quick reply!

I don't really think it matters whether the app is a Qt or a GTK/GNOME
app. A Qt app is just built with the Qt framework. All other Qt apps
that I have installed behave normally as they should. And the app
starting in the foreground is not GNOME-specific, I believe that is sane
behaviour across desktop environments.

Bug#1031956: ausweisapp2: App starts hidden in the background on gnome-shell + appindicator

2023-02-25 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Package: ausweisapp2
Version: 1.26.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

On gnome-shell with gnome-shell-extension-appindicator installed, the app
starts hidden in the background without any window or an icon on the dash.

Its appindicator (tray icon) in the top panel only offers to quit the
application, however, double-clicking on the appindicator brings the app to the
foreground.

The correct behaviour should be that the app normally starts in the foreground,
and its appindicator offers to show/hide the app in the foreground/background.

Best,
Amr

Package: chromium
Version: 109.0.5414.119-1

Dear Maintainer,

Running Chromium on Wayland: I cannot join a Microsoft Teams enterprise
meeting.

An enterprise meeting is a meeting (external from my organisation), which I am
not automatically authorised to enter until someone who is already inside the
meeting accepts my request to enter the meeting.

Once someone accepts my request to enter the meeting, I get thrown out of the
meeting and have to try again without success.

Please let me know if more info is required.

Hello Andreas,

Thanks a lot for updating fontconfig.

Could you please fix these fontconfig bugs while you're at it:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=998284
(fontconfig-config: drop the dependency on ttf-bitstream-vera)

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=981577
(prefer dejavu over bitstream vera)

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=961386
(fontconfig-config: prefer dejavu over bitstream vera)

Those bugs are about dropping the very obsolete ttf-bitstream-vera font
as upstream fontconfig completely removed it from 60-latin.conf [1],
and the default became Noto [2][3].
