Bug#973920: bash: malformed line in changelog.Debian.gz
Package: src:bash Version: 2.01-0 Severity: minor Hello, a malformed line in changelog.Debian.gz triggers a warning when trying to open said changelog inside aptitude. To reproduce it, open aptitude (the ncurses interface), go to the "bash" package and press C (capital C). The warning message is interspersed within the aptitude window, so it can't be pasted here. I can't seem to reproduce it calling aptitude-changelog-parser from the command line. The guilty line seems to be: "-- James Troup Thur, 19 June 1997 19:13:34 +0100" (yes, that's 1997, a whopping 23 years ago). It belongs to bash version 2.01-0, hence the "Version:" header. I suspect that changing "Thur," into "Thu," would fix the issue. Sorry for digging up such an archeological find. Regards, Gabriele Stilli

Bug#933599: musescore: create an upgrade path from 2 to 3
Package: musescore Version: 3.0.3+dfsg1-1 Severity: wishlist Hello, shortly after the release of buster as stable, I upgraded my box from buster to bullseye. I was kind of shocked to discover that musescore was marked as "obsolete or locally created", i.e. not present in bullseye. It took me some time to notice the package renaming from "musescore" to "musescore3" and to find the right piece of changelog documenting it: * Rename binary packages to musescore3{,-common} for coïnstallability (musescore{,-common} 2.x will stay around for buster’s lifetime, and upstream says users should have both in parallel, for existing scores) (from 3.0.3+dfsg1-1, thus the Version: command above) Now, I understand the reason for the change and have no problem myself with the renaming and with installing a new package. I suspect, though, that I wasn't the only user left in the cold and I wonder how many of them know where to look to solve this. Could something be done, at least to better document the change and suggest a solution? Hopefully, at least, people will happen to read this bug and thus find their way out :-) Thanks for the great work! Regards, Gabriele Stilli

Bug#883973: fonts-wine: Please move the ttf/otf fonts to /usr/share/fonts
Package: fonts-wine Followup-For: Bug #883973 Hi, I can confirm the degradation of some web pages after the latest fonts-wine update. Doing a quick search I found, among others, the issues below, which seem related to the problem: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26037 https://jira.reactos.org/browse/CORE-5338 Thanks! Bug#901931: the soundsystem still breaks after todays timidity and timidity-daemon upgrade to 2.14.0-8
Hi, I think the problem is related to the fact that, on a Debian system running pulseaudio, timidity-daemon still tries to add the "timidity" user to the "audio" group. It shouldn't. On such systems (at least those where the pulseaudio daemon is not being run system-wide) the "audio" group should be empty. This is well explained here: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/PerfectSetup/ section «Should users be in the "audio" group?». Emptying the "audio" group and rebooting the box fixed the issue. (To whoever might read: only do this after taking precautions) Hope this helps. Thanks for your work! Cheers, Gabriele :-)
Bug#827039: recommends: lmms-vst-server:i386 but conflicts: lmms:i386
Package: lmms Version: 1.1.3-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, when trying to update lmms from 1.1.3-1+b2 to 1.1.3-3 I get the error message that lmms conflicts with: lmms:i386. However, I just updated to 0.7.20-2 and the insane behaviour seems stopped and the updates work smoothly. Bug#639751: icecast2: postinst doesn't release console after configuration
Package: icecast2 Version: 2.3.2-7 Severity: important Hello, when ENABLE=true, configuring icecast results in dpkg keeping hold of the console and never releasing it. When doing e.g. dpkg-reconfigure icecast2, and answering the questions from debconf, the screen just says: Stopping icecast2: icecast2. Starting icecast2: Starting icecast2 Detaching from the console icecast2. but apparently the daemon is never detached and dpkg never quits. martedì 06 luglio 2010, alle 11:01, Pierre Habouzit scrive: We've understood the bug, it's because binary packages from OOo haven't a consistent version number, as uno is often installed first, it's the version that is used for OOo, sadly the uno version is 1.6.something which is *very* old in the terms of OOo (which is 1:3.something). I do agree with this analysis. I've been hit again by the bug with the last OOo upgrade to squeeze, where I upgraded all the OOo-related packages (including the uno packages) and nothing else (at least in that run). Maybe I'll do some more tests, but it seems that this is the right explaination for the bug. Cheers, Gabriele :-) -- http://poisson.phc.unipi.it/~stilli/ ICQ UIN: 159169930 [HT] Lothlorien F.C. Bug#560329: iceweasel: browsing and form histories disappeared on upgrade
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.5.5-1 Severity: normal Hi, yesterday I upgraded IW from 3.0.14-1 to 3.5.5-1 (I use squeeze); on closing and reopening, after a log time of HD churning and whatnot, I found my whole browsing history and form completions were totally gone. I'm perusing the .sqlite databases with the SQLite Manager extension, but apparently the previous items disappeared for good. What could it be? Bug#550082: [Fwd: latex2html_2008-1_i386.changes REJECTED]
giovedì 08 ottobre 2009, alle 07:35, Roland Stigge scrive: ... see also #521940... Hi, thanks for answering and for all your work. I'd already read that list and I thought the 2008-1 upload had fixed those issues, as per the 2008-1 changelog (that bug was closed by that update). I understand it isn't so. Are all those stoppers still alive? Are there any others? Please check whether changebar , or some more recent variant, is distributed with your LaTeX installation. If so, then it can be omitted from here, as it will be available anyway. changebar.sty is available in texlive-latex-extra in Debian (but maybe you know this) :-) Best, Gabriele :-) -- http://poisson.phc.unipi.it/~stilli/ ICQ UIN: 159169930 [HT] Lothlorien F.C. Bug#415200: iceweasel: crashes on opening preferences
lunedì 20 ottobre 2008, alle 01:37, Alberto Garcia scrive: I was suffering this error too and it disappeared after setting ICEWEASEL_DSP to 'none' in /etc/iceweasel/iceweaselrc (its value was 'auto' before the change). Uh, I almost forgot about this old report :-) I already have ICEWEASEL_DSP set to 'none' (since, long, I guess, but I don't really know). And, if I remember well, the crash disappeared after a reboot and never reappeared. Bug#415200: iceweasel: crashes on opening preferences
lunedì 20 ottobre 2008, alle 02:05, Alberto Garcia scrive: I saw no relation between a crash in the preferences dialog and the audio output driver used by Iceweasel, so it took me a while to try to change that setting (I suspected of many many other things). For the record, I just tried to change the DSP option to auto and the preferences dialog didn't crash. Therefore, this doesn't seem to be the problem. Anyway, that's just my humble opinion, I'm not the reporter nor the maintainer, I'm only a random user :) That mostly agrees with mine :-) Close the bug or tag it unreproducible, hoping that someone else who's hit by the crash comes up with better information than ours :-) Thanks again, Gabriele :-) -- http://poisson.phc.unipi.it/~stilli/ ICQ UIN: 159169930 [HT] Lothlorien F.C. Bug#430132: debreaper: sends bug reports of its own
Package: debreaper Version: 0.2.1 Severity: normal Hi, when amule crashes on me (and it does crash quite often) debreaper does its work of collecting all relevant stack info, then sends the report without prompting me This is quite embarassing for me, as well as annoying for the poor amule maintainer, who had to cope with about 5 identical bug reports in a row (shame on me, OK). To reproduce the bug, simply make amule crash (on my system it crashes if you close about 2-3 search tabs) and pull out the network cable before the bug report is sent :-) By now, this happened only with amule, and not with anything else. How can I stop this, apart from purging debreaper? :-) Thank you, Gabriele :-) -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21camelot (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=it_IT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=it_IT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to it_IT.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages debreaper depends on: ii debconf [debconf 1.5.13 Debian configuration management sy ii emacs21 [mail-re 21.4a+1-5 The GNU Emacs editor ii gdb 6.4.90.dfsg-1 The GNU Debugger ii jed [mail-reader 1:0.99.18+dfsg.1-6 editor for programmers (textmode v ii libc62.5-9+b1GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii mailx [mail-read 1:8.1.2-0.20070424cvs-1 A simple mail user agent ii mutt [mail-reade 1.5.13-3text-based mailreader supporting M ii python 2.4.4-6 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-gtk2 2.10.4-2Python bindings for the GTK+ widge ii python-support 0.6.4 automated rebuilding support for p ii reportbug3.38reports bugs in the Debian distrib ii xdg-utils1.0.1-2 Desktop integration utilities from ii xterm [x-termina 225-1 X terminal emulator debreaper recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * debreaper/use_viaticum: Entire system -- http://poisson.phc.unipi.it/~stilli/ ICQ UIN: 159169930 [HT] Lothlorien F.C. Bug#415200: iceweasel: crashes on opening preferences
sabato 17 marzo 2007, alle 08:42, Mike Hommey scrive: Could you install the iceweasel-dbg package and run iceweasel -g, type run on the prompt you will get, go to your crash and then give us the result for bt full ? Erm... apparently, rebooting the machine solved the problem: Iceweasel doesn't crash anymore on opening preferences. Nothing else changed. Sorry for the hassle. Feel free to close the bug or to ask me for other informations, at your leisure. Just for the record, it all started while I was investigating why mozilla-plugin-vlc was crashing bot Iceweasel and Galeon every *second* time I loaded a file managed by the plugin (any file, be it the same file or different files). At a point, the crash-on-second-load was not so regular anymore (it may crash after more than two files) and the crash-on-preference introduces itself. This morning, on reboot, the preference crashes disappeared, but the VLC plugin (more or less regularly) keeps crashing after two (or more) load/unload cycles. Who know what happened in between. But this will be the subject of another, (I hope) properly documented bug report. Thank you and sorry again.
