Bug#387470: debian-installer: needs an possibility to load a full font for g-i: bug still valid?
Hi Holger and Cyril, At Sun, 29 Aug 2010 02:48:49 +0200, Cyril Brulebois wrote: Holger Wansing li...@wansing-online.de (25/08/2010): The g-i was GTK+ based at the time, when you reported the bug, now we have the new X.Org based installer. Don't know if this makes any difference here. It's still Gtk+-based (what changed was DirectFB → X11). AFAICT, switching backends isn't going to make any difference for that bug. Yes, AFAIK the situation isn't changed. I think installing a font package and refresh font by it is easier on X11 than DirectFB. Bug#585030: cups: scsi backend has BSD with advertising license
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Package: cups Version: 1.4.3-1 Severity: normal As upstream STR #3509 ( http://www.cups.org/str.php?L3509 ), backend/scsi.c has BSD with advertising license may conflict with GPL. upstream wrote in that STR: Well, since we are the copyright holder we can say that the BSD license in the SCSI backend sources is compatible, just as we say you can mix CUPS with OpenSSL - the CUPS license is GPL2+LGPL2+exceptions. In any case, since a) the SCSI backend is never used, b) we have removed it from CUPS trunk, and c) Linux distributors can always remove the SCSI backend from the list of legacy backends that are built and installed with the current releases of CUPS, I'm going to just dupe this bug against STR #3500. Bug#542335: grace: please remove dependency on defoma
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Tags: patch thanks Hi, I implemented alternative font management tool for grace package replaces defoma, to close #542335, #583956, and #583964. The attached file 'update-grace-fonts' will be located at /usr/sbin and be normally called by triggers for /usr/share/fonts/type1. This command does: 1. remove symlinks in /usr/share/grace/fonts/type1. 2. make flat symlinks against font files of /usr/share/fonts/type1/*. 3. scan Type1 font files and dump a map to /usr/share/grace/fonts/FontDataBase with essential Postscript font aliases. Is language-env still used/needed these days for some languages (for french?) ? http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/language-env.html http://qa.debian.org/popcon-graph.php?packages=language-env I remember it was needed years ago for woody and euro configuration for french, but don't remember anything newer, and the package doesn't show any real update since 2006: http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/language-env/news/20061127T004715Z.html. 1/ Should language-env be dropped from some tasks ? 2/ Should language-env be kept in squeeze ? Bug#582110: ghostscript: dropping defoma, introducing update-gsfontmap
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Package: ghostscript Version: 8.71~dfsg2-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: l10n patch Hi, Thank you for keeping ghostscript maintainance. I saw newest changelog had: * Strip CMap files (shipped separately, registered with DeFoMa). But dropping defoma is one of goals on Squeeze, at least of pkg-fonts-devel team. Actually because most fonts have already dropped defoma, CJK support of ghostscript is dead at this time. I tried to solve this situation since some monthes ago, http://wiki.debian.org/gs-undefoma and I believe the patch is completed now. This patch is passed a test by some Japanese users. Could you see the attached patch? It adds: update-gsfontmap which makes cidfmap and Fontmap. /var/lib/ghostscript/CMap and /var/lib/ghostscript/fonts directory. It removes: defoma dependency. old defoma files. This migration needs a modification of gsfonts, cmap-adobe-*, and gs-cjk-resource also. I'll send a patch to gsfonts later. I am merging the bugs #410200 and #410612. The encoding should be UTF-8 for French (and most language except Japan and a few others), AFAIK. Although I took over this package from former maintainer/author Tomohiro Kubota to keep it on Debian archive, I'm thinking this tool seems obsolete and doesn't fit for recent UTF-8 desktop environment. The documents in this package is excellent resource for i18n people, but the tool needs to replace everything rather than to modify a small part. Currently I set 63MB for this image but we can change it to even 31MB. (I assumed user may copy firmwares and something into it). Nice. However, as this requires documentation changes, I think this should be post-Lenny. Kenshi, could you propose a text for it to the installer guide? Oops, I should have kept my mouth shut :) Seriously speaking, OK, I'll try it soon. I have a two cents question: what is the benefit over hd-media (which is 20MB to download, fits on 99% of the current usb keys, don't require to burn an ISO on a CD and don't requires a TFTP server)? As far as I know hd-media needs netinst ISO or business ISO also to work. It is a bit inconvenience and confuses novice users. Write this image directly to your memory stick, which must be at least 64 mb (netboot) or 256 mb (hd-media) in size. Of course this will destroy anything already on the memory stick. Compared with that a netboot image takes most installer components from the net, an hd-media image uses a Debian ISO image file. Bug#505773: debian-installer: Bootable netboot image for USB stick patch
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: debian-installer Severity: wishlist Version: 20081029 Tags: patch Hi, I made a patch to produce bootable netboot image for (mainly) USB stick. After this patch is applied, 'make build_netboot' will build boot.img.gz in dest/netboot/ directory for i386 and amd64 with both text and gtk installers. Because I didn't know well about other architectures, my patch didn't touch them. This boot.img.gz is more convenience than hd-media image for usual installation scene (install Debian into machine with wired network), because it isn't necessary to copy any ISOs, isn't necessary to setup TFTP server, and is pretty small. Currently I set 63MB for this image but we can change it to even 31MB. (I assumed user may copy firmwares and something into it). Bug#494816: aptitude: users must enter Yes message in each localized words and more, when they are warned to use unofficial repositories
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, It seems likely a translation issue, but we can avoid it by modifying the code as Deng suggested at #475802. I made two patches. - - cmdline_prompt.patch This patch lets aptitude allows Y*/y*/N*/n* also for Yes/No prompt in addition to the translated Yes/No. I think this is better patch than later one. One problem I can imagine is that this check may go to failure if local language means Y* for No or N* for Yes, but it will be very rare and I didn't see it in current po files. - - japo-yesno.patch This patch reverts Yes/No translation of Japanese po file. If you Daniel won't touch the code, please apply this one. (But you'll lose a chance to close #475802 :) ) So could you consider to apply one of patches, Daniel? Bug#481426: marked as done (cupsys: SSL Certs Insecure (DSA-1571))

Yes, admins can replace the key by themselves with their responsibility (but I haven't tried it). Because SSLkeys Wiki page focuses the weak keys made by Debian official packages at this time, I don't think it is valuable to describe about CUPS there. How can we solve it and push the newest DDTP production into official mirror? The ftp-master should get the files once per week or we need a interface to upload the files on request... OK, so how did you update the files until 16-May-2006? Can't we recover its procedure? IMHO because 'ddtp.debian.net' (and i18n.debian.net) isn't official Debian host yet, it's better to copy Translation data to official semi-permanent Debian host and let ftp-master takes it from there. Gluck is maybe the best place for such a purpose. (hm, /org/ddtp.debian.org/rsync has a similar data, but it's older than mirror's one ...)
