I can only agree with Petter, this is sad news. I did the Norwegian
Bokmaal voices with my children close to 15 years ago, I was hoping to
do it again with my grandchildren in the future ...

Bug#632395: debian-edu-install: Debian Edu profile selection step is confusing, simplify

The profile "workstation" is the one you need if you want a functioning
machine, that is not a server. So this profile is most certainly useful.

Bug#630970: debian-edu-config: Install hangs for hours while trying to run /usr/bin/mkslapdcert.

2011-06-19 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: debian-edu-config
Version: 1.446~svn73734
Severity: normal

During install, when /usr/bin/mkslapdcert runs, seen in the syslog as
in-target: Executing script /usr/bin/mkslapdcert...(timeout=0,uid=-1,gid=-1)
the install will hang for at least 1 hour before continuing. If one
presses some keys on the keyboard (presumably that generates enough entropy)
the install continues immediately.

This has never been the case before with debian-edu, not sure why this is
happening now. We should ate last be aware of this, and have it in the manual,
unless we can fix it.

Bug#629626: gosa should also lock the homedir of a deleted user.

2011-06-08 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: gosa
Severity: normal

When a user is deletd in gosa, the homedir gets a new name, and
is set to owned by root:root. Gosa should also lock the newly named
homedir, using 0700 as permissions.

The homedir of the deletd user klaus currently looks like this:
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root4096 8 juni 09:52 rm_20110608_klaus
It would be better securitywise if it looked like this:
drwx-- 5 root root4096 8 juni 09:52 rm_20110608_klaus

Bug#629623: gosa: uid and guid of deleted users are reused.

2011-06-08 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: gosa
Severity: normal

When I delete a user, the next created user gets his uid and guid.
This gives the newly created user access to all the files of the former
deleted user that he has stored in places such as /tmp/ /var/tmp
/var/spool/mail and other places.

This is what it looks like:
I create the user testes:
root@tjener:/skole/tjener/home0# ls -dln testes
drwxr-xr-x 3 1003 1003 4096 8 juni 09:47 testes
Then I delete the user testes and create the user klakla:
root@tjener:/skole/tjener/home0# ls -dln klakla
drwxr-xr-x 3 1003 1003 4096 8 juni 09:52 klakla

Both user gets 1003:1003

Bug#629573: getent passwd shows the gosa template

2011-06-07 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad

A getent password shows the gosa template also, like this:

newstudent:x:1002:1002:NewStudent NewStudent:/skole/tjener/home0/%uid:/bin/bash

These template should not show up when doing a simple getent passwd.

Bug#629315: gosa ldap-manager csv-import should as minimum only ask for given- and surname.

2011-06-05 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: gosa
Severity: normal

Gosa ldap-manager csv-import currently has uid/username, givenname and surname
as minimum requirements. It needs to be possible to massimport users via
csv-import using only givenname and surname (or fullname), gosa should
then automatically create usernames. Having username as a requirement makes
mass-import of users difficult in schools.

In gosa ldap-manager the CSV-import page says one must include the
three fields UID, GIVENNAME and SURNAME. In reality it's not UID, but
username that is meant.

Bug#610346: xfce4: Typo in Norwegian translation.

2011-01-17 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad

Package: xfce4
Version: 4.6.2
Severity: normal

When I rightclick on the logout icon in my panel, and choose
Egenskaper(properties?), one of the Actiontypes is translated
into "Avlsutt + Lås skjerm", it should have been "Avslutt + Lås skjerm"

There is a similar typo in the clock applet, there the translation is
"Vertøytipe", that isn't a word in Norwegian as far as I know.

2011-01-15 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: lxde
Version: 0.5.0-4
Severity: normal

When I click to open a file either on the Desktop, or in pcmanfm, all that
happens is that I'm being asked "What application do you want to use to open
this file: OpenDocument-text" (this is my free translation from Danish).
The problem is with all kind of files I have tried, pdf, odt, ods, odp, doc...

Kde4 is also installed on the machine, and there it's no problem.

I'm looking at deploying this to a few thousand users, and this is a
showstopper.

Bug#599207: kdebase-runtime-data: Logout always asks for confirmation.

2010-10-05 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: kdebase-runtime-data
Version: 4:4.4.5-1
Severity: normal

I have via System Settings setup "Session Manager" to not confirm logout and
also to not offer shutdown options, my $HOME/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc
looks like this:
[General]
confirmLogout=false
excludeApps=
loginMode=default
offerShutdown=false
shutdownType=0

The different shutdown offers are now gone, but I still need to either wait
30 seconds before I'm logged out, or press the Logout button in the dialog
that appears.

This behaviour is differnt from kde 4:4.3.4-5+b1, there you are
immediatly logged out, no questions asked, and no need to wait 30 seconds
before being logged out.

I have a few thousand users using 4:4.3.4-5+b1, and I can't upgrade them to
4:4.4.5-1 because of this. In my test I have seen that my average user is
not "able" to press the logout button once more, and I have seen the
neighbour user press the "Cancel" button that is available during the
30 seconds countdown period, and in that way hijack their session.

The problem is when they want to open their locked kde session, and
don't remember what keyboard layout they have. Of course once they are
inside kde, thay have no problems using the keyboard layout applet in
the system tray.

Bug#584870: kdm: flag indicating keyboard layout not present anymore in 4.4.3-1

2010-06-07 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: normal

My users regulalry switch between several keyboard language layouts during the
workday. In version 4:4.3.4-5+b1 there was a flag present in the kdm
"open locked screen"-dialog indicating the keyboard layout, which you could
press in order to change the layout, that flag is not there anymore in 4.4.3-1.

This has led some of my users to not being able to open up their locked
screens, because they do not remember what keyboard layouyt they had before
going off to lunch.

Adding export TEMP=$HOME/tmp to the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10temp

I have some follow up questions:

So, I commented line 122, and removed the comment on line 156
in /etc/udev/rules.d/usb_modeswitch.rules .

I also removed the comments on the lines 392-405
in /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf that corresponded to the device on line 156
in /etc/udev/rules.d/usb_modeswitch.rules

Bug#524002: gdm: Norwegian bokmaal option looks messed up in the list of available languages.

2009-04-14 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.7-4lenny1

The list of available languages in gdm displays Norwegian Bokmaal like this:
Norwegian, Bokml(Norway)

While Norwegian Nynorsk looks like this:
Norsk(nynorsk) Norsk(nynorsk)

I would be more happy if Norwegian Bokmaal was displayed as:
Norsk(bokmål) Norsk(bokmål)

other languages layouts also.

Bug#506125: kstars doesn't function properly on non-kde systems without konqueror.

2008-11-18 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: kstars
Version: 4:3.5.9-2
Severity: normal

I would like to use kstars under Gnome, but then the webpage links that is
associated with objects doesn't work. I only get the error message:
Error: Could not launch the browser Could not find service 'kfmclient'

I already have a broser, Iceweasel, I don't want to install Konqueror and all
it's dependencies in addition.

Why can't kstars just use the browser (x-www-browser) already available?

Bug#499735: further info.

2008-09-23 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
The machine used a 64-bit kernel (linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64) while the
userland was 32-bit. When I use a 32-bit kernel, network-manager works
as expected.

But I need 32-bit userland because of some software, and I need 64-bit
kernel, otherwise that machine takes ages to boot.

Bug#499735: network-manager-kde and wl (broadcom blobb) fails to associate with ap

2008-09-21 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: network-manager-kde
Version: 1:0.2.2-1
Severity: important

When trying to connect my wireless card to an accesspoint using
network-manager-kde and the wl module it fails on obtaining
IP-adress. This happens regardless if the network is encrypted or not.
I can start the application just fine, and all accesspoints nearby is
displayed, but trying to connect to one just times out.

If I establish the connection
manually using iwconfig and dhclient, it works fine however. It also works just
fine when
I use network-manager-gnome in my kde system.

This is all I can get from the logs:
NetworkManager: Activation (eth1/wireless): association took too long
(>60s), asking for new key

I have no mention of DRI in my X configuration. But adding this stanza
to xorg.conf helped:

Section "Module"
Disable "dri"

Bug#496027: stopmotion: wrong use of cut command to stop grabber

2008-08-22 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: stopmotion
Version: 0.6.2-1
Severity: normal

Running stopmotion from the commandline leaves this output:
cut: fields and positions are numbered from 1
Try `cut --help' for more information.
Usage:
kill pid ... Send SIGTERM to every process listed.
kill signal pid ... Send a signal to every process listed.
kill -s signal pid ...Send a signal to every process listed.
kill -l List all signal names.
kill -L List all signal names in a nice table.
kill -l signalConvert between signal numbers and names.

This I guess comes from stopmotion trying to stop the grabber using this
command:
kill -9 `ps ax | grep dvgrab | grep -v grep | cut -b 0-5`

If you want to use this construction, then maybe use cut -b 1-5. Or try using
pidof.

Bug#495915: stopmotion: messagebox with a warning appears.

2008-08-21 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: stopmotion
Version: 0.6.2-1
Severity: normal

When I use auto-mode to capture images from my webcam, a warning box appears,
saying:
"You do not have permission to read that file". The message seems harmless,
there is no problem capturing images, but it's very annoying. If I click on the
"OK" button,
the warning goes away, but it returns within a few seconds.

"aptitude --help" list possible options to aptiude, such as

Bug#444265: lwat: timeout when importing several users from file

2007-09-27 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: lwat
Version: 0.15-2
Severity: normal

When importing several hundred of users from file, I get a timeout and
all the users aren't created.

I guess you should possibly add a timelimit or such to php.

Bug#440961: mondo: installs amd64 kernel on my amd k7 machine

2007-09-05 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: mondo

When installing mondo it also installed linux-image-2.6.18-5-amd64 on my
machine which has AMD Hammer Family processor and which uses
linux-image-2.6.18-5-k7. Either debian-installer installs the wrong
linux-kernel on my nachine, or mindi drags in a linux-kernel that isn't
realy suited for my machine.

Package: kdebase-kio-plugins

When pressing "Safely remove" on the usb-sticks mounted icon in the taskbar, I

a popup that says "The device was successfully unmounted, but could not
be ejected". The title of the popup is "Error-kio_media_mounthelper".

Bug#398416: xserver-xorg-video-i810: blurry/fuzzy/unsharp/unclear image on beamer(projector)

2006-11-13 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810
Version: 2:1.7.2-1
Severity: normal

Using the laptops Fn+F10 button combination I used to be able to cycle through
image on:
* Only on laptop
* Only on beamer/projector
* Both laptop and beamer/projector

In all three cases the image was clear and sharp, and xvideo showed up
just nice (watching dvd on both laptop and beamer/projector was no problem).
This was with xorg6.9 which used 1.4.1 of the i810 driver.

With any version of i810 after 1.4.1, the output on the beamer when used
simultaneously with the laptop screen is blurry/fuzzy/unsharp.

The machine actually was in production for a few days with 686-smp, then
it just suddenly stopped.

Great, I did suspect there was something wrong with my setup, calling
pam_group.so before pam_ccreds.so did help.

I'm trying to use pam_group.so to give users groupmemebership via
/etc/security/group.conf and using "authoptionalpam_group.so"
in /etc/pam.d/common-auth. This works very well, until I start using
libpam-ccreds.

In case my pam-files are totaly to blame for this, I include them here:

account sufficient pam_unix.so nullok_secure
account sufficient pam_ldap.so

authsufficient pam_unix.so

auth[default=done]  pam_ccreds.so action=validate use_first_pass
auth[default=done]  pam_ccreds.so action=store use_first_pass
auth[default=bad]  pam_ccreds.so action=update use_first_pass

Not according to the file in the Skolelinux cvs,

skolelinux/i18n/other/nb/debian/2nd-stage/newt.po
http://developer.skolelinux.no/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/skolelinux/i18n/other/nb/debian/2nd-stage/newt.po
there all 4 string are translated.

Unless it's a different file you mean.

Bug#308183: Package: installation-reports

2005-05-08 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: installation-reports
Debian-installer-version: RC3, netboot

I did notice some translation bugs:
[1]
In the first stage of installation the buttons are correctly translated
to nb_NO (with ja,nei, avbryt), but in the second stage of installation
they are in English (Yes, No, Cancel),

[2]
There is also a parse-error in the second stage concerning the setup of
the timezone, it just says
"Ut fra landet er tidssonen sansynligvis .
Er du i Europe/Oslo-tidssonen?"
The first sentence doesn't make any sense, there is a 'Europe/Oslo'
missing there.

I wonder if this might be because of this translation in
base-config_debian.po:

msgid "Based on your country, your time zone is probably ${zone}."
msgstr "Ut fra landet er tidssonen sannsynligvis ${timezone}."

I do not see these errors when I use nn_NO.

Bug#293487: java-package confuses % for MB

2005-02-03 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package:java-package
Version:0.19
Severity:important

When I run fakeroot make-jpkg ~/jre-1_5_0_01-linux-i586.bin
I end up with a warning:

Checking free diskspace:/usr/bin/make-jpkg: line 34: [: 48%: integer
expression expected
/usr/bin/make-jpkg: line 37: [: 48%: integer expression expected

WARNING: Possibly not enough free disk space in
"/tmp/make-jpkg.Sxg4uu".

You need at least 180 MB, but only 48% MB seems free. Note: You
can specify an alternate directory by setting the environment variable

Press Ctrl+C to interrupt, or return to try to continue anyway.

As it happends I have 48% free diskspace on / where /tmp is.
I do manage to create a deb-package, despite this warning.

Bug#291124: webmin-ldap-user-simple gives wrong error message

2005-01-18 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package:webmin-ldap-user-simple
Version: 1.3-20
Severity:critical
When I upgrade debian-edu-config to 0.394-1.desa2004021, some new ldap
schemas are introduced . The way webmin-ldap-user-simple handles these
new schemas is with an error message that tells the user to do
something that breaks his system.

When upgrading this is the message that webmin-ldap-user-simple gives
the user:
Failed to update ldap admin passwd in samba. This function is
turned off for security reasons. Please set the password for your
samba -'ldap admin dn' via 'smbpasswd -w yourpassword'"
Error; User account not created

When running a 'smbpasswd -w yourpassword' users are reporting that
their windows machines in samba no longer authenticate against ldap.

The proper way seems is to restart ldap.
