Bug#612695: Squeeze installer freeze while detecting hardware (hw-detect)

2011-02-10 Thread Ettore Del Negro
After some further investigation i found the problem was OS version
selection in VirtualBox: by selecting "Debian (64 bit)" instead of
"Debian" the reported problem disappeared.

So this report can be removed/closed.

Bug#612695: Squeeze installer freeze while detecting hardware (hw-detect)

2011-02-10 Thread Ettore Del Negro
I've tried the i386 image
(http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/6.0.0/i386/iso-cd/debian-6.0.0-i386-netinst.iso)
and it works.
This problem only affects amd64 installer.

Machine: VirtualBox 4.0.2-69518 on iMac 27" i7 mid 2010 (64bit boot)
Processor: Intel Core i7
Memory: 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Partitions:

Output of lspci -nn: http://i55.tinypic.com/f098rb.png (i don't know how to
copy text from virtualbox GUI )

Comments/Problems:
Installer hangs on detecting hardware. Tried to run hw-detect from console and
i got the same result (hang).
Here's a screenshot: http://i52.tinypic.com/5e8t9d.png
X.org output: http://i51.tinypic.com/hs5d6x.png
syslog output: http://i56.tinypic.com/11jaluv.png

Another problem: if i try to use any non graphical install method, my keyboard
doesn't work except for get virtual consoles (CMD+F2).

Steps:
1. Selected Graphic Install
2. after selected language/keymap it hangs on detecting hardware
