Bug#568766: Selection of 3D objects does not work

2010-05-08 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: blender
Severity: normal

Hi,

With the current X and radeon/ati drivers the selection problem doesn't exist
anymore.

I used an older NVIDIA card with the proprietry drivers for a while without
problems.
I just re-installed my radeon card and the problem as described earlier is
gone, both
in blender in unstable and experimental.

There are still some serious performance issues. GLSL doesn't work and
especially
blender 2.5 from experimental is so slow that it is practically unusable.

With the proprietry AMD drivers that can now be installed again everything
works fine
though. So for the time being that is what i'll use.

Yours,
Gerrit Jan.

Bug#572140: it's been more than month, is this still a problem?

2010-05-08 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Hello Andres Cimmarusti,
On Tuesday 13 April 2010 17:04 you wrote:
Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver in sid (also newer
 kernel and mesa)?
Hi,

Today I reinstalled the radeon card. I ran the card for about two hours with
the latest radeon driver and kernel as you described and I haven't seen the
probelm. However my main reason for have a 3D accelerated card in the first
place is blender and I this has still some serious issues with the free
driver, see also my bugreport http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=568766. I was hoping the performance issues were brought
down to an acceptable level but unfortunately, they aren't.

So this will mean I'll be running the proprietry FGLRX drives for the time
being,

Yours,
Gerrit Jan.

Bug#568766: LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 makes blender work

2010-02-28 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: blender
Version: 2.49.2~dfsg-1+b1
Severity: normal

Hi there,

Just some additional info.

Setting LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 will make blender work.

However since there is no 3D acceleration whatsoever, it will
be limited to simple scenes and the game engine/GLSL is mostly
useless.

Yours,
Gerrit Jan.

Bug#568766: blender: Selection of 3D objects does not work

2010-02-17 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Hello Cyril,
On Wednesday 17 February 2010 13:42 you wrote:
I guess that you want to report a bug against your driver then (IIRC
X11-related packages have some bug scripts to collect interesting
data, that's why I'm not reassigning this bugreport right away).

I found a very similar bugreport on the freedesktop bugzilla and added my own
information, see http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24857. Does it
still make sense to create a bugreport against the debian xserver-xorg-video-
radeon and/or libdrm-radeon1 packages?

I'm not sure about the proper course of action here. Lagging behind is
probably not a good idea anyway. And waiting for X stuff to improve is
basically what we've been doing for years; given I don't have much
hardware to test or run benchmarks, it's also difficult to draw the
line and decide when something's usable enough. :(

Well, the current blender 2.5 is an alpha-0 version after all. It is quite
usable, but at the same time it is far from stable and has missing stuff when
compared to 2.49b. So also from that perspective I don't think it is ready
enough. As I understand there will be another alpha in the coming weeks and
then after some time a proper release ( http://www.blendernation.com/blender-
developer-meeting-minutes-february-14-2010 ). The first 'proper' blender with
the new codebase is supposed to be finished by the middle of this year.

Maybe it is a good idea to wait for the first beta before moving to unstable
and hope that the X situation has improved by then...

Thanks,
Gerrit Jan.

Package: blender

The current blender does not allow me to select any objects (right mouse

This could very well be related the graphics card/driver I'm using (radeon 4850

Before I used the nonfree fglrx driver which had no major problems, however

Does this still occur with more recent kernels, e.g. 2.6.30?

U just tried removing pci=nommconf iommu=calgary from my commandline on the
latest (sid) 2.6.30-2 kernel and I get a very sluggish system after that.
While it doesn't completely freeze (at least not in the time i was testing),
you can hardly type on the console, and there are messages about lost
interrupts on the console.

So yes, things are still broken with recent kernels...

2009-05-28 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda

Severity: important

After upgrading from grub2_1.96+20090317-1 to 1.96+20090523-1 my system became
unbootable.

I could boot again after manually changing the root=UUID= lines back to

Bug#494007: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686: In my case adding pci=nomsi makes the system bootable, but ...

2008-11-30 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26-11
Followup-For: Bug #494007

I had exactly the same behaviour when upgrading to 2.6.26. I managed to make my
system
bootable by adding pci=nomsi to the kernel startup line.

However I see the following messages in dmesg:

[ 797.309745] +-- PCI-Express Device Error --+
[ 797.309745] Error Severity : Uncorrected (Non-Fatal)
[ 797.309745] PCIE Bus Error type : Transaction Layer

[ 797.309745] Broadcast error_detected message
[ 797.309745] Broadcast mmio_enabled message
[ 797.309745] Broadcast resume message
[ 797.309745] AER driver successfully recovered

It looks like this error is also related to the console.
For example, an entry is inserted almost everytime a debconf dialog is opened.
And if I run less somefile in a console, and then scroll beyond the
last line I get this message most every 'beep'.

During my struggles to get the system bootable again I noticed that the
current (lenny) installer apparently has similar problems.

I tried to run the console rescue mode, but that results in a blank
screen. However running the graphical rescue mode works just fine.

Please feel free to ask me for more information.

Please feel free to ask me for more information

Bug#492962: wine-bin: winecfg is looking for Mozilla on startup

2008-07-30 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: wine-bin
Version: 1.0.0-1
Severity: normal

On first startup winecfg tries to use mozilla, and fails to
enable 'HTML rendering'.

See output below: (..user.. is the currently logged in user)

$ winecfg
wine: created the configuration directory '/home/..user../.wine'
Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled.
wine: configuration in '/home/..user../.wine' has been updated.

I don't know how bad this is, after this message the configuration dialog pops
up just fine. Feel free to re-prioritise to minor if appropiate.

Bug#440165: libgtk2.0-dev: Has anyone reported this to Adobe?

2007-10-13 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: libgtk2.0-dev
Version: 2.12.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #440165

I may be stupid, but in the reports that refer to this issue I can't
find anyone that forwarded the problem to Adobe.

I've looked in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463773,
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=443399
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=443600

The consensus seems to be the the adobe plugin is at fault, and some developers
can actually pinpoint the problem exactly, so does
Adobe know this?

Bug#436979: stellarium: What about packageing the telescope server(s) too?

2007-08-09 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: stellarium
Version: 0.9.0-1+b1
Severity: wishlist

First, thanks for the effort of packageing stellarium!

I use stellarium to control my Meade telescope, I compile it from the
code in SVN
(https://stellarium.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/stellarium/trunk/telescope_server)

It compiles cleanly on my system and seems to work fine. It would be
handy if the telescope servers were avialable as debian packages.
Probably best as separate packages.

Thanks in advance,

Gerrit Jan Baarda.

Bug#391758: plone-cms: No upgrade path for 2.1 to 2.5

2006-10-08 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: plone-cms
Version: cmfplone
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

After upgrading to plone-2.5 all my 2.1 instaces are gone.

The upgrade causes zope 2.9 to be installed, and updates plone packages in
zope2.8 instances. This leaves a non-functional
system.

The 2.8 instances are now broken, since they have ben upgraded to
packages that need 2.9 or higher, and no attempt is made to migrate plone
sites
to the 2.9 instance.

Ideally, the update of plone/zope should give the option of duplicating
or migrating instances to zope 2.9, but there should at least be a warning that
this
upgrade will break your existing plone sites in a major way.

Keep up the good work,

Gerrit jan

Bug#385575: libgl1-mesa-dri: Is it possible to split up the package into hardware-specific binaries?

2006-09-01 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: libgl1-mesa-dri

Severity: wishlist

The libgl1-mesa-dri i/ckages nstalls 30Mb of files on my system of
which 90% will never be used ( I only have a i915 card). My guess is
this is true for most other systems.

Is it possible to package it more or less like the
xserver-xorg-video-* packages, so that only the modules that are
actually used need to be installed?

Bug#361666: zope-atcontenttypes: zope atcontenttypes should copy atcontenttypes.conf.in to /etc/zope../instance

2006-04-09 Thread Gerrit Jan Baarda
Package: zope-atcontenttypes
Version: 1.0.3-1
Severity: wishlist

To change defaults for AT contenttypes one has to copy
ATCT/etc/atcontenttypes.conf.in to INSTANCE_HOME/etc/atcontenttypes.conf
and edit the file. In the Debian case this can also be
/etc/zopeX.X/instance

Because of the way debian installs instances it is
not obvious where to find this file. The original file is actually in
/usr/share/zope/Products/ATContentTypes/etc/atcontenttypes.conf.in

It would be handy if zope-atcontenttypes would copy this file to
/etc/zopeX.X/instance when running dzhandle.

Or else at least a mention of the file in a README.Debian is in order.

Yours,
Gerrit Jan.
