Bug#907561: Relevant iso-codes bug report

2018-08-29 Thread Maarten de Jong
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=907466

This report says that iso-codes doesn't ship the xml files anymore and
wants apps to use the json files instead. Gedit also gives warning messages
because the xml files are missing. Should i report a bug there too?

Bug#907561: gnome-software: software fails to start: Failed to map ISO639 to language names

2018-08-29 Thread Maarten de Jong
Package: gnome-software
Version: 3.28.2-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

After moving from testing to unstable, I've been unable to start
gnome-software.
I have purged the package and reinstalled it but this doesn't fix it.
When running gnome-software from the terminal, i get the following error:

12:18:38:0278 Gs Failed to map ISO639 to language names: cannot find source
file : '/usr/pkg/share/xml/iso-codes/iso_639.xml'
Trace/breakpoint trap

At the beginning it also says in red: plugin appstream took 2.2 seconds to do
setup
But i don't think that's relevant.

Since it's got to do with iso-codes i tried reinstalling iso-codes, which did
not work.
I downloaded the source code of iso-codes(sudo apt source iso-codes), but i
still got the error.

so:
expected outcome: gnome-software runs when clicking on software.
real outcome: gnome-software fails to run, gives an error instead.

This is on a debian minimal install (netinst, didn't select anything when
installing), with gnome-core installed.
