Bug#1017463: wajig: Please restore automatic installation of bash-completion script

2023-07-07 Thread Graham Williams

Thanks for the report.

This has been fixed in 4.0.12 on https://github.com/gjwgit/wajig and to
be uploaded to Debian repository shortly.

Bug#931519: Wajig update to resolve bug - wajig version 3.2.20

2020-11-13 Thread Graham Williams
Latest version of wajig (3.2.20) on https://github.com/gjwgit/wajig has
resolved the issue. Currently working on an update to Debian repo.

Bug#619854: wajig: Please use gdebi for install of .deb

2011-03-28 Thread Graham Williams
Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking it was the gdebi GUI.

Graham

Bug#619854: wajig: Please use gdebi for install of .deb

2011-03-28 Thread Graham Williams
Does the command line use of gdebi exclude popups appearing? Seems
like a good idea, but I just wonder what changes occur to interactions
with wajig when we use gdebi instead of the current install method? If
none, and we automatically get dependencies when manually installing a
.deb, then yes - we should use it.

Graham

Bug#565303: [wajig] regression: bash completion gone

2010-01-21 Thread Graham Williams
Hi Eike,

Sorry I missed your email closing the bug. Thanks for that.

And thanks for the hint on how you resolved the problem.

Dirk Eddelbuettel has reported the same issue and suggests that it
looks like a dpkg/upgrade issue. Dirk's work around was (for the
record and for those who might also stumble over the bug):

Bug#565303: [wajig] regression: bash completion gone

2010-01-15 Thread Graham Williams
Thanks for the further information. The completion certainly works for me. I
get daily-upgrade when I press tab. I'll check some other installations in
case something went wrong in packaging. If you go back to the old version
does tab completion work again? If not, does tab completion work for other
applications in your shell?

Regards,
Graham

Thanks for the bug report Eike.

I'm not able to repeat this. Bash completion is working on the machines I've
tested. Could you give me some more details please since without being able
to repeat it, it's a little difficult to debug.

2009-10-26 Thread Graham Williams
Thanks for the wishlist report. However, I rely on this functionality
regularly. I think it is in line with wajig being an administrative tool,
not just a package manager. So I'd probably not entertain its removal. Happy
to fix it to work with Ubuntu if you know the fix.

Yes it does. Thanks. It does look like an apt-get
issue. Interestingly, "wajig upgrade" does not seem to try to install
dvdstyler-data (as one might expect given the difference between
upgrade and dist-upgrade).

I'll reassign this to apt-get. I don't see it as a wajig issue as
such.

Is it problematic that the other two packages get installed? At least
dvdstyler is not being upgraded.

Graham

Bug#515874: wajig pretend to install depends of the upgrade version of an hold package

2009-05-01 Thread Graham Williams
Hi Jaime,

Could you provide the sequence of commands or example that exhibits
the bug behaviour and is repeatable. I've not been able to repeat
this yet and without repeatability and a clear demonstration it is
hard to fix.

Thanks,
Graham

Bug#515874: wajig pretend to install depends of the upgrade version of an hold package

2009-04-30 Thread Graham Williams
Hi Jaime,

Thanks for the bug report.

Underneath, the dailyupgrade command is simply doing:

  apt-get --show-upgraded dist-upgrade

so I would guess the same situation is there with apt-get.

Do you think instead this might be a wajig specific problem?

Otherwise could you reassign this to apt-get, perhaps as a wishlist?

Or is there an option to apt-get to get the behaviour you want? That
might be something we could fix wajig with.

Thanks,
Graham

Bug#464003: wajig: "wajig build" tends to fail with permission problems

Hi Tshepang,

Sorry for taking so long .

The problem seems to be that

sudo apt-get source -b cdbs

works but

fakeroot apt-get source -b cdbs

fails.

In wajig I've used fakeroot for the build command. It seems to work
otherwise and does not need system admin. (I try to avoid sysadmin
unless it is really needed.)

I guess this is a case where it is needed, but I wonder why, compared
to other packages.

Do you have any insights about that? Perhaps I just need to use sudo
for all builds. It would be a pity.

Keen to know your suggestion

Regards,
Graham

Bug#432266: wajig: details doesn't work on installed but unavailable packages

Hi Reuben,

I'm looking to close out some long outstanding wajig "bugs."

I'm thinking to close this one - perhaps its a wishlist? Or
would you have some suggested code to update?

Thanks,

Bug#520968: /usr/share/ggobi/plugins assumes ../.. is /usr

2009-03-23 Thread Graham Williams
Package: ggobi
Version: 2.1.8-1
Severity: normal

Hi Dirk,

Maybe a wishlist rather than a bug?

On one of my servers I have /usr/share physcially located on another
partition, with a symlink back to /usr/share (for whatever bizarre
reason actually because I ran out of space on /usr). Not sure
whether that violates a Debian or Linux policy. But plugins are not
found for ggobi:

$ ls -l /usr/share/ggobi/
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2008-10-06 16:54 data
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   23 2008-12-20 15:03 plugins -> ../../lib/ggobi/plugins
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2008-10-06 16:54 share

$ ls -l /usr/share/ggobi/../../
total 168
[...]
drwxrwsr-x 13 root src 4096 2006-09-03 21:55 cvs
drwxrwxr-x 8 www-data staff 4096 2008-10-07 08:09 g2data
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 2008-01-09 05:23 jaya
drwx-- 2 root root 16384 2004-05-18 20:11 lost+found
[...]
drwxr-xr-x 407 root root 12288 2009-02-28 14:18 usrshare
drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 2008-07-11 19:42 var
[...]

That is, there is no lib directory there.

My quick fix is to symlink /usr/lib to here but should the ggobi sym
link be to /usrs/lib/ggobi/plugins, rather than assuming location (or
does that imply other assumpmtions about location?).

Regards,
Graham

Okay. So perhaps that's a dpkg issue? Happy to put submitted code into
wajig to address this if you have some.

I see. Perhaps I will just include the above snippet then for the
"purge-removed" command.

I just use dpkg --purge here. So wajig does not dependency checks. In
fact, doesn't it fail if there are dependencies?

Would this be the same as dpkg --purge --pending?

Bug#483706: wishlist/suggestion: wajig reportbug => reportbug

2008-05-30 Thread Graham Williams
Maybe I need to have an alias so that "reportbug" is the same as "bug"
in wajig, but the command is there:

   wajig bug wine

Bug#459722: wajig: n

Thanks for the bug report Anthony.

This sounds like a bug with python-apt (or something it depends on)
rather than with wajig? It might need to be reassigned/reported to
python-apt. It does look rather grave. What were the dependency errors
that caused python-apt to be removed.

Please let me know if you think this is something that needs repair in
wajig itself.

Graham

Bug#454717: gxine with audio out of sync

2007-12-07 Thread Graham Williams
Package: gxine
Version: 0.5.11-4
Severity: important

gxine has started playing audio out of sync with video.
The audio is 2 seconds behind the video (repeatable).
It was working just fine a few days ago.
Seems to be the same irrespective of source (DVD, DVB, mpeg file)
I have not been able to track it nack to any particular system changes.
I have done some recent distupgrades.
xine and totem continue to work just fine for exactly the same sources.

Graham

Bug#440255: wajig changelog breaks sh due to parenthesis in package name-version string

Hi Jonathon,

Thanks for the bug report below. I'm cleaning up the backlog of bugs
in wajig, and I can't replicate this bug at present. Does it still
happen for you?

Thanks,

Thanks for that Peff. A patch is most welcome.

However, that is certainly very peculiar of egrep. I'm using the same
version and see the opposite behaviour?

sys 0m0.048s

Thanks for the bug report.

I've not been able to repeat. For example:

$ time wajig new
[27 packages]
real0m0.996s
user0m0.784s
sys 0m0.336s
$

Wajig is essentially doing the same as you suggest. I save the list of
packages in ~/.wajig/Available and ~/.wajig/Available.prv. I extract
(in python though) those in one and not in the other. Then list the
results, getting the descriptions from dpkg and print them.

Do you repeatably get the 1 minute execution?

Graham

Thanks Mikhail. That is a very good suggestion. If you had some code
changes to implement this I would be happy to include it. Otherwise it
may be a while before I get a chance to have a look at implementing
it.

Sorry about the trouble Gary. It was my fault again, with some bad
information. You need to do:

$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/wajig.prerm
$ wajig install wajig_2.0.35_all.deb

I previously left off the "info" bit in the remove.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Actually, my fault! Sorry about the bad information. You are
absolutely correct that I missed the "info" bit in the path.

Sorry for that.

Thanks for that Reuben. It makes a lot of sense on both
counts. Indeed, wajig was really only meant to be a wrapper around
other functionality!

I think I will replace the whichpkg and locate functionality with
apt-file.

Graham

Bug#422500: wajig: Please support apt-file

2007-05-06 Thread Graham Williams
Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not sure that the apt-file functionality provides anything more
than what is already in wajig? The locate functionality is called
"whichpkg" in wajig (and perhaps I'll alias it to locate). Is there
other functionality you were looking for that apt-file provides and
wajig does not?

Thanks,
Graham

Bug#396796: wajig: list-commands should group synonyms

2006-11-04 Thread Graham Williams
Just to be a bit clearer - I think the command name rationalisation can
be done relatively easily. The --simulate and --from-file are good ideas
and that'll take time to see how best to incorporate them into the code.
Tested code updates are always welcome :-)

Graham

Thank you for your effort Jeff. I'll reassign this to #381520 in that
case.

Thanks for the additional information Jeff and confirmation of the
problem on AMD64. Without access to such a machine its a little tricky
to debug but I'll see what I can do.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the report. I haven't been able to repeat it yet.

Could you send me the output of "wajig -t dependents wajig". This might
give a hint as to where the seg fault occurs.

Can you run Python from the command line? Like just "python".

Thanks,
Graham

Thanks David. That looks like an issue with dselect rather than wajig.
Wajig does not generate these messages. I believe they are generated by
dselect. I have reassigned the bug report to dselect.

Thanks again Michael. I've not had a chance to explore the new apt. So
for now I've reverted to placing the output of dumpavail into a
temporary file. Not the best solution, but the simplest just at present.

This bug fix will be in 2.0.33 of wajig after I've tested it a bit more.

Graham

Thanks for the bug report Anthony.

(Appologies if anyone got bounces re my email address - catastrophic
failure from my web/email hosting).

Looks a bit of a problem with the new apt. I've not had a look at the
newer python-apt, so any specific pointers are most welcome!

Graham

It seems this is a change in the way apt-get works. Previously, "apt-get
remove --purge" would purge a package even if it had been previously
removed. I've changed the command to call "dpkg --purge".

Bug#359013: gallery2: Work around for G1/G2 upgrade bug

2006-04-12 Thread Graham Williams
Package: gallery2
Version: 2.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #359013

I finally managed to get to the gallery2 site admin page by replacing
gallery/ with gallery2/ in the URL several times. Then I was able to go
to the URL Rewrite module configuation and reactivate the Migration
option. My Gallery is now fully functional again.

It seems that the upgrade killed this option setting.

Thanks for the bug report. I've not seen this problem before. I'll
look for a general solution.

Could you try the following for me:

Thanks. Has it ever worked for you? It looks like a problem with the

Bug#359013: Upgrade to 2.1 breaks gallery2 - mixed /gallery/ and /gallery2/ links?

2006-03-25 Thread Graham Williams
Package: gallery2
Version: 2.1-1
Severity: important

I upgraded from 2.0.4-1. The web-based upgrade appeared to work just
fine.

Visiting /gallery2/ I can login, visit an album but then thumbnails are
not found and links go to /gallery/ instead of /gallery2/ and are not
found! If I can select an album, but I don't get thumbnails, but I do get
everything else. But click on a sub album and it takes me to a
/gallery/ link that does note exist. If I manually change /gallery/ to
/gallery2/ in the URL text entry of the browser (epiphany), it works for
that page, except for the thumbnails, but further links to /gallery/
fail?

I have two aliases defined in apache.conf:

  Alias /gallery /usr/share/gallery2
  Alias /gallery2 /usr/share/gallery2

Previous upgrades have all worked just fine.

My mysql backup compared to current mysqldump has quite a few structural
changes, eg:

*** gallery2_060325.sql Sat Mar 25 19:12:50 2006
--- gallery2_060326.sql Sun Mar 26 07:52:14 2006
***
*** 25,26
- `g_userId` int(11) default NULL,
- `g_groupId` int(11) default NULL,
--- 24
***
*** 28
! UNIQUE KEY `g_accessListId` (`g_accessListId`,`g_userId`,`g_groupId`),
--- 26,27
! `g_userOrGroupId` int(11) NOT NULL default '0',
! PRIMARY KEY (`g_accessListId`,`g_userOrGroupId`),
***

etc., but perhaps due to the 2.0 to 2.1 version diff (I don't see such
significant changes from the 2.0.3 to 2.0.4 dumps).

Basically, my Gallery is kaput.

Regards,
Graham

Bug#347919: wajig: "toupgrade" shows no output nor error if run as non-root user

Hi Calum,

Thank you for the bug report. I can't yet see what the problem is.

Could you do a "wajig update" priori to the "wajig toupgrade" (as the
user and separately as root) and let me know again the output of the
two "wajig toupgrade"s.

Thanks,
Graham

Bug#346022: gnubiff: Stops reporting new mail afte a little time

2006-01-04 Thread Graham Williams
Package: gnubiff
Version: 2.1.8-1
Severity: normal

I've been having this problem for some time, trying to find a
pattern to the behaviour - no success yet

Gnubiff works fine on startup and then for a few hours after
this, but then it stops noticing new email - i.e., the icon
does not change from "no mail" and a single click does not
bring up any new messages.

All the rest of its functionality works just fine.

My setup: debian, sid, gnome, Maildir mailbox (~/Maildir),
running 'gnome-terminal -t "Mutt" -e mutt' on double click,
permanently connected to the Internet. I don't think I've changed
any other options. Mail is filtered through procmail before ending
up in my Maildir new mailbox.

Regards,
Graham

Could you show me the output of "wajig -t source ..." so I might

Thanks for the thinking behind this David.

Yes, the aim is that you should not have to know much about what wajig
does under the bonnet, and hope that it just does the right thing!

I guess, as I say, I could add the found site to the sources.list file
but I do think that even a user of wajig probably needs to understand
a little bit about the sources.list file and that they can use this to
tune where they download their packages from. The central security
archive is usually there by default anyhow.

I've added the following to the documentation just before the section
titled "FINDING PACKAGES" - does this help?

There are quite a few archives available and you can test for a good
connection to one with:

  $ wajig netselect-apt

This will write a candidate sources.list in the current directory,
which you can then review and add to the system sources.list, if you
wish, with

  $ wajig edit-sources

Thank you again for your interest in wajig. And let me know if there
are other improvements that would help someone new to Debian.

Regards,
Graham

Bug#332822: wajig search-apt writes to the current working directory instead of /etc/apt/

Hi David,

Thanks for the bug report.

I'm not sure why you think it might be a "critical" bug. It doesn't
render the system unusable. In fact, if it did overwrite sources.list
then I might even consider that a critical bug instead.

The behaviour you report is how it is specifically implemented. I did
not want to accidently overwrite /etc/apt/sources.list. The purpose of
this command, as the description indicates, is to find local Debian
archives SUITABLE FOR sources.list, rather than TO REPLACE
CURRENT. Thus it creates a suggested sources.list file which it writes
into wherever you run the command.

In fact, this command does no more than to run the netselect-apt
command. If the resulting sources.list looks okay to you then you can
go ahead and cut and past the entry you want into the system version
(perhaps using wajig editsources).

I could add the extra functionality to automatically overwrite the
system sources.list but that does seem a little dangerous to me, since
many people fine tune their sources.list and overwritting it would be
a surprise.

I will close the bug with this email.

Let me know if you don't agree with the rationale.

Regards,
Graham

Bug#329882: apt-get source priorities changed in newer version?

2005-09-24 Thread Graham Williams
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.41
Severity: normal

Since the upgrade of apt (supporting gpg) into unstable, after the
release of 3.1, my local archive no longer works? I've tried tracking
the problem down on and off over the past few weeks but to no
avail. Not sure if this is an apt problem or a problem with my
archive, but it used to work and I don't think I have changed how my
archive is managed (with apt-move).

I've cut my sources.list to just two sources: mine and debian.

I remove a small package from my system:

# apt-get remove most

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  most
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives.
After unpacking 111kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
(Reading database ... 264409 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing most ...

I do an UPDATE

# apt-get update

I check where policy thinks I should get the package from:

  Version table:
 4.10.2-1 0
500 http://togaware.redirectme.net unstable/main Packages
500 http://ftp.debian.org unstable/main Packages

Yet when I install it goes to debian, not togaware:

# apt-get install most

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  most
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded.

Unpacking most (from .../most_4.10.2-1_i386.deb) ...

Why is it retrieving the package from http://ftp.debian.org rather than
http://togaware.redirectme.net?

Graham

Bug#328782: wajig: add experimental

2005-09-18 Thread Graham Williams
Hi David,

Thanks for the suggestion.

But I would put this one outside the scope of wajig. The UNOFFICIAL
command queries www.apt-get.org and you are probably able to request
there that the experimental package archive be included in their
list.

Bug#322323: wajig: use aptitude instead of apt-get sometimes

Thanks Karl. I believe apt-get remove --purge used to purge
deinstalled config files, but some quick testing now seems to indicate
that it does not - but then for the same packages dpkg --purge doesn't
seem to be purging either. I'll have to investigate some more, unless
you have specific examples of where it works in one and not the other.

2005-08-10 Thread Graham Williams
Thanks Karl. I did use aptitude for a while but it did not interact
so well with apt-get and for various reasons I reverted to apt-get.
you will find various comments in the code relating to the issues with
aptitude. There will also be some discussion of this over the years in
the BTS. Perhaps the issues have been fixed, but I am hesitant to move
to aptitude unless there was a good reason to do so.

Thanks Karl. I've been playing with a few ideas. None are really
satisfactory yet. I'm trying to avoid the temporary file path, but
maybe I can't, in the end. Currently I've gone back to your solution
of doing a "sudo -v" if there is a pipe and then the sudo substitute
for each part of a pipe. At least this will mostly be the same
behaviour, and will fix the problem you identified.

Again, I'll test this out for a little while before uploading.

Graham

Thanks Karl. I can repeat the error now. It is indeed very ugly!!!

I'm looking to see if I can use something like:

command = setroot + " sh -c '%s'" % command

for the sudo commands, instead of

command = setroot + " " + command.replace("|", "| %s " % setroot)

It is working on the limited testing I've done but need more testing.

If you get a chance, could you check if that fixes it for you.

Thanks,
Graham

Thank you for the bug report. I am currently attempting to replicate

to have downgraded apt-get lately?

Thanks Karl. I'll have another think about this. Perhaps the tmpfiles
is a solution.

Thanks. But I was more wondering how the problem manifests itself.
What happened that caused you to submit a bug report? I don't think
I've ever noticed a problem with these pipes.

Hi Karl,

After some testing, a problem with the proposed solution is that a
user may have sudo set up with the NOPASSWD option for certain
commands. "sudo -v" requires the password unconditionally, thus not
matching the user's configuration.

So I think I need to go back to the specific example where the
previous behaviour of wajig has a problem. could you give me an
example of using wajig where it has a problem with the previous
behaviour.

Thanks,
Graham

Thanks Karl. I'll include this in the next release.

Thanks for the bug report Karl. Yes, this seems like it could be a
problem. I've had a look for places where I might be doing such a
pipe. Do you have any examples where this arises?

Thanks for the suggestion John. Has been implemented as VERSIONS and
will be in wajig version 2.0.30.

Bug#316492: apt-move: A work-around

2005-07-09 Thread Graham Williams
Package: apt-move
Version: 4.2.23
Followup-For: Bug #316492

I had the same problem. Seems like the new apt provides
libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5-3.9 and apt-move requires
libapt-pkg-libc6.3-5-3.3.

My fix was:

  wajig source apt-move
  cd apt-move-4.2.23
  wajig build apt-move
  wajig install apt-move_4.2.23_i386.deb

Not sure why this should have worked - if this is the actual
source of apt-move

Hi John,

Thanks for the bug report. The error was in the ++ in the pattern
being searched for, and these had to be replaced with %2B. Now works
in 2.0.29 - soon to hit the archives (and already at
http://wajig.sarovar.org/debian/)

Bug#314730: wajig: Install new or newupgrade packages

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not quite sure I see the use of it!
You could achieve it with the following:

wajig new | tail +3 | cut -d' ' -f1 | xargs wajig install

or

wajig newupgrades | tail +3 | cut -d' ' -f1 | xargs wajig install

... it does need extra work and knowledge of the Linux tools.

For "new" would you really want to install all of the new packages at
any time? I simply cut and past the ones I want onto the command
line.

For "newupgrades" why would you want to do this rather than
"distupgrade"?

They are both easy enough to implement, and as a user you obviously
would find it useful. So I'll do it! Would like to understand how you
find them useful though and I'll document it.

Regards,
Graham

Hi David,

Thanks for the report. I've recently started using apt-listbugs but
haven't yet bailed out! I'll have a look to see if I can capture the
exit gracefully in wajig.

Yes I do use udev. I had a bit of a look around for any errors but
didn't see anything. I used to use hwtools to run hdparm and that is
at S60 and never had a problem with it there. I am not familiar with
the corruption problem though.

If you can suggest anything I can do to help track down the issue,
happy to do so.

2005-06-10 Thread Graham Williams
Package: hdparm
Version: 6.1-2
Severity: minor

I'm using "hdparm -a8 -u" on /dev/hda (a CD/DVD).
I need to do this so that DVD viewing is smooth
(at least this is a solution that works) .

Wanted to maintain this over a reboot.
Editted /etc/hdparm.conf as suggested in README.Debian
Symlinked /etc/init.d/hdparm to /etc/rcS.d/S29hdparm.second
Reboot and hdparm settings not taken

Changing to later in init: /etc/rcS.d/S39hdparm.second
Reboot and hdparm settings have taken!

Thanks for the suggestion August. I've added support for the
following:

$ wajig dist-upgrade experimental

That is, an optional argument to dist-upgrade where you can list the
distribution. This then calls

$ apt-get -u -t experimental dist-upgrade

This will be in the next release (2.0.27).
