Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "sabnzbdplus":

   Version : 3.1.1+dfsg-1
   Upstream Author : The SABnzbd-Team
 * URL : https://sabnzbd.org
 * License : GPL-2+ and others

Changes since the last upload:

 sabnzbdplus (3.1.1+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   [ JCF Ploemen (jcfp) ]
   * New upstream release.

installable (as chromium-driver isn't available on every
architecture) and needs-root (to create a symlink in /usr/bin).
 + upstream-tests: deselect test_happyeyeballs and internetspeed,
both require network access; re-enable test_functional_config.
 + upstream-tests: require python3-sabyenc >= 4.0.2 (reintroduces
yEnc-encode functionality, needed by the testsuite since
   3.0.0~beta2); add deps on python3-distutils, python3-flaky,
   python3-pyfakefs, and python3-pytest-httpbin.
+ basic-runs: improve to get the actual exit status for the
   console run.
   * Add debian/README.source to document missing sources handling.

+ refresh override for source-is-missing: the tag no longer
prints line lengths for every hit.

   outside-usr-share-doc: another false positive.
   * Watch: bump version to 4 (from 3; no further changes).

Changes since the last upload:

   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Explicitly set the platform option when building for armhf
rather than rely on the configure script's autodetection.

I'm doing another nmu for ck, as the previous one (0.6.0-1.3) failed to
build for armhf [1], preventing migration [2]. Build failure occurs
because the configure script fails to autodetect the platform, for no
apparent reason.

That problem didn't exist in previous builds and also doesn't happen
when building -1.3 in ubuntu [3] for any architecture, armhf included.
The changes made in -1.3 didn't involve the configure script in any way.

Upstream git has switched the develop branch to python3 and that seems
to work fine, but there have been no tagged releases with that code
yet. The holdup appears to be macos and windoze support [1].

I was hoping for a tagged release though, which would be easier to work
with and less manual labour than a git snapshot. That said, it is a
viable alternative if need be - and the packaging work mostly complete
as well [2].

Bug#944877: non-ascii, non-printable byte in jquery.min.js

2019-11-16 Thread JCF Ploemen
Package: libjs-jquery
Severity: normal
Control: found -1 3.2.1-1
Control: found -1 3.3.1~dfsg-3

A recent bug filed against sabnzbdplus [1], a python program using
cherrypy to serve its web interface that in turn uses jquery, reported
the following error upon accessing the web interface:
"UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xef in position
8593: ordinal not in range(128)". The bug only triggered in case the
program was executed in a non-unicode environment.

The origin of that problematic byte turned out to be the minified
jquery from the libjs-jquery package. Both the non-minified code [2]
and upstream's minified file use the notation "\uFFFD" for this byte;
only in Debian's jquery.min.js it ends up as 0xef.

I understand why Debian chooses to build the minified version itself
rather than ship the one supplied with upstream releases, but doing so
shouldn't introduce unnecessary regressions. Please fix the minifying
process to retain the ascii notation for the likes of "\uFFFD".

I've added a patch to functools to turn it into a namespace package,
thus avoiding the filename conflict. Going by __init__.py that seems to
have been intended upstream as well, but setup.py was missing some
statements to actually make it work that way.

Haven't touched itertools for now, although it probably wouldn't hurt
to update it to the latest upstream version and apply a similar
namespace fix.

The development version of sabnzbdplus that switches the application to
python3 adds a number of new dependencies (python-gntp, -portend,
-tempora, and -jaraco.functools). The related ITP bugs are marked as
blocking a fix for this bug.

The packaging for all of the above is complete and awaiting sponsorship.

Severity: normal

Python2 becomes end-of-live upstream, and Debian aims to remove
Python2 from the distribution, as discussed in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2019/07/msg00080.html

Your package either build-depends, depends on Python2, or uses Python2
in the autopkg tests. Please stop using Python2, and fix this issue
by one of the following actions.

- Convert your Package to Python3. This is the preferred option. In
case you are providing a Python module foo, please consider dropping
the python-foo package, and only build a python3-foo package. Please
don't drop Python2 modules, which still have reverse dependencies,
  just document them.

  This is the preferred option.

- If the package is dead upstream, cannot be converted or maintained
in Debian, it should be removed from the distribution. If the
package still has reverse dependencies, raise the severity to
"serious" and document the reverse dependencies with the BTS affects
command. If the package has no reverse dependencies, confirm that
the package can be removed, reassign this issue to ftp.debian.org,
make sure that the bug priority is set to normal and retitle the
issue to "RM: PKG -- removal triggered by the Python2 removal".

- If the package has still many users (popcon >= 300), or is needed to
build another package which cannot be removed, document that by
adding the "py2keep" user tag (not replacing the py2remove tag),
using the debian-pyt...@lists.debian.org user. Also any
dependencies on an unversioned python package (python, python-dev)
must not be used, same with the python shebang. These have to be
replaced by python2/python2.7 dependencies and shebang.

This is the least preferred option.

If the conversion or removal needs action on another package first,
please document the blocking by using the BTS affects command, like

  affects + src:cheetah

If there is no py2removal bug for that reverse-dependency, please file
a bug on this package (similar to this bug report).

If there are questions, please refer to the wiki page for the removal:

Bug#897516:

2018-07-19 Thread JCF Ploemen
The original bug reported here - partial failure of cram's test suite -
seems to be triggered by python-coverage >= 4.5, first uploaded to
Debian in Februari of 2018 (i.e. roughly 2 years after cram 0.7-1). With
earlier versions of coverage, cram 0.7-1 builds fine. I don't know
whether the bug is in cram, its test suite, or coverage though.

Any known examples of cram failing in packages using it for their test
suites? Otherwise, please consider doing an upload of cram that runs
the test suite but ignores the outcome until there's more definitive
info on the root cause of this bug.

I have a fully working packaging, but for now cannot proceed due to
upstream unwillingness to address a serious licensing issue.
Investigating a possible last resort workaround is on my todo list but

Took a bit of work to reproduce this one. Restricting a VM to a single
core, and stressing that to 100% during build did the trick. Turned out
the test was expecting a 1.* value for latency but a system with
limited resources would exceed that.

Added a patch so that it will accept any latency value >= 1ms (the test
has a usleep(1000) statement that ensures that minimum); also forwarded
upstream.

>
> - crc32tbl.h is a generated file, and ideally it would be regenerated

I understand the sentiment, but in this case that seems unnecessary.
Looking at the code in crc32.c that table never changes, and it being
generated rather than "hand made" was probably a mere choice of
convenience for its original author.

Upstream version was bumped to newly released v1.0.7 in the process.

Thanks for the info. Couple of follow-up questions:

* Is this a fresh debian and sabnzbd install or an updated system with
a re-used configuration? If updated, from what previous versions?

* Did you setup the program to use your own ssl certificates or those
  generated automatically by sabnzbd?

* How old are the ssl certificates? If you don't know, try running the

  ls -la ~/.sabnzbd/admin/*.{key,cert}

Unfortunately, your report fails to provide any information beyond "it

these were only there because of 'convert' in d/rules, used for
creating an xpm (in turn needed for menu support) out of the upstream
svg icon. With all that gone, the build-deps had become useless, guess I
could have spelled that out in the changelog though.

> btw removing that will probably allow me to do a sync --force in

Feel free to sync this. The entire ubuntu diff was a side effect of
their version bump ahead of debian, hence the similarities with the
work done here for 4.8.0. I use xubuntu as my primary os, making sure
things just work on *buntu is but self interest.

Good find. While the file in itself doesn't do any harm as installed by
upstream, it could indeed be useful as documentation. Decided to link
the other way around though, i.e. from /usr/share/doc/xpad to its
current location (in accordance with policy section 12.3).

> You seem to have added an upstream signing key and modified d/watch,

My bad, had to revert some of the initial changes as the pubkey was
nowhere to be found (despite signed releases) and then forgot to
restore the changelog entry after asking upstream about that in
https://answers.launchpad.net/xpad/+question/295164

Unfortunately, that patch came completely undocumented and didn't make
much sense, so I went with a delete-and-see approach here. Could well
be that using autoreconf was all it took to get rid of it. The lack of
info about why it was there in the first place makes it hard to provide
more details beyond the simple notion of being 'no longer needed'.

This is a standard and well known change implemented in numerous
packages nowadays. Afaik, no section in policy explicitly mentions the
deprecation; the text was just changed to that effect. I'll mention the
ctte decision in d/changelog in the hope of preventing others from
wasting time reading that lengthy bug report but that's about all I can
do here.

Obviously. Reworded.

Sorted/reordered them alright, never even imagined someone would have
created a tool for that though. I'll add a note to the changelog.

the way of sponsorship. But until then: let's agree to disagree.

Thanks for your comment.

As much as I understand the sentiment, I don't think installing these
files purely as a nicety does justice to the interests of end users
expecting to find actual documentation in that very place.

A quick read of their comments and frustration on the launchpad bug
referenced in the package changelog clearly shows there's no better way
to acknowledge upstream's hard work than simply keeping the debian
package up-to-date.

Test failure reproduced using qemu with a jessie install on mips (#809744

be an endianness issue with stored data in three tests, which also
explains why it was restricted to big endian archs. Meanwhile confirmed

Package: release.debian.org

Please unblock package par2cmdline

The previous upstream release introduced a regression causing failure to locate
misnamed files in some cases, causing the program to wrongly report such files
as unrepairable when they are not. The related bug report is #769820 (severity
important).

Upstream release 0.6.11 fixes this bug with a two line code change, and updates
the relevant test. The remainder of the upstream diff is noise from their
version bump and some indent stuff; there are no other code changes.

Debdiff against 0.6.10-1 currently in testing is attached. No upload of
0.6.11-1 has been done yet.

Bug#764367: [uscan] sf.net handling broken in 2.14.7

2014-10-07 Thread JCF Ploemen
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.14.7
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/uscan

hi,

the last upload appears to have broken the sf.net handling, resulting
in the download of some html page rather than the actual upstream
tarball.

No such problem with the previous release (2.14.6), or with 2.14.7 after
commenting out the referer header introduced in this commit:
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/devscripts.git/commit/?id=f0403cebacf193e2a709545321e1881f7d954365

Example output:

= 2.14.7 =
debian@debian:~/devel/svn.debian.org/sab/trunk$ uscan --version | head -n1
This is uscan, from the Debian devscripts package, version 2.14.7

Does it require automake 1.11 specifically? That version isn't due for
removal from the archive quite yet, but it will probably be in the next
round [1], and the current automake version is 1.14. Might as well
bring it all the way up to date if it still builds easily.

Nicholas, thanks for your comment.

Package builds fine with latest automake too, in fact I initially made it
do just that. Only changed that because the autotools-dev README.Debian
seemed to suggest using a fixed version of automake. Also, prior to
your mail, I was unaware that 1.11 had even been under consideration for
removal at all.

So latest automake it is (pulled in via dh-autoreconf). Files on mentors
have been updated already.

Bug#735003: sabnzbdplus: add systemd service file

2014-02-12 Thread JCF Ploemen
hi,

I took a look at your patch and did quite a bit of reading up on systemd.
Lots of modern niceties, although its authors definitively didn't have
something like sabnzbd in mind.

I agree reusing /etc/default/sabnzbdplus isn't the way forward, simply
because that would involve scripting around the rigid and deliberately
incompatible design choices in systemd. I also don't see any realistic
way to avoid a user switching to systemd from having to reconfigure the
service - happy to be proven wrong though.

Given that systemd is apparently a release goal for jessie [1], I'm
open to adding support for it, albeit not at the expense of introducing
regressions or unnecessarily increasing support load.

Anyway, a couple of questions about your .service file:

(1) Why force the log level on startup at all, esp. to a level that iirc
is the default anyway?

(2) User=%I, Group=%I: according to the systemd.unit manpage, %I is the
unescaped instance name, a term that apparently refers to the username
part of the command used to start/enable the service. Does this mean the
proposed service file requires the group to match the username?

(3) Is there any way of passing command line arguments and/or systemd
options? Other than by direct editing of the service file, as it appears
such edits do not survive package updates.

Think:
* sab options, such a --server (to enable remote access or specify a
different port number) or --config for users that keep sabnzbd.ini in
another location: both common real life use cases that the current init
  script handles fine.
* systemd options, such as the Group to use for the service (and whatever
  else there is in systemd).

(4) Shouldn't some attempt be made to start sab reasonably late, e.g. via
the After=... unit option? The init.d script does so (by popular demand);
nowadays via soft boot dependencies in its INIT INFO, and previously by
linking at S98/K02. This lowers the chances of bumping into unconfigured
networking and the likes. As is, systemd may end up starting the program
alot earlier in the boot sequence, which brings only disadvantages.

PS: Don't spend too much time on the packaging details, given the
existence of dh-systemd that's probably the easy part.

Bug#691312: sabnzbdplus: Version 0.7.4-1 can not be installed because initscript fails

2012-10-29 Thread JCF Ploemen
Thanks for the info.

Root cause turns out to be that extra space in the shebang. Upstream
sources don't have it and the packaging doesn't intentionally add it
either. I suspect this is a side effect of a recent change in dh_python2
(rewrite shebangs by default at [3]).

This causes detection of running instances in the init script to fail,
meaning it will start but stop/restart/status will no longer work. On
upgrade, the service thus fails to start because the old (undetected)
instance is in the way.

There have been occasional reports of X11 related messages on startup
ever since 0.7.x. See [1] and [2] for details. Please describe your X11
setup. Desktop or headless? Local or remote? Is the user running the
service also the one controlling the X session?

sabnzbdplus fails to install because the initscript fails. The daemon
is running afterwards, but stopping and/or restarting fails.

How does stopping and/or restarting fail? Is the process still around
if you just wait for a few minutes?

Please also attach the following:

* full output of 'sh -x /etc/init.d/sabnzbdplus start';
* program's debug log resulting from running 'sabnzbdplus -l2' (that's
a lowercase L) under the same user account normally used by the init
  script.

In both cases, make sure the service is not yet running.

Bug#593829: sabnzbdplus: sabnzbd.ini defaults to world-readable

2010-08-22 Thread JCF Ploemen
Thanks for the report.

The init script isn't the place to fix this. While definitely convenient,
using it is by no means mandatory. Hence, fixes in there won't have any
effect in case the program is started by other means. In addition, I
dislike the concept of an init script making changes inside users' home
directories.

The discussion on the upstream forums I assume you are referring to had
people suggesting encryption for the ini file, which is indeed useless for
the reasons given by the developers. Initially creating the file with more
secure permissions (as compared to common default umasks of 022 or 002)
might make sense though, while not doing any damage. I'll discuss with
upstream first.

BTW: I'll leave severity and tags alone for now, although I don't really
think this is a security issue in sabnzbdplus. More like the logical
result of a not-very-good-for-privacy umask of 002 or 022 (which impacts
any program that creates files), and/or bad security practices such as
reusing login passwords.

hi Jonny,

thanks for your work on this bug. Indeed synce-gvfs isn't in Debian yet
(RPF at bug #517846), seems I got it installed from an Ubuntu ppa as a
kind of 'collateral damage' while bughunting. Took a look at it today, but
synce-gvfs is really weird: it wants a gvfs source tree and compile that
before building the actual synce backend. Almost like it would be better
off as part of gvfs to begin with.

but doesn't have a corresponding dependency. As a result, trying to use
this functionality fails (silenty) on any system that doesn't already
happen to have nautilus installed, which is commonly the case for any
non-gnome desktop. As soon as the 'nautilus' package is installed,
everything works as expected.

Bug#577588: libpam-mount: suggests non-existent truecrypt | truecrypt-utils

2010-04-12 Thread JCF Ploemen
Package: libpam-mount
Version: 1.33-2

Libpam-mount package suggests 'truecrypt | truecrypt-utils', but
neither of those is available from any of Debian's repositories.
Please remove these dependencies.

Bug#577589: claws-mail-html2-viewer: cannot print without html2ps

2010-04-12 Thread JCF Ploemen
Package: claws-mail-html2-viewer
Version: 3.7.5-1

Claws-mail-html2-viewer cannot print unless the html2ps program is
installed. Currently 'html2ps' is not a dependency.

To reproduce: start claws-mail, load the plugin, open a html email, and
try to print it while viewing a msg as html. Program will give an error
message saying Printing HTML is only possible if the program 'html2ps' is
installed. Installing that package fixes the problem.
