I've attached both a Debian dpatch and a patch from another distro that resolves this issue. Bug#551927: openoffice.org: application/x-ole-storage mime will not open in openoffice
> Can you please try with 3.1.1-x in either a squeeze or sid chroot? > Just > to find out what is at fault here. I installed Debian Lenny on a virtual machine apt-get install kde iceweasel openoffice.org The email with mime application/x-ole-storage *.doc opened fine in OpenOffice Writer. I then installed openoffice.org from backports. The email with mime Word doc as application/x-ole-storage worked fine. So I'm guessing that somewhere along the upgrade from Debian Sarge=>Etch=>Lenny this mime type broke. As mentioned earlier this work-around-hack-fix works: > > /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/defaults.list > > application/x-ole-storage=openoffice.org-writer.desktop > > I don't have that file at all. It is part of libgnomevfs2-common You can close the bug report. -- Dean Montgomery Network Support Tech./Programmer dmo...@sd73.bc.ca School District #73 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#551927: openoffice.org: application/x-ole-storage mime will not open in openoffice
Package: openoffice.org Version: 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 Severity: important After upgrading to openoffice 3.1.1 - word documents do not open in OpenOffice.org from web-based email due to them being sent as application/x-ole-storage. I've tested it with iceweasel and epiphany-browser. If the file is sent as application/msword, then it opens fine in openoffice.org. Packages also involved with mime types: shared-mime-info libgnomevfs2-common Mime types as application/x-ole-storage worked find with openoffice in debian etch. This is a new problem in debian lenny. To duplicate the problem: * Open up a webmail-based email in Iceweasel. * Find an email with an Word Document attachment that has mimetype set to application/x-ole-storage * When you try to open the file openoffice.org is not an option. I need a fix at the global mimetype level - not at the browser-user-interface level. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-vserver-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages openoffice.org depends on: ii openoffice.org-bas 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-cal 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-cor 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-dra 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-fil 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-imp 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-jav 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-mat 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-off 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii openoffice.org-rep 1:2.4.1+dfsg-1+lenny3 OpenOffice.org Report Builder exte ii openoffice.org-wri 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii ttf-dejavu 2.25-3Metapackage to pull in ttf-dejavu- Versions of packages openoffice.org recommends: ii msttcorefonts 2.7 transitional dummy package ii openoffice.org-filter- 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii ttf-liberation 1.04.93-1 Free fonts with the same metrics a ii ttf-mscorefonts-instal 2.7 Installer for Microsoft TrueType c Versions of packages openoffice.org suggests: ii 1.3.8-1+lenny6 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii 0.10.4-3FFmpeg plugin for GStreamer ii 0.10.7-2+lenny2 GStreamer plugins from the "bad" s ii 0.10.19-2 GStreamer plugins from the "base" ii 0.10.8-4.1~lenny2 GStreamer plugins from the "good" ii 0.10.8-1GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" pn (no description available) ii 1.1.12-1Iceape Navigator (Internet browser ii 2.0.0.22-0lenny1free/unbranded thunderbird mail/ne ii 3.0.6-3 lightweight web browser based on M ii 7:6.3.7.9.dfsg2-1~lenny3image manipulation programs ii 1.0.78-2Java runtime environment using GIJ ii 7.0.3-7 A free implementation of the OpenG ii 1.1.23+nmu1 library for handling paper charact ii 1.0.19-23 API library for scanners ii 1:0.9.4-2 X Rendering Extension client libra ii 2.1.41 generates programs menu for all me ii 2:1.8+1.0.13~pre080323b-0etch3 Transition package for Iceape Navi ii 20071211-1 German dictionary for myspell ii 1:2.4.0-3 English_american dictionary for my ii 1.10-3 Spanish dictionary for myspell ii 1.4-22 The French dictionary for myspell ii 0.99g5-5Russian dictionary for MySpell ii 0.18+dfsg-5 clip art for OpenOffice.org galler ii 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity pn (no description available) ii 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office productivity ii 1:3.1.1-1~bpo50+1 full-featured office pr

Bug#417807: gamin over nfs requires libgamin-dev
Package: gamin Version: 0.1.8-2 Severity: important Gamin was not working for NFS diskless clients. KDE would not show items saved to the desktop, client's menu would not update after adding programs. /etc/gamin/gaminrc had "fsset nfs poll 10". It appears as if gamin over nfs requires libgamin-dev. > Our Schools need /etc/security/group.conf and pam_group to > work with dbus/hal! > > NIS has limitations to the number of users in a group. > It is not possible to add every user to the plugdev group. In our schools every user's primary group is either "students" or "teachers", so I was able to fix this by adding the following to /etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf This will work with the NIS group size limitations. I did not have time to figure out how to use "pam_console" or "at_console" or study all of the dbus docs. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
