Bug#660453: closed by Yves-Alexis Perez (Re: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#660453: Bug#660453: xfce4-goodies - remove squeeze from dependencies)
Which part of "I realize this is a convenience meta-package but even such packages should not force deprecated broken stuff on users, otherwise it is not really so much convenient any more." has been missed here? And what exactly changed here since the reply on 19 Feb 2012? Because the reasoning for WONTFIX makes absolutely no sense. The package introduces dependencies on highly broken system stuff such as hal. One would think reasonable distributions would even have policies against such packages. And then you say you want to "provide applications to users which might not already know them." - you want to provide users with broken things depending on even more broken things as a "convenience"? Huh. > -- > 660453: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=660453 > Debian Bug Tracking System > Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems > > > -- Přeposlaná zpráva -- > From: Yves-Alexis Perez > The metapackage is here to provide applications to users which might not > already know them. Bug#664718: Info received (grub-pc 1.99-18: grub-setup: error: cannot read `/grub/core.img' correctly)
The above error about inability to read core.img got replaced with "error: non-sector-aligned data is found in the core file" somewhere between 1.99-19 and 1.99-20 (which got fixed 1.99-21 - #666992) so this I guess may be closed). (For people hitting the same, I could work around it by reformatting /boot to ext3 on *some* of the affected systems. NFC. Running grub-setup with --debug showed that it really was unable to find the file, would suggest some cryptic bug in ext2.mod. Systems with grub installed to MBR were unaffected, however that is not really an option for everyone, e.g. cannot be used on dual-boot boxes using Bitlocker-encrypted Vista/W7 system partition.) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#660198: haveged: new version 1.4 available
Package: haveged Version: 1.3a-1 Severity: wishlist Hi! A new version 1.4 is available from http://www.issihosts.com/haveged/downloads.html, please update the package. Release Notes - Version 1.4 The haveged build has been extended to support s390 and 'generic' architectures based upon clock_gettime(). A general cleanup of the build scripts includes the ability to install non-RedHat init scripts without patching the build. The haveged collection loop has been rewritten to support multiple instances and add additional diagnostics which are being used to further improve haveged. Tuning logic for the collection has been totally rewritten to replace buggy cpuid code and incorporate additional information obtained from the /proc and /sys file systems. An experimental multi-threaded option is also provided for those hoping to spread haveged cpu load over multi-processes. Bug#659508: ca-certificates: Remove Trustwave CA
One can certainly "applaud the fact they are discussing this publicly" - but - what they have done is totally a no no (would sound like a no brainer if you ask me) no matter how much subsequent damage control you do. Wrt Mozilla, I strongly feel there is very little point in waiting for any resolution there. After all (and on the MITM note), they *still* ship CNNIC certificate with no intention of removing it, apparently. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=542689 > How do you feel about the sneaky nature of the apparently multiple Verisign > compromise disclosures, and the subsequent lack of public discussion - > should we also remove their CAs? That, CNNIC, Comodo and probably bunch of others. Will not fix the real issue though - the entire trusted CA model design is broken as it is. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
