Bug#601322: Acknowledgement (linux: USB drives not working anymore)

2011-05-15 Thread Benoît Dejean
Hello,

this bug is still here.
I'm running:

ii linux-image-2.6.38-2-amd642.6.38-4
Linux 2.6.38 for 64-bit PCs
ii udev 168-1
/dev/ and hotplug management daemon

My drives otherwise work fine using system-rescue-cd or if i 'modprobe -r
ehci_hcd' (but then to slow to be usable, what's the point of having +1TB
attached at < 1MB/s).

But at the same time, any USB2 key works very fine.
Is there some device discovery timeout ?
Something related to power management ?

Bug#601322: linux: USB drives not working anymore

2010-10-25 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: linux-image-2.6-amd64
Version: 2.6.32+28
Severity: normal
File: linux

Hello,

i have an external Cooler Master USB Drive case where i usually
plug SATA drives. While standard USB keys are working, i can't
get any disk to work for a couple of months.

[ 446.544073] hub 7-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1
[ 518.576063] usb 7-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 10

[ 540.629069] hub 7-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port

I have tried several disks, and they all fail.
But all the disks work fine under a proprietary system on the same computer
on every USB port.

I was previously running an experimental kernel
linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64 2.6.32-5
but it fails too now.

Previously (to what :/) everything worked fine.
I'm a bit worried because i can't do backups anymore.

Thanks.

I've just booted sysrescd with linux-2.6.35 and USB works fine at full
speed.
I can find a more recent kernel in debian, is there somewhere something
newer than 2.6.32 ?

I've tested with a new account.
I first tried with xnet then fast-user-switch-applet but it then failed
back on metacity. So i killed all my sessions before logging into the
new account.

I get the exact same output and no decoration.
I copied all my ~/dotfiles to another computer where compiz works, and
it still works.

Has anyone ever reported compiz to work on !x86 ?

Package: anacron

Hello,

i can see that anacron is not started at boottime if /usr/bin/on_ac_power.
Then it tries to start everyday in /etc/cron.d/anacron at 07H30.
This totally fails. I have just realized that my crontab hasn't been
run for 1 month. So either start anacron at boottime or increase the rate
of /etc/cron.d/anacron.
Thanks.

Only compiz 0.2.2-1 is available on ppc right now.
I have xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-5.
What is the package name for the ati drivers ?

I will try that.

Currently, the situation is mostly the same :
- no window borders
- 100% CPU Usage even when idle
- blurry drawings
- it screws up the gnome desktop selector applet.

Thanks.

yes. After 29H of uptime :
30121000 26468K rw---[ heap ]

It looks like hald is leaking faster when on AC.
I'm using gnome-power-manager to set the cpu governor. AFAIU, hald does
the same thing than powernowd. I think problem started to occur when i
replaced powernowd by hald for setting cpu frequency.

How can i list the addon being used ?
Thanks.

Still unusable.
Switching between desktop takes 5s.
Most of the windows don't have any border / title bar.
Many windows have border corruption, it's hard do describe, but 1cm
around each window, there's an area of crap. I tried to take a
screenshot but the compiz hard locked my computer ...

Bug#431906: berusky: endianness issue

2007-07-07 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: berusky
Version: 1.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #431906

Hello,

the data files are binary and are litte endian.

I understand that a level file is represented by :

typedef struct __attribute__ ((__packed__)) {

   char signum[30];   // -> retezec "Berusky (C) Anakreon 1998"
char back; // -> cislo pozadi
char music;// -> cislo hudby k tomuto levelu
   char rot[5];   // -> natoceni hracu
char rezerved[100];// -> pro pozdejsi pouziti
   word floor[LEVEL_CELLS_Y][LEVEL_CELLS_X][10];// -> podlaha
word level[LEVEL_CELLS_Y][LEVEL_CELLS_X][10]; //-> herni plocha (dnesni
level)
word players[LEVEL_CELLS_Y][LEVEL_CELLS_X];//-> mapa hracu (dneska sou
hraci n levelu)

} LEVEL_DISK;

I can't read cz comments.

Let's hope for the packed attribute to work (some other arch may have
stronger alignment requirements, sparc anyone ?)

I'm attaching a patch to flip floor/level/players. Maybe the rot
member would need to be handled too, i don't know what it is.

I don't know if the array layout is endian-dependent, i only flip the
word. On the first level, easy, the exit is on the bottom left corner.

That problem has been present from the start, it is not compiz 0.5 specific.

Bug#528596: gnome-power-manager: cpu scaling does not work anymore

2009-05-13 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.24.4-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

gnome-power-manager used to work fine with cpufreq-userspace.
Before, as the README.Debian says, members of the powerdev group were allowed
to changed cpufred settings.

But the policy settings seem to have changed. Previously, it was defined in

/etc/dbus-1/system.d/gnome-power-manager.conf

like:

http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/dbus/1.0/busconfig.dtd";>

but this file is gone.

Please advise howto configure dbus perms for gpm and update the Readme.
Thanks

battery (i can't see the UI ... but there definitely are gconf keys).
When on AC, gpm doesn't scale my CPU, so it runs at full speed all the
time. When i unplugg, CPU governor doesn't change to powersave, so CPU
stays at full speed.

OK, mjg59 says that i may not want to use powersave.
On my laptop, using actually means:
- long battery
- less heat
- much less fan noise
- make sure CPU is stuck at low speed.

Which works totally fine ... but that's no autoscaling and it doesn't
switch automatically to powersave.

Bug#529093: gcc-4.3: illegal instruction on ppc

2009-05-17 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: gcc-4.3
Version: 4.3.3-10
Severity: normal

Hello,

on a project, when compiling one file with '-c -O2', gcc dies with:

netspeed.c: In function 'init_quality_pixbufs':
netspeed.c:1691: internal compiler error: Illegal instruction
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See for instructions.

I tried the -save-temps, but gcc dies before that.

The same file works fine with '-c -O0'.

Should i report this directly to upstream or may be there's a problem
in the way debian compiled gcc ?

Bug#363516: explanation needed

2008-05-14 Thread Benoît Dejean
Hello, i have a few questions because the DSA isn't clear whether the
security problem is caused by Debian modification or by the fact that
openssl prng is very bad.

Does the whole openssl security rely on uninitialized memory ?

If yes isn't this bloody naive ?

Shouldn't openssl use /dev/random or stuff like this to get good entropy ?

Does Debian then advise to completely drop openssl because its PRNG is
seeded from uninitialized memory which is not guaranted to be random ?

Thanks.

I haven't set anything. I used to have gcj but switched to cacao because
gcj was broken/incomplete and hasn't work with OOo on ppc for some time
(but used to work #478760). So now i've switched to another vm as you
asked me, you're telling me that i should get back to gij ?

apt-get upgrade
as writer2latex would not install, i've purged it, run again my upgrade
and now i have:

ii openoffice.org-java-common1:2.4.1-6

Then i reinstalled writer2latex, and got this:

Dépaquetage de openoffice.org-writer2latex (à partir
de .../openoffice.org-writer2latex_0.5-8_all.deb) ...
Paramétrage de openoffice.org-writer2latex (0.5-8) ...
Adding
extension /usr/lib/openoffice/share/extension/install/writer2latex.uno.pkg...
unopkg failed.
 done.

Is this OK ?

Thanks.

At the beginning, nothing was set.
Setting this option to either openjdk or java-compat-gcj makes 'unopkg
remove' work and the package installable/removable/etc. unopkg is not
very broken since with cacao-jvm 'unopkg gui' works.

So either cacao is broken or OOo doesn't support cacao or both.

Version: 4.4.0-2

Hello,

I use bash-completion.
When i'm in my ~ and want to run a java program,
i type 'java P' to actually run 'java Prime',
then bash spawns a

find . -type f -path ./P*.class

which takes ~1min to complete and prints as expected './Prime.class'.

stracing find shows than it actually scans my whole home directory

Is it an intented behavior ?
Should i then instead file a bug againt bash-completion ?

Thanks.

Oh, i haven't though about this kind of usage ./P/Q/R/S/T/foo.class.
You are right.

And i don't think the completion should inspect subdirectories.
This becomes a nigthmare on NFS homedirs.

I've tested a bit, but i haven't managed to find it.
I'm getting tired of seeing everything break again and again on ppc
while everything worked fine for years :/ I try to keep my sid updated
but now i know that on every reboot something new would break. Since i
don't reboot very often, it's hard to spot the faulty package.

I'll keep all my xorg packages updated and will inform if the problem
magically goes away ...

See attached trace.

I'm moving to rsync or tar.

Good luck.

I got it from ftp.fr.debian.org.
I found the git-core_1%3a1.5.6-1_powerpc.deb in my cache, extracted it
and the package version links to libcares. Same sha1sum than my
installed git. the sha1sum of my local .deb is also correct. So
reinstalling the package makes do difference.

Bug#476125: xcursor-themes: broken cursor on ppc

2008-04-14 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: xcursor-themes
Version: 1.0.1-5
Severity: important

Hello,

X cursors are now somehow broken on ppc. The affected cursors seems to be
theme-dependant. E.g, with DMZ white, the cross cursor (the + sign on a
spreadsheet) looks horizontally rotated. This could be a signedness issue.

Hello,

When i run in a root shell "aptitude safe-upgrade", it works fine, no
freeze, aptitude outputs normally and immediately.

But if i do from my current user "sudo aptitude safe-upgrade", the
whole system freezes for 5s, then it unlocks and everything gets back
to normal.

The number of waiting processes is quite unusual :/

"sudo date" or "sudo sleep 5" don't freeze the system.

I don't know if this is sudo related or kernel bug, but i've only observed
it with sudo.

Thanks.

Guess what ?
sudo strace aptitude safe-upgrade doesn't have any problem.

I've attached my sudoers file. No DNS names.
I can't think of any DNS issue that would lock all but root processes for 5s.

I've upgraded to 1.6.9p12-1 and can reproduce. Same kind of vmstat output.

Not at all. As you can see in the vmstat output, suddenly and for 5s,
the waiting process queue grows to 20 processes ... everything but root
processes seems to be frozen.

2. File attached.

I don't think there's any problem with the package i'm using.

no, everything is frozen. ^Z won't work until the system gets back to
normal.

a simple Post-Invoke to track /etc in git repository.
I've removed it and can reproduce.

It can't help. System is frozen for 5s, so top is not updated. When it
unlocks, i can only see aptitude jump and stay at the 1st place (wchan =
start), but because it's computing what packages are to be upgraded,
etc.

Thanks anyway.

Bug#428190: mono-jit: patch works

2007-07-21 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: mono-jit
Followup-For: Bug #428190

The patch works but the only Gtk# app that i've been able to run is
gnome-rdp. f-spot crashes on startup while monodevelop crashes after
the splashscreen. tomboy crashes too. I don't know if this is
related.

It use to work months ago, with mono < 1.2

> Could you please also test: gfax, banshee, muine, blame? to get the idea

gfax:
starts and seems to work (although i don't have any modem)
gets SIGSEGV on exit.
gfax /usr/bin/gfax: line 32: 11816 Erreur de segmentation
mono /usr/lib/gfax/gfax.exe $@

banshee:
crashes on startup

blam:
works. i can read feeds.
segfaults on exit. I can't gdb it, i get SIGPWR again and again ...

When mono appeared in sid, some months/years ago, i used to run blam,
muine, f-spot, monodevelop and tomboy. Since then, i was only using
tomboy. Now none of these programs don't work anymore :/

Thanks.

I got it. f-spot works. monodevelop is still broken.

The more i think about it, the best i understand that this whole .Net
stack isn't portable at all because of its huge pile of
native/unsafe/pinvoke crap :/ This is a failure.

Please apply the ppc patch for mono-jit i tested so everyone can get the
fixes.

Thanks.

Bug#426310: Info received (Bug#426310: Acknowledgement (hal: leaks memory))

2007-07-24 Thread Benoît Dejean
I have no idea at what i'm looking at, as valgrind does not report
anything useful. So i'm giving a try to pmu.c as i run a ppc.

I found two leaks in hald/linux/pmu.c:pmu_poll which is a timer
function. The fix is trivial.

As i don't know anything about the leak, i don't know how to reproduce
it. I look at hald memory usage from time to time ...

Bug#474278: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: buggy clicks

2008-04-04 Thread Benoît Dejean
Package: xserver-xorg-input-mouse
Version: 1:1.2.3-2
Severity: important

Since i've upgraded, mouse clicks are totally broken, making the whole
system unusable.

For example, i can't open by doubleclick anything.
When i click on the title bar of a metacity window, it maximizes
as if i had double clicked.

I've tried Emulate3Buttons true and false, it doesn't make any difference.

Replacing SendCoreEvents by CorePointer fixed my mouse.

Thanks you very much.
