Connecting from a 32 bit machine with Remmina or with xtightvncviewer to this
machine (amd64 architecture) does not work.

However, when, before creation of the .vnc dir of the local user,

in the script /usr/bin/tightvncserver, Line 77:

   "/etc/X11/Xsession\n");

is replaced with:

   "gnome-terminal\n");

it connects, the Gnome Terminal appears, and at least some applications work.

The bug is only in Squeeze in amd64 architecture (maybe some others).
It is not in i386 architecture - connecting from the 64 bit machine to the
tightvncserver on the machine with the i386 architecture works fine.

Bug#559049: linux-image-2.6.31-1-686: freezes in connection with xserver-xorg-video-ati / xserver-xorg-video-radeon

2009-12-01 Thread David Moerike
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.31-2
Severity: normal

With respect to bug 552324, Brice Goglin suggests
that it may be a bug in the kernel
- http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=552324#10

When switching to graphics mode (for example when starting Gnome) it freezes
and even switching to the console with Ctrl+Alt+F1 is impossible.

Workaround: Downgrading the Xserver from squeeze to lenny.

Under kernel 2.6.26 it does not happen always but only sometimes.

-- no debconf information

In Squeeze, there often is no sound if the computer has two soundcards and the
second one is used.

In Lenny, there is the same problem. But when this happens, it is fixed by
running alsaconf as root.

In package alsa-utils in Squeeze, there no longer is alsaconf, so the problem
cannot be fixed.

Soution: the alsaconf script must again be built into the package.

Bug#430222: totem-mozilla: Wish to play more than one file on a page, and to play big files

2007-06-23 Thread David Moerike
Package: totem-mozilla
Version: 2.16.5-3
Severity: wishlist

I am planning a web board where big files (mp3 music, mpeg videos etc.) will be
uploaded.

In my local test installation, it works fine, if the web page contains one or
two small ones
(e.g. two mpegs each up to 2 MB).

If a file is larger, and I press the Play button in the Player window
which is in the Iceweasel broswer window,
there comes - immediately or after some time playing, an error message like
this:

Totem konnte
file:///home/david/.mozilla/firefox/viobf2jd.default/Cache/9C370F59d01 nicht
wiedergeben.
(Totem could not play file ...)

Der Ort wurde nicht gefunden.
(Location was not found.)

Same with MP3 music.

If there is more than one video on the page, some of them are black-white.

Same behaviour with epiphany as with Iceweasel/Firefox.

The test page itself is ok, it works fine when called from a Windows machine in
my LAN.

Bug#410649: icedove: Add RSS Feed automatically?

2007-02-12 Thread David Moerike
Package: icedove
Version: 1.5.0.9.dfsg1-1
Severity: wishlist

When in a browser a "mailto:"; Link is clicked, Icedove opens a window to
compose an email. Should something like this
be also possible for a link to a feed?

The idea is: The developer of a page in the web has written a link such as:

rss:http://www.veryclever.com/rss.php?f=0 (for a feed from Forum No. 0 for
example) or
rss:https://www.topsecret.org/rss.php?f=0 (in case of a secure connection).

The user clicks this link. Icedove starts (if not already running), creates an
RSS account (if none exists), and adds
the feed to the account. The user now only needs to click "Get Msgs".

Should, by default, "Beim Programmstart Neue Artikel abrufen" (at launch fetch
new articles) be activated?

Should we also suggest this idea to the developers of the other browsers
(Firefox, Konqueror, Epiphany) and mail
clients (Thunderbird, Kmail, Evolution)?

Or does a feature like this already exist?

What about Atom feeds?

Bug#410646: icedove: Add RSS Feed automatically?

2007-02-12 Thread David Moerike

Package: icedove
Version: 1.5.0.9.dfsg1-1
Severity: wishlist

*** Please type your report below this line ***

When in a browser a "mailto:"; Link is clicked, Icedove opens a window to
compose an email. Should something like this

be also possible for a link to a feed?

The idea is: The developer of a page in the web has written a link such as:

rss:http://www.veryclever.com/rss.php?f=0 (for a feed from Forum No. 0
for example) or

rss:https://www.topsecret.org/rss.php?f=0 (in case of a secure connection).

The user clicks this link. Icedove starts (if not already running),
creates an RSS account (if none exists), and adds

the feed to the account. The user now only needs to click "Get Msgs".

Should, by default, "Beim Programmstart Neue Artikel abrufen" (at launch
fetch new articles) be activated?

Should we also suggest this idea to the developers of the other browsers
(Firefox, Konqueror, Epiphany) and mail

clients (Thunderbird, Kmail, Evolution)?

Or does a feature like this already exist?

What about Atom feeds?

Bug#409442: cdrom: e2fsck on installation cd?

2007-02-03 Thread David Moerike
Package: cdrom
Severity: wishlist

For countries where there often is power failure:

I want to suggest that on normal installation dvds and cds, as well as netinst
cds there is e2fsck in the main
directory. The idea is that after a power failure the user can:

boot the installation cd,
choose "Execute a shell"
enter "cd /cdrom"
and "e2fsck -f -p /dev/..."

Bug#398424: gnome-desktop-environment: Wish grip instead of sound-juicer

2006-11-13 Thread David Moerike
Package: gnome-desktop-environment
Version: 1:2.14.3.2
Severity: wishlist

CD-Ripper: I wish that sound-juicer is taken out of Gnome, and grip (package
grip)
is taken in instead, because it can do more and can call many encoders.

However, I have not yet found out why grip writes on a certain CD
(Omar Sosa, Ayaguna) Musician and Album Unknown,
while sound-juicer correctly writes Omar Sosa, Ayaguna. - Both programs
write Genre Unknown (the Genre is Jazz).
