Yep. It is less the case for files under /etc/init.d/* . Having md5sums for file /etc/iscsi/* is still usefull to find and check local modified conffiles. What is your use case? Maybe I can contribute better if I understand that. Mostly checking/cleaning procedure for an upgrade to wheezy. Quick OS integrity check might be a futur use. Bug#532081: audacious: weird cpu usage since 2.0.1 update
John Lindgren a écrit : William Pitcock wrote: I'm unable to produce this locally. Can you provide more insight? Hello Fabrice, The problem of CPU usage jumping to 100% should be fixed in 2.1: http://hg.atheme.org/audacious/rev/1f583ea81c84 As for the steady 20% usage, I am also unable completely unable to reproduce it. I get 1.5% CPU usage playing a 90kbps .ogg file on a 1.4gHz Celeron (with features such as visualization, equalizer, and resampling disabled). Please attach your config file, in case a particular option is causing the high CPU usage. Also check that ALSA dmix is disabled, as I have known it to take exorbitant amounts of CPU (30-40%) for its resampling. Regards, John Lindgren Hello john and sorry to take so long to answer. As far as I'm concerned, this bug can be closed. I've been running 2.1 for quite some time now without seeing the high cpu usage reported. The cpu usage is under 5% most of the time. particular option is causing the high CPU usage. To place the new system user in a new group with the same ID, use the --group option... --group When combined with --system, a group with the same name and ID as the system user is created. If not combined with --system, a group with the given name is created. This is the default action if the program is invoked as addgroup. And from policy 9.2.2. : 9.2.2. UID and GID classes -- The UID and GID numbers are divided into classes as follows: ... 100-999: Dynamically allocated system users and groups. Packages which need a user or group, but can have this user or group allocated dynamically and differently on each system, should use `adduser --system' to create the group and/or user. `adduser' will check for the existence of the user or group, and if necessary choose an unused id based on the ranges specified in `adduser.conf'. As you can see in the following, there seems to be missing quote/backquote around the call to pidofproc (/etc/init.d/portmap modified with : set -x, a couple of netstat around the pidofproc) : $ sudo /etc/init.d/portmap start + test -f /sbin/portmap + . /lib/lsb/init-functions ++ FANCYTTY= ++ '[' -e /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh ']' ++ true + OPTIONS= + '[' -f /etc/default/portmap ']' + . /etc/default/portmap ++ OPTIONS=-l + case $1 in + log_begin_msg 'Starting portmap daemon...' + '[' -z 'Starting portmap daemon...' It's crude in the meaning of doing a full find when in most case you are looking for $dir/*/cert.db. $ du -sh /home/lorrain/Fab_sid/.mozilla/firefox 4,8G/home/lorrain/Fab_sid/.mozilla/firefox err, maybe you should clean it up a bit to a sane size? I would friendly say None of your business :-p I've been using scrapbook (http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/) for quite some time know. And I started to transform 10 year of printed documentations back to there numerical form with it. I expect to increase the size of my ~/.mozilla. I just did a quick check at work, and out of 900 firefox users, none use more than 200Mo Downgrading this bugreport to a whishlist is fine with me. Fixing this problem for Lenny would be appreciated. No way. Too much a change. Hmmm, have a look at the crude patch provided. Doesn't seem invasive from my viewpoint. A quick fix, could be to check only the first level directory and if no result where found refert to the full find. Huh? Have a look at the patch. Doing a find -maxdepth 2 first, revert to the full search in case you didn't find a cert8.db file. $ find .mozilla -name cert8.db .mozilla/firefox/fpxsk24r.default/cert8.db Because it's in that random string dir you have to use find.. ... Out of curiosity : - What use has OOo with iceweasel cert8.db ? It uses the certificates (using NSS) for XML signing. - Why chose this one in particular (I have also a .mozilla/flock/*/cert8.db) ? It looks for one cert8.db. Whether that's right or not is not the business of the snippet - I know it's too unflexible but we needed a solution to make document signing work out of the box. Hmmm, discovering the need for cert8.db with this BTS, I was wondering if this file shouldn't be a user ressource provided in a central way instead of through ice* packages. Maybe a post-lenny discussion for devel@ or [EMAIL PROTECTED] OOo 3.1 will have reworked code (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=92087), though, which makes the snippet unnecessary. Maybe I'll backport it for 3.0, but for 2.4.1 the train has long left. You maintain the beast, the decision is yours. Bug#434138: Boot failure from software-RAID1 in etch during upgrade to 2.4.24-etchnhalf.1-686
Hello, Through upgrade of our servers, I got biten several times by this bug. This is a sum up : - most of those pb occured while upgrading to 2.6.24-etchnhalf.1 - all the servers are Dell PowerEdges, with / build on /dev/md0=/dev/sd[a,b]2, the disks been SCSI, SAS or SATA2. - Using rootdelay=1 solved the pb on all cases (included the case in my previous report). - All the upgrades path have been : - upgrade to uptodate 2.6.18 (works on all cases except 1 out of ~30 servers) - then upgrade to 2.6.24 on some servers Didn't boot without the fix (PE = PowerEdge): - 2 * PE-1750 - 1 * PE-2800 - 2 PE-2850, one of them didn't boot on the linux-image-2.6.18-6-686-bigmem 2.6.18.dfsg.1-18etch6 - 2.6.18.dfsg.1-22 upgrade (did without -bigmem, did with 2.6.18-bigmem or 2.4.24 with rootdelay=1) - 3 * PE2950 Did boot 2.6.24 without the fix : - 3 * PE-860 (SATA2 for those servers) - 1 * PE-2650 All the server failed at the same stage in the initrd with the following error : ... Failure: failed to start /dev/md0 Attached : - /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf from /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-686 - /conf/md.conf from /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-686 - the bootlog from the PE-2800. In the used initrd /scripts/init-premount/udev has been edited to echo -- in premount and -- out premount. Getting this fixed for lenny would be appreciated. Documenting the pb in http://wiki.debian.org/EtchAndAHalf?highlight=%28EtchAndAHalf%29 might help others. As a side not, I would have appreciated a quick fix with the hard coded sleep [1|2] instead of the undocumented rootdelay approch for etch. Bug#494036: hwclock freeze mac-mini too
Hello, I've the same problem as Gonéri on a mac-mini core2 duo, since my upgrade to 2.6.26-1-686 : - Erratic freeze at boot time during time setting. The last message showing at the console is : Setting the system clock. Checking root file system etc... Setting the system clock. I've always had 2 lines Setting the system clock so I guess the crash happen in S11hwclock.sh. I've less success in reproducing the crash with while true; do hwclock ; sleep 1 ; done. But while true; do hwclock ; sleep1 ; done does every time... Running with hpet=disable seems to fix the problem... so far. For Gonéri, thanks for your complete BTS, it helped. @+, Fab -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#467144: gdmgreeter reports GLib-GObject-CRITICAL at startup
Andrea Vettorello a écrit : After contacting the upstream developer (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=527856), he suggested to check with default themes and at least here (gdm 2.20.5-1) with the three themes I've tried (Circles, Debian MoreBlue and Happy Gnome) there are no errors in the logs. Hello Andrea and thanks for your answers. I wasn't paying full attention to my logs yesterday. After some more thorough tests, there is only one broken theme : Blue Swirl. The following themes work fine : Bijou, Circle, Debblue, Debian Ayo, Debian,Debian MoreBlue, Glass Foot, Hantzley, Industrial, Happy Gnome, Kde Cristal, Linsta. So this bugs could be rename gdm : 'Blue Swirl' theme broken. Concerning upstream questions (I do not use bugzilla, sorry) : GDM shouldn't fail if there is an invalid image, so this is a bug. It's not a bug, GDM doesn't fail or crash, it is just complaining in syslog/daemon.log. Could you please close this bug when you've confirmed that the problem only happens with non-default themes. The pb happen to be only with the 'Blue Swirl' theme. so id=527856 can be close. @+, Fab

Bug#477238: xen-tools: Please, remove /domains directory creation.

Do you have multiple outpus connected enabled when the crash happens? It seems to be related in some cases. Does Option FramebufferCompression false help? Can you try with some other kernels? I sometimes felt like 2.6.18 didn't cause any crash while =2.6.22 does. Not sure about 2.6.24 or later. Brice Hello Brice, and thanks a lot for the information provided. Bug#466085: education-astronomy: Package uninstallable : err 67: Custom distribution education does not exist
Andreas Tille a écrit : On Mon, 18 Feb 2008, Fabrice Lorrain wrote: I could. But I don't think it would made any difference. cdd-common wasn't installed when this pb first occured, I installed it later. Well, the problem occured with 0.824 which was different from 0.825. In principle 0.825 should work _with_ and _without_ cdd-common - provided that cdd-common is cleanly installed. No, the pb was there before I installed cdd-common. Which is not astonishing because 0.824 was broken and at least according to your bug report you tried to install this and failed. So you have some broken packages on your system and I would like to make sure that this does not cause the trouble. This where the trouble is : $ ls -l /etc/cdd/ total 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 425 oct 23 2006 cdd.conf and education-astronomy is clearly expecting something here. Well, the postins says: if [ -d /etc/cdd -a -f /etc/cdd/cdd.conf ] ; then ... so _if_ (and _only_ _if_) cdd-common is installed (/etc/cdd/cdd.conf is part of this package) this is doing anything. So if you want to solve your problem for the moment, just deinstall cdd-common (renaming/ removing /etc/cdd/cdd.conf might help as well) Is a mkdir /etc/cdd/education a correct way to fix it or is there some better way. No, it will not really help. You might do this but then you will need most probably /etc/cdd/education/education.conf as well. Currently the only reason for these config files is to organise user-menus. If you like to test this feature you might like to copy the file /etc/cdd/med/med.conf from med-common or /etc/cdd/science/science.conf into this place. So if you want to solve the installation problem you should either purge cdd-common or move /etc/cdd/cdd.conf to a different place. But you are right there is a remaining problem in the education-* packages because the code in postinst/postrm file is duplicated (which is no harm if there is no /etc/cdd/cdd.conf file at all) and I go back to the next cycle of fixing cdd-dev to fit the need of Debian-Edu. Kind regards Andreas. Hello Andreas, Thanks for your lengthy and very precise explanations. As expected, purging cdd-common fixed the installation pb for the 0.825 versions (forgot LANG=C, sorry): $ sudo dpkg --purge cdd-common (Lecture de la base de données... 570156 fichiers et répertoires déjà installés.) But I don't think it would made any difference. cdd-common wasn't installed when this pb first occured, I installed it later. between these steps. In principle it should not matter whether cdd-common is installed or not but I'm afraid that some broken Installation of cdd-common causes some problem on you machine. No, the pb was there before I installed cdd-common. Setting up education-astronomy (0.825) ... err 67: Custom distribution education does not exist dpkg: error processing education-astronomy (--configure): Are there any files hanging around in /etc/cdd/education on your machine? This where the trouble is : $ ls -l /etc/cdd/ total 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 425 oct 23 2006 cdd.conf and education-astronomy is clearly expecting something here. Is a mkdir /etc/cdd/education a correct way to fix it or is there some better way. Kind regards and thanks for your input Thanks for your quick reply. @+, Fab
Bug#466459: xserver-xorg-video-intel: intel driver loose/crash video at random
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.2.0.90-3 Severity: critical Justification: causes serious data loss Hello, This driver has been unusable on my mac-mini (core 2 duo) since novembre (and on several intel chipset, from other bts entries). It has been crashing X at random resulting in lost of data of the current session and breaking any distants ones. (most notably my ongoing blobwars game ;-) If you feel like downgrading the severity, no lower than serious, please. This driver is not suitable for lenny. As reported by others, since the 2.2.x branch of intel driver, X is going randomly in some suspend mode, and the only way out of it is a plain reboot. Sucks. @+, Fab -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/x11/X.roster: xserver-xorg /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum does not exist.
