Hey Hugh,

I have added a README.source file detailing the need for git-lfs to
build, and updated the changelog timestamp. If there is further action
required, please let me know.

Bug#1051150: RFS: blender-doc/3.6-1 [ITP] -- Blender Manual by the Blender Foundation

2023-10-02 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein
Hey, I've implemented the requested changes, again with some
questions/exceptions.

* Not all files in tools*/* are explicitly marked Apache-2.0, but
given most are, I think it's okay to assume that. In any case, the
attributable copyright is the same as for the main package.

Not sure if this is asking for any particular action or just a comment
on the situation.

Please change your source overrides to the following:

# This may appear to be a binary file to lintian, but it's not
source-is-missing [resources/templates/footer.html]

# WebP graphics files; resources/templates/footer.html
very-long-line-length-in-source-file

I've done this but kept the "blender-doc source:" portions at the
beginning. It doesn't do anything really, but I feel better about having
it there.

These changes were again uploaded to mentors.debian.net, please let me
know if there's something I still missed.

Best Regards,
    Jonathan Rubenstein

Bug#1051150: RFS: blender-doc/3.6-1 [ITP] -- Blender Manual by the Blender Foundation

2023-09-26 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Control: tags -1 - moreinfo

Hey, I have completed the requested changes with a few exceptions.

* You are missing several files that are GPL-licensed. I saw them in
the Add-ons section. Please check every file in the source package
carefully
I added an explicit clarification to debian/copyright that hopefully
resolves this. The files in the Add-ons sections are not GPL-licensed
themselves but mention GPL-licensed software, which shows up when
grepping for "license" (or "GPL"), but is not actually indicative of the
file's license. Please let me know if this clarification needs further
changes or amendments.

* In the short and (long) binary package description, please indicate
the manual is in HTML format.

I have mentioned this in the long description but not the short
description, as I have seen many other documentation packages which
don't mention documentation format in the short description, only the
long description, [1] and I think it degrades the short description.

That information would certainly be beneficial in the short description
if there were more than one package containing different builds, like
blender-doc-html and blender-doc-pdf; but there is only one package
named blender-doc, so I don't really want to add that to the short
description.

Otherwise, I have checked lintian notes and fixed a few of them that I
missed before. I have also submitted a bug to upstream here about the
jpg-png type mismatch:
https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender-manual/issues/104565

I have uploaded my changes again for review to mentors.debian.net. Does
everything look good now?

    Jonathan Rubenstein

2023-09-11 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Hey, I am pinging this RFS as I am still interested in a sponsor.

I'm sure someone from debian-multimedia would be the most suitable for
this purpose as they maintain the blender package, but their wiki page

https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/Sponsoring

says

> In general, we don't do sponsoring.

So for the moment I am not bothering them, however, if I should then let

Bug#1051150: RFS: blender-doc/3.6-1 [ITP] -- Blender Manual by the Blender Foundation

2023-09-03 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: wishlist

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "blender-doc":

 * Package name : blender-doc
   Version : 3.6-1
Upstream contact : Blender Documentation Team
 * URL  : https://docs.blender.org/manual/
 * License  : Apache-2.0, GPL-2.0-or-later, MIT, CC-BY-SA-4.0
 * Vcs  : https://salsa.debian.org/JJRcop/blender-doc
   Section : doc

The source builds the following binary packages:

blender-doc - Blender Manual by the Blender Foundation

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/blender-doc/

Alternatively, you can download the package with 'dget' using this command:

  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/blender-doc/blender-doc_3.6-1.dsc

Changes for the initial release:

 blender-doc (3.6-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * Initial release. (Closes: #1006255)

Additional notes:

I have already attempted this a little over a year ago in #1017875 but
didn't get around to fixing the copyright issues; these are now fixed
and the debian/copyright file should include all of the correct
copyright attributions (all are compatible with DFSG to my knowledge).

Additionally, I have added the lintian-override as suggested in my first
attempt.

I intend to maintain this package, but if it should be transitioned to a
team, that's fine as well. It's quite simple to update as the patchset
is very light and everything generally works out of the box especially
with the sphinx debhelper tools.

Please let me know if any further changes are required, I should be more
responsive this time. 

  Version : 3.0

* URL : https://docs.blender.org/manual/
* License : CC BY-SA 4.0
  Programming Lang: rST / Sphinx
Description : Offline copy of the Blender Manual available at
https://docs.blender.org/manual/

This is an entirely sphinx based full manual for the Blender 3D modelling
software. It is linked to from the Help menu of the Blender program, which
opens a web browser to https://docs.blender.org/manual//.

This documentation is not currently distributed with Debian, and I would
like
to see it so, to give users the opportunity to easily download the
manual for

offline use through apt, as well as giving the manual added protection
against total loss through the source code and compiled manual being
mirrored

on Debian's wide and diverse mirror network, in addition to downstream
mirrors.

The source code is currently located at
https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-manual/trunk/blender_docs,
or
https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-manual/branches/blender--release/blender_docs/
with translations located at
https://svn.blender.org/svnroot/bf-manual-translations/trunk/blender_docs.

I do not believe it is strictly necessary to package the translations too,
but they could be useful if the prospective maintainer chooses to
include them.

Instructions for building are found at
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/about/index.html,
however in my experience, python3-sphinx and sphinx-rtd-theme are
sufficient.

I have not packaged before, and I'm nervous, which is why this is an RFP for
the moment, rather than an ITP.

We will not enable telnetd in any of the flavours of busybox that we currently
package.

Respectfully, telnetd has been enabled for busybox-stable since 2010, so
you can install busybox-stable.

Maybe this is an indication that busybox-stable needs to be audited, or
that all 3 configurations should be audited to make sure something isn't
missing that has no reason to be.

(I have a few in mind already, but they deserve their own bugs)

Bug#985362: mumble: Unhide after Minimize to tray flashes rapidly

2021-03-24 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Thank you for your reply, Chris.

This sounds like Mumble being brought out of being minimized and then minimizing
again, as if there were either no or two mouse clicks; i.e. this sounds like a
mouse button switch that's starting to go bad. I've had this happen to me, it
leads to thinking of all kinds of things being broken that aren't.

I have right clicked on the mumble icon and hit "Show"—which should only
ever allow one mouse click because it disappears—and still experience
this issue even with that. This can also happen when running 'mumble' in
a terminal with mumble already open and minimized to tray, or opening a
desktop file.

I've also run xev and clicked the window 100 times, saving the log to a
file[1]. This log contains no more and no less than exactly 100 mouse
button down entries and 100 mouse button up entries.

My mouse is also very new, I got it under 2 months ago, a SteelSeries
Rival 3.

So my first suggestion is to try changing mice to see if it's a mouse button

problem,

I have briefly switched mice to my old one, and I have the same issue at
the same reproduction rate.

and the second is to try adjust the mouse button timing in KDE settings

(especially if you have done so recently).
I cannot find these settings in KDE 5, but as I can reproduce without
using the mouse at all via a terminal or desktop file, I do not believe
this will help.

At first glance I suspect this isn't a Mumble bug, or at least that if it does
relate to Mumble directly that it doesn't happen on all desktop environments. I
regularly use the "Hide in tray when minimized" feature but not on KDE.

I agree, it does not seem to happen on all desktop environments.

I have a Sid VM where I think I'll try adding KDE Plasma to for testing.

I can try in a VM as well. I'll also give it a go in some other DEs and WMs.

I hope my testing is satisfactory, let me know if I can do anything else.

Bug#985362: mumble: Unhide after Minimize to tray flashes rapidly

2021-03-16 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Package: mumble
Version: 1.3.4-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: jrub...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

On KDE Plasma 5.20.5, when I use mumble's Hide in tray when minimized
feature, after clicking on the tray icon to show mumble again, the
client will rapidly display and hide until I click the icon again.
Sometimes this does not occur, and the client will display properly,
but it is more often than not it will flash.

Earlier last year, this flashing was a soft-lock to my input on the
machine, and I was not able to terminate mumble normally without
switching to a tty console, or even using SSH from my mobile phone.
This behavior has since improved, and is not as severe, so I am able
to stop mumble when this happens.

Is this really a KDE bug? I'm not sure. Let me know if I can provide
any more information.

Bug#884101: cuetools: fails to convert .toc file generated by cdrdao (syntax error around # character)

2021-02-10 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

I just tried using cuetag, and got a rapid slew of

> 10: syntax error

We find this on line 10

  08 | TITLE "Matka"
  09 | PERFORMER "A-Men"
>>10 | SIZE_INFO { 0, 1, 15, 0, 46, 8, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0,

  12 | 0,  0,  0,  0,  9,  0,  0,  0,  0,  0,  0,  0}

Removing this field and the following lines 11 and 12 allowed cuetag to
work.

Bug#973263: linux-image-5.9.0-1-amd64: 5.9.0-1 (5.9.1+1) hangs on shutdown or poweroff

2020-10-27 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Package: src:linux
Version: 5.9.1-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: jrub...@gmail.com

This kernel works mostly OK, but on my system, attempting to power off
the system will hang after killing some programs, and it takes an
extensively long time to kill the programs. Forcing reboot by pressing
CTRL+ALT+DEL 7 times quickly does function to reboot the system.

As a side note, this kernel also interferes with libvirt, and I cannot
connect to the qemu:///system daemon through any client (virsh or
virt-manager)

Reverting to kernel 5.8.0-3 (5.8.14-1) resolves all of these issues.

I hesitated to mark this as grave as nobody else is reporting these
kinds of issues. I believe it may have to do with my specific
configuration, but I am not sure. Let me know if you need further details.

Bug#966401: audacious-plugins: Status Icon with close to tray stops logout

2020-07-27 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Package: audacious-plugins
Version: 4.0.4-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

When using the Status Icon plugin in the Qt version of audacious (with
audacious --qt), if "Close to the system tray" is enabled, and audacious
is open, audacious closes to the tray and prevents logout.

When "Close to the system tray" is not enabled, logout continues
normally, same if it's already closed to tray.

This does not apply to some Desktop Environments like GNOME, and LXDE,
but was confirmed on KDE, Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, and LXQT.

Bug#946450: keepassxc: New upstream version 2.5.4

2020-04-12 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Control: retitle -1 keepassxc: New upstream version 2.5.4

I've created a merge request which does the ground work for updating to
version 2.5.4, but there are still lintian issues, out of date policy
version, and possibly a bit more.

https://salsa.debian.org/debian/keepassxc/-/merge_requests/5

The lintian issues should probably be fixed with an override, since the
offending files are not source code, but I'm certainly not the person to
ask.

I'd love for this package to update, some nice new features I'd like to
use, like secret service, and 'Lock databases' to tray.

Bug#956491: git-buildpackage: [PATCH] Add info about --git-ignore-branch when not on branch

2020-04-11 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Source: git-buildpackage
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

I noticed that checking out a tag wouldn't let me use gbp buildpackage.
I checked the manual and tried --git-ignore-branch, which allowed me to
build.

The error message comes from the get_branch function, and informs me
that I am not currently on a branch. I figure this could be more
informative, so it now outputs "Use --git-ignore-branch to ignore"
as well.

Should this provide even more info?

Thank you,
Jonathan

Bug#955276: [PATCH] audacious-plugins: Missing OpenMPT plugin

2020-04-07 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

I've created a Salsa merge request for your convenience:
https://salsa.debian.org/multimedia-team/audacious-plugins/-/merge_requests/1

Thank you for all of your hard work!

Bug#955276: [PATCH] audacious-plugins: Missing OpenMPT plugin

2020-04-07 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein
In my original patch, I placed the added Build-Dependency naïvely next
to libmodplug instead of alphabetically.

I made sure to test build this fixed patch from a clean unstable VM, and
the resulting package has the OpenMPT plugin included.

Here is the fixed patch:

Bug#955276: audacious-plugins: Missing OpenMPT plugin

2020-03-29 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Package: audacious-plugins
Version: 4.0-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

This package is missing the OpenMPT plugin, added in version 4.0.
This is because libopenmpt-dev is missing from the build dependencies,
which causes the plugin to be disabled.
You can see this in the buildd log [1] at line 2592.

2590 checking for SNDFILE... yes
2591 checking for MODPLUG... yes
2592 checking for OPENMPT... no
<<<
2593 configure: WARNING: libopenmpt disabled due to missing dependency: libopenmpt >= 0.2
<<<
2594 checking for SIDPLAYFP... yes
2595 checking zlib.h usability... yes

Adding this to debian/control at >= 0.2 according to the openmpt
meson.build file [2] allows this plugin to be built.

I've attached a patch file that makes the required change.

Thank you for your consideration!

Bug#823597: npm: If npm is updated with npm install npm -g, /usr/share/npm/npmrc is lost

Maybe the Debian npm package should disallow updating itself, many other
Debian packages disable self-update functions of packages.

Fixing this bug would be great, though. However it's done.

Bug#943916: virt-manager: 2.2.1-2 not migrating

2019-11-29 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein
2.2.1-2 was uploaded to unstable as both a source and binary (all)
upload, and britney wants a source-only upload to cause a binary build
by buildd before it will be migrated to testing. This is listed as one
of the excuses.

Please consider uploading a new version with no changes as a
source-only upload so that the package will migrate to testing after 5
days.

Bug#942626: pulseaudio: module-always-source should be loaded in shipped default.pa

2019-10-18 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Package: pulseaudio
Version: 13.0-2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I recently had a problem with mumble; if my microphone was ever
unplugged or dropped connection for any length of time, mumble would not
attempt to register as capturing again and I would have to restart it.

I'm a novice user and haven't read all of the pulseaudio documentation,
since I don't currently plan on doing anything particularly fancy with
my configuration, but I found module-always-sink and module-always-source.

module-always-sink creates a fake audio sink if it is unplugged and
destroys the fake sink when it's plugged in again, and is in upstream's
default.pa by well.. default. module-always-source does the same thing
but for sources. I added module-always-source to my default.pa and my
mumble troubles were fixed.

However, I think making this a default out-of-the-box experience should
be considered so others who are never going to touch default.pa also
have this and don't get stuck like I did.

Here is the primary argument I see against this:

Users who don't have a microphone and never will have one will, by
default, always get a fake microphone device that any program is happy
to accept audio from, rather than potentially warning the user that no
microphone is connected. They will have to perform the process I took
but in reverse, removing the module module-always-source from default.pa.

Bug#941749: plasma-workspace: System tray not shown and no panel context menu

2019-10-04 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein

Package: plasma-workspace
Version: 4:5.14.5.1-2
Followup-For: Bug #941749

I am also experiencing this issue. This issue also affects searching for
applications using the Application Dashboard widget. Downgrading to
5.14.5.1-1 resolves the System Tray widget disappearing and the
Application Dashboard application search.

Hello, Debian Buster was released earlier this month, so the freeze is
over. In that time the released version is now 2.4.3.

Thanks, Jonathan

Bug#910902: akonadi-backend-mysql: akonadi fails to start creating new database/config - ~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ not created

2019-01-06 Thread Jonathan Rubenstein
Package: akonadi-backend-mysql
Version: 4:18.08.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #910902

I was able to reproduce the issue as Ian described, exactly as he described
it.

I had just reinstalled Debian and switched to KDE as my new desktop
environment. I tried opening KMail bu tthe Akonadi service wasn't able to run.
Looking in journalctl, I saw the same errors that Ian had described. Running
`akonadictl start` from the terminal verified this, and gave me the same
errors.

I then followed Ian's workaround and created the db_data directory myself
using the command `mkdir ~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data` and tried running
Akonadi again from the command line, which worked without error. I rebooted to
make sure Akonadi was completely offline, then ran KMail again, which worked
fine.

After quitting KMail and shutting down Akonadi with `akonadictl stop`, I
renamed the db_data directory to 'db_data.test', and ran `akonadictl start`
again, which gave me the same errors as before. Restoring the name from
'db_data.test' back to 'db_data' again fixed the issue.
