If I become the superuer, gnome stars (sudo doesn't do it). Faulty
configuration somewhere?

There's nothing but "gnome-session" in the .xinitrc. Could some other
file include an offending configuration? If so, which file?

Bug#518069: gnome-session: gnome fails to start after upgrade

2009-03-03 Thread andrej hocevar
Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.22.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After the last upgrade, gnome(-session) stopped working. I don't know
which package exactly it was that broke it, but when I startx with
gnome-session in my .xinitrc, I'm presented with a blank screen (that
was my actual background color before) and a mouse pointer, nothing
else. I can still start fvwm, though.

Bug#498215: gthumb: resize does not keep ratio

2008-09-08 Thread andrej hocevar
Package: gthumb
Version: 3:2.10.8-1
Severity: normal

The resize dialog presents the option to keep the original aspect ratio,
but it has no effect or, rather, works in a counterintuitive way.
Changing one value keeps the other the same. When trying to resize a
picture, giving only the horizontal dimension, it had the effect of
resizing it to the unchanged value of the vertical. In the end, the
ratio was right but the result was not what was expected.

Most of the time, Conky doesn't start: there's a segmentation fault.
When I try it a couple of times in a row, it will show up and run
nurmally with no changes whatsoever.

Here's what my syslog says:

Bug#344735: scrambles keyboard

2005-12-25 Thread andrej hocevar
Package: bl
Version: 1.2-10
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

bl renders my keyboard (asus m3n laptop) unusable; it's as if numlock
were really on or something weird. Consequently, it's left to chance to
be able to type in the superuser's password to remove the package (as
well as doing every other typing). Since it starts up at boot time, the
system becomes unuseable because it's not possible to log in. The
problem persists even after stoping the program.

Bug#222144: samba: filesystem problem solved

2005-03-21 Thread Andrej Hocevar
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.10-1
Followup-For: Bug #222144

I've found this in the log:

tdb(/var/run/samba/gencache.tdb): tdb_reopen: file dev/inode has
changed!

Then I remembered I was testing something and issued a "mount -a".
Obviously, that caused the problems on my side; after a reboot all is
well again. Thanks.

Bug#222144: samba: Samba 'panic action' script was called

2005-03-18 Thread Andrej Hocevar
Package: samba
Version: 3.0.10-1
Followup-For: Bug #222144

I see this has happened before, but I don't know if it's already been
dealt with. However, I remember the first time it happened: I was
editing a file in a directory that was mounted with samba. When I tried
to :saveas it as something on my local drive, the problems have started.
Later, I downloaded some photos to the disk on a computer with Windows
from a camera to a subdirectory of that one which gets mounted to my
linux box. It was accessible -- I could issue "ls" and see the files --
but could not read them or anything else. When I made a copy of the
subfolder in the same folder, everything was ok. Besides, I mount two
directory trees from that computer and one is working perfectly.

[the mail from samba follows:]
The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for pid 18025 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occured. You are
