Bug#906115: gnucash: Possible ibus interaction problem?

2018-08-29 Thread Darkhorse Winterwolf
Package: gnucash
Version: 1:3.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #906115

I was actually looking around for a possible solution to bug 839159 which I've
started to experience, and ended up installing ibus. After installing ibus, I
get the behaviour described in this bug - any key press on an account entry
will cause gnucash to crash. Removing ibus, it all starts to work again (except
for the issues I'm seeing from bug 839159, but that's a sepoerate thing).

I'm wondering if this might be related to the problem that Michael is seeing in
bug 906115, and whether there might be some kind of compatibility issue there?

All the best,
-DH.

I'm afraid even though I'm the original submitter of this bug, I'm now
unable to test this any further as I no longer have an ScanJet 5300c
unit, sorry.

If anyone who does would like to take ownership of this bug, please feel

Bug#759381: php5: TLS connections broken in 5.6.0 RC4

2014-08-26 Thread Darkhorse Winterwolf
Package: php5-common
Version: 5.6.0~rc4+dfsg-4
Severity: normal

Hello,

I upgraded a number of packages over the weekend, and found that
RoundCube stopped working. After rather a lot of digging around, it seems
I'm not alone, and the problem actually lies with PHP, specifically
version 5.6.0 RC4. Just to check this, RoundCube itself was not updated,
neither was my IMAP server, and by using the same RoundCube version with
an older PHP version, the bug disappears.

The problem appears to be described better than I probably could at this
URL:

http://bugs.horde.org/ticket/13491

At the moment, this breaks RoundCube in Jessie and Sid systems when
connecting to an IMAP server using TLS. It might well break other things
too, but this is what's affecting me. It seems that it should be assigned
to PHP rather than RoundCube from what I've read, but feel free to
reassign if you disagree. Similarly, if I can provide any further
information, just let me know and I'll update the report as soon as
possible.

All the best,
-DH.

Bug#684164: ppp: rp-pppoe 3.11 allows 1500B MTU on PPPoE (RFC4638)

2013-03-15 Thread Darkhorse Winterwolf
Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.5-5.1+b1
Followup-For: Bug #684164

Hello,

Since this bug was originally reported, rp-pppoe 3.11 has been released,
which reports compliance with RFC4638 and so allows 1500B MTU on PPPoE
connections (so long as all the hardware supports the intermediate
Ethernet MTU of 1508B as well).

I grabbed the new source from [1], grabbed the PPP headers from the
Debian source package, and set it off compiling, then dropped the
resulting rp-pppoe.so into /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.5 and re-started my PPPoE
connection. It worked like a charm - the link came back up with a 1500B
MTU straight away (previously, it wouldn't negotiate more than 1492 by
LCP regardless of what was requested in the peer file).

The newly compiled rp-pppoe.so accounts for the debsums warning at the
end of this report, for reference.

The split between rp-pppoe package and ppp seems a little unusual, but I
can see why it might have been done. I think the request to update
rp-pppoe.so from rp-pppoe 3.11 should remain attached to ppp, since the
ppp package carries the resulting binaries. given how easy it was to
just compile against existing headers, I think this fix should be fairly
easy to apply to the official Debian builds, too.

Give me a shout if there's anything I can do to help.

All the best,
-Dave.

Bug#700434: iproute: Flushing routing tables with ID > 2^31 causes all IPv4 routing tables to be flushed

2013-02-12 Thread Darkhorse Winterwolf
Package: iproute
Version: 20120521-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The documentation for "ip" suggests that, when using multiple routing tables,
the table ID can be an arbitrary 32 bit number. I've been writing a script that
calculates a table Id based on an IP addresses and sets up tables accordingly
based on it. This seems to work for everything I've tried except "ip route
flush". If you specify a table to flush with an ID over 2^31, it flushes all
IPv4 routing tables. For example:

# ip route flush table 3232261633

Will delete all routing tables, including the default one. Needless to say,
this is quite annoying. I think this is an upstream bug, but your opinions will
be greatly appreciated.

All the best,
-DH.

Bug#488716: [Pkg-freevo-maint] Bug#488716: Headlines non-functional in freevo 1.8.1-0

I'm afraid I no longer run Freevo on the machine that was causing the
problems - I've changed to another package for a variety of reasons not
relating to this. I have, however, just replicated the setup on a
different machine and the headlines are working well for me with
v1.8.1-2, so as far as I'm concerned I'd be happy for the bug to be
closed, as the problems seems to be a problem with my original
configuration or with v1.8.1-0 (which would be difficult for me to check
right now).

Bug#483805: acpid 1.0.6 only works in debug mode, same configuration for 1.0.4 works perfectly

2008-05-31 Thread Darkhorse Winterwolf
Package: acpid
Version: 1.0.6-9
Severity: important

Hello,

I've just upgraded from acpid 1.0.4-5 to 1.0.6-9 on my media centre
computer, and have run into a bit of a problem. I use acpid to restart
GDM on pressing the power button (a bit odd, I know, but this actually
makes a lot of sense for me on this particular computer). I have only a
single file in /etc/acpi/events - a file called power, which I have
attached for your perusal.

I've had a look through the documentation, and as far as I can tell
there is no reason why this should not work with 1.0.6. I've removed the
/etc/acpi/events/powerbtn file and re-started acpid, as I did for the
1.0.4-5 package.

However, when I pressed the power button, nothing happened. The action
specified in /etc/acpi/events/power didn't get executed, and nothing got
printed to the syslog. Here's the relevant section from the syslog from
re-starting acpid to pressing the power button (it's actually been
pressed several times, just to check that a few events weren't somehow
going missing), as the acpid manpage implies that useful information may
be printed here

>>>
May 31 09:37:25 crush acpid: exiting
May 31 09:37:27 crush acpid: client connected from 14190[0:0]
May 31 09:37:30 crush acpid: client connected from 14190[0:0]
<<<

However, if I now stop acpid using the init script, then run
/usr/sbin/acpid -d, everything works fine. The action is executed, and
the following is observed on the console:

>>>
crush:/etc/acpi/events$ sudo /usr/sbin/acpid -d
acpid: starting up
acpid: parsing conf file /etc/acpi/events/power

acpid: 1 client rule loaded
<<<

However, clearly this is not really a way to be running acpid regularly.
Also, switching back to acpid 1.0.4-5. This is the option I've taken for
the moment.

If you'd like any further information from me, just let me know and
I'll update the bug report as soon as I can.

All the best,
-Dave.

Bug#478173: Additional information for #478173: merkaartor dies on startup

2008-05-15 Thread Darkhorse Winterwolf
Package: merkaartor
Version: 0.0.10-1
Followup-For: Bug #478173

Hello,

I know this bug is marked as confirmed, but I thought it would be
worthwhile adding my experiences, which have a slightly wider range of
symptoms that those described in the original bug report.

For a start, most of the time when starting merkaartor, it dies quickly
just as described by Torsten in his report. For completeness, I've
attached a backtrace of one such crash to this update as "trace" - it
looks fairly similar to Torsten's to me.

The other possibility is that merkaartor starts, allows maps to be
downloaded, but then just as I was about to finish adding a property to
a node (a car park in this case), then merkaartor crashes. This has only
happened twice, with each other time Merkaartor crashing on startup
instead.

When this new behaviour had happened, I was not doing anything
different to the times when it crashed on startup. Unfortunately, I
wasn't running it in a debugger either, and didn't have core dumps
enabled, so don't have a backtrace. In case it's useful, though, I have
attached the output for one of these cases to this update as "output".

If there's any further information I can give or anything else you'd
like me to try out, let me know and I'll add the results to this report.

All the best,
-Dave.

Bug#478574: freevo: Video playback fails under some circumstances from files on removable media

2008-04-29 Thread Darkhorse Winterwolf
Package: freevo
Version: 1.8.0-2
Severity: important

Hello,

I've found a bug that seriously affects the usability of Freevo for me
as someone who uses it purely as a media player without any live TV
input, and mainly from CDs and DVDs. This problem has only appeared with
Freevo 1.8.0-2; when using 1.7.3-1 playing files as described below seems
to work perfectly.

The problem is that under some circumstances, playing video from CD or
DVD fails. When the failure occurs, the screen blanks as if the video
player starts, then the freevo screen re-starts, displaying the parent
to the directory on display when the movie was selected. Interestingly,
it also appears that the CD/DVD has been unmounted when returned to
Freevo.

Most of the files I have that demonstrate this are quite large, so for
now I'm going to try to describe the problem. If it is difficult to
reproduce or if it would be useful anyway, I'd be happy to create
cut-down files that demonstrate the bug and/or images of discs
containing such files that demonstrate the problem.

The problem is not seen for all CDs or DVDs containing video files, just
some of them. So far, the following situations do cause this error of
not playing the video but returning to the menu after a blank screen for
a second or two:

* CD/DVD with one or more directories containing video files.
* CD/DVD with a directory containing a video file and other directories.

These situations do not affect the bug either way:

* The exact filesystem on the DVD.
* The title of the disc.
* Video encoding.

These situations seem to work perfectly:

* Video files in the root of a CD/DVD with no directories.
* Copying a file manually to the hard drive, then playing from there.
* Selecting a directory with just one video file in it (plays
  automatically).
* Video DVDs.
* Anything except for video files (music and images are fine).

I'm perhaps a little unusual in not using Freevo for TV but only for
playing files, and then mainly from CD/DVD, which is why I've just set
the severity of this report to normal to start with. I'll keep trying a
few things to narrow down the problem when I have the time, and will
keep this bug updated. In the mean time, if you'd like any further
information, configuration files or tests performing, feel free to let
me know and I'll post the results as soon as I can.

All the best,
-Dave.

Bug#363751: Unable to reproduce the bug any more

2006-08-13 Thread Darkhorse WinterWolf
Hello,

I've just been going through my open bugs, trying to reproduce each of
the problems to verify that they still exist in current versions. I'm
now using thunderbird package version 1.5.0.4-3. I've turned proxies
back on and tried a variety of requests from RSS feeds, and I cannot
reproduce the bug at all.

Based on this, I can only assume that whatever was causing the problem
has been fixed somewhere between 1.0.6-3 and 1.5.0.4-3. I'm not sure
what the policy on these kinds of fixed without known causes is, but I'd
certainly be happy if you wanted to close this bug. Alternatively, if
there is anything you'd like me to do to try to verify this problems, do
let me know.

All the best,
-Dave.

Bug#363752: Bug has been fixed

2006-08-13 Thread Darkhorse WinterWolf
Hello,

I've just been checking through my list of open bugs, trying to
reproduce each of the problems to verify that they still exist in
current versions. I'm now using thunderbird package version 1.5.0.4-3.

With this version, the manage subscriptions dialog contains all local
folders, displaying all subscriptions hierarchically within the folder
they are stored in. This behaviour is an excellent demonstration that
the bug has been fixed somewhere between 1.0.6-3 and 1.5.0.4-3. I'd be
happy happy if you wanted to close the bug as fixed now.

Thanks very much,
-Dave.

Bug#335198: nethack-console: Starting nethack when the terminal has >255 columns results in bad display

2006-08-05 Thread Darkhorse WinterWolf
Hello again,

I thought I'd add this information even though it may not be
particularly useful - I'm now using nethack-console 3.4.3-8, and I can
report that if the terminal has an integer multiple of 256 columns, the
game segfaults just after startup. For example, with a 256 column × 79
row terminal, you get:

Bug#321753: mozilla-thunderbird: Segmentation fault on reading the second HTML message under certain circumstances

Well, I did try that, but had no problems at all, so I decided to trawl
through the profile removing my configurations a few at a time to try to
narrow down the problem. It eventually became apparent that the problem
stops if I turn off my proxy and let Thunderbird connect to the Internet
directly.

I suppose it could be one of two things: either a problem with
Thunderbird, or a problem with my proxy. The proxy in question is a
fairly standard squid setup running on my network to cache files rather
than as the only means for machines on the LAN to view web pages.

Here are the shortest steps I've found to reproduce:

1: Create a new profile
2: Add RSS News and Blogs account
3: Choose Manage Subscriptions -> Add
4: Enter URL
http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/technology/rss.xml
(for example)
5: Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Connection -> Connection Settings
-> Manual Proxy Configuration
6: Enter proxy details (I use proxy.winterwolf.co.uk port 8080 as a
standard HTTP proxy, but this is not available for use form outside my
LAN. If you need to check this, do get in touch privately and I'll make
arrangements to give you access)
7: Read a few articles

Interestingly, after this initial setup, it took four messages before
Thunderbird crashed.

Hopefully, this helps a bit more in locating the bug. Please do let me
know if there is anything else I can do to help get things tracked down.

All the best,
-Dave.
