Bug#596670: unblock: perdition/1.19~rc3-1

Severity: normal

Please unblock package perdition

Perdition 1.19~rc4-1 includes several important fixes and I would like it
considered for inclusion in Squeeze. As it coincides with an upstream
release (1.19-rc4) it also contains one or two (minor) changes that don't
strictly meet the criteria for the freeze. All such changes are minor. And
are mainly changes that were committed upstream before the freeze hardened.
As both the upstream and Debian maintainer I would be most grateful if
these could be let through.

An annotated list of all the changes between 1.19~rc3-1 (= upstream 1.19-rc3)
and 1.19~rc4-1 (= upstream 1.19-rc4) is as follows. The upstream changelog
can be found at http://hg.vergenet.net/perdition/perdition/

Bug#501740: ldirectord-2: Init script fails to run

2008-10-09 Thread Horms
Package: ldirectord-2
Version: 2.0.7-2
Severity: normal

As reported by Jason Ledford, the ldirectord init script is
not functional. This bug was fixed in 2.0.8-4 and this bug
currently only effects Etch. Furthermore, only effects
users who wish to run ldirectord stand-alone, rather than
in conjunction with heartbeat.

A work around is to use the ldirectord-2 2.1.3-6~bpo40+2 package
available from backports.org.

Another work-around is to use the following script as
/etc/init.d/ldirectord

Bug#494070: base-passwd: Please allocate static UID & GID for heartbeat

2008-08-06 Thread Horms
Package: base-passwd
Version: 3.5.18
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Please allocate a static uid for hacluster and
a static gid for haclient. hacluster's group is haclient.

heartbeat requires a uid for hacluster and a gid for haclient.
Up until now dynamic a uid and gid have been used. However this leads
to an discrepancy between the values recorded in hb_config.h,
which is created at compile time and provided in the heartbeat-dev
package, and the values actually used for a given install.

This hasn't been a problem in practice until now, as no one seems
to have been using hb_config.h much. However with the split of some
code into the pacemaker project hb_config.h now needs to be useful.

I think that there was a slight delay with the arm build of 2.1.2-1,

in newer versions of heartbeat. The lastest version is currently 2.1.2-1

Thanks

Hi Federico,

a new release of hearbeat was recently made and uploaded
to Debian. Would it be possible to see if 2.1.2-1 aleviates
the resource problems that you were seeing before?

Bug#434829: heartbeat: Incorect path for crm.dtd and other scripts

2007-07-26 Thread Horms
Package: heartbeat
Version: 2.1.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Just prior to the release of 2.1.1 a number of files, including crm.dtd
were relocated from /usr/lib/heartbeat and /usr/share/heartbeat. In
order to ease the pain of this relocation compatibility symlinks
were put in place and, accordingly, many references to these
files were not updated to use the new path.

Unfortunately the compatibility symlink creation was added to
the RPM .spec file and nowhere else, and for this reason
they were not included in the Debian package - it turns out
the addition to the .spec file also didn't work, but
that is a different story.

This has been loged as Heartbeat bugzilla bug 1661, and there
is a related bug 1665.

http://old.linux-foundation.org/developer_bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1661
http://old.linux-foundation.org/developer_bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1665

This has been fixed in upstream mecurual as changesets
13dc55dece11, 0c8dc61feeb2 and 635bd958ed2b.

http://hg.linux-ha.org/dev/rev/0c8dc61feeb2
http://hg.linux-ha.org/dev/rev/635bd958ed2b

I will relase 2.1.1-2 ASAP with these patches applied.

I've been told this month.

I can make an interim upload of 2.0.8 + this fix if you like.
I could make such an upload today unless the sky falls in.

Hi Russell,

I think that I know what /proc/sys/kernel/core_uses_pid does,
but I am not at all sure about /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern.

Bug#418975: libnet1: Buffer overrun in libnet_pblock_coalesce

2007-04-12 Thread Horms
Package: libnet1
Version: 1.1.2.1-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi,

while investigating #418749 and #417835 I discovered that
libnet_do_checksum() seems to be accessing unalocated memory.

The problem seems to stem libnet_pblock_coalesce(), which passes
buf + offset, where offset is calculated to be
(l->total_size + l->aligner) - q->ip_offset. However, in the usage
case that I see q->ip_offset is always zero, and as buf
is mallocked to be l->total_size + l->aligner bytes long earlier in
libnet_pblock_coalesce(), unallocated memory is passed to the
libnet_do_checksum() call.

Poking around a bit, it seems that the memory is also uninitialised.
I'm not sure what the correct fix is, but I wonder if offset
should actually be l->aligner + q->ip_offset. This certainly
solves the problem that was reported in #418749 and #417835.
But as both l->aligner and q->ip_offset are zero I am not sure if
it is correct in the general case.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for tracking this down. I had a look around and I really
can't find any documentation indicating weather strlen() or strlen() + 1
should be passed. I think that its entirely reasonable that
strlen() + 1 is correct, so in lieu of any specification, I'm
going to change the code as per your patch.

If anyone finds documentation indicating that this is not correct,
please let me know.

I expect that its just a simple bug in the config parser.
I'm sorry that I haven't found time to investigate it.
But if you want to do so, poking around in the source,
either from the debian package or cvs, would be a good start.
From memory config.c is what you are after.

allow the master and backup synchronisation daemons to be run
simultanously. The debconf config menu really ought to support this.

I though I had done an NMU for this, but perhaps not.

Thanks. I'll get that fix into the Linux-HA lha-STABLE_1_2 tree
and also roll up a fresh Debian package.

For the record, this problem does not seem to be present
in the heartbeat-2 package (aka linux-ha 2.0.X).

Ahh yes, I do recall that one.

I've just read through all the messages associated with the bug
and my position can be best described by the text at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=310982;msg=101

That is, the patch should make the kernel ignore CAP_UNIX if
options which make it dangerous in Sarge are specified from
user-space. At the time this seemed to Steve Langasek and myself
to be the best of a poor set of available solutions. And I think
that is still the case.

I have not verified that the patch is correct. Although I do remember
being quite confident about it at the time. If someone could test it,
that would be most excellent :)

As a work-around, could you try using just the following,
which should do what you are after, well assuming that it works.

ssl_mode tls_listen_force

The problem is that the call to mknod is not creating a device,
it is creating a fifo, which is not an operation created by makedev.

I'm not sure what the best fix, if any, is for this. When I asked
around a very long time ago, I was advised to just leave the call
to mknod inside the maintainer script.

Thanks. I suspect that the problem is that ther eis a missing
build depenancy on iptables, and thus its path is not being
auto-detected and filled in at build-time.

I'll get this fixed for the next release.

Bug#378450: ldirectord-2: unwanted emailalerts

2006-07-16 Thread Horms
Package: ldirectord-2
Version: 2.0.6-1
Severity: serious

ldirectord-2 has been reported to be trying to send emailalerts even if
not configured to do so. I haven't verified this behaviour myself, and I
don't have time to right now. This bug should hold ldirectord-2 out of
etch, until I (or someone else) gets a chance to investigate further.

If worst comes to worse, email alearts can just be stripped out
of the ldirectord source code. But I doubt anything that drastic
is required.

Is it sufficient just to make the call do deluser conditional on it

Yes, I think that is a good solution (short of rearanging the
resource paths completely). I can do this fairly easily in the Debian
packaging and intend to do so shortly. Do you want me to shoe-horn this
into the relevant Makefile.am, or just leave it as a Debian thing?

I have a rough idea of how to fix it. Do you know of a box

seem to manifest on the architectures that I have (i386 and ppc).

Ok, I was confused. Its exactly what should be happening.
I'll rearange things so that it is. And re-upload.

Thats exactly what is happening :-)

Fine, though I would have thought that this is a fairly common
scenario with a canned solution.

Ok, understood.

Adduser is only used to create a system group and user on install
if it doesn't exist. Is there an alternate way to do this
that wouldn't require a pre-depends?

What exactly is that supposed to mean?
That we all need to agree before adding the pre-depends?
That we aren't sure if it solves the problem? That
pre-depends should be added with extreeme caution?
Are there other options available? I'm pretty ambivilent
about how this problem gets fixed. Just let me know what
you decide.

Presumably these alterations to 352027 also apply to 352158.
Could you please update that bug too?

Bug#352152: kernel-package: latest unstable version breaks 2.4.27 image builds

2006-02-09 Thread Horms
Package: kernel-package
Version: 10.034
Severity: important

The current version of make-kpkg calls the kernel's prepare target,
but this does not exist in 2.4.27. Apart from anything else,
this renders all of the 2.4.27 images in etch/sid unbuildable.
I'm not entirely sure what the correct fix is, as changing make-kpkg
to use prepare (for 2.6) seems to have been a reasonably complex change.

Here is a log of a failed build, on the off chance it helps.
I've seen it for i386 and powerpc, and I believe that Norbert Tretkowski
has seen it on Alpha.

Hi,

The xfs.o/vn_mark_bad problem has also been reported as #343970
I would like to handle discussion of that problem exclsively in
that bug. I also believe that I have a solution to that problem,
as annotated in that bug.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=343970

I would like to use this bug, 344036, to address the missing ACCEPT
symbol in orinoco.o. I hope to post a solution to that problem shortly.

It turns out that this patch introduces a bug in the form of a missing
symbol (#343970).

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=343970

The fix for this is to add an additional patch, which was also included
in 2.4.29-pre1

http://linux.bkbits.net:8080/linux-2.4/[EMAIL
PROTECTED]|src/|src/fs|src/fs/xfs|src/fs/xfs/linux-2.4|related/fs/xfs/linux-2.4/xfs_vnode.h

I have added this for inclusion in Sid's (trunk) 2.4.27-13.

I have removed the original patch from sarge-security's 2.4.27-10sarge2
as I believe that these patches are far to large for a security release.
I don't believe they have been closely examined. And we don't even
have a CVE for them. Should we add a patch-tracker entry for them
and consider them for "sarge3"?

Bug#350586: heartbeat: LinuxSCSI fails because of wrong /proc/scsi/scsi Usage

2006-02-02 Thread Horms
Hi Martin,

do you have any information in weather the /proc/scsi interface
changed at some stage. I7m concerned that although your suggestion
will work on 2.6.8, it may not work on other kernel version,
and thus something slightly smarter needs to be done at run time to work
out what commands to be sent based on the prevailing kernel version.

Heartbat-2's postinst script tries to manipulate var/run/heartbeat/{ccm,crm}

the postinst, and thus the install to abort.

On Sven's request I have added this patch to SVN,
it should appear in linux-2.6 2.6.15-3

Hi Paddy,

A way for heartbeat to use invoke-rc.d seems like a good idea to me.
Perhaps the best way would be to make a resource that acts as a
simple wrapper for invoke-rc.d and can be listed in the haresources
file.

I've CCed the linux-ha-dev list as thats a good place for discussions
like this. Though only members can post (to cut down on spam) so
you'll need to join up or pass messages to me (or 346117).

Thanks. I'm not sure how those dependancies went missing,
but I'll look into it.

Yes, please specify IPaddr2 in your haresources file instead of IPaddr.

I've CCed the upstream maintainer, to bring this minor issue
to his attention.

Greg, I see in the code that message is logged using err(),
perhaps dbg() would be more appropriate. Trivial patch for reference:

PCI hotplug: Be slightly quieter about shpc_cap_offset == 0

It seems that the following message, logged as err() can show
    up during normal boots.

Manoj,

being the extraversions expert, do you have any thoughts on this.
The current situation seems less than ideal.

I think I need to write a canned response for 2.6.8 bugs:

As upstream kernel development moves at a rapid pace its virtually
impossible to backport other than trivial fixes. Without spending
a lot of time investingating your problem, would it be possible
to see if the 2.6.12 backport to sarge, a significantly newer kernel,
helps your immediate problem.

There is a known problem with the ieee80211 in Linus' tree being
out of date. Its slowly being discussed on debian-kernel.

I believe that what Marco is saying is that, while the ordering
of loading the modules may be important, as does indeed
seem to be the case here, its not up to udev to set that ordering,
it is handled entirely by the kernel. So it seems that Alsa needs
to be enhanced so either the ordering isn't required, or it has
some way to load oss pcm first.

With this in mind, could you please log a bug against ALSA and
report any bugs back here (unfortunately bugzilla doesn't play well
with the debian BTS). James Courtier-Dutton recently posted
(to another bug) about how he would like ALSA bugs handled.
