Package: rancid Version: 2.3.3-1 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Since squeeze, user rancid has no shell: rancid:x:111:115::/var/lib/rancid:/bin/false but in lenny and others it has: rancid:x:1000:1000::/var/lib/rancid:/bin/csh
therefore, you have to change some things: "su - rancid" doesn't work, you have to use "sudo", eg: cd /var/lib/rancid/ sudo -u rancid bin/rancid-cvs or: sudo -u rancid -H /var/lib/rancid/bin/rancid-cvs Ps. If you use just "su - rancid; bin/rancid-cvs", you'll stay as root and you'll create directories with root ownership and later rancid won't work:-( You have to modify crontab by the: sudo -u rancid -H crontab -e or use system crontab as mentioned in #505472 When you upgrade from lenny, it is different - user has shell from previous instalation... Please return shell to user rancid, or modify documentation - at least README.Debian. Current state is little bit confusing.
