2023-03-30 Thread Johan Kröckel
Hi Brian,

thanks for your help. But isn't it still a bug that cups is creating a
printer(-queue) that not only does not work, but also when using it opens
connections to the printer for hours? I think about the situation, that you
have many bookworm clients in the network, this could amount to a denial of
service.

I deleted the not working Kyocera_ECOSYS_M5526cdw but cups keeps recreating
it when I connect to the corresponding network.

Bug#1033625:

2023-03-30 Thread Johan Kröckel
I found #883554 when googling "implicitclass cups". That's a difference
between the two print queues:

One is
 ipps://Kyocera%20ECOSYS%20M5526cdw._ipps._tcp.local/ (works)
and the other is
implicitclass://Kyocera_ECOSYS_M5526cdw/ (the not printing but connecting
one, btw never created or configured manually).

No. Same problem.

This worked. This works with a job pending in Kyocera_ECOSYS_M5526cdw as
well.

Printing from a different device works as well
while Kyocera_ECOSYS_M5526cdw has a pending job and keeps an open
connection to the printer.

Brian, thank you. Debugging such a problem is fun as long as someone guides

Bug#1033625: cups constantly without timeout connects to network printer, does not print

2023-03-28 Thread Johan Kröckel
Package: cups
Version: 2.4.2-2
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: johan.kroec...@gmail.com

I am using a Kyocera Ecosys m5526cdw over the network. Printing stopped working
(worked with this version before).

Now when I try to start a print job cups ends with a message "Der Druckauftrag
wurde nicht angenommen.". BUT:

Now cups connects to the printer (LED on printer lights up as long as the pc is
on) but nothing is printed. When I reboot, the LED stops to blink as long as
the system is not completely booted, then the connection starts again.

After running cupsctl --debug-logging, error_log grows by around 30 megabytes
per hour.

Bug#993749: network-manager: Connecting/creating a WWAN connection fails with gnome shell js-error in journal

2021-09-05 Thread Johan Kröckel
Package: network-manager
Version: 1.30.0-2
Severity: important

When I click "connect" in the mobile broadband submenu the assistant for
creating a new connection should open, but nothing happens and the journal
shows:

Fixed in testing but painfully broken in stable.

Bug#974768: handbrake: Saving custom presets in custom category is broken

2020-11-14 Thread Johan Kröckel
Package: handbrake
Version: 1.2.2+ds1-1
Severity: normal

Creating a custom preset category in the GUI is not possible. Saving a new
preset with the option "new category" enabled fails silently.

Workaround:
- Save a new preset in a default category like "General"
- Close Handbrake
- Open ~/.config/ghb/presets.json
- There is a new second "General" category at the end of the file
- Change the name to your prefered new custom categories name

Bug#769995: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: displays don't wake up after suspend

 Dear Maintainer,

after waking up from suspend, the two monitors stay in power save
mode, no matter what I do. I am writing this report on the affected
machine, logged in over ssh. Switching num lock works. ALT-F1 etc has
 no effect.

That's probably a kernel problem. Could you please try a 3.17 kernel
from experimental[1] to see if it's already fixed?

Please test the latest 3.16 kernel in Jessie, version 3.16.7-ckt2-1
contains various nouveau patches that might fix your problem.

 Cheers,
Sven

Bug#773248: nautilus: problem with recycle bin when btrfs subvolumes are mounted under home

2014-12-15 Thread Johan Kröckel
Package: nautilus
Version: 3.14.1-2
Severity: important

I use subvolumes under some subdirectories like this (from fstab):
/dev/sdb1 /home/johan/Downloads btrfs
defaults,nofail,subvol=Downloads 0 1

When I now delete a file in Downloads it ends in ~/Downloads/.Trash-1000/files/
but it is not possible to really delete it. The empty recycle bin command
does not delete the files in the respective subvolumes. It does not even
recognize them, so when only files in subvolumes got deleted the empty bin
command is greyed out.
This is a major privacy problem because you dont see that deleted files are
actually not deleted. It is even impossible to delete them from within nautilus
without moving them out of the subvolume, because they are moved/copied to the
same folder again.

Bug#768896: nvidia-driver: resume from suspend breaks GNOME wallpaper

Same problem with nvidia-driver 343.22-2 from experimental together
with kernel 3.16.0-4-amd64 and 3.17-1-amd64.
I suspect the bug is neither in kernel nor driver but in another
package. But which?

Equal problem with a Geforce GT 730, but without the garbage on the screen,

Bug#770507: xserver-xorg-video-intel: short delay between key press and screen refresh in gnome-terminal

2014-11-25 Thread Johan Kröckel
No, compton is not installed. It's the default setup of beta-1.

2014-11-23 17:46 GMT+01:00 Vincent Bernat ber...@debian.org:
  ❦ 21 novembre 2014 21:40 +0100, Johan Kröckel johan.kroec...@gmail.com :

numbers and letters alone and together with shift.
arrow keys to move the cursor sometimes (move to or from a letter?)
delete and remove sometimes (delete a letter, not a newline?)
 space

I got the same problem and it was linked to the compositor (compton in
my case). Changing the configuration of the compositor fixed the problem
for me. It is easy to check if you are using an external
compositor. Just kill it and check if the problem is still here.

Bug#768896: nvidia-driver: resume from suspend breaks GNOME wallpaper

2014-11-25 Thread Johan Kröckel
Will stay with nouveau for now.

2014-11-25 20:05 GMT+01:00 Johan Kröckel johan.kroec...@gmail.com:
 No, same problem with 340.58.

 2014-11-22 20:57 GMT+01:00 Andreas Beckmann a...@debian.org:
 Control: tag -1 moreinfo upstream

Please try the new driver packages available at

 https://people.debian.org/~anbe/340.58/

Something like adding a new package source

 deb https://people.debian.org/~anbe/340.58/ ./

 should work.

(I cannot upload them to unstable currently since I'm waiting for
another bugfix in the packaging to migrate to testing.)

 Thanks

 Andreas

 Dear Maintainer,

mode, no matter what I do. I am writing this report on the affected
machine, logged in over ssh. Switching num lock works. ALT-F1 etc has
 no effect.

That's probably a kernel problem. Could you please try a 3.17 kernel
from experimental[1] to see if it's already fixed?

 Thanks,

It seems that some memory is not powered over suspension because after
a really short suspension cycle the backgroud/lockscreen is white with
less distortion than after longer suspension cycles. No change using
kernel 3.17-1 btw.

Bug#769995: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: displays don't wake up after suspend

2014-11-17 Thread Johan Kröckel
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Version: 1:1.0.11-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

after waking up from suspend, the two monitors stay in power save mode, no
matter what I do. I am writing this report on the affected machine, logged in
over ssh. Switching num lock works. ALT-F1 etc has no effect.
The closed source driver wakes up from suspend, but leaves corruptions in the
wallpaper, so I tried nouveau again. I added my problem discription to #768896,
but I am not sure whether this is the correct one.
I have a disabled closed source nvidia driver installed.
It's disabled by renaming modprobes.conf.d's to nvidia*.conf-disabled,
blacklist nvidia, setting alternatives for glx, loading nouveau explicitly over
an xorg.conf.d.
Hope the installed closed source driver is not the problem.

Bug#768519: nautilus does not start from dash when it handles the desktop

2014-11-11 Thread Johan Kröckel
Why not? Gnome-Tweak-Tool seems to be an official product of Gnome and
it worked flawlessly before.

2014-11-11 15:33 GMT+01:00 Andreas Henriksson andr...@fatal.se:
 Hello Johan Kröckel!

I'm pretty confident the reason nautilus doesn't start when handling
the desktop is because it's already running.

As your videos demonstrates the dash tries to get you back to the
instance you're already running (on another workspace?) rather then
 start yet another process.

In the case you're running nautilus to handle your desktop you get
brough back to it when you try to start nautilus again
 (as a file browser).

Basically, nautilus handling the desktop was not designed for
GNOME 3.x. You're running an unsupported setup so you get to keep
both pieces (and if you manage to glue them back together, feel
 free to share a patch).

What you probably want to accomplish is to split the manage desktop
part out of nautilus to make it two separate programs.

 Regards,
 Andreas Henriksson

In the past, this has happened when the AnkiWeb server administrator
decided to force clients to use the most recent version. The newest
version on http://ankisrs.net/#linux is 2.0.31. Currently, Sid has version
  2.0.30.

Is it possible to move to 2.0.31? My apologies for posting here. The
problem is not precisely with the client, but rather with the AnkiWeb
server administration requiring lightning-fast client upgrades.

Yes, that is the usual problem with Anki. I had hoped for it to last a
little bit longer, but it was not to be as it seems. The thing is that
Debian is now frozen to prepare the jessie release and I can't just go
and upload new versions whenever they come out. Certainly I won't be
able to get them into jessie, which is going to have 2.0.30+dfsg-1.

Maybe I will upload new versions into experimental to have them
available to users of sid/unstable. I also intend to offer backports for
stable users, which is the only way to get a network syncable Anki in a
release with all that regular breaking of older versions.

 Andreas

So there's no chance, that jessie will have a working Anki version?
Syncing is a crucial part of the program.

Bug#533053: trackerd is started as user root when configuring gdm from within gdm, but not stopped anymore

2014-03-22 Thread Johan Kröckel
There's no possibility to configure gdm from within itself anymore.

 Hi,

Am 14.06.2009 13:11, schrieb Johan Kroeckel:

When I login as normal user trackerd is started and stopped when I logout.
 But when I start the
configuration of gdm over actions-configure in gdm, trackerd is started as
root but not stopped when I
 finish configuration.

Sorry for not coming back to you sooner.
I've never run into this issue myself and seeing that this bug report is
rather old, I wanted to ask if you can still reproduce with a current
 version of tracker.

Bug#707224: gedit: default preferences mean a privacy risk

2013-05-08 Thread Johan Kröckel
Package: gedit
Version: 3.4.2-1
Severity: important

The default setting of the preference make a backup before saving (don't know
exactly, using german version) is a privacy risk, because the backups are
hidden files.
Example: I create a note text file including my bank account data on an usb
stick and before giving the stick away, I want to delete all files not meant to
be read by a stranger. So I delete private.txt but won't see private.txt~ which
could include my private data before last save.
Solution is obvious.

When disconnect by enabling the hardware wifi switch or the software switch in

bars). It changes to 'disconnected' state for a short time when I reenable the
switch, just before the 'connecting' icon appears.

Bug#658789:

It seems to me that Brasero is not able to burn an audio cd without
any further action, too. I added a log of a problem which got solved
by installing brasero-cdrkit but this pulls genisoimage, so I dont
know which of the packages solved the problem.

because I installed using an usb-stick and the installer added its
