Bug#1031421: caja: 0 ignored at beginning of filename in sorting

2023-02-16 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Source: caja
Version: MATE caja 1.24.0
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

when sorting files aphabetically 0nov is displayed before 000nop and before
00noW .
In short it ignores leading zeroes, so list is different than you would expect
on ls.
No known way to ask to ignore it and do a strict binary ordering.

It seems ftp.it.debian.org does not provide rsync (right now).

I don't know what's up with that right now, but we generally recommend
mirrors not sync directly from service aliases such as
ftp..debian.org in the first place, as only http is guaranteed to be
available at ftp..d.o sites.

rsync does not use ftp nor http

Maybe sync from some other host such as debian.ethz.ch or
ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de?

I need to have the rsync push from them .

Actually it is impossible to install together owncloud and php5-mysqlnd
since installing one remove the other and there is no other way that to
fiddle with status file or repackaginp php5-mysqlnd to have the two
working on the same machine, but of course tainting the update

Hi Leonardo! Stable actually has *all* the Qt4 stack at version 4:4.8.6+git64-
g5dc8b2b+dfsg-3+deb8u1. So I see two possibilities:
1) You need to dist-upgrade your installation before installing paraview, and
you made a typo by writing +dfsg3+deb9a1.

9a1 came from a my typo in the report.

anyway i have found the error: accidentally the install came from a disk1

now i am updating from a different mirror and see what happen ...

it works ...

2015-02-16 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Package: gnome-flashback
Version: 3.14.0-4
Followup-For: Bug #771922

Dear Maintainer,
The bug is a bit severe since it does not allow to set national keyboards.
While on normal gnome and on gnome classic i may select the keyboard
on flashback i am stuck wityh the US one, without any possibility to usa as
before the us-international (as said in control panel) with dead keys and
compose key !!!
And using standard gnome is not an option for egonomic reasons.

then it works regularly

There's some truth in it, though. stable now disappeared and lenny correctly
refers to itself to oldstable. Soon to be on the mirrors.

exactly the same thing .and this host has the 32 bit version.
then I su to root and surprise:
student:/home/leo# umount loc
student:/home/leo# ls loc

this time has worked !
It is not enought however, since in unacceptabele tha one user can mount a
remote share but is unable to umount

After this test i tried again on the same 64 bit machine : exactly the
same result: i can mount as an user, i cannot umount by the same user.

I still consider this an important bug.

I thried again on another expendable server and i was never able to
umount by the same user that mounted, but always i succeeded as root

also: i can mount two times on th seme mount point, an mount command show
me two times the same mount.
when I rebooted i had two os suc mounts. this could be the reason for the
lock ?

smbfs

Then you're not doing it with the Debian packages. Debian stopped
supporting smbfs mounts in samba 3.0.27a-2, which predates Lenny by a year.

Please show the output of 'mount' on this system.

i cannot, since i do not want absolutely make such a test on
production server, when i know that likely it will not be unmounted.
anyway the package that i have for smbmount is:

Package: smbfs
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: otherosfs
Installed-Size: 4112
Maintainer: Debian Samba Maintainers
pkg-samba-ma...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Architecture: amd64
Source: samba
Version: 2:3.2.5-4lenny11
Replaces: smbfsx

And that package does not support the smbfs filesystem, so either your mount
is actually cifs, or you're using an smbmount command not from the Debian
package. If you're not able to help debug this bug, which no one else has
reported seeing, we would have to assume that the problem is the second one.

Er, did you not notice here that you passed a file path to 'umount', and a

well ... er, bad !
if I smbumount loc as user there are no error, BUT ...
after I umount from root the share is unmounted, but a line
//unione/home on /home/leo/loc type cifs (rw,mand,nosuid,nodev,user=leo)
remain in mount output.
I can mount again from user, so i get two identycal lines.
i have to unmount from root, but only one goes away.
One dead line remains, and i think is this that forbide regular
shutdown.

anyway smbumount never works, even from root i have to use umount.

so:
user$ smbmount
root# umount file or share
is ok, but:

user$ smbmount
user$ smbumount file
root# umount file
... is umounted but remain in memory ...
now i try:
user$ smbmount otherserver\\share loc
it is ok, i can read
but:
user$ mount
return:
(...)
//unione/home on /home/leo/loc type cifs (rw,mand,nosuid,nodev,user=leo)
//dipolo/leo on /home/leo/loc type cifs (rw,mand,nosuid,nodev,user=leo)
(...)
when i try
user$ umount loc
say:
umount: it seems /home/leo/loc is mounted multiple times
and even:
l...@student:~$ umount //dipolo/leo
umount: //dipolo/leo is not in the fstab (and you are not root)
l...@student:~$ smbumount //dipolo/leo
This utility only unmounts cifs filesystems.
l...@student:~$
NOTE THAT DIPOLO IS THE LENNY MACHINE WHERE I NOTICED THE PROBLEM THE
FIRST TIME

then i try:
root# umount loc
is umounted, but the first one remains for the eternity (until
hard poweroff)

So the ill behavior can be repeated on two differnt machines, with two
different flavours of lenny !

(tomorrow i will try from a squeeze one ...)

I forgot to say in teh reportbug that the problem is present also using
vesa driver, with an inportant difference: while usoingo openchrome driver
the problem is in the cursor only , using vesa it works (without
mouse) only if we put the memory size (on etch it figured it automaticllay)

plain vga driver is ok, but of course unusable.

I do not agree. fo sure he couse of the troubles have ben traced, but
remains a behaviour not good for users.
A previous configuration that allowed an authentication method different
from manual does not longer works, neither istructions are given to amend
this behaviour.
Using tha uthentication method where an user ha change his password is
often a must.

Bug#517288: moodle: Does not accept old password, but does not even allow to change password

2009-02-27 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Further informations:
Previous report was before i asked the official administrator of the site
(non me, that am the root for the server) to log with her password.
she actually succeeded, but soon after she logged, before the main page
got a long series of messages about restoring backup database.
At that time she was the only one to be able to log in.
We tried using her account to change password to other people, without
success.
we were hovewer able to create new users, and these new users works fine.
I was able to reproduce the problem on another machine doing the same
series of upgrades.
do you know a way to allow all other people to log, withput having to
recreate each one ?

Bug#517288: moodle: Does not accept old password, but does not even allow to change password

2009-02-26 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Package: moodle
Version: 1.8.2.dfsg-3+lenny1
Severity: important

After an update to lenny and apache2.2 of a server the site using moodle,
and after the database upgrade was run automatically, without errors, the
system does no longer accept passwords, neither admin neither user.
If one logsin, it say the password is wrong. She can push the request for
missing password, it send the message asking for confirmation, accept it and
then send a new password.
Neither this one is accepted, but even the change_password.php does not
work, returning instea the standard login page.
interesting enought if i call directly change_password_form.php i get:

Bug#517288: moodle: Does not accept old password, but does not even allow to change password

2009-02-26 Thread Leonardo Boselli
On Fri, 27 Feb 2009, Francois Marier wrote:

 Hi Leonardo,

Can you tell us what your PHP include_path is set to in your php config?
 (normally /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini)

include_path is commented out , that is:

;include_path = .:/usr/share/php

Also, can you paste in the values you've got in your config.php for
 these variables:

   $CFG-wwwroot
   $CFG-dirroot
   $CFG-dataroot

 $CFG-wwwroot = 'http://.it';
 $CFG-dirroot = '/usr/share/moodle';
 $CFG-dataroot = '/home/moodle';

(wwwroot is the correct domain for the site)

note that an assign for $CFG-libdir is completely missing, but is
referenced by change_password_forms.php.
so il would affect also other searches.
IMPORTANT: i did a fresh install on another server and also this one does
not have this variable
also i found in change_password.php:

*
// require proper login; guest can not change password
// TODO: add change password capability so that we can prevent
participants from changing password
if (empty($USER-id) or isguestuser() or
has_capability('moodle/legacy:guest', $systemcontext, $USER-id, false)) {
if (empty($SESSION-wantsurl)) {
$SESSION-wantsurl =
$CFG-httpswwwroot.'/login/change_password.php';
}
redirect($CFG-httpswwwroot.'/login/index.php');
}
*
it looks that this exit from here

Regarding the other problem you had with formslib not being able to
include Quickform, you could try the following.

In lib/formslib.php around line 25, change:

 if (FALSE===strstr(ini_get('include_path'), $CFG-libdir.'/pear' )){
 ini_set('include_path', $CFG-libdir.'/pear' . PATH_SEPARATOR .
 ini_get('include_path'));
 }

 to be just:

 ini_set('include_path', $CFG-libdir.'/pear' . PATH_SEPARATOR .
 ini_get('include_path'));

 (i.e. remove the IF statement)

 Cheers,
 Francois

It is important since exim generates log with 23:59:60 and such logs could

arrive on that second the log is stored with that date.
such bug in touch force me to hand manually days with leap seconds.

Nothing can stop you from adding two identical lines in an editor. In
the web interface, if you set set allowed users, you immediately see
 duplicates, too.
So either I misunderstood what you meant, or there is no real bug
 here?

If I have a list of about 50 denied users, with usernames all alike is
very difficult to spot on the fly, since the list in the textbox in not
ordered.
At least when one rewrite the list of denied/allowed user is possible to
ask the program to check for duplicates and not writing again them ???
is ppossible to have it as a combo-listbox with ordered usernames ?

Bug#504604: This bug is anything but release critical

2008-11-09 Thread Leonardo Boselli

On Sat, 8 Nov 2008, Christian Perrier wrote:

The data loss rationale in this bug report is fairly weak.
The offending file (which you even didn't send to the bug report) is
not destroyed nor lost.
No, the file has not lost, but since one expect that between version of he
same program there is the same behaviour, and trust that a program you use
since 8 years wont change its behaviour, I got some problems due the use
of the results from such file (say two hours of work literally lost, and
not for fixing the table!).

For Tim:
EVEN openoffice 3 for linux, .deb version, downoaded from openoffice org
has the same behaviour C !!!

among all version i have only 2.4.1 from lenny use option D .
(note: i do not have any excel to try, the file was in origin written from
a ooo 2.0 under windows, and until 2.4.0 inclusive I did not see the error
even in linux ... i have not been able to install oo3 from debian, so my
lnux 3.0 version in the ooo build one)
So my alarm is: why the same program on different distribution has
a different behaviour ?

Is possible this _was_ a bug in previous oo version, that has been fixed
in debian 2.4.1, but not in ooo one ?
(actually this is a thing that IS a bug from a programmer point of view,
but not from a lazy user's point of view (or by a perl programmer ;-) )

May i suggest to put a configuration option tho choose the behaviour in
this case ? it would be ok with all files.

Bug#504604: eval( )

2008-11-07 Thread Leonardo Boselli

Yes, the bug i report is the same you mention.
The real severity of the bug (that otherwise should have been a wish list
item) is that the versions i download from openofficeorg behave
differently than the ones you get from debian site, and a file that have
expected results from one does not have on the other.

So it can fit in the loss of data category.

So i suggest to call differently the program, not soffice but d-soffice.
About using 3.0 on lenny: i expect in a distribution to have available the
current upstream varsion. (possibly with the same import/export behaviour
!)

Bug#504604: bug, same but the conditions are different.

2008-11-06 Thread Leonardo Boselli

Yes, it ist bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/openoffice/+bug/210153

but you miss one row in my line:

To simplify this, I think you are saying that in v2.4, you see that a
formula like this
=if(A1-B10;1;C1) returns an error 529 when C1 contains and A1 and
B1 are empty
no, it is ok, but when C1 is used as part of an arithmetic operation here
come the error.
It is very annoying not only due the difference from other programs, but
even for the difference between the same release of debian version and the
ooo versions !
My suggestion woyld be to have an option where the user can choose that
string values when present in an arithmetic formula are

  a. evaluated as real ( so 1.2+3 equals 4.2)
  b. evaluated as integer ( so 1.2+3 equals 4 )
  c. evaluated as zero so ( so 1.2+3 equals 3 )
  d. evaluated as an error
Since excel has one of these behaviour it would be sensibble that when
loading an .xls file is automatically set the compatibility mode, and
when loading and .ods file not.

personally all my files consider option c.

Bug#504604: current lenny version do not read files

2008-11-05 Thread Leonardo Boselli
If you wish to submit further information on this problem, please
send it to [EMAIL PROTECTED], as before.

additional notes:
I know that is a poor programming practice summing number and strings,
assuming strings are counted as 0 when summed, but nonetheless is the same
behaviour that other programming language (perl as an example) have.
I have installed a non-debian version of OOO3.0 and now i am almost happy,
but nonetheless i want to point the error, since every previous version of
OOO and also 3.0 current ones (as well MS-Excel) consider the blank string
as a 0 when adding values, so could be a lot of files around that in the
2.4 version you choose to put in lenny instead of 3.0 are not properly
loaded, and this is worse.
about the final OR in my bugreport: consider as a BESIDE .
3.0 is a must for a new distribution.

Bug#464578: openbsd-inetd: does not alwais honour pop and pop3 names in inetd.conf

2008-02-07 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Package: openbsd-inetd
Version: 0.20050402-6
Severity: normal

On two different machines, one with i386 and another with the amd64 flavour
the same problem: pop3 and pop3s in inetd.conf are not always recognided as
110 and 995, so the system does not listen to them.
The problem is quite erratic: usually it does not work, but if i kill -HUP
three times in a row the daemon il start correctly.
it does not look as a caching problem since if i start with a filecontaing
110 then change to pop3 and HUP inetd the service is not accessible, if i
change back to 110 it is, bach to pop3 not ..
but if then i kill -HUP three times in a row it works ok.
i have tried also on reboot and it seem to work most of the times

Should we close this bug?

You could, also if i would prefer that the configurator would test if a
lpd is runnuing and in that case propose a different default.
It would be consistent with the behaviour of other packages.

Bug#413377: linux-image-2.6.18: on upgrade get grub priority even if not previously selected

2007-03-04 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Package: linux-image-2.6.18
Severity: normal

After upgrade from 2.6.18-3 to 2.6.18-4 grub select this new kernel for boot,
even if previously default was set to a non-linux partition.
I noticed the problem also on another installation.
It wopuld be nice that, if the default kernel is not the one that is
upgraded, it would remain as a default.
(so, if my default is the fifth on the list, adding a new one should keep
that one as the default, not the freshly installed one. the automatic update
of grub should occour only if the new one is an update for the one that is
 the current default)

Bug#392749: joe: unable to edit a readonly file to be saved on a writable fs

2006-10-13 Thread Leonardo Boselli
Package: joe
Version: 3.1-0.2
Severity: normal

When opening a file from a rdonly fs I am not able to edit it, even if I
plan to subsequently write to a writable space after editing.
Unable to make a baclup is not a reason for this case since you would never
modify the original.

Is there a sentence which contains reed?
Can you cutpaste or make a screen copy of the terminal?

Bug#325779: apache: mod-bandwidth max 900 kb/s

Package: apache
Version: 1.3.33-6
Severity: normal

if I set (using mod-bandwidth) on a virtual server section a maximum of
above 90 the speed is throttled to 90 bit per second, with every speed
above such limit. any Speed belov that limit works fine.
Using a differente virtual host, with the same file, i get about 6000
b/s (that is bound just by the speed of the disk).

Bug#294413: alternative package for the function

2005-05-25 Thread Leonardo Boselli
On Wed, 25 May 2005, Jeroen van Wolffelaar wrote:
Personally, I don't see the value for an installer package, when you do
have net access, you can also use the online version, right? If you
insist it'd be useful, this bug should then probably be reopened and
reassigned to wnpp as an RFP (Request For Package).

There are some cases whenm having the full version local is useful, for
example for people using a portable, or for classroom use, where usage is
intense.
Since it is a document useful also for novice, that is possible do not
know how to use wget, giving them a script to download it just by invoking
it. (it could also choose automatically teh best mirror ...).
An idea for this and many other documentastions that are present on the
main would be makink, beside main contrib and non-free also a
documentation section, containing the general documentation not
relative to a single version of the programs included [that would remain
in main/docs] .
This section, similarly to non-free could be on not be present on the CD
distributions, or better: it could contain either the full package or just
the downloader script, accorting the option chosen by the producer of CD
(som, for example, if after all binaries there are for example 50 MB of
space on the media, one [or possibly even a smart cd imager script] could
choose the documents to include to fit that space, leaving for the others
just the downloader.
Putting this in a non-main section would also avoid the stable problem,
allowing to add updated version of the document at any time, without
waiting for the next offical release ...

Bug#294413: alternative package for the function

2005-05-25 Thread Leonardo Boselli
On Wed, 25 May 2005, Jeroen van Wolffelaar wrote:
I'm not really convinced by the argument that wget is a too big hurdle
while apt-get (or whatever package manager) and actually finding the
package in question isn't, especially since since downloading works on
any OS/distribution and Debian packages only when you already have a
working Debian installation including document viewer (pdf viewer?). But
this is not my call to make, reassigning to wnpp.

No, wget itself is not a big burdle.
It is just that:
- wget is not in base packages, neither on fundamental, so you could end
an install having only lynx or links, that are not exactly the easier
thing to use for download by a novice; Also you have to know the address
where to download.
- selecting a packages called manuale per tutti and having it select
the installer script (that could depend on wget or other program, so
installing also that one) is definitely less error-prone.
- of course: i am talking of putting in deb just the downloadr/installer,
not the actual fat (althought nutrient) files !
- last option [not intrisicly bad]: add just a AppuntiLinux.miniHOWTO with
the description on how to retrieve the full beast ! This would also ahev
the small advantage that any one installing the howtos would know about
it.

Bug#308051: not so bad

2005-05-08 Thread Leonardo Boselli
 Date: Sat, 7 May 2005 20:47:11 +0200
 From: Rene Engelhard [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Leonardo Boselli wrote:
Subject: openoffice.org: Obsolete version even on experimental
WTF? What do you want to say with that? 1.1.4 is the latest upstream
version and is in experimental (although the langpacks are not
 installable at the moment)
2.0 is *not* released and 1.9.x is beta-quality stuff which in some
aspects is broken. But we are working on debs of it...
In some aspect ... yes, but has more function than 1.1.4 and i have not
yet found any broken part that worked on 1.1.4 and not in 1.9.=95.
On the other part i have a lot of files that 1.1.3 does not open correctly
and a few ones that not even 1.1.4 open yet.
I do not say that you must put 1.9 in stable, but putting on experimental,
possibly with a caveat would be ok.
Otherwise create a new package, openoffice.org2 (or openoffice2.org ?)
keeping in experimental, but regularly updated, so those that want to have
it in their system, at their risk, can take advantage from a standard
upgrade path via apt.

 Closing this bogus bug.
not sure is a real bug but absolutely not a bogus need !
