Bug#316409: k3b says cdrecord won't run without root privileges on kernel >=2.6.8
Package: k3b Version: 0.12.1-2 Severity: normal After upgrading to k3b 0.12.1: When I run k3b, it prompts a warning message about cdrecord. Bug#396636: libswt3.2-gtk-jni: fails to load mozilla browser
First to explain the new severity: As Guiseppe already said, there are only 3 packages which provide the mozilla-embedding library and neither of those has the a Symbol called NS_InitEmbedding in it, so I think eclipse can't load a browser on _any_ debian system. I found this message: http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/linux-distros-dev/msg00083.html [...] NS_InitEmbedding has been replaced with the dynamically-linked (and much more capable) XRE_InitEmbedding API in XULRunner. We are really pushing XULRunner as the accepted and tested way to embed Mozilla technologies, and it even has Java embedding APIs builtin (e.g. ATF is using it entirely from Java). Bug#403164: about Content-Length response
severity 403164 important thanks I'm raising the severity since this bug is "a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone." I think it's not a debbugs bug: the Content-Lenght response from the server is the right one. I ran these two commands: $ ls gajim_0.11-1_i386.deb | /usr/sbin/apt-listbugs apt -d > ~/listbugs/output 2> ~/listbugs/error $ wget -o wget.log -d -O wget.out -S --header='SOAPAction: ""' --header='Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8' --post-file=post.xml 'http://bugs.donarmstrong.com/cgi-bin/soap.cgi' The last one's log shows: Content-Length: 12353 [...] 20:21:35 (26.93 KB/s) - "wget.out" salvato [12353/12353] And in fact: -rw-r--r-- 1 peppe peppe 12353 2006-12-22 20:21 wget.out Also, that document appears to be valid XML (although I didn't check it with a DTD/Schema). .Display.windowProc(org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.2.1.v3235.jar.so) (That's a little better than a "symbol lookup error", so I feel there's just another little change to do...) For example, I'm seeing that debian/rules sets "MOZILLA_HOME" to /usr/lib/mozilla even if the browser is set to xulrunner... shouldn't it be /usr/lib/xulrunner then? -- Giuseppe D'Angelo pgp2WqFsUANT3.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#360773: reproducible in 2.6.18?
On Mon, 15 Jan 2007, dann frazier wrote: hey Giuseppe, Can you reproduce this with the 2.6.18 kernel in sid? Unfortunately yes: with the latest kernel (2.6.18-3-686) I get: alien:/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq# cat scaling_available_frequencies 2333275 200 While under a kernel <= 2.6.15 I can scale from 333MHz up to 2,66GHz. I don't know if this is due to a bug in my cpu model, and the kernel must do not scale on other frequencies to avoid problems. Under 2.6.15 I'm not experiencing any trobules (the system is stable, DMA works well...). In your opinion can this depend on some microcode related issue? I've installed microcode.ctl and my CPU gets "upgraded" on boot. Does cpufreq modules get loaded before this? Should instead I try to load them after the upgrade? forwarded 360773 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6822 thanks As you said, I tried with both 2.6.19 (version 2.6.19-1~experimental.1~snapshot.8018) and 2.6.20-rc5. Nothing changed, so I went on kernel bugzilla and found that bug, which sounds very similar to mine. --- Giuseppe D'Angelo [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#396636: Still having problems in 3.2.1-4
found 396636 3.2.1-4 severity 396636 normal thanks The bug is still present in version 3.2.1-4, see the attached log; however eclipse now does not crash, but it doesn't use the internal browser because it cannot find the NS_InitXPCOM3 symbol. Actually that symbol isn't defined in /usr/lib/xulrunner/libgtkembedmoz.so but in /usr/lib/xulrunner/libxpcom.so. Why does the "eclipse" script look for libgtkembedmoz.so? That is, Is eclipse opening the wrong library? I'm not sure of the severity of this bug, so I'm setting it to normal. Bug#396636: What about non-PowerPC versions?
severity 403381 normal found 403381 3.2.1-4 reassign 403381 libswt3.2-gtk-jni merge 396636 403381 thanks > This bug exists on non-PowerPC versions as well, e.g., #403381. In fact I'm using eclipse on i386. I think that the two bugs are actually the same bug and their BR can be merged. > The work around, which is to install xulrunner and set > MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/ or perhaps > MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/libgtkembedmoz.so does not work in 3.2.1-3. In 3.2.1-4 this appears as fixed (eclipse uses the library in /usr/lib/xulrunner), however I still cannot use the internal browser. Moreover, eclipse-platform 3.2.1-4 does _not_ depend on xulrunner as changelog says: Package: eclipse-platform Version: 3.2.1-4 Depends: java-gcj-compat | java1-runtime | java2-runtime, java-common (>= 0.23), zenity, zenity | kdebase-bin | xdialog, eclipse-rcp (= 3.2.1-4), liblucene-java (>= 1.4.2), liblucene-java-doc (>= 1.4.2), libjsch-java (>= 0.1.28), libtomcat5.5-java (but I don't know if eclipse _should_ actually depend on xulrunner. I get that link error with xulrunner installed, though.) > I attach a log file. Which isn't showing any bug or crash...! > Furthermore, libgtkembedmoz is available as part of libxul0d as > libgtkembedmoz.so.s0d. As far as I can tell there's no need to download > xulrunner, since downloading xulrunner symlinks to libgtkembedmoz.so.s0d. As I said, libgtk3.2-gtk-jni nor eclipse-platfor don't depend upon xulrunner; instead it recommends libxul0d, which is actually providing both the symlink and the library (/usr/lib/xulrunner/libgtkembedmoz.so and /usr/lib/gtkembedmoz.so.0d). -- Giuseppe D'Angelo pgpX7l1MpNnD3.pgp Description: PGP signature

I think it might not crash at random, however. I believe that you're hitting the original bug #396636 :) Wait just some hour for eclipse 3.2.1-4 (I know, this is an "old" bug) being installed for all architectures and retry without setting anything, and it won't crash! I reopened this bug because even with this fix I can't use yet the internal browser; with an external browser (iceape, iceweasel) eclipse works well. Bug#396636: eclipse: workaround
Package: eclipse Followup-For: Bug #396636 As a simple workaround: You should install package libxul-dev, which actually provides libgtkembedmoz.so as a symlink to /usr/lib/libgtkembedmoz.so.0d shipped by libxul0d (I really don't know if this is a libxul policy violation). Then start eclipse setting MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME to /usr/lib/. In this way you shouldn't hit this bug. --- However perhaps that /usr/bin/eclipse is bugged as well, since it looks for libgtkembedmoz.so in MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME /usr/lib/mozilla/ /usr/lib/firefox/ /usr/lib/xulrunner/ /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/ /usr/lib/mozilla/ (as a side note, in the fourth case (xulrunner), it sets MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME to /usr/lib/firefox (copy and paste error?)). However, searching for libgtkembedmoz.so in packages in unstable on x86 http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?word=libgtkembedmoz.so&searchmode=searchfiles&case=insensitive&version=unstable&arch=i386 gives usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/icedove/libgtkembedmoz.so mail/icedove-dbg usr/lib/icedove/libgtkembedmoz.so mail/icedove usr/lib/libgtkembedmoz.so libdevel/libxul-dev These three paths are not tested in /usr/bin/eclipse script, and maybe this bug occurs if eclipse uses an old libgtkembedmoz.so, for example one in /usr/lib/firefox or in /usr/lib/mozilla? Bug#398465: wodim: doesn't work at all with dev=ATAPI:/dev/xxx syntax
You don't need this ATAPI: prefix with a modern kernel anymore. It will just select the old method which has some limitations that you discovered. Use just dev=/dev/hdc instead. We should implement something to do that automaticaly and advise users to drop ATAPI: prefix in future. That's OK :) BTW, k3b still uses the ATAPI: syntax, and I definitely can't burn any CD from it since the upgrade to wodim. Should we reassign this bug to k3b (or close this one and open a new one)? Bug#390575: kicker: sometimes a panel disappears
Package: kicker Version: 4:3.5.4-2+b2 Severity: important I'm experiencing a strange behaviour of kicker. I use three panels on my desktop (top/left/bottom), and sometimes a panel disappears: if I go to kcontrol -> panels, I find it resized to 1% and placed in the left-bottom corner of the screen. The other two panels continue working perfectly. If I re-place it in its normal position, then it resumes to work. This is a very strange issue because - the panel that disappears is always the "last" one listed in the "Panels" section of kcontrol - it occurs randomly - it occurs on debian sid / kubuntu 6.06 / slackware - it occurs at different users, with different kicker configurations Further, if you have just one panel, hitting this problem and don't knowing that you can use alt+f2 to run kcontrol and reset the panel configuration will cut you out of the K menu, the systray, etc. It's a real pain to explain every time to many users how to reset their panel... -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-2-k7 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages kicker depends on: ii kdebase-data4:3.5.4-2shared data files for the KDE base ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.4-3core libraries and binaries for al ii libacl1 2.2.41-1 Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-22.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr12.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio2 1.8-2The Network Audio System (NAS). Bug#397311: Audio troubles upon DPMS screen power-off
It's not beep-media-player's fault: I can reproduce this strange bug with (at lease) these programs: amarok 1.4.4-0.2 versatile and easy to use audio player for KDE flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.21.55.2 Adobe Flash Player plugin installer mplayer 1.0-rc1-0.0 The Ultimate Movie Player For Linux xmms1.2.10+20061101-1 Versatile X audio player All of them are using ALSA as backend (snd_via82xx driver, kernel 2.6.17-2-k7), and when screen goes blank using DPMS (both manually with xset or by the powersave feature of KDE) a small part of the song begins to be played over and over again and it doesn't stop repeating until I power on the screen (for example by moving the mouse). Bug#364692: xorg: Upgrade to Xorg7 breaks unicode fonts
Package: xorg Version: 1:7.0.14 Severity: important Hi. After upgrading to Xorg 7 I noticed that many applications have no Unicode fonts any more: konqueror, firefox, konsole, gnome-terminal, etc. I found this report http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=364486 and I can confirm it, but it isn't the only application messed up, see this screenshot: http://img276.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap6sj.png I don't know if it is a Xorg issue or it is application-dependent or even widgets/library-dependent. I found that some application is still working well with UTF8 chars (for instance, xchat), many others not. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-k7 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages xorg depends on: ii libgl1-mesa-dri 6.4.1-0.4 A free implementation of the OpenG ii libgl1-mesa-glx [libgl1-mesa- 6.4.1-0.4 A free implementation of the OpenG ii libglu1-mesa 6.4.1-0.4 The OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii xbase-clients 1:7.0.0-4 miscellaneous X clients ii xfonts-100dpi 1:1.0.0-2 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 1:1.0.0-2 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-base 1:1.0.0-3 standard fonts for X ii xfonts-scalable 1:1.0.0-4 scalable fonts for X ii xkb-data 0.8-5 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu ii xserver-xorg 1:7.0.14 the X.Org X server ii xterm 210-3 X terminal emulator ii xutils1:7.0.0-3 X Window System utility programs xorg recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#362851: linux-2.6: sis ide controller 5513 detects and uses wrong udma modes
Package: linux-2.6 Severity: normal Hi. I found that the SiS 5513 IDE controller misdetects bios DMA settings: SIS5513: IDE controller at PCI slot :00:02.5 SIS5513: chipset revision 0 SIS5513: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later SIS5513: SiS 962/963 MuTIOL IDE UDMA133 controller ide0: BM-DMA at 0xff00-0xff07, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:DMA ide1: BM-DMA at 0xff08-0xff0f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:DMA (from dmesg) on both a ECS G733 and a Asus A6Km, that have just hda (disk drive) and hdc (cdrom drive), and no hdb/hdd. Also it misdetects the UDMA mode: dmesg reports hda: 117210240 sectors (60011 MB) w/8192KiB Cache, CHS=65535/16/63, UDMA(33) on both systems - that have two different disks-, but both disks are UDMA133 capable (tested with another mainboard with a VIA ide controller). I don't believe that both laptops have 40-pin ide cables hardwired or so, firstly because the asus is a brand-new laptop, and then also because both bioses shows that disks are actually ultra dma mode 5 capable. I think therefore that it may be a driver bug. I attach the output of dmesg and of lspci -v on the ECS G733. If you want I can send the same from the Asus A6Km. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) :00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 651 Host (rev 02) Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32 Memory at e000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64M] Capabilities: [c0] AGP version 2.0 :00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge (AGP) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode]) Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 64 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=02, sec-latency=0 I/O behind bridge: a000-afff Memory behind bridge: dfd0-dfef Prefetchable memory behind bridge: cfa0-dfbf :00:02.0 ISA bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS962 [MuTIOL Media IO] (rev 14) Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0 :00:02.3 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] FireWire Controller (prog-if 10 [OHCI]) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 185 Memory at dfffb000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] Expansion ROM at dffc [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [64] Power Management version 2 :00:02.5 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE] (prog-if 80 [Master]) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 128 I/O ports at ff00 [size=16] :00:02.6 Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Modem Controller (rev a0) (prog-if 00 [Generic]) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 177 I/O ports at d400 [size=256] I/O ports at d000 [size=128] Capabilities: [48] Power Management version 2 :00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Sound Controller (rev a0) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 177 I/O ports at dc00 [size=256] I/O ports at d800 [size=128] Capabilities: [48] Power Management version 2 :00:03.0 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) (prog-if 10 [OHCI]) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 193 Memory at dfff7000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] :00:03.1 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) (prog-if 10 [OHCI]) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 201 Memory at dfff8000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] :00:03.2 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) (prog-if 10 [OHCI]) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 209 Memory at dfff9000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] :00:03.3 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 2.0 Controller (prog-if 20 [EHCI]) Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems: Unknown device b733 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 217 Memory at dfffa000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 :00:04.0 Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS900 PCI Fast Et
