2009-06-22 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: lvm2
Version: 2.02.44-3

When my machine boots, I get this:
File descriptor 3 (pipe:[9430]) leaked on lvmdiskscan invocation. Parent PID

After it has booted, whenever I give an lv... command, I always get
something like that:

Bug#532804: general: kernel messages appear when they shouldn't on LVM+LUKS systems

2009-06-11 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: general
Severity: minor

Problem reproduction:
Install a debian testing selecting LVM+encryption.
Then, when the system boots, although there is the option quiet for
silencing the kernel messages, after entering the passphrase, you start
seeing kernel messages along with their timestamp on the beginning.

Minor, but I guess those kernel messages should not appear...

Bug#528417: network-manager-kde: network manager does not save vpn option 'use TCP connection'

2009-05-12 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: network-manager-kde
Version: 1:0.7~~svn941706-1
Severity: normal

I created a VPN connection using X509 certs. It failed to work. Then I check
again the options and see that the use TCP connection tick box is unchecked
although I did check it.

Anyway, I can reproduce the problem:

Right click on the icon, edit connections, I select the vpn connection, and
click edit connection. Then on tab optional information, I check the use TCP
connection tick box which is unticked. I press connect and save (or just
save). It fails. Then again, right click on the icon, edit connections, I
select the vpn connection, and click edit connection. Then on tab optional
information, use TCP connection is unchecked again...

Bug#524225: /sbin/mkfs: mkfs: Man page missing description for -cc read-write bad block checking

2009-04-15 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: util-linux
Version: 2.13.1.1-1
Severity: minor
File: /sbin/mkfs

Hello.

There is no mention in the man page of mkfs about the read-write badblock
checking that is performed with switch: -cc

In the man page it says:
-c Check the device for bad blocks before building the file system.

where I think that it should be:

-c Check the device for bad blocks before creating the file system.
If this
option is specified twice, then a slower, read-write test is used instead of
a fast read-only test.

Bug#481104: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] /usr/sbin/update-initramfs: update-initramfs edits /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/cryptroot

Ok, I see the problem.

During the initramfs build, mkinitramfs will ln -s all config files into
the build dir. Later when the cryptsetup hook is executed it will write
config lines to the cryptroot config file in the build dir (which is
linked to the /etc... file outside the build dir).

I'm not 100% sure how we should solve this (why do you have a cryptroot
file by the way? It's supposed to be a cryptsetup internal config file)

If I understood your question well, my answer is this: I have
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/*cryptroot containing the line:

**target=lukspace,source=/dev/hda3,key=none,lvm=vg-root*
because I have my root partition sitting on LVM, which sits on LUKS. So,
somehow the initrd image must know that it has to find a LUKS partition
and ask me for its passphrase.

I hope I'm not talking nonsense. When I tried to set up encrypted root
partition, I used googling, a bit hacking and imagination. So, there is
the possibility that an easier method eludes me.

Cheers,
Giorgos

Bug#261803: pump does not get killed IF you have wpa_supplicant running

2008-03-22 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: pump
Version: 0.8.24-2
Followup-For: Bug #261803

I suspected that the combination of wpa_supplicant and pump creates the
problem, so I conducted the following test:

On a virtual machine, I removed dhcp3-client and installed pump. During
shutdown, all was OK, no error message.

Then I installed wpasupplicant. From that point, during shutdown I started
getting the message from umountroot:
mount: / is busy

because wpa_supplicant and pump were still alive. The point is that without
wpasupplicant installed, pump get's killed just fine. Is it maybe a
wpasupplicant bug?

When I tried the combination of wpasupplicant with dhcp3-client, all was OK.
I'm not a linux guru, but maybe this is an interoperability bug...

Bug#470512: ntfsprogs: unclean unmount during normal shutdown

2008-03-11 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: ntfsprogs
Version: 2.0.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The problem is that the process
ntfsmount /dev/usb-wdc-320gb1 /media/teras

which is running during the time that you have the drive mounted,
is being killed during shutdown before the filesystem is unmounted.

This causes the ntfs file system to close uncleanly and then you cannot mount
it again, unless you do a fs check and correction of problems...

2008-02-16 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: lvm2
Version: 2.02.29-1
Severity: normal

My root fs is on lvm and each time I shutdown, I get this message:

Can't deactivate volume group "vg-main" with 1 open logical volume(s)

It seems it is annoyed by the fact that lvm must be deactivated, but root fs
has not been
unmounted...

Bug#458930: mozilla-mplayer: fails to play the high speed stream

2008-01-03 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: mozilla-mplayer
Version: 3.50-1
Severity: important

In case the stream has both a high speed and a low speed stream, the plugin
plays always the low speed. Example:
Go to: http://www.ert-archives.gr/wpasV2/public/c02-arch-search.aspx
search for 'ορκιστείτε'
press play on one of the available movies and you will see the low speed stream.

If one the other hand you follow this procedure on a windows machine with IE
for example, you will see the high speed stream.

Bug#446609: inconsistent automatically installed status between aptitude show and aptitude search

2007-10-14 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: aptitude

Maybe this is part of a bigger picture but anyway:

I installed using command line aptitude (aptitude install ...) the

Then:

Description: Web browser plugin to execute Java (tm) applets using gij
gcjwebplugin is a little web browser plugin to execute Java (tm) applets. It
is targeted for Mozilla and compatible browsers that support the NPAPI.

The package unconditionally uses the gij runtime.

So, aptitude show reports that the package was automatically installed which
obviously is wrong.

But both aptitude using the UI, and aptitude search report the package as NOT
automatically installed:

mordor:~# aptitude search java-gcj-compat-plugin

Bug#445615: linux-image-2.6.22-2-686: package broke my grub menu.lst file

2007-10-07 Thread Giorgos D. Pallas
Package: linux-image-2.6.22-2-686
Version: 2.6.22-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I had a custom built kernel (2.6.20.10).
This was the conf in the menu.lst file:

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.20.10
root(hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20.10 root=/dev/hda2 ro
savedefault

After installing the stock kernel (linux-image-2.6.22-2-686) this configuration
was changed to:

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.20.10
root(hd0,2)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20.10 root=/dev/hda3 ro
savedefault

And of course the system could not boot since it is installed in the second
partition (/dev/hda2).

The configuration which the stock kernel package generated for it self was also
wrong (it pointed to /dev/hda3, instead of the correct /dev/hda2).

So, I had to manually edit /boot/grub/menu.lst in order to change all (hd0,2)
back to (hd0,1) and all hda3 back to hda2.

I can't really guess why it thought that the system is installed on /dev/hda3...

Problem example:

Greping processes:
root 1874 0.0 0.0 3112 580 ?Ss 00:56 0:00 dhclient3 -pf
/var/run/dhclient.eth2.pid -lf /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.eth2.leases eth2

Then, you give: kill 1874

And of course the process is gone from the process list.

But the /var/run pid file remains there:

mordor:/lib/modules# l /var/run/dh*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2007-02-24 00:56 /var/run/dhclient.eth2.pid
mordor:/lib/modules#

I guess this should not happen. Pid file should be gone...
