Bug#704073: [multipath-tools-boot] error when update-initramfs

I can't see a reason why this would fail. I suspect it to be an
initramfs problem.

Looks like /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/multipath is
missing the PREREQ/prereqs header (see e.g. initramfs-tools(8)), so
set this up (so the script works also outside the initramfs) and
*then* use . /scripts/functions.

Guy,

I have prepared a deb package with the fix based on feedback from
Michael. Do you have resources to test this?

http://people.debian.org/~rrs/tmp/bug.704073/

Hi,

Thank you Ritesh,
I don't know how to test those packages. I try dpkg -i *deb
but multipath-tools refuse to upgrade because / is
multipathed ...

I can make some tests, my server is not a production server ...

Hello Guy,

can you try to downgrade your libnss3 package as Giacomo has done and
reported in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=692886?
Maybe it's the same bug.

And can you make a some logs to see what happend inside icedove?

You will need to make your own source package with that
patch applied and build it for both i386 and amd64.
The patch not applied cleanly for the file debian/control :

$ dpkg-source -x libmad_0.15.1b-7.dsc

Bug#688325: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#688325: [schroot] I can't mount usb key with schroot

2012-09-23 Thread Guy Roussin
I can not mount a USB key under /media because
 they belong to root.

How can i achieve this ?

The same way as you would on the host system, especially since the
files under /dev/ are bind mounted from the host. This is not, I
think, something that schroot itself should cater for. Tools like
pmount and more recent tools used by common desktop environments
 for mounting removable media should work inside the chroot as well;
particuarly when using the desktop profile. If there's anything
we can add to that profile to make desktop removable media
support work better, then we can certainly look at adding that.

 Regards,
 Roger

Thank you Roger,
But this is what i get with pmount (i use the desktop profile) :

guy@pcplat53:~$ pmount /dev/sdb1
guy@pcplat53:~$ pumount /dev/sdb1
guy@pcplat53:~$ schroot -c precise
(precise)guy@pcplat53:~$ pmount /dev/sdb1
Error: could not open fstab-type file: No such file or directory
(precise)guy@pcplat53:~$

This is ok with the host but not with the schroot

Bug#675763: gnome-settings-daemon: gnome-setting-daemon segfaults in libmouse.so

2012-09-23 Thread Guy Roussin
Hi,

I can reproduce the same bug on my EeePC 1005HA. Maybe it is a
specific bug relative to these netbooks models.

No i use a Dell Latitude D420 and the bug is present.
With this notebook i can't upgrade to amd64 ...

So, i need to remove ~/.config/dconf/user to work around the bug.
So i make a copy of this file (~/.config/dconf/user.ok) before
the error occur. This way i don't loose all the configuration
for the user.
I think we can't edit this file without X (dconf-editor) ?
Is the bug reported to upstream ?

Thank you,

Guy

You should not use my patch, it only unnecessarily complicates things by
splitting the package. The original patch by Andreas is fine, it's just
waiting for someone to apply it.

I compiled the packages with that patch and use them successfully for a
month now, you can find them at http://www.ralfj.de/upload/debian/ - but
use them at your own risk only!

 Kind regards,

Bug#686489: [libgl1-nvidia-alternatives] can't install libgl1-nvidia-alternatives:i386

2012-09-04 Thread Guy Roussin
glx-alternative-nvidia, which is the current version, is tagged
 Multi-Arch: foreign.

nvidia-alternative is the more interesting package here and it is M-A:
foreign, too. That's sufficient to install the native version of
nvidia-alternative. (And you probably can't install
 nvidia-alternative:i386 on amd64)

Oh, doh, right. I forgot that M-A: foreign stops the architecture chain
and allows further dependencies to be satisfied by the other architecture.
So yes, I'm not sure why you'd need to install the i386 version of that
 package on amd64 either.

Ok,
I thought it was necessary to install this package to have wine and
googleearth on a debian sid amd64 multiarch. But I could be wrong.
I am miserably stuck at not being able to use these softwares.

Thank you,

Guy

but 304.37-1 is to be installed.
 libgl1-nvidia-alternatives:i386 : Conflicts: libgl1-nvidia-alternatives
but 304.37-1 is installed.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

 Remove the following packages:
1) libgl1-nvidia-alternatives
2) libgl1-nvidia-glx
3) nvidia-alternative
4) nvidia-glx
5) xserver-xorg-video-nvidia

 Leave the following dependencies unresolved:
6) nvidia-kernel-dkms recommends nvidia-glx (= 304.37)
7) nvidia-settings recommends libgl1-nvidia-glx
8) nvidia-xconfig recommends libgl1-nvidia-glx-any

Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?]

Is there a workaround ? This problem prevent me to intall a lot
of software (googleearth, wine, ...)

Bug#679861: [iceweasel] EOL Error on copy/paste

2012-07-02 Thread Guy Roussin

Package: iceweasel
Version: 13.0.1-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

I notice that when i copy and paste the sample code
from this url (for example) :
http://www.elektrosoft.it/tutorials/hbqt/hbqt.asp
in linux editors (vi, vim, gvim, gedit, kile) the eol is not
interpreted. For example, I get this for the first sample:

PROCEDURE Main () LOCAL oWnd oWnd := QMainWindow()
oWnd:setWindowTitle(Finestra di Giovanni) oWnd:resize(300,200)
oWnd:show() QApplication():exec() RETURN

I test the same with opera, chromium, google chrome, epiphany
and there is no problem with eol

NB: i test with --safe-mode and removing ~/.mozilla/firefox/

Thank you,

Guy

Perhaps you can wait for 1.14.3 with more fixes ?

Thank you to upgrade before wheezy stable ...

Hi,

I get a crash on debian squeeze when i try to mount a xfs device after
applying uquota in /etc/fstab :
/dev/xvda3 /users xfs defaults,noatime,nodiratime,uquota 0 0
There is around 1Tb on /users and 400 users

It is a debian squeeze amd64 domU (2 cores, 3Gb RAM)
If i upgrade the Ram to 12Gb there is no more hang for this domU

2012-02-06 Thread Guy Roussin

Sorry for the late feedback but 3.2.4 come only today on my laptop
And it works fine now !
Thank you
Guy

Hence closing, though information either way about whether the fix
works would still be very welcome. ;-)

Thanks for the quick feedback,

Bug#658221: [gdm3] Can't start gdm3 anymore

2012-02-01 Thread Guy Roussin

Hi,

After an upgrade of my debian sid amd64 yesterday, i can't
start gdm3 anymore this morning (failed). This is what i do
to fix the problem :
cd /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
ln -s ../libaudit.so.1.0.0 libaudit.so.0

I don’t know what happened, but if you regularly do things like that to
your system, they are most likely the cause of your problem.

never.

The output of “ldd -r /usr/sbin/gdm3” (without your “workaround”) should
contain the relevant information to understand what’s happening.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=658153
i remove my workaround and upgrade ... now all is fine.

Bug#658294: [3.1 - 3.2.2 regression] No more sound

2012-02-01 Thread Guy Roussin

Is there always trouble, or only when docked or after a suspend/resume
cycle? Can you hear sound through headphones? Does fiddling with any
of the knobs in alsamixer help? (You may have to press F6 first to
make sure you are setting the controls for the ALSA device rather than
pulseaudio.)

Thank you Jonathan,
yes i notice the trouble is *only* with dock lineout and kernel 3.2.
No problem with integrated loudspeaker or laptop lineout.
I also test kernel 3.3rc2 and is fine with dock lineout, integrated
loudspeaker and laptop lineout

Bug#657342: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#657342: [alsa-utils] alsamixer segmentation fault

2012-01-26 Thread Guy Roussin

Hi,

Thank you Elimar for the rapid answer

$ LANG=C ; alsamixer

protection ip:7f1b8c903fd0 sp:7fffa61e3c80 error:0 in
libasound.so.2.0.0[7f1b8c8ba000+eb000]

Hmm, this looks more like a hardware failure
Did this happens within X? Try to reinstall alsa-utils. Are there
more applications which give a segfault? Defect RAM?

I reinstall alsa-utils and libasound2 but i get the same error.
This is the only error i see in dmesg.
I test the memory for half an hour with Dell tools from the laptop
bios (latitude e6420) but no ram errors.
When i run alsamixer with strace the last access file is
/var/run/gdm3/auth-for-guy-IhSTSE/database

I notice that after /etc/init.d/gdm3 stop, alsamixer
works fine in a console.

Hi,

So it looks like problems with gnome or other wm's. This isn't a bug

I install lynx-cur and lynx runs fine...

Bug#651526: [gnome-shell] Wake up from suspend is very difficult

2011-12-13 Thread Guy Roussin

Hi,

I notice the problem is relative to my user. If i create a new user,
there is no problem with suspend with this new user (sometimes the

logscreen is slow to appear).
No need to alt f2 r anymore. I suppose this is related to the upgrade
from gnome2 to gnome3 or perhaps the use of some option of
gnome-shell-extensions on my sid ?

Bug#651526: [gnome-shell] Wake up from suspend is very difficult

2011-12-09 Thread Guy Roussin

Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.2.1-7+b1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

When i open my laptop after suspend. The logscreen screen is very
very slow to open. Very slow to display keys of my password.
After that, i can't see the screen of my desktop (only the first line),
i need to press alt-f2 r enter 3 or 4 times and sometimes i can
see my desktop screen .
But, most time i need to switch to a console and reboot my laptop.
Is there a way from text console to do the same as alt f2 r ?
in .xsession-errors i have some of these lines :
[1323419115,000,gkbd-status.c:gkbd_status_set_current_page_for_group/]
Page for group 0 is not ready

Note that when i use xfce4 on this laptop i don't have this kind of
errors

Thank you,

Guy

Bug#649416: [gnome-shell] After some clics the screen hang

2011-11-20 Thread Guy Roussin

Hi,

I notice that i can reproduce the bug (screen hang) when i click
for example on the menu help/about from gnome terminal.

I fix the problem with a gnome-shell (3.2.1-4) upgrade from
experimental with something like this :
aptitude install gnome-shell=3.2.1-4
evolution-data-server-common=3.2.1-1 evolution-data-server=3.2.1-1
libebackend-1.2-1=3.2.1-1 evolution=3.2.1-1 libevolution=3.2.1-1
evolution-common=3.2.1-1 libgtkhtml-4.0-0=4.2.1-1
libgtkhtml-4.0-common=4.2.1-1 libgtkhtml-editor-4.0-0=4.2.1-1
evolution-plugins=3.2.1-1 evolution-exchange=3.2.1-1

No this bug is gone after an hour of tests ...

I think you can mark the bug as fixed :-)

Thank.

Guy

Bug#646900: [multipath-tools] Errors when Boot On SAN (IBM DS4700)

2011-10-28 Thread Guy Roussin

Package: multipath-tools
Version: 0.4.8+git0.761c66f-9
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

We have some servers (blade IBM HS21/HS22) with Boot On SAN on IBM DS4700 with
debian lenny amd64.
Very fine since some years.
http://www.tchetch.net/wiki/debian/multipath_ibm_ds4000

Now, we want to upgrade to squeeze. The upgrade is fine but i get
multipath problem on the first stage (initrd) so i suppose there is
some problem for initrd an multipath on squeeze.
Finally the server boot (but very long time). I want to fix this behavior.

Is there somebody Boot On SAN with squeeze ?

Thank You

Guy Roussin

I follow http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Debian and install all
from repository.

The standby seems ok but i can't wakeup ! Sometime even if i press
the power button more than 10 seconds i can't power off the laptop.
Even if i can power off the computer, when i reboot i have nothing on
the screen (no bios ...)
I need to remove the power cord and the battery to power on again !

Since upgrade to 2.6.32-20 (i think 2.6.32-19 is safe)
my laptop do not wakeup in standby mode (blank screen).
I need to press 5 seconds the power button to restart.
Downgrade to squeeze linux-image version 2.6.32-18 and
now all is fine again.

My laptop is Dell Latitude D630. I use proprietary video
nvidia driver (*)

Can you reproduce this if you don't use the nvidia driver?

I remove all nvidia stuff (all packages related to nvidia)
upgrade to linux-image-2.6-686 version 2.6.32-20, install
xserver-xorg-video-all and use 'nouveau' driver.
I try the standby mode 4 or 5 times with success.

2-6-32-18 + nvidia = ok
2-6-32-20 + nvidia = not ok
2-6-32-20 + nouveau = ok

I can make other tests if necessary,

Thank you Ben.

I test with squeeze and sid (i686) and i get the same problem.

Note that i can cd and cat invisible files and dir if i
know their names (i can't see them with ls) ! The problem
do not occur with smbclient or nautilus with smb://server/share,
only with mount.cifs

Please retest with 2.6.32-19 from unstable, -5 is quite old.

Cheers,
 Moritz

I made some more tests using snapshot.debian.org:
linux-image-2.6.30-2-686-bigmem: (2.6.30-8squeeze1) is OK
linux-image-2.6.31-1-686-bigmem: (2.6.31-2) is NOT OK

All linux-image-2-6-32 i test are NOT OK.
even kernel 2.6.32 from ubuntu 10.04 is NOT OK
2.6.34 from experimental is NOT OK

It seems to me that kernel after 2.6.30 (2.6.3[1234], ) are NOT OK

I can make more tests if necessary.
Perhaps we can increase the severity of the bug ?

Thank you

I test with 2.6.32-19 today (*) on a debian sid (i686). The problem is still
there.
I test also with an old 2.6.32 version (2.6.32-8) : same problem.
With 2.6.26-21 and 2.6.26-24 (from lenny) on this same host (debian sid i686)
there is no problem : i can see all files and directories.

Thank you,

Bug#550196: [DebianGIS-dev] Bug#550196: libgrass_edit.so: cannot open shared object file

2009-10-09 Thread Guy Roussin

Version: 6.4.0~rc5-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

(i create it before). And i click on Projection values button
and i get this error :

If you wish to resize the X monitor, do so now. Window size is
locked while interactive modules are running.

Would you please check what's your ld.so.conf (and subdirs) contents?
At least with current grass in sid it works perfectly.

Yes grass works fine in sid.

In my student config (debian lenny) the file /etc/ld.so.conf.d/grass.conf
is missing. Now i add it, reboot and all is fine with grass.
I don't know why this file is missing ...

echo /usr/lib/grass64/lib /etc/ld.so.conf.d/grass.conf
and reboot

Thank you Francesco,

That's wrong. You don't need /usr/lib/grass64/lib to run grass. If you need that
that's something definitively wrong with your setup. This is at least as strange
as the X monitor warning at startup. This is not an official backports for
lenny,
isn't it?

Bug#550196: [DebianGIS-dev] Bug#550196: libgrass_edit.so: cannot open shared object file

2009-10-08 Thread Guy Roussin

Hi Francesco,

Package: grass
Version: 6.4.0~rc5-3
Severity: normal

I run grass in gui mode. I select an empty GIS data Directory
(i create it before). And i click on Projection values button
and i get this error :

Do you mean without a controlling xterminal? Did you start it from menu?

I run a gnome-terminal and it's what i do :

$ cd
$ mkdir grassdata
$ grass

Hi have the WELCOME TO GRASS in text mode, i hit RETURN and the
the graphical interface of grass come up (tcltk?). I must select the GIS
data directory (i select /homeL/localu/grassdata), i click OK

Then, i click the Projection values button and i get immediatly the error
i reported in text mode (not a graphic (tcltk?) windows) :

=
If you wish to resize the X monitor, do so now. Window size is
locked while interactive modules are running.
=

/usr/lib/grass64/etc/set_data: error while loading shared libraries:
libgrass_edit.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

ERROR: /usr/lib/grass64/etc/set_data exited abnormally. Press enter to
continue.

Generally, this is due to a missing wrapper call. I cannot reproduce it
without the exact specification of how did you start grass.

If i run grass64, grass, grass -gui, grass -tcltk i get the
same results.

But if i run grass in text mode grass -text there is no errors ...

Thank you

Bug#404346: vino-server segmentation fault

2006-12-25 Thread Guy Roussin
Hi,

I think i found the origin of the vino-server segfault.
I have this line in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf :
Option XkbVariantoss

Now i change the line to :
Option XkbVariantlatin9

and there is no vino-server segfault anymore !

Here the InputDevice Section, i suppose with
this you can reproduce the segfault :

Section InputDevice
Identifier Generic Keyboard
Driver kbd
Option CoreKeyboard
Option XkbRules xorg
Option XkbModel pc105
Option XkbLayout fr
Option XkbVariantoss
EndSection

Thank you.

Do you have any libs in /usr/local/?
I have only libdrm (i need 2.3.0 for my video card)

 Otherwise, please follow
  http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace
and report a backtrace of the
  crash with debugging symbols.
I follow the guideline and i get this backtrace :

Weird but interesting. The crash happens very near this upstream
  change:
 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=77801
  (from GNOME #369884 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369884)

Could you try this upstream patch? If it fixes the segfault, I can
  pull it easily.

Yes i try the patch but it doen't fix the crash :-(

I try also this patch but again without success (same crash):
2005-11-16 Mark McLoughlin [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Fix crash with unicode mapped keysyms (bug #321516)
Patch from Gary Coady [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* server/vino-input.c: update VINO_IS_LATIN1_KEYSYM
to not match keysyms with byte 4 set.

If it doesn't and you have the time to, you can try
building the upstream CVS of vino to see whether your bug is already
fixed upstream (I don't experience it myself), and if it is extract a
patch: this might make it possible to push the change in Debian before
  the release of etch.
I have time but i don't know the process to build upstream CVS of vino.
Perhaps you can give some hints. Then i give it a try ?

PS: I'll be on holidays for a week starting tonight.
Thank you Loïc and good holidays :-)
