Bug#1069598: missing files on smb shares with linux kernel 6.1.0-20

2024-04-24 Thread Bastian Kleineidam

Hi,

I can reproduce this error when running linux-image-6.1.0-20-amd64: some
files on mounted smb shares are not visible.
These are the log entries on a client maching (not the server), when
trying to access the missing files on a mounted cifs share:

CIFS: VFS: directory entry name would overflow frame end of buf
7153a3e1
[... repeated several times ...]

There are no such errors and no missing files when downgrading to
linux-image-6.1.0-18-amd64 on the client (the server is still running
kernel version 6.1.0-20).

I guess there is a new but sometimes broken overflow detection in the
cifs filesystem code.

Regards,
Bastian

Bug#774996: O: fiaif -- easy to use, yet complex firewall

2015-01-09 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I intend to orphan the fiaif package since I am stepping down
as Debian maintainer due to lack of time.
Please note that fiaif is not developed actively upstream anymore.

The package description is:
 Fiaif is an Intelligent Firewall.
 .
The Goal of FIAIF is to provide a highly customizable script for
setting up an iptables based firewall.
 .
Unlike many other scripts, FIAIF can be truly customized allowing
multiple interfaces (or rather zones). There is no limit on the number
of zones. All configuration is done through configuration files.
No need to understand the script behind it all.
 .
The script makes heavy use of state-full firewalling,
and all RELATED and ESTABLISHED packets are accepted on all chains.
If you wish to block something out, don't accept it in the first place.
 .
The script is written in BASH. Though this is not the optimal
program to use, it means that you do not need to install extra
 interpreters on your firewall.
This allows you to have a minimalistic installation on your firewall.
 .
Install this package if your machine is ever on the internet.

Bug#774991: O: libpam-mount -- PAM module that can mount volumes for a user session

2015-01-09 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I intend to orphan the libpam-mount package since I am stepping down
as Debian maintainer due to lack of time.
Please note that there already is an NMU of this package, plus
a new upstream version (2.15). Two patches add the fd0ssh and ofl
binaries to avoid an additional dependency to the hxtools package.
If you want to package the hxtools library those two patches can be
dropped.

The package description is:
This module is aimed at environments with central file servers that a
user wishes to mount on login and unmount on logout, such as
(semi-)diskless stations where many users can logon.
 .
The module also supports mounting local filesystems of any kind the
normal mount utility supports, with extra code to make sure certain
volumes are set up properly because often they need more than just a
mount call, such as encrypted volumes. This includes SMB/CIFS, FUSE,
 dm-crypt and LUKS.

Bug#702029: ITP: patool -- portable archive file manager for the commandline console

2013-03-01 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Bastian Kleineidam cal...@debian.org

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

* Package name: patool
  Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Bastian Kleineidam cal...@debian.org
* URL : http://wummel.github.com/patool/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : portable archive file manager for the commandline console

Various archive formats can be created, extracted, tested, listed,
searched, compared and repacked by patool. The advantage of patool
is its simplicity in handling archive files without having to remember
a myriad of programs and options.

The archive format is determined by the file(1) program and as a
fallback by the archive file extension.

patool supports 7z (.7z), ACE (.ace), ADF (.adf), ALZIP (.alz), APE (.ape),
AR (.a), ARC (.arc), ARJ (.arj), BZIP2 (.bz2),
CAB (.cab), compress (.Z), CPIO (.cpio),
DEB (.deb), DMS (.dms), FLAC (.flac), GZIP (.gz), ISO (.iso), LRZIP (.lrz),
LZH (.lha, .lzh), LZIP (.lz), LZMA (.lzma), LZOP (.lzo), RPM (.rpm),
RAR (.rar), RZIP (.rz), SHN (.shn), TAR (.tar), XZ (.xz), ZIP (.zip, .jar)
and ZOO (.zoo) formats.
It relies on helper applications to handle those archive formats
(for example bzip2 for BZIP2 archives).

The archive formats TAR (.tar), ZIP (.zip), BZIP2 (.bz2) and GZIP (.gz)
are supported natively and do not require helper applications to be
installed.

[Note]
The package is inspired by the atool package. The advantages over atool
are:
- - Support for a lot more formats
- - Support for repacking
- - Support for comparing two archives
- - Support for searching in archives

Bug#452484: dosage: Multiplexing option similar to make -j 4

2013-01-23 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hello,

some more info on why this is tagged wontfix:
- As Tristan already said it would require substantial work to implement this
feature in the program itself.
- The default timeout is now 60 seconds instead of 300 seconds.
- You could split your comic list manually in 4 parts and start dosage four
times in different processes. This should require 5-10 minutes of work.

Regards,
  Bastian

Hi,

installing the newest version breaks curl (and other download tools
using libssl like perl GET) on https://sourceforge.net/
Downgrading to 1.0.0h solves the problem.

Attached are curl --trace outputs with version 1.0.0h and 1.0.1.

Since the SSL error message is not very helpful, I could not match
this problem to any of the existing bugs.
So feel free to ask for more info about this.

Bug#665452: [Pkg-openssl-devel] Bug#665452: libssl1.0.0: breaks HTTPS download of some sites (eg. https://sourceforge.net)

2012-03-24 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hello Kurt,

Am Saturday, 24. March 2012, 12:39:03 schrieb Kurt Roeckx:
And forcing an SSL3 or TLS1 connection using s_client also works.
Can I configure this somehow to be the default for all applications
using libssl?

On the other hand gnutls-cli sourceforge.net does work as
 expected.
Yes, there are some gnutls alternatives. Unfortunately the Perl and
Python https libraries are using libssl. In fact that is when I first
noticed the bug: my custom python script could not login to Sourceforge
anymore.

So I think someone at sourceforge will have to take a look at this.
This upstream bug seems to be the same problem:
http://rt.openssl.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=2771user=guestpass=guest
Unfortunately the developer does not seem to see that as a regression :-/

I guess the best choice for me right now is to keep using v1.0.0h.

  Bastian

Thanks for the hint. Currently I have a script that removes entries from
~/.mrconfig for non-existing directories. The script runs just before my weekly
global mr update via cron.

This way I can just rm -rf manually the repos I don't want to track anymore
and let the config cleanup be done via cron.

Script is attached and it's licensed as public domain if anyone wants to use

Hi,

printing office documents from the commandline is convenient for me,
and LibreOffice supports it with the -p option.

Please consider adding a print command to all mime entries in
/etc/mailcap. Then it is possible to type print office-filename
on the commandline to print the document.

Attached is a small patch adding a print command for LibreOffice
spreadsheets. It can be used as an example for the other office document
types.

Can you tell me the encryption type of your disk?
Either by sending the command used to create the encrypted partition, or by

You can send it also directly to cal...@debian.org if you do not want this
information to be public.

For example like python-sip does it with python-sip-dbg.

Right now, I have to rebuild python-qscintilla2 (and python-sip) with
non-stripped binaries to get a meaningful backtrace under gdb.

this bug is fixed in version 6.5-1 which was just uploaded.
Either install linkchecker 6.5-1 from unstable, or you can wait until it
enters testing.

A quick fix would be to change the xs-python-version in debian/control

To fix the underlying bug however is to solve why the amd64 pbuilder
picked up the python2.4 dependency in the first place.
Perhaps an update to the pbuilder environment helps?

2010-08-25 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

I prepared an update for libhx 1.18 in stable and sent it to the security team
for review. After they give me the go libhx 1.18 in stable will be updated
with the security fix.

Please check whether stable is affected.

 As the commit log says:

So yes, stable is affected (unless somebody was already quick to fix
 it there).

are broken:

Bug#588466: klibc-utils: kernel panic when resume failed and normal boot continues

2010-07-08 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Package: klibc-utils
Version: 1.5.18-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

all my newly built kernels failed to boot with the following message:
[...]
kinit: No resume image, doing normal boot...
E: /scripts/local-premount/resume failed with return 255
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Attached patch fixes the issue by falling back gracefully to normal
booting of the system.

My swap partition is crypted btw:
$ cat /etc/crypttab | grep swap
cswap /dev/mapper/grog-swap_1 /dev/urandomswap
$ cat /etc/fstab | grep swap
/dev/mapper/cswap noneswapsw 0 0

As a sidenote: I do not understand why my system is trying to resume
from a crypted swap artition anyway.
It tries this everytime, even though the system has always been
rebooted cleanly without suspending anything to the swap partition.

Regards,
  Bastian

Bug#586006: initramfs-tools: noisy resume

2010-07-08 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

after reading the Ubuntu bug report I am confused.
In what way is an error message making the boot experience less than optimal?

About the patch: silencing a boot script completely so it cannot print error
or warning message makes the boot experience worse.
I just fixed successfully a kernel panic while booting which was caused by this
resume script (see my other bug report #588466).
So please do not apply this patch. Error and warning messages are useful.

  Bastian

Hi,

the current package has no NEWS.Debian file installed.
In order to have a NEWS.Debian file installed with debhelper,
it has to be named debian/NEWS, not debian/NEWS.Debian.
So just renaming and rebuilding the package should do the job.

Bug#550892: libpam-mount: mounts/unmounts defined mounts when first mounted

2010-05-24 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

perhaps you have the gnome-keyring-daemon configured in your cron PAM file at
/etc/pam.d/cron ?
Then whenever a cron daemon finishes, the gnome-keyring-daemon umounts all (or
just some) removable locations.
The solution in this case would be either to fix gnome-keyring-daemon, or
remove it from the cron PAM config.

  Bastian

Bug#580434: su: dropping privileges before calling pam_close_session() does not play nice with libpam-mount

2010-05-10 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

the title says it all: the su program drops privileges and calls
pam_close_session() without root permissions. This causes bogus
errors in other the pam mould libpam-mount (which needs the permissions
to unmount volumes).

This seems a duplicate of the archived bug #195048, but this bug is rather
old. So I am not reopening, or merging those two.

Bug#568773: linkchecker-gui: Database driver missing as dependency

2010-02-15 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

you can prevent the sqlite driver warning by installing the libqt4-sql-sqlite
package. But it will not prevent this error, which is an old python-sip4 bug.
Newer versions of python-sip4 should fix this.
I'll reassign the bug.

  Bastian

Feel free to propose a better one.
It would be nice to add an entry in debian/NEWS mentioning the switch to
dkms and the need to install kbuild when using the old way of building

If you see messages that indicate that it is not

After installing kbuild the module builds fine, so I guess there
is a missing dependency on kbuild.

Attached is a complete build log.

Bug#550892: libpam-mount: mounts/unmounts defined mounts when first mounted

2009-10-27 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

Am Dienstag, 13. Oktober 2009 23:18:24 schrieb Simon Raven:
Once one of the defined mounts is mounted, it continually unmounts it,
and mounts it again, in a cycle like that, all the time - literally. Day
or night, whether it's busy or not, it'll unmount it, then re-mount it a
bit later. This has been going on since the last upgrade to the
 package.
There is no code in pam_mount that mounts and unmounts in a cycle.
Please turn on debugging in /etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml and have a look
in the system log (var/log/syslog for example) to see which process is causing
these mounts.
You should also use 'ps aufwwx' to find which process are running.
Please mail the system log output and the output of the above ps command to
cal...@debian.org if you need more assistance.

Bug#522969: linkchecker: Still occurs

Hi,

the fix for this bug will be published with the next stable Debian release.
The bug fix will not be backported to the current stable Debian 5.0 Lenny

The bug is usually not reproducible. This error occurs when the HTTP server

You can test this with the following test HTTP server:
testserver.py
import BaseHTTPServer
class BrokenRequestHandler (BaseHTTPServer.BaseHTTPRequestHandler):
def do_GET (self):
self.wfile.write()

Now test the URL http://localhost:8000/; to trigger the error.

Bug#516003: segfault caused by umount.crypt after libpam-mount update

2009-02-24 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi,

Am Friday 20 February 2009 11:50:48 schrieb Wearenotalone:

Was there a mount error without the changes? The options fsk_cipher and
fsk_hash are duplicates of fskeycipher and fskeyhash, so I am wondering why
you added them.

After this unsatisfactory result i updated libpam-mount to version 1.18
Please test with official Debian packages, unless you want to take this
problem to the official mailing list.
I will package libpam-mount 1.10 when there is a safe upgrade path for the
new cmtab code (ie.a fallback to mtab).

But why is a loop device attached to my LUKS partition? Is it not enough
if only the LUKS partition is mounted and not another loop device on top
 of it?
What is your exact setup after mounting? I assume the following

/my/encrypted.img (loop)
  /dev/loop0 (luks)
  /dev/mapper/_my_enrypted_img (loop)
  /dev/loop1

If this is the case, the second /dev/loop1 mount is indeed unneeded.

At the moment i am searching for the place in the sources where the
(second) loop device (/dev/loop1) is attached to my LUKS partition. Do
you have a hint where i could search?
Is this only occuring in the 1.18 codebase, or in 1.10 also?

  Bastian

Hi,

despite sending a proper User-Agent, dosage fails to comply with robots.txt

[1] http://docs.python.org/library/robotparser.html

This is the reason sites like UserFriendly resort to IP address blocking

I retitled the bug accordingly, and set the severity to normal (since
robots.txt is important for screen scrapers).

Run sudo under gdb:

Bug#488099: apt-listbugs: make bug output easier to understand

Package: apt-listbugs
Version: 0.0.89
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi,

I am a user of apt-listbugs and find the idea of listing bugs very
good. One downside is that bugs have to be manually checked to find
out if and how it applies to the current upgrade.

To be more useful, I am suggesting that apt-listbugs prints which bugs
get fixed by installing a new version, which bugs are introduced and
which are unchanged.

Suggested output for package foo:

Upgrading package foo (1.1-1 - 1.2-2) will have bugs ...
fixed:
#11 - foo: displays no output
introduced:
#17 - foo: displays garbled output
unchanged:
#10 - foo: it is not useful

This way, administrators can see easier if an upgrade fixes bugs or
even introduces new problems.

Kind regards,
  Bastian

Bug#486599: libpam-mount: mount.crypt fails since -o has to be at the end of command line

The new version of /etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml uses mount.crypt
instead of mount -t crypt. The command line should be updated too, since -o
has to come last in the command, otherwise the mounting fails
Thanks for the patch. I forwarded it to the upstream mailing list. Either a
new upstream version will come out or I package a new debian release.
Whichever comes first.

Kind regards,
  Bastian
