Bug#906304: login: Failure to load desktop after login

2018-08-16 Thread Cody Jackson
Package: login
Version: 1:4.4-4.1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Updating kernal from 4.9.0-6 to 4.9.0-7 using apt-get dist-upgrade

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
My once per month apt-get dist-upgrade

   * What was the outcome of this action?

When I started the OS with the new kernal. I was able to login, but then the
screen went blank indefinitely. I tried shutting down and updating again. I
also submitted a bug report to the kernal team, but it wasn't the right
package.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

The new kernal version to let me log in and use the desktop.

Bug#906141: linux-headers: Fail to load desktop after computer login

2018-08-14 Thread Cody Jackson
Package: linux-headers-4.9.0-7-amd64
Version: 4.9.110-3+deb9u1
Severity: important
File: linux-headers

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

I was updating the linux headers from 4.9.0-6 to 4.9.0-7.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Once every month I run apt-get dist-upgrade. That's what I did in this case.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

The computer will load the headers, I am able to login, but after I enter my
password, the computer screen goes gray, the fan kicks in, and the desktop will
not load. In order to get my computer to work, I have to load the 4.9.0-6
headers.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

My computer to continue to work with the new header.
