Hey,

this is an old bug.

Could you please still reproduce this issue with newer gnome-control-center

cheers,

Bug#670783: linux-image-3.2.0-2-686-pae: Very slow network connection with centrino ultimate on 802.11 N

2012-04-28 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.2.15-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

On Wheezy I'm experiencing very slow network connection under 802.11n with
centrino ultimate:

I've found similar bug reports on redhat and ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/836250
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=708747
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804259

And some report on the backport list:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-backports/2012/02/msg00029.html

Here is a simple ping session showing that disabling 802.11n help a lot:

Bug#663927: python2.7: urllib throws socket.timeout error instead of urllib2.URLError

2012-03-14 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: python2.7
Version: 2.7.3~rc1-1
Severity: important

I get randomly a different error than what should be expected on that
situation. The normal behaviour is to get urllib2.URLError. I often get
a direct socket.timeout error.
I could not reproduce this on python2.4, python2.6 and on a
hand-compiled python2.7.2 on Debian Squeeze.
Another reference of this bug:

Bug#649391: gthumb: Memory leak when exporting to a web album

2011-11-20 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: gthumb
Version: 3:2.13.1-2
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

- take a folder with 3Mb photos
- select 20 or 30 of them
- open the share dialog and choose Web Album...
- check the resize if larger than [1280x1280] checkbox
- click on export...

= the memory consumption raises to very high levels, and the last photos
are not exported at all.
(If I don't check resize, it even crashes)

When exporting 20 or 30 photos to a web album, I see the memory

It occurs when I print to a pdf file as well, and on the print preview. It is

this is due to $ACTIVATE_WITH_POSSIBLE_DATA_LOSS not being defined.
Missing this error should not raise an error.
Btw, where should it be defined?

Bug#477172: laptop-mode-tools: error in hdparm module

2008-04-21 Thread Christophe Combelles

Bart Samwel a écrit :
Could you edit /usr/sbin/laptop_mode and insert a line in this fragment

With this change, I think it should work again. If it does, I'll get a
fix out ASAP.

Yes, that's it, now it works!

Do you have python-defaults 2.5.2-1? If not, please update to it. The previous
version didn't run rtupdate so you may have ended running python2.5 with some
python2.4 modules.

My default python is 2.4.5
But it makes no difference when I start spe with python2.5 or python2.4

This for sure does help. I was looking for the bug there as well, but

Experimental it also happens?

Ok, a few more informations:

- there is no crash on Debian Etch on another machine
- After an upgrade of my Sid to the latest packages, it still crashes
- the exact same crash happens on the pype editor (using wxpython also)
- after upgrading to wx 2.8, there is no more crash.

Bug#468365: gedit: exit with Ctrl-Q does not work

2008-02-28 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: gedit
Version: 2.20.4-1
Severity: normal

the file-quit menu item indicates that the shortcut is Ctrl-Q
the edit-selectAll menu item indicates that the shortcut is Ctrl-A
However, both Ctrl-Q and Ctrl-A do the same thing: select all the text.

I can change the keyboard shortcut while the menu item is selected and I press
another shortcut. If I change the shortcut for QUIT to Ctrl-shift-Q, I
still can't quit gedit. If I change for Ctrl-M, it works.

Bug#454244: tracker-search-tool: unclear option description

2007-12-05 Thread Christophe Combelles
Actually you're right, but I've been playing with tracker for several days
without noticing this per file statement in the title...

I don't know if most people will be as absent-minded as me.

Bug#454244: tracker-search-tool: unclear option description

2007-12-04 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: tracker-search-tool
Version: 0.6.3-3+b1
Severity: normal

In the tracker config file, the option MaxTextToIndex is described
with:
Maximum size of text in bytes to index from a file's text contents

In the tracker-preferences, the same option is described with:
Maximum amount of text to index

The description string omits to tell this option is the maximum text
amount to index **for each file**.
This is not clear in english, and it leads to wrong translations in
other languages.

The text string should rather be something like:
Maximum amount of text to index for each file

Bug#354895: still no Form wizard

2007-01-26 Thread Christophe Combelles

Rene Engelhard a écrit :

Is there anything I can do to help?

Yes, Get (at least) Suns free Javac into sid so I can use that.
OTOH, it seems to work on Fedora, who are using gcj, too, so it might
lie somewhere else and building with Sun doesn't exhibit the problem,
you can help fixing tthis bug before we have the free SUn JDK in sid
with finding out what they do different so that it works for them...

Here are some relevant rh reports:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=56113
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=154919
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=161173
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201497

The 2nd one speaks about an upstream patch that introduced a problem.
I'm not sure that these are related to the current one...

Bug#354895: still no Form wizard

Hi

I've tried the Form Wizard :

- Sun's JRE 5 : nothing happens
- Sun's JRE 6 : nothing happens
- GIJ :  *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0xb5cd4890 ***
  then OOo completely freezes.

Is there a way out for this bug? It's been around for almost 1 year.
Is there anything I can do to help?

Bug#383152: scribus unusable

2006-08-17 Thread Christophe Combelles

Hello,

Scribus is almost completely unusable, because everything in libs is disabled.

- the preferences window cannot be opened
- pdf export is broken
- postscript is broken.
and the MOST important defect:
- the about... window cannot be opened ! (I won't live without that :)

This is probably easy to fix, but this is a major severity.

thanks for your work,

Bug#383443: scribus-ng: Vertical gradient is not vertical

2006-08-17 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: scribus-ng
Version: 1.3.3.3.dfsg-1
Severity: normal

and horizontal gradient is not horizontal.
There is a slope in the gradient, and this is immediately visible.
(create a text frame and apply a color gradient, then make the gradient
narrow)

This is only mentionned in http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=287
but the bugreport is for something else (50% shade), and has been closed as
nofix.
The bug does not appear in the final output, but this breaks the
wysiwygality of scribus...

The bugreport says that the 50% shade problem is is a libart issue, but which
libart issue?
Is there any bug report somewhere?
Is it due to http://www.gnome.org/~mathieu/libart/problems.html ?

Is the gradient slope problem also a libart issue?

(This is also valid for the stable 1.2 branch)

Christophe

Bug#335224: also for Zire 72

2006-04-15 Thread Christophe Combelles
Just to say it would be great to add this vendor id (and others provided in
other bugs).

This not only adds support for Zire 31, but also Zire 72 (same vendor id).

This vendor id is available in the Gnome svn for more than a year!

thanks!

regards
Christophe

Bug#360821: gthumb: lossless jpg rotation slows down exponentialy

2006-04-04 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: gthumb
Version: 3:2.6.9-3
Severity: normal

jpeg lossless rotation is very slow in certain conditions

Take an image of 3000x4000 and it will take a very long time.
There is a huge difference of computing time between 2700 and 2800:

with 1950x2600 : less than a second
with 2025x2700 : less than a second
with 2100x2800 : 20 seconds
with 2175x2900 : 22 seconds
etc...

Another weird behaviour :
rotating the same 2900x2175 image:
from landscape to portrait : less than 1 second
from portrait to landscape : 22 seconds

Bug#358843: webmin-exports: Defaut sync is now: Usually Yes

2006-03-24 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: webmin-exports
Version: 1.180-3
Severity: minor

when configuring an export, the last line is:
Immediately sync all writes? []Yes []No []Default (usually No)

But the default behaviour of nfs-kernel-server is now YES:

  Assuming default behaviour ('sync').

So this small text usually No should be either removed or fixed.

Bug#338307: network problem

2006-03-20 Thread Christophe Combelles

Hello,

I had exactly the same problem,
gnomemeeting freezes when I trie to discover the sound devices,
when I play the test souns in the prefs, or when gnomemeeting itself
tries to play a sound on an event.
And I did an strace of the process (see below).

When looking to my /etc/hosts, I discovered that I was missing a correct ip
hostname line. (removed by a config script)

The ip was wrong, and the freeze is just a network timeout.
If I wait 1 minute or two, gnomemeeting starts responding again.

But why is gnomemeeting doing things with the network while playing sounds ??!!
Is it a problem in alsa ?

Could you confirm that:
- if you wait long enough, the freeze stops
- you have correct entries in /etc/hosts ?
  (one 127.0.0.1 localhost  and one   your_ip your_hostname )

Christophe

Bug#350272: xvnc4viewer: vncviewer man page should mention the syntax for non default port

2006-01-28 Thread Christophe Combelles

Ola Lundqvist a écrit :

obvious.

It do?

I first thought that having the host:display syntax would prevent from
specifying the port, and I just tried host:port:display , thinking maybe it
will work?. And it actually worked, but this is not really documented.
I guessed this after spending some time searching how to specify the port. (-p
option or other...)

Mentionning this syntax in the man page AND in the --help
could save time of many users.

What do it mean when you enter that?

Nothing special, the title speaks about the man page but it would be nice to
specify this syntax also in the --help.

thanks
Christophe

Bug#347615: maybe esd ?

2006-01-23 Thread Christophe Combelles

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem, and I noticed that I can avoid this
long timeout by either :

- unplugging my network cable
or
- disabling esd at startup (in menu desktop-prefs-sound)

Does anyone have a similar behaviour?

It seems esd tries to read the startup sound, and blocks until some
timeout occurs.

Bug#274333: hangs when cups stopped

2005-12-14 Thread Christophe Combelles

Hello,

I've just upgraded the cupsys package.
After upgrading, cupsd did not start because of a misconfiguration.

But the real problem is : gpdf hangs each time I open any PDF file,
and if I restart cups, there is no hangs!

I get the same problem with evince.

Is this related to this bug, or another one?

Is this reported somewhere?

regards
Christophe

Bug#277482: you just have to flush the trash

2005-12-04 Thread Christophe Combelles

I don't agree with this bug.
There is no reason we shouldn't have the benefits of the trash even on
removable media. Maybe this is not very useful on very small ones, but
on large usb or firewire removable harddisks, having a trash is important.
You normally don't have to manually find the .trash directory to erase
your files. When the trash is created on the removable media, you just
have to flush the wastebasket to actually release the space.

Maybe the only remaining problem is:
after doing this, you still have an empty and unuseful .Trash or
.trash-user directory.

So maybe the real bug is: this directory should be deleted when emptied.
(to avoid doing like the Mac: letting a lot of weird and boring files
and directories everywhere it goes, like TheVolumeSettingsFolder,
Network Trash Folder, .AppleDouble, and others...)

Bug#341949: nautilus: impossible to empty the trash because of permissions

2005-12-04 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.10.1-5
Severity: normal

This bug has been reported on Sid'd version of nautilus, but it is also
valid for the Stable version.

Very simple bug, maybe already known (but I didn't find a report)
which is very annoying for desktop users and 100% reproducible:

$ cd ~/Desktop
$ mkdir -p foo/bar
$ touch foo/bar/file
$ chmod -w foo/bar
(real users can do the same thing easily with nautilus, without command
line)
Now drag the foo directory to the trash
And try to flush the trash.

= no permission.

This happens often in real conditions, when users just copy some stuffs
from another directory or media, where one directory was read-only.
Then, there is no easy way to empty the trash. Users must go to their
home, tell nautilus to display hidden files, enter .Trash, find the
readonly dir, change their permissions, then empty the trash. Or users
must type some recursive chmod command. Both are not friendly...

There are three solutions:
- either the foo directory shouldn't be allowed to be moved to the trash
  (but this would be as annoying as before)
- or the files could be chmod'ed when moved to the trash
  (bad, could be long)
- or, better, the trash deletion should just be forced

Bug#335999: ardour-gtk: Please include new french translation for 0.99

Package: ardour-gtk
Version: 0.99-1_gorfou-i686
Severity: normal

The french translation has been improved and 100% finished.
The dev team of ardour will probably not include any patch or anything
before releasing gtk2 version, so it would be nice to provide the new
translation at the distro level.

The provided po file can be msgfmt'ed with no error.
It has been tested on the running ardour,
and reviewed and approved by the initial translator (Alain Fréhel).

thanks!

Bug#334355: It works for me. Did you add yourself to the camera group?

2005-10-26 Thread Christophe Combelles
I just bought today an EOS 350D, and I could retrieve the images
(almost) without any problem.

(athlon usb2 laptop with latest Sid and 2.6.12-k7)

Importing works very well.
After importing I just get some errors while deleting
PTP : reading event an error 0x2002 occured
(I have checked the option delete images after importing)
but the deletion works anyway.

The only pain I had is with the camera group.
I have spent one hour trying to figure out why importing was not working,
and I finaly discovered that libgphoto2 had added a camera group,
and that I was not in this group!

After adding myself to camera everything's ok.

But this is not user-friendly AT ALL !!
Something should be made to warn the user that a new group is being
added, and that some features of the OS will depend on the user being
or not in this group. Maybe a warning should be added in the
postinstall debconf?

The better option would be that libgphoto2 should issue an explicit
warning about PERMISSIONS, the current behaviour (of gtkam, gthumb,
nautilus, etc.) is an inacurate error message (camera not plugged or
not recognized). I guess the error message comes from libgphoto2.

Can the reporter confirm (or not) he forgot to add himself to the
camera group? The 350D seems to be supported since 2.1.5

Ardour debian package has currently no l10n files included.
This was maybe due to ardour's bug not showing translation?

ardour version 0.99 has been released on 24/09/2005,
and it fixes the i18n bug.

po files should/could now be included in the package

thanks

Bug#320190: sl-modem-daemon: hardware naming scheme changed: hw:X - modem:X (NO CARRIER ERROR)

2005-07-27 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: sl-modem-daemon
Version: 2.9.9a-1
Severity: important

Hello,

I'm talking about a Samsung P28 laptop with an ATI IXP winmodem (PCI id =
1002:434d)
This modem is reported to work with slmodem.

I've been spending a whole day to understand why I was always getting a
NO CARRIER error when trying to dial ATDT...
The most common source of error is the Carrier Detect = no option in
wvdial, but this had no effect for me.

I discovered that I had to start slmodemd with the following options to
be able to communicate with the modem:
slmodemd --alsa -c COUNTRY modem:1
instead of:
slmodemd --alsa -c COUNTRY hw:1

This uses the snd_atiixp-modem modules, and doesn't need the slamr
module.

I found this information in the README file of slmodem package (line
228), and using the modem:0 naming scheme is MANDATORY for ATI IXP modems.
So maybe for alsa = 1.0.6, hw should be replaced with modem in the
init script, provided this works with other modems. Otherwise, the modem
type should be detected.

Christophe

Bug#310984: s3switch: Cannot switch to PAL in TV out mode (prosavage8)

2005-05-27 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: s3switch
Version: 0.0.20030423-2
Severity: normal

On a Packard-Bell Easynote E3 with a Prosavage8 chip,
I cannot switch to PAL mode.

NTSC(-j) TV out works well, but I get B/W NTSC display :
I need PAL mode

When I run s3switch tv pal, I get the following:

# ./s3switch tv pal
vm86() failed
return = 0x1
eax = 0x5fbd
ebx = 0x0808
ecx = 0x
edx = 0x000c

Could not set device (vm86 failure)
Devices attached:  CRT LCD TV
Devices active:CRT LCD TV
Current TV format is NTSC

I've tried several things:

- set PAL mode in the Bios
- enabling and disabling UseBios in XF86Config
- enabling TVout and PAL Options in XF86Config
- trying to s3switch without X running
- I also tried adding the following in s3switch's IOaccess function :
  ioperm( 0x71, 1, enable );
  ioperm( 0xed, 1, enable );
  ioperm( 0xeb, 1, enable );
In that case I get no error, but I don't get PAL mode.
It is still stucked in NTSC

I've not seen again this crash for a few months.
It seems everything works for me.
But I haven't tried on a fresh install.

Bug#304842: hal: usb-storage devices are 10 times slower because of sync mode

2005-04-15 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: hal
Version: 0.4.7-3
Severity: normal

there is an option in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/90defaultpolicy/storage-policy.fdi
that sets the sync option for hotplugable devices.
(when automounting with gvm)

This seems to be a good idea to avoid loosing data when unplugging the
device without unmounting BUT:
when you set the sync mode on usb-storage devices (usb keys, etc.),
you get a VERY POOR tranfer rate, often ten times slower than without
the option!

I once wrote a small script to benchmark usb keys transfer rate in sync
mode with several block sizes. More information here:
http://ccomb.free.fr/wiki/wakka.php?wiki=UsbStorageBenchmark

I believe the sync mode should never be used except for debugging cases.
This is like using the sync mode of X... not good for performance and
not for real use.

The problem is: if the device is mounted without sync, with the current
behaviour of Gnome, the user is not warned during the real copy when
unmounting, and there is some time lost while waiting for the copy.

I think a correct behaviour should be:
- hal/gvm should mount WITHOUT the sync mode
- nautilus/gnome-vfs should either :
- popup a window during the unmounting (just like kde), OR (better)
- autoflush the data to the device after a few seconds, while showing
the copy popup window.

- Remove .inkscape to create a clean profile
- start inkscape

I could reproduce also with a circle or any other shape.
there is no crash with a different color (not white or not opaque)
there is no crash with the radial gradient button or pattern button

to the french dictionnary:

Hello,
I have been spending a lot of time to improve the gettext-tools
french po file. The previous file had a lot of errors, typos and
mistranslations.
It would be nice to integrate it as a debian diff, until someone will
ever want to integrate it upstream.

(The file will be attached in the next message)

Bug#298443:

2005-03-07 Thread Christophe Combelles
I fully agree with you.
But the problem is the following :
I did this translation 7 months ago, I have contacted the initial
translator and I posted the file in several lists for reviewing. But it
seems nobody is alive, and the original translator doesn't seem to accept
modifications of the initial (awful) translation, which often seems to come
from an automatic translator. He does not even seem to be subscribed to the
Free Translation Project mailing list...
The initial translator's 0.14.2 translation does not change anything at
all, so I'm also joining the updated 0.14.2 corresponding to the file I posted.

Please note I'm part of the Debian french translation team, and this
translation comes from a request of this list, one year ago.

I'm also registered in the Free Translation Project team, and I've signed
the GNU disclaimer for translation copyright.

Bug#297755: udev: should set scanner device to scanner group

2005-03-03 Thread Christophe Combelles
Marco d'Itri a écrit :

The scanner group is created by libsane.
Maybe the udev rule should be added by this package as well ?

I also have a question : where can I find any documentation on the

corresponds to cdrom ? 6 to scanner ?

I also looked for addgroup in other dpkg install scripts, and there are
several of them. Maybe this could help finding other userful udev rules for
specific usages ?

I have two scsi scanners, that appear as /dev/sg0 and /dev/sg1

In /etc/udev/udev.rules, there is already a rule for scsi cdrom:
BUS=scsi, KERNEL=sg[0-9]*, SYSFS{type}=5, GROUP=cdrom

It would be nice to also have a rule for scsi scanners, such as:
BUS=scsi, KERNEL=sg[0-9]*, SYSFS{type}=6, GROUP=scanner

Don't hesitate to bother me if you want more informations about the
devices, and sorry if this report is a dup or if it has been already filled.

Bug#290629: hdparm: additionnal IDE adapter not optimized at boot

2005-01-15 Thread Christophe Combelles
Package: hdparm
Version: 5.8-1
Severity: normal

One of my systems have an aditionnal PCI IDE adapter (via pdc202xx_new)
I have configured /etc/hparm.conf with:
/dev/hde {
dma=on
interrupt_unmask = on
io32_support = 1
}
/dev/hdg {
dma=on
interrupt_unmask = on
io32_support = 1
}

but hde and hdg are never optimized at boot.
I have to manually run: /etc/init.d/hdparm restart
or hdparm -d 1 /dev/hde
in order to enable DMA on these drives.

I guess the pdc202 module is loaded after hdparm?
or anything else ?

regards
Christophe
