Bug#387470: debian-installer: needs an possibility to load a full font for g-i: bug still valid?

2010-08-28 Thread Kenshi Muto
Hi Holger and Cyril,

At Sun, 29 Aug 2010 02:48:49 +0200,
Cyril Brulebois wrote:
 Holger Wansing li...@wansing-online.de (25/08/2010):
The g-i was GTK+ based at the time, when you reported the bug, now
we have the new X.Org based installer. Don't know if this makes any
  difference here.

It's still Gtk+-based (what changed was DirectFB → X11). AFAICT,
switching backends isn't going to make any difference for that bug.

Yes, AFAIK the situation isn't changed.
I think installing a font package and refresh font by it
is easier on X11 than DirectFB.

Thanks,

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Package: cups
Version: 1.4.3-1
Severity: normal

As upstream STR #3509 ( http://www.cups.org/str.php?L3509 ),
backend/scsi.c has BSD with advertising license may conflict
with GPL.

upstream wrote in that STR:
Well, since we are the copyright holder we can say that the BSD
license in the SCSI backend sources is compatible, just as we say you
can mix CUPS with OpenSSL - the CUPS license is GPL2+LGPL2+exceptions.
In any case, since a) the SCSI backend is never used, b) we have
removed it from CUPS trunk, and c) Linux distributors can always
remove the SCSI backend from the list of legacy backends that are
built and installed with the current releases of CUPS, I'm going to
just dupe this bug against STR #3500.

So I think Debian (and Ubuntu) CUPS has two options.

A. Ask an official note about GPL/BSD exception to upstream and add it
   debian/copyright file or somewhere.
B. Exclude scsi backend binary from binary debs.

Thanks,

Bug#542335: grace: please remove dependency on defoma

2010-06-04 Thread Kenshi Muto
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Tags: patch
thanks

Hi,

I implemented alternative font management tool for grace package
replaces defoma, to close #542335, #583956, and #583964.

The attached file 'update-grace-fonts' will be located at /usr/sbin
and be normally called by triggers for /usr/share/fonts/type1.
This command does:

 1. remove symlinks in /usr/share/grace/fonts/type1.
 2. make flat symlinks against font files of /usr/share/fonts/type1/*.
 3. scan Type1 font files and dump a map to
/usr/share/grace/fonts/FontDataBase with essential Postscript
font aliases.

Because it uses fc-scan command, 'Depends: fontconfig' needs also.

Thanks,

Well, actually this bug is of grace rather than gsfonts.
Squeeze will drop defoma. Most of packages include fonts, ghostscript,
and gsfonts already dropped and won't revert.

I believe grace has to replace grace.defoma with another structure,
if it needs a dynamic font configuration. (I'll try to help.)

Temporally I'd like to downgrade severity of this gsfonts bug to
migrade #583729 fix to Squeeze ASAP.

Even so, defoma will be removed (or at least become obsolete) in Squeeze.
Do you have a plan to change grace to not use defoma?

From my quick view of /usr/share/grace/fonts/FontDataBase, it can be
static file. Because most font packages already stopped providing defoma
file, dynamic font settings doesn't work as expected.

 Thanks for filing this bugreport!

CJK support requires cjk font packages installed (as I understand it).

Which cjk packages did you have installed on the system?

I confirmed this bug.

I installed:

otf-ipafont-mincho otf-ipafont-gothic ttf-unfonts-core ttf-arphic-uming
ttf-arphic-ukai
gs-cjk-resource
cmap-adobe-japan1 cmap-adobe-japan2 cmap-adobe-korea1 cmap-adobe-cns1
cmap-adobe-gb1

I'll investigate details.

1/ Should language-env be dropped from some tasks ?
2/ Should language-env be kept in squeeze ?

As current maintainer, I strongly recommend to drop language-env from
all task files.
language-env is unuseful (even harmful) on UTF-8 environment for
normal users.

Although language-env gives good examples for i18n developers to know
other language environments, it wouldn't fit for Squeeze or even Sid
anymore, I think.

Bug#582110: ghostscript: dropping defoma, introducing update-gsfontmap

2010-05-18 Thread Kenshi Muto
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Package: ghostscript
Version: 8.71~dfsg2-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: l10n patch

Hi,

Thank you for keeping ghostscript maintainance.

I saw newest changelog had:
  * Strip CMap files (shipped separately, registered with DeFoMa).

But dropping defoma is one of goals on Squeeze, at least of
pkg-fonts-devel team.
Actually because most fonts have already dropped defoma, CJK support
of ghostscript is dead at this time.

I tried to solve this situation since some monthes ago,
http://wiki.debian.org/gs-undefoma
and I believe the patch is completed now.
This patch is passed a test by some Japanese users.

Could you see the attached patch?
It adds:
update-gsfontmap which makes cidfmap and Fontmap.
  /var/lib/ghostscript/CMap and /var/lib/ghostscript/fonts directory.
It removes:
  defoma dependency.
  old defoma files.

This migration needs a modification of gsfonts, cmap-adobe-*, and
gs-cjk-resource also. I'll send a patch to gsfonts later.
I can upload cmap-adobe-* and gs-cjk-resource by myself as soon
as you apply my patch.

Thanks,

Bug#410200: language-env: should configure UTF-8 for french (and most other languages?)

I just discovered this great tool.

I am merging the bugs #410200 and #410612. The encoding should be UTF-8
for French (and most language except Japan and a few others), AFAIK.

Although I took over this package from former maintainer/author
Tomohiro Kubota to keep it on Debian archive, I'm thinking this tool
seems obsolete and doesn't fit for recent UTF-8 desktop environment.
The documents in this package is excellent resource for i18n people,
but the tool needs to replace everything rather than to modify a small
part.

 migemo.el)
despite /usr/bin/migemo changes its outputs depending on a $LANG environment

Oh, I didn't notice. Thanks for your clarification.

 I attached a patch which changes migemo-coding-system depending on a $LANG
 environment variable.
I think that the patch works well when LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 and ja_JP.EUC-JP.

Well, although I applied your patch, I got an error:
Symbol's function definition is void: search.

search function seems not exist on emacs23 or emacs22.
I'm sorry but could you tell me how to fix it?

 Well spotted !

On first sight, it might supposed to be the translation of
  http://www.debian.org/News/2008/20081218, I'm not sure.

It's because the translated file has been put under 2008/20081227 while
it should be under 2007/20071227 (compare with
 http://www.debian.org/News/2007/20071227 )

I've moved the file, the problem should be fixed at next build.

It was my mistake, sorry and thanks for fix it.

When I chose uim + uim-skk for the conversion system and candidates menu

them. Pushing cursor key caused only page-up/down, instead of moving
to next/previous candidate. Pushing number key created a literal number.

uim-anthy seems work correctly.

Seriously speaking, OK, I'll try it soon.

I have a two cents question: what is the benefit over hd-media (which is
20MB to download, fits on 99% of the current usb keys, don't require to
burn an ISO on a CD and don't requires a TFTP server)?

As far as I know hd-media needs netinst ISO or business ISO also
to work.
It is a bit inconvenience and confuses novice users.

Hi,
I made a patch to produce bootable netboot image for (mainly) USB

After this patch is applied, 'make build_netboot' will build boot.img.gz
in dest/netboot/ directory for i386 and amd64 with both text and gtk

Because I didn't know well about other architectures, my patch didn't

This boot.img.gz is more convenience than hd-media image for usual

This brush-style font was designed and created by Mr. Eizan Aoyagi, who

reassign 495311 xulrunner-1.9

Hi,

I investigated this bug.

I noticed it made root:root $USER/.mozilla directory when a user did sudo
command and there wasn't $USER/.mozilla yet.

xulrunner-1.9's postinst calls:
 MOZILLA_NO_JEMALLOC=1 ./run-mozilla.sh run-mozilla.sh ./xpcshell -e

It makes $HOME/.mozilla directory.
When a user installs this package by using sudo, $HOME will be user's
home directory.

I believe specifying HOME value is needed on postinst, though I don't
know where the best is.

2008-08-14 Thread Kenshi Muto
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

It seems likely a translation issue, but we can avoid it by modifying
the code as Deng suggested at #475802.

I made two patches.

- - cmdline_prompt.patch
This patch lets aptitude allows Y*/y*/N*/n* also for Yes/No prompt
in addition to the translated Yes/No.
I think this is better patch than later one.
One problem I can imagine is that this check may go to failure
if local language means Y* for No or N* for Yes, but it will be
very rare and I didn't see it in current po files.

- - japo-yesno.patch
This patch reverts Yes/No translation of Japanese po file.
If you Daniel won't touch the code, please apply this one.
  (But you'll lose a chance to close #475802 :) )

So could you consider to apply one of patches, Daniel?

Because this bug #494816 hurts many Japanese users who try to use
pretty aptitude, I ask you to upload the fixed version to t-p-u.

Hi,

Although I don't make sure the responsibility of this bug is pkgsel or

pkgsel 0.21 calls aptitude safe-upgrade as default pkgsel/upgrade

method.

So it means current snapshot Lenny installer can't install
etch-and-a-half without a tweak.

I know he has working in dak recently, but not sure

I'm afraid ajt's resignation from ftpteam has stopped this

Yes, admins can replace the key by themselves with their responsibility

Because SSLkeys Wiki page focuses the weak keys made by Debian official

Despite being ACCEPTed, this package failed the database sanity checks
at the time of install. This should only happen rarely and in
corner-cases (a binary upload of a package which has since been
'dak rm'-d for example), so no code to do the necessary unaccept
actions has been written. These actions (e.g. bug reopening,
announcement rescinding, etc.) will have to be done by hand. Also,
the files have been left in the accepted directory; please deal with
them as well.

I have seen that you have orphaned seetex. I would suggest that we take
over the two binaries dviselect and dviconcat as they are already build

We could upload a new packages of texlive-extra-utils that
 provides/replaces/confilcts with dviutils.

After that you could ask for removal of seetex from the archive.

 Would you agree to that?

Sure, no problem for me :)

I have seen that foomatic-filters is an optional dependency - how can it be
 installed using apt-get?

No way from CUPS side. If cupsys has more Depends: to call
more (not essential) packages, some people will become angry.

Current solution for you is to use tasksel.
tasksel provides print-server task.
It will install:
printconf
hpijs
foomatic-db-gutenprint
cupsys-bsd
foomatic-filters-ppds
hplip
foomatic-db-hpijs
cupsys
cupsys-client
cupsys-driver-gutenprint
foomatic-db-engine

You can install the task by tasksel or aptitude.

Bug#431891: status of DDTP and ftp mirror synchronization?

2007-12-09 Thread Kenshi Muto

Hi Grisu,

Michael Bramer wrote:

 http://ddtp.debian.net/debian/dists/etch/main/i18n/ (per File)
 http://ddtp.debian.net/debian/dists/lenny/main/i18n/ (per File)

So, what problem does block the synchronization?
How can we solve it and push the newest DDTP production into official
  mirror?

The ftp-master should get the files once per week or we need a
interface to upload the files on request...

OK, so how did you update the files until 16-May-2006?
Can't we recover its procedure?

IMHO because 'ddtp.debian.net' (and i18n.debian.net) isn't official
Debian host yet, it's better to copy Translation data to official
semi-permanent Debian host and let ftp-master takes it from there.
Gluck is maybe the best place for such a purpose.
(hm, /org/ddtp.debian.org/rsync has a similar data, but it's older
than mirror's one ...)

Plus, Debian prefers rsync rather than http for a synchronization.
I think ftp-master will want a sync script is tested well and
guaranteed not making any destruction of other files, if they haven't
it yet.

Bug#454686: update-manager: new messages are added by dpatch which isn't friendly for translators

2007-12-06 Thread Kenshi Muto
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: update-manager
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

Hi,

A user said update-manager showed messages in English (This can be
caused by unofficial package sources ...) during upgrade even all
other messages were translated and ja.po was 100% translated.

I looked into the source and found
debian/patches/02_replace_dist_upgrade.diff replaced the messages.

Well, could you add these new messages to templates.pot and update po
files with using dummy template or other solution?

Thanks,
