Upon uncommenting the the new line in sudoers to include files in
/etc/sudoers.d, visudo gives a syntax error warning on exit. After
saving anyway and restarting sudo, sudo fails to start, shutting down
with a parse error.

Bug#603874: foiltex is installed but not found by lyx

2010-11-17 Thread Joe Neal

I have the foiltex package installed but it doesn't show up on the LaTeX

I don't know much about LaTeX itself (that's why I'm using Lyx) so there isn't
too much digging around
I can do to diagnose the problem.

It shows up fine under the document class setting. It's just in the generated
LayTeX configuration document that it doesn't show up, even after reconfiguring
and restarting.

You can downgrade this to minor or close it.

Bug#594459: X freezes after logging out of KDE [945G]

2010-09-05 Thread Joe Neal
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.12.0+legacy1-1
Severity: normal

A couple other things I noticed about this:

1. While the mouse cursor would change, I would always have a mouse cursor when
the rest of X went unresponsive.

2. I do not have this problem when using GDM, only KDM, so something about the
recent kernel update either exposed a bug in KDM
or something in the kernel is not compatable with KDM in some way.

I'll be filing a new bug referencing this one with KDM shortly.

Bug#595723: kdm: After recent kernel upgrade KDM fails to restart following logout (see bug #594459)

2010-09-05 Thread Joe Neal
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.4.5-3
Severity: normal

After upgrading to the most recent X and kernel packages
(/linux-image-2.6-amd64_2.6.32+28_amd64.deb),
KDM began failing to restart on logout. I was able to determine that it was
the kernel upgrade that triggered the problem.

The mouse cursor remained visable on logout, KDM simply failed to restart. I
was unable to access any virtual terminals
via ctl-alt F1-F7. I initialy reported this as an X bug, #594459. Dumps of my
X logs and such are available there.

The only thing that looks funny in kdm.log is:

can you still ping the machine? If so, fetching kernel and X logs

It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get those logs, but I was able to
isolate this down to the kernel package update by playing with old packages so
you can reassign the bug.

Bug#594459: xserver-xorg-video-intel: X freezes after logging out of KDE [945G]

can you still ping the machine? If so, fetching kernel and X logs
through ssh, and attaching them here would be very welcome.

I don't presently have a second working computer at my disposal. I'll see what
I can work out over the next couple weeks by way of borrowing a laptop or
granting someone else ssh access if nobody else is able to reproduce the bug.

Bug#590885: Followup

2010-08-03 Thread Joe Neal
Just to give a little more information...

I did not have VB 3.0 installed at the time that I had this error but in fact
VB 3.2. The error was coming from the fact that I had the official VB package
repository in my sources.list:

(deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/ lenny non-free)

Oracle offers old versions of VB for installation from there, so that's how the
VB 3.0 package with the bad filename made it into /var/lib/dpkg/available. The
solution was pretty simple, remove that repo from sources.list and rebuild
/var/lib/dpkg/available.

Am I correct in assuming that anyone with that line in their sources.list will
have a failed upgrade?

Bug#590885: upgrade fails w/ 'dpkg: parse error' due to Lenny version of non-free VirtualBox package

2010-07-29 Thread Joe Neal
Package: dpkg
Version: dpkg_1.15.8_amd64.deb
Severity: normal

I'm aware of the fact that running the Lenny version of Oracle's VB package
under sid is not supported.

Hell, I'm supprised it even works.

Upgrading dpkg fails due to having it installed, however. I'm concerned about
the potential for Lenny -- Squeeze upgrade
failures for people with this package installed under Lenny.

Here is the error:

Preparing to replace dpkg 1.15.7.2 (using .../archives/dpkg_1.15.8_amd64.deb)

Actualy, I now seem to be unable to remove the virtualbox package to remedy the
problem as I initialy planned,
leaving my system unupgradable. This is going to be fun.

Bug#586387: chromium-browser: Lots of UI crashes and weirdness

2010-07-13 Thread Joe Neal

 Joe Neal wrote:

You can copy and paste the backtrace from the terminal or use

  gdb | tee backtrace.txt

to log debugging output to a file[1]. Then I would suggest attaching it
to http://crbug.com/48259 (or failing that, the Debian bug).

OK, I just had another crash.

The output ps -ax | grep chromium is attached as is the debug log and
backtrace log.

Variations of those last two lines in chrome_debug.log appear in stdout when
things start to lock out.

I know zilch about using gdb. Low level programming for me is python. If
there is anything I could do in the future to coax more data out of it, let me
know.

One thing I should probably mention for the sake of debugging is that I'm
still using the EOLed 64 bit flash plugin. In general I've found it less
crashy than using the 32 bit one with nspluginwrapper.

I can copy paste and paste my entire about:plugins page if needed if there's
not an easier way to extract that information.

If you can copy this report over to the other place I'll make an account and
report all subsequent reports both here and there.

Are there any themes in the backtraces? Is chromium stuck in a different
function when frozen than during normal operation?

Another ignorant question: are you using compiz? From random searching it
seems you can temporarily disable compiz by running kwin --replace
if kwin is installed. I ask because your symptoms seem vaguely
 reminiscent of http://crbug.com/29561

After rebooting or restarting KDM X default to 1024x278 rather than the

Xrander returns the expected results when it's in the wrong display mode:

Anyway, I figured another X log might be useful

Bug#586387: chromium-browser: Lots of UI crashes and weirdness

2010-06-18 Thread Joe Neal
Package: chromium-browser
Version: 5.0.375.70~r48679-2
Severity: normal

I've been having a lot of weird problems with Chromium and I can't help but
think they are all related.

Sometimes a tab will freeze and become unresponsive and unclosable until I take
action on any other tab, ie
open another tab or close another tab. Sometimes there is no way to unfreeze
it but to close cromium entirely.
Sometimes when this happens non-chromium parts of the UI freeze up, such as my
task bar, forcing a ctl-alt-del to
log out of KDE. When the UI is hung like this is sometimes acts like the mouse
focus is frozen, for example
hitting enter to logout won't work but will instead open a Konsole sesssion if
that's where the focus was before I
tried to log out. I always have to wait the full 30 seconds to log out because
I'm unable to select enter to do so.

When I use Chromium in Fluxbox I get no maximize and close buttons on the
window, when using the chromium default WM
and when I select use system title bar and borders nothing happens at all.

When I use it in XFCE it leaves a dark bar accross the top of the screen where
I had the title bar maximized after I
close it.

I had the exact same problems with the Google packaged Chrome which is why I
switched to the debian package when
it became available but unfortunately the problems remained.

I saw no bugs that looked like this in the Google bug trackers. I'll check the
bug trackers of other distros an
see anything like it.

Bug#575052: icedtea6-plugin: I've narrowed it down

2010-06-18 Thread Joe Neal
Package: icedtea6-plugin
Version: 6b18-1.8-2
Severity: normal

OK, I don't know if you got my last response to this or not. It didn't post to
the bug report.

I've narrowed the conflict down to all-in-one sidebar (debian sid version).

There might have been other addons installed that cause the same problems, but
AIOSB was the first I found.

I have no idea if the Java plugin or the addons should be considered buggy.

Bug#575052: icedtea6-plugin: After last update, maxes out CPU when using parachat applet

2010-03-23 Thread Joe Neal
Package: icedtea6-plugin
Version: 6b18~pre3-1
Severity: normal

After the most recent update the plugin-to-appletviewer process and
appletviewer-to-plugin
is using 100% CPU while running a parachat applet. An example parachat applet
is here:

http://chat.parachat.com/chat/code.php

This did not happen before the most recent upgrade

Yes, I know what year it is and I should be using something other than Java for
a webchat solution.
I just haven't gotten around to it.

Bug#574679: icedtea6-plugin: Plugin does not work with Chromium/Chrome

2010-03-19 Thread Joe Neal
Package: icedtea6-plugin
Version: 6b18~pre2-1
Severity: normal

Chrome and hand built Chromium do not detect the IcedTea plugin. See the
Google bug here:

http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=20087q=OpenJDKcolspec=ID%20Stars%20Pri%20Area%20Feature%20Type%20Status%20Summary%20Modified%20Owner%20Mstone%20OS

This isn't a debian problem at the moment but might be worth tracking here as
Chromium is a fairly major open source project and has a good chance of finding
its way into Debian.

Bug#573117: angband: Old/Unreadable savefile keeps game from loading

2010-03-08 Thread Joe Neal
Package: angband
Version: 1:3.1.1.1626-1
Severity: normal

When I try to start the game from an xterm with no switches a window loads with
the message:

Error (Unreadable savefile (too old?)) reading 3.0.10 savefile .

and then fails to load.

I've looked all over my home directory for the old savefile and can't find it.

If I start a new character with 'angband -uBob' or whatever it works fine. I
just can't start
it with the unadorned 'angband' command.

At the very least I think there should be some mention in README.debian of how
to nuke your old savefile.

Bug#567034: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] when using KMS, X puts the monitor directly into power saving mode upon startup[945G]

2010-01-26 Thread Joe Neal
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.1-2
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
When X starts the monitor immediately flashes that it is going into power
saving mode, before a display manager has a chance to start. It wakes upon
entering ctl-alt-F1 through ctl-alt-F6 but returns to power saving mode with
control-alt-F7.

Top, etc indicates that X is in fact running.

Disabling KMS solves the problem

Attached is a log from one of the failed X startup attempts rather than the
most recent successful one without KMS.

If any further info is needed, let me know.

KMS is in the kernel. So if KMS causes the problem, the bug should be
reassigned to the kernel. Which version of package
 linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64 do you use ?

$ uname -a
Linux bob 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Jan 10 22:40:40 UTC 2010 x86_64

Please don't use reportbug-ng, it doesn't attach interesting files that
 are needed to debug this.

I'll remember this in the future. Is there anything I can send now that would
be helpful?

Bug#549624: Now I lose the mouse cursor when I change video modes

2009-10-12 Thread Joe Neal
After the last upgrade I can no longer change to a larger resolution without
losing the mouse cursor.

I'm stuck using the 600x800 X falsely selects for me.

Should I file this against another package? Is it likely the intel driver
since it's known to be so buggy?

If I start the program without using the -m switch to set a directory I
get this error and crash, though the program does start and I do see the
last directory in which I used it.

If I use -m to set a default directory and then attempt to change
directories, the program crashes with the same error message.

I tried deleting the cache file under ./mocp and indeed the entire ./mocp
directory but it made no difference.

 Did you tried to

 rm -rf $HOME/.moc/cache

 ? ,mocp doesnt exist either.

 Elimar

That got it. I thought I already tried that. Thanks. Sorry for the hassle.

Bug#541282: logging out locks the screen

2009-10-04 Thread Joe Neal
I was having this problem in squeeze but the provided workaround fixed it. The
problem only started with the last major X upgrade. I've got an Intel 945GZ
chipset.

Now that Amarok is what it is I'd really really like to get this working if
you have any ideas for a workaround or a fix.
